Good Evening,

A slightly belated Welcome to UGW !  I've tried to get on the forum for the past couple of nights but just gave up after a while.

This evening didn't start out well as I was rear ended while waiting at the Yield sign making a right hand turn. The idiot who hit me was driving  cable TV company truck and just said he was "distracted". No one was hurt but the left rear tail light is smashed and there is some body damage around it. While it doesn't look like much, I am a little nervous as my car is 11 years old. Hopefully insurance determines that it is worth fixing. I will do so anyway as I've had the car since new  and it only has a little over 100K miles on it. It's a 2000 Volvo S70 to which I've become quite attached. In fact it has a name, the BSB, which is short for Black Steel Beauty. My wife named it.

I had planned on taking it in for service next week as it is missing a little at idle or gentle acceleration. A light came on tonight that informs me there is an issue with the emission system. It runs fine once it is up to speed so I doubt that it will konk out or at least I hope not.

Tomorrow is a holiday up here for Good Friday so we get a long weekend! Would be nice if it was actually spring and I don't call 50F spring but that is supposed to be the temp.

Not much new, haven't done anything on the RR this week. I did run the RS3 a little earlier but nothing since.

After my trying evening I think I need a sleep aid as in a nice shot of brandy or such.

Chicken enchiladas with rice & beans, please.

***Jim, haven't even begun to cut the last big tree that fell, nor have I finished cutting up the previous tree. Way down on my to do list.

Long day doing farm & garden stuff. Still exhausted. Need to just take a day or two off and really rest.

Evening All,

Flo I would love a great cup of coffee please.

UGW- Welcome. I have only been here about a month and like you I thought it was a private section. I am glad I decided to check. This is now my favorite part of the forum.

I just got back from visiting my brother. He is on his way to Tucson tomorrow for his job. He works for a Dutch company that uses robotics to test oil storage tanks while they are full.

Friday I plan on spending several hours laying flex track on my 2 mains. I also recieved my second shipment of 12 tortoise switch machines so I have all of those now. I should be done laying track in the next 2 weeks then on to the new skill of wiring.

Ken- I was planning on laying my 2 main buss loosely intertwined in a big oval, soldering the appropriate buss ends together and tapping into the mains from the command station. Did I understand from your earlier post that this is not the correct way?

Well I hope everyone has a good evening.

Hi Chloe, I'm back again (oh yeah, you weren't here when I was in earlier today- my bad..). I'll have a Santa Fe mug of decaf and a hot fudge sundae, please. Thank you!

Garry, that's a nice tractor-trailer there. Is that area of your layout one that's new since I visited? Looks like several homes in the background (which - unless it's that section just ahead and to the left as you come in the train room door - I didn't remember seeing). Looks good, whether it was newer to the layout or has been there for years. Thumbs Up Good to know Alloy Forms has the old Ulrich trailer molds. I have an old Ulrich tractor-trailer kit I assembled a ways back, which I need to figure how to get the axles to stay in place if I lift up the tractor.

Ken, thanks for the quick DCC primer - I think I even learned something there! Good to know about how many locos the DB150 powers, since that means I don't have to get another booster. (Just the throttle and the jack panel, which costs enough anyway. Sigh).

And YouGottaWanna, as you can tell from some of my and others' typing on occasion, there is NO penalty for mistyped or misspellllled(?) posts in here. We try to keep the grammar police outside unless they keep their ticket pad in their back pockets. Smile, Wink & Grin Will keep you and your wife (& her doctors, etc.) in my AngelAngel. FYI, if you hadn't been scanning for long, at the start of each new month, the Diner gets moved (when one of us opens a new post with the month and year). We try to leave a sign at the old siding location (and a trail of breadcrumbs to follow to the new location). If you're in the Diner when it gets moved, grab hold of something solid and hang on! (Oh, and Howmus also goes by Ray.)

I see that Galaxy pretty much covered what 'rules' as such that we have - we try to agree to disagree (though we still razz each other about one another's choice of scale modeled, etc.)Smile, Wink & Grin Personally, I find that I've learned tips and tricks in modeling trains from a variety of scales and eras that other DIners model on their layouts. Thumbs Up

JR, I think a lot of us in the Diner wouldn't mind a bit if the weather would just get to spring (maybe late spring/early summer) weather and forget all this too-warm/too-cool back-and-forth. You have the good idea by heading south (though if it's 90 F in Florida, I'm not sure I would want to go that far south...

