Mornin all.... Well I,m off w--k today but I might go in to check on some things. Think when I get back I,ll finish painting those boxcars I picked up Sat. Also ordered some replacement parts to my Paasche air brush. Thought it would be a good idea in case I lose any parts like I did the other day. I was cleaning it and I lost the retaining nut that holds the color adjust.Crying Luckily I found it on the work benchBig Smile. Have a good mornin all.

My source in Japan offers laser kits for typical Japanese buildings, incl. temples and shrines. They are built much like the real one, but a little expensive Sigh

Good Morning!! Coffee and a chunk of coffee cake with a sizeable plop of calf slobbers please. Thank you.

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING. * HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB TO AROUND 100 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON...WITH DEWPOINTS IN THE MIDDLE 70S. THIS WILL RESULT IN HEAT INDEX VALUES AROUND 110 DEGREES. THE PERIOD BETWEEN NOON AND 6 PM WILL BE THE PRIMARY TIME FRAME FOR THESE EXTREME TEMPERATURES AND HEAT INDEX VALUES.

Nooot sure I’ll be doing much outside. I know, I know, just another day to Paul and Jeffrey, but, it is a good excuse to play with trains. Good excuse? Yes. Will it work? Who knows. Probably not.

Rob- Pretty dog!

TGW- Angel for your Uncle!

Still have my sinus infection. Not bad, just some pressure in the morning (really no more than often times anyway) and that weird smell. And no, I'm not talking beans and fried cabbage kind of smell.

WHICH reminds me Ken, personally I think the fried cabbage is about oh, a 7 or 8. (takes a lot to be a 10 with me). Maybe a 5 or 6. Depends. Hard to say because, like her meatloaf, it never really tastes exactly the same twice, but I like it. Wouldn't wanna eat it every day..., but I like it.

Today is, according to some, the only day I can come close to saying I … “w**k all day” ( I just wanna slap ‘em.Grumpy). Actually, it’s just for an hour in the morning around 9:30-10. Really busts up my morning, but that hour could take two or three depending on when the trucks get to the restaurant. Then I w**k agin at five so clean up begins around 3 and I have to get something to eat, so I can’t really plan too awful much on Tuesdays other than little short things I know I can get done. Actually getting them done is another story. If I was smart, I would get on to finishing the staining of the back porch Brenda started before her Mom fell ill…., without…. Actually…. Falling that is.

Seriously contemplating returning to my original era of the mid seventies. Again. The layout can handle it without mods. I have very few “modern” rolling stock anyway. And only the Dash 8 for loco newer than the ’70’s. And really, the folks around here that would see it, wouldn't know when the locos were made anyway, and unless I told those in the know, well they'd have enough "flaws" to point out they wouldn't even know what year I modeled unless I told 'em. The structures are not “new” so actually it would be very easy. My only concern is vehicles. I have several semi’s and cars that are newer than that. AND the vehicles available are not as plentiful for that era. Oh well. I’ll keep thinking and building the layout with that in mind. Easily done considering like Williamsville, I could probably go back to much earlier with just a couple changed out structures and such. When were roof walks pretty much gone by? I have mainly older rolling stock too so that would work better there. But if I'm not worried about those things now, I wouldn't be worried about it then. Shoot it would take nothing to go back to the fifties or forties at this point.

WHOA! There big fella bustin through the door! I know it’s easy to look up the roofwalk thing, I have, and I will. I just forgot. It’s not really way up there on my list of things in life I reeeally need to remember off the top of my head. Don’t worry, it was just a random thought while talking and it came out. I’ll look it up. (sheesh, some are reeeal serious about that stuff ain’t they)

Anyway, just kinda not been able to let the era go. Why? Oh I suppose it’s my favorite time the ‘70’s. Born back in ‘62 (I love to put it that way), the ’70’s was the decade that I was old enough to actually participate in I guess you’d say. I remember the ‘60’s, but not as well and I was just there sunbathing in a blowup kiddy pool. But the SEVENTIES!  Yes lot’s of fond memories of the seventiesSmile. The Music was good, the beer was good …(ahem. I uh, mean um, so I was told Whistling), you could order a car the way you wanted it, the muscle cars from the sixties and early seventies were plentiful and cheap, and then there was….the halter topWink. Ah the halter top. Greatest clothing design ever.

