JimCG ... The lake is about normal. Weather has been dry lately, and it may get lower. I notice, it's getting very dry between here and Alabama.
I completed my track for the union station. Hurray!... Now I need to install track for my street car line going to Union Station. The Walthers Union Station building is the one I put together, and it is based on the CB&Q station in Omaha.

Janie I'll have a cheeseburger, couple ears of the fresh picked sweet corn (been good this year), a tall glass of regular iced tea, and a slice of the blueberry pir with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to finh out the meal. thanky very much Ma'am.
So far I have gotten about half the stuff I need to get done finished today.... Going to be a long night. Would be almost up to par, but a old friend from Scouts stopped by to tell me what he has been doing this summer. This gentleman is in his mid 70's, BTW..... This guy and his son just got home a week and a half ago from hiking Mt. Marcy. Tallest peak in New York State found in the high peaks area of the Adirondacks. They spent 3 days on the trail carrying all their gear and food with them. Only real difficulty he had was on the way up when one of the trail poles he was using slipped and he and his 40lb. pack went down onto the rock he was hiking at the time. This was just before the summit (5,344'). His son had walked on ahead with his 60lb. pack to the summit and was then coming back to help his dad. He picked himself up a bit and realized that his face was covered in blood. He was reaching for his first aid kit when his son arrived back where he was, bandaged the head and kept going.... He still has a sizable lump just above his right eye and a very black eye as well. I give him a lot of credit! He said if he was going to do the mountain, he figured he wanted to do it now rather than wait another 10 years......
Jim, yes the nest was in the stand which is made of treated wood...... Gone now!

Will not be taking a paid for Vacation on unemployment! Well, it does look like I will get unemployment but it is based on what you made in certain quarters. Will the time frame did not fall well for me. My total benefits will only be $178.00 a week. Last time around it was $428.00 a week. Well, the bright side is I won't sit on my butt and have got cracking.
Sent out 10 resumes today and have 3 interviews set up for next week. One I know I don't want. I while the person that called me never told me this but it is selling insurances. Cost of getting a license is $400.00 more than I have. I then did a keyword search using the company's name and found a lot of scam alerts.
Job I hope to get is for a services writer for a dealership. Most services writers make mid 30's to mid 40's. That I could live on, hope it is for the Dodger dealership I sent a resume too. Only draw back will be the drive, 43 miles each way.
Telemarketing Job. Well the bright side is it is in ILL. and only 8 miles from my house Person I spoke to said his top sellers are making $130,000 plus a year. They all so have running a lot of ads as well. So I am not holding my breath on making that kind of money. But, you never know and it would be more than I will be getting from unemployment.
Made contact with a old manger that worked for me as well. I sent a resume to a older ad. Brian called me, he had filled the job. (would not want to work for someone that worked for me) but we talked about old times "like him wrecking 2 cars on his first day". He gave me some leads and ideas and said I could use him has references. He currently has my old job as a area supervisor for Midas. Small world.
Got the box mailed today Jeffery. I know I am slow, but I did get it done. You should have it by Monday.

Spent my welding shop and lunch/advisory working on a piece of stainless steel. My teacher told me that he needed it cut down, edges smoothed and corners rounded. For what, I don't know. All I was told was that it was a government job (Most likely a friend of his)

Curt- Good luck, I've started using play sand dried out good as ballast. Cheaper and it works just as good.
So, killer question, where are we moving/parking the diner next month?

At home getting ready to go to Lowe's to pick up mortar and grout. MOH does have to work this weekend so we will most likely work on the back splash Monday, that means I can work on ballasting Sat & Sun.
Sue- The billboard came out of a insert in the 2011 Walther's catalog ( I'm almost positive) It says WELCOME ABOARD the BROADWAY LIMITED leader of the fleet. It was printed on heay paper. The one with the picture of OH is the RR billboard for Lee's RR.
Jeff- That is a neat addition to your layout. You have done a great job.
Paul- Best wishes for you and your family dealing with the fires again.

