Good Morning

Flow, eggs over easy, hash browns crispy, bacon and coffee please.

Again, lot of running around today. Got to buy new pants for interviews, look for title for in the Daytona and fill up the Town Car. Ick! That is going to cost $60-$65 a lone. Most of my interviews are in St Louis so there is going to be a lot of driving next week.

Today's high will be around 99, rain Sunday with 78 degrees and then 2 days of mid 70's? That will work for the electric bill.

Ulrich Good to see you posting again. Find the need inspiration yet for the current section? Did the water fall clear up any yet?

Good morning!  I'll have the Blue Plate Special.

I'm just stopping in for a much-need hot meal after Hurricane / Tropical Storm Irene ripped through.  My house wasn't damaged, but I haven't had power since 4:30am LAST Saturday (that's a week and counting).  I still don't, and the forecast for restoration is 6:00 pm Tuesday.  We didn't really feel like facing a long weekend without power, so we fled to my in-laws for the weekend, so I'm able to catch up on the posting.

It's too dark in the basement to work on the layout.  I tried running trains, but pulling them around the layout by hand just wasn't the same (maybe that's ACC -- Analog Command Control)!

Alright! Who put Saran Wrap(little tm thing) over the toilet?!

Good Morning!! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARRY!!!!

Coffee please and…..you know what? I feel like a Chicago Style hot dog. Or as Jerry calls ’em, a Windy City Dog. Thanks.

Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 98. Heat index values as high as 101.

Terrible. Terrible night last night. EVERYbody wanted pizza and they all came in at once, plus to go’s and then….before it even stopped, it started again. And hot.... man that kitchen was hot. Now I know that’s what the restaurant is there for, and if it wasn’t for the customers, there would be no reason to employ me. But come ON now… this ain’t Domino’s (little tm thing). There are two of us making pizzas on Friday night, but not an army. We also have cut things up (pizza toppings), and make the appetizers. Nothing is pre made. Usually a typical night is busy with the kid making the pizza’s and putting them in the oven. I watch them, take them out package or plate and do the appetizers and deal with the waitresses over the finished product. Off and on throughout the night, I will help make a few pizzas when I am waiting on the oven. Believe it or not this keeps us pretty busy all night and works pretty darn well. But last night (shakes head). No Go at this station. Like a Hurricane, hit us hard and just kept hitting us until we wore out. We made it though. But , not without casualties. My little buddy Annie. A waitress on Fridays and the daughter of my friend, the one who made the deal about my hair if you want to call it that, had to stop me and ask if I was hurting because I wasn’t my usual chippy dippy (whatever that is ) self. Yes, wasn’t a good night for the old substandard joints, so that made me do little more than “crack a meager smile from time to time” I guess. I just said I’m sorry and I’ll be sure to make up for it and flirt with her next week. Seemed to satisfy her for a while. She giggled and left. The leaving part was what I was going for, so I can chaulk that up to a sucess. Not complaining, I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who would be tickled pink to have just one night of the ability to do it at all.

Der- When I got married, (leans back in chair and calmly tamps tobacco in a pipe) I recall vaguely a comment my then young bride and alleged sole mate made. I believe it went something similar to this. “Now we are one. It is no longer “your problem” or “my problem”. It is "our problem" We will walk life’s pathes side by side. Sharing life equally…., unless one half is better than the other, then I get the best half.”    Pretty much sums up our entire marriage actually.

Ulrich- We’re just teasing you hoss. We know you wouldn’t haul us downtown unless you had to and are not treating the diner any different tan you did before you got the badge. But it is nice of you to have the forethought to remove possible conflict of interest by not monitoring the diner per se. But I tell you what, If I get out of line, friend or not, I’d expect you to haul me on the carpet just like anyone else. If I’m wrong I’m wrong and I’ll admit it....eventuallyWhistling.  Friends is friends, but business is business.

