I think they have a Stuka at Wright-Patterson Air Force museum.  They have a B-36 on inside display, but you have to walk on the cat walk to see it. The entire time you’re walking around the first hanger you don’t notice it, even though you are walking under the wings and occasionally walk around the landing gear, it falls into the can’t see the trees because of the forest effect.  They have a couple V-2’s with motors in the third hangar.  It’s a good museum if you get a chance to visit.

Good Afternoon Folks,

we are having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave Whistling

Correspondingly, I don´t feel that great. Pulled myself together this morning and went to our Home Depot (Baumarkt) ang go those bits of 15 mm plywood I needed to build the remaining module frames. Made a heck of a noise in the stairway when I nailed them together Smile, Wink & Grin. Now they are up in the attic, waiting for the paint to dry. Should not take more than an hour or two - it is steaming hot up there. I am glad I am downstairs now, just to cool off.

Btw, this is all it takes to build the frame for one module:

Flo, make that a tasty and refreshing RBF for me, please.

Simon - nice model! We have a model airfield nearby, where I saw a model of a Stuka with a wing span of 10 ft.! Flying at low altitude you could not tell that it was just a model.

Lee - the Stuka had those dreaded sirens, but they were supposedly seldom used - too much noise in the cockpit.

Barry - I suppose these are not pipes for a pipe line in your picture...

The box has not moved during the day - still in customs, awaiting clearance Crying

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes, maple syrup, and side order of bacon, and several cups of dark roast coffee in my FGLK mug.

Today is supposed to be quite pleasant they say.  Currently 69°F with a high of 79°F by mid afternoon.  Clear and sunny.  A perfect day for my churches annual (57th. year) Strawberry Festival.  We have several school and community groups that come to perform, and serve (for a modest fee) locally raised strawberries with shortcake, and many other good things (tasty good THAT is).  I know what I will be having for supper tonight........  My blood sugar should be out of sight when I take it before bedtime...  And, I don't care!

I have to load up the sound equipment I have left into my little trailer and get it set up late this afternoon, for the MC to use for announcements.  Not a difficult job if everything still w*rks......

Have a great day wherever you are!

The Stuka was a cool bird, if I remember correctly it was the only one that had sirens to make it scream on the way into the target. Simon, I thought it was a JU-88 and that it had fixed landing gear?

The Stuka is the JU87 indeed had the screaming sirens to terrify those on the ground.   The JU88 is a medium size multi purpose bomber, twin engine with retractable landing gear.

Here is my personal favorite of WW2.  The almost totally wooden Mosquito with a pair of Merlin engines.

Jeff, your couplers will arrive Saturday in a 5 pound, 10oz box.

Thanks. I'll be expecting it. It'll be interesting to find out what's adding so much weight to the box.

Good morning. It's 74° and partly cloudy. The high will be 98° and it will remain partly cloudy and it goes without saying that it will be hot.

Today I'll see if I can repaint the top of my rebuilt GP7. There was a lot of paint scrapped off the top when I filed off the two sets of dual fans. I may have a shade of gray that matches or failing that I may just repaint the entire top and top edge of the long hood. I haven't done this much work on a loco in years but one thing is for sure. Nobody else will have one just like it.

Morning guys

Managed to get some more progress in on my GP5 (however Bill and other NKP fans may want to look aways). I chopped the nose for the loco, but I kept it high enough that I can make adjustments when I buy the cab:

Also joined the local MR club. I took the autoracks I did, along with a few choice weathered cars of mine (I took the one I got from Rob there too)

Sam, Welcome back. Speaking of Sawyer, he hasn't been in here in a while

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Tongue Tied I am not even going to try and fix the above post from me. Suffice it to say the last two lines were on the same line as the last paragraph with the link after the word found and the type size was the same and never changed. Last time I tried to correct a post like that it took forever and each time came out different than the last but never the way I wanted it.

Good Morning!! Coffee and the donut cart please. Thank you. Hold it! Hold IT! I sense Greeting type cards has been brought up in here…Grumpy.. Actually I prefer Leaning Tree if I’m backed against the wall and forced to get the blasted things.

