Good morning. It's 77° and sunny. The high will be 100° and mostly cloudy. The heat will feel like 110° if not higher.

I'm sore, stiff and I can't move around well not to mention that I feel like something you wouldn't want to step in. Even my eyelids feel like they got fried. And that was with a hat and sunglasses on. I'll not be going outside today if I can help it. No layout work planned for today. In fact I'll probably go crawl back into the bed.

I wonder when the guy with the Pacer is going to realize the gas cap is on the OTHER side.

Good Morning All,

After I dragged up from the basement last night I wrote a pretty long post only to find the plug was out of the laptop when I hit send. I know Jeff - shoulda saved it first. I don't normally lose posts so I don't cut and paste them normally.

Ulrich - congrats on your promotion or should I say condolences. I'm sure you'll do a fabulous job as moderator. Does this mean you're the first overseas moderator?

Ray - speaking of moderators, are there rules about publishing pics of the "extra" artwork on those rail cars?  I'll go past the siding whereyou snapped the coal cars in a few weeks as it's on the truck route to Watkins Glen. I've also seen some covered hoppers and tank cars tied up there. More stuff for Corning Glass?

Jim - (ok, both of you) good to see you back and better to see you have time to do some model railroad stuff. Your patience is rewarded.

G - Don't think of Ulrich as an adversary, think of the honor of getting your own personal moderatorIndifferent. Just think of the possibilities!

Curt - I'd tell you to stop in and see some of my old stomping grounds in homestead, but they aren't there anymore. Andrew stomped them. Dons' Bait and Tackle (don't laughh they had a diner attached and not in the bait shop) had the best breakfasts ever. Especially compared to the swill the air force was serving over at the airbase. Speaking of large reptiles, the gators used to crawl up on the road to the antenna site on the edge of the swamp and mid watch was always an adventure swerving to avoid them on the way in. We won't talk about what happened when the water rose and we were the highest ground for all the snakes, spiders and creepy/crawleys in South Florida. It was right out of a creature feature.

Jeff - the B unit looks nice F3 - F7 awww they all look the same after the early swoopy E3-6's. Probably why i prefer the smoky old Alcos and especially the DL109. If I come across a decent looking shell lying around I'll let you know. Try to take it a little easy especially in the heat with all you try to do.

Ken - all you can do is hang in there. Even the bossessesses know you can't sell mattresses without employees. And salesmen that make a reasonable wage are more likely to be productive and effective. Ever been to Sears?  They paid so little in the old days that you could die of neglect before anyone offered to help you or ring you up. Does your company track prospects (floor traffic) vs sales? Seems to me if you have customers you're able to close and that should be worth something in their eyes. Perhaps the suggestion box should hint that the ad campaigns aren't particularly effective?

Rob - glad your back is doing better. The new puppy is cute. Funny, we keep trying to encourage our mutts to bark less. It would help if our neighbors wouldn't let their dog out to roam at 3am.....

Paul - Hope you get some respite from the heat. Some records you can do without.

Jerry - Did I miss something or had you just gotten to the logical end of the old layout? It certainly packed a lot in a smalll space. Keep us posted on your prospects for an expansion.

Time to get busy in the back. I'll see you later.   J.R.

 Good Morning Dinners!

Flo, big cup of Coffee please.

Weather Seems we may get a break today, high will only be 90 degrees! Laugh I am not sure what the high was Wednesday, I am guessing around 97. What little time I spent out side kicked my Caboose. Only good thing about the weather we have been having? There been no rain, so the grass has stopped growing. That is fine with me!

Did not sleep well last night, old couch kicked my butt. Fell like I was kidney punched all night and I am a little sore this morning.

Curt While I am not in a hurry to quite the current job something has to change. It is a shame the store has gone back to being a $30,000.00 store again. Weekday traffic has picked up, but Weekend traffic is still slow.

J.R. While I don't have the figures in front of me, last month we closed around 78% of the people that came in. We do track are contacts, but normally only my self and Shaun look at the numbers till last month. Last month Ben did have me fax over the numbers and are ticket avg was pretty low.