Welp, guess I’ll get a movin before it gets hot.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning All,

Ulrich, I used a 2-part polyurethane for my Fox Creek module, if you look through my pictures you’ll see the creek.  The WS Water effects are a really good product for moving water.  There is a video on the MRR site that shows how to use a brush to aggravate the water.  I like some of those Japanese structures, I hope you can find one of those tall shrines those are really cool especially in a wooded setting like most of your layout.

Went to the LHS after work yesterday, no purchases, I worked on the owners new laptop setting up for counter orders for 2 hours.  I didn’t charge him, but he had a backdrop kit that was on back order for a customer since January.  I told him that was a nice kit and if the customer didn’t want it I would buy it from him.  So we’ll see if he gives me a small discount…

Thursday is the Coast Guard’s 221st Birthday and work is having an all hands picnic down at the local park.  That’s a 4 hours excused absence from the desk and I’m taking leave on Friday so a 3.5 day weekend is ahead of me.  I’ve already turned down several invitations to help this or that person out with personal projects to keep my time available for some needed R&R and MRR time.

Jeffrey:  86 is plenty hot enough for me, too hot even.  I like it around 75.  The humidity is the real killer though.  But, we often get temperatures of around 104 and even as high as 115 with the heat index.  That's just plain brutal.  I'm glad it doesn't get that hot very often.  You're right, I would melt in the temperatures you get in Louisiana.  Way too hot for me.  Texas would be too hot also, and probably Florida and California.  We spent 9 years in a town about 500 miles or so north of the US/Canada border and although summers were very short, temperatures sometimes got up to the high 90s.  Winters were another story.  Long and cold with temperatures pushing -50 for days on end.  Brrrrrrrr.  We do take water with us when we're out for the day.  We like the kind with just a touch of lemon in it.  Tastes better when it gets hot from leaving it in the car.  How do you survive without air conditioning in the car?  Ours was on constantly when we were driving.  I feel the heat more than most people.  I was sweating like a horse even sitting in the shade at the beach.  Nobody else appeared to be sweating.  It has something to do with my thyroid not working properly.  The doctor is trying medication to make it work properly but nothing is working so far.

Yougottawanta:  Why don't we go in the water?  Well, for myself, I don't swim and I have a fear of water.  I can go wading up to my knees but that's the best I can do.  And I don't float, I sink like a stone in water.  It does help me cool off though to wade in the water, but after seeing all those people in the water yesterday, I was wishing I could do it to cool off.  My wife is severely crippled with arthritis and it's very difficult for her to walk across the sand to the water.  And changing into a bathing suit and back again is very difficult for her.  She does love the water, though.

I'm used to it. I haven't owned a car with working AC for over 15 years. Just one of the hardships I put up with. I like it when I can use my mother's car. The AC is kept on 73 and sometimes I have to turn it off because it gets too cool for me. Pretty funny when you consider I keep my home at 71 year round.

Morning All,

We are going to go to a State Park today that is a barrier island on the Gulf. Hopefully there will be a breeze. MOH works for the State Park system and every time we visit one I am reminded of how beautiful nature is. You tend to forget that living and working in a Urban area.

YGW- Angel Prayers for your Uncle and his family.

Ulrich- The Japanese temple looks neat.

Lee- Happy Coast Guard BirthdayCake They do a tough and amazing job for us.

Everyone have a good day.

Good morning. It's 82° and sunny. The high will be 101° (probably higher) and there's a 20% chance of a thunderstorm or two. The high today will likely feel like 115°.