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Got another ½ inch overnight.

Yesterday, it quit raining and I went out to Mom’s, basement high and dry. Actually low and dry more accurate. Dug and laid another 20 ft. It should go easier and a bit faster now that I’m not up against the foundation. At least until I get out to the old Blue Spruce. Gonna have to pass next to it.

Stan- That painting is fantastic! Can’t wait to see the next. And speaking of that, the photo you posted under it of your layout shot would make a great painting too!

Lee- Whole house warranty? I knew not of such a thing. I will check in on this! Thanks!

You’d think our Realtor would have brought that up.

Ray- I also use Daylight bulbs in the train room. Sylvania I believe. Thanks for the link. The bulbs we prefer for the “fancy lighten fixtyers” are the clear ones. May be forced to change our preference, but for now until they are gone, we’ll probably keep the incans in those. All the other bulbs are going the way of CFL’s. I like them. As for the Mallwart ones, we’ve had good luck. I think we only had a couple dud out on us in a short time. Had a Sylvania fizzle too in the train room.

Speaking of basements and CFL’s. If I didn’t want to use them anywere else, I would want to use them in the basement. Man they have paid for themselves in replaced bulbs alone. The vibration of the floor upstairs what with the walking, running of the Grandkids and the dog, is not conducive to the life span of an incandescent light bulb. Rough service lasted a bit longer, but evn they didn’t last as long as the CFL’s in there now.

Ulrich- Not much of a plane buff, but we share the same taste in WWII aircraft. As for the American side I also liked the B-29 as well as, of course, the B-17.

SAM!!! Great to hear from you again! Work seems to be going well. Hope things in the other parts of the life are too.

Well it appears to have quit raining so, I probably ought to head out to Mom’s and survey the sitchyashun.

You know, I don’t know about a lot of the stuff you guys talk about on this food stuff. I Google or follow your links to know what you’re talking about. Simon just mentioned Marmite. Googling, this is what I found

Ya'll have a great day!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFLHialhZ8c&NR=1  among several others (the mother feeding her baby is pure British funny!). I don’t believe I will try that and I definitely didn‘t eat his stash.

Good morning everyone.  I'm not going to have any breakfast todayCrying

For those interested there is a description of the events leading to the demise of the Liberty Belle posted on the Liberty foundation web site  http://www.libertyfoundation.org/index.html

Kind of sad to know that they got it on the ground fully in tact and then had to watch it burn with the fire trucks looking on across the muddy fields.

Ulrich, the JU87 is my son's very favorite WW2 plane, he has become quite the war-bird buff over the years.   Here is a shot I tool last month at The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.   As I understand it, this is one of only two airframes to still survive?

I think the rain of the last 2 days is finally going to stop so that I can get out and cut the jungle that used to be my lawn!

Morning All,

Tried to post three tiimes yesterday and my computer would freeze up each time.Crying

When I walked out the door to go to w**k this morning at 0700 it was 80F and humid. High today is supposed to be 103F, very humid and probably no rain. tomorrrow I plan on spending the day stringing wire to termiinal strips up to the locations where the  tortoises will go.

Stan- Awesome art work. I look forward to the PRR art work.

Ulrich- I thhink the Stuka is a neat plane also. When I was a kid I had a gas powered one...at least until I dive bombed it into the ground. It didn't fly too well after that.

Good Morning,

Ken & Ray, I read an article that they had repaired a fuel leak in the Liberty Belle’s left wing and were on a flight to test the repairs.

Unless somebody else posted before I get done typing this.

Nothing day unless MOH gets called in to work again.

If it stays SUNNY and DRY We can put away the canopy and folding chairs-you knows those funky looking ones that fold into a 4 inch by 4 inch square about 3 feet long? THey got wet with rain. the canopy is for sun only NOT RAIN. SO it soaked through.

Tooth seems better. Seems I grind my teeth at night agrivating it.

Well that's all for now...later guys

Good Evening/Morning Friends!