Ken- I appreciate the offer on the mags, but actually I got through cleaning out a bunch of them myself. I’d hate to start over again. I’m down to 30 + years of Car Craft and then the clean out will be complete. That one I’m having a bit of trouble turning lose of.

Gonna kind of lay low today if I can, still a bit down in the hip (which is not common) and the knees (really common). Someone still stabs me in the wrist with and ice pick (all too common) and my shoulder still let’s me know it’s there (not uncommon) BUT has calmed down quite a bit actually. SO…. Maybe, I will make it to the train room today. Think?

But first… find the difference in Ray’s photo.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Cake Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Garry, Happy Birthday to you.  Enough said.  Hope you have a great birthday.

Ray,  That is some great modeling.  I can imagine how that looked on  cake.

Curt,  Looks like you have a rather large layout.  Thanks for sharing.

Ulrich,  Done that.  Back in the day when ATM's were rather new, at least to me,  the card went in and I did something that it didn't come back out.  It was the weekend, and I didn't get it back for a couple of weeks.  Hope it isn't too inconvenient for you.

Later,

Sue

Happy birthday Garry.

Good morning. It's 73°, wet and raining. The high today is forecast to be 85°. There's a 60+% chance of rain and thunderstorms this morning and afternoon increasing to 80% tonight.

This mornings weather statement for this area as follows:

PROBABILITY OF TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE CONDITIONS... AS CURRENTLY ASSESSED...THE ONSET OF EITHER TROPICAL STORM OR HURRICANE CONDITIONS IS UNLIKELY TO OCCUR.

...WINDS... TROPICAL CYCLONE WATCHES OR WARNINGS ARE CURRENTLY NOT IN EFFECT...NOR ARE THEY LIKELY UNDER PRESENT CIRCUMSTANCES.

THE LATEST FORECAST IS FOR MAXIMUM WINDS TO REMAIN BELOW TROPICAL STORM FORCE.

A large swath of showers continue to fall across southern Louisiana and the adjacent coastal waters. Showers are moving to the south this morning while the larger area continues it's drift off to the west. Hourly rainfall totals are running about 1/2 inch. Visibility in the heavier squalls will drop to about 1/2 mile. Rains will continue through the morning hours.

Got the vans electrical problem sorted out. It was just what I thought it was. A jumper I moved was connected to the wrong contact. Moving it to the proper contact corrected the problem. Took about two minutes.

We're having a slow rain here. That's good as we need it. I just hope it doesn't go overboard and flood the area. My home is safe enough as it's over thirty feet above the normal lake level and twenty-eight feet above the top of the dam. The only two roads out of here however are another matter. One good thing is that the lake is down by three feet but with enough water coming in it will soon be back to it's normal level. If the water continues coming in faster than the spillway can drain it off it will begin to rise above that normal level and we have the start of a flood. If it comes up four feet above normal lake level the water comes onto the roads. Anything above that raises the water level on the roads and we have a problem, not to mention that my nephew and his friends will be finding ways to ferry folks across, for a fee of course. Hopefully it won't come to that. Last time this happened the roads were three feet under water in places.

Good Afternoon,

boy, is it hot again. Now that summer´s gone, we get the weather we were looking for in July and August.

I am still mad at myself for leaving my banking card in the ATM - I must be getting older. Took a long nap after lunch, enjoyed a nice slice of Petra´s yummy cherry crumble pie and started some w*rk on my station module. Sorry, folks, no pictures yet, the batteries of my camera are running low and are just getting recharged.

Sue - about a year ago, my wife did the same. When I started to laugh at her a little, I learned some new words - words the forum policy would not allow me to post here. Whenever she sees me now, she has that certain knowing smile on her face

Jerry - congrats on the new benchwork! Your brother did an excellent job. I´d be happy to help you with the track plan - my track planner has all Kato track.

Jeff - our weather be-guessers gave us a run-down on world weather, showing some nasty clouds piling up in the Gulf area. I bet this is a true as the midday thunderstorm they were predicting for us.

