Good Afternoon..

Spent part of my afternoon working on the layout..and got to run some trains as well! Now what I need to do is check for some loose ballast..as it appears that some of this has got into a couple of switches ...

This morning I stripped three Athearn locos for parts. An SD9 and a pair of Alco P's (PA2/PB2). Parts taken included decoders (Bachmann), motors, gears and in the case of the PA2 the horns.

I used the horns from the PA2 on the E7 I recently acquired. The existing holes were too small. I thought a 3/64" bit would be big enough but even those holes were too small. Next in line was a 1/16" bit. I thought that if I went any bigger I was going to have use a fly swatter to kill anything that crawled out. The 1/16" bit did the trick. The new horns fit perfectly and a little super glue should insure they stay put.

Ken, the reviewer shouldn’t have to ask you to explain something; it should be documented on your resume if it applies to the posted job description.  The answers you provide on the application should be supported in your resume. You shouldn’t use bullets, abbreviations, acronyms or short sell yourself.  The resume should be directly to the point, don’t confine yourself to 3 pages if you have 6 pages of experience. If you provide a phone number until you get the job you should practice answering the phone: This is Ken, may I help you.  Even if you know who is calling, it will become a habit for when the job offer calls you back.  It shows your professional on and off the job.  You sell things for a living; sell yourself to the potential employer.

If your take a resume class in High School or College and your 18-24 years old I bet you’ll have a 1-3 page resume.  If you’re like me and have been working since 1985 you’ll need more than 3 pages.

Think of it this way: I want to replace 5 windows in the back of my house; I want double hung, white vinyl windows.  I have contractors stopping out the next 4 days for an estimate.  How many out of 4 vendors will take my order and leave and how many will give me a 1-2 hour sales pitch?  I'm going to have these windows for a long time and I need to know everything about them before I choose one model over the other...

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes (while they are still in season), bacon, and lots of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  Thank you!

So far we are having a great day here in the Finger Lakes region, currently 65°F under sunny skies with a high of 71°F.  Absolutely perfect out there....

Galaxy sounds like you had quite an experience down there!  I hope the clean up goes well for all of the folks with property destroyed during the storm!

TMarsh

Oh Ray- Sorry, didn't mean to leave you hanging. Almost forgot. The Surpentine belt. The 4 bazillion point vehicle inspection you were going to have. They always point out the "cracked serpantine belt". Neglecting to mention they will crack fairly quickly and that is acceptable as long as the cracks are not lined across the belt or if chunks are missing. But hey, to those not in the know, the belt looks like a cracked mess and they sell a belt.

Todd....  Ah the belt.  OK, I get it.  THAT type of stuff is why I'm willing to pay a bit more and only patronize honest businesses that I trust.  When I get something like the serpentine belt con, THAT is the last they see of me.  Also one of the reasons THAT Mall Wart hasn't gotten 1¢ from me let alone $20 over the last 15 years.  If THAT is the only place I can buy it, I guess I don't need it.  I try to follow Mahatma Gandhi's "Be the change you want to see in the world!"  (Not always sucessful......Whistling).

Guess I best be getting to the day's tasks.

Catch you all later!

Good Afternoon,

The STALAG has not been at all bad today - the smoke is clearing up a little, showing a good chance of a job at the end of it. I hope this one materializes and takes me into retirement in ten year´s time...

Galaxy - great to hear that you and your family got through the disaster unhurt. We was worried, mate! Shocking report you gave us - my prayers to those who had to suffer a loss of whatever kind!

Ken - my "long" resume has 7 pages, my short one just two. There is no set rule for a resume, but the higher the requirements for a job are, the more proof of capabilities and competence you will have to give. I have to admit, that we do things completely differently here in Germany. A job application has to have a covering letter, explaining briefly why you apply for that specific job and the company offering the position, a resume and employer´s references. In my case, that´s a 40 page package (who´s going to read all this?). I think that Lee has put it to the point - your resume should be focused on the qualifications required for the job.

Got some "homework" to do - CUL!

 Morning Folks

Flo, eggs over easy, hash browns and coffee please.

