Where's the OSHA warning?

Caution: do not attempt to change the light bulb in your model train while standing on a chair.

I'll admit I'm in the dark on this issue.

Would have replied sooner but needed the illumination from the computer monitor (carried carefully around the room) to locate the drawer the new bulbs were SUPPOSED to be kept in. [8]

Speaking of carefully, safety concerns haven't been addressed as yet. I may stand in the minority on this matter but I must voice my view that I personally have very limited tolerance to electric shock (despite the fact it may well be the current rage) and my capacity to induce my will power to increase my resistance to it has fallen short. [xx(]

It's a bit off-topic but would I be better off wiring a longer connector cable to my monitor or should I consider keeping a stash of new bulbs in the side drawer of my desk? [?]

I recommend a 300 Ohm resistor with the new bulb if using DCC, or possibly a 220 Ohm, or a 47 Ohm...[%-)] (just been trying to make different brands of coach lighting kits achieve the same brightness without melting anything!).

Nobody's mentioned the bulb manufacturer yet either...if it's Bachmann there'll be another 6 saying "junk it and get something better"...[;)]

Don't forget to mention the arugment about how buying lightbulbs on the Internet because they're cheaper isn't supporting your local brick n' mortar lightbulb shop, unless of course you're buying out of production limited run or used lightbulbs on eBay.[;)]

OUCH, i burnt my fingers while changing said lightbulb that directly or in directly caused me to spill my Mcdonalds coffee onto my other hand. After carefully checking the package that the light bulb came in I see no warning that the light bulb was supposedly HOT.Hmmm did someone mention attorneys {sorry Dave just couldn't help myself} Newsflash just blew another bulb in all places the bathroom, tried to install bulb but it wont screw into the socket Wait says MTH on the package not compatable with anything other than DCS direct control socket..[:D][:D] Terry

Isn't someone going to say that if it weren't for lawyers the bulb would have never burned out in the first place?

Hey Eric,
Since I wasn't here in August, I guess I'd just have to say thanks! I don't think I'd have seen this one if you hadn't resurrected it!

With the new LCD lights, you will never have to worry about this problem again. Until then , burn candles.

Does anyone have a plan of a circuit diagram that'll fix it so the light bulb won't burn out again?

Yes, here it is:

DC+ or L1 Open Switch Lamp DC- or L2

I guarantee that lamp will not burn out as long as the switch stays open!!![(-D][(-D][(-D][swg]

Hey Jim (plane_crazy),

That was toooooo funny! But you forgot the conspiracy theorists who think light bulbs don't emit light but rather suck darkness. After all, when you turn one off, darkness is left everywhere.........

This may be off topic, but is the light bulb in a lamp, a ceiling socket, wall socket, refridgerator, or what? We need more specifics before we can help you with your problem.

...the socket?

And don't forget the 17 people to post questions asking about long-lost Gorre & Daphited light bulbs, or how they were dissappointed to see MDC and Athearn light bulbs be bought out by Horizon light bulbs.

You're splitting the current between the two lights, thus halving the wattage available.
