 Work Front I usually do not go on line at the work. They are fine with it me doing so, but the work computer is sooo slooow it drives me nuts.

 Work was somewhat of disappointment today, not that it was a bad day. By 1:00 PM, I had $1680.00 in sales, 2K should be a breeze, well so I thought. Whistling That is where the needle stuck and what i closed with. 

 Jeffery You have a PM. I should be shipping this coming Wednesday or Thursday. Looking forward to the PA's and the 2-10-2. I PM Brandon (Darth Santa Fe) tonight to get his in sights on the motor and what is available. Do you think it would make a good DCC engine as it sits?

 On the PA's, looking at my PK1's Erie Built's look like about the same wheel base. Hum, could I be so lucky.

Today I've been insanely busy painting locos then applying the decals afterward. I'm still working on the H24-66 at this time. I've filed the ends of the front and rear platforms smooth and I'll be applying L&S logo there since the cab sides are already taken up by the MGRy logo. The front and rear pilot foot plates have been removed.

Good evening .... 

Regarding, the GE 44T and the GE 45T, I use one on my layout to solve a problem. The shoe and boot factory at the end of my branch line has short tracks due to clearance. "Yours Truly" did not plan ahead here very well.

In the left of the photo, there is only enough room for one 40' box car and one GE 44T between switch points and the end of the track. An SW7 is too long. 

Fortunately, the old CB&Q had a small number of 44T's, and so I purchased a Bachmann model and repainted it. CB&Q did use its 44T's in branch line service. 

The end of the branch line is called "Hinterland", and it has a short run around track as well as the industrial siding. 

JimCG ... Great to see you. Progress on my Union Station and my big city has been delayed for non-model-railroad stuff. I hope to do some work in the next few days. Thanks for the update on your model railroading and the work situation. Looks like progress on both and that's good. 

Curt .. Your layout looks great.

Jeff ... you paint shop did very well. The paint crew is really productive doing all that work so quickly.

Jeff- I really like the sharp contrast between the white and black especially on the F7. I also like the Zebra paint scheme on CN loco's. I believe Santa Fe used it also but I'm not sure about that.

Santa Fe started using the zebra stripe scheme shortly after WWII to increase grade crossing visibility.

ROFL! 

Actually the 44 Tonner was a very different locomotive from the 45 Tonners.  The later 45 tonners had an internal chain drive linking the axles rather than the side rods...  It is an easy way to tell them apart though.  The reason GE made a 44 tonner at all was it allowed railroads to get around the Union Contract calling for both an engineer and a fireman in any locomotive heavier than 90,000 lbs.  # 1654 was one of the US Army 45 Tonners that was upgraded to twin 450 HP Cummins Prime Movers.  She is our main year around loco at the museum. 

Barry THAT is also (I think) known as a 25 tonner???

A special thanks to Jeff and Bill for helping me with my photo posting.  I intended to fix it before I left for my seminar, but ran out of time.  I knew something was missing, but couldn't remember what.  Larry switched monitors with me.  I had a cheat sheet stuck on the monitor.  Gone.

Yes, Tom, it is the northwest between the town of Gate and Brooklyn log camp.

Jim,  The MDC two-truck shay has a NWSL regearing kit, which allows it to push 7 loaded cars up a 6% incline.  It is our toughest hill climber.  Everything else is wimpy by comparison.

I need to get working on the log camp.  Larry did some bunkhouses and a kitchen.  This weekend Larry is working on the staging.  It has been pinned down temporarily.  I plan to work on the backdrop buildings in that area.  Four hands make track placement easier.

Garry,  I have not found my way back to the Beer Barn.  My navigating skills are rusty.

Flo I would like a slice of that birthday cake Cake (no calories) and a glass of milk please.

Ran some trains today and took some photos. Our side trip to Roanoke is on so I told MOH about the train museum and she is thrilledWhistling. Well I am anyway. Probably have to go grocery shopping tomorrow then go to  the club for awhile. I used lacquer thinner with Q-tips on the wheels of my J1 today and it seems to run smoother now. I will run it at the club and see how it goes. No word today from NJ International.

