OZJim:  A couple of times I ordered something from Musicians Friend and found a UPS tracking from their warehouse to Milwaukee WI, thence to New York city, then to Harrisburg PA, then to Miami FLA...before it got to Toronto ON...Confused

Chips with black bean dip, please.

***Ken, if that mini van doesn't have 500,000 miles on it and the engine and tranny is OK, that sounds like a decent price. They are great for hauling larger stuff when it's raining. We use our inherited caravan as a secondary farm vehicle for everything smaller than a round bale.

I got 8 post holes dug while my wife did some target shooting. No, she wasn't shooting at me.Laugh She was at the other end of our property. Tomorrow she will help me set the posts.

Had a scare last night when that same old spot on my pectoral started swelling up. Last time I ended up in the hospital. This time after taking a combo of anti-inflamatories, it went dwon on it's own over night. Whew!

No train time yet. But we do enjoy seeing layout pics here in the Diner. Keep 'em coming folks.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Sue ... Thanks for the comment.  The buildings in the corner are flats, and much of the wall on the left is commercially made back drops for HO scale layouts. Those included a sky, and I blended my painted sky onto them.

Sue, did you see the ELK RIVER LOGGING layout I posted last week?

Sorry I didn't respond.  You know I soak up all the logging stuff.Thumbs Up We have had a very busy layout push, trying to get the staging yard workable.

I didn't make it in to the diner for morning coffee, but did place a Walther's order before I left for the seminar.

Jim,  My climbing trip is rescheduled for October 8/9 due to the heat.  If we are lucky it will still be nice.  The log camp buildings that Larry used are Rslaser kits.

Garry, Union Station scene is great.  Did you use background buildings or are those photos?

Sue

Garry- did you hand paint your backdrop? It looks terrific.

Yes, Curt. Thanks for the comment. I used household flat latex paint. White and two shades of blue.

Here's an early picture while I was painting. If a cloud did not look right, I waited until it dried, and then I used the three colors to change it.

OZ Jim ... Any country will sometimes delay packages at customs (even "Oz") ... All you amy do is wait while the package sits inside a full shipping container.

JimCG  ... Thanks for the comments.

Cheers, everybody.

James- I had a CMX track cleaning car delivered about a month ago that the USPS showed as delivered on their website 24 hours before it was.

Ray- Congratulations on your 2 merit awards. What kind of paperwork do they want to see on them?

Ken- I really like Sushi. I developed a taste for it while stationed in Hawaii. MOH not so much.

Hum, just did a keyword search on The Drunken Fish it is a Japanese restaurant and they serve Sushi.

Has anyone here ate Sushi and what did you think of it? Did you blow chunks or die?

On a serious note give me some names so I can tell them I like it. Would prefer names of dishes that did not make you puke and did like.

Hum, guess lying is not the best way to start out a relation ship.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I'll have the Surf n Turf, medium rare on the steak, tonight, with a baked potato and a trip to the salad bar.  Regular iced tea as well.

Well.......  Today I learned a lot!  I don't mean that in any bad way.  I did get 2 Merit awards out of the 4 models they evaluated.  They were the 2 I felt probably would get a Merit Award.  Most of the others will be used for the models that I will need that don't have to have Merit awards.  The Engine House did get a Merit award, but after checking out the scoring sheet, there was a mistake in the score.  I was given 28 points in a catagory that has a maximum of 20.....  Hmmmm.  I lost a good many points by not providing better documentation on several things to the judges.  Much of this can be easily rectified.  I will produce the items (will have to create most of them) and resubmit the Engine House at a later time.  The other building to get the Merit Award was the bandstand/gazebo in the park at Hopewell Junction.  It just passed....  Much of the reason is that it is a small and fairly easy project, and again I should have given them better documentation.  As I said it was an excellent learning experience and will make future projects much easier to do.