Had quite the storm last night, well no comparison to Galaxy's. Looks like we finally got a fair amount of rain. Today's high will be 68 degrees.

Lee thanks for taking a interest in the quest for a better resume.

"The 1-2 page resume doesn’t work anymore."

So Lee, it should be longer or shorter? Last training I had on the subject you wanted a short to the point resume, not a small book? But, things could have changed.

One I am looking at modeling mine after features high lights of my career like (10 years of experience in running multiple stores for 2 nation wide company's)

Guess I should all so look at the Government Job links you gave me. I did save it.

Galaxy Glad you have power again. Do you have home owners insurances? In the ice storm of 2006 we where without power for a few days. We turned in $200.00 in spoiled food to our insurances company and they covered the lost.

Well, I drop by a little later.

Hi guys, and Sue,

First I was gonna quote copy all those who commented while I was without power and dind't have internet access. But there were so many! SO I will say  HEARTY THANK YOU TO ALL WHO WERE CONCERNED ABOUT US DURNING THE CATASTROPHIC FLOODING THE BESEACHED OUR AREA!

I promised y'all an accounting of what happened lately.

For those who don't know, the Greater Binghamton area is settled on the BANKS and surrounding hills of the Susquehanna River {abbreviated "S" hereon} and the CHenango River { "C" hereafter} and ALL their creeks and stream tributaries running down from the mighty  hills. a few Areas are lower-level on the banks, But nowhere is it ever below the rivers and creeks, like New Orleans is below sea level!.There are a few other rivers in the surounding area and counties also that cause trouble for floks there.. I live in Tioga COunty and Broome county is in my back yard where Binghamton and the Greater Binghamton area is.

My town, according to the Sunday PAper got just over 10" of rain in roughly a 24 period. I was watching TV and news on Wed. that showed areas like West COrners {the creek did it}, Old Vestal Road neighborhods being flooded rapidly and deeply by the river/ and run-off from the hills., so I knew we were getting a lot. I could also tell by the rain on my tinny-tin roof of my trailer {badly needly resealing} and by the "river" flowwing down the road in front and the ponding in my yard and drive we were getting a pounding. Wednesday night we went to bed about 9=9:30 as usual, but at almost exactly the power went off and set off the alarm on my Oxygen generator! Then it came back on, then off again. Finally all power was out at 2:15 Thurday early AM.

First, I would like to say we DO sit "high and dry" based on the 2006 flood that hit the are hard, BUT NOT as hard as we got nailed getting Tropical storm LEE, his gathering of additional stroms and rains as he proceeded up the East Coast and JUST AFTER having Hurrincane Irene dump on us the week before! The S river would have to flood a 4 lane interstate {which it DID} AND cross a 4/2 lane local highway/parkway {which it DID} and come up about another 50 feet before lapping at our door. Even then, we have about 2-3 feet of clearnace before it would be IN our trailer. SO we are lucky I guess.

The electric subsation is located in a lower-land area called Castle Gardens, which is flood prone. WHne the water reaches and submerges the substation, our power goes out or is cut off. SO THAT happened on Thurdays at 2:15 AM. Probelmn is, they have to wiat for the water to receed, the station to "dry out" and get washed down BEFORE they can turn it back on. When the power went out then, MOH {My Other Half} said "what do we do now?" I said "we go back to sleep, there is nothing we can do and keep your flashlight handy. The pweer was out from Thurday 2:15 AM til Monday about 6-6:30 PM!!!

We have lots of Tea Light candles {burn about 4 hours} and have two regual Oil lamp, one large oil lamp, and one small oil lamp too. Growing up in Owego area, the power was out every othe week, so We learned to keep Kerosene lamps {at the time} on hand. MOH also learned to keep oil lamps {safer} on hand and bought two new ones to replace old ones a few odd years ago We have a battery operated radio to get info on, but I swear, in such a catastrophy you would think they would give more local news!!!!

