Good Morning Gang!

Hi, Bill!

This will be day # 2 at the STALAG - maybe I get to see Colonel Klink Smile, Wink & Grin

Aside from this, it´ll be a nice day, with a chance of at least some sunshine during the day.

Have a good one!

Fruit smoothie, please.

***Tom, both puppies (my wife has since aquired a male puppy, too) are doing well. This is the little males first night out. We saw a Great Horned owl fly over at dusk and we are having second thoughts. As for our old male, my wife is doing everything she can to give him a chance at recovery. I do not hold out much hope, but I'll wait for my wife to tell me when she's exhausted every avenue. BTW, I like your MRRing pics.

Good night all. And thanks for the kind words.

Evening Gang: It's late as usual and still a bit warm. We are back in the 100s again and the weather garu's say it will be that way for this week at least. I must say that I'm almost getting used to it.

Rob I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I hope that he gets better.

Nothing to report on the MRR front. We spent the day with our primary care doc and running erands. The cows are holding up as long as I put out that very expensive hay. I'd have about $37,000 if I sold it but then what would I feed the cattle? Racoons got into a bag of range cubes and made a mess. A bag of them runs about $7.80 so I hope that they will stop doing that.

Our sons place is being destroyed by feral hogs. Ons of his hunters has 1900 pictures of them taken last month by an automatic camera. The hay field looks like it was hit by a cluster bomb. The hunters are shooting them and we are going to go out and do the same. I have a friend of mine that I'm going to call and see if he wants to have a go at them. He'll take the meet to folks that need it. That's better then wasting it.

Well It's after 11pm so I'll say Good Night.

 Evening Dinners

I will about bet, I will be buying after this post.

Flo, Beer and a Big Boy Sub, and 2 tenders of fries please.

Work Front Well, I would have rather been at the Zoo with Ulrich and I will leave it at that!

Rob, please read! Tiffany, our American Eskimo hips where giving out last year. She would fall down and not be able to get up with out being picked up. We where thinking about having her put down, I did not want her to suffer. She was 15 years old at the time.

Then we started giving her Purina 1 Senior Formula with Glucosmine Omega 6. It has seemed to have saved 5 years off of her life. To night she was running around like a puppy when I got home! She will be 17 years old on Dec 20th of this year. She has not fell down for at leas 8 months, or if she has she has gotten up under her own power. While I know any day I might lose her, she is happy and still some what lively, it has been a God Send!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We all so give it to the Wolfhound, she is old at 8 years for a Wolfhound. While Shaddy never did slow down, she shows no sign of her age except her beard is white.

Todd, you know you want too watch! Big Smile

http://www.cbs.com/primetime/ncis_los_angeles/video/?pid=j_mgqDfercWEl1paK_liPe1KPjacGkHM&vs=Full%20Episodes&play=true

Kensie (NCIS LA) is way hotter than Ziva! Now in a knock down drag out fight, I would put my money on Ziva!

Abby? My heart be still. Smile, Wink & Grin When I saw that Tat on her back, I was in love. Plus she drives a nasty 32 Street Rod. Think it was shown in the 3rd year when she was trying to save a polices dog from being put down for killing it's owner.

Did you know that MC Gee (my mother maiden) and Abby was a couple for a short time in I think the second year? Yep, MC Gee slept in Abby's coffin!

Another good reason to watch NCIS LA? Main characters drive a Hemi Challenger. Speaking of Hemi Challengers, what did think of Gibb's 1970?

http://www.cbs.com/primetime/ncis_los_angeles/video/?pid=j_mgqDfercWEl1paK_liPe1KPjacGkHM&vs=Full%20Episodes&play=true

So Todd, give it a watch, you know you want to! LaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

Hee, hee, hee. take a bite of the apple.