Nothing much going on today. My parents are out today on medical appointments so I'm down here at their place waiting on my mother's Meals on Wheels to arrive. There are also some cardboard boxes here my father wants me to break down. Not a lot but they're getting in the way. Last night I stripped the Proto 2000 F7B shell. Maybe I'll have time to paint it today. It'll be the same black with white trim as the A unit it'll be permanently mu'd with. The two chassis are hard wired together so the power picked up is shared by the motors of both. It's a simple way of spreading the total pickup over sixteen wheels instead of two independent sets of eight wheels.

Mornin'!

Zoe, I'll have a couple eggs over easy.....  What?  Oh, THAT's right we're up in Canada where all food has to be over cooked....  forgot.  Then I'll have a couple eggs scrambled, side order of bacon, and a double order of the sour dough toast.  THAT's almost as good....  Oh, and some dark roast coffee if you please.

Not going to be extremely hot here in the Finger Lakes today....  Still too hot for my tastes.  Currently 78°F with a high in the mid 80's this afternoon.  My garden is growing, but at an expense.  I have to soak it with the pricey city water supply every other day.  My water bill should be a biggie in the Fall.  Nothing actually planned for today yet.  I may do some (much needed) house cleaning and spend time in the train rooms.

Rob, cute puppy!

Jeffrey, looks like you have another "interesting" project going on.

Bob, IIRC W. C. Fields used to stay away from water too.  Though for a different reason......Whistling

Todd, if I could go back and relive any time in my life....  It would be the 70's.  Had a good teaching job I enjoyed, young family, loving wife, my first new car (cost $2074) a VW Superbeetle, and our first house.   Didn't have the proverbial pot to .....  uh, you know.  No money for much of anything extra, working 1 full time and 3 part time jobs at times, my wife had a full time job as well......  I have not been THAT happy since....... Sigh

Photo of the morning for you:

Mornin' Bill!

Catch you all later!

Good morning, eh....

Where's Bill T? Did he forget his passport?

I recall passports were not needed prior to the 9/11 attacks to travel between USA and Canada.

Looks like it's busy in the diner here with 5 pages already.

Canada, eh. I have spent a lot of time in Canada including train travel. I spent a lot of years working for CN's US subsidiaries, and before VIA I had a CN pass. Some business trips were by train from WIndsor (borders with Detroit) to Toronto or Montreal. When I was a kid, our family traveled in western Canada on Canadian Pacific. Ten years ago, Shelley and I were on VIA from Nova Scotia to Toronto where Amtrak had a train to Chicago via Michigan.

Rob ... Sorry about loss of you dog. I hope the new one works out for you.

Ulrich .. I like your work on the modules. The Japanese station looks neat.  I have seen so many Japanese made models of American trains, it seems unique to see Japanese are actually making Japanese prototypes.

Jeff ... Looks like Sundown Shops has a another great project.

Ray ... Your DIL must have a challenging job. Sorry to hear about the death of a child.

Paul …. That is too hot. How can you grow anything?

JR ... If I'm not mistaken, the Grand Funk Railroad band started in Flint, MI which has a lot of Grand Trunk Western operations.

Curt …. Long, long  ago I camped at a FL state park. Hope you have a good time. Any large reptiles there?

Lee … CG is 221 years old. I bet you do not recall the first day.

YGW …. Sorry about you uncle’s falling from a roof …. That just happened to one of my Nashville relatives a couple of weeks ago. He fell about 20’ from a roof. He owns a roofing company, and there always is the risk of that happening. He also was flown to the hospital, and he had similar injuries.

Jerry … Hope you have a good one, too!

 Cheers, everybody.

Had some extra time at my lunch at w**k, thought I'd drop by.

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

You post that like it's been unusual here in the Great Midwest? I figure that for the last month or so the forecasters were just using copy/paste to put that in their daily forecasts!