Rob, Black Eye ya better strap on your parachute in the mornings before you go out for the day.Surprise Have you got mostly caught up on the post-storm debris clean-up yet? Hopefully so, or pretty soon, anyway. Yeah

I found myself wondering how Paul B. in Texas has been doing, with all those wildfires they've been having lately. Hope he and Mary Ann got some rain around their farm. Angel

I've started cleaning out the 'spare room-sized' layout plan I made on my Mac, and am trying to see (without structure outlines and other distractions) what changes I may need to make (for once I get a spare room for the layout, that is). May have something to post for comments, suggestions, etc. tomorrow. Want to start getting some feedback/ideas, since this next weekend I'm on-call, and can't be sure I'll have extended time periods to w**k on it.

I'll have a refill on my coffee, Chloe. Thanks!

Oh, YouGottaWanna, we forgot to mention - our servers are usually Zoe (daytime shift) and Chloe (night shift), the twins. Their cousin Vinnie helps keep things (and Diners) behaving themselves in here (don't get on Vinnie's bad side, if you know what I mean...Dead) On the weekends, it varies, but our servers then include Flo, Janie, and another one or two ladies who help, so that the twins rest up to deal with us the rest of the week. As was said, be careful about offering p---i---e to some of the Diners (such as Barry, or PC/PhillipC) - they can go crazy when the pie appears sometimes...Whistling

For any of you Diners who don't get in this weekend, hope you have a joyous Easter (and don't eat too many chocolate eggs or bunnies!).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

What a great welcome from all. Thank you so much. It has helped a great deal to have some place to go to get some kind words and general support.

Todd - thanks for the offer for help. In the months and weeks to come I will be probably asking for some advice and ditto on the thanks for Kalmbach.

Howmus - Snow ! Bang Head

Garry - thanks & great job on the truck and background. You did such a great job of blending the backdrop and railroad landscape at first I thought it was all one piece Bow

Galaxy -  no probon keeping it clean ...thanks for the welcome

Jim - It is a kit I bought through Atlas , I think it was plan number twenty two or something. It has a figure eight , with a couple of outside loops on the top and bottom of the eight, A siding , a yard and a spur. After I got it built and realized that my 4-8-4 would not work on the switches , I decided to stopp, finish off a part of the basement and then build a larger layout with a bigger raduis and larger switches. Unfortunately soon after I finished the room , my wife was diagnosed with brain cancer. So the rebuild has been put on hold while we try to get her better. Good news is , is that the doctors said she was supposed to be dead next month. But the cancer with this new cutting edge treatment is actually causing the cancer to retreat Thumbs Up Thank God for that.I am hoping to start again in June after we give her a BIG ole birthday celebration.

Ken - thanks for the terms, advice and offer of help. Question : does the bus wire hook directly to the DCC unit? Eat up , and load up !Dinner have some drinks on me Coffee Yep you heard right it all on me .

Ulrich - I cannot thank you enough. Especially in light of your loss. For you to have a big enough heart to invite me over. I will be forever in debt to you.

Flo set these guys up and keep it coming until they have had their fill.

Guys I gotta go to bed now. Day starts off early . See ya Friday and if I do not hear from you enjoy your easter

UGW- WelcomeWelcome. Just be careful around Vinnie and Flo

I'll have the same as UGW. Thanks

Did I hear this right, UGW is buying?

Flo, I will take a Keg of the good stuff, just stick it on my hand car! Big Smile

UGW First thing you need to learn is the terms, it threw me off for some time.

1 Booster All DCC systems have one, it is a fancy way of saying power supply. Some are built in like my old Bachmann E-Z command and some DCC systems are 2 to 3 pieces. My current Digitrax Super Empire Builder is 3 piece. Transformer that powers the DB-150.  DB-150 has the brains in it and converts the wall power to track power. Then the DT-400 which is the hand held throttle.

Now what gets confusing is when you hear Booster you think it is something extra, it is not. Some people may run 2-5 booster because they run a lot of trains on a big layout. My LHS uses 10 DB-150's but the layout is 61' X 80' and can run 100 engines at one time. With my one DB 150 I can run 10 to 15 engines and that is over kill.

