My prayers go out to the people of Joplin, who lost a loved one or a home in the wake of the tornado. I saw pictures of the damage on TV. Not a good year so far.

Good Morning,

Tornado in Cleveland last night on the SW side of town, several people without power. There are trees, lawn furniture, and BBQ grills everywhere.  The drumming sounds of chainsaws hang thick in the morning air.  Glad I live on the NE side of town.

Check this out: http://free-mo.org/ Modular system

Curt you can make a continuity tester with an old flashlight and 2 solid copper wires.

Ulrich, nice bridge!

Attaboy, please refrain from putting the eviction notice in the birthday card, it sounds good at the time, but it would be cruel and….Oh what the heck, go have some fun….

Ray, we have had so much rain here (about .66” every 48 hours) you can see water and grass shoot out the side.  I wear boots and a lifejacket while cutting the grass.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a Bankroll please. Oops, I meant sweet roll. Thank you.

A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 81

Showing the house today at 1:30 (1330 for some of you) Hope this is a good sign, it’s somebody who has been through it before earlier. This time their realtor asked ours for all the disclosures and if we knew if the house was haunted or infested with werewolves. I’m sticking with “no” on the last oneWhistling. The first is just too silly to reply.

Lee- glad the twister missed you. Hope all are well on the SW side.

I’m not real big on cards( I add that in case no one has noticed) but if it were me, Lee’s idea just might push me to buy one this time. No, that’s just mean. FUNNY but mean.

Sure are a lot of companies making things for model railroads considering it’s a dying hobby. HmHmm, speaking of that, isn't it about time for another “MRR doomsday" thread?

Today? Gotta w**k. Other’enat (local more efficient word meaning “other than that”) I should join Ray on the lawn, and I just may. I also should see about getting the pressure washer going and get back on the tractor project which I have yet to return to.

Ya see, I’m getting sidetracked here with scanning all the old family photos Mom had so’s my Niece can go through and take what she wants, then my sister, then me. Now I’m not real big on the actual photo itself, so a scanned one is fine by me. My Niece said scan what I want, then she’ll go through them etc. She is to come up this Friday I believe and, of course, I’m running behind. SurpriseImagine that. Me, running behind. In my defense however, there are a ton of photos to go through. A ton.

But first, before the grocery truck gets here, I may just sneak down in the train room. I need an alarm clock so I don’t lose track of time. Or maybe I should scan some more.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Morning, all. Sounds like another rough weather day shaping up out in the Plains today. Waht a crazy crazy spring this has been. Wow. We had a storm roll through our area last night - got a few gusts but nothing too bad.

The whole week is supposed to be wet here in central Indiana. Kind of tough on those guys over on the west side of town - they try to have this big race out there about this time every year. In years past, guys had the entire month of May to practice - this year, because of a shortened schedule and bad weather, they had to qualify with just two days of practice, and may not have much time this week to work on their race setups because of the rain. Could make for an interesting time at the Speedway this Sunday afternoon.

No train time again last night. Got sucked into a band rehearsal that went on for three hours. So much for that evening...

Out for now

Good morning. It's 76° and cloudy. The high will be 90° and it will be mostly cloudy and breezy.

I used some of my abundant free time (wish I had abundant money to go with it) to work on two locomotives, one of which you've already seen. That was a major build. The second one was just some cosmetic changes on a GP7 cabless unit. While looking at some photos of a GP60B I saw that the dynamic brake had been moved to the short hood to get it as far as possible from the prime mover. I thought why not, Santa Fe can't have all the fun. This railroad of mine is freelance after all so virtually anything within reason can happen.

Hi Sir Madog, When i got my bypass in 1997 it was "macro"-invasive. They sawed open my chest and, also, took a 10 inch spaghetti vein from my left leg. Stuck in the "run around" and sewed me up. You can't even see where they sawed my sternum open, and I am doing fine. I had two stents put in in 1999,and am fine. As far as my heart. My big problem is the nerve pain in my right groin that must have been damaged by the angioplasty in 1995. I have bad arthritis in both knees, and January28", I had my right knee replaced, and still can't climb stairs to my garage loft model railroad. Oh well, I pass my time answering model railroader's questions on this forum. Bob Hahn

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a breakfast bagel w/ cheese and a pot of Dark roast coffee to start the day.

Barry, I didn't know the Jeffrey was a motorcycle rider.....  He's not?  Idunno (Yankee word) just looks like something he would have....Whistling  I sure wouldn't want to have to get THAT thing back up on its wheels if it got dumped over!

Lee and Todd, one thing I don't like about the Black and Decker 24v battery mower is there is no side discharge on it.  The only options are to bag the grass at the back of the mower, or to mulch it.  With the grass so wet, neither option is w*rking well at the moment.  I think I will be raising the deck back up to finish mowing again this time.  If the rain ever stops, I may be able to get it done with the deck back down where I normally keep it.  The lawn is growing faster than I have ever seen it.......  I see that B&D now has a 36v model with a side discharge as well as all the other options.  It has a removable battery pack so if you run out of power, you just put the other pack in and keep going. It is also self propelled. THAT may be my next one.

