Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Evening, BARRY-sized cheeseburger platter with a bucket of Coke please 'n thankya.

Welcome to the newest new guy(s) and welcome back Mr. Parks!

JEFF: I'm liking the GP7-2....or whatever you're calling THAT geep with the dash-2 cab. Ya know, it really doesn't look too bad on there. Better than some rebuilt SD40-3 locos I saw pictures of recently...don't remember who did it, NS maybe.

Busy day here: three hours at North Liberty (NOT) Fun Days. Took a picture of a little girl throwing darts at balloons. Dad says "he's not a girl, and his name is Nathan." OOOPS! EmbarrassedThe carnival worker thought it was a girl. I thought it was a girl. People I've shown the photo to say it's a girl.... Poor kid is gonna get stuffed in a lot of lockers, I think. Surprise

After THAT fun....at Fun Days no less....it was back to Muscatine for the Championship round of Class 3A Girls State Soccer action. My Iowa City West Women of Troy took on Ankeny. 0-0 after regulation play. 0-0 after two overtimes. Penalty kick shoot-out to decide it. 6-5 Ankeny in a heartbreaker. Crying

Now, I get to process/edit/prep the pics from both events, bang-out captions (and a game summary) so it is all good to go to deliver tomorrow morning to Boring Proofreader Dude. For those who may have forgotten, he's the replacement for Maggie the Creepy Proofreader.

On the plus side, the Wife is eagerly pursuing her Master of Lawnmower Operations certificate, having mowed the grounds of Stately Lucky Manor (located at the corner of Eighth and Ball) today.

Rerun is very proud of her...

Chris

***EDIT*** WHOOPS again! I see I got "top," so order up boys and girls... Rerun will bring the card in later to settle up.

Good Evening...

Welcome to all the newcomers here!!

JimRC: Well(not so wet subject)...they did find that my defibrillator did kick in..that was just after I passed out..no wonder my ankle was so bleeding sore!!Whistling..I did fall on it....

So, we had a relaxing day here by the looks of things. The neighbourhood yard sale went off without a hitch and garnered about $1,200 and some odd for the new park jungle gym that is getting built for the wee one's up here..

As for train time...megh..not so much....seems that there are a few honey dos that need doing ...again...grrrrGrumpy

Chloe, I'll just have my usual huge burger platter as well as a tub of RBF please....I'll be at the window booth...in the corner..with my back against the wall...

Evening guys

Got back from an ops session and got another bi-level autorack. This time it an ATSF one. I'm going to use the 36 citations on my 3 bi-levels (can't find enough of the F150s that went with the citations in sets) since I only have 1 tri-level. I'm going to use tacky glue to hold them in place. I took out an Atlas U33C and U30C (riding on U33C frame) and they both squealed in reverse. I figure the motor bearing needs oil, but I have to find my oil first. Remind me to clean my work bench tomorrow.

Also been dis-assembling the bunch of NKP GP18s (Duke, I don't think they ever worked with Berkshires, probably replaced them) so I can start making BN units out of them. Need to get fans and screens to convert them to GP9s (if they had DBs I probably would have painted them for BN). The lone GP9 in the lot will become a chop-nose GP5.

Garry, The citations weren't really hard, as much as time-consuming. For painting, I just split them into groups of 4, and used 9 different color spray cans I had laying around. So I have 4 each of red, yellow, dark blue, black, teal, dark green, almond, white, and light blue. I avoided using Ford colors. Finishing touched were using a silver sharpie on the bumpers and wheels.

BTW, I love that bridge scene.

David, Good to hear you made it out of Florida and to Lousiana alright.

Ken, you still intrested in the GP30s?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Well I had this SD40 cab laying around and I wondered how it would look on the GP7 which I'm converting into a quick and dirty GP9. It will still have the vents of the GP7 on the end of the long hood but the two vents under the cab have been removed. Now being the creative guy that I am I cut the front center out of the cab and cut out the part that housed the lights and number boards. Another test fit then I trimmed a 16th of an inch off the bottom of the cab. Almost there but the shell itself was interfering. The Bachmann shell is solid where the cab goes on with only a slight indentation. I cut that out and now the cab fits reasonably well. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a prototype out there somewhere.

Evenin' Folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me....  been eating way too much for most of the day today.

Chris, you aren't the only one THAT has been shooting photos today.....  I got a couple worth showing off I think...

Little girls all over the place at the party today....  In fact in the new generation on THAT family they are all girls except for this little guy who is just 2 weeks old!  Meet the newest kid in the extended family...  Aiden:

This one is my Grand Niece (one of several) who has completely stolen her Great Uncles heart!  She is just a sweetheart.  She is my BIL's (who passed away last summer) Granddaughter.