The river breached the older flood walls on the E side of Binghamton {hereafter Bingo or B}, causing evacuations and people there to loose a lot, the walls HELD in 2006 flood, but not this time}. They were also concerned aobut washout at the base of the flood walls like what happened in new Orleans. BUt that part seemed to hold. The evacuated the southern part of Binghamton as the river runs right along a the parkway highway there and flooded in areas that had not had flooding before! W side was bascially oK, but some areas were evacuated and Downtown Bingo was evacuated, especially BU student housing and student auxilary campus downtown. Much of bingo was evaced to shelters. SOme shelters had to then be closed as they flooded and sought higher-ground shelters.

The N part of the city of Johnson city, a suburb, had water racing down Reynolds road by the Oakdale Mall  to Harry L. Drive and flooded the stores and plazas and housing there. ANy lower lying areas or river hugging areas in Endicott got flooded.

Some people were only lucky to have a few feet of water in thier basement, but that destroys things in a finished basemnt and destroys things stored or used in the basement {washer/dryer/water heater/furnace/ Model Railroad!.

The whole village of OWEGO nearby, and the county Seat of Tioga county was flooded and rapidly. SOme employees from the Owego store were shifted to work at the store MOH works at in Bighmaton {stayed dry, but a trick to get to} and they said the Nat. Guard came in, siezed the intercom and said " ALL customers and emplyees have SEVEN MINUTES to Evacuate this building!" It was built higher than htat area around it, bu not high enough apparently. Besides with teh town flooding fast, it was get out of get flooded! There is STILL a ban on ALL traffic in the downtown Owego part. My father lives outside  owego, and had some water come into his basement from teh hills behind him, which is a trick as he re-graded the yard DOwn AWay from the house several years ago. The "natural ditch" he left didn't do a good job of diverting water. He just had spillage or up flow from the floor drain, not feet or inches, enough to destroy some things sitting on the floor, but not enough to flood.

There are other towns around here that got washed away.

SOme dykes around here were breached by height or by water seeping in around them, or reverse pressuring flood gates.

We basically are high and dry, but socked in by water. There is one over-teh-hills-and-through-the-woods way we have to possibly get out. IF the bridge at teh ed doesn't get washed away. the area next to the bridge saw some serious back errosion, so I don't know how safe teh will consider it in the future. The one road was closed off for immediate repaving as the shoulders were gushed away, the pavement sliding and crumbling and the sheer extra volume of traffic on the steep hillroad. Surprisingly enouhg there was a shelter near us open, but we had no need of them.

Becasue so many roads were underwater, and of course "rubber neckers" out to see the sights, the open roads were clogged for those going for supplies or to/from work.

Being without power is bad enough, but for days on end, a raw deal! WOuldn't you know it,... just when  our Train nut friend said he'd loan us the $ to get a generator, and the store actually got to open {Harbor Freight Tools} nad Got some into stock, and we get it, gas cans and heavy duty extension cords and get it out of the box and set up on cinder blocks 4 feet from the nearest structure, THe BLOODY POWER CAME BACK ON!!!

Dry ICe only goes SO far in protecting your Freezer. WOuldn't you know that Price Chopper had Mega sales on beef..including NY strip seaks at what $2.99 or $3.99 a pound, and other GREAT deals that I had just packed our refer/freezer ful as well as the small upright freezer with meat and beef! Dry ice only goes so far in protecting it and after eating some meat that had defrosted in the freezer but looked and smelled ok made us both sick and vomited it back up! Not to mention the daily treks to go FIND the dry ice. The one firestation nearby had boxes of MREs and I should have asked for some. SPam and tuna and Peanut butter/jelly only go so far as power is out!!!! SO longer story short, I had to throw out the two freezers of food as the only food that APPEARED to stay frozen was immediately right aorund the dry ice. Cleaned out the fridge too. HAd to go shopping to replace stuff....$200 smackers.

Good thing I have credit cards. We did eat out on Monday though at restaurants NOT under boil wter advisories and OPEN WITH FOOD.

We have a little portable camping stove that has a base for teh small propane tanks and screws on top to make mini-gas stove. That was what we had to cook and heat water on. TG for "instant" {burned} coffee!

MOst towns/counties are still under States of Emergency, and travel advisories. We are still under boil water advisory. Gov. Cuomo immediately sought Federal aid for both Irene and Lee, so many will have help. Farmers lost crops naturally.