Jeff, thanks for posting the photo of your feed mill/depot. With that dust collector, you could almost make it a combination depot (with part of building leased to a local feed dealer)/general store thingee. Have fun with whatever you turn it into. (Like your missing board on the one side there! )
Bama, it's good that your Dad was pretty handy with fixing mowers/motors. Sometimes when you can get an older mower/powered implement fixed correctly, they can outlast couple/three of the newer ones. Nothing like a well-made mower!
Ray, good that you caught the carpenter ants (hopefully) before they did any big damage. Maybe they were willing to come onto the deck for the roll-around stand's wood? Or was it treated wood on that, too? But as you said, problem should be gone now.
Paul, sorry to hear the fires are back again. Guess better add a specific "RAIN!" for your area to the list... I'm sure with the drought and your heat you've been having (all?) this summer, you and Mary Ann are very tired of the 'usual' weather there.
Garry, hope your newfound MRR time is productive for you, and that you even have a little left after the tracklaying for your town/station area. How's your lake level been lately?

Ulrich, as for evening out the weather, I think that's an ongoing struggle (and we aren't getting any closer that I can tell...). On your station module, you could use shallow-depth town buildings and structures behind the tracks, or even get a backdrop that has the buildings on it, with a shallow station structure behind the tracks (and backdrop behind that). Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
Galaxy - man, of all the bad timing for the nasties to come visiting you! Hopefully you can hold things together (no pun intended) until after the furnace installer gets 'er done.
I've not been particularly busy today (except for some w**k-related annoyances, hate those on my - alleged - day off). Got a very old book from my friend Linda (in Memphis) yesterday. It's a Toy Trains/Greenberg one that the library was disposing of, so she sent it to me. It's for O-scale "Hi-Rail" (kinda between toy trains and fully realistic 2-rail O scale), but there are a few ideas and things from it that I can adapt and use.
Decided to pass on Kalmbach's wonderful offer. They wanted me to renew several months early for a free Info Station PDF (basic DCC one). But I already have the vol. 2 PDF for that, plus the MR/Lionel Strang basic DCC book, and I've been debating about just reading my MR at the library. Don't know for sure if they still are doing it, but they used to have an annual book/magazine sale of older books and mags, and I had previously picked up a whole year's worth of MR issues at a really good price. They don't appear to have raised their prices, at least (wise choice on their part)...
Well (level still dropping some), I'll be moseying on home for now. Hope to see you all tomorrow. Prayers will continue, including for improved health, better redistribution of the moisture, and for good night's rest for all.

Where shall we go in September. How about Illinois? Chicago has long been the rail hub of the nation, and it has it Museum of Science and Industry with the Pioneer Zephyr and its $3 million dollar layout. The Illinois Railway Museum has an amazing display of railroad equipment, and the Museum in Montecello has some great stuff too. ... More importantly, several diners live there.
Der John... glad you are here too. That Berkshire photo reminds me of the guy sleeping in the corner booth. Wonder why.

Well (getting lower, starting to worry), I've spent all the time in here that I can today, gotta get running now, have to go and get some stuff out of our storage building for the wife (she's into consignment sales and is going to be selling some of the girl's clothes), then I'll be off to help a coworker change a timing belt on his Toyota Rav 4 (sounds like fun don't it?).

I don't think that New England would be all that good of a place to park the diner for next month, kinda wet, soggy and floody over yonder way right now. Perhaps we could park down on the sugar white sands of the Gulf Coast (emerald green water, sugar white sand, and in September, its quite nice). Been thinking about how to finish off the station module. I want to give it some urban flavor, but there is not much room for that on a 6" deep module. Right now I am lacking the right kind of inspiration. I´ll make a drawing and post it here to capture your comments.

Ray - seems that allergies are the curse of the 21st century. Young folks are so much more subject to allergies than our generation. I´s heartbreaking to see some of the little ones having to suffer so much due to allergies. We have our fair share with our son, who is also suffering from a multitude of allergies - the classic hay fever being the mildest one of them.
Good to see that Bill was in to start the day for us!