Well, time to watch NCIS. Yes

Good evening all.  Just stopping in for a hot fudge sundae and a glass of sweet tea.  Been mowing the yard all day today, and ended up breaking the deck belt (Doh!), so I guess tomorrow I will be putting a new deck belt on (had a spare already) and finishing cutting the yard.  AFTER that I WILL get the SD40-2 out and play with it a little.  I'll have to remember to post pictures as I go.  I'm also going to probably start playing with some of my older cars, seeing if I can bring them up to standards of today (such as removing high brake wheels, roofwalks, etc).

Garry: Glad you're enjoying your time with the family, great catch for the girls!

Ulrich: Congrats on 4000, may you get 4000 more!

Rob: I feel for you and your four legged friend, its always hard when one of them is in poor health, they really do become one of the family.

Well (starting to empty, still realllly deep), I think I'm going to go check out a few of the online sites to look for some cars to buy with my MRR budget.....

Evenin' again...

Janie, I need a refill on the decaf if you please.

Garry, don't you just love the look on the faces when they catch THAT big fish!!!  my son has taken his 4 year old daughter out fishing several times.  A couple weeks ago she landed a couple lb. Bass (I believe).  She was very, very excited, particularly as her father didn't even get a nibble!

I have the wires needed for the office area all neatly arranged and clipped to the baseboard.  Finished installing the coax cable and cable clamped it to the joists down cellar.  Also found a piece of the old furniture that was the right size to put the desktop computer on the floor under the main desk.  I will have a good amount of space I can use for something else with THAT not on top of the desk.  Still have a lot of items to move and set up, but it is progressing.

Just found out the NMRA Division will be able to use a museum withing our division for our fall meet on October 22.  Program will focused on the Lehigh Valley RR.

Rob, I feel sad for both the old dog, and you folks.  It is hard to see a loving friend be in pain.  Hope he can get well enough to enjoy a bit more life.  Just know I am thinking of you folks!

[edit]  I was going to tell you that Rochester,NY has had 4.25" of rain so far this month.  Most of it in on Saturday and Sunday.....  That is more than they usually get in the whole month.  Geneva got (and is still getting) some heavy rain  today to the tune of .95 inch.

Hope all of you have a restful night!

Night at the Diner 8/15/2011
Posted by cats think well of me on Monday, August 15, 2011 9:28 PM

I'll take spicy rice balls and a tall glass of coconut milk please!

Week one at my new job down and I notice I am packing more everyday which feels good. I also helped a friend get a job there.

I just ordered a Westside brass N&W CH caboose. The paint and lettering are good but I noticed some missing details on the end railings. I emailed Atlas to see if end railing assemblies from their Trainman caboose can be purchased separately. Also the trucks needs to be replaced on the model as well, as they have roller bearings, I'm thinking the trucks from the same Trainman caboose will work. If Atlas won't send separate parts, I'll just buy one to salvage for parts. I'm looking forward to it all though as it should be a fun evening making an old model even better.

Duke ... Good to see you in the diner.

Rob .. It's not clear who is more sore; you or the dog. Anyhow. sorry to hear about it.

Ulrich ... 4000 is the locomotive number for Burlington's "Aeolus". Congrats.

Grandughters from Cincinnati are still here, and caught this fish today. I wonder if the fish is embarressed to be caught with an 18" child's fishing pole with plastic Mickey Mouse reel.

Cheers everybody.

Evening All,

The heat index today was 105 F again. Temp now is around 89 F. Been pretty steady at work today mainly because of the heat...big surprise there. I go in later tomorrow so I can sleep in a little which will be nice since I have not slept well the last 2 days.

Rob- Sorry about your dog. I went with my daughter a couple of months ago when she had to put her dog down, it was pretty bad and I would not wish it on anybody.

Duke- Thanks for the info. I'm not sure I am going to Roanoke yet, but if I do I will definitely go to the museum.

Barry- Congrats on your new acquisitions. It sounds like you did very well for yourself.

Todd- When I was in the Navy we called it NIS not NCIS.

Lee- I had one of those Dow cars with my original train set as a kid. In fact I think I have it packed away in my closet.