Our generator is "not rated for sensitive electronic items like TVs, stereos, and computers and printers without a {even flow} current controller adn adequate surge protectors inplace". BUMMER!

We still ahve to oil it, ad gas it up and make sure it actually starts and runs ans operates something!!!! We were worried someone might steal it and had the store employees load it up when I backed up to the pallet of them. But at home, It took 3 men, 2 boys and a mule to get ti out. Not really, MOH, myself  with my bad back and our Train nut friend {also with very bad back} who loaned us the money to get it got it out. As much as it weighs, I don't think anyone will "run off" easily with it! It is 6500 watt surge, 5500 watt running with electric start option, but noone sells the bloody battery for it. "O, its just a motorcycle battery"...Wally world had about 100 different mortor cycle batteries,a dn none looked to fit eht space in the battery holder. I don't think Harbor Freight even sells them online! Whata  crock to charge for "electric start" when you cant get a battery.I don't know maybe any 12 volt, 70 CCA battery willl do, but will the battery clips on the generator work???

WEll, The roofers are due at 10:30, and I have a TON of laundry to do and to get teh dishwasher done so I'd better go.

There are still people without power, without homes, who "can't get tehre from here" and such so we are lucky.Thank goodness we have gas hot water and it wasn't shut off..at least we had hot water to shower with. Our neighbor has a gas stove so she could cook, but had electric hot water so had none. SHE got laoned a genereator JUST AS THE POWER CAM BACK ON. Our neighbors down the road got one JUST BEFORE THE POWER CAME VBACK ON!

When we were house hunting we turned down lots of houses protected by dykes, now it is easy to see why!.

I have bored you all to toatl tears now, so I shut up.

I will talk at you all later maybe.

Have a great one!

Geeked

Todd,

my CenAir will do that in high humidity-high heat days when it doesn't get a chance to shut down long enough between cycles.  I'm interested in hearing your HVAC guys comments on the subject.

Good morning. It's 76 and mostly cloudy. The high is expected to be 97 and it will be sunny.

Today I'm looking at several old Athearn locos I haven't run for over a year because of electrical/mechanical problems from the viewpoint of tearing them down for parts. It'll also free up space on the display rack for the GP9 and FP7 that are coming.

Good morning.  I will take time for a cinnamon roll with my coffee today, Chloe.  Your cheery smile helps in the morning.

We put another fascia board up last night.  Looks like I have another Saturday free to work around home.  Maybe I will start on some ballasting.  The Walthers order should arrive Thursday.

Later,

Sue

Edit:  I buy again. Two days in a row.

Good Morning!! Coffee and the Breakfast pile with suasageplease. Thanks.

A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 67. Jeepers that’s a chilly day.

Well yesterday at 4:30pm as I was preparing to leave for w**k, I noticed the AC was running and the house, though not hot, just didn’t seem that cool. Placed my hand over the register and…..no air was coming out. Sounded like the fan was running but no air moving. Of course I had no time to do anything and just shut the system down and left. I did look at one of the pipes and it had ice on it so the unit “froze up”. At about mid 80’s there is no reason for it to freeze up. Especially when it ran just fine at 100+ degrees for that week or two. This morning I went down and turned on the furnace and the AC started blowing and the fan was running and air was moving. Odd. I would understand the air not being cold if the unit froze up, but I don’t get the not blowing air. It sure sounded to me like the fan was turning. Oh well, I’ll call the BIL ( HVAC business owner and all around swell guy. Married to Brenda's twin. The one I trust. The ONLY one I trust) and have him come out and check the thing out. Doesn’t look like We’ll need it for a while anyway. If again til next year.

OK, I understand now. But even if it was as they said, it would concern me that the first thing the HS said was the credit card company wouldn't refund the money after a year. It's not their place to refund the money. It's teh vendors. But anyway, I understand more and more companies are going advance orders so they get a handle on how their item will sell at first and to get some working capital to help with the production costs. BUT, it doesn’t mean I like it. Sounds like most people feel like me and that is, when I hand over my money, I want a product. Shipping time I can live with. But I do not like and would not give money on a “someday”. Would you go to Walmart and give them $20 for an item they may or may not get….someday? I wouldn’t. It appears that for any item of value or detail in the MRR industry though, that seems to be the coming thing. Oh well, what are you gonna do.