Today I get to start testing my blood sugar levels....  Oh Joy!  Oh Rapture!

BTW...  Is the hobby dying??? Whistling

Later!

Me again,

Zoe, a strong coffee in my JNR mug, please, and a handful of oatmeal cookies.

Took a long snooze and now I feel drawn and quartered. I hope things will improve after my surgery.

Curt - it´ll be not more than week. It is really not a biggie anymore. Removing an appendix is a bigger job.

Is the hobby dying? Yes, it is, but not before the wheels have stopped rolling on rails. I bet you and I will not live to see that. Europe is heavily investing into rail transportation over the next decades, and so is Japan, China and Russia. I even think the US will rediscover the rails as a means of passenger transport, once they get rid of the burden of history. Most railroads in the North Americas are still run the way they did in the 1950´s and it´s about time that change, err, innovation will come to America. I wish the guys responsible would risk a look over the fence, just to see what modern rail transport is about.

I shouldn´t be getting political SoapBox

I saw a reader´s comment in one of the recent Trains issues at my dad´s place (he is a subscriber), where a fellow seriously stated that China will give up passenger rail transport in 10 years time. Laugh

Went to town a little while ago to get gas and kept hearing this random somewhat annoying banging sound from the right rear of my van every time I hit a bump, and here there are plenty of those. If Louisiana didn't have bumpy roads we'd probably have no roads at all as there doesn't seem to be a smooth one anywhere in the state. Anyway, back to the noise. When I got to the gas station I checked around in the back to see if there was any tool or other metallic object laying loose that could make that kind of noise. Came up empty. Checked the spare tire rack on the back door, no dice. Then when I closed the rear door I heard the noise again only this time it was loud and very close at hand. I tapped on both tailpipes with my cane. The left one was OK. The right one, BINGO! I looked underneath and saw the problem. The hanger rod that holds the tailpipe up had broken. No biggie. Now that I know what it is I'm not worried about it. I'll fix it when I have the time and energy to do so. I figure I can wrap some fence wire around it and tie it up to the suspension shackle until I can get another hanger.

Afternoon all

A do-nothing day. Nice, but makes me bored. Even with the new 139 extra channels in HD we got, I don't watch but a few stations. I can't wait for the new bill to come to see if we actually saved any money. I don't see any real big difference between the reg cable tv and the HD TV cable personally on our new fancy HD LCD TV. It seems the same to me.

The prices of houses seems to have jumped about $10K around here now that spring/summer is here, putting even 2 Br 1 Ba a little out of our reach as people really think they can get about their listing price "if they just hang on long enough". The worst are estate settlements becuase everyone figures g-ma's or moma's house is "really worth all that" even though the electricity hasn't been updated since 1942, has no grounded plugs for todays appliances and stuff, and is only 40 amps with fuses that are hard to find to even replace, and appliances that are still in the 70's ifwe are lucky to find with appliances. We expect we might have to do some updating, BUT they  expect full price at updated standards for a way-back-set house that NEEDS the updating. We don't expect Granite countertops in our range, or even stainless appliances or the latest in washers and dryers, but all no-grounded plugs, or majorly cracked foundations or standing water in the basement is not to becoming a house's value.

RAY has bemoaned mowing the lawn since the snow melted. Theses houses don't have but the front yard mowed if one is lucky, and all the rain has made hay fields out of the yards!! I'd rather look at an empty house than a full one as one can see things easier.

Still looking anyway.

HAve a great day!

Attaboy

For those that have asked or mentioned it, I have already checked with a lawyer about getting the ex out of the house.  Worst case scenario, she will be escorted out and off my property by June 22.  When I explained that to her all she said was "You can't do that on my birthday!".

Don't you believe it! A friend of mine put his ex out on her ear with what she could carry on the morning of her birthday and the cops were right there to see that she left.

It's breezy here, which may not be good for roofing (handling tin sheets), but it sure feels good. Just two days left before a chance of rain. Gotta go.

Have a good one, y'all.

Afternoon folks!

Just a RBF for me Janie.  I'll have a seat in the front booth and wait to see how long the sunshine lasts outside....

The weather (or not) people say it is 72°F or maybe 71°F with a high sometime later this afternoon of 70°F.  yep!  THAT's what it says.   No rain today unless you walk outside....  I did and it immediately started to rain.  I said to heck with it and mowed lawn anyway!  I put the height up 3/4" so the height was perfectly even with the part i mowed yesterday.  It was still start and stop so I finally started checking out a couple things with a magnifying glass (so to speak).  Found one of the contacts on the "key" for the power is burned pretty bad.  THAT may account for the heat switch kicking off so easily.  The insert it fits into appears to be OK so I just ordered a new key for it.  I shall see if THAT helps the shutting down problem.  I am still only able to mow about 120' before emptying the bag on it.  Have no idea if I will be able to rototill the garden next week with several inches of grass and the mud....  Farmers around here still haven't got all their crops in.  In some places they simply skipped planting the low areas (many still under water).

Attaboy....  Evicting her on her birthday???  I LOVE it!

Have to get ready for the Dr. appt.

Later!