Todd - folks sometimes forget that I am not a native speaker Sigh. Catching the undertones takes a lot of exercise. I have not spoken an English word for ages, just typing SighSigh

Ken - I am not sure whether the waterfall has cleared up - it looks a little improved. Btw, that module has a fair chance to win a prize in a project party contest.

Well, that´s all for the moment - CUL!

Hello all it's 3.50am here sunday morning!

Checked the status of my order at model train stuff, it's waiting for USPS to collect it, which if they are like Australia Post, won't get picked up until Monday.

I did a bit more work on the layout today which you can see on WPF on page 2.

Happy Birthday GARRY Happy B-Day

Whistling

Good afternoon Gang,

Well it is the Labor Day Week-end and how appropriate that here I sit working again.   What a way to spoil a long week-end.

Seeing that it is a special week-end and I know alot of you have various plans in the works for your time this W.E. I will not take up too much of it with a long winded lesson that I know you expected.    Lol.

I did find this however, and I thought it was most interesting.  I know for sure that Young John in Provo with his W.B. Lumber railroad will enjoy this and I hope the rest of you will as well.

Take special note of the grade % and of the radii.   WOW, these were very special locomotives.

Wishing you all a very great Labor Day Holiday.

Johnboy out.................................and starting to think my diesels look pretty tame compared to this.

Sir Madog

Jeff - our weather be-guessers gave us a run-down on world weather, showing some nasty clouds piling up in the Gulf area. I bet this is a true as the midday thunderstorm they were predicting for us.

So far today we've had four inches of rain and it's still coming down. It's supposed to be worse tomorrow.. The lake is filling to the normal mark rather quickly. After that it'll depend on how much can get over the spillway as to whether it starts to flood.

Evenin' folks!

The crowd has left... We had good food, good company, and a great time!  In fact we decided to gather at my son's house tomorrow for left overs...... Lots of left over food.....

As promised here is a photo from just before the cutting of the cake!

I had a couple of lovely little girls help me as well:

Livy got to run the passenger train several times around the layout on her own today.  She did fine except for forgetting to throw the turnouts a couple of times...  Not bad for a 4 year old!  First thing in the door was , "Grandpa, are we going to run trains?"

Johnboy, gotta love those Climaxes, and the Heislers, and of course the Shays!!! If I ever start another layout, a requirement will be a large logging area.

It do look like Jeffrey may be getting some rain and quite a bit of wind down there!  I did check nearby where he lives and luckily they are not going to get any snow!  So relax Jeffrey!  Hey guy!  I do hope you stay safe during the storm!!!

I feel very lucky THAT there were no thunderstorms coming by while the family was gathered here today.  Been sunny and hot!  Actually we set a new record for the 3rd. of September here today.  90°F out there...  The house with the air conditioner was the preferred spot right after we ate.  I came upstairs from showing people the layout and it felt like an oven in the house.  It was 85° up there...  I did some checking around and found that #2 granddaughter had been pushing buttons again!  she had turned the air conditioner to fan only!!!  She is in a phase where she is into everything!  Livy is very sweet and helpful....  Hope in couple years her sister will take right after her!

Need to finish cleaning up... Later!

Evening Fellow Dinners!

Flo, I will take a beer please. Flo, I see table 3 and 6 and 9 need to be wiped off. Here let me get that for you. Your welcome Flo, no I don't need a towel. I have PLENTY OF PAPER TOWELS! Why yes Flo, I did get my package from Jeffery, how did you know? Whistling

Just call me Indy today, Indiana Jones that is. I have unwrapped more taped and towels today Indiana Jones saw in the first movie! Whistling

Jeffery you sure your not Egyptian?

I am thrilled with the Delaware PA's, they look brand new! A unit rear truck is hanging, but I sure the clip just pooped off. Color is different than my Delaware A unit, mine is darker. Guess Athearn changed up colors just like the real Railroads did. I am going to hit mine withe some fine polishing compound and see if the blue lightens up any. Yours look much better anyway.