Paul - As hurricane season started early this year, there is a good chance that it´ll cool down soon. We need to commission someone to do a rain dance (or better, I try to send some of ours to you). It´s a crazy world we live in - we had about the worst summer in decades - too cold, too wet, and you guys suffer from an extended heatwave.

Good morning all. Just stopping by. I think I'll have a biscuit and gravy with a side of bacon, two scrambled eggs with cheese and an order of hash browns. Think I'll also have a tall cold glass of milk. Going to go and get some pictures taken today of the car from its wreck (news paper van backed into car while it was parked at w**k) so that their insurance can get me a check cut for repairs (which I will probably do myself as the only "real" damage is the mounting brackets for the right headlight are broken).

Good morning. It's 74° and sunny. The high today will be 99° (why don't I believe that?) and it will be mostly sunny and hot (now that I believe). I'm thinking it will be more like 102° today.Today I'll continue work on the feed mill. There's still some paint trim work to done and I want to put a few 'patched' places on the roof and 'replace' a couple of planks in the loading/unloading dock. It might be interesting to 'replace' a board of two in the lap siding with a different color.

Jim, I have seen buildings without gutters that are streaked and stained just like your log camp buildings. Larry's are painted. I will try to get some photos this weekend. Larry wants to get the staging yard back in function, so he is pushing me that direction.

Weather Well looks like we our coming under the gun again. Today's high 97, Thursday 101 and Friday 100. Yesterday weather forecast said rain for today. Today's forecast says no rain. This is the worst my yard has ever looked as far as being brown.

Athearn F7 B Decoder is in, but having a problem with it. It jumps 1/2 inch in both directions when I first give it power, stops then moves as I turn the power up. Other wise it seems fine. I have posted on the main page about the problem and only have had one answer so far.
Show me something has been shut down and a new one started. I just hope the replacement does as well.

What am I gonna do today? Who knows. Buddy of mine wants me to replace an injector on a friend of ours’s wife’s car. This friend is the one who died suddenly earlier in the year. The wife, is..., well...., been quite removed so to speak. Unless she needs something done and you are....available. And I don't mean "wink, wink, nudge, nudge available". I mean, "wrench, hammer, ladder, handy" available.
Other'nat, I have no idea what I will get involved in other than my usual chores.

Jim I guess I have been running a spa for the cows. They do enjoy the mud bath and the water. It's a good thing because that's about all that is left of the pond.
We're back to having fires. One started today north west of our sons ranch near Possum Kingdom Lake. At last report there were 7500 acres burning. This is in the same area that had 125000 acres burned up in April. So far 25 homes have been destroyed and another 125 in danger of being burned. That was as of 9:30pm. They will hit the fire at daybreak since it's too dangerous to fight it at night.
Mary Ann and I are really tired of the heat and dryness. I'll be happy to see it end.
Well I'm going to head for bed.

Tonight I decided to clean off the deck on the front entrance to the house. Needed to move a very old and crumbling plastic planter.... Bought it a Mall Wart, and I haven't even been in one in about 15 years! A few years back I put it on a home made roll around stand I built. Tonight I moved the planter off the stand and all of sudden there is a mess of carpenter ants running all over the place.... The stand was made of treated wood. Thought they didn't like the stuff. Anyway, I set the planter down and grabbed a nearby can of wasp spray and gave the stand a good dousing... Got the queen! Problem over. Both the planter and the cart will be disposed of soon.
Looks like I will have about 20 people here on Saturday. Exchanged a few emails with one my nephew's wife tonight. They have two little girls, the oldest is severely allergic to eggs and peanuts! She has had several episodes of anaphylactic shock and has almost died a couple of times. If someone touches an egg and then touches her she has a reaction.... They want to come but needed to know what will be served. I told them I was going to make my usual potato salad, but without eggs this time... Everything else should be OK, and her Mom will bring separate food as the little girl is also allergic to Gluten and some other things. Poor kid!
There will be some time spent in the train room tomorrow as cleaning and testing it out is on the agenda.... Along with a very long list of other things.