Ulrich- Congrats on 4000.

Everyone have a good night.

Evening all from HOT SunnyCal:  Was supposed to be in the high 80's today, and came in at 98.  Someone's not paying ATTENTION out there, LOL!

Went to Kaiser today to get some more blood work done--why do the people in the Lab always look so doggone GLEEFUL when I come in, anyway?   Have to have it done once a month to see how the old kidneys are doing.  And since I was in Roseville, I trotted over to Railroad Hobbies to look for that 2-stall engine house I need.  Found one, by golly--a Faller kit that looks a little Austrian, but I got it home and did some re-painting before I put it together, and I think it'll pass.  It's stone, but stone buildings are pretty common out here in the Gold Country of California, so it kinda/sorta fits in.   Anyway, I think it looks kind of neat in my New and Improved engine terminal.

I'll do some weathering on it later on--still didn't get the rails painted today.  Oh well--Indifferent.  Also found a Walthers Rio Grande 10-6 sleeper for my "Prospector".  I don't know if Rio Grande ever HAD any 10-6's, but it's a nifty looking car, anyway.   And Gloriosky, it had all the little wire grabs PRE-INSTALLED!!  Yay!!   Gave it a test run, and it runs great right out of the box.  First Walthers car I've ever had that did THAT without adjustments.

Well, that's my progress report for today.

Curt:  Ah yes--Ziva.  Stick out tongue You are a man of exquisite tastes, my friend--I knew that, anyway.  I love that whole cast.  McGeek sure lost a lot of weight this year, though.  Almost didn't recognize him.  I love the fact that he's actually ALLOWED to 'one-up' Tony on occasion.  Love the way those two play off of each other.   Oh, BTW, the gal that played Kate has a new series on TNT--"Rizzoli and Isles."  It's pretty cool.  So is she.

Rob:  I'm so sorry to hear about the dog--I know you just lost your female recently.  I hope he can recover--they're such a beautiful breed.  Speaking of--how's the new one coming along?  That was a handsome photo you took of her(?).   Prayers and best wishes.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

I was seriously tired earlier. After all that work this morning putting the pipes together then helping cover the ditch we put them in I was pretty much worn out. The ditch went around the east end of my parents house, a little over over seventy feet. That was too much like work. I napped for a couple of hours and feel better now though still a little tired. I'm not as healthy as I was a few years ago. I put a couple of items in the freezer earlier to see if it would help break some super glue loose. Worked like a charm.

I hope your dog is all right Rob. My sister had to put down a couple of Australian Shepard's after they got to the point they couldn't even stand. It hurt just to watch them try to get up.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I'll have a hamburger and a couple ears of fresh local sweet corn and a cup of decaf tonight.  I'll be relaxing in the back booth.

My son came over to help me move the big laser printer to the new furniture on his way to work today.  He told me that his wife's uncle almost ended up in the hospital.  A few weeks back when I was over for the family gathering on Sunday.  He didn't feel good right before dinner.  His sister (DIL's mother)  asked if I had my glucose monitor with me.  I didn't.  She was wondering what his blood sugar was doing as she, and her Mother are (were) diabetics (she is a nurse as well).  Evidently last week the uncle was having more spells of not feeling good, so he went to his doctor (whom he hadn't seen in many years).  They decided to do a complete blood workup on him and the Lab called the doc and said...  "This guy may need to go directly to the hospital!"  His blood sugar was over 600!  They got it back down a bit and now have him on some heavy duty medication for it.  Currently staying around 200.....

Galaxy and tcwright, IIRC 414 goes from Corning to Watkins?  I have driven it many times.  Always fun pulling a 2 ton trailer behind the pickup climbing the hill out of Watkins Glen.....Surprise  Especially on snow covered roads in Winter.......  Galaxy, I would think you would get off 17 in Waverly and go through VanEtten to Watkins Glen.  THAT is the way we always came home to Canandaigua when We lived in Waverly.  Much shorter I would think....????