Picked up a small stack of HO stuff this weekend from a nice fellow who was looking to unload. Just wish I had more cash or I'd have taken everything he had. As it is I ended up with some nice Bowser PRR boxcars & a caboose, couple of Walthers cars, some old Roundhouse 3-in-1 kits (my first encounter with those) among other goodies. Yet more stuff for the pile of projects to do...

Well, back to the ol' grindstone. Catch y'all later

Indy Jim- (chuckle) You're probably right. They predict the weather the same as I report it. Cut and Paste.

Well, as I predicted, one of the trucks was late and I just got back. No time to get much done before w**k. I could just get something started then have to stop. Sigh And they wonder why I never get anything done.

Like many locations elsewhere, it's to hot and humid here to do much outside. Tweaked my back yesterday, so the priority today is rest.

Have a good day all.

The main part of the painting on the Proto 2000 F7B shell is done. A little touch up and detail painting and it'll be ready for the Midland Gulf Railway decals then an over-spray with Clear Flat.

Here's the newly repainted P2K shell mounted on it's Athearn chassis. It still needs a little work.

Hi Gang: I got down to the basement for a bit this afternoon. I had about 2/3 of the layout cleared off and the track cleaned and then found another box of stuff that had tobe sorted and filled so as to get it out of the way. part of it is still on the layout. Figures. Anyway I am making progress.

I see that Jeff is doing his usual great job in refurbishing those covered wagons. How many is that now, Jeff?

I ordered a 2-8-8-2 from Trainworld that was on sale. It will come in Pennsy but I'll change that. I've been wanting one since Walters brought them out but couldn't afford the price. Trainworld had them on sale for $199.98 so I went for it. It should be here in a week or so. I guess I had better get going on the layout so I can run it. I still haven't run my 1935 Hiawatha.

Well I think that I'll head downstairs and see what Mary Ann wants to do for supper.

Take care everyone.

Evening All,

Hope everyone is well. Went to Lovers Key today...ooh la la. Seriously though, it was nice sitting watching and listening to the waves. We discovered within about 3 minutes that it was way to hot to be sitting in the sun, there was a large gazebo there right by the water so that is where we sat. We were going to do a 3 mile hike after that (in the trees) but a storm front with lightning was rapidly approaching and we decided it was time to go. We did not see any reptiles, they were smarter than the humans today.

Tomorrow I am going to the train museum and I will take pictures. I have driven by it and there is a caboose and I believe a SAL gondola sitting outside it.

Rob- Take care of your back. I have had several issues with mine stemming originally  from lifting badly.

Jeff- That B unit looks great.

Everybody take care.

 Evening Folks

Flo, Beer Please and a Monon Plate Special.

Weather High at work was 99 and home it hit 97 from what the Keyboard Thingy said. I was not hot all day till the drive home. Being close to broke, I did not use the Town Car A/C on the way home. Town Car gas mileage has dropped like a rock now that the A/C system is charged. Before I had the A/C charged I was getting 25 MPG driving round trip to work. Now that the A/C is charged, 22 MPG. With out the A/C I can still get 27 MPG, so tonight I suffered a little.

Work Front My day was OK with $1146.00 in sales. I did hear some bad news but have not got all the details yet. Shaun was working at our Arnold store today with Ryan. While Ryan had stepped out Shaun called me and told me he got a E-Mail that stated they where cutting his base pay from $500.00 to $400.00 a week. Shaun finished in last places in July like I did in June. Thank goodness I was in the middle of the pack in July. Plus I still have claim to setting the all time high in sales numbers at my store.

Shaun started about 3 weeks after I did and had never been in mattress sales before but does have a sales background. There is a learning curve in mattress sales, so he should get better. Yet, he has only made commission 1 time so I do understand to a point why is wages where cut. If I had to make the decision my self I might have done the same thing. BUT, before I would have done it, I would have worked with him. Just not tell him Go Sale Mattress.

