I got a good start on clearing the layout this morning but my body had different ideas. I'm still waiting for the pain to subside.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf....  I need a cup of decaf and an advil....  Thanks!

(Watches Bill dance around the diner for a moment)  Wonder what Bill is so happy about tonight?  Bill are you early for tomorrows wake up call, or late for today's?

Jeffrey hope the pain gets in control soon.

I spent most of today tearing apart, painting, and fixing up the back shed by the garden.  I think I will know about it tomorrow....  I have had the Wood Tex shed for at least a dozen years.  The Mennonites down rte. 14 on Seneca Lake make them.  We use them both at our Boy Scout Camp, and at the Presbyterian Church Camp I use to frequent.  I should have painted mine at least 5 years ago, so I am now faced with replacing the trim and dealing with some rotted spots.  Some will have to wait until I put a new roof on the shed (and the house) next year.  Oh, I took me some photos of it, I did!  Wanna see?  Well your going to anyway!!! GrumpyWhistling

This is what I am w*rking on.  You can see the rotted siding at the roofline, and the trim around the doors in bad shape.  All the trim will be replaced in the next couple of days.

North side in progress.  It has new trim on the right end.

The back (West side) and the end with the new trim in place and painted.  After I am finished painting and repairing, I still need to relevel the whole thing.  Not a hard project, just need to get my jack out and do it....

Have a good one!

Steamed veggies with hashbrowns, please.

***Ray, when you're finished with your shed, how about coming over and re-roofing ours? It still has tarps on it from after the tornado. My wife has suggested we let it go. I still have some tools and stuff I need to get out of it. The walls are in great shape, but the roof is on the other side of the fence in several sections and the floor was softened from the storms before I had time to tarp it.

Didn't get much done today at all. Low energy levels today.

Evening All,

Did not stay long at the club. I wanted to install the turnout I purchased. Got home and installed it and soldered it in place. Took a supper break then went to install the last Tortoise which turned out to be a pain. First it wouldn't throw the switch, then it would only throw one way. I pulled it down 3 times before I was able to get it to work properly. Keep in mind this is #26 so it isn't like my first one. Still don't know what the problem was. But wait for it...the switch next to it is now not throwing properly even though last week it was. Sigh I just don't get it.Bang Head

Galaxy- Good luck  with the house offer.

Ken- You should ask for pay since it sounds like you worked most the day. The M1B I have is awesome, it looks great, runs great, and can be used for freight or passenger.

Jeff- Hope your foot and ankle are better feeling soon. I tried the lemonade earlier. I'm not sure if I like it or not. It definitely has a different flavor to it. I will have to try it again.

Ray- Good job on the shed.

Everybody have a good night.

Rob ... Interesting about your friend who worked on red wolf project. As the ranger here explained, there still estimated to be about 200 pure red wolves surviving. This one is fenced in. They keep them in captivity, and release them into the wild at a location in North Carolina. There is a problem with them breeding with coyotes after being released into the wild. Also, they only live about ten years, and that makes it difficult to grow the population. .... I took several other pictures of other wild life today while in the Land Between the Lakes....

Here is one animal to stay away from ……. A copperhead.

Ray .... That shed looks like a lot of work. Does it have a track on the floor like you engine house? Whistling

Good Morning,

Did a little shopping Saturday and took a nap, then worked on the layout for a while.  I’m building a working coal triple at the mine area from brass and copper, and then it will be sheathed in styrene and painted.  Friend is coming up from Virginia today to visit.  Monday I’ve been invited to an open house so I’ll need to fire up those SD9s today and get them ready.

aaawwwwwww...nuts.

We can't seem to get in before you!!Laugh

Good Morning..it is now 2:26am and the neighbourhood is all up..someone decided to try to use a truck to get away from some dang robbery or other and ended up down the street in someone's living room!!

So needless to say one is a rather alert fellow here...good thing we have some trees to offer us a modicum of protection from errant drivers...Whistling

Oh well, while we are up..we might as well say what the weather is going to be here..going to be a mix of sun and cloud with a 30% chance of showers and those ol' t'underin'boomers later on...going to a high of 84F with a heat index of 86FWhistling

Still doing the on-call thing...hopefully one will get a bit of shut eye before the morning gets to far...

