Good morning. It's 87°, hot and cloudy. The high should be 99°.

I'm going to be busy for a while cataloging a bunch of stuff I just got in. I received two big boxes in the mail this morning. They were filled to bursting with HO stuff. Structure kits, freight cars, passenger cars, steamers, diesels, Kadee couplers (#5, #148), metal wheelsets. It's somebody dumped a hobby shop on my doorstep! Did I win the lottery or something? ;D

Good morning ..

Is it Friday yet? ..... Oh, thanks Galaxy. It's Thursday. Oh well.

Jeff that's a neat little crane. Is it one you made?

Todd ... You were talking about California laws. It seams like all the states have goofy laws doing more harm than good. I liked your observation car.

Jerry. I like that old IC picture.

Happy Model Railroading.

No, I had that left over from a kit. I had to glue a penny to the bottom to get it to stand up.

Afternoon All,

It has been a good MRR day. I got all the track painted with rust and I have to say I think it really makes the track look good. I also ran my CMX cleaning car for the first time, it cleans really well. It also found 4 track nails that needed hammered down a little bit more and a Tortoise control wire that needed trimmed just a hair more. One think I found was that it tended to bog down the loco on re-railers if running at a slow speed. I am not going to make it to Lowe's today so that is a project for tomorrow.

I am going out to dinner with MOH, Daughter and her husband after the women get their hair cut. We will probably go to Logans.

Jeff- It sounds like you had Christmas in AugustBig Smile.

Lee- Looking forward to seeing pics of your latest modeling work.

Not the greatest pics.

Everybody have a good night.

 Evening Folks

 Flo, Beer Please

Well, this weekend (Gary it is not Friday yet) was one of the worst one yet. (I am off Wednesday and Thursday) Been in the dumps both days, did not feel like doing anything and didn't.

Looking For Work Did get a call today about being a over the road Semi Driver. I will call them back Friday and see if it is a scam to get me to pay to go to a Truck Driving School. Wife is dead set against the idea of me being gone 21 days a month.  But if they will really pay for my schooling and pay me $1,000.00 a week I will do it.

Work Front Last three days have been caboose, paces is below $35,000.00 with the 2 days Shaun has had.

Did enjoy doing the car sorting today, that was the high lite.

Jeffery Going to post any pictures of your haul?

I made an interesting discovery this afternoon. We have been going through boxes and bags in the attic, the plan being to get rid of a lot of that junk. Then in one box, I discovered a "book" that I don't even remember getting. It is sort of like a high school annual, except it is for the company to which I was assigned  for basic training at Fort Gordon, GA in 1966. Company D, 3rd Battalion, 1st Brigade. To say those photos brought back memories is an understatement. I have always remembered my Drill Instuctors and their names, but I had forgotten a lot of the others who I served with. The first 2/3 rds of the book are generic, with only the the last part containing photos of the Cadre, DI's and trainees in D company. I suppose other basic training companies received the same book with their photos. I sometimes find it hard to believe that so much time has passed since Viet Nam. At first, I thought I might do some research with the "Wall" web site, and see if any of these guys didn't make it home, but the more I think about, I don't think I want to know.

Everybody have a good one. Tom

Evening Gang: Today we did not hit 100F. There were even some showers but not at our place. Anyway the record still stands for 1980 42 days of 100F+ and 69 days total. We may equal or break the total, but I hope not, I'm ready for some cool weather.

No work in the basement today, I worked on cleaning out the pond again. I have about 20 yards of dirt piled up ready to haul out. I'll use the big tractor to do that. It carries 3 times as much as the 25 horse Kubota. The Kubota is better at grading the pond bottom.

Well I've got to go.

Good Night everyone.

Good Morning!! Coffee, scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, whole wheat toast with butter and apple jelly please. Thank you.

Partly sunny, with a high near 84.

Yesterday I FINALLY got around to finishing staining the back porch floor (finishing staining? ) She started but didn’t finish (and she has the NERVE to talk about me) Now the railing and skirting needs done. She no longer wants it painted, I no longer care, the dog… just wants a treat. Life at our house is again normal.

Today, I again do not know what will happen other than the normal trip to Mom’s and w**k at 5. I could continue with the back porch so it gets done before winter (chuckle) or I could do some stuff out at Mom’s I’d like to do but reeeeally don’t want to. Like paint. Only two rooms left. Might as well. As long as when I turn on the tv there is no NCIS marathon on I should be ok. I'll admit it, I'm an NCIS junky. If NCIS is on, and USA Network shows them alot some days, I seem to get nothing done because I have to watch that silly thing. Not sure because it's been a while, but I think I'm fond of Ziva (hot HOT! bites palm).  Wink Embarrassed Whistling  Laugh

Good morning. It's gonna be a hot one today. Late last night I got the little Pemco 2-6-0 running. It's motor amd drive is located in the tender and is a lot like the drive used for the old Tyco 2-8-0 Royal Blue and the 0-8-0 Canadian. It's gears are just not made with the butter soft plastic Tyco was known to use. I got the Hobbytown GP7 running better also. The Athearn SD45 was easily made runnable. It sounds like two skeletons having a wrestling match on a tin roof but it runs well. A couple of the others like the Atlas Trainmaster are newer and just need a good cleaning. The Atlas FP7 needed very little work and is running quite well. The Alco PA set also runs very well. When I get the chance I'll be changing out the motor in it with a much newer one. Later today I'll be taking a look at the rolling stock. The PRR passenger cars have potential.

