Jeff- I did 2 tests on scrap track pieces. One with the diluted straight Rust Rail and one with the black added. I will be going with your formula. MOH also likes that best also. With the black added it looks good for grime and the rails kind of disappear into the rails. I might use that in the center of the track after ballasting. Thanks again.

Glad you can use it. Check our 'Weathering Rails' conversation.

Evenin'

Hi Bill!

Flo, just a decaf for me right now.  I'll be in the back booth relaxing for a bit!

I have spent all afternoon and evening doing more cleaning in the office area of my dining room.....  Have filled Five 13 gal trash bags with paper and cardboard for recycling, filed half a large box with wire, old electronic junk and other recyclables to got to the collection center here in town, dusted, vacuumed, rearranged, and now have a back ache......  Tomorrow I will going over to Staples to take advantage of a furniture sale they have going on this week.  All new furniture will soon grace the office space!  The old stuff was a bunch of this and THAT I put together over the years to be able to make CD's and do printing for customers. I will still be able to connect both the G5 and the Macbook to the Mackie Onyx mixer and the Alesis Near Filed Monitors.......Smile, Wink & Grin  But i don't need to store anywhere near as much paper, CD Blanks, and a host of other stuff out here anymore.  Should also give me some space for a fold up table for when i have family over for dinner....  I will also be using the extra spca for practicing my Cordoba Classic Guitar agian.   Yep, I think it is time to get the axe our of the case and get to w*rk!

I hope to get all the above done this week before my sister and one of her students (from her boarding house) come for the weekend.

Barry, the old NYC and PPR (Northern Central) Yards actually were right in Canandaigua.  The photo I posted this morning is now at the edge of a walking trail (Ontario Pathways) that follows the route of the PPR Northern Central.  Nearby is the remains of LISK, Inc.  The building on the right used to have boxcar loading facilities back when I was a kid.

All that remains of the PRR Service facility and roundtable is the back wall foundation:

The building on the far left of the above photo is one I helped a friend and mentor measure a few years ago.  It will become my next major scratchbuild.......

All this is a block from main St. Downtown Canandaigua......  The Finger Lakes Railway uses the couple of tracks left of the yard......  I'll post some more tomorrow.

Hope all of you have a great night!

Evening all, steak dinner, medium, baked tater with butter, side salad with honey mustard dressing and a tall cold sweet tea please.  Today has been a good day, just got finished up with putting the girls to bed (that includes Amy the wife...) and now I'm waiting on some laundry to finish in the washer and the dryer before heading off to bed, so I figured that I would stop in here and chow down a little and check up on things.

On the MRR front: I am continuing to get my mileposts marked out on the railroad so I can correctly ID the various siding and interchange points down.  I'm also working more and more on learning the history of the line and the various industries along the tracks (kinda helps me put together a more "complete" picture).

On the w**k front: the four letter word known as w**k is going well, this week isn't going to be the easiest in the world due to my manager being out at some other stores during the week to help with their inventories, but that won't be too bad, I can handle it, its just nice to be able to bounce things off someone over my head when I come up with a hair-brained idea.

Thanks to all for the well wishes on child #3 being inbound, it is appreciated and we love being a growing family, although I dunno how much longer the house is going to appreciate our growing.  We've been throwing around the idea of building more and more here recently, so I dunno what the future holds, i might just get my train layout room with a house over it.....

I see that my food is here, so I guess I'm going to start working on it and check over some more information I've found on the history of what is now the CSX Dothan Subdivision.

Edit I see that I have TOP honors (haven't gotten that in a while).  Girls whatever the late-nighters and early risers want, please place it on my tab!

 Evening Folks!

Flo, Beer please and a Big Boy Sub and tender of onion rings.

Work Front Well officially a big $0.00. But unofficially $1349.00. Reason it is unofficial is I have not keyed the tickets. 1 customer need to measure there room to make sure the king set will fit. Other one Beth needs to bring in the money Monday. I have known Beth for about 3 years and pretty sure she will be in. Plus she works next door.