Ken, good luck with the Monday interviews!  Just wondering?  If both you and the better half got home at 300PM, why didn't you check the answering machines yourself?  Oh..... Easier to blame the wife...  Yep, I used to do THAt too.  Never successfully I might add.

I have to get a few outdoor things done before the sunlight completely disappears.

Later!

Afternoon, Zoe - I'll have a grilled chicken Caesar salad please, with a RBF. Thanks!

Todd, in your 'anniversary' photo, you look like you are deep in... meditation (Yeah, that's it!). Happy Anniversary to the two of you (belatedly)! Still get butterflies when she walks into the room, eh? Smile, Wink & Grin

(And Galaxy - tch, tch, tch! Wink) But I do hope (Galaxy) that you get the tiredness to go away (and not to have your cholesterol go back up too far). Stay out of the river/water's reach (and go to the Red Cross shelter if you need to - we'll wait here for you to get back.

We look like we're gonna get some of the spinback (from what remains of hurricane/tropical fizzle Lee's) Storm this evening; have had some minor sprinkles off and on this afternoon. Guess it's time to blame it on... uh... 'global warming' (not to be confused with how much the Diner warms up after a pizza marathon in here - that's due to a different kind of 'greenhouse emission'...Surprise)

Ray, nice photos of the roundhouse! Bow What did you use for your lights (both inside and outside)? And I may want to pick your brain about how you did the Walthers turntable when I get ready to install/assemble my kit. Did you do anything special in building/installing yours? (and is yours the 90' or the bigger one - 135'?)? Ah, I'm encouraged, after reading that yours is the 90' (as is mine). There might be hope for mine yet!

B&O Stan, feel free to stop by the Diner ANY time you have more of those gorgeous paintings of yours to show! Thumbs UpBow Your M1 looks great, too - is she a good runner?

Duke, thanks for the additional shots of the Entertrainment Junction layout.

Jeff, that was funny about playing like a mannequin at the store. Laugh Try not to overdo - you know you pay for it, and we want you around for a long while (and not in the hospital!).

OzJim - as for our US Postal Service's tracking, yeah, they are kinda slow about updating it. In this region, I find that it may be a day or two slow in posting. So for you, it's probably gonna update *after* the postman knocks on your door and you sign for it. Not sure how their site is about updates for international shipments. Definitely not nearly as frequently (or as well-)updated as FedEx or UPS' tracking is. Hang in there, your package (should) be on the way!

Sue, how long did it take you to cool off after climbing in that weather (didn't you say it was going to be 100 F)? I'm sure you drank a lot of water that day...

Ulrich, 10 weeks? Keep focusing on getting home to some MRR w**k, to help you get through each day, maybe. Did you decide what you wanted to do on your station module yet, or still thinking on that? On those guardrails, maybe you could enlarge photos of them, and build you a jig to make your own from strip styrene or such.

Ken, good to have a mechanic/friend like that! Yeah, sometimes the CFO's can fret a bit extra...Whistling (Don't ask me how I know...chuckle..)

Curt, I was a bit slower than I'd thought about getting that PM to you. My bad. I'll try to get it to you tonight . (Done - now go check..)

Paul, good to hear that the fires aren't getting too close to you and Mary Ann. Maybe some tropical storm (less than a full hurricane) will landfall around Galveston and come up near the fires as it curves slightly north and then east.

Bama, cool to hear that your girls got a toot from the engineer. Yeah Bet Mikayla's getting big by now, eh?

Garry, your Union Station (and surrounding city) is coming along NICELY! BowThumbs Up (I know, you're not finished, but what you have done is great! I like what you've done with the lumber/supply yard, also. Yeah

Lee - I have to agree with Jeff, you got a great deal on that Genesis Mikado. Mine cost almost that when i got it off deBay (and mine didn't have DCC installed). Thumbs Up Were you able to open that new email?

