Good afternoon Fellas!

Maybe things are working right again [knock on wood]. It was a very productive weekend at the museum, but now I have to get working on two paintings, the DM&IR painting, and the CP mikado.

We had close to 100 people there Saturday with the special train making an appearance. The one good piece of news to come from that is the fact that the WNY&P can run passenger extras, something we have been hoping for. I'd like to see about running a steam excursion from Salamanca to Hornell during our Falling Leaves Festival in the next couple of years, and maybe we can do it now. I heard that the NYC lightning striped E units should be running at the Medina rail museum very soon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

We also got news that the Seneca Nation is doing a structural study on the old Erie depot across from the museum. I hope they can save it. It would be great for offices and small shops.

I did manage to run some trains on the layout last week. Mostly Pennsy steam:

Those BLI engines are the best ever!

Have a good night all!

Jeff ... I'll have to look carefully at some ARR photos I took when I was there several years ago. I know one has an F7B.

Stan ... That's a great layout photo. Glad it was a good weekend.

If you're thinking about the Alaska Railroad F7B that had AAR trucks that would be the 1505. It was sold to Seattle Iron and Metal and scrapped in 1986.

Evening All,

W**k has been fairly steady but not ridiculous. Got rain for awhile today and it is trying to do it again. Don't go into w**k until 4 PM tomorrow so I have chores to do around the house before leaving. I hope to get the pedestals cut out for the dwarf signals tomorrow also, but not sure if I will get to them (6).

Bill- Welcome Back. Everybody missed you.

Stan- I love my I1sa but I got it with the large tender (BLI Refurb) and wish I had got the short tender like you have.

Jeff- Good job on the headlight.

Everyone have a good night.

Evenin' Folks!

Evenin' Bill!  How was vacation?  Yes one word answers do just fine.....Smile, Wink & Grin

I'm taking a break from putting together some new furniture I got today.....  Also just got rid of the old DX-11 Synthesizer.  It will have a good new home at one of the area churches.

Janie, just a decaf for the moment.  i have to get back to w*rk!  So far it has gone together as the directions have stated....  But, I have a long way to go!

YGW, Thank goodness for better halves that insist on getting seen by the Docs.....  Tetanus is not a nice thing to have....  Can still be fatal!  if your arm is sore from the shot, you more than probably needed to get it!  means your body is getting geared up for any attack!  Just curious, how many years ago did you get the previous booster???

Later!

 Evening Folks

Flo, yep I will take a Beer tonight, but Tuesday back to lemonade.

Work Front Yes Yet another good day with $2900.00 in sales. While I have no idea how long the up swing will last it does feel good.

Curt Anytime I speak of commission that is on top of my base pay.

 Base is $500.00 a week

 Commission is based on 7% of total sales - base pay. If I sale $38,000.00 X 7% = $2660.00 - $2000.00 base = $660.00 in commission.

Bonus. If the store (Shaun's sales count) delivers $45,000.00 I get a extra $500.00, and a extra $500.00 for ever $5,000.00 there after. If the store delivers $50,000.00 I get a $1000.00 bonus.

Paces has fallen off a little. At this time I am projected to do $39,600.00 for $2772.00 = $772.00 in commission. Store on the other hand is on paces to do $47,566.00 so there is another $500.00. So if the store and I maintain this paces with my base pay I could make $3272.00 this month.

But again we are only 8 days into this month. It could fizzle out, or get better. Only time will tell at this point.

Sorry again to talk about work so much. Till I find a job with a stable and livable base pay it is on my mind all the time.

Ulrich Hope you enjoy your training for a job that is not there? Far as being a Moderator, if you don't like doing it, quite. There not going to ban you from the site, and if it takes the enjoyment from coming to the site then don't do it. Life is to short to do something you don't enjoy unless you are making Big Bucks!

Well, I am out of here tonight. See you all later.

Evening all!  Just stopping in for a tall glass of milk and a few chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies.  Not much happening right now just watching the Andy Griffith Show with Amy, the girls are in bed.  I am of course listening to the scanner feed from up in Montgomery, AL.  Things are a little quiet right now, but seem to be slowly picking up.  I've been working on going through some information on my MRR, about all I have left to do is head down the road and follow the rails and get some up close pictures of what's happening between Troy and Thomasville, GA.

