Good Morning!! Cup of dark roast and some English muffins with real butter aaaaand….., oh just bring a sampling of jam flavors. Can’t decide.

Dodged the bullet again! Actually, machine gun fire. After we spoke yesterday morning for all the green that was on the radar over us, and all the yellow and red that was taking aim at us, we only received about and additional ½ inch and nothing you'd call severe. That makes the rain total from night before last, all day yesterday and last night.., an inch. Not complaining. Luckily the nasty stuff zeroed in and then at the last second changed it’s mind and pulled off or just disappeared. Figure God just didn’t feel like it this time. I for one, appreciate it.Angel

Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 59. I could freeze.

Water was coming in the window well at mom’s house last night, so it looks like I’ll have to replace the window and run a drain out of said window well to the ditch. We keep this house much longer and it could start costing more than this old boy can afford to maintain.

Jeff- Mobile Homes are looking good!

Johnboy- WOW! That was a lot of trailers. That also is the future way of cross country truck transport and fuel costs. Load the trailer somewhere on the East Coastish area, put it on the rails to Colorado or California or wherever, pick up some along the way, drop trailers along the way like bread crumbs, pick it up with the truck, no unloading, no re loading, no handling of cargo at all. But fuel and labor (driver) saving for….how many trucks over how many miles? I see it start to catch on more and more until it'll be as common to see the trailer cars as it is to see a hopper.

Welp, I have no idea what I’m gonna get involved in today, but I’m pretty sure it won’t involve processed canned nacho cheese sauce and electric fencing. Bad combo I would think. Buuuut, according to the ”future radar” courtesy The Weather Channel DOT com, after this drizzle leaves in an hour or less, we should be in the clear for rain until about oh say 11:30. Then just a little rain for a brief time. So, I may work on the tractor. No I haven’t fixed it yet, other things keep popping up. Should go to Mom’s and check the basement, then may go to Menard’s and look at basement windows. May wait for tomorrow for that. Never know with me.

One thing about me, I’m cheap.... if you don’t mind the wait.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Morning all

Feeling better today, and to borrow Todd's phrase, if anybody cares.

Going to the insurance man to change the house insurance over to his company. It won't really save us any money, unless they further discount the auto insurance now but we will have better coverage. ANd that can be important. The home-owners insurance will cost us double what we pay now., Because its a mobile home, the old insurance will only insur us against loss by "finding a similar year and size trailer" as that that was lost. THe new Insurance will take into account that the newest cheapest replacement will cost about $39K, and with slab and set and fees and all that could cost up to $50k delivered to move-in condition. It was my understanding that the park shoudl be paying for the slab, but I won't argue. Our home is valued at about $8K, and a new one {which we would want} will cost at least the $39K for a 3/1.

We will do grocery shopping too. Need to. Need spring water bottles for me and tonic water for MOH. The tonic water helps keep joint pain and leg twitching down for those that suffer due to the quinine in it. Just a helpful hint. I can't use those fancy {expensive} water pitchers that supposedly filter the water as I can still taste teh chlorine which makes me nauseas and will cause me to vomit if i drink enough and i drink a LOT of water. also buying AL-U-MIN-E-UM {the "correct way to pronounce "aluminum" HAHA for use ont eh grill if I get her cleaned up and used for BBQ.

Wow its 73 in here already. TIme to turn on the A/c it ran all day yesterday as got to 85 according to our outdoor thermometer. But that IS protected by the proch wihch is sealed off with plastic covering.

Don't like the houses or prices we have been getting lately from the automated listings sender from the agent. SO no house hunting today. One house has been on market for 200 days and has not sold, FINALLY "reduced" thier price by a whole $1000.00. Whoopie! Bring out the baloons and funnel cakes to celebreate!. Is on a slab with electric heat!! no room for a layout and electric heat is "only" $165/mo budget!. Whoopie! Don't expect to find one this summer as I said, they went UP in price for prime selling season.

Well I leave you all to your own devices {dangerous I know} but have a great day!

Morning, all. Flo, the belt's feeling a tighter today, so I'll go back to the lo-carb non-fat pancakes & eggs please.

