Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 75. WOW! Low tonight is supposed to be 49. Talk about winter coming fast. Whew. Tomorrow they‘re calling for a high of only 70.

Ray- I admit due to the word "Honey" being said from the Living Room, I did not get back to the pictures to check them out again. But the first time I looked, I couldn’t see the difference.

Jerry- Congratulations. That is great. I tell you what, I for one am really looking forward to seeing what you can do with that much space. What you did with the I&S on what was about the size of a slice of bread was ammmaaazing!! I remember being shocked when I saw a picture of the entire layout for the first time. I assumed it was much bigger. And now you have it. Have fun!

Ulrich- Not to worry, the hardest part is remembering the ones you talk to can’t catch that little grin, that mischievous glance, the chuckle or the voice inflections. That is just a problem we make when we become friends over the keyboard without actually ever meeting and getting to know each other and our personalities first. Good Luck in the contest!

Aussie Jim- Yup, Tuesday. Monday is Labor Day. Sorry…Union rules.

Cape Jim- The local NCIS Addictions Anonymous meets on Tuesday nights. The nights I w**k. Their method is, they watch the show and then discuss reasons they should not have. Odd, but then again I’m no therapist. I have heard of "face your fears and addictions" type therapy though. Guess it works. Must, they come highly recommended with a large group. They are thinking of starting another chapter.

Well I don’t know what I’ll do today. A luxury I had last weekend too. With the dryness and heat, things aren’t growing an dwhat is, I do not want to..... stress. Until I hear from the prospective buyers, (They have looked at two other houses but still like this the best…so far), I hesitate to do any more because, well, what ever is done comes out of my pocket and if they are satisfied with the house at this point, why spend more money to get them to …like it. Or what if I do something they don’t like. SO! It’s a waiting game. Meantime, there are puh-LENTY of things around this house that need to be done before winter gets here tomorrow. You know, I just realized, I still have to get the snow blower ready to store for the summer.

 Well, not a lot planed so far today. Hope to get the F7's speed matched today. Found that CV 54 was sat at 60 on the F7 a and was 0 on the B unit. Heck, I hate to admit this, I did not know what CV 54 did till I got some help in the DCC section.   Guess I need to read more.

Today I get to help take down the Portable Garage and pack it away.  I am giving the troop a good sized donation for being able to use it.  Hoping the rain holds off long enough for us to get THAT done. 

The two cats, Manét and Blackie are sleeping off having to be in fight or flight mode for several hours yesterday from having a bunch of little kids around most of the day.....  Seems like there was something I forgot to say yesterday......  Hmmmm.  Wonder what it wa.... OH!

Happy Birthday a day late Garry!  You appear to be born on the same day my FIL was....  Hope it was a great one!

Actually, Ken, the Fire is Joe, the Rain is Tess,  "and they call the wind..... Mariah!"  (Ahem....  cough, cough.....  I should have warmed up first I think!)  Sorry, I just can't pass up a straight line like THAT one!!!

After a windy night I'm still here. You won't be rid of me that easily. Power got knocked out for a short time last night but cable service was down until a little while ago. Gusty winds and rain are expected as Lee advances through Louisiana. Onset of tropical storm conditions isn't likely. There are no tropical cyclone watches or warnings in effect at this time. The center of Lee is in the vicinity of Iberia Parish in south central Louisiana. Winds near Lee are 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35. It's windy here in west central but nothing I can't live with. Chance of rain is near 100%. Wind is gusting near 40 mph.

Afternoon All,

I'm sitting here waiting on the supervisor for the back splash . She gets off work at 3 PM. What a waste of time.

I am really not happy with NJI. I went to install the dwarf that they sent me only to find out that the defective one was shipped back to me without explanation. I sent the thing back in a padded envelope and they sent it back in a regular envelope that caused the back of the signal to pop off. I refuse to buy another NJI product so I jury rigged it to work but not prototypically. Luckily it is out of sight most the time. I think the thing that angers me the most is when I sent it back I thanked them for their customer service. I have 4 of their PL signals waiting for installation after Xmas and I sure hope they work because I won't get any help from the company if there is a issue. Live and learn I guess.

Jeff- I didn't mean the other tower was bad, just that I like the green one better.

a hot and humid day here in northern Germany. I found some time to w*rk on my station module.

There is still a lot to be done before this one will look the way I want. Those two buildings at the end will be replaced by more contemporary buildings and a lot of detail has to be added. But at least the module is now on its way to completion.

Jeff - hope you are staying dry in your area.

 Yes they do Jeffery, problem is getting my fat figures in there with the spring and coupler centered. Guess I will try spraying the clip a part and little. Then when I get the right coupler for correct height use pliers to squeeze the top tight.

 On the engines I sent you I left the Kadee couplers on. The front ones on the Stewart's take a little while to get the hang of doing, but you will figure them out.

Evening all..... Well I have w--k behind me now. I have Monday off so I think I,ll double check the area where my new turntable will go. Layout the mock ups for the sanding facility coaling tower water tower and ash pit. Also check the clearance for the round house.I have alot to get ready once I have the new tt built. I can,t believe my layout has been on hold for almost a year oh well that will all be behind me now.