An F7, an SD45 and a Trainmaster H24-66 have been through the shop. The F7 and SD45 are for freight service while the H24-66 will be used as motive power for Ezra's Midland Gulf tourist train.

***Jim, the hospital on my wife's layout is the old "IRS On Fire" kit. Is that the one you're refering to? As for the farm, I have done little as of late. Still recovering from carrying Unaka out of that ravine. With the sarcoidosis, it just takes me a long time to recover/heal from doing much of anything. The treatments and hot weather doesn't help any either. It is what it is.

Need to go work on the tractor and figure out where the latest hydrolic/gear leak(s) is coming from. Oh joy!

Ken works Friday-Tuesday with Wed/Thurs being his "weekend"  Hopefully his lack of opportunity to get on-line at work is an indication of a good day in the mattress store?

Either THAT or he has been having a nice nap today....Whistling  I hope for Simon's Idea...

Jim.....  'Taint no 44 Tonner in any of the photos I put up....  The museum ain't got no 44 Tonners...  We got two 45 Tonners, two 80 Tonners, and a 110 Tonner, but not even one 44 Tonner........ Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh  The night time photo is of a US Army 80 tonner # 1654, the bright and shiny one is a 45 Tonner from Rochester Gas and Electric in Rochester, NY that we have been restoring.

I took a couple large bags of broccoli, peppers, and cucumbers down to the community lunch program today....  They will probably be using them on Monday for the lunch they serve.  Good feeling to know it will help out the "least of my people".

Just finished making a large potato salad to take to the pig roast at the museum tomorrow.  Bet there will be some more riding the trains up and down the track.....  I sure hope!

Rob (I didn't see your post in the 3-4 pages I quick-skimmed), I see where Woodland Scenics is going to make a kit version of the one you made into the hospital on your wife's layout. I may get that in a kit form (less $$$) for my city hall (and maybe the jail too) for another town, since I have the smaller one that I'd posted in here several weeks back. How's the farm and tree repair been coming along for you?

Ray, I like that evening photo you posted of the GE 44-tonner from the RR museum.Bow I like the cute li'l thing!

I've been getting some forwards and the occasional email from Johnboy, so maybe he is busy with preparing for the Diner's arrival in his area.

Garry, have I missed any progress pics of Union Station and your city area? (Hope not!) I'd love to see how that's coming along.

As for my MRR'ing, I'm (re-)starting on how to wire my layout setup now so that I can later switch over to DCC. I've decided that even though I have the DB150 (booster & power supply), for what the discounted prices for the plug-in panel and the throttle will total, it'll be longer than I want before I have all of what I'd need to run under DCC. So I will do my gaps and wiring for DC now, but with the aim to be able to use it later on for DCC (without, preferably, having to rip out and re-do any wiring). May need to pick a few more knowledgeable minds in the Diner when I get closer to the actual wiring (electricity is NOT my strong suit).

In other (non-MRR'ing) news, in the past week plus I received word on my application for LPC (licensed professional counselor,  = insurance companies will actually pay for me to see people for therapy). Usually with our other people at w**k, they get PLPC (provisional....all that other stuff) for a while and then get the LPC. But God was good to me, and (maybe the licensing board took pity on me, too) when I got the email notice (about a half-week before the actual license arrived in the mail), they said I was given full licensure (LPC rather than PLPC first for a bit). Now to see if that will translate into any raise... Also, we're a person short on the crisis team, and our supervisor had to take over that person's part of the on-call rotation, plus has to interview and hire another person for that slot (likely before I get to switch over to just doing therapy and get off of w**king crisis and on-calls).