Since I fixed the HVAC system so quickly this morningWhistling and I have a little extra time, I just might treat myself to a little Ziva break. IndifferentUM! I mean an episode of NCIS before I get moving on to what ever else comes up. I’m thinking mow Mom’s yard. Unless it’s too cold out.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning All,

The overnight low in Duluth, MN will be 31F this weekend and the low for my area Thursday and Friday will be in the upper 40’s.  That means I need to get a move on and finish all my outside projects!  I went to the building department last night and expressed my dissatisfaction with their storm drain system and I told them I would follow up our conversation with a letter.  I also mentioned that if my letter goes unanswered I will be sending correspondence to any politician or news media that will listen.

Ray, there is a really good historical preservation office in your area; I’ll bet you’ll still see the bridge in pictures and maybe the significant parts of the bridge on display.  In Wisconsin the contractor pulled the base ring of a swing bridge, floated it up river on a barge and installed it on a concrete pad in a park.  I think it only cost $65,000 to build the historical monument.

Ken, I’ve taken several resume classes and you can’t have a generic resume (unless you just graduated from High School).  It must target the job you’re applying for.  Everything needs to be relevant.  I can take a M-60 from a sand storm, disassemble it, oil, safety function test the weapon, and return it to field ready condition in under 5 minutes blindfolded, but they really didn’t care about that when I applied for the bridge job.  When I applied I didn’t have any obvious qualifications for this job except I took highlights from skills I possessed and showed the similarity of those skills to the requirements of the job announcement.  The 1-2 page resume doesn’t work anymore.  Hiring screeners are looking for relevance, if you have a 5 page resume that is on target for the job they will read the whole thing, if the first page is irrelevant they will stop reading and you won’t make the first cut.  They said the reason I was hired over the others; my resume had complete sentences, paragraphs built from more than 3 sentences, and the first page told a story of what I had done and what I was capable of doing.  They didn’t even do interviews, I was hired at the next highest pay slot than the advertised position.  8 people made the final cut out of about 25 applicants: I competed against a retired W3, W4, E8, E9, O4, O5, and two O6’s, and I was a retired E6.  The last resume instructor I sat in front of uses me as an example of what effective resume writing can do in all of his classes.

L&N, more and more all the quality locomotives are advance orders.  It hurts us bargain hunters at the end of the year because nobody carries a shelf of locomotives anymore.  BLI is almost all advance orders now.

If you can rent a car the Canadian Railway Museum also called Exporail, is located just south of Montreal at 110 rue Saint-Pierre, Saint-Constant ( Delson).  I've never been but they apparently have a great collection.

Good Morning Folks!

Woke up early today, still haunted by sleeping issues.

We wrote a test at the STALAG yesterday. My score was 66 points out of 70, which I think is pretty good for not doing any prep w*rk Devil.  The exam will be in three weeks - how to cover that time without getting bored to deatth?

Janie, stack of pancakes & maple syrup, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages & coffee, please.

J.R. - getting hauled off to interrogation for buying a train ticket for a same day ride? Were the girls wearing an Arab veil? Without getting into politics, we are not used to this in Europe. Within the European Union, we have no border controls. I can travel from Sweden via Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium to France in one day without having to show a passport. Quite convenient!

Pretty bad weather in our neck of the woods. Petra and I are still waiting for summer to "happen", but I guess we missed it for this year.

Have a good one!

Good Evening All,

The Adirondack got in an hour late to Montreal due to a tree falling on the tracks that they couldn't move with the locomotive and tools on board. Plus an hour and a half at Canadian imigration. Tip to travelers, don't buy tickets the day of the trip, the two nice German girls (from Berlin Ulrich) got hauled off to interogation for that. Hope the return trip next week goes better. Also don't know why they don't board the immigration people an hour before the border so they can get the easy stuff done before we arrive. They control access on and off anyway so should not be a problem controling who's been checked don't you think?