2 Bus Wire is just a fancy way of saying wire from the Booster to the bench and follows the track under bench . I use 14 gauge with my bench being pretty good sizes. Just to make it simple lets say your track is just a big Y. The Buss wire would all so be a big Y under the bench following the track. When soldering the Y in, just make sure you don't miss match + and - wires.

3 Feeders. Well they feed the power to the track from the Buss wire. Depend of how you join the track (solder the rail joiners or not) will determine how many feeders you need. I only solder the rail joiners in turns, so I have 1about every 6 foot. If all the joiners are solder I would guess 1 every 12 foot. Some people will have a feeder for ever section of track? Guess they are sitting at the at the Rivet Counter counter. 22 gauge is fine for feeders that are not over 12 to 15 inches long.

4 The Quarter Test! This test is the be all of  test. If you don't have sufficient sizes wire for the buss, or lack sufficient numbers feeder wires you can fool the Booster into think it needs to make more power! Then you let the smoke out of the decoder! Grumpy If you use 14 to 16 gauge wire for the buss it will not be a problem.

To test, wire some track, turn on the DCC system and lay a quarter (or screw driver) across the the track to cause a dead short. If the DCC system does not shut down, you need more feeders!

It is a lot simpler than it may sound. If you like to talk on the phone contact me through the conversation section. I got Gary into DCC and don't think he has had any melt downs.

Good Evening all,

I'd swear blind I posted last night but don't see it. a regular and some apple pie ala mode please. Just not RBF weather here yet - and Ray - please keep the snow. Just about ready to load the cars for Atlanta and getting some of the other stuff finished up for Lime Rock the week after.

Been trying to do a little every night on the layout - still putting in the transition and blocks of elevated sub bed using a combination of WS stuff left over from before and cut and shaped 2" extruded sheet. Found a good way to shape and smooth is to use the flexible foam center drywall sanding blocks. Not too much of a mess and you can clean them when you're done. seem to be effective on both the WS white foam and regular commercial isulation sheets. Gotta scoot - still in the shop and I have a few other chores to do before I can sneak home.   CUL, J.R.

yougottawanta

I have read this post over the years and did not realize that it is open and I have stayed out, out  of respect to those already here. Again Thanks for the invite and all of the welcomes !

Nope. Welcome to the diner...open to all who want to come in...just keep it clean please. Here we can talk about all the things in life that we aren't allowed to in the general forum. General forum is for trains, except teh Beer Barn {which I haven't seen lately} and the DIner. Here we can meet, comiserate, extoll, complain, share happiness, share misery, what ever may be going on in our life at the time we come in. Here we can eat all we want withou worrying about calories. Here we can complain about whatever is bothering us, and sometimes get comiseration or advice on how to solve the problem. Here we can say what we want {keeping it clean of course}.

No membership requirements, no dues, no "hail to the chiefs", no "exalting ruler" to bow down to, no "hail mary's", no requirements except teh desire to help each other when we can, and express our inner most feelings and desires, and how life is treating us!

Only real requirement I guess is to : keep it clean, try to steer away from politics and religion, and any other "inflamatory" subject.

Welcome again!

-G .

Good afternoon.

You-Gotta-Wanta ... Glad you are back. You have a good point. I added "Everybody is Welcome" to the title. See if it shows.

As info, and RBF is a Root Beer Float.... I don't know who started it or when, but it is a specialty of the house. .... Regarding pies. Do not let Barry have any pie. There is a very good reason why, but I will not explain. Mischief

JimCG shows up if somebody leaves the side door open. Smile, Wink & Grin

Duke may awaken if somebody mentions Berkshire locomotives. Otherwise he is sleeping in the corner booth. Sleep

Ulrich will some times share German Struedel made by his better half, Petra. Dinner

Bill T .. Commonly opens the diner in the morning and has sometimes posted neat photos of old stations. He tends not to talk too much, thouh. ...Right, Bill ? Smile

Ray is our muscian and you may wish to make a note of that. Music

Rob and JR each had a house fire a coupld of years ago. Tends to be tough on layouts.

There are several other regulars, but I can't type all afternoon. I'll let them introduce themselves.

There are some MIA diners and I wish they would return. I'm glad for the regulars.

We share what's on our mins as Todd said .

I mentioned the other day, I completed a model of a 1948 Ford COE to go with my GN trailer. The Ford is a resin kit model. The trailer is an old metal kit from Ulrich Models which is long out of business, but a company named Alloy Forms continued making the models.

