Good evening all......I was just up in the train room ( the attic ) and was weathering a Bachman 4-8-2 Spectium steamer. Was a little worried about taking it apart but all went well. Have to wait to finish it I need some light colored pastel chalk for around the whistle, pop valves and steam generator.

Good evening all. Had to catch up to y'all after peeking in the window this morning before w**k (y'all sure do gab a lot). Going to have a grilled chicken salad with bacon bits, honey mustard, and ranch dressings, with a large sweet tea to drink. Might have something else a little later too, but who knows.
Got to do a little railfanning this evening as CSX Q650 passed through Troy. Two AC4400CW's, two SD40-2s, and a AC6000CW on the tail (that's 4400hp x 2, 3200hp x 2, and 6000hp on the end) to pull 135 cars into Troy, drop ten and pick up eight, then scoot on to Montgomery and points everywhere else. Was fun seeing the AC's belch smoke whilst the two SD40-2s purred happily along in the consist. Got a friendly wave from the conductor and a "shave and a hair cut" from the engineer. Wished that I would have had my girls with me, but alas, they were at home driving Amy insane.
Think I'm going to sit right here at the RC and enjoy my salad, been lacking a little green in my diet recently, so time to rack up!
Good evening folks: Managed to make some more trees this afternoon before dinner (pulled pork with BBQ sauce in the stir fry ) and was able to complete the Valley hillside in about an hour, ending about 11:15 . So, here's the progress:
I'm looking forward to getting a start at the orchard (area under that towel) tomorrow. I'd like to get the entire area inside the "lay-in" done by the end of this weekend.
Jeff: That Feed mill/ depot has turned out pretty darned nice - there's more details I see each time it turns up!
Anyway, goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of Healing, Encouragement, Employment, and Peace.
Cheers, John.

Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a decaf to relax a bit before heading off to bed.
Been a long day since I got up a couple hours early only to find out I didn't need to.... Have got a lot of things done, but, as usual, I could use about 4 more days to clean the house before guest arrive. The forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms all weekend! "Oh Joy, Oh Rapture"
Than you Rob. I would have liked to go over for the Calling Hours for him, but I will be helping put up the portable garage tomorrow evening, and the party here is about the same time as the funeral.... Eagle Scout you say? Always knew you were a cut above the rest!
Bama, so it only had about 21,200 HP huh? Sure got what we got out at the Museum beat........
[edit] John, you snuck in while i was typing I think... Nice, very nice job on mountainside!
Think I will say goodnight and head to bed.
Goodnight!

Welp, think I'm going to have a slice of chocolate pie with a tall glass of milk now to finish off things and see what else transpires on here....
Afternoon folks.
I just did an order with modeltrainstuff.com for a bit of gear. This exchange rate is awesome! I have 83 trees, 2 BLMA UP reefers( Man they look good!!) and a micro trains L.E boxcar on order. :D This would have cost me around $400 here in Oz, from modeltrainstuff.com $155, with the exchange rate $145 - that includes shipping!
Speaking of shipping, UPS shipping has gone up!! Nearly $120 for a package to Oz, compared with USPS priority for $33. 2-5 day delivery Vs 7-14 days, I'm happy to wait 2 weeks to keep the $100 in my pocket!
I did some modelling work for the first time in months last night. Got the Hydrocal out and made some cut rock walls in my cutting... will be painting them tonight. When the trees turn up I'll be populating my hillsides.
Going to put the final trackwork down this weekend and probably start ballasting whilst I wait for the tree's to turn up.
DerJohn: great work on that little hillside there.

Good evening.
Rob ... Glad you liked the photos.
Oz James ... I suspect USPS will raise rates to Oz and other places again soon. USPS is having deep financial problems now, and may go into default.
Bama ... Lots of power on that train. CSX was busy around Nashville and Birmingham I noticed on my trip.
I worked more on the layout today
It was hot outside.
Cheers, everybody.