Flo, I'll just have a chamomile tea and a breakfast bagel please...I'll be at the RC for a bit..

Good Morning Guys,

boy, do some of you stay up late or get up early!

Chloe, I´ll have my Sunday big breakfast, please - lots of coffee to go with it.

Barry - I am glad the truck did not go into your house. Come to think of it, I really live in a peaceful neighborhood - not much crime in our little town.

Galaxy - the moment you withdraw your offer they will except it, I bet! If they have to sell the house, they won´t get a better offer!

Ray - nice shed!

Ken - what a day!

I will start some work on my module in a few moments. It is starting to look a little better than I thought!

CUL and have a good one!

Good morning. It's 76° and sunny. The high will be 97° and it will be mostly cloudy. There's a very slight chance of rain this morning and a chance of thunderstorms after midnight.

Now that the weather is out of the way I'll have a Tabasco Orange Early Rise.

I intend on getting started on clearing the rest of the layout today but I'll have to take it in small steps instead of trying to do it in one operation. In clearing part of it yesterday I found my sunglasses. I also found my 3D glasses which coming in handy for some of my computer games. The games are nothing new, in fact they're dinosaurs compared to today's games. Duke Nukem 3D, the Doom series (all of them), Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny (spinoff of Wolfenstein 3D). I also have a couple of text adventure games I wrote many years ago to run on my Apple IIe that I converted to run in Quick Basic under MSDOS and they run rather nicely under XP. As for doing anything outside, I have no intention of going outside today except maybe to get a trash can. My door is only twenty-five inches wide so it's much easier to get a can in and out than to get a loaded trash bag out without losing my balance, which is real easy to do. Pushing me over makes cow tipping look hard.

Good morning all.  I'll have a plate of scrambled eggs with rye toast, a glass of OJ and coffee, please.

All this talk about learning to drive with a standard transmission reminds me of when I learned to drive.  It was back in 1960 and it was the first year of driver training in the high schools in our city.  We went out in groups of three students in the car with the instructor.  The car had a standard transmission with the shift lever on the steering column.  Part of our lesson was learning to start the car up on a hill.  The instructor would have us drive to a road that went up a hill and stop the car, put it in neutral and apply the parking brake.  Then we had to hold down the brake and clutch pedals, release the parking brake, put it in first gear and start going.  Thinking back on it, that car must have gone through a few clutch plates in its lifetime!  I didn't own an automatic until 10 years later.  I taught both my sisters-in-law how to drive a standard after they got their licenses on an automatic and it paid off for one of them.  Her husband will only buy a car with a standard transmission.

Oh, I see I got top billing this morning.  Ah well, breakfast is on me, Zoe.  Whatever they want and keep the coffee coming.

 Morning all.

Flo, I have what Ulrich had, and a Diet Dew please.

Well back to work today, I could use the peace and quite after my day off. Whistling

Did not sleep well last night and the morning my left hand feels a little numb. It happens when I sleep on my left side a lot.

Today after work, I have to drive to St Louis to buy a few things. Gas right now is .30 cents less per gallon in St Louis so I get some while I am there.

I think tonight project will be getting another cheap 40 footer car is services. This one will be a Bachmann car letter for THE ROCK railroad.

See you all later, and I hope Ulrich will have some pictures to show.

Good morning fellas!

It looks to be another beautiful summer day here in the Allegheny river valley.

I hope to have a pic of the NKP painting for you guys this afternoon, I want to get a little more finished on the locomotive first.

It was an interesting day at the museum yesterday, I had a couple from Horseheads NY visiting on their 50th anniversary. The lady wanted to buy her husband one of my newest paintings, they both were very impressed with the W**k, but he asked if I could create an image he keeps in his head from his childhood growing up in King Of Prussia Pa back in the Pennsy steam days. I really try to stay away from commissioned w**k, but I promised them I would do a little research, and try to get a scene of a Pennsy freight rolling across the Schuylkill river in his hometown. Now I gotta do a little digging for a pic of that bridge! I think it will be pretty easy to do. He gave me a lot to w**k with. I'm thinking about a classy M1 mountain with mixed freight [his wishes] on a late summer afternoon when the sun hangs low, but still provides ample light. His wife liked the B&O painting on the Carrollton bridge with it's lighting and the long shadows. Anyway, You'll get a look at it as it progresses.