Oh, my granddaughter went completely wide eyed when Her dad and I took her over to Grandpa's truck and showed her her very own John Deere Tractor.  She had to promise Grandpa she would be very careful and only use it when Mom, Dad, or the grandparents were right with her....  She got on and pushed the pedal like I told her to and darn near fainted when it took off....  Then we worked on how to steer for a bit.  She got the idea very quickly and got to drive around to the back of the house to show everyone.  Here she is with her old Grand dad...

Now, I remember some wise cracks about people with an MBA???  Like most things there some that are great and some that are, ah....... not so great....  Yep, THAT is the best way to describe it...  My #2 son has got one from the U of Chicago!  I've heard he is a great guy to work for (mostly from him and my own prejudice).  He got promoted a few weeks ago and his first task was to fire 7 people....  Not something he enjoyed at all...  Downsizing in his dept.  Which is why he got "promoted".  Now doing his old job and another guys job as well.  My son the guy with the MBA, published poet, Breadloaf Scholar and presenter, and the Director of Communications, Education and Public Affairs at Argonne National Labs.  When He was working on the degree he told me about a course he had to take, and I replied, "Oh the one where you learn to  $*@&# the employees."  He came back with all the corporate crap about having to keep things in control as to expenses so that the little people can have a job... Blah, blah, blah....  About a month later we talked again and he told me, "Dad, remember what you said about the course I'm taking?  Guess what, you hit it right on the head!  That is exactly what the course is....." I think he has kept his brains, and morals, and ethics with him even now.  Good kid!  I'm proud of him.  If any of you saw the Jeopardy Shows that have had the Video Questions about Argonne Labs...  He was the person responsible for getting them done and on Jeopardy.

Hope you all have a good evening!

I've been working on converting this GP7 into something resembling a GP9 with a couple of added attractions

 Morning Fellow Dinners!

Flo, something real soft and a Diet Dew.

Be True To Your Teeth Or They Will False To You! Never truer words spoken. What Soupy Sails left out was "They May All So Try To Kill You". Yesterday was the second worst pain I have ever had, the worst was a cracked Wisdom Tooth.

By 4:00 PM yesterday I was all most out of my mind with pain. I took a 5 / 500 Vicodin and had about 30 minutes of some relief than the pain was back in full forces. While the cracked Wisdom Tooth pain was worst, the Vicodin stopped the pain. Not this time around! Dead

By 5:00 PM I was I was going desperate from the Pain! Wife and I went to Anderson Hospital Immediate Care Facility, I had to do something. Just as the Doctor came in, Sues Cell Phone Rang. It was my Dentist finally!

Made a Bee Line to Wall Greens for the antibiotics and fresh Vicodin, I was hopping the other Vicodin had lost it strength with it being 2 years old. Took the Fresh Vicodin and the same thing. Had a little relief for 30 minutes and then the pain was back on a full court press! Remember this was the second 500 milligram Vicodin with in 3 HOURS and I was still in pain!

Guessing it was around 7:30 PM my wife split a Vicodin and gave me 1/2 of it. I have now had 1250 Milligrams with in 4 and a half hours. Finally the pain just became a dull ache and I was able to fall to sleep. Woke up at 2:00 AM, took another antibiotic and Vicodin and there was No Pain at last.

Got up at 5:30 AM and I was still tired but could not fall back to sleep. Went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. Ick! Entire left side of my faces has swelled up to my eye socket! If I look down with my left eye, I can see my check!

But thank goodness there still is no pain! Big Smile Shaun is going to run the store today, so I have the day off. From what he told me I did not miss anything Saturday, only $1860.00 in sales. Split two ways $930.00 was not going to help my cause any. May drop my work today anyway, to keep in company and jam a little.

Packer I am still interested in the engines, but need to see what the Dentist bill is going to run first.

 See you all later today.

May have to wait longer than that Simon, need to have the swelling gone first. It is swelled more in the last hour or so. Left eye is now watering. But the pain is still being held at bay.

I just like to be able to eat today. Yesterday all I had was 2 eggo waffles and a bowl of mushroom soup. It was more that I did not want to eat than couldn't.

Hum, did not see Ulrich post? Hope he is doing all right. Package # 2 hit Chicago yesterday.

 Time for a nap. Zzz

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have the #2 special this morning since it is Sunday...  Over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries and sour dough toast along with lots of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  Please and Thank You!  I'll hang out in the front booth and watch the pouring rain outside....  Drought over!  We had 4 days with no rain!!  record for this Spring.