On the 2-10-2 it looks better in person than in the pictures. Did you detail the Mehano engine or did someone add details before you got it? I think it was Monon Guy on the main page asked about Mehano engines and there was a lot of comments about there lack of detail. Not this one! To my half blind eyes, its details look as good as my PCM's and BLI's. I am guessing the tender picks up power that is why there is a tether. Is it safe to unplug, reason I asked is you did not unplug it.

I hope you are half way as happy with the engines I sent you. These are the first engines I got sense the Stewart F7's junk I sent you, so about 2 years or better. Thank you Jeffery!

Garry Happy Birthday! Cake Happy B-Day and hope you have many more!

Bought some new pants today. I finally lucked out in 2 ways.

1 Seems I have lost 2 inches around my ample girth! Big Smile

2 Best part, is the cheapest pants they had in the sizes I thought I needed was $60.00. Being able to use a 2 inch smaller waist I was able to but a pair for $34.99!

Old Job Front. They are still sending me E-Mails of the stores numbers! Seems my old store with there new found Hero has a whole $162.50 for the Month! Laugh While it will not help me get the job back! It does give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside! Laugh You Know [%-), I would bet if the store was open when it should be, and the manager was a wake and not smoking hemp. I would all most bet it would do better, what do you think? Whistling

Well, I will see you all later. Lucky it is Lightning here, so i get out off BBQing tonight. It was just to darn hot.

I don't remember if the tender picks up power or not. I know it has an LED in the back. It is safe to unplug it as long as it's done carefully. The wires can break easily. Can't imagine how I know that. All the details on the loco are what was on it when I got it new.

Alright! Who put Saran Wrap(little tm thing) over the toilet?!

Aw, Don't worry Todd..."Sanitized for YOUR protection"!!!

On another note, but not within the same music score..Happy B-Day Garry, have a Cake for me too!

Well, Steamtown was..well OK. They brought out the Mike, and had quite a few Amtrak trains..celebrating the 40 years...and a few "vintage" NS locos..like SD40-2's! Only hung around for aobut 2 hours then I just could hardly move anymore. Our Train Nut frined with electrical implants in his back had had enough also so we won out over MOH wanting to see the Vintage F series Lackawanna Diesels {to pull the excursion train of the day} and the Mike side-by-side for photo ops and run-bys. But 2 of us were not aobut to climb the ramp over the "get-away tracks" to watch that happen in another hour and a half later. I was just about able to walk to the van when we left. Barely.

Can't wait to see my Dr. on Tuesday, though I DON'T imagine he will be able to immediately tell me why I am so fatigued muscle wise so easily and quickly now. He will probably send me to specialist after specialist to find out why. I button up a shirt and my arms feel like I have been chopping wood all day. I sit down, stand up and my thighs feel like I have been running the NY marathon!!! I get physically exhausted getting into bed and aranging the covers and putting on my CPAP mask. Got to be something SERIOUSLY worng..don't know if it's medications, or something else.

Hope JEFFREY survives down there...tehy say it will follow jet stream to up here and dump more rain on us where it isn't needed either! and then there's Katia heading our way too????

Well, I better close, my fingers/hands are exhausted from just typing this...

Have a great night all

Evening All,

Just got back from the club. I ran a K4 coal drag that the chuff kept speeding up and slowing down on it's own. The headlight is also burned out. Of course everyone had to tell me the light was off. Fixing it is not high on the MRR list right now. If it is too hard to fix (Spectrum) I will have a painted headlightDunce.

I finished ballasting all my sidings and the 2 locomotive tracks in the yard today. I will return to the ballasting in Oct. I received the new dwarf signal from NJI today. I returned the broken one a couple of weeks ago. I will try to get the time to install it tomorrow while MOH is at work.

Ray- Looks like it was a good party.

Jeff- The tower looks 100% better with your painting it.