Felt nice today to not have the air conditioners running for a change.  High was all of 73°F (currently 67°F).  I'm still figuring out how I want to configure the w*rkspace in the office...  I keep thinking of better ways to arrange the place.  I went out and bought a new coaxial cable to hook up the cable modem.  The cable I had might have w*rked, but when they drilled the hole in the floor to install it, it was exactly the size of the cable so the connector won't go down through the hole.  I can buy the new cable cheaper than the connector and the 2 tools I need to repair the end of the cable.....  besides I know this solution will w*rk!  It does.....Wink

Ulrich, congrats on 4000 posts!

Catch you all later!

Galaxy - Thanks. I wasn't quite sure what you were referring to in your original post, but now i see what you mean. When we take our annual wine run to Seneca Lake, I take I86 out of Erie and get off at what I think is Exit 46 and then north on 414 to 14 in Watkins Glen. I thought about trying 226 last year, but I'm a creature of habit and 414 is a pretty nice road and usually with little traffic. I also try to schedule our little jaunt in the middle of the week and in late September or October, so we haven't had any problems with racing events. Thanks again. Tom

Mind you, I have never been on 226 either, but would be willing to give it a try. The reason we didn't is that it would add a lot of time to our trip so we decided to go through Watkins Glen anyway and risk it. the traffic in W G was really no worse than any other time, but I'll bet on Sunday {even with the rain} it was packed! We just missed it by being up there on Saturday!

CURT    The museum in Roanoke is worth the trip and the locomotives and rolling stock are all outside.   Also,if you have the chance while there,go to the Winston O Link museum just up the road.   Well worth it because there are a lot of his pics you don’t see anywhere else.   My son in law and granddaughters took me to both of them one year while we were there visiting.  You will see a lot of rail traffic because the N & S hump yard and shops are right there.  The shops are on the East side of 220/85 and you can see some of them from one of the side streets.

Best to all on sick call and those recovering AngelAngelAngel

Coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

Yesterday evening I had to carry our old male Great Pyrenees (150lbs worth) out of the muddy, steep, almost 15' ravine out back. His hips wouldn't work and he could barely move. My wife is treating him today, but we're not optimistic. Tweaked my back between shoulder blades and strained a couple muscles elsewhere, so taking it easy today. Feel like I've been in a car wreck.

Hope y'all are doing well.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

I'll have what Jeff's having please. Hold the Tabasco thank you.

(ears perk up) WHAT? Somebody say Ziva?Big Smile Umm, Embarrassedoh, no reason. Ok I'll admit maaaaybe wouldn't be quite so drawn to the show if she weren't on it. I seem to not be as interested when Kate is on. Probably just a qwinky-dink. Whistling. I think the cast is just perfect and would be afraid it would lose something if any were to leave. Tony is hilarious, Abby is also. McGee makes the perfect....whatever he is. Nerd? No. Geek? No. Don't know. Just like his character. And I will say I have never been a Mark Harmon fan until this show. The actors do a fantastic job of bringing their characters life and I don't seem to notice or care at some of the far fetched things that they get involved with. THAT (besides my little pooky Ziva) is probably the biggest reason I enjoy the show.

Never dealt with the Navy, but I have had occasion to work with the Army C.I.D..  No murder, just uh, er, a repo job so to speak. We'll just say the Army frowns on John Q Public being in possesion of a fully functional...(looks around)... M60A3. There was no levity involved then. Nor did they look even reeeeeMOTE-ly like Ziva. One looked like Mulder from X-Files and the other like a cross between Hank Williams JR and Ted Nugent. Hmm I always assumed it was CID. NCOIC said they were. No, I didn't see their badges. They didn't offer, I didn't ask. We got along fabulously. When they left they made the comment, If we are lucky, we'll never see them again. I haven't. Just lucky I guess.