Ken, Ouch!  My head hurts just thinking about it.  If the swelling doesn't start coming down soon, get yourself back over to the Emergency Room!  Hope you get better quick.....

Have to be present at Church today for Pentecost...  We will be officially accepting the class of Confirmands into the church today.  I will be standing with the young man who I was partnered with for this year.  I have known him since he was born and I am friends with his parents as well.  I 'm honored to be his adult sponsor!

Last night after sunset I began to to notice a sweet aroma wafting through the house.....  my Night Blooming Cereus had one blossom open.  I'll post a photo later today.  Should be one more blossom tonight.  This is a plant I was given as a cutting 41 years ago by a wonderful 4th. grade teacher at Elm Street School my second year of teaching.  One Tuesday Morning (Only spent the entire day at that building on Tuesday) one of her students cam to my room and said, "Mr. Howard, Mrs Canavino wants to show you something in her room."  I went down and saw a bloom from her huge Cereus she had on the counter by her windows.  It is rare to have a blossom still open by morning and she was excited about showing her class and others what they look like.  This scraggly looking plant has made 6 moves since I got it, plus was frost bitten badly when it had to be put outside on a friends enclosed porch the spring my wife was getting chemo...  it has come back from the brink and once again provides me many flowers a year to enjoy.

Best get a move on...

Good morning,

Took my Girlfriend out shopping last night for her birthday, early since her birthday is June 21st .  She got a new Toshiba Laptop with a i5 processor and 4GB of ram and an all in one HP printer.  I had bought the printer about 4 months ago and hid it.  Anyway she is very happy and I might get to continue my MRR projects today.  My computer store credit card is in agony this morning, but I get 6 months same as cash on everything I buy.

Right now it’s 61F at 88% Humidity here.  The current guess is T-storms for Thursday though Tuesday.

I received an email from my basement local hobby store late last night that my big combined order came in and is ready to pick up Monday right after work.   6 of us put in a $130-$150 order and it only cost us $93; 24 pairs of Kadee Couplers, 7 big shakers of WS ground cover, a barn, and a silo.

Last night I sanded and painted the port area, I tried something different: I wanted the area with the dock cranes to have all the rails subdued in concrete so the forklifts would have easy access between the dock, cranes, warehouse, and spurs.  I basically flooded the area with plaster of Paris and sanded it down.  Then I used a gasket scraper to remove the plaster from the inside of the rails.  The test car rolled through the area without any problems last night.

Ken: I hope you get that tooth seen too as soon as possible. I have one that used to give me occasional grief but stopped bugging me late last year. I'm pretty sure the nerves in it are dead. Someday when I have the money for it I'll likely have it pulled.

Good morning. It's 74° and sunny. The high will be 96° and it will be partly cloudy.

Work continues today in the Sundown shops on a GP7 that looks like it's been on a wild ride through a scrap yard. I'm slowly converting it to something that resembles a GP9. In the two photos below you can readily see the differences. The bottom photo is of an unmodified GP7. Both units have been refitted with Digitrax DZ125 decoders.

I'm also working on a GP38-2. I've added a little touch of originality to it by putting in a dynamic brake housing from an Athearn SD40. This unit has a Digitrax DZ125 decoder (motor control) piggy-backed on a Bachmann decoder (light control as the DZ125's light functions don't work). A strange setup but it works.

Good Afternoon,

could not drop by, as I had a few bad days. Petra took me to the ER, where they wired me up. My usual case of arrhythmia, a little worse, though. I am fine now.

Ken - better take care of that tooth. A bad tooth can cause a lot more problems than just pain.

Back to the sofa. Will be watching the idiot box - a show called "On Little Rails", our monthly MRRing feature.

Have a good one.

A special prayer candle is up for you Ulrich!!!

ANother covers Ken and all the rest who need special thoughts and prayers!!!

Well looking at a MMRing space with a house over it tonight! CAn't wait. It is not in the town or county we wanted, but holds promise!! The only thing is it is a foreclosure by Bank Of Stupid {as KEN calls it} Bank of America.

Expecting everything probably tore out of it, but hopefully intact except appliances is what we hope for. WE could even have $20K for electrical upgrades and appliances. Of course we could take appliances formt eh trailer, but I think it will sell better with the appliances in it. We will take the roll-away dishwasher however!.