 Morning Folks

Flo, I take what Todd ordered.

Weather If the computer is right, it is 59 degrees here in Maryville. That will work for me! High will be 83 today.

Todd Far as NCIS, I think I have told you this before, on CBS.COM

                                      http://www.cbs.com/shows/ncis/

You can watch NCIS anytime you want. I all got all there sessions DVD's from the Library.

Curt I forgot to mention I like the rails you weathered. Makes me wish I had painted mine.

Jeffery You got some good looking engines, how many do you have now? I have lost count of how many I have, I think it is around 50 or so.

 See you later.

Morning All,

Going to be hot today, what else is new? I think the heat index will be 105 F today. Only plans are to figure out my mounting for the dwarf signals and I need to redo my track pans. They stick up too far for some of my smaller loco's.

Jeff- I'm glad that it sounds like you are getting those loco's running quickly. Is your layout DC or DCC?

Lee- Good luck at the Dentist. Going there is probably my least favorite thing to do.

Everyone take care.

Hmmmmm ... Friday? Time flies.

Shall I venture into WPF?  .. I received a nice email from John Whitten saying he deleteted my thread saying I "suffered enough"....  I appreciate that. ... John is a good guy for doing that. ... Not to make excuses, but I take a lot of medications for my heart failure, and I can awaken some of the mornings feeling "buzzed" and confused. ... Oh, well. .. All  I can do is just make jokes about it.

Jeff.... That's quite a haul. I can imagine Sundown Shops will be working overtime for a while. I think the Atlas FP7's are the smoothest running engines of those being made when they were first offered. Also, I think Athearn locomotives were the best for the money at the time. I still have a lot of older engines, and still have much of the layout on DC.

Happy Model Railroading

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sour dough toast to go along with the dark roast coffee you already brought me.

Tired.....  Went to bed about 12:30 AM and tossed and turned for the next 2 hours.  Blackie woke me up at 8AM just for fun....  I may have been running the chain saw a bit loud I think.

My sister and the student should be arriving early to mid afternoon today.  Still have some cleaning to get done before they arrive.  Seems I have some muscles I have forgotten about over the years.  They are talking to me today.  been doing a lot of lifting, tugging, sliding and such getting this "upgrade finished" .  I'm hoping my guests can help me take the old, worn out furniture out to the back porch sometime over the weekend.  I still have a lot of odds and ends to do with moving equipment.

Currently a pleasant 73°F here in the Finger Lakes with a high of 81°F predicted.  much more my type of weather......  Sun is shining as well!

Later!

The old Athearn and Atlas locos are the ones I'm having the best luck with. The Tyco and Mantuas are a lost cause as the motors are fried. That's a shame because one of the Mantua's is a nice looking Mountain with some really good looking drive rod detail. It moves but very slow and howls like a banshee. Maybe somebody will remotor it but it won't be me.I was really surprised when I got the little Pemco Mogul going. It just had some hard crud caught in the gears. Now it runs like a scalded dog. The little brass Olympia mogul (is it brass? Some kind of metal) is a nice looking little thing but it won't run at all. The Athearn Hi-F RDC was the big surprise. It's motor works great. It would probably run good if I put some rubber bands in it. The Hobbytown GP9 runs good but sounds like a coffee grinder. The body on it looks to be Athearn.

Jeff- I'm glad that it sounds like you are getting those loco's running quickly. Is your layout DC or DCC?

Well (boy that's a long way down there) being stuck at home most of the time I have a lot of time on my hands. Keeping busy makes the time go by faster. The layout is DCC but I have a Bachmann trainset power pack hooked up to run the switch machines. It's also handy for testing the motor s in this old locos. I do a static test first to see if the motor runs then put the loco on the track and run it back and forth on DCC on address 00.

Jeff... You can re-motor and get parts for Mantua at http://yardbirdtrains.com/

Yardbird might have something for the brass steamer, too.

I have some Hobbytowns still. They need lubrication on the metal gears, but can not be as quiet as today's models.

The motor in the PA1 has been changed out. It runs much quieter now. The frames of the old model and the new model are so similar it was almost a drop-in replacement.
