Me again,

Zoe, a strong coffee in my JNR mug, please, and a handful of oatmeal cookies.

Took a long snooze and now I feel drawn and quartered. I hope things will improve after my surgery.

Curt - it´ll be not more than week. It is really not a biggie anymore. Removing an appendix is a bigger job.

Is the hobby dying? Yes, it is, but not before the wheels have stopped rolling on rails. I bet you and I will not live to see that. Europe is heavily investing into rail transportation over the next decades, and so is Japan, China and Russia. I even think the US will rediscover the rails as a means of passenger transport, once they get rid of the burden of history. Most railroads in the North Americas are still run the way they did in the 1950´s and it´s about time that change, err, innovation will come to America. I wish the guys responsible would risk a look over the fence, just to see what modern rail transport is about.

I shouldn´t be getting political [soapbox]

I saw a reader´s comment in one of the recent Trains issues at my dad´s place (he is a subscriber), where a fellow seriously stated that China will give up passenger rail transport in 10 years time.