Well, that is it for me. See you all later.

Jeff- My wife got the paint for me today so I will start on the rails Thursday. I may add a couple of drops of  black to slightly darken it, but I will see.

Remember that it will dry a bit darker. Try a test patch before adding any black as it may make the color too dark.

Evening All,

Just got done with supper. The open house was a success today but I am glad it is finally done. My legs and back are sore from standing on concrete all day for 2 days. Unfortunately it is back to w**k tomorrow.

Jeff- I made the label number boards for my PA (not E7) and I like them. My wife got the paint for me today so I will start on the rails Thursday. I may add a couple of drops of  black to slightly darken it, but I will see.

Hope Everyone has a good night.

EVENING ALL!!!

Jeffrey-I went to download IE 8 and had several sources from which to choose...Most were for IE9, which I did nto want? I chose what I thought was the most respectable source and started the download, but aborted at an odd question it asked...and I DECLINED to make it my Default webbrowser over AOL. I like AOL never had problems til I accessed AOL and the forum through IE {9?} at teh stupid hotel, which apparently corrupted somehting {?}.. SO today I tried IE just out of curiousity adn it actually loaded all the way to IE8, complete with the torn paper thingy! SInce it is IE 8, I will try the forum onit, though I STILL should have no problems with AOL and the forum! I wills ee how this works out..but if I get a WHOOPS page, I'll nto be happy! It says Welcome to IE 8 so I left teh torn paper thingy alone as it IS IE8.

To those complaining about the heat- I know it is easy to do, but in just 5 months MANY of you will be complaining about the COLD SNAPS! so rest your laurels a bit and appreciate It.

We are expecting StormStormLightning, Lightning and needing Umbrella the rest of the week. WE were thinking of going to Steamtown this Sat, but if it is gonna rain on our parade, maybe not.

Well, I will bounce around the forum and see what is what trying IE 8. Oh, it just occurred to me if IE9 was corrupting my AOL account { malwarebytes showed NO corrZzzuptions}, then maybe AOL will be back to normal!

Hope ULRICH is not feeling lonely in his new job and "not feeling part of the gang" anymore. ANd is sleeping. I told him he thought he had sleepoing problems before, wait til he has to moderate everything we post!

Havea  great evening and a good nights Zzz

Afternoon Gang: Again the tempurture is well over 100F. I'd guess at about 105F.

It's a real nice 99 here. Course the heat index is 106 so that kinda kills it.

Went into town to pick up a few essentials that I couldn't do without. Felt like I was driving a brick oven. Some moron in a little bitty Toyota Corolla cut me off in traffic and almost became the owner of a Toyota pancake. Lucky for him I take the maintenance of my brakes very seriously. The car had California plates and a US Army ID tag so he probably got his license in Afghanistan.

Afternoon Gang: Again the tempurture is well over 100F. I'd guess at about 105F. Im not neer a thermometer right now so that guess will have to do. I was in the basement last night and came across the kit for the Korber 5 stall round house. I got  the floor plan out and put it together. I'll have to do another modual for it and the turn table [ I don't have that yet, but it will have to be a 14" min]. Anyway that is some progress. I also got out my Broadway Limited heavy 2-8-2. It is lettered for the Frisco so it will have to be repainted for Milwaukee Road. The 2-8-8-2 will get repainted for my DS&SE of course. The basement cleaning is still progressing. Of course it was progressing back in 2001 also. It is even warm in the basement. After an hour or so it is time to get upstairs and cool off. That's redeculas.

Well I think that I'll head out and install the wireless thermometer on the tractor.

Take care everyone.

Either way, it had to be something that affects several people and since Jeffrey had two different browsers go haywire, I lean towards something at Kalmbach. But yet Jeffrey also used the compatibility thing and it did not work. (scratches chin) hmmmm. Truthfully I was thinking it was clicked but....maybe it wasn't. Oh well, who knows.  No matter anyhow. I’m good to go now so on to more important things.