Here it is...

Edit ... JimCG ... Thanks for the remarks. My substation has been downsized and re-arranged.

Afternoon, Zoe, I'll have a BLT, cheesey fries and a RBF, please 'n' thanks! Nice sunny day outside in Cape G-town, s'posed to reach almost 60 F today (and we're already at 61 F (16 C)!Cool

Heartland Division CB&Q

Tornados did touchdown in our county in the middle of the night. I was sleeping downstairs as a precaution, but tornados were elsewhere.  Shelley is in MI helping with the new grand daughter. She says there was some snow there.

... I also have the Atlas substation, and I also am not certain what are all the little do-dads. I am not exactly following instructions because I am fitting it in an odd shaped area. I cut apart the base and re-arranged the pieces. It will be a background model. That's fine because I would not want people looking too closely.

Garry, I know you really just wanted an excuse to stay up late in the train room, coming up with more fun scenes on your layout (an excellent one, I can add - having seen all the w**k you have put into it). Thumbs Up Good to hear from you (and that you're - for now - at home and able to sleep in your own bed again. I know when I've been away for a while, it always feels good to be back in my own bed).

I don't have THAT Atlas substation (it looked in the photos awfully big (for my needs, anyway); instead, I got one of the Walthers kits of their industrial substation (which looked a more manageable size for my layout) off 'de Bay'. I figure it will be... challenging... to get the wiring hooked up to it once I build the substation. Whistling

YouGottaWanta, is your current (4 X 12) layout a switching/industrial one, or a 'stretched' 4 X 8? It's always good to have more space for the layout. Yeah If you want some inspiration, go take a look at Ray's (S.L.O.W.) photo gallery (links at the bottom of his signature). HE is good! Bow

For those who know Ed (from SOTB, with the orange groves in Mexico), he said he's been w**king on a new layout (still in iNvisible scale Smile, Wink & Grin, but since he and Fran have been splitting their time between their town and their place in the son's 'college' town, he's still in process of firming up the sidings. He used a computer program to line out the track, but is checking it by eyeballing how it looks as he's putting down the track(s). I think he has some tankers of OJ (juice kind) on the way to the Diner.

Ulrich, it's good that you will be getting together with Allison's family & friends, as well as your own over the next few days. Hey, ballasting is at the top of everybody's list, isn't it? Whistling I'm sure the ballast won't go anywhere while you (and Petra) are busy with other things. I'll be Petra will be fixing some tasty treats for Christian's visit, right? Dinner Maybe on the job thing, you could have your friend who wants to hire you sponsor you for a green card? Worth a try!

Barry, your layout may (or may not) cooperate for you to film it, but the advantage on video is, you can edit it out before anyone else sees the result! Wink

Todd - maybe check and see if you could get a deduction as helping re-establish prairie wetlands in your yard? Whistling (Heh, heh, heh....) Hope you get THAT house to drop their price to YOUR price. Angel

As for the forum software, I have noticed that Firefox gives me messages about the 'unresponsive script' when I'm here (and I tell Firefox to let the script continue, and eventually it gets loaded...). Hope Crandall and crew figure out something for it. Yeah

Well, my lunch time is over, so I'll get going back to w**k. Hope to check back around dinner/suppertime.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Yougottawanta- I just read your posting out in the forum and wish to express my condolences on your loss also.

You are not alone in the feeling the diner is a private affair but I assure you it is not. I will admit to some it may seem that way, and others just don't care for this type of interaction for whatever reason. This thread is what takes the place of that breakroom or local diner but in a area that is not distracting to the other threads and the kind folks at Kalmbach allow us to have it. We do of course follow the rules as close as we can and steer away from strong religious or political discussions and naturally the language and content is kpet at the "G" rating.

I think Kalmbach realizes that there is much more to MRRing than just the layouts, it's also the friendships that are built from it that are just as much a part of Model Railroading as anything else. If we all were just pent up in our railroad areas, it would stil be fun, but not as much. Here you have someone to show stuff to and ask about. Many people don't have that luxury so the forums fill that void.

During this time of complaints about the forum I think I'll say....

Thanks again Kalmbach for this free site and for allowing this thread to stay for so long and I hope you continue to allow it for a long time to come.