Part of the reason is last month we had 9 sales of $80.00 or less, with only 51sales that bring down the avg pretty quick. Avg income for Belleville IL is $24,000.00 per person, so while I have sold $3,000.00 mattress we don't sale a lot of them. It is a little surprising to me how many people that come in and see a $1,300.00 prices tag and all most have a stroke. While that may sound like a lot, if a person shops around some, that is not a high prices.

So most of my sales for Queen's set's is around $700.00 which is fine. But then you sale a few twins or fulls for $250.00 it brings down the ticket avg.

Flying Saucer found in the ocean by Sweden? Just heard that on the TV when I just went in. Going to see what I can find on line about that one. Alien

See you all a little later.

Good Morning!! Coffee and I’ll just hit the donut bar. Thank you. ( I still don’t see how they fit all this stuff in this one car)

You got us bigtime today Jeff, Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Cooling off and there’s a 40% chance of rain tonight. So, given the weather guessers 50/50 chance, that makes it what maybe…somewhere between 15% and 85%?

JIMCG! Good to see you’re still with us. Thought maybe you having some corn-pewter problems. (stick a hyphen in there and spell check will take most anything. ) Gonna have to start throwing the “Indy” and “CG” back on now that you both are back.

I see there’s a new Sheriff in town. Tall guy with a funny accent. Didn’t catch the name though….Smile, Wink & Grin

Well I see NASA has “blown a hole” in the greenhouse/ Global Warming thing. Of course NASA lies, just like the moon landing. (I have proof Wink)

I rarely use the A/C in my truck unless I am going somewhere I don’t want to arrive sweaty to. But usually I just run with the windows down regardless the heat.

Speaking of that. Was reading the warped track thread. It was interesting to see what people keep their houses internal temps at]. For the record, we keep ours at 74-ish year round. When we manipulate the natural internal temps artificially that is.

Jeff- If you say so. (chuckle) Though I can tell an F unit from a E unit of course, I couldn’t tell you what number they were anyway.

Welp, yesterday Brenda decided was a good day for me to remove the wainscotting (sp?) in one upstairs room at Mom’s. Sounded good as I had all day and it was a horrible job in the first place. Ever heard the term Better left alone? I’m living that nowBang Head. I’m now doing what should have been done during the “great re-insulate the house project” of 1978. I have the thermostat out there set fairly high, 86, because no one is there, and upstairs in a small room I got a little hot in the noggin up there. Then I realized I had a ball cap on and it wasn’t the mesh kind. I call them winter caps. Got a bit of a headache I did. By the time I figured that out, it was late and I was done for the night anyway. Today, I will not make the same mistake. However, it is not as hot and I won't/can't be there as long so...

Back out there today, or this morning anyway. I have one small piece to patch in on the north end of the west wall and then I can mud the that and the north wall. That will likely be all I will get done today though, I have to w**k tonight and it is warm there but the humidity makes the mud dry a bit slower. Then I spray the texture on and check again for more nail holes before painting.

Have I mentioned my campaign for the banishment of paneling nails? Well I'm firing that back up again.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Sir Madog
Jeff - I´d never achieve a nice and smooth paint job like the on on the B unit with a rattle can!

I've had lots of practice at putting on a smooth finish and making descent lines. Painters tape is great stuff! That's how I got stuck with the moniker of 'The Spray Can Rembrandt' contrary to rumors of being a tagger (something I've never done).

Ray - speaking of moderators, are there rules about publishing pics of the "extra" artwork on those rail cars?  I'll go past the siding whereyou snapped the coal cars in a few weeks as it's on the truck route to Watkins Glen. "Extra" artwork???  Just a hand painted car.  No rule about the photo THAT I can see as long as we don't discuss a certain topic........  I checked.  Read them "rules" twice and then once again.  No discussion on my part!  Done took the photo myself, I did.  OK, this better?

J.R., probably no coal cars sitting on THAT siding anymore.  They mothballed the old coal plant in Dresden a few months ago so NS isn't shipping coal to it anymore.  Glad they are finding a better use for the tracks.  I would figure those cars are for Corning Glass.....