Haywire is right! With Firefox I can read the forum OK but I can't get the Reply box or the conversations Reply box to come up. The browser gets lost someplace and not knowing what else to do it just continues to get lost. With IE8 I sometimes get the 'Whoops!' message but I can read the forum well enough. When I go to reply to a post or refresh the screen the tab with the forum gets dropped. Many times it's recovered minus my reply but other times it doesn't come back at all and I have to open a new tab. I also get loads of 'Page has expired' messages. Clicking the compatibility icon doesn't help. I tried Google Chrome but it seems to have some unidentified issue with this forum, nowhere else. In fact all the problems I listed happen nowhere else but here. So far Opera is the only browser I've found that works here with no issues other than I have to use copy and paste from the keyboard. That's not a problem for me. I was programming computers when a mouse was a furry critter with a cheese fixation and 256k RAM was a big deal.

Howdy...

Bama .. It's good to have the update about you family, and congratulations about "#3" on the way.

Jeff ... I like the lighting on the F3

I still get goofy error messages on the Dell after installing IE8 a Jeff kindly explained how to do. The MR Forum comes through okay on the iMac, however.

Yesterday, I attended a big political shindig including both parties and the independants. Both of KY's US Senators were there and so was the KY governor. All the other big shooters were there along with various candidates. KY has its state elections in odd years uch as 2011.

Going through Mayfield, KY we passed by the Caterpiller / Progress Rail locomotive rebuilding plant. They have a lot of retired locomotives stored as parts sources. They are rebuilding AMtrak F40's for commuter rail lines.

Not much layout work today.

Hope to see Bill T back here soon.

Good Morning!! Just coffee thank you. Went to breakfast at the Nursing Home with MIL. Just got back.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 102.

Funny thing. Something has to have happened because ….well, let me back up. The other day, I started having the "IE close and have to reloaded the page" issue with this site, and this site only. What we are talking about. Now I know it isn’t just me as several of us have had some issues starting at about the same time. Yet some of us do not. Browser? Not sure. I mean some of us having the problems are using different browsers. The problems, or lack of, vary from browser to browser. Still, all who have problems started at roughly the same time. Today, for some reason, I decided to click the compatibility button thing and “poof” the problem is gone. Reason I have not done it for the last couple days is….Never needed to before so why all of a sudden for no apparent reason on a site I have been going to daily, should I now need it unless the forum made some change? But to an older version of whatever they use? Odd. Or, I know I have clicked that button in the past a long time ago when I updated to IE 8, so maybe it had been clicked all along and some update to the program from MS reset it?(auto updates, and I have them load when they come in, so I have no idea what is getting updated) Either way, it had to be something that affects several people and since Jeffrey had two different browsers go haywire, I lean towards something at Kalmbach. But yet Jeffrey also used the compatibility thing and it did not work. (scratches chin) hmmmm. Truthfully I was thinking it was clicked but....maybe it wasn't. Oh well, who knows.  No matter anyhow. I’m good to go now so on to more important things.

The great modeling I’m seeing done flung a craving on me. Maybe this afternoon. I have to meet a “prospective buyer” (yep they all are) at Mm’s today at 1 pm. (1300 for those who prefer that). They’ve been there before by appointment and today is an open house and they called the realtor and want me to be there to answer some questions. Funny part is I know the kid. He’s a farmer and deals with the elevator and Brenda is there every day and I'm there usually at some point in the day too. I know his Dad better, but I still know him. He’s getting married and is looking for a home. Why one this big and far from the farm, (about 5 miles) I don’t know. And I don’t know why he didn’t just stop in at the elevator and ask any questions. I doubt if anything will come of it and really…(sssh)., that wouldn’t bother me too awful much, because I reeeeally hate selling something to someone I know. When something breaks or quits, and it is inevitable on anything from a car to a house to a chainsaw, I feel bad. No, as far as I know nothing is wrong with anything in the house but age, and that leads to the obvious. Shoot, you can't even buy a new car and not have something go wrong. But that still doesn’t keep them from saying, “gee the alternator went out on that $100 car you sold me with a billion and 3 miles on it. Did you know it was bad?” Yep, sure did. That’s why I sold it to you so you could come right back to me when I see you and you can let me know so I can laugh. (mutters… “did I know it was bad”) NO I DIDN’T KNOW or I SURE as heck wouldn’t have sold it to YOU of all people!