I've been checking my inventory of MRR stuff and updating it in the 'puter (structures, freight/passenger cars, locos, scratchbuilding supplies and detail stuff, scenery items, etc., etc.....). Boggles the mind to realize how much stuff a person can accumulate toward building a model railroad.Wow

Whew! Think I'll kick back and relax a bit, after talking/thinking about all that. Zoe, could I have a refill on my RBC, please? Thank you, darlin'!

Have been keeping you Diners in mind (and AngelAngel) even though I haven't been in for a while. Next week I will be off w**k/on vacation for a week (actually, it will start tomorrow at 8 a.m.). So I hope to get by the Diner every couple of days or so, even with some MRR'ing stuff, apartment cleaning (long overdue), and de-cluttering that need to be fitted into my 'vacation'. Wink

Tom, the little GE loco is actually a 45 tonner.  She has the side rods on the trucks, the 44 tonners don't have those.  She still sports dual 150 HP prime movers and looks a bit better than she did before she went into the shops.  I am looking forward to her pulling trains at the R&GV RR.  More about her here: http://rgvrrm.org/about/railroad/rge1941/index.htm

Jeff:  I had one of those Athearn Trainmasters way, WAY back when I actually ran diesels, and I remember it as being a really great locomotive.  It's one that I gave to my grand-nephew when I got rid of all my post-1956 prototype equipment, and it's probably still running on his layout (assuming he's still got a layout, that is).

I bet it didn't have as many tiny pieces as this Atlas Trainmaster does. Wow! The shell was starting to look like a Chinese puzzle as I took it apart. I took the radiators out so I could paint the grilles separately and not have paint settle in blobs on the fans.

Morning all from SunnyCal--supposed to be in the mid-90's today, but we've got a little Delta breeze this morning, so hopefully it won't get as hot (102) as it did yesterday. 

Had to take Uff-Dah, my Norwegian Forest Cat to the vet this morning--nothing serious, just his tri-montly asthma shot, which is always an Experience.  He does NOT like to ride in the car or visit the Vet, and when you've got a ticked-off 20-something pound furball, you learn VERY quickly how to manipulate them.  Leather gloves, out of the cage very quickly, slam the needle into his hip, back into the cage and both you and the Vet wiping your foreheads and going, "Whew!"   I mean, who ever heard of a Norwegian Forest Cat that's allergic to TREES, for cryin' out loud?! 

Spooky, my Maine Coon, on the other hand, is a DREAM at the Vet's.  She just preens herself on the examination table and says, "I'm here, ADORE me!"  Which they do, LOL! 

Well, ;I finally got the Great Engine Terminal Problem solved.  One of the Pecos was dead, dead, DEAD!   No matter how many times I added and subtracted feeders to it, it just sat there.  Luckily, when I tore out the original yard, I was able to save all of the Sinohara's (I 'float' my turnouts), so I substituted one and--voila!  Runs like a dream.  And no feeders needed.  (Wipes his brow in exhaustion).   So today is ballasting time.  And yes, I tested all of my locos--well, at least representative ones--in the yard, and everything from my chunky little 2-8-0 through my 2-10-2's and Yellowstones just glides through those #5's like a dream.  FINALLY!!  

Ray:  Those photos of that little GE 44 tonner are really neat.  I'm not the world's biggest diesel fan, but that's one cute little lokie.  I remember when I was in the Air Force, our barracks was fairly close to the railyard on base, and they had one that burbled away very happily there. 

Sue:  That's one GREAT photo!  If that isn't the Northwest, then I don't know what is, LOL!   So glad you're back.  Bow

Petra has made a nice B-day cake for me - to share with you, just as a little thank you for your greetings and best wishes.

Gosh, I am 55 now, but there are days when I feel like 16 or 18, and days when I feel like 80.  Right now it is closer to 80 ...

Zoe, would you be so kind and cut the cake for me - don´t forget to help yourself to it and save a few pieces for Vinnie and the other gals, please. I´ll have some coffee with it!

I was planning to start assembly of that station kit, but I´ll postpone that until tomorrow. I bet my phone will start to interrupt me any moment now.