Sun is shining here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 73°F with a high of 82 this afternoon.

Later!

Good Morning everyone!

It's been a few days, I thought I'd better drop by to see what's going on!

Happy Birthday Ulrich! I'm very impressed with your newest module. Thanks for letting us see how you create them.

Garry, I FINALLY finished the painting! Well, I have to tweak a few things this morning, I see that I missed the Burlington logo on the tender of 5630. I'm sure there's a few other items that need adjustment as well. Here it is:

Jeff, Nice job on the B unit. I still use spray paint on occasion, it works ok if you know how to use it and YOU know how to use it! Please be careful out there in the heat.

Tom in Ca, I found some great M4 pics, and will be starting ithe painting hopefully this week.

I got a call from my friend Terry in Buffalo two days ago. Terry owns CP Mikado number 5361, and is preparing to sell it to a couple of Canadian fellas who plan on moving it west via CP Rail. Anyway, I've been commissioned to do a painting of her working in the Canadian Rockies. I'll get paid for the painting, and will sign off on the copyright to allow them to make prints of the image for fundraising purposes. I retain the copyright on nearly everything I do, but if it's for a good cause, and this is, I don't mind helping out. I'll let you guys see the image as it nears completion, but probably not the finished painting. We'll see how this goes. Here's the loco as she looked in 1950:

After this painting is finished, I should be w**king on the DM&IR Yellowstone.

Ok, I've wasted enough of everyones time!

Have a good day all!

-Stan

Hey all,Flo can I have a TALL A&W root beer w/ lots of ice? Thanks MMMM thats good as he wipes away the suda from his mustache. The only thing that could improve this is a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream Dinner

Cooled down a little here. We actually recieved some rain yesterday and last night! Phew-it was getting tough! Yard scurmishes. Replace the blade on the Cub Cadet and mowed the yard  which had grown to almost knee high. Ole cubby almost choked out a couple of times. In the heat lost all of my sqaush plants Bang Head Tomatos have survived. Bought an NMRA gauge this week. Will pick up my kadee couplers Saturday.

Ulrich - do they have cowboy/sheriff hats in Germany ? Will we still see post of your N project ?

Jeff - Hope you feel better. I would have thought you would need two wires vs. one wire??

Rob - what was the new pup barking at ?

Todd - Why didnt you turn down the temp for cooler working conditions, heat stroke is very dangerous stuff.

Stan - In a whisper - dont repeat this but I think this is better than the N&W picture you did recently Whistling

Jerry - what kind of deal di you get on the track ? Good one I hope.

Hey where is the RC ?

There are two wires. One white and one black. The white wire stands out, the black one not so much. You gotta look for it.

As far as feeling better I hope I do too. My arms feel tired, my knees are weak and I'm having more problems than usual with my balance.

YGW - yes, we´ve got cowboy hats in Germany - Laugh I will continue to post on my N scale project, although there will be a little slow down on it. I need to put up the shelving before I can continue - right now my desk is pretty much filled with model railroad stuff & Petra slowly starts to complain about it Smile, Wink & Grin

Afternoon all.

Welll I am home after 4 days in Schenectady, NY. Didn't know I was gone did you? Didn't tell anybody cuz one should NEVER reveal online when one isn't home. We had neighbors bring in trash bion and recycle bin and keep an eye out.

I was able to access the site from the hotel's complimentary computer. It had to use IE8 {?} I think to access AOL. Bummer. Now I have these stupid MRR pop-ups buggingh me and I don;t know how to turn off. I also keep getting "Opps" pages everytime I do something..I will be lucky if I get to post this!!! ANy ideas what is wrong? I know IE9( people have had problems, but AOL here at home is DIRECT from Time Warner Cable...did I screw up my access to the site with using their computer??? I tried signing out and back in and no change. Or is the system temporarily hiccuping on MRR's end???