Ulrich,

Prayers are with you for your upcoming "opening".  Lots of advances if it's "micro-invasive".  I did the saw and crack open triple bypass in 11/02.  Recovery was uncomfortable but bearable.  Eight weeks later, I had a AA Aneurysm repair.  That one was "Major macro".  Picture my chest as a map of the U.S.  My scar roughly follows the route of Interstate 35, Duluth to Dallas.  Connective tissue and membranes which hold abdominal organs in position were compromised, which meant that almost any movement during recovery set said organs "sloshing" aroundIck!.  Plus I swear the surgeon put a half-twist in the colon before stuffing everything more or less back into proper position.  I got a hernia while trying to get that particular function back in operation.

Again, best wishes.  Gary

Yes, ULRICH, you are indeed in our prayers that everything will go according to plan and that your recovery will be in the express lane setting records.

There is a small package coming your way. Should be there about the time you get home. Hope you can find a use for it.

Prayers will remain for your Mother and Father as well as Petra.

We are fortunate to live at this time when there have been so many advances in medicine. Some of these things are becoming very routine now with minimal surgery and quicker healing.

Evening All,

At w**k tonight. It was extremely hot earlier but now the sun has gone down and there is a light breeze so it is nice. I took off the DPDT switches on my control panel. I recieved notice that the wire I need will be delivered Friday so Sunday I  can start soldering switches. I also told my son (26) I would need his help lining up the tortoise throw rods ( he looked thrilled).

Galaxy- I know what you mean about TV. I probably have 10,000 channels and watch around 6. Where I really notice a difference in HD are nature shows. you need a HD TV along with HD programming for the best results.

It's hard to tell but I think this is a PRR G class "Ten Wheeler"

Everyone have a good night.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me if you please.

Ulrich, You are in my prayers my friend!  I know all will go well.

My medical appt. today with the nurse practitioner today went quite well, I guess.  I will be testing myself 3 times a day for the first month, then I go back and she will decide what to do next.  Diabetes is her specialty and she shared some things about some breakthroughs that have happened in just the past year or so. She is Diabetic herself so she is well aware of the disease.  At one point we were talking about blood pressure and I happened to mention my Doctor when I lived in Waverly was a BP Specialist and that his name was Dr. Hinsman at Robert Packer Hospital.  Her eyes lit up and she told me he was the first doctor she worked for.....  Seems she and her husband were from Waverly where I started my teaching career.  I missed teaching her and her husband by just a couple of years.  I knew her FIL, and her Grandparents lived around the corner from me in the same Mobile Home Park. We have a lot of common friends and aquaintances as well.  Small World!

Hope all of you have a good night!

Later!

Good Evening,

A cool evening here as in frost warnings for tonight.

Ulrich, good luck with your surgery. Once by-pass surgery was major but it doesn't seem so now with all of the medical advancements of the last few years.  Anyway I'm sure that it will help you a lot.

Larry, you mentioned some time ago that you were going back to HO rather than N for your planned layout. May I enquire why?  It seems that I"m going the other way.

Well the layout got moved tonight into a corner of the basement room. Not that big a deal when it is only 4x9. It switched places with my wife's harpsicord. The room does look better. I actually proposed the change. Speaking of layouts I bought the new HC door today and some lumber for legs. Just need the foam to top it and I'm set to start construction. I just need the rest of the track I ordered before any track laying can start but that won't be for several weeks but it has been sent from Kleins and is on its way to my friends.

Ken, wish you were a little closer as I need to get a new mattress. My wife has one of those adjustable beds as she has aesophogitis so she must sleep on an incline. I plan on getting another bed to match and then we'll stick the two together to make a sort of kingsize. Right now I'm on our old platform bed and the mattress is shot. Not worth replacing as it is a custom size, 6" wider than a queen and so would cost a lot to replace.  We kept it for the last couple of years as Pippa slept there too and as it was low we weren't  worried in case she decided to jump off. Not a problem we have now.

Another very quiet, boring day at work. If I were 10 years younger I'd be really worried but for once I'm just lucky to be the age I am.

Oops, it is 10 p.m. so I will start planning the jump to sleepland.

 Evening Folks!

Flo, Monon Club, Tender of Onion Rings and a Beer please.

While it was not another $4000.00 + day, today was pretty solid! If I did the math right $3053.00 today! $7475.00 in two days during the weekdays is great! If things keep going like this I might make some bonces money and maybe some commission as well.

Hum, where is last week paycheck? Called Valarie and told her I have not got last week check yet? She told me "we handed them out at the meeting last Saturday". New's to me, I never got one? Note to self, ask for Money when I go to a meeting! Laugh

Anyone have problems logging on tonight? Had to try 6 times, kept getting a message saying the site was down for repairs? When I typed in my E-Mail address (it letting it fill it self in) I got on?

Ulrich I know it was not your Cake, some how my cusior (spell check cannot help me on this one) jumped up between UL and RICH when I was adding happy faces to celibate my kick butt day. And yes, we are up to something. Yes

Curt Got your letter and thank you for becoming a Mail Box Buddy! Big Smile I will be heading to K-10 Model Trains Thursday.

 See you all later.