Weather was fun last night. We had storms a-poppin' all around, and each one, when it appeared, had just a little bit of spin to it, which prompted yet another tornado warning. The tornado siren operator here in the city was apparently being paid by the activation, because they went off literally every 20-30 minutes for about five hours last night. And of course the local TV stations, in Full Severe Weather Serious Face Mode, were only too eager to show each little spin-up on their NextGen Accuvision SuperViper Doppler1800 radar. Made for an oddly entertaining night of television viewing. We got one episode of about quarter-sized hail at our house, and that was it. There were no actual confirmed tornadoes in Indy or any directly adjoining counties that I'm aware of.

Of course that all meant no train time again last night.

I'd like to hear how Ken & Simon fared yesterday.

later

Hi guys,

Haven't been in here much lately. Momma's "Honey Do" list keeps growing so time with the trains is very limited. I wish we would get some rain soon.we've had only a 1/4" of rain since January 25th. It's so dry here in southeast Texas that my yard is getting gaping cracks in the soil. Trying to keep the foundation wet is getting to be an everyday chore.

Been working on a Walther's power plant kit and decided that it would look good with trains running under it.  I scratch built a huge support column with evergreen styrene I-beam and have built jigs and poured a bunch of plaster retaining walls to fit  around the structure so that it is above the rails. I just completed a jig to make tunnel portals and should be able to make the first pour tonight after work.         Have a great Memorial Day and remember those who have fallen on the battlefield in the name of freedom.....chuck

Good morning. It's 75 and sunny. That high will be 84 and there's a 50% chance of rain this morning tapering off to 20-30% this afternoon.

Not much to report this morning. Yesterdays 'big' storm went by to the north of us so no rain or wind though we did get some brief power outages. The 'on, off then back on' sort of thing. At least I did get the trailers painted. Today I might get to the east side of the layout and get some trees put down.

Mornin' everyone!  (Mornin' Bill!)

THAT Biil....  Such a blabermouth! Whistling  Good to see you anyway!

Zoe, I'll have the Eggs Benedict with sour dough toast, and lots of dark roast coffee in the FGLK Mug this morning.

Might get some time today to check and see if the Model Railroad is still down cellar here at my house....  been a very hectic week.  The weather people are calling for a hig in the low to mid 80's today and the thermometer is already up to 74...  may have to start the air conditioner in a while.

Hope everyone stayed safe from THAT line of storms moving to the North East last night.  What we were in line for evidently moved North of here, but they are calling for some Severe Thunderboomers with high winds and hail today.  Hopefully nothing like what has been hitting so many other parts of the country.

Have a good one!

Afternoon, Zoe - I'll have a BLT and a RBF, please 'n' thank you!.

Chris, up your way I *expect* there to be some of those rotatin' cloud thingees. Glad that you didn't get any too close to either your place or THAT editor's place (so your checks don't stop comin').

I see that Bill T.'s his usual chatty self today. Howdy, Bill! Cowboy

Ken, your question about your store reminded me of the most important question for a MRR'er AFTER the nasty storm passes through: "Is the LHS still standing?" And, you know that the *next* most important question is: "Did any of my incoming MRR shipments (such as from de Bay or heading TO my LHS) get sucked up into one of those whirly-things? No? Okay, no problem!" Smile, Wink & Grin

Jeff, you're absolutely right about those paint schemes on some mobile homes. Of course, when I was about in junior high school, the neighbor's house next door (in our subdivision) - which had been a robin's egg blue color - get repainted to a pink color. In our family, the standing chuckle was "Guess the neighbor's wife just had another girl and the balance of guys vs. gals in the house changed over". Whistling Never heard if that was really why they painted it over to pink, though...

Todd, so long as your Mom's house doesn't start to resemble "The Money Pit". Surprise

So far, sounds like about all of our Diners have dodged the 'machine gun', as Todd called it. Stay safe, those of you to our east. Yeah

All this talk about various windstorms reminded me of one builder about 30 miles south of Cape. THAT builder (whose model home was located within viewing distance of a highway) build homes that were pretty much all made out of concrete blocks. Don't recall if he advertised them as being 'tornado-proof' or not. Gee, this year would've been a good year for him to run TV ads, alongside of our local weatherguessers (who have been hammering the 'weather radios' (which I think the station must get some commission on sales from the local farm & hardware store that's selling them).