Galaxy- Sending prayers your way hoping the tiredness is something minor.Angel

Twilight at the Frank, OH freight siding.

Everyone have a good night.

It's not bad right now. If it gets too rough I can decamp to my parents place. They have a great storm shelter.

Evening, Flo - I'll have a  Rio Grande  mug of coffee and a hot fudge brownie sundae a slice of Garry's Happy B-Day cake, please (with French vanilla ice cream, sure). Hey, it's the weekend, so you're taking out all the calories, right? Thanks! Whistling

Kind of a lazy day today, since I got laundry done yesterday. Almost felt retired, except that I wasn't doing as much as several of our 'retired' Diners. Yesterday, after I got back from laundry, I found out the plumber had tried to come by, and the landlady said it might be Tuesday before they fixed my leaking tub/shower faucet. Sad Just as I was figuring on having THAT thing dripping all weekend, the plumber called - said another job wasn't there, and he was about 30-45 minutes away (so I told him I'd wait). He came by (with helper/apprentice) and after getting the water turned off and pulling the mechanism, found that it had (calcium?) buildup on it (Cape's water is fairly hard). So, they made a trip to the parts store and came back with a new shower head and faucet for the tub, and had it installed within 3-4 hours I think. I figure that's not bad for having to make a trip to the store, puling the old faucet and shower head, and also cutting an access hole in the (living room) wall behind the bathroom wall. Put in a nice, neat (plastic-looking)panel to cover the hole. Won't show usually, since I ordinarily have a small bookcase against that wall (where my phone and caller ID sit), and it will hide almost all of it.

Heard something that sounded like sawing wood yesterday when I went by the Diner,  Zzz but when I peeked in, it was just Ray, resting up to do some more chores for his busy day. Ray, sorry to hear about the loss of your longtime Scouting friend. Hard to lose someone who's w**ked for years to help with Scouting activities. Thanks for posting that shot of your engine terminal. Excellent! Bow

Jeff. your new grocery store just confirms what I have told myself at times: New is NOT always better (just different). Hey, no problem to change back and save the money, right? Been there and done that. At least you got a good night's rest (and a good price on your mattress, too, sounds like!).Thumbs Up

Chris, does your friend make decals for other roads than your favorite (no offense meant...)? Hey, was that Wheatfield building a factory, old feed & seed dealer, or what?

Ken, about your 3 letters, I'm sure if you went to their office and asked two different staff members there, you'd get three different explanations about the difference on your unemployment. That, or after you've been drawing it for a while, they might send you a letter and tell you they overpaid you (and want 'their' money back...). Bang Head As (I think) Chris would say, it is what it is (and [ditto] what Jeff said). Yeah, I'd agree with about some (cough, cough...) changes that you mentioned might - just might, you hear - improve THAT store's sales (that, and tossing the guy they have in there now...). Whistling

DerJohn - great progress on your tree-seeding there! Thumbs Up And I like that shot of the (CP, right?) diesels on the side of the cliff - bet they had lotsa fun building that trestle! Surprise

OzJim, did you have to wear a mask when you placed your order with Klein (modeltrainstuff.com)? Smile, Wink & Grin Definitely worth the difference - or do you have to pay customs fees on top of that when they arrive in your area? You must have a lot to do on your layout, from the sounds of it. Oh, USPS will be closed on Monday (Labor Day holiday over here). Tuesday, it should head on out to you!

Garry, good to hear that you've had more MRR'ing time lately. I know you were about meeting yourself coming and going for a while there. Tongue Tied

TGW, adding your OH's followup/scan (and the results) to the Angel list.

Barry, great shot of that (steel?) mill there. Yeah

Sam (ollevon), a belated Welcome to the Diner, and (I'm sure others already asked) can you tell us about your RR plans/progress/time period/prototype modeled (if any)? Glad to have you in here, and definitely feel free to post your photos!