Heck, I hate to admit this, I did not know what CV 54 did till I got some help in the DCC section.  

....like me yesterday. I wanted to fix that my MTD ran opposite direction than normal. So, CV 29 needed "1" added. Did it on the Main, but on the NCE, that doesn't show you a read out for the CV value before you alter it. Guessed, and ended up mistakenly putting in a value that turned out to be below that required for the decoder to actually get any signal! (THAT's 32, I think) Read the manual, and then did it right! Now, Forward is exactly what it's supposed to be.

  I'm pretty sure that's what Atlas did with my GP15-1s. they are both just as noisy as when I shipped them for repair/replacement under guarantee. Lesson learned. I'm not eating up my cash shipping stuff they don't do a thing about. There are other manufacturers.

Any warranty from your last people to w**k on the roof (if it would cover your leak problem)?

Todd, I think Jerry did have a little more room than a slice of bread, actually. But I'm with you about wanting to see what he'll do with all THAT new expanse of RR territory there.   And hey, careful with talking about your sn*w blower already this year! Our more northern Diners may be at your door with the tar and feathers if you keep talking like that!

Ken, I forget if that's persnicular or particular  or persnickity... Best wishes with the couplers - the Athearn spring covers can be a tad difficult at times. Are you putting #5's on, or the newer ones with the 'whisker' springs?

DerJohn, I think if you consider when most RR's in this continent were built, I'm not sure we could say your remark about "No immigrants were injured in the building of this railroad" on much of ANY of them. But I don't think building RR's has ever been a very 'safe' profession, has it? Have you heard from Fergie for a while? Wondered what he's been MESS'ing about with lately... as well as if he's been promoted to desk job, retired, or whatever.

It's cooling off here in Missouri - has already dropped from (I think) our high temp of 82 F (28 C) to 72 F(22 C) now, and we're supposed to drop to 56 F! (13 C) tonight. Sheesh! May want to get out the blanket tonight at this rate (I *refuse* to turn on the heat this early).

Spent part of the afternoon re-checking my MRR inventory, and found I have more flatcars than I thought (fair number of the GSC 54'-ers), plus doing some correcting of quantities on other freight cars. But between going from the computer (in living/dining room) to the bedroom, getting the tub(s) out to see which had the cars I was looking to find, going back to the living room and making the corrections on the computer, then back to the bedroom to close up the tub and put it back with the others, etc., etc..... But I found I don't need as many freight cars as I had thought - may get a six-pack of the Tichy 40' flatcars to balance out the proportions of 40's-to-50's. Found out I didn't have one RR line that I put in the inventory (had mixed the drop-bottom 50'-er with a regular 54'-er). Ah, well...

I had some paperw**k for w**k that I probably was supposed to turn in last Tuesday , so got what I could get done on that, and then was thinking I had to be in the office tomorrow . However, after calling my supervisor and checking with him, found that Labor Day IS one of the (few) holidays we get at w**k. (We don't get that many at all, and some of them we have to take 8 hours of ETO for) Yay!!

So, tomorrow is free for MRR'ing odds and ends (like seeing about finishing some unfinished projects that have been sitting toooooo long). I will get by the Diner, however to see what new photos some of you have for me to drool over.

Prayers for rain where it is needed (and none where there already is enough or too much), for a good (safe) night's rest, for good health and comfort, and for MRR'ing time tonight/tomorrow (uninterrupted by much of any "Honey....."

Jeff, good to hear the winds have toned down a bunch in your area there. So long as the lake doesn't get too high (as you said the other day).

I'm not too worried about it getting too high. It'll overtop the dam before it gets onto the back terrace of my parents place and I'm up higher than they are on this hill I'm on. The bottom of my front step is about even with the roof peak of most of their house. The roof peak over their great room (two story height) is about even with my roof.

Jeffrey,you live by a lake lucky you,now hope your parents will be ok.Just went down to the layout,put on two CSX AC6000CW,s and backed up to the train and coupled up and when i started up the first center flow came uncoupled from a 5161, back up and coupled back on and when i started up the 9 car a tank car came uncoupled fron the 10 tank car,So i said the heck with it and ran the two motors and six cars in the house track and left the rest in the siding,Hope to get this train out tomorow.

Evening All,

I'm calmer now, the kids can come out. I weathered my sand towers today and we got the back splash up. It took about 3 hours, was similar to laying tile floor but no getting on the floor and little cutting. The plan is to grout tomorrow after it sets up overnight. As we were finishing up MOH mentioned she wants to change out the power outlets...to what I have no clue.

Der- Yeah I know, it is just so frustrating when a company does not back their products.

Janie just a decaf for me.......

I am exhausted.  Almost fell asleep in a chair after dinner tonight at my son's house.  I got grill duty out there as today was his online football thingie draft...  So he was glued to his computer screen until he finished (which was half way through dessert I think).  Most of the meal was leftovers from yesterday.  The party starts at his house tomorrow at 1PM and we will have more stuff to eat all afternoon.  Somebody said something about Southern Style BBQ Ribs.....  One of the brother in laws has a family recipe that is just plain WOW! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! 