Ray, the shed looks great! We have a shed built by the Mennonites at our camp in Pa. They do a nice job. You know, I've probably been in your neck of the woods a thousand times. When I was stationed at Griffiss AFB in the early 1980's, I'd drive back and forth to Salamanca many weekends always going down through the finger lakes through Geneva, Pen Yan, and Bath to catch Rt 17 into Salamanca. I always imagined what the image of Pennsy I1's lumbering along the lake would have looked like there. Beautiful country. Please stop by the museum if you're in the area. That goes for everyone. If I'm not there, just tell Jerry, and I can be there in less than 5 minutes. I"d love to give you guys a tour of the museum.

Lastly, my Dad and I are grieving over the loss of a close friend, a fellow B&O retiree who died in a car accident here two days ago. He would ride with us to Punxsutawney Pa for their RR retirees luncheon a couple times a year, and always attended our Retirees luncheons here. He and Dad got together last week for the fist time in a few months, and told me how much he loved my paintings. We'll miss him.

Life's short, so we have to make the best of the time we have!

Chris - I tried to scan an old photo of the Ward LaFrance I was talking about, but it was a no go. Apparently the driver for my scanner doesn't play well with Windows 7, and I couldn't find an update last night. I think my friend has a scanner, and if so, I'll get him to scan it for me. Anyway, it doesn't look much like the one in your photo. it was a bigger and beefier cab. It was also one of the first 1000 GPM pumps around here. It was a great piece of equipment, very dependable and with an excellent pump. Safety issues aside, an open cab was great and over the years, the most fun to drive and operate.   Tom

Good Morning!! I’ll just have some of those sticky caramel rolls off the buffet. Yes, Dark Roast please. Thank you. Ooo, wolves and snakes in here. Where are we again? Reminds me of the time we spend above the border a while back. Haven’t got over that Moose staring at me through the window. I still think they eat meat. Hey, you didn’t see the look in that things eyes.

Uh-oh….Sorry Bob, forgot to mention that a double post at TOP means the tip is doubled to the girls.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 101.

The wedding went off fine. No one was shot, no feuds and the shed is still standing. Or so I think. When we left, the last dog was still roaming around. Got a little warm yesterday and it was an outside wedding. Not much shade on a farm, so most people didn’t sit, the stood in the shade of the grain bins. The reception was in the shed with assigned seating for approx 300 I think they said, but we were in the second row in from the big door and it was nice gentle breeze. Almost like air conditioning. Get a couple more rows into the shed and it wasn’t so comfy. Kinda funny to see some of those women who doll up for these things, their faces literally melt. First they glaze over, then almost shine. Then they do shine, and then things start to run as the sweat has finally GOT to get out. “Honey why are you sad and crying?” “I’m not crying George, I’ve been smiling all night. Why do you ask?” “IndifferentOh nothing honeyIck! . Nothing.Zip it!

Ken- Have you had a chance to try the tab yet? Sometime today I will seriously set down and come up with some times I will assuredly be available here at home this week and PM you. Or Conversation you. Whatever it’s called.

Family reunion today for line descending from my Grandmothers Father. Getting to be rather small anymore. Back when I was a kid, used to be they’d have to rent the park in Pleasant Hill and fill that place up. Made pert near the entire day out of it. And food! Man was there a lot of food. I think everyone brought entire meals for their families and a few guests, then put them all on a table, forgot what they brought and all just dug in to whatever. Fried chicken potato salad, desserts….. all the stuff you can’t leave out of refrigeration for more than twenty minutes. Well I tell you what, that stuff rode in cars and set out in an un airconditioned building in 90 degree heat for HOURS and no one got even as much as a stomach ache from anything other than over eating. Now, we just rent the room at the Methodist Church in Pittsfield and the meal is catered. Just bring a dessert to share. Takes us almost as long to travel than is spent there.

When we get home, I should pull a Jeff and clean up the layout. But need to mow. Didn’t get quite that point yesterday though I did get some yard work done.