Todd, have you located your local NCIS-12-step group yet? Having gone through withdrawal last few years because a group I co-led was on (gasp! Crying) Tuesday nights, I have been enjoying catching up on NCIS episodes this summer. Smile After your 100-degree episode under the hood, Sigh you're entitled to a little (NCIS) relapse, right? Whistling Besides, who ever said married life was fair? Ah, I see that Kris beat me to that one...Wink

Galaxy, I'd say you two there are overdue for a pause in the needed repairs department soon. What'd your two other roof quotes come in like?

Sue, how'd your time as a dispatcher at your friend's layout go? No cornfield meets, hopefully? Smile, Wink & Grin About the NCIS, I think Todd's talking about reruns (and DVD's), instead of this year's episodes.

Ulrich, as for your being a moderator affecting how I/we view you, I'll say that I would more worry about not wanting to embarrass you or put you in a bind by anything that was said in here by us 'regulars' (now *there's* an oxymoron - "a Diner regular"... Laugh) Hey, how much longer do you and Colonel Klink have to do those 'dance lessons'? As many times as I know that you've had to go (and given how much experience and just plain smarts that you had already), I'd figure that this must be pre-job (instead of on-the-job) training for your new job. Go figure!

On your MIA ATM card, I had thought I'd lost mine one time (a while back), and after I had gone through the rigamarole and got a new card ordered, the card turned up (somebody had found it in the parking lot and turned it in to the grocery store, and they called me)...Oops

Jerry, I like your abandoned siding - depending on how long it's been abandoned, you could add a few taller weeds (like tall grass, etc.) here and there. Reminded me of one summer when I was married and we left one car parked in a garage at the in-laws (they lived on a farm). By the end of the summer, we found a small vine/tendril had grown up through part of the car near the radiator. Confused But it came out easily, anyway. Hey, what's your addition/new plan like for the layout? Ah, I see, looks like you may have doubled the I&S's real estate (maybe more?). Thumbs Up

TSF - get plenty of studying in on your ham radio class, and you'll be picking it up more. Yeah Angel

Curt, thanks for posting your photos, too - looking good there! (Cruise sounds delightful, too...) Smile

CTValley, that probably also means your w**kbench is too dark to do anything there, either, right? Hope you get power back (or at least, that you brought along some MR issues, Kalmbach books, etc....).

Wow Now, Johnboy - THAT's some grade (and power in that Climax), all righty! It always gets me on backwoods logging railroads how they manage to get the locos up those kind of grades - on log-roads, no less!

Prayers for those with checkups/followups/interviews and such this next week, and Jeffrey, keep yourself about the ferry level down there, okay? Will say a Angel that the weather service is right about the winds staying down (and that the total amount of rain stays about where it is right now). Hope to be back in tomorrow and count noses.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Evening Gang: The good news is the big fire is 60% contained. Amry Ann and I drove up there yesterday and it is really a sight to see. Every tree is nothing but a black stick and there is gray ash covering everything. The really good news is that no one has been seriously injured. We also got a close look at the Canadair fire bombers at the Mineral Wells airport. Great aircraft. They land on the lake at speed to load and are off again in minutes. They hold a lot of water and it really helps put down the hot spots. I was sure to thank the crews for there work. I also looked up the Army National Guard crews and gave them a big Well Done and Thank You.

I did get to the basement today and did some more cleaning up. I found some code 70 flex track that I had forgotton I had. I do like the code 70 for my layouts. The layout I have now is code 100 so the 70 stuff really looks small.

I saw the Bachman B&O EM-1 in MR. I compaired it to photos of the DM&IR Yellowstone. Very close. Just needs a new cab and tender and it would be alright for me.

Again it's late  so I guess I'll hit the hay.

Cood Night All

Good evening.

Thanks to everybody for the happy birthday wishes. It was very nice.

I did work on the layout. It was too hot to do outside stuff.  Some of the layout work takes a lot of time. Slowly, I am putting my city put together.

Cheers.

Jeff- The tower looks 100% better with your painting it.