Yes, there is a railroad in Ivory Coast, connecting Burkina Faso with the port town of Abidjan. The road is called SITARAIL.

Every African National I have met over the years has had an ease and grace about them that is very warm and friendly.

Ray - I fully agree to your above statement. I have been to some African countries and I found the people open-minded, friendly, with a natural happiness despite the not so good living conditions. I wish the Germans had just a touch of that attitude, but I think we are just the opposite!

I was helping my father put some cold roll pipe together this morning. Seemed no matter how tight the clamps were the joints always leaked. I got some stick epoxy made for plumbing and put that on the plastic joiners then pushed them into the pipes and clamped them. Turned the water on and what do you know. No leaks. While we were working we saw a coyote crossing the upper part of the front yard. Not a rare sight here, you usually just don't see them crossing open areas that much.

Last night when I was putting Kadee's on the Mantua cars I'd put shelf couplers on the Diamond Chemicals tank car. I checked their height against the Kadee coupler height gauge without really thinking about it. Well, the couplers couplers and that shelf coupler didn't want to turn loose from the #5 on the gauge. I had to pick them both up and rotate the gauge a bit to get them apart. Just for the fun of it I put a pair on the C&O gondola too. Give my rivet counting neighbor something to complain about. The Kadee shelf couplers work very well and do exactly what the real ones do. They keep the cars coupled even if they derail and it doesn't matter if they're pushed together or pulled tight. I tried the McHenry shelf couplers and wasn't happy with them at all. They look good but at the end of the day they work just like regular couplers. The shelfs don't engage each other unless they're pushed together and then only just. More on the Bachmann 80's era F7A I tested last night. I decided to gut the gear box and pull the wires and make it into a dummy. It looks nice at the rear of my line of F3's and F7's. A real splash of color having that Santa Fe war bonnet back there.

Mornin'.....  (Probably won't be by the time I post this........)

Zoe, I'll have what Galaxy ordered...  What?  I know Bill is broke, but I'm hungry.  Put it on Galaxies tab!

Been down to the SS office...  Managed to get an appointment for later this month.  I don't mind going down there as most of the employees are former students of mine and I get treat with respect and a big grin! Smile, Wink & Grin

Ken and Todd, what is NCIS?  Some kind of disease?  I can't even pronounce it.  Makes me glad I don't turn on the idiot box often here.  Only TV I ever see is out at my son's house.  THAT usually consists of Spong Bob Weird Pants, or iCrazy Carly on Skipaloadian.  Once in a while I have to watch stuff like America's Funniest and most offensive Home Videos to see who gets kicked in a sensitive place this week..... Oh, and the pawn shop ripoff show.......

Ulrich?  Dispatched to the Ivory Coast?  Way too hot there for me!  I did enjoy meeting and talking with the young lady with my sister as it once again reinforced my love of African Culture.  Every African National I have met over the years has had an ease and grace about them that is very warm and friendly.  At lunch on Saturday I was chatting with Awa and told her about a short African unit I used to teach as part of the World Music requirement in NYS Music classes.  I started to tap out some African Polyrhythms on the table.  Her eyes got very wide and the grin would melt icebergs.  She was also very interested in the history and geology of the Finger Lakes area and we spent quite a bit of time showing her maps and telling how the Finger Lakes were formed and about the Native Cultures from this area.  She is, as I said before, a lovely lady.  My sister is enjoying her staying at her rooming house very much!

Sue....  I was seeing THAT you were a Lady of few words, and Bill is always THAT way.  I thought you might be related. Whistling  Glad to see you back!  (Helps keep Barry and a couple others in line.....)

BTW, when you are going through Waverly, NY on Rt. 17/I 86, you are in Pennsylvania.  It is the only NYS highway that is actually in PA.  Otherwise they would have had to tear down most of the Village of Waverly (which wouldn't have been a bad idea really....Whistling Whistling Whistling)

Manét is telling me it is time for me to get his lunch....  best be moving.