Wonder how long until Ulrich's anesthesia wears off enough for him to swing by the Diner via his WiFi connection at the hospital? Keeping you in mind, buddy. AngelAngel

I'll sit a spell at the window booth and watch the birdees get blown around by the wind...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

We have received a couple of inches of above normal rainfall the last couple of months. Mostly delivered by thunderstorms with lots of lightning. Strangely, no power outages. But I dodged the bullet last night. No storms, no rain, just a humid, sticky night. Sitting in my office in the dark using my laptop via an external monitor and keyboard, when BOOM from the area where the laptop sits. Everything goes down. Check the room lights, nope. But the lights in the bedroom and the bathroom are okay. So down to the cellar to check the circuit breakers. Sure enough, that circuit popped. So I reset it and stared up the stairs when all the power went off. The whole neighborhood was out so I went to bed. Figured my laptop was history. I woke up around 3:00 and checked it. Whew, everything is good.

After we had breakfast this morning at our favorite diner, we ran errands until about noon. The wife sat down to watch the news after we got home, and oh oh, no power in our 48" hdtv, cable box ot DVD player. I can't begin to tell you the panic I had thinking about replacement costs for those guys. However, after a little trouble shooting, it turns out the surge protector was fried. I don't need to tell anyone how fast I went out to Best Buy for a replacement. Funny thing was the breaker never tripped for that circuit. I can tell you one thing, I will only buy the best surge protector I can get from now on.

I spent a bit of time working in the layout room getting a few buildings put together for Eric's layout..hopefully they will work there...

A good surge protector is worth it's weight in gold. I have a whole house unit plus infinite capacity surge protectors on every line. My trailer is also very well grounded and the metal skin literally acts as a Faraday cage. It's taken several strikes and I haven't lost anything except a little paint. One of the strikes blew up the meter and the service transformer.

Howdy.

I'm thinking of Ulrich. Hope his surgery went well.

Finally reached somebody back home where storms hit last night. No power where I live now. Our house is OK. Next door house was damaged by large tree that fell on it. Numerous other houses in area were hit by falling trees. Local lumber yard roof partly torn off. Numerous buildings damaged in town.

Still in AL, but will most likely go home tomorrow.

Hope all diners are doing fine.

I heard over 500 people have been killed by tornados this year. I'm seeing some damage in AL for the storm of last month.

Evening all,

I have about 1 more hour at w**k today then I am off until Monday. The good thing about working Monday is the holiday pay.  I guess when I get home I will do my laundry. Tomorrow I have my errands to run for my layout. Going to the LHS is always enjoyable.

The darn critters woke me up at 0500 today after 4 hours of sleep by scratching at the closet doors. I was not happy. If I had got out of bed I probably would have throttled them.

I have been looking in today to see if there was anything about Ulrich. I continue to wing prayers to him for a speedy recovery.

I will try to check in later. Everyone have a good night.

 Evening Folks!

 Flo, a beer please.

LHS is still standing! Big Smile Went buy and bought some more items for Ulrich. This package should keep him busy for awhile! It will have the following.

 4 Number 4 Kato Turnouts

1 Bag of Bush Pine Trees

4 Kato switches to control the turnouts

1 Bag of Medium gray Talus

1 Bag of light gray small Talus

1 Bottle of Woodland Realistic Water

1 Big Bag of Bushes yet to received, will be in next week.

I want to thank all the Mail Box Buddy's with out your help, this would have never have happen! If anyone wants to become a Mail Box Buddy send me a conversation. There is a Steamer I know Ulrich would be tickled with.

Train Front and Simon 1966! BowThank you Simon! He came over and resat the DB 150, cleaned the DH 400 throttle and got the PR 3 working on the new computer. I am so blessed to have Simon 1966 living so close by!

He thinks he knows why my system got messed up besides the fact I own it. Last time he was over was the first time we ran 3 throttles on the system at the same time. All my UP 5's are powered off the daisy chain telephone cables which is fine for 1 or 2 throttles. But, with 3 that may have been pushing it and that why all the goofy stuffed happen. So if I ever have 3 operators over again, I will hook up my PS 14 power supply. (have it to power the PR 3)

We are so lucky there are such great folks here at the dinner.