I think I'm going to cruise around here a bit and see what's happening, OR do some more digging around more on the history of the line and industries....

Later Taters!

Evening Gang: I got alittle more done in the basement tonight. Still alot to do but getting there.

Inch, the grass is toast and I mean that literaly. We still have 378 bales of hay so should make it to next spring, I hope. Still no let up in the heat and no chance of rain. When I was putting out hay this afternoon it was 113F on the outside air temp in the tractor. In the cab it was 108F. With the sun not hitting me and the AC running it wasn't to bad. Much better then being outside when I had to open and close gates.

It's 11:30pm so I'd better get to bed.

Good Night All

Good Morning!

Bill - glad to see you´re back - we were missing you!

Did not sleep much last night. We received a call that Petra´s uncle had slipped and fell. Though he is not hurt much, it is somewhat of a disaster, as he is taking care of his wife, who is suffering from multiple sclerosis and tied to a wheelchair.  Aside from a friendly neighbor, there is none around to help her now. We have been trying to persuade them to also move into assisted living, but, heck, they are as stubborn as my parents. Will there be an end to this?

Fortunately, it was train night on TV, so I watched some nice train movies before falling asleep in the sofa. I am all sore now and feel a big headache coming.

My rude friend keeps sending me nasty and rude PM´s - boy, must I have stepped on his foot. He seems to be getting his fun out of emptying a bucket of muck over other people - do I feel sorry for him!

On the nice side, the feature I wrote for the Japan Rail Modelers of Washington, DC is now being published on their web site - a sneak preview is available here.

Have a good one!

Good morning all. Got back home late from Columbus yesterday we were pretty beat. The wife was really tired from the trip. They drew blood and had it checked also took a bone marrow sample. At the time when we left most of the blood results came back ok..... won,t know anything on the bone marrow sample for at least a week.Taking the day off today we have a bad caterpillar infestation. Right behind my house is a wooded area and I notice some web like places on the tree tops. Every day they got larger and now all of the trees behind me have no leaves!!!! Thursday my wife called me at work and said the entire deck and back yard was covered in worms. I have never seen anything like this! They have destroyed our rose and lilac bushes and now they are in our 50 yr old maple tree. I,m am going to try some sevin pest control hoping this works but there are so many that it may already be to lateSad

Good Morning All,

A regular to go please Zoe. Not much to report but did get some time in putting in the rock face (cut stone resin moldings actually) for the elevated tracks in the urban area. I wanted to do that as I need to fill the spaces between the riser blocks and having it done all at once is easierby using tape on the foam risers next to the foam road bed, etc.

Good to se Bill back.

Off to Vermont this weekend for the hillclimb at Mt Equinox. otherwise just swamped with jobs here.

         Catch y'all later, J.R.

OK, now the trouble is getting serious! I can't bring the forum at all on Firefox or Internet Explorer. I have to assume the staff at Kalmbach is working on the problem.

Hi Jeffrey- since I took your advice and re-downloaded IE8, I have had little trouble with the forum acting up. Apparently IE8 IS tied into AOL somehow. And I DO remember having a popup window ocassionally that asks "do you want IE to remember this password?" I always opt for no, just in case I am on someone else's computer or a shared computer.Had to be careful at the hotel to sign in and out of everything I did. SO no one else could get into my stuff hopefully.

Now it seems fine both on IE8 {though it is VERY slow there} and on AOL.

I did NOT download IE9, which  you later said doesn't supprt windows XP. THAT may be the trouble some have with it.

Good luck!

Good Morning!! Coffee and…..um…..uh….surprise me. Nothing weird though. Thanks.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Cold snap comin through for the next couple three days. Weather so far, looks pretty good for the upcoming ILLinoyz STATE FAIR! Oh joy.

Bill, good to see you back.

Still zipping along with no more problems with the site. ’Tis odd. But, then again, until this time, I usually don’t have issues that many have.

Due to a series of events that could only happen to meConfused, I did make it into the train room last evening, but for only about a half hour. The majority of time was spent thinking of what needs to be done, future planning, picking up one item. No, two. And basically just piddling doing nothing.