WHY were we there? MOH had some training at COrporate headquarters for work to go to for 2 days, so we drove up monday afternoon, so as to find it before 8AM work call at work, and stayed the extra night to leave thursday. We were gonna stop at Howe Caverns and take the undergrond cave tour, on the way home, but wanted to get home. THAT was the extent of our "vacation this year" Teh company will reinburse for SOME expenses, but not all unless we are lucky. They may only pay for one night on the theory that the 2.5 hour drive {3 with stops along the way to -you know- {keeping it clean Ulrich}.} COuld hve been driven up early AM and one night in Hotle then leave second day after second day of training to come home...so we may only get ONE night reimbursed. We are hoping for at least two nights reimbursements.

ULRICH- I was-as we might say in this country- Joking with you, joshing you, picking on you, funning you, jerking your chain, pulling your leg, BUT, you have now gone "to the dark side"..."come back to us, Luke Skywalker, come back! and be one of us"! With you in here regularly with us, we will have to be on our best behavior now, keep low profiles, and not risk your moderator's rath! NO! Herr Flick! Please do not lock me in the dungeon! I am nothing but a common peasant! I do NOT deserve teh painting of the Fallen MAdona with the big  ----, by VanKlump!

Oh, for those who were wanting me to post a link to the pic of the 2-10-10-4 I saw..it was a photo onthe wall of the hotel and I did not have my digital camera with me. It COULD have been a 2-10-10-2, as the second trailing truck wheels COULD have been the first set of tender wheels. Hard to tell when I looked at it again.. The cab had a single long name on it, unreadable due to angle of the shot and the loco was #802 or #805 marked on the tender. I have yet to do some 'net research on it so someone may beat me to it and find out more. It had no info on the mounted photo there.

ULRICH...find out from the powers that be how I STOP the bloody pop-up offers...my subscription is good til Dec. 2012 Issue, and I really DON''t NEED to renew now!

Well, I hope this posts now!

Italian Roast coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Jeffrey, I like the collapsing tower on that old tower.

Severe thunder-boomer hit late last night so we brought in the puppy. Wife is going to pick up a male puppy next week so she can grow up with a companion. Our old male Unaka was growling at her today. He's just too old to be raising a pup these days.

Been thinking of our layouts a lot lately, just no time for them yet. Farm repairs on top of regular chores are keeping me maxed out in the energy department. Eventually!

Have a great day all.

 Evening Dinners!

Little nippy here at the home front 90 degrees! Garage is a little cold with the A/C going. Whistling House central A/C is not running and the wife has the clothes dyer going!

Did some running around today, went over to MO side of the river and bought $40.00 in gas. Plus I had a few other things to do over there anyway. Saved about 30 cents a gallon at $3.71 for mid-grade, in ILL it is $4.01 or so.

Work Front Nothing really happening on Shaun's watch today. Think he is at around $900.00 so far.

Work Search Finally up dated my Resume and sent out around 15 or so. There was a part time job where I could work from my house. Hope I hear back from that one! Only thing I am afraid of, his I would play with the trains and not do as much works as I should. Whistling

I even applied for a used car sales job. It is for what we called a Buy Here Pay here lot. While I hated new car sales because you had to cheat and steal to make money. At lease at a Buy Here Pay Here lot, the folks all ready know they are being bent over when they come in. Whistling

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u171/dgbseh/pictures%202010/derailedbyhighwater.jpg

You send a PM by clicking on the "Start conversation" link at the bottom of a person's post.

For example look at the bottom of my post here, you will see onthe bottom right a blue link that says "start conversation" if you click on it and type it will send me a PM conversation from you.

*note: be aware with the problems going on with the site currently you may not get to send your PM until they get some bugs out of the system. Kepp trying it over and over to get it through, You wil know it went through when your post shows up in a gray box.

Hum, no comments? Here is a link, you will need to do a copy and paste. Still don't understand how to make a live link with Fire Fox.

This has to be a prank, if you are a Star War buff you will recognizes the shape of the Flying Saucer! Looks like Hans and Chewy had to ditch the Millennium Falcon! AlienWhistlingAlien

Jeffery, does not seem to work the same. On I E all I had to do was a copy and paste. On Fire Fox on the link, it does not turn blue which indicates it is a live link?