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Mornin'!

Mornin' Bill!

Zoe I'll have the Eggs Benedict w/ sour dough toast and lots of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  Please and thanky Ma'am.

I slept in late this morning.  Didn't even roll over in bed until around 10 AM......  Must have needed the sleep.

Today will be more sorting, filing, and throwing out of collected stuff.....  I am making a large dent in what is sitting around waiting to be dealt with over the last decade.  I always tell folks when they visit that housekeeping is not one of my strong points.  When I die I really do not care if someone gets up in the podium when they have THAT time for reminiscing and says, "I knew Ray well, he was such a good housekeeper!" Whistling

Ulrich, the waterfall looks very good.  It will take a while for the caulking to turn clear, but it will.  be patient.

Bama, congrats on the expectation of a larger family!  I will keep all of you in my prayers for good health all the way around.

Barry might like this....  It is all that is left of the PRR Passenger Station in Canandaigua, NY.

Well (deep Subject), I best get to the sorting, filing, and throwing out.

Later!

Good Afternoon!

Don´t know whether it is a good one -   AAARGH!

Poured the WS stuff into the little pond at the end of the waterfall - only to see it disappear into the nirvana of my module. I thought I had sealed it pretty well, but ... Bang Head

Got out all the stuff and sealed it again with that latex caulk. I hope it´ll hold the stuff now.

Not may day today!

Morning All,

Going in to the club around 11 AM today to help with the last day of the open house. I walked thru the train show yesterday and thought to myself that this could be a middle aged man convention. I forgot to mention yesterday we ran a Thomas the train set on the layout for the kids-they loved it. Maybe this is a way to bring another generation into MRR'ing.

Bama- Congrats on the expected addition to your family. Waiting for a child to be born is a exciting time.

Jeff- Thanks again for the info you gave me and I am going to make a set of numbers like you did  for a E7 I had previously painted and had also replaced the number boards. I had not thought of doing that to replace the numbers.

Ulrich- We aren't getting old, we are just mellowing with age. Nice job on the module.

Everyone take care.

 Morning Folks!

Flow, scrambled eggs, bacon, crispy hash browns and a tall glass of V-8 please.

Well, it was my mistake I hit the wrong button last night. I have had no problems with the Fire Fox I am running. But, I don't up grade unless there is a reason.

Work Front Yesterday Had a solid day with $2880.00, not far off on the $3000.00 I was hoping for. I am on paces to do $42,000.00 in sales, that would equal $920.00 in commission. I am not counting my chickens before they are hatched, there is a lot of month to over but I have hope.

Shaun They did remember to cut his pay. Sad Figures, when you want them to remember something they forget. He is having a good month as well, he was in 3rd places in ranking then I passed him. I want him to have a good month, just not quit as good as mine. Smile, Wink & Grin

Finding something 112 years old. I stopped at Wall Greens on the way home to get some antacids. It came to $4.04 and I gave the clerk $4.05. They still use the old style machine that spits out the change. I was stunned when I saw it spit out a 1894 Indian Head Penny! It is in fine conduction and is worth right around $25.00. I am amazed it was still circulation and no one saved it after 112 years.

Guess it was about 4 months ago I got a 1928 Buffalo Nickel from our bank. You will never know if you don't look at your change.

Stupid Wife Fight As most of you know I may lose the house after living here 20 years. Bank Of Stupid will not give me a straight answer about anything so I keep throwing money at them.

Daughter and Husband may break up and our afraid they will not be able to sale there house. So yesterday my daughter told Sue they would rent it to us if they move. My payment is now $977.03 and there is $750.00 so the saving will help. House is much smaller than ours, but I am fine with that. Only places for a layout would be in there small detached 1 car garage.