Jeff - Guam to Diego Garcia puts the entire Mideast within reach. Libya would have been from Europe, so maybe Syria? That dude needs a good kicking.

Trying to find rail  stuff in Montreal for tomorrow as we have a day layover. Catch y'all later.  J.R.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a decaf....  I'd have another slice of THAT blueberry pie, but i just took my blood sugar. Surprise  Not terrible, but a bit more than I like it to be.

Got quite a few things done today.  Took the Wistle post sign over to a gravestone dealer to get it sand blasted.  I know the family well.  The owners wife is the granddaughter of a lady who lived right across the street when we moved in here.  Wonderful lady who died of bone cancer less than a week after my wife died of leukemia.  Anyway THAT took a while as I sat and chatted a while......  Taught their kids at the Middle School.  Then I had to take the Yaris in for service.  Had them do the "works" in service and a 27 point inspection of the car.  Did an oil change w/ filter, topped off all fluids, and a few other items...  Came to $48....  With tax and discounts from a couple coupons I had.  Came home, stopped at the Mennonite Farm market and got a couple ears of corn, shooped at BJ's, picked beans, and finally sat down this evening after supper to start the drawings for the Octagon Blacksmiths shop I am going to build at the Quarry (prototype was built in 1832 and is still standing).  I need to drive over and sneak some better photos and grab a few measurements.

The Octagon Barn will cover and hide the tortoise machine sitting above the plywood (there is not enough room underneath with the track to install the usual way).

Lee, I quite agree with you.  Still, sad to see another historic RR structure disappear.  It is now in a state where restoration would be difficult and very expensive.  We had a old gas station here in Geneva which ended up in the cities hands almost 25 years ago.  They tried to sell it to anyone who would fix it up and use it, but the property had to be maintained as a historic site.....  Full of asbestos, decaying foundation, major water damage.  Up to day it was finally demolished we had a group of nuts cases trying to get the city to put a few million into repairs and keep it.  If they had done restoration soon after it ended up in the cities hands, it might have been possible and might well have been a good thing for us.  But after 20 plus years of fighting over it, it finally came down this summer, area looks much better now!  I almost got tarred, feathered and run out of town by a bunch of the nut cases after telling them it should be torn down before it falls down.......

Looking at a low of 53°F tonight with a few thunderboomers around.  Tomorrow the high will be 73°...  My kind of weather!

Have a great night!

73

Good Evening!

A cool day here with a high of 10C (50F) and there is a frost warning out for tonight.

Ken, it is easy to get the shell off that 2-10-2. There are 2 phillips screws on the bottom right under the cab and a long slot headed screw that is behing the front truck going up to the stack. The whole thing just pivots off, very easy. Heck it was my first hard wire decoder install and I'm sure you won't have any trouble.

Curt, glad to hear your're have a good time on your vacation and got to see a few 'steamers'. Mind you there is nothing like seeing one in action. For me they come alive like no other machine.

Not much new here, just plugging along on my little N scale layout. I've drawn out most of the track plan on the board and hopefully this weekend I'll get the cork down for the area with most of the turnouts. I have 2 crossovers and 4 siding turnouts to place in that area. I'm sure I must be missing something so I'd better go to the LHS on Saturday just to be certain. Besides my wife is working that day so I do need something to do.

Oh, I did order an Atlas RS11 (N scale) in DW&P livery that is supposed to be delivered Thursday. I've been looking for one for a while and finally, as they say now, scored.

See you soon,

CN Charlie

***Jeffrey, where did you say those bombers were headed?

My father and I believe they're headed for Guam. That's their jumping off point for Asia.

Good evening folks:  I think I need a slab of dark chocolate, and a black coffee to help it melt! Not much mrr in the last two days - but I have been preparing for the time when the background orchard scene is done. There's a church I was given some Christmases ago that sits next to the orchard.  It doesn't look very much like the churches one sees in our neck of the woods. So I've started to give it a Maritimes Make-over. Still have to build the steps and wheelchair ramp - other than that, a sign board and some glazing, it's getting there. Main difference apart from the paint to cover the shrubs printed on the walls (no, seriously, they were!) changing white to cream and grey to green, is lowering the tower and putting on those tower corner cornice thingies which are a local feature.  http:/The building is stucco, with stone ashlar corners. That isn't typical - clapboard is more usual; but it's not unknown. Here's where we're to tonight.