Wll got my AM shopping at Wally world done. Amazing how many people also have the same idea!!! Used to be I was about the only one in the store at 8 AM. Now it is hard to find a handicapped spot as many rush there. Decided NOT to wait at the deli...4 people ahead of me and very slow as only ONE person on. ALways is slow, but  he was also chatty-cathy-ing the woman and kid he was waiting on so he obviously knew htem!

WEll, I got some clean up to do after the BBQ yesterday. A good time was had by all!

If anybody actually reads this, I'd be surprised.

Good Morning!! Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast Buffet please. Huh? Oh yes, yes! Dark Roast. Thank you. Wow, fully stocked. Odd no one had the buffet by now. What’s wrong with it?

Worked a little on the as of yet unprototypical land formation yesterday. I got some plaster dug out to set the bridge and applied more drywall mud over the plaster cloth. I also started working on the interior of the rear observation car to be the Diner. Today, if I’m allowed I hope to get back down there and do some more. Big Smile

David- Don’t blame you at all for liking the small towns and rural settings more than the cities. I lived on the edge of Springfield (Illinoyz) for about 5 years after I moved out. That’s all I could take. Moved back home. Well, not exactly, I lived in the Township but moved into Williamsville proper. I admit  I do like the conveniences of living in town.

Wife is really not too upset about my old "home" not selling. I think she is hoping I'll throw up my hands and say "fine! We'll see if we can afford it" Ain't happen'n. Hmm Would have it's advantages... No.

Simon- That is great! I hope I live that long and am as healthy and able to get around just as well. I have big plans for my 90’s. Looks like Garry’s unit behind your 0-6-0.

Jeff- On thing about Sundown, they have pay phonesThumbs Up. No pressure washers, but they have payphonesLaugh.

Chris- Maybe Dad just wanted a boy and “Nathan” is……let’s say…, confused right nowWhistling.

Now wait a minute G, Bill is like my alarm clock here. Marks the start of a new day here in the diner. Makes it easy for me to know what day I’m on.

Ken- Ouch! Hope the tooth gets taken care of soon. (though Eggo’s and Mushroom soup sound pretty good to me) I was thinking the same thing about Ulrich. Not like him to at least not pop in and say hey. Hope he didn’t have to dash off to his parents for an emergency.

Oh there he is. Glad you're ok (sort of) Ulrich.

Galaxy- Though I didn’t read your last postWink, for some reason I have this strong urge to wish you luck on the new prospect for a layout room with benefits tonight. Hope all is well and do able with this one.(fingers crossed)

Well today the guy across the street wants to borrow my lawnmower. His is in the shop. I'm kinda nervous, he's on his third mower. I’m leaning toward just got bad mowers, but then again…. 3? In a row? Different brands? What can you do to a lawnmower really to need 3 in the last what, 7-8 years? Or however long they’ve lived there.

Anywho, I must mow myself and sharpen the blades on the tractor (which I elected to play in the train room as opposed to sharpen them yesterdayEmbarrassed. Shhh! Don’t tell Brenda), Then I will head to Menard’s to get some PVC pipe for to start the window well drain project. Unexpected gas line pipe showed up after the JULIE dude was here. Back in the early eighties when the gas company ran a line down the township road off the county blacktop (the house is on a corner), they charged people a hook up fee and other stuff to offset the cost of laying the pipe. Odd considering the benefit the company would have by adding customers, but that’s what happened. Anyway, on Mom’s house the pipe comes off the County road and ell’s to the meter, instead of a straight shot to the township road. Seems to me they shouldn’t have had to pay to lay the pipe since they obviously didn’t use it. Too late now.

On second thought, maybe I will see about a refund…Hmm..with interest.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Todd, I have decided a utility company can do anything they want and get away with it.  My electric company still wants to sell me two 60w compact florescent bulbs for $30, I’m not having anything to do with it.  If I’m forced into it I’ll just write them a check with something inappropriate in the memo line.

Ulrich, I hope you feel better, until then relax..

Ken, don’t let the tooth issue linger it will just get worse and cost more to fix.

 I Love Vicodin! Thumbs Up

Flo, around of Vicodin for the dinner! Smile, Wink & Grin Just kidding, but I will pick up the Beer but none for me.

Far as going to the ER, I don't think it is warranted at this point. I think all they could do is give me antibiotic and I am all ready on them now.

I know I am not feel right, because I did some Switching on the Mountain today. My little Proto SW 9 did impress me. It was able to push 8 over weighted mine cars up a 2% grade at a slow 9 mph with no problem.

I do plan on working Monday at this point. I will be calling the Dentist Monday and setting up my appointment.

 See you all later

KEN: That tooth problem sounds bad. Good luck with it.