Thanks all for the many welcomes.Flo the next round of drinks and pies are on me. What will I have ? Piece of apple and some sweet tea please. Thank you.

Cudaken thanks for the tip. It will be DCC . Some of the research I performed stated that boosters would be required. I forget now what they called the things. Any ways I hope to be running some locos I have spent a few coins on and I am electrically challenged. I think even with DCC I would feel safer having some one design the system for me.

I have read this post over the years and did not realize that it is open and I have stayed out, out  of respect to those already here. Again Thanks for the invite and all of the welcomes !

Wow Flo that piece of pie looks like something grandma used to make. MMMM its good too.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sour dough toast.  What?  Of course, dark roast and keep to pot full!

SNOWING!  THAT's right snowing outside right now!  Won't amount to much, won't be sticking, but it's snowing outside!!!  Currently 38°F with a high of around 44°F for a few minutes sometime this afternoon....

I have a Dr. appt. (allergist) early this afternoon, then have to drive to Canandaigua to feed my sister's cats.  Tonight is the R&GV RR Museum (NRHS) meeting in Rochester, so I will be spending much of the day driving around.  With all the liquid sunshine we have had over the last few days, I now have a bit of water in the basement train rooms.  Not a big problem, I put down some old towels to sop up as much as possible.  There is enough I will have to pull up the rubber pads on the floor and let them (and the floor underneath) dry out.  Don't like mold and mildew down there........

Best get a move on....

Later!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Time for some more coffee and a slice of that cherry crumple pie. Zoe, if you be so kind, thank you.

Welcome yougottawanta from this side of the Big Pond! You have found your way to the right place! Lots of kind and understanding folks in here, with an open mind to all aspects of life. Have whatever your favorite drink is on me!

Ken - I will have to build the station modules and extent one of the corner modules to accept those spurs. That oval is just a preliminary set up to see how it works and give my loco a run. Christian will bring some of that foam stuff on Saturday. I might try my hand at putting up a touch of scenery on that bridge module.

I have put a red tick mark on the modules I now have:

Folks, I will extend your condolences to Hazel and Ian. They are next door right now, collecting some stuff for the kids, who have moved in with their  father. All of them are still in a state of shock. Petra and I are lending a helping hand, but stay in the background. Alison will be brought home to Scotland, and there is an awful lot of red tape attached to that transfer.

I have been trying to locate a paint close to railroad tie brown in color, preferably in a rattle can, but no luck. I guess I will use a dark brown instead. Should be a nice contrast to the light gray ballast I will be using.

Petra is spending all of her time in the kitchen, w*rking on the meals she wants to feed Christian with. I am glad he comes and sees us now and then, so I also get a helping of that gorgeous food Whistling

Y´all have a good one!

 Morning Folks

Flo, coffee sounds good this moring.

Team Steam I would have been happy to help with your jeep. Far as the pin striping, boy I have done a lot of that! If I where to have to guess, I would say I have done well over 700 cars, jeeps, SUVs, horse trailers and trucks.

Welcome to the dinner You Got To Want To.What is your real name, that is a keyboard full to type. To bad it took bad time's to bring you to the dinner.

Far as the wiring, if you are DC and want blocks that might not be bad idea to farm out. DCC on the other hand is pretty easy.

Ulrich So the wood modules are the ones you are using but the track is just set up to run your engine. OK,I understand now.

 Plans for today.

Get working on drawing up plans to build a new gate and repair part of the fences. I hopping to do do it for under $75.00. Yea, good luck right! Whistling

Run to K-10 Model trains and hope the goodies are in!

 Cut the front yard

Well better get a moving, back to work Friday.

Morning all

I have found that htis forum is still not owrking in the evening hours. Never loads, or loads very slow. Selctor Crandell says they are working on it but must be a huge problem.

Went and looked at new Kias yesterday. OUr local dealer has a special going on this month "try a kia, buy a kia" that they brought in 200 extra new cars for and have a give-away package of freebies numbering aobut 15 and a daily $100 winner and if you didn't win you get a change at the end of the month to win $1000.00. SO we needed a new rear wiper blade for the Kia Sedona so we went. Test drove teh new Soul and didn;t like the noise onteh hiway sounded like an airplane ride. Handled mice.but that noise on a long trip could be annoying. Then we test drove their small Forte 5 door hatchback/wagon. DId NOT feel cramped, rode smoothly and was MUCH quieter on t he hiway than the Soul!! we may buy one in 1.5 yerars when I have the sedona paid off. They didnt have the forte we wanted anyway, but one is in Johnstown in silver if we wanted it. I simply said "I don;t make major exopense purchases 'Johnnny on the spot' anyway." when he calls about it i will simply say we are also looking for a  house and "guess which one will probalbly win out"???