Chloe, call off the dogs!!! It's ME!!!  Sam!  You know, the Locomotive Engineer from Virginia!?

Geez!  lol

Well, I have been meaning to get in here for the last several months, but the 1:1 always seems to get in the way...  Until I picked up a magazine and was reading the article. I see a picture and for some strange reason I know I know this person... Can't put my finger on where I know him from, though the article says he's from Georgia...  It's starting to get to me that I can't quite figure it out, until THAT "AHA" moment... It's Sawyer!!!!   I was floored!  Darn near scared my wife right off the road (she was driving the car, and I was a passenger, forgot to mention that one!)   Keep up the good work man!!!

Well, THAT got me to getting in here!  So here I am, hope all of you are doing well???!

I have been bouncing back and forth as Engineer and Conductor at work!  Just did a test train on the 13th new locomotive this past Saturday, and ran the Excursion train the saturday before, for the Manassas Railway Heritage Festival...  Both were very successful!

Well, looks as though I have a mountain of pages and bulletins to have to read through to get caught up on the day-to-day operations of this place, so I'll be in one of the corner booths!

Chloe, can I have my usual?  WHA-..  What do you mean "What is your usual?"???

Ok, I'll have the Breakfast Special and a Large RBF with the works, please? and Thank you!!!!

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

Evenin' folks!

Just a decaf for me, Janie.

Got a thank you note in the mail today from my granddaughter....  I think Mom wrote the note, but it sounded like part of it at least was dictated by Livy.  She even signed it.  Yep she can write her name now.  I saw her early afternoon as I had to stop by their house to get my hand cart back.  Need to load a small sound system to use for the Strawberry Festival at church tomorrow.  I decided to ride over with my son when he picked her up at "school" (a day care actually with an excellent learning program, run by the village where they live).

Did some odds and ends outside today.  Was hoping the lawn mower would be done...  No dice.  I won't be able to pick it up tomorrow if they get it done....

Ken, THAT is what I thought about the B-17s.  I figure something had to be very wrong to bring the old girl down.  Sad!  I know anything like that is well checked out before a flight as well.  Only planes I have ever flown in are a Cessna (4 seater), a couple commercial puddle jumpers, and (4) 747s.  I enjoyed the flights in the Cessna the best!

Hope all have a good night!  Prayers for all in need....

Good Morning!

Strong coffee, please, Zoe - nothing to eat yet, it´s too early!

Ken - it is only 5.30 am over here. I am up for an hour already, but feel like going to bed once more. The box is still awaiting customs clearance, that´ll take a few days. Boy, this is better than Christmas.

My favorite war bird is this one:

My great uncle flew one in those days.

Second on my list is this one:

In my younger days I built models of both.

CUL - I am going for a short morning nap.

 Evening Folks

Flo, I like 2 Bangers, Tender of Chips, what ever Simon is talking about and a Beer please.

Work Front Well the only good thing that came from today it was confirmed I made the $500.00 bonus for last month. I should have it by the end of the week and my commission check so I can make yet another over sizes house payment. Like it will help with Bank Of Stupid.

Ray From the pictures I saw of the Bell starting to burn, I am guessing it was a electrical fire. I looks to have started in the radio / navigation compartment just in front of the bomb bay. A B-17 can fly on one engine, heck they could fly darn near cut in half! If the old computer had not died I had pictures of the beatings the Fortress could take and bring back the boys alive. Libertine Bell was a B-17 G, you can tell by the chin turret.

My two favorite wars birds are the B-17 and the P-38. I have got to fly in both. You wondering how I flew in a P-38 with it being a single seat aircraft? There where some P-38's that where used for night reconnaissances. Had a rear seat installed for the photographer and the guns where removed and replaced with cameras.

Simon Work anymore with the Servo? Is it time for me buy one?

Ulrich Guess it is time for your breakfast and yet no word from you? With luck you are busy digging into your package. OH, beat you had a English Breakfast and you are Hugging the Porcelain Throne Blowing Chunks.  Smile, Wink & Grin

 See you all later.