OzJim:

Der: Nice work there, I quite like the road. How did you do it?
Thanks Jim. The road bed is AMI track roadbed material (best use I've found for it, I wouldn't use it for laying track ever again) That was cut so as to give a narrowing towards the backdrop, to force the perspective.  I painted it in differing shades of grey (excellent off-the-wall book, BTW, "Shades of Grey") to represent faded asphalt, and repair patches and so on.  The lines are cut (new #11 blade) using masking tape painted as per the photo. Getting the right width is tricky. Getting  the thin strips laid down trickier. The tape adhesive isn't quite up to it sometimes (I was using up old Yard Sale tape anyway) and I had to use Matte Medium as a glue in places.  Patience, a steady hand, not giving up when the whole thing looked like going South (North for you I guess!) That's about it.

Todd:

Der- I really like the difference the foliage is making. Soon I hope to be able to get back to the RR and do some perking up myself. Say, what coloration did you use for your roads? I like that shade.
Yes, I'm with you on that - it's what was in my mind's eye when the hill was just  Picked up some more WS ground and other foam items at the LHS today.  Their "bushes" clumps look interesting.  As to the roads, as I said to OzJim, various shades of grey acrylics to replicate weathered asphalt.  As you'll see when the material I lie on in that space is finally removed, the road has other patch sections with different colours closer to the foreground. Very much trial and error, and "Do I like this?"

Jeff:

In other news I still haven't come across a suitable set of horns for the E7. The ones that are on it stand out like Ronald McDonald's shoes! I'm going to take them off and see if painting them will help. Anything will likely be better that the hot yellow that they are now.
just looked at the photo, and agree, a repaint can't hurt. I'm also thinking that they stand on long looking legs. Would shortening those be possible?  If the bells of the horns need the long leg to clear the roof, could they be filed down. That could perhaps give a less "dramatic" appearance. My 2 Cents

Ulrich:  Looking forward to seeing how the houses fit in.

Johnboy:

That is so dead wrong of them.  I don't believe they should do that.  It should be like a back order and your card only gets hit at the time of shipping.  I would definitely call the Hobby Shop on that one. No one gets my money unless it is in exchange for something ( I want ). So in reality they have had the use of your funds for over a year.  I would also get a hold of the Credit Card Company and explain that you have been waiting for a year without receiving any goods and want a refund and they can black list the H.S. if they so desire.

That just makes me boil    ( I am sure you can tell )

me too - it makes no sense to me that the card would be charged until the goods are shipped. Like Jeff, if I choose to pay (say PayPal) before an item is shipped, that's my choice, and under my control.

Time to get ready for bed - goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing (Barry  for instance), comfort, encouragement, and peace.Angel

Fruit & Veggie Smoothie, please.

***Jeffrey, where did you say those bombers were headed?

***Ken, that's a mighty fine looking loco there. But I really like those trees. Well done!

Nothing much to report on. After setting the trap for a snapping turtle lurking in our pond, my wife helped me set a few fence posts this evening. She was NOT happy having to help, but sadly I did need a hand. If that pectoral thing behaves tonight, I'll do some more posts tomorrow.

Hope y'all are doing well.

Evening all... Well I called the hobby shop again he got a little snippy with me and told me that I need to understand that it,s a advanced order item. In order to be one of the first to get the new TT I paid in advanced (something I was not informed on at the time I ordered it) so lesson learned I will never place an order again unless I,m dead sure it,s not an advanced item and I can expect my purchase to be mail in a couple of daysAngry

Jeffery is the 2-10-2 a Santa Fe type? I need to check on line to see if I can find its parts picture to guide me on taking it apart. Is the road name real, or just your own? Guessing it is your own name bt not sure.

It's a Canadian National (CN) T-2-A "Santa Fe" type. The road name on it is my own.

 Evening Folks!

 Flo Beer please.