Gary I just tried to send you a conversation, and something is wrong. It was just a test, nothing important, like anything I say is. Whistling

Copy the link from the address bar on the site on which you found it. Here you simply type in the name you people to see. Highlight the name and click the blue chain link in the tool bar at the top of the reply box. A box will appear with two or three choices. Paste the link onto the top line where it says 'Link Url'. Go to the bottom of the box and click 'Insert'. You should get this: Ufo Found Off The Coast Of Sweden.

If you can't see the toolbar you can type in [ Url=http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/192216/20110804/ufo-crashed-ufo-flying-saucer-ocean-exploration-team-bimini-road.htm]Ufo Found Off The Coast Of Sweden[ /url]

Remove the two spaces I put in and you should get this: Ufo Found Off The Coast Of Sweden

Evening All,

Well the vacation is just about over. Back to reality. Saw the Everglades today. It reminded me of a murky typical FL waterway in the part we were in. I don't know what I was expecting but I felt let down. We are still planning on stopping in Tampa on the way home.

My son said that the CMX cleaning car that I ordered came in today. It will definitely make it easier to clean the hard to reach areas than by hand like I have been doing.

Ken- Good Luck on your job search.

Everybody have a good night.

Kurt- I was thinking about picking up one of those cleaning cars also.

Well I have had a fun day, my allergies are driving me nuts and went to cut the grass tonight ( first time since June ) it's finally green again and not a shade of yellow or brown. I was about half way through and the engine made a pop noise and there was blue smoke EVERYWHERE!! and not to mention oil spilling on the deck of the mower, for lack of better terms it dun blew up. The last time I saw that color smoke and that burning smell was when I was at a F1 race and Jaques Villeneuve engine went.

well I have to look for a new one now, but the summer we have been having I will only have to cut it again a few more times. I finished the rest of it tonight with a weed wacker

Evenin' folks!

(Hi Bill!)

Janie just a decaf for me.

Barry, I have put you on the prayer list!!!  BTW, what is THAT loco you just posted?  I have never seen one like THAT before yesterday. And this is the second one in 2 days........

I spent the entire day cleaning and sorting stuff hidden in file cabinets for several years....  One whole drawer of odds and ends going back to my Middle School Teaching days.  Hundreds of notes about meetings, schedule changes, fights with idiot administrators, thank you notes from some much better administrators.  Lists of personal equipment I had to sign for to bring it in to use in class.  Letters from parents and one from a bag lady who wanted to help me choose music fro the chorus because she didn't like one I choose for a concert......  And much more.

This evening I tackled a 2 foot tall pile of bank records, medical statements, Insurance papers, and legal nonsense I had to endure for my Mother when she fell and ended up in the Nursing Home to die a month later....  The only "fun" thing was happening upon the letter from the Medicaid account person after my Mother's death.  They of course still wanted all the $$ from my parents house which was sold to their children 13 years earlier.  Needed the name of the estate lawyer (there wasn't one as there was no "estate").  Another copy of the bill of sale for the house (The one in their files evidently wasn't good enough, the account #s of all her bank accounts and holdings, etc., etc., etc.  Here is an excerpt of my letter back to the very "un-civil" service lady:

" Other than the above mentioned bank account containing $656, a 30 year old sofa/day bed, an old reclining chair, a couple lamps, her bed, cheap bookshelves, etc., she didn’t own anything of any great value at her end.  There was also several hundred family photographs and every card she had received during the last 3 years of her life, some very outdated over the counter medications and a pile of magazines she had “borrowed” from various places…… There was no life insurance.  Items that were left, have either been disposed of (given to charity or thrown away) or will be sent to auction in the near future.  If that should amount to more than the $3844 we still owe on her funeral, I will get in touch with you."

Sometimes I am proud of myself....

Doesn't appear to be anything offensive in the above photo (like hand painting or anything).  It was even taken from public property by myself so their isn't any problem with it at all...  Darn!  I'll do better tomorrow..Whistling