Today and forever more I shall make no plans to go down there, just let it happen. Like Yogurt. I’m sure nobody planned that either. It just sorta happened. Maybe this winter when outside stuff stops.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Galaxy: Good to hear you have you IE problem sorted. Mine is still dropping tabs, throwing out error messages, crashing and generally being a nuisance. Firefox plays well on reading but goes AWOL when I attempt to post. Good thing I have Opera.

Good morning. It's 79° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 96°, hot and partly cloudy.

This morning I have a trio of F units with a bit of an identity crises. The A unit is a Proto 1000 F3A body on an Athearn F7 RTR powered chassis, the first B unit is a Proto 2000 F3B body on an Athearn F7 blue box powered chassis and the second B unit is a 1960's Hi-F Athearn F7B body on a Proto 1000 powered chassis. All three have Digitrax DZ125 decoders. Elsewhere on the layout the Hi-F dummy frame (complete with original trucks) is wearing an Athearn blue box F7B body and looks right at home with it.

My father's car is on the fritz again. He had put it in the shop to have problem fixed. For some reason the starter has been kicking in while the engine is running. The guys at the shop thought this was due to a faulty ignition switch. So the ignition switch was replaced. The car ran OK for a day then the problem returned. My thinking is that the problem is in the wiring (hard to find) or in one of the computer modules (harder to find). He can't drive it as it is so his plan is to tow it to the shop behind his RV. He had originally purchased the car to be towed behind the RV when he and the Mrs were traveling so it's equipped with a tow bar. Convenient. In a good mood he ain't. He's already spent half a grand trying to get this problem fixed.

On the layout front I'm toying with the idea of turning a passenger car and a pair of F7's (A-B set) into a sidetrack diner with a bit of a twist. Half of the passenger car is the kitchen and the other half is used as a diner, nothing usual there. The locos are gutted and used as dining cars. That's the twist. I've even found a prototype for it. The Track 29 Diner in Yakima Washington. How many of us can say we've had a formal dinner in a locomotive?

Mornin folks,,,, an irish coffee Zoe, a short stack, sausage, n throw an over easy egg on top please. Still a tad warm today, but the humidity supposed to be down.

RAY,,,, sorry bout dat, didn’t mean to spoil yur day. I have seen barns shed roofs with longer sheets on top as a patch after a wind storms n such. As to what you should do I can’t say, but if the sheets will come off what breakin rafters go for it, if not, don’t worry bout.

YWG,,,, if yur Momma is like my mom and the wife,, NO you cannot have one of those trains, and where would you put it if you did.

Or at least that what they told me when I had a riveted tank car gave to me for haulin it off. I’ve got a pic of it somewhere here.

PAUL,,, I figured the grass was done, glad you have enough hay for awhile anyway. I remember a number of year ago now, loading hay into boxcars, because of another drought down that way.

TIM,, sounds like you’ve got army worms. We had them down in the river bottoms by Darwin, back bout 34 year ago. They cleaned out every field for bout 4-5 mile. And if you drove down the blacktop when they were crossin, it was like drivin on ice. You might check with the ASCS or farm extension an see what they say to use, I know wasn’t anything to kill’em back then.

Hope the rest the test come back ok

Here’s  another train set

Well [shallow like my mind], I best get ta chores, got plenty to do. Thoughts for all those in need n hope ya’ll has a gooden

Good Afternoon Gang!

Just heard the news - the German stock market is down by 20 % within the last 10 days! I am really glad I have "invested" the My 2 Cents into something that gives me a much better return - fun!

Zoe, coffee and a handful of chocolate chip cookies, please.

Ken - the Japan Rail Modelers are actually some sort of club in the Washington DC area. They "promote" model railroading Japanese style and maintain an interesting web site for that purpose. So it is not a magazine. I am glad you liked my little report. As towards being a mediocre model railroader, my work is a far cry from being what Garry, Ray and some others show here in the forum. But, hey, nothing bad about being only "mediocre" - I bet the fun´s just the same.

Tim - invasion of worms? Yucch! We had something like that about 10 years ago, costing me half a dozen of trees in my garden. Petra was not amused. We took all of them down and burned them.