Fun stuff first. Jeffery Used Train Store. Big Smile Broke out the 2-10-2 today.

And gave her a test run. I yet to install a decoder so I am running a DC engine on DCC. I was surprised how quite the motor was with no decoder.

At first it was a little clunky and was jerking. I did not clean the wheels first, but after some run time she was pretty smooth.

I ran her with out a train for a while on the Mining Loop. I was so pleased with how the engine ran, I pulled the Y6 b off the main and lashed up its 20 car train to the 2-10-2.

Well, it spun it drivers pretty quick. Finally got her to pull a 10 car cover hopper train with no issues. I really enjoyed seeing some new power on the layout today. Far as being lite in the loafers, not worried about that at all. Engine is pretty light so some lead will help. Plus I can get some bull frog snoot and that should do the trick.  Engine track very well, only derailed one time, and more than likely I did not get the pilot wheels on right when I moved it to the main.

Jeffery is the 2-10-2 a Santa Fe type? I need to check on line to see if I can find its parts picture to guide me on taking it apart. Is the road name real, or just your own? Guessing it is your own name bt not sure.

 Work Front

Drunken Fish. Well I am not holding my breath but under the circumstances the interview went well. Seems Mr Munsok never saw my saw my resume and  had no idea why accent Mehe set up the interview. I all so wonder why I was called.

But he was very good about asking questions so I could show him I had the background he could use. He did state I need to redo my resume to reflect the type of job I am applying and all so reflect all of my background. I did take that to heart and I am working on a more modern style resume.

Have a job if I want it. Problem, is I don't really want it but I am more worried I cannot do it!  It is selling lawn care door to door, it does have a $450.00 base + commission. It is cold calling, in other words you just walk up and knock on a door. I am not worried about rejection, hee, hee, hee I am used to that. But the walking, I have bone spurs in my ankle and normally after 45 minutes or so it starts to hurt. After a hour and half I am limping and my toes start to go numb.

My main worry is I don't know if I quite a job because I can't do it, will I still get unemployment in the state of IL? I know if you just quite, you cannot not. Not sure about being physical unable to do the work? Matt the person I spoke with said I could take my time and see if I get any other offers. They train start training every Tuesday. They hire 3 people every week and 2 quite by the third day.

Well, I might drop by later and see what is going on.

The Atlas FP7 has already been shipped. The old boy isn't wasting any time. He must have packed it up the moment he saw my payment hit his account. No word on the GP9 as of yet except that the seller has gotten the payment. But maybe I'm expecting too much of Ebay.

Afternoon All,

I just got back from the VA museum of Transportation. It was great. It was the first time I have been around a real steam locomotive. I am not ashamed to say that when I first saw them I got a chill. I took about 40 pictures there so hopefully they come out OK. I will post some after I get home. A bonus was 2 different NS trains switching alongside the museum while I was there (don't ask me what type of diesels they wereWhistling). A happy bonus was the GG-1 that they have although it is in pretty rough shape.

We leave VA tomorrow morning and head to Charleston. It will take about 6.5 hours so not a bad drive. MOH grew up there so we know people there. Our cruise departs Thursday and returns next week Wednesday. We will spend the day with friends then drive home Thursday (8-9 hours). Then believe it or not we have a skunk show (like a dog show) that Sat. in Kissimmee.

L&N Tim- Can you send me any lessons learned from your building the CMR TT?. Lee has already sent his to me and I plan to purchase one in Jan 2012. I tried sending you a PM but for some reason it wouldn't go through.

Everyone Take Care.

Ray, with anything to be preserved it’s hard for communities to come up with the cash to maintain the object.  I bet if the local government announced all property owners will be charged $60/month extra to maintain an object or structure you would find no opposition to scrapping the item.  For the structure in question it was in the original permit that it be removed when no longer used.  It hasn’t seen a train in several years and is not being maintained, time to fulfill the terms of the permit…

It's pretty noisy here today. The B-52's have been taking off all morning presumably heading for Guam. If that's the case someone is in for for a serious butt kicking. Nothing else happening here for now. Getting ready to go to town to pick up some meds at the pharmacy.