See you all Friday!

Not a problem Ken,

Here is a summary of what I believe have been the issues:

  1. The DB150 needed a full reset, which we did.
  2. I don't think that smoke residue on connectors on the DB150 and the throttle is helping, so used some electronics contact cleaner to improve connection.
  3. Also cleaned some of the connections inside the throttle.
  4. A loco was inadvertently in a consist and had to be removed.
  5. The PR3 was not configured to the correct COM port in Decoder Pro
  6. We had 3 throttles, none with batteries installed connected to unpowered daisy chained UP5 panels.  I remember that there are limits to this but not sure what they are.  Will do some research into this and report back.  It might have been a contributing factor last week.

Anyway, glad you are back up and running.  It is the least I can do given the help you give to others.

Jeff- The last two were the power company's problems right?

The service transformer was. I had to pay for a meter installation when it was replaced because everything from the weather head down is 'mine' according to them. I think that's BS but it was either pay or it didn't get replaced. But that was 12 years ago.

Evening all, just a quick note before bed.  The front that caused the tornadoes in the mid-west passed through here this evening.  Some funnel clouds were spotted in nearby communities but nothing here except severe thunderstorms.  Haven't heard anything about damages yet.  Hope it wasn't too bad if there is any.

Ulrich, hope the surgery went well.  You take care of so many others, now take care of yourself.

Ken, check out the DCC section of the forum, I posted the question about the limits of using Loconet without panel power and batteries and it looks like it was part of the problem on that day.

Morning all,

boy oh boy did we have thunderboomers Storm Umbrella last night! A LOT of people are still without Idea. We had 4 "blinks" but no outage. It was the Storm that plagued the midwest moving though our area. Some schools have closed due to impassable roads as trees were down. No reports of tornadoes yet, though we are not in "tornado alley" we have been known to get them and they do do damage. May RAY has some news from up his way.

Well, today is a busy day. Hafta do my financial runs today to pay for my Medicaid coverage and other bills. Hafta get scripts form CVS and stuff. I will be in and out all day.

MOH has a long day starting in Floral then to front end to paly cashier until 6 tonight. We need the hours and money though.

Drove by a possible house prospect. Only prob is it's nice 2 Br 1 Ba ranch witha  1 car garage, but the lot is short and house too close to road so as parking a second car in drive would block sidewalk and that is illegal. Drive very short. There were other houses in the same neighborhood that we drove by for sale, but since we didn't recognioze them, they are out of our price league too. Most still had postage stamp sized front yards, though you could tandem park a second car in drive and one in garage without blocking sidewalk. SO the search continues.

Well, I suppose I better get my lotissimus in gear adn get it out of here to start on errands.....

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Morning All,

Sitting here to check if anyone has heard from Ulrich yet. Today I will  be going to LHS and RS to get materials to finally start installation of the Tortoises. My son said he wanted to come along to look at paint. He does costuming for Sci-Fi movies and is a modeling group. His main focus is the colonial marines from the movie Alien. He actually does very good work.

Ken and Simon- That is good info to know about Digitrax panels and throttles. I have power supplies on my 3 panels so this should not affect me.

Everyone take care.

Good Morning!! Just coffee please. Thanks.

Partly sunny, with a high near 68. Tonight we have a 40% chance of showers and T-storms.

Chuck- Good to see you in here. Feel free to post pictures of your power plant.

Jim- No I wouldn’t say money pit, but in addition to the taxes and the utilities and of course the mowing, there are always little things in a 39 year old house that one day need some fixin. But like anything, it can turn into a money pit if let alone long enough.

Garry- Glad to hear the preliminary reports on storm damage to your house are good. Hope they stay that way when you take the official look see.

Jeff- I think you’re right. Ask the Power company if you get to take the meter with you when you leave. The box and all yes I can see that, but if the transformer blew and that caused it….wait. I forgot. There is virtually no instance in which it is the power companies fault for any electrical problem.

Best get a movin if’n I want to get anything done today before w**k.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!