You referring to the tower photos I put in the WPF thread? That's TWO (2) towers. One is unpainted. The other I painted back in the 80's. It was even on my nephew's layout for a while.

Good Evening,

Happy Birthday Garry!!!!

Jerry, great news on your new benchwork. How big is it?  It is just about in the same state as my pending N scale adventure. I did buy a new light to put over it today as it isn't  very bright in the furnace room/ workshop where I had to put it. What did you use for what looks to be a back drop curving around it? Good luck on finding more kato track. If you do have to buy new I found that M.B.Klein had the best price on it.

Had a cool, rainy day here but it was a welcome change to actually get some rain.

Ray, glad to hear the party went well.

Ken, the tender has power pickup on that Mehano loco. I agree that the detail on their Sante Fe is really quite good especially on that CNR version you have. Other Mehano engines aren't that good.

Whoever said model railroading makes you feel like a kid again, well I know its true as I'm still sulking over having to send back my U2g.

Well it's back to fence repairs this weekend. I'm going to do the fence along the side and hope to make a start tomorrow. My wife advises me that we are taking the MIL out for lunch tomorrow so who knows how much I'll get done but there is always Monday. I'd like to get it done tomorrow as the neighbours are away and I have to do the repairs from their side.

Getting late so Good Night All,

CN Charlie

Evening all.  No rain here yet, but I hear its coming.  Not doing anything tonight, kinda tired out.  I think, like everyone else it seems, I need to recharge my batteries.  Waiting on Amy to get home as we speak, then heading off to bed, she's gone to Montgomery all day to put some stuff up (the girls' clothes that they can't wear anymore) for a consignment sale, then stopped by my parent's place to eat dinner and let the girls spend some time with their grandma and grandpa.  So I'm at home alone (yay!)  Not going to have anything tonight, just wanted to stop in and check up on everyone.

Goodnight all!

Tall glass of cool water.

***Garry, HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Hope it's been a grand one for you.

Beyond exhausted tonight after spending much of the day preparing for the storms beginning tomorrow afternoon. Still didn't finish, but simply was unable to do anymore. (disease sucks) Anyway, there is a Torcon 5 rating for this one with at least 6" of rain, so at the very least our farm is going to become a lake. EEKS!!!

Hope all of you getting hit by "Lee" stay safe.

Good Morning,

Happy Birthday Garry!

I didn’t do much Saturday to the layout; I spent some time layout out decals for my Burkhart Coal Co. and my Northern Ohio sugar refinery.  Today I need to harvest the rhubarb in the back garden and pick up around the house.

I posted pictures of my visit to the ELK RIVER logging railroad here: http://community.webshots.com/album/580819871jItFLb?vhost=community

The Elk River RR is a dual gage (HO and narrow gage) railroad set in the early 1930’s in a logging community.  Everything you see is handmade, the buildings are scratch built or Bar Mills kits that have been kit bashed or customized.  This layout will be open to NMRA members during the 2014 National Convention in Cleveland. ~Enjoy

Oh, the leak in the roof; only happens with a very heavy rain.  Walking up on the roof with a garden hose and soaking everything doesn’t work, I also tried to soak behind the gutters to re-create the leak.  If I get 2” of rain less than half a pint of rain water falls into the bucket.  I live in a 1 ½ story bungalow. There is a lower addition on the back of the house, with an upper addition on top of the lower addition.

Fall 2010: On the main roof I hired a roofer to check the flashing along the addition, chimney, and where the wall of the new addition (added in 1973-74) meets.  Install a new bird cage on the chimney and inspect the mortar on the chimney.

March 2011: replaced the upper addition roof with a 90 pound rubber-2 part epoxy system.  The roofing material was stretched over the roof edges behind the gutters.

May 2011: replaced the flashing and roof over the lower addition with a heavy shingle material that is twice as thick as the stuff Home Depot Sells. A rubber membrane was stretched over the edge and behind the gutters.