JEFF: I like the work you are doing on the locos. The sd40 cab on the gp7 I understand but why 2 DB fans on the gp38?

Barry ... I went back and read about what you said about your heart. I sounds like your device may have saved you. If so, you're living on extra days because of you implanted device. I am thankful for you.

Ulrich ... I am concerned about your situation. I think you must have your heart rhythm controlled. As I posted to Barry, I am glad his heart device saved him. I wonder why your doctors are not talking to you about an implanted device. Also, there are medications to regulate rhythm. I hope your doctors have that managed correctly for you. As I have said, my device definitely saved my life. That way, I may continue bothering people here in the diner.

Jeff, .... Good to see Sundown Shops latest work. I recall at the Grand Trunk, there were several re-built GP9's with newer style angular cabs like that. However, they also had low noses. The rebuilt GP9's looked like GP38's in the front with the rest looking like GP9's.  The work was done in the Battle Creek locomotive shops next door to Kellogg's Cereal. Originally, those GP9's were long-end forward, but this was reversed with the rebuilding.

Goooooooooooooooooooood afternoon,

Well (generally wet subject), a do-nothing kinda day...so don't know what to do!

TODD: Yeah, I think you might be on to something. I'm wondering if "Nathan" is a girl who "wants" to be a boy...or is a boy who "wants" to be a girl. Something's goofy there either way. I didn't think to look for the Adam's apple...didn't think I'd need to! I've always figured if anybody has any question which gender they are, they need only take a peek inside their britchesWhistling I was able to select a photo where he/she/it doesn't make the viewer question what they see vs. what the caption says. I still expect a call or e-mail from THAT Editor tomorrow asking me to double-check my notes. "Why does THAT girl have a boy's name?" We shall see, we shall see..........

KEN: Be careful, "the Viking" has been known to plunder and pillage those who utilize his services! Unless you can get in to see the dentist very much soonly...I'd second the notion to get thee to the ER. If you're swelled up THAT bad, they might be able to...drain...the infected area. THAT "should" bring almost immediate relief! The procedure won't be pleasant, and will be rather...gross...but I think you'd be better off when they're done!

Not much else to blather on about, so will yield the floor....

JEFF: I like the work you are doing on the locos. The sd40 cab on the gp7 I understand but why 2 DB fans on the gp38?

Simple answer: Because I can. Better answer: I wanted something original and unique.

Garry: I knew there had to be an angled cab prototype out there somewhere. I thought about cutting the nose down but the way the frame/weight is made precludes any easy way of doing that. I did more work on the loco this morning. I cut out the small dynamic brake fan and shoe horned in a bigger one from the scrapped SD40.

It's hot in ole Lou-zee-anner. One fans good...., two fans better.

Haven't made it away from the ranch yet. I need to get going soon or I'll laze out and not get my suppies for the groundbreaking tomorrow. Or so I hope the weather allows it.

Cleaned out the cab of the truck. I'd forgotten there was a passenger seat over there. Pretty good find as far as I'm concerned ( runs thumbs down the straps of overalls). Also the plus being that the sh..Zip it!...cr..Hmm..stuff, wasn't piled neeear as high as I thought it was.

Lawn mower still working across the street. Nothing runs like a Deere.Yes

Lee- Shortly after the CFL's came out strong, our power company sent us a deal we just couldn't refuse. According to them. We could get 10 CFL's for $25. Yup, that's right, just two fity a bulb. Now, after you get over the shock of such a deal, let me add that the shipping would be $10 and they just had to do that because of the deal they were giving on the bulbs. PLUS, and here's the icing, for another $10, they would send a box to put the burned out ones in for recycling. Just add postage when it's done and mail them away. Man I tell you what, I was in awe of the way they were taking care of me. Unfortunately, I found Walmart would take care of me better. About a buck a bulb. Of course I have to pay tax, but I'll blow the extra 8% to help out the states purchase of......whatever they buy. Oh, they did send a couple "complimentary" bulbs. A 60w and 100w (equivalent). I think the 60w lasted about a month and the 100 maybe a couple weeks. NOT good examples. Needless to say........

Brenda just asked if I was still going into town, that either means "get moving you slow moving pile of goo" (her pet lovey dovey name for me I think. EmbarrassedAfter all these years we're still in love) or, she wants to go cause she's hungry.

Best get moving. So's I can get back for a Beer and some odelling. (ahem) Modeling

Jeff:  I think the closest I've come to seeing anything like that were these fellows...

GP9u's ...Tillsonburg Turn...going southbound on CP main through Woodstock yard....

For angled roofing...as for the fans..you could claim that the engine ran hot...