Tomorrow we go see houses! hooray!! Today I go see aobut the finances on a permenant basis to make sure everything set if we decide to make an offer. The house I think we are most interested in would have to come down $23K to our level. DOubt they will do it, but we will be sure to point our its faults. The other house would need to come down only $13 k and both houses have been reduced already but only by 2K or 2,500 increments. hardly enough to brag about. It IS a buyers market and low inventories especially in our lower-priced range.

ULRICH- sorry to hear of your loos a special prayer candle has bbeen lit for her passing safely to whatever beyond she believes in.

WEll, thats all folks for now.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a sweet roll please. Thanks.

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Possible T-storms tonight.

Yesterday I got my stuff done I needed to. Stopped by Hammer’s Hobbies ( NSFLHS) They are really trimming down on the MRR stuff. There seems to be the same amount of cars and locos available, and there is obvious new stock, the track and that kind of stuff is about the same, but the accessories is reeeeally dwindling. I did get my I-beam stock (that kind of stuff looks like it’s going away too) and I decided to get a roll of WS Plaster Cloth. I got to thinking, it’s $7.99 plus tax for a roll of the WS stuff and about, oh I think 4, 5, maybe six bucks with tax for a bucket of POP. Now for stuff like you would use the cloth for, there is a lot of wasted product in soaking paper towels in POP not to mention the slop factor. The coverage you would actually get with the WS Plaster Cloth is probably not quite what you would get with POP, but probably closer than what you’d think. Who knows, might even get a bit more. Don't know yet. At any rate, for cloth draped things, I think I will use WS Plaster Cloth. May or may not cost a bit more, but I don’t think THAT much more if it does. Besides, it’s a lot easier to use for me. Worth the small increase in price. Besides…..It’s a MRR product. POP is not. (chuckle)

Ray- I don’t think the guy was saying not to use non MRR products as much as if you do and it doesn’t work, don’t complain.Hmm Or that’s the way I took it anyway. What I don’t get is the reason behind the complaint about the complaints. Maybe he takes the “I tried white glue to make wave caps and it didn’t work well” type statements as a complaint and not as just a “well…, I guess that didn’t work” comment. Some people I guess take things either as a compliment or a complaint and no in between. Love it or hate it types.

Ulrich- Sorry to hear about Alison. Her family is in our prayers. You were a blessing to them bringing them together one last time. See?……things happen for a reason. All will be well with you…it’s not a matter of if, just when.

YougottawantaWelcome to the diner. Looks like you have about the same area available I do. I’m building mine in halves for now. With me, things change. Got any questions…fire away. Usually someone in here will have experience and will help out.

Welp, this is longer than I expected. Might go down and use some Plaster cloth, and I have to run out to Mom’s and empty the dehumidifier in the basement. I should get out and mow, the grass could use it I suppose but doesn‘t really need it just yet. Shoot, I just mowed Monday!Sigh But like Lee said, they’re calling for rain/T-storms for at least the next 10 days starting tonight. I could have a jungle in ten days. IdeaOoo! I wonder if that is a tax deduction for next year? Hmmmm. Better write this down.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning,

Ulrich, that is sad news, I’m sorry for your loss.

Garry, I’ll try and take some pictures tonight of the substation.  I think it looks nice in the spot I had.  I think I’m ok unless a power company worker stops over and sees the substation arrangement.  I did go to Google Earth and get some ideas from regular power stations, but I’m a Boatswains’ Mate not an electrician (using my best DeForest Kelly voice).  Mine is right up front…

My new camera lens should be here tonight…

Last night I installed the small team track at the club layout and planted about 60 trees with the help of a couple of the members.

Tonight I will attempt bush whacking the front yard, I doubt I’ll be able to bag it, but it looks like rain for the next 10 days so I better get on it.

Good Evening, Chloe - Just a Rio Grande mug of hot chocolate, please. Thank you!