Barry, was your last photo taken out one of your upstairs windows? Wink

It's almost District Fair week (starting this coming Sunday with the parade down Broadway to the fairgrounds), and we have the "NO PARKING (by order of Police)" signs by the side of most all roads and streets near my place now. So far, no strange cars showing up in our building's parking lot, so I'm pleased with things. Of course, living only a couple of blocks from the Fair (as the CAW crow flies), that also means no opening the windows next week, no matter how nice the weather gets - why? Let's see, I could mention Fair P.A. announcements until maybe 11 p.m., tractor pull night at the grandstand, concerts there on Thursday (George Jones), Friday (Credence Clearwater Revisited) and Saturday (David Nall/Nail/whagever) of next week. Yeah, some of the concerts might run late... Glad I'm not on-call next week (except for Saturday and Sunday).

Well (trying to figure how to run a siphon out and into a tank car and send some water down to Texas...), Hoping to get the Great Freight Train Car Move done tomorrow (might start on it tonight). Then see about putting together some of the covered hopper kits that I have.

Prayers for healing and comfort, and for rain for our drier areas (and stopping of the rain for our Northeastern and other over-soaked areas). Hope you all get some MRR time in this weekend!

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Far as the engines I got from you I am pleased! I have yet to test run one yet. I think it was you that said running a DC engine on DCC power is bad for the motors. Do you still feel that way?

Have you thought about keeping the BL2 as a Monon engine? It is my favorite paint scheme and and would add some color to your fleet of engines.

If you're using a Digitrax system it shouldn't hurt to run them for a minute or two to test them. I ran the 2-10-2 longer than that on several occasions and it doesn't show any signs of harm. As far as the paint scheme on the BL2, I intend to patch the road name but keep the paint scheme fairly intact. The paint on the F units however is toast. As soon as I get around to setting up the stripping pan both of the F9 shells are going for a dip.

 Afternoon folks.

 Thank you Flo.

Jeffery Glad you like the engines. I was not using them, and well more than likely would never fix them. I still have around 20 that run, and another 15 or so that could use some work. When I started this hobby a short 6 years ago I loved fixing stuff I got off E Bay. Now that I am DCC, afraid of cooking a decoder if something is not right.

Silver Value If any of you have any Kennedy's half dollars from 1965 to 1970 this would be a good time to sale. 65 to 70 (70 where proof only coins) are only 40% silver. New Pawn shop opened and I stopped for the heck of it to see what silver was selling for. I was stunned when I was told the Kennedy half's where worth $4.50 each! I have found 18 of them from local banks in the last 6 months. I paid $9.00 for them and they are worth $81.00. Not a bad little return.

Is it time for a Mini Van? Ick! I hate mini van's but just might be the time for one. Being down to 1 running car I need another car. Bob, my mechanic has a 96 Areostar that was impounded. I could get the van for $650.00 with a clean title. It is rust free, being from Texas but paint is starting fall off. Far from being a eye sore.

OK, it is 5:03 PM Sue and I got home at 3:00 PM, she waits till after 5:00 PM to check messages on the answering machine? Yep, 2 company's wanted to meet with me Monday for a interview's! Got there machines and hope they will call Saturday. One is for a Area Supervisors job for The Drunken Fish restaurant chain. I fit right in with Drunk and Ken in the same word! Laugh Kidding about that part.

 See you all later.

Ulrich ... Thanks for the remark. Actually, I do have another trackside Photo coming soon. The recent N-scale Milwaukee Road article in MR is a layout by a good friend of mine in Michigan.

Jeff        ... You Sundown Shops keep doing remarkable work.

Afternoon folks!

Flo, just a RBF for me right now.  I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter.

The evaluations are in progress....  I already know the Engine House did very well.  He (the leader, an MMR) is finding several other structures he thinks can pass muster as well, so I have been sitting here typing up paprwork for a few more of the structures down there.