Drove past the FGLK yards going out to the son's house....  There sitting on the track nearest routes 5 & 20 is a Wisconsin & Southern Boxcar with tribute to 9/11....  I'll try to get a photo tomorrow if I can.  Supposed to be pouring rain all day...  may not be a good time to get a shot though.

Got home and gave a call to one of the old Teachers I w*rked with for many years at the Middle School returning her call from a couple days ago.  A few of us are getting a dept. reunion for mid September.  She had info that another one of the dept. who now lives in a Senior Center North of here wants to have us all come up to her place for a reunion (THAT saves someone having to go and pick up her actually, as she is no longer able to drive).  Anyway after a few minutes "Ma" (her nickname) says, "Hey, really liked the photo you had in Friday's Paper.....  I said, "What photo in Friday's paper."  Seems I had completely missed the page...  I got this photo published along with a few others readers have turned in over the last couple months:

Der, interesting, you didn't see what I did to the photo either?  I thought it was obvious....  Here is the before again.  See the black triangle on the right side of the photo.  THAT is the black fascia and black cloth around the layout....

I used the clone tool to continue the road across the tracks and fill in the black triangle, thus:

(whispers) OK, what does Ken's fat figure have to do with installing Kadee Couplers???  OH!  Fat Fingers!!!!  Huh? oh nothing Ken.....  (Gotta get the hearing aids checked....)

Couple old guys sitting on a park bench down at Seneca Lake the other day.  First one leans over to the other guy and says, "Got a new hearing aid, It's state of the art!"  Other guy says, "What kind is it?"  First guy says, "Oh about 3:30."  Second guy says, "Me too, lets go get a beer!"

Some days I feel just like them!

I am not yet happy with my station module. The trains "running against the wall" at the end if the module just won´t look right. Maybe I´ll disguise that with a highway overpass, set slightly at an angle, but that´ll require a major re-w*rk job.

A second, long and exhausting day preparing the ol' farm for the rains. Perhaps tonight I won't wake up with two completely numb arms.

Well, Tomorrow {when everything gets back to normal} I have to call the furnace company.

The furnace is in a long hall that is dark. When he installed the Roof Jack {AKA metal chimney}, he had to cut the ceiling and then he applied a rather small 2 halves of a "trim" around the jack.

I went looking for leaks with yesterday's , , . FOund no leaks, but I discovered that on the back side of the jack is a gaping hole that leads to what would be our "attic" if we had one in the trailer.

I wondered why it seemed to be hotter as I passed by, and now I know heat form the "attic" was leaking in. ANd so willl COld weather when THAT happens.

That also would not be "fire rated" safety issue. They need to put up a bigger trim ring that will block that off effectively. A little sheet metal trimed nicely and screwed in would help. SO would some fire retardent spray foam.

So tomorrow I will call,

I should have gone investigating with the flashlight when he went to put it up.

Roof supposed to be done Wednesday, but forecast is , , I think it will have to be delayed. I will call in advance, as I don't think sealcoat put down on wet surface will bond correctly and last long if applied when wet. COuld be wrong.

Good Morning,

We were taking on some serious water yesterday, about 2 gallons was collected in the bucket.  I had cut a hole in the celling to see where it was coming from and it looks like somewhere near the west gutter.  It only leaks when we have a heavy rain storm, so I’m going on the ladder to inspect the downspout and soffit.

Curt I really like the back splash!

It took Tom and Lucy about 20 years to build the Elk River.  Lucy makes all the trees, now they are expanding the layout with a New England style port area in the next room.

Well...after a strange weekend of no shows and visits to the emerg coupled with all else of stuff I am finally able to sit and actually type something out

I did get some mrr time in as well though, which is a good thing...as I now have a few more locomotives to add to the collection..3 new ATLAS RS2's showed up in my lap yesterday when I went to a LHS to check out their yard sale...heeheehee...

So, I will be at the RC for a bit.

It's like living anywhere else. Most people living by a lake are like most people living by a resort beach. The majority of them go somewhere else for fun.

Sounds like you either have coupler height issues or different brand couplers that don't work as well as you'd like. I used to have such things happen until I changed to all Kadee couplers on the cars and locos I use most. MoW cars and freight cars I don't use much get the clones.

Good morning. It's 73° and cloudy. The high will be 82° and mostly cloudy. There's a 50% chance of rain this morning.

Winds last night were in excess of 40 mph. I know what it takes to make the corrugated steel sheets on the over-roof chatter and 40 and below won't do it. Sounded like closer to 50 mph gusts. Winds are continuing this morning. We're under a wind advisory until about 7 pm. Average speed should be 20-25 mph with gusts to 35. Already looked at the lake and the white caps are rolling over deep water and hitting hard against my parents sea wall. Anybody out there today is a nut! Nothing much planned for the layout today except some general cleanup. A good thing about this weekends storm is that it kept the young folks across the road quiet. Kinda hard to have a party in the yard with wind and rain trying to soak everything and blowing away anything that isn't nailed down. I know the wind was blowing pretty good as it blew my old gas grill over. I haven't grilled on it in many years. I just use it as a painting bench.