Wife pointed out that my layout would not fit in there garage. I stated well I could change scale to N or Z scale. Them Off To The Races She Goes! "You would change scales after spending Thousands OF Dollars on all this, what is wrong with you. Why are you never happy with what you have"? I pointed out to her first of all Sharon and Chuck have not moved and we are still in our house. Plus who knows if they will ever break up anyway! I all so said "I might Change Scales not that I was going to".

To me, why start a fight about something that may not even happen. It is not like I said "Honey, I am going to start a new layout today even tho we our broke". Then she would have a reason to start questioning me about where am I getting the funds.

Ulrich If I remember right, the videos I saw talked about using Dap clear silicon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SUgoMJhO1I

Thanks Jeffery for teaching me how to make the link work!

There some other videos that you can find off that video.

Regardless, it looks great. Really wakes up that section of the layout.

See you all after work, wish me luck.

Good morning. It's 78° and partly cloudy. The high will be 101° (feel like 113°). It will be partly cloudy with a 30% chance of an afternoon thunderstorm.

Nothing in particular planned for today. Just any layout project that presents itself. I got most of the work done on the F3A yesterday. I need to dig up some brake cylinders for it and see if I can find a set of horns. I think I did a fair job on the number boards. They're just numbers printed on adhesive labels cut to size.

Good Morning Gang!

Zoe, I´ll have my big Sunday breakfast, please.

I was hoping the caulk had cleared over night, but I guess I need to be patient for a little longer time Sigh

Any ways - here are a few pictures:

Bama - glad to hear the kids are doing fine! Congrats on the coming # 3!

Evening all!  Just a tall glass of milk and a few chocolate chip cookies please.  Today was a good day, w**k went exceptionally well, then I was able to get the cooling fan assembly installed on my Impala so I can drive it in this weather without worrying about the vehicle overheating.  After all that we came home and I spent some quality time with the family and the dog.  Now I think I'm about to head off to bed, nothing happening on the live radio for CSX in the area north of me, so yeah, I think I'm going to bed.

Ulrich, thank you for asking sir, the girls are doing just fine, Heather is 4 now and MIkayla is 22 months, and we have #3 coming along in March, so its all very exciting.

Good Evening!

Well this is my second try after clicking on the backwards compatibility icon so hopefully it works.

My wife and I went out tonight for the anniversary dinner we have been postponing for a month. We went to a restaurant the has a really nice patio on the Assinboine River. It is in an old mansion that for a long time was a Shriners club. Anyway we had a great dinner and now we are both very tired.

We to the LHS today and picked up some N scale sidewalk plus a HO pink Cadillac. The Caddy is in rememberance of Pippa. We called her the Princess and always thought that she would likely pick a pink Cadillac if she could have actually made such a choice. She sure was a beautiful Westie and and do miss her.

I'm not having any problems using IE9 on this site other than posting.

Well it late, so I'll say goodnight and hope everyone is well

Evenin'

Hi Bill!

Janie, just a decaf for me this evening.

How come, washing your hands so you can do a blood sugar test alwas makes your nose itch???

Uh, Oh!  Did I hear something about Dorian Grey????  112 years old?  Come on Ken tell us...  Inquiring minds want to know...Big Smile

I set the almost completed (yep keep finding more things to add...) Engine House on its spot on the layout for a few photos this evening.  It is getting there, little by little.....

Photos are a great way to see things you can't otherwise.  For instance the main doors look bare...  Something missing.  Hmmmmm.  Ah, no way to lock the doors closed on them, so I have fabricated some hinges (just the metal part you would normally see with the doors open and a couple locking pins for each side.  (photos later if I like them).

Tonight for the first time in a few months i crawled under the layout to hook up some wiring for the lights in the Engine House.  Amazing what a difference 15lbs. makes when wiggling around under there! Smile, Wink & Grin  Need to lose about 25 more!

I see Ulrich has been doing his moderator w*rk and has now locked a thread.  It was really warped to begin with.  Good call!

This is only 95 years old (I think they got color right on the rails when they were hand painted...:

Night night!

We'll get there sooner or later!