Just took them coffee and cookies to bribe help them along....Whistling

Good Afternoon All,

Ok, so I’m behind on posts a little…

Wednesday night Dorothy lost the rear axle on her Blazer and it left her stranded on Dead man’s Curve on I-90, so I was up all night waiting with her for the tow truck, then Thursday she worked 1300 -2100 at the Red Cross office in Parma, OH.  So I had to play chauffer for her.  On the way home from the Red Cross at 1300 I found a new hobby shop and bought a $259 Athearn genesis Mikado w/DCC onboard for only $75 from their consignment shelf.

Lee is stuck between Columbus and Indianapolis causing our weather to rotate in from the east, just plane messing everything up.  Not as bad as what it did to the south, but still cold and damp here.  Flooding in PA…

Stan, very cool paintings!

Ken, that’s cool you guys have been together for so long, heck I was only 6 when you guys met…

Galaxy, sorry to hear about the high water…

Jeff, chicken cooked 18 ways? Let’s see; popcorn chicken, fried chicken, BBQ chicken, chicken fingers, chicken & dumplings, baked chicken, chicken ala king, chicken gumbo, chicken with Chinese vegetables, chicken pot pie, beer can chicken,

Good Afternoon!

Friday afternoon and I am back from this week´s sweat and toil at the STALAG. We are pretty much through our curriculum now and have 4 weeks of repeating that boring stuff before the final exam - yaaaawn. I´ll be bored to death in the coming weeks and might be a little grumpy Whistling

I will try my skill at the hot wire cutter this weekend, building a mock-up of that urban scene. I´ll be using bits and pieces left over Styrofoam to construct the highway overpass and some buildings, paint them gray with a rattle can I still have and see how it will look like. I might keep it for a little longer time to save up some funds to buy the real stuff - in time for Christmas Smile, Wink & Grin

Jeff - the "warbonnet" paint scheme is still among my favorites for the F´s and E´s!

Garry - when do I see your layout featured in MR. It´s absolutely fantastic!

Todd - I read every single word of your posts, even if I need magnifying glasses to do that. Now that does not mean that I always understand them ... Whistling

Paul - I am glad the fires were not too close to you. Hoping for some rain at your end Angel

Jim - those guard rails are what I was looking for, but I am afraid I won´t be able to shelf out $ 18 (turning into $ 30 landed cost) for them. Gold Metal Products - man, the price matches the name.

Flo, coffee and a handful of chocolate chippers, please.

Have a good one

Good morning. It's 71° and sunny. The high will be 86° and it will be sunny. Chance of rain is absolutely zip.

Well, I guess today will be used cleaning up the mess left by Gomez Addams. The layout tends to look like a big train wreck after one of my big rebuild project frenzy's. I hope Ken is as happy with his new locos as I am with mine. I'm going to see if I can find a pair of descent looking horns for the E7. The Trainline horns look absolutely gawky and toy-like and stand out like a couple of sore thumbs. Just about anything would be an improvement.

My ankle is still yelling at me for all the stress I put on it Wednesday. The swelling has gone down a bit.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a hsort stck of blueberry pancakes, lots of real maple syrup, a couple of sausage patties, and my usual dark roast coffie in a SLOW mug this morning.

Didn't get back in here last night even though I spent most of the late evening sitting here at the computer.  Was furiously trying to get documentation done for the items that will get evaluated today.  Turned off the computer around 12:45 this morning and headed out to get some Zzz.

This morning I need to make sure all is ready on the layout for the guys.  I have to clean up a few areas a bit and get some special lighting up for the Engine House which i will remove from the layout after they arrive this afternoon.

I have taken some better shots of various buildings for the documentation as I find that many of the ones I have were "in Progress" shots that don't show the finished building at it's best.  Did a bit of weathering on the doors to the Roundhouse at Hopewell Junction.  Looks better!  I'll be posting some photos tonight.

My prayers to all the people affected by the fires in Texas, as well as those who are still underwater (so to speak) here in the Northeast....