Shaun and Becky have had a tuff year. They both worked for the same credit union for 5 years and both late go the same day. Only work his wife has been able to find is part time making $8.85 and working around 18 hours a week at Shop and Save. So that missing $400.00 a month is going to hurt bad.

Well, my head hurts. So I will see you all later.

Evenin'!

Hi Bill!

Janie just a decaf for me tonight.  I'll be relaxing in the back booth.

Some more coal cars waiting to be picked up by NS a couple years ago:

Been a long day here.  I spent most of it sorting, cleaning, throwing stuff out, and taking a car load of stuff to the local recycling center.  Most of it was stuff THAT should have been gotten rid of several years ago....  Like telephone books from 5 or 6 years ago, still neatly piled on the shelf by the computer........  Got rid of (took to the recycle center) some old Battery back up units, a telephone THAT never did work right, a couple of old ART Midi units that are no longer state of the art by any means.....  Sent off an email to a couple of teachers to see if they can use my old Yamaha DX-11 keyboard and an excellent electric bass THAT I will never use again.  I will donate them to the school if they want them.  The Bass I could sell, but I think the synthesizer will go to recycling if they don't want it.

I removed a Router Table from my w*rkbench that I started to assemble about 3 years ago and never could find all the parts nor get it w*rk.....  THAT will go out in the trash in a couple weeks....  The spca is now filled with a Micro Mark belt and disc sander.  Got it assembled and it w*rks!  The bench is better used for equipment that actually functions.  The Router table is a cheapo from the big cheapo store THAt sells mostly cheap crap but says how much money they save you.....  Ah, you know the one....  I should have known at the time but threw away a bunch of bucks on it back then.  Don't have to worry about getting cheap junk from them any more as I don't patronize the place any more!  Never even been in the new Super one they opened a while back and never will.....  I need to find some hand drawn plans I did a few years ago for the Bandstand/Gazebo at Hopewell on the layout....  I will probably get THAT building judged for a Merit Award when the team comes to judge the Engine House.....  But I need to do the paperw*rk and it will be a lot easier if I can find the scriblings I did back then...

Have a good night everyone!  Prayers for all in need!

Good Morning All,

Not much going on, high of 84F, high humidity, chance of thunder storms today.  Looks like Chicago was hit hard last night with the same storm.  I’ll check in later.

Good Morning, Zoe - yes, it's me, NO I did not die in this heat (only felt like I could at times...). I'll have a Santa Fe mug and a cinnamon roll, please 'n' thank you.

I had heard from Garry that you all were about to send out the bloodhounds, so figured I should let you know that I've been busy (note, I did not say productive, just busy) lately, and had not had time to catch up on the many pages of posts I've missed in here. My apologies.

Have been doing some smaller things MRR-related - got a Jordan spreader (going to kitbash a Walthers and an older MDC/Roundhouse kit into 'my own creative interpretation.' (Yeah, that sounds right...)Whistling I also got some REA 40' trailers for some Walthers 54' GSC flatcar kits I have. My apartment is still way too messy, but I've been going to other A/C places until it cools off in the evenings some (to keep my electric bill down). W**k has been... w**k. (What can I say?)

I certainly hope we all get a break from this hot spell (especially Paul B. in Texas, where I think they've had it for way longer than any of the rest of us) and maybe get a little rain for the gardens, farms and lawns. Galaxy, good idea to move the Diner up NOTB in cooler weather. Thumbs Up

I see that Jeff's (still) doing his usual great job on the Midland's motive power. Yeah

And I'll be out for now (glad I wore my rubber soled shoes, after seeing about how other Diners went slippin' and a slidin'...Surprise Hope to get back in later, but I know I'll have missed something by then.

Prayers for some rain and a break in the hot weather, for healing and good night's rest, and for those of you in sales, for an increase on that, as well. AngelAngel

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.