Ulrich, sorry to hear about your (and Allison's family members' & boyfriend's) loss. Allison is at peace and not in pain now. You were a good friend to her, and did what you could to help out so those who loved her could be with her toward the last. I like your modules design for the layout. Smile

Jeff, looks pretty much like that old rusted baggage car young David helped you photograph. Hard to believe that once looked like your prototype photo (the one with the colorful stripes, that is). Thumbs Up And sorry I missed your mother's Happy B-Day; hope she had a good one (and you were able to surprise her (in a nice way, that is)!

We had a tornado warning for our area last night, about as we were finishing up the group I co-lead at church. The pastors who were there wouldn't let anyone go out until the first wave of rain/hail/wind/whatever had gone by, and then most everyone beat it out the door for home. I got home to a dark building (and lots of dark buildings in the neighborhood) - power out. Got batteries in an older Walkman (with a radio) that I had, and after maybe another 45 minutes (and most of the storm had gone by), the power came back on. Reset the clock on the microwave (alarm clock had a battery backup, so it was still on time), turned on the TV to see all the warnings and watches for our area (mostly Missouri, some western Kentucky, southern Illinois and northeast Arkansas) and the radar sweeps. Looked like the bulk of the storm front had moved through (temp dropped about 15-20 degrees F), so after a while (it was about 10:30 anyway) I went to bed for the night. Today, we had no rain, but clouds much of the day. Fortunately, no hail damage to my car or to the apartment windows. Hope the rest of you Diners dodged any really nasty effects also.

Welcome to the Diner, YouGottaWanta! Have a beverage of your choice on me, and tell us about your layout/plans/progress/dreams (era, particular RR or freelanced, scale, etc.?)

Think I'll finish up my hot chocolate and mosy on home - about that time for some ZzzZzz...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Jim thanks for the welcome. My layout is currently 4x12 with out any real era , rail etc...In June I will be taking it apart and starting over . Last year I finished off part of my basement and I now have an area that is approximately twelve by twenty four feet to build a lay out in. I love the N&W so I think I am going to model a freelance N&W  probably in the transition era. One thing I have been kicking around in the old noggin is hiring a company to help me with the layout , electric design.Any suggestions here ? I of course would build it.Scale is HO I was bitten by the HO bug when I was a kid. An adult friend of mine had some HO stuff and he let me hold one of his F units. I thoght it was one of the most beatiful things I had ever seen. Dreams ? I eventually want to open my layout to groups such as sunday school classes, schools etc. I want to help promote the hobby and my faith to the next generation. Jim if you dont mind I think I will have a cup of extra strong joe. Flo do you have a pot thats been cooking for a while? Yea that will be fine. Jim the next cups on me.Thanks

Good Morning,

it is a beautiful day outside, sunny and warm - 22°C at 10 am already. Most unusual for this time of the year.

I woke up with  a feeling of emptiness -still unthinkable that Alison is no more. She was a good friend to us in bad times, when we lost our house and moved into our little flat. I am confident, though, that she rests in God.

Much to my surprise, my order of ballast already arrived today. I won´t be getting around to weathering and ballasting the track in the next days. We will join Alison´s family in a memorial service tomorrow on Good Friday and Christian will join us for his birthday and the Easter days. Sunday, we all will be going to see my parents up north, so it´ll be Monday before I can think of getting that ballasting done. Actually not really one of my favorite tasks.

Zoe, I´ll have a strong coffee and a breakfast bagel, please & thanks.

Blessings to you, my friends.

Btw. I "found" one of my high school friends from my time on Bainbridge Island. He now lives in Boise, Idaho and wants me to join him in his business. If I only could get a green card... Whistling

The Chapel Car has been dispatched to the diner.

Ulrich.... I am terribly saddened to learn of Allison's passing. Condolences to her family as well as her good friends,  Ulrich and Petra.

You-Gotta-Wanta ... I am sad to learn of your loss as you posted in another thread. Welcome for the diner.

JimCG .... I though you also would be having storms.

Tornados did touchdown in our county in the middle of the night. I was sleeping downstairs as a precaution, but tornados were elsewhere.  Shelley is in MI helping with the new grand daughter. She says there was some snow there.

Lee ... I also have the Atlas substation, and I also am not certain what are all the little do-dads. I am not exactly following instructions because I am fitting it in an odd shaped area. I cut apart the base and re-arranged the pieces. It will be a background model. That's fine because I would not want people looking too closely.