I want to get some time to actually w**k on the layout so I have something MRR related to talk about. Until then I suppose I can find something to say.Whistling

Welp, I just posted the weather forecast and I’ma thinking the train room is a heck of a lot cooler than where the mower will be with me behind it. We’ll see what happens.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Afternoon,

a hot and humid day today - not my kind of weather to feel alright! I still have a sore throat, but it is improving.

Flo, a nice cup of coffee, please.

I did get some w*rk done on that module. It is not finished yet, still needs finishing touches, like weathering, putting up the catenary poles etc. I took some quick shots that I´d like to share:

The start (as per yesterday morning)

... and it now looks like this:

I have now three scenicked modules.

I will take some "decent" pictures, once it´s finished!

OK, This post was a post explaining the previous format of the above post by me and how it posted different than how I had it and how the 4 edits I tried to return it to where it should have been were IGNORED by the program after I clicked post. I decided to try just one more time and....it worked. So don't waste your time reading this post. It says nothing. You read it. I told you you don't have too. Don't get mad at me! Morning All,

Just sitting here looking at the Forum and other sites that I visit. I'm still on the first cup of coffee. MOH made me a egg and chicken bacon sandwich for breakfast. The chicken bacon had no flavor, but it was something different. I think the plan for me is to later grill ribs for supper. We pre cook them in the oven the day before so they are tender and easy to finish on the grill without them being burned or raw.

I will probably go up to test the Tortoises in a bit. I would really like to get done with this and continue on to the next step. Question: How long do you wait before trimming the wires that stick up through the turnouts. I am a little apprehensive cutting them as I have thrown all of them around 4 cycles and they worked then, but as I mentioned 1 of them now is not working properly as of last night.

Stan- I am sorry for the loss of your friend. There is a guy in our club that works for CSX locally. He was telling me yesterday that he will probably be going to work for CN because of better pay and more hours. He says CN is looking for 20 people with his job experience.

Ray- That Engine House should be in a museum. The quality of work is that good.

Prayers for those in need, and I will talk to you later.

Chris - I got another scanner to work. This photo shows the Ward LaFrance, as well as the 1931 Ahrens-Fox pumper which had been converted to a ladder truck. A real bear to drive because it was over loaded and had mechanical breaks. The middle truck was a 1939 Diamond T squad truck, which had a pump added on the front bumper area. Another truck that was always a thrill ride. This was a volunteer outfit that I joined in the early 60's. After returning from Viet Nam, I took the civil service test and went on the County Fire Department where I was primarily stationed at Greater Pittsburgh International Airport. At the airport, we also provided fire protection for two military bases. Tom

Mornin' everyone!

Yawn.......  Still tired even though I slept like a log last night!  Zoe I'll help myself to the Breakfast Buffet if you will kindly bring me a cup of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.

Actually I have lost about 10 lbs. so far and I am sleeping better already.  Probably breathing better.....  Will be getting back at the shed in a bit.  Would like to get the other 2 sides prepared to paint today if nothing more.  Got a call from my son about the time I got out of bed this morning asking if I was coming over for supper tonight.  My answer, "But of course!"  So i will only have a couple of hours to w*rk on it.  Thanks for all the nice comments on it guys.  Barry, no it didn't come with the house.  I bought it about 14 or so years ago IIRC and we bought the house about 27 years ago.  Only lived here a couple years when My wife died.  Oh, and it doesn't have track in it....  yet!  If I ever make the decision to put in a G scale layout, it will become an "Engine House" of sorts........Smile, Wink & Grin

Stan, one of these days If I ever get caught up with "must do's" I plan to stop down to Salamanica and see your museum.

Curt, thank you!  I have had a lot of fun so far with the Engine House project.  I have spent a lot more time on it than I thought it would take as it has occupied almost all my hobby time for over 10 months.  I just wanted to see what I was capable of doing at this point.  No way I could have done anything like this a few years ago.  Hopefully it will earn a NMRA Merit Award soon.

I best get moving or nothing will get done today.

Ken- OK. I figured you'd catch it if you just had something you knew what it sounded like. If you still need help, let me know and we'll talk on the phone. It'd be easier and a lot quicker that way.

Ray: Did that shed come with the house?

In a perfect world.., yes. In our world.., I doubt it. What's that Janie? Oh, the house. I thought he said A house.

Gotta go. Running late as it is.