“Cedar Rapids Industrial Branch: Proudly Shipping Yesterday’s Crunch Berries Tomorrow”
Sunny and hot, with a high near 102
Still doing good on my NCIS rehab. Day…...lost count.
Well as I suspected, waste of my time yesterday. Wait, I bet almost all of you can tell this exact story. Just change the subject matter maybe, but we've all had this happen at LEAST once. (ahem);
Half way through the event, you know…AFTER you fight all the stuff like “quick” connectors stuck, the bracket that is juuuust barely in the way, the wire loom that is so perfectly measured out that it will not move even a ½ inch to allow clearance to get your fingers in to fight with aforementioned connectors, the usual stuff. And then I hear it. That voice from over the shoulder,
“this has got to be it, I've replaced everything else. If this doesn‘t work I guess I‘ll take it back to AutoZone (little tm thing) and have them put it back on the machine again.”
I Paaause, I look up, sweat dripping into my eye, on a surprisingly pleasent 100 degree day in the sun working in someone elses drive WHICH, by the way, I absolutely despise doing, “AutoZone (little tm thing). What um..., did (sniff)…. AutoZone (little tm thing)…. say?”
She replied somewhat disgusted thusly “Well, they said number one cylinder is not firing. They recommended a tuneup with new wires.”
(blink blink sniff) “Not firing” I said. “they put it his on a machine and it said number one is…not firing. I see. Well, and I'll humor this for a minute, so for the sake of curiousity why are (clears throat) you replacing the injector?”
To which she replied with a sureness that only a woman can have in this situation, "because you already replaced the coil in the Spring and it went away for a while and so and so replaced the wire like you said. Then it came back and Billy Joe Ray Bob somebody (or whatever his name was) from work replaced that spark plug and that didn‘t work so there’s nothing else to replace, right?”
(blink, blink exhale) “well, I refuse to argue with that kind of logic, but I reeeeally doubt this will solve your problem”
Then she says “well I hope so, but the way things go for me it probably won’t."
Naturally it did not repair the problem. Her response was "This is getting really aggravating and expensive. I guess I’ll just take it back to Autozone and see what they say about it again.”
( nod my head thoughfully) “well, if you‘d have someone actually look at the car with, oh I don‘t know, here’s a thought.. some knowledge, (spit on the ground) then you probably would have a smooth running car now. Oh yes, I forgot. They may want paid.” (gumble grumble) BUT I didn’t actually say that, I just said “yea, guess that’s the best thing to do. WELP! Give me a call if you need “help” putting something else on. It’s time for me to watch Ziva run around”
Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

No. Its a Miller. Miller is the leader in downdraft furnaces designed for mobile homes. They are noted to be good furnaces. Our other one lasted almost 30 years. It's just the blower motor is WAY louder than the old one, and being as it is in the hall, we can hear it. Seems the output is also very high. Whether that will make it heat up faster in here, I do not yet know. It may save us some $$ on the gas bill, but that, too, will remain to be seen.
They told us "mobile home furnaces are only made to last 10 years"...well if that is the case, our old one lasted 3 times that!
Now to get teh roof sealed quickly. I may not survive another winter. Got a guy lined up who I think wanted to do it today- but I have two other guys coming with quotes. The guy lined up is $550. We had a guy in the spring replace our heat tape, but he wanted $750 for the roof- his numer is no longer in service! We will see what teh oter two say. Shouldn't be hard....the drumsof silvercoat with fiberglass strands in it and aobut 1.5 hours to apply. SHould be easy money for anybody doin it.
We were going to do the skirting and roof this year, but the furnace crapping out on us became the new priority.
EDIT: I got top honors...I'm buying COFFEE ONLY! I can't afford anything more!!!
Good Morning All,
Hot and Humid here today with thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday. Monday is my family’s 96th reunion in Rising Sun, OH. Right next to the C&O mainlines. Not sure how much computer time I will have this weekend; need to get the grass cut tonight and I have static grass and buildings to install at the coal mine. I also have to cut that hole larger in my den so I can see where the leak in the roof is. I know it’s not the shingles, had all that replaced this spring. It has to be following a rafter or something and dropping into that room. Yes this leak is turning into my white whale!
Jeff, I do almost all my grocery shopping at Sam’s Club since our Wall-Mart doesn’t have a large food section. I only have to go once every 3-month since everything is in bulk. So it looks like you’ll be getting some weather from that Tropical Depression.
Chris, are you going to have crunch berry hoppers on the layout? Something that might be cool for your layout room: small jars of the bulk commodities your railroad hauls displayed on a shelf. I have small jars of taconite, coal, coke, raw fiberglass, and salt so far. I need to find some dried corn, wheat, and soybeans… CN Charlie; sorry for the loss of your friend and the locomotive.
Galaxy, do they let you put straw bales around the trailer in the winter? I use to surround my mobile home in the winter and it was well worth the effort. Do you need to paint the whole roof or just the seams?

Good morning. It's 73° and sunny. The high will be 92°, sunny and cloudy with a 30% chance of thunderstorms.Didn't get a chance to do it yesterday so I'll likely be clearing the work clutter from the layout today.I bought some 95% fat free microwave butter popcorn yesterday that's sold under a well-known brand name. Never again! There was no trace of the color of butter nor even the taste of it. Overall the taste was like chewing on cardboard. I'll not be buying that brand again. After about ten years of use my old foam mattress pad was worn out. I got a new one yesterday for $10. First good nights sleep I've had in a while.

Good morning, Chloe. I plan to sit in this back booth to see who shows up. Thanks Galaxy for the coffee.
I am off until Tuesday. Lots of layout plans. Larry has the following 3 days off. This morning we discussed how we plan to finish the backdrop for the staging.
Saturday I get to try dispatching on a friends layout. The learning curve could be steep. Fun.