            Ken

Today I've been working on the GP7 to GP9 project again. I filed off the dual fans behind the cab and the second set of dual fans on the back part of the long hood roof. I then drilled out a larger hole at each location and fitted in a fan to each hole. The photo below shows my progress thus far.

Simon, can you buy Marmite in your local grocery stores there? You can here so I guess it quite popular. I sometimes like it, sometimes not.

Hi Charlie, I guess with the CN prefix you must be north of the border?  I have noticed on trips to Canada that there are a few of my favorite Brit things available, like Marmite, HP Sauce and Twiglets.  I have never found Marmite in the US in anything other than the odd British grocery store.  There used to be one in Lebanon, Illinois about 10 miles from me, but it closed when the Welsh lady that ran it retired.   Your breakfast idea sounds good to me Dinner

Good Evening Fellow Diners,

It has been a while since I"ve been in but I have peeked in from time to time to see what is going on.

I did enjoy listening to the comments on the Brit breakie and I have something I think Simon and John might enjoy. It is my own creation and while I really like it , I only have a fond memory to sustain me as my wife forbids me to 'cook' it as she says it stinks up the house. Anyway, it goes like this, take a lightly toasted piece of bread, place on it kippered herrings ( I just use the tinned kind), on that put a layer of cheddar cheese and be sure it is at least a medium, preferably sharp. Then place it under the broiler, a toaster oven is good for this. I tell you it is really a breakfast treat. Smoky fish and cheddar all melted, yum, yum!!

Simon, can you buy Marmite in your local grocery stores there? You can here so I guess it quite popular. I sometimes like it, sometimes not.

No train stuff for a few weeks now. I need to build the underpass and place it as it has a double track consequently it is a piece that needs to be positioned early. I need to trace out the track plan and when I pick up the rest of my  track, I can proceed to lay it. I have elected to go with the WS trackbed fastened down with caulk but the track I will secure with Eileens tacky glue. I did a test using different methods and I liked the results best using that method.  I have been running a passenger train with a Mehano Hudson on the HO layout but only a few minutes here and there. I agree with Simon, the motor control with TCS decoders is really great. I have one in the Hudson mounted in front of the cab and a MRC sound decoder in the tender. That loco just creeps with really smooth control.

Well, my wife and I decided it was time to get a newer car so we made a deal on another Volvo. Not  a new one but a lot newer than the 2000 model we've been driving for the past 11 years. I think it still has a fair bit of life in it yet but it is our only vehicle and I wanted to get something newer before I retire while the cash flow is better. I won't be able to pick it up for a couple of weeks. Although they took the old one in trade it is still in the body shop and won't be done until at least the end of next week. Seems there was some hidden damage.

We had a really nice day here, about 80F but the rain is coming again, thanks Johnboy.

See you soon,

CN Charlie

Good afternoon. It's 95 and sunny.  We're expecting some clouds later.

Well, I went to see a doc in DeRidder this morning to get a casting made of the lower part of my right leg. This casting will be used to help build a special brace that will unload the weight on my ankle. But it's going to take time. The proposal for the work must first be reviewed and approved by MediCaid and as anyone who's worked with them can tell you that can take a while at the best of times. The bottom of the brace will have to be built up a bit as my right leg is two inches shorter than the left. The joys of degenerative bone problems. On the way back through Leesville I stooped at Lowe's and picked up a few items. Two half- pint cans of paint. Vintage Gray (Base 2  101-5.38  107-0.75  105-1.5), Parade Red (Base 4  101-0.25  113-0.25  115-21  116-15). I also got a new paint can opener as I tend to lose those on a regular basis and a new SAE 3/8 drive ratchet and socket set and a set of SAE hex key wrenches. I already have a lot of sockets, wrenches and hex key wrenches but they're ALL metric and most of them don't fit anything on my van and are therefore pretty much useless. I'm building up my collection of SAE tools bit by bit.

almost like having an administrative assistant, LOL

He's going to need the practice. He has a guaranteed job as a regional assistant administrator of a company that rebuilds heavy machinery, railroad locomotives among them when he finishes school. Sorry I can't give you the name of the company.