Later!

Good morning.

Barry .. Nice switch stand picture. My Caboose Industries ground throws don't look like that.

Bill T ... I like that old depot picture.

Paul ... We're praying for TX. What a disaster!

I posted some progress pictures of my Union Station in WPF. Here is one of those photos. For my explanation and another photo go to WPF.

Here's another picture, but I did not put it in WPF. It is a building supply industry on the outskirts of the city.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a stack of plain pancakes with Oleo, maple flavored corn syrup, a serving of over cooked scrambled eggs that have been sitting on a plate for 23, no make that 27minutes, some microwave sausage links, freezer burned and dry, cold tough white toast, aaand some under ripe tasteless fruit in a cup still partially frozen please. Thanks. Ah, a real Chicago style breakfast.

Tomorrow’s the day and I can hardly wait. Life here is not pleasant.

Ulrich- I don’t know why things happen with my posts sometimes. I type my posts in word in font 10. Copy and Paste to the….whatever that things called, and it posts in number 2 size. Yesterday, all I did was in the Word processor, change the Font size of Good Morning!!! To Font size 14. When I pasted, it appeared to be the same size as always. Until I clicked POST and then the actual post size was small. I went back and edited the post changing the Font size to 2 and it changed it a bit larger on the edit screen, but still posted the same size. I have had issues with the post in the past as pertains to formatting and the “willingness” shall we say, of the site to accept the corrections. So, this time after one attempt I decided to say forget it.

If you can’t read it, you reeeally didn’t miss much.Laugh

Jim- The shave is up in the air right now. Brenda is apprehensive about itWhistling. Not just because she has seen me “uncovered” so to speak, but she has also heard me over the last couple years talking about experimenting when I do. I’m not sure she is at all comfortable with the possibility of me appearing in public with her while sporting the Mutton Chops look.Mischief

Aussie Jim- Of the 3 main services here in the States, USPS, UPS, and Fedex, by and large the worst one, in MY experience, at updating their site is UPS. Many times I am opening my package and the site still says it’s awaiting pickup at the place were the sender originally dropped it off at. I know some people that would show that mechanic what the ceiling looked like from the floor.

Paul- Glad you stopped in, I heard there were a few people who lost their lives ( I believe they said 4? I don‘t usually listen to the radio, but when I do, I listen to a station out of Austin while on the computer. ) and I began to worry a bit. I didn’t hear where the fires they were referring too were near, but I knew you had some around you. Glad you guys are doing as well as can be expected.

Well. It’s raining now, just a drizzle, but it’s raining. Brenda is rather upset by the fact that it hasn’t rained for almost two months and with, at many times, a better chance of rain, it decides to rain….nowGrumpy. It also has a chance of rain for tomorrow. The Fall Festival day. She’s….rather touchy about now so it’s in my best interest to just stay clear.Zip it!

If possible.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Big Coffee to go.

L&M Tim Yep, I am luck to have Bob as my repair shop. I think one of the reason's he been so helpful is he knows I know the business. I was still running a body shop when I first started using him. We would swap war stories and such. More than a few times his estimate on repair cost was higher than what the repair cost. When I had the extra money, I would leave him and Steve a tip for soda's or lunch.

Now, he has been wrong a few times as well. One day the Daytona would not start and I had to take the wife's car to work. Called Bob and told him to pick up the Daytona. Bob got it to his shop and saw the car was low on gas. He hit the gas tank a few times, it sound hollow so he added 2 gallons of gas. Car started right up! Bill was $66.00 for two gallons of gas? (had asked him to take some gas with him to pick up the car) Drove the 600 feet and died. Walked back to Bob's and he asked me where the car was? I just smiled and ask if he was going to charge me for another tow. Big Smile He didn't, fuel pump was bad.

Finally raining here. Not in a hurry for the grass to grow, but it is about time.

Need to get going for the interview.

           See you all later.