Jeff - that is an extraordinary idea for a diner! Maybe we should persuade Vinnie to do that, turning our place here into a diner RDC.

Galaxy - I am glad you have solved the browser issue - I still wonder why I don´t seem to be having any.

We have lost quite a few of our friends while riding the rails in Canada. The MIA list is now longer than ever before. Where art thou, friends?

Good morning ...

I still have a heck-uv-a-time with this site on the old Dell even after IE8 is installed. Took a while to post in the "Show Me Something" thread.

JR ... I'm glad to hear you are working on the layout. Anytime you want to show pictures of the old layout in the meantime, feel free to do that. It was a great layout.

Jeff ... I didn't know there were any Hi-F's still running.

Galaxy ...  Yes, sir. Markets were rough yesterday. I'll just ride out the storm. Cheers.

The stock markets have been volitile for sure. The analysts are now saying the markets overall are underevalued by about 35%. Meanwhile the dividend rates on many companies are well above interest rates on saving accounts. So, I think there are some deals for when the markets calm down.

Have a nice day, everybody.

Blownout Cylinder:  Hey, how about sending some of that rain this way.  We could sure use it.  Everyone's singing "How Dry I Am" and Hawkeye's line from a M*A*S*H episode, describing how he wants his martini, "Dry, drier, driest, Mr. Kwok" keeps popping into my head.  My lawn (and others too) are pulling away from the sidewalk and the grass in the boulevards is pulling away from the curbs.  Gardens are full of cracks big enough to lose the family pet in.  My lawn looks like hay and I don't want to think what my next water bill will be from watering it.  Haven't had to water it for years but I'm making up for lost time this summer.  Still hot, although the temperature has been down a few degrees lately.  They keep promising us rain but all we get is a millimetre or two a couple of times.

L&N Tim:  We've got an annual worm problem like that here.  They're called canker worms, green about 3/4" long.  They can strip a tree in no time flat.  Once they've reached the end of that stage of their lives, then head for the ground by hanging on a thread like a spider and lowering themselves to the ground.  When they reach that stage it's creepy to walk down the street brushing aside the hanging worms.  Before coming back into the house, you have to get someone to check you over carefully for worms.  They spend the winter in the ground and change into the adult form which looks like a tiny moth.  In the spring, the adults climb back up the tree trunks and lay their eggs for another generation of worm to eat the leaves.  The way to stop them is to wrap a band of sticky stuff around the tree trunks with fibreglas insulation under the bands so the insects can't get under them.  They get trapped in the sticky stuff and don't make it to the leaves to lay their eggs.  The bands are put on in the fall and removed in the late spring.  But, enough about creepy crawlies.

Johnboy:  Yeah, I suspect that the Diner train would be about half way through Ontario about now.  It would be nice if someone (I think it was Galaxy who started this month's Diner) would give us updates on the progress of the train across the country.  Having a moving Diner is unique (I think) and it would be interesting to know where it was as it travels.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a Butter Rum Muffin and lots of real butter to go along with my dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug please.

Slept in again today.  Must have tired myself out yesterday......   As Barry would say, it is dull outside here this morning.  Currently 69°F under gloomy skies with a bit of precipitation happening.  This is good though as we still are several inches behind on rainfall.  We had about a half inch of rain all last week, which is more than we got in July........  High will be 78°F with some thunderboomers showing up this afternoon.

I have my annual eye exam early this afternoon.  So I will not get much done today.........

Tim, Do contact the extension service in your area....  There is a couple of natural controls that can be used if they are Army Worms.  You might also have a large outbreak of Gypsy Moth........  ???

Galaxy, relax....  the sky is not falling just yet!

Inch, no problem....  I will go ahead and have the building judged as is, and if it passes for a Merit Award great...  If not, I will make some changes.  IIRC when I helped my Dad put up galvanized roofing many, many decades ago, the sheets came out at just over half of the length of the roof, so we just overlapped with the slightly longer looking ones on the top...... I will do a bit more online research on the topic, and see what I can come up with.  In fact i may just ask the roofer when he shows up to put metal roofing on the shed....  Hey, THAT might be a good idea!  Ask someone in the business.

Later!