Gary Well I m getting interviews lined up, getting hits off the resume is a big plus. While only one of the possible job's have got me excited I will take what ever I can get.
John Section of layout you are working on looks great! Track that goes behind the hill, is that a dead end or does it go through the wall?
Ray Sorry to hear about your friend passing.
Ulrich missing from the dinner? Starting to think Col Klink threw Ulrich in the cooler! Rather it be his time in Stalag 13 or him watching over the site, he is missed.
Simon Has started a post about where does the time go. One of the better new postings. It is before and after shoots of his son's and layouts. Pretty good post, I posted some pictures.
Well, time to send out some resumes.
See you later, Ken

That STALAG exercise really exhausts me - whenever I am home in the afternoons I could right go to bed Wearing my moderator´s hat also eats away quite some time.I am just glad that the boys behave recently.
Not much to report on the MRR front these days. I still lack some inspiration for my station module. Maybe I need to be kissed by a muse to get that, but don´t let Petra know it. She has been quite fussy recently - I still don´t know why.
Our weather is playing roller coaster. In the morning, it is just an inch above freezing, at noon it is 27° C. We nevertheless enjoy some beautiful Indian Summer days.
Have a good one.
Jeff, there is a trick with that 95% fat free popcorn; pop it and place in a large bowl, then pour melted butter on top and add salt. I found healthy popcorn to have the same taste as Styrofoam packing material…

Jeff, THAT is what I do to the Boy Scout Microwave low fat, low salt, low taste (Styrofoam is tastyeir I bet) popcorn... Nothing wrong with it that a bit of melted butter and some salt can't cure......
Later!
I wonder how Lee is gonna get that whale out of his house. Maybe I don't want to know.
Oh, forgot about this earlier. Yesterday, I cut 4 inches off my hair. No one noticed. Even the ones who said I need to get it cut, nor the girl (friends daughter) that made me promise that if she and her husband got this house and did not move out of the township, I would cut my hair. And she is ALWAYS wanting me to get it cut. Says it makes me look....old . Best one though, is Brenda. Nope, never noticed except this morning when I mentioned it. She claims she saw some hair on the bathroom floor and figured I had cut my bangs again, but admits last night when she got home she didn't notice. Yes you CAN tell it's a lot shorter. About half what it was.
I saw my opportunity to use that as my out. I told her "now I can use this to get off the hook when I don't notice something about you. ". She laughed, sobered up quickly, smile left her face and said..."no you can't".
Married life is not always fair.
Good morning: Mowing is the main agenda item taking me away from mrr today (shopping, since it's Friday of a long weekend will take away from THAT in its turn - but I did get an early start on the bread, so only another 25 minutes and it can come out of the machine.)
I'm thinking the trees are too dark looking. I don't have any light coloured ground foams. Mentioned this to Kris, and she said " Why not mix up some light green paint, put some on the tooth brush, and spritz it on the tops of the trees by pulling your finger across the bristles. That is what I do for applying small random spots to things." So, I may give that a go. Won't be near the LHS until the 13th at the earliest. The thought struck just now that I should experiment with the technique on trees that are in the bin waiting to be planted.
Thanks for the kind remarks, I'm pretty pleased with the way it's shaping up too.

LSWrr Galaxy, do they let you put straw bales around the trailer in the winter? I use to surround my mobile home in the winter and it was well worth the effort. Do you need to paint the whole roof or just the seams?
Ixnay on the ahay. This IS a farming county, but Hay around the trailer, nah, not allowed. This is a "neat park". The whole roof needs to be done. last time was 2002 and supposed to last 10 years. Close.
der5997 Galaxy: "mobile home furnaces are only made to last 10 years" ...THAT ought to be illegal! They should maybe come off guarantee at 10 years - but think of the waste of resources. I know there are employment / economy issues concerning built-in obsolescence, but since this continent consumes (or its inhabitants at any rate) a hugely disproportionate share of the world's resources, built-in obsolescence with malice a-forethought shouldn't be allowed.(Hope that's not too political Ulrich, don't want to increase your time away from mrr.)

well the old Miller last almost 30 years. coulda lasted longer if the parts to fix it were still available. Even my fathers' new house furnace in 1995 had a "lifetime warrranty" that expired after 10 years! He recently replaced the blower motor and that cost him $700. he said if he knew that in advance, he might just have bought a whole new furnace, knowing that it was out of its "lifetime warrantee" and that eventually it would be hard to find parts for it.
Even our new mattress that we bought with a "lifetime warrantee" expires after 10 years!
Apparently 10 years is the "lifetime" of many products.
But built-in obsolence, terminated parts production, changes in Code requirements, etc. all make things obsolete after awhile!
*sigh*
Maybe I need to set something straight:
Whenever I am in here, I am not wearing my moderator´s hat. I leave it on a hook outside the door. I also leave to the two other gentlemen to "police" this thread. The three of us know, though, that the folks in here are considerate and sensible people.
I hope none of you feels affected by me wearing the moderator´s hat. To be frank, I´d rather chuck that task before giving up coming here.
