Good Evening All,
Been one step forward and two back all day. Got a car delivered yesterday but it's coming back because it is falling out of 3rd and 4th (and we don't know why since we just went through the gearbox for just that problem). Got new wheels fitted to a Cooper only to find it doesn't have even a shred of brakes (pedal on both circuits goes completely to the floor and no it wasn't in for brakes). And so on.
Packer - I see you're having a week too. If the girl is doing something dangerous, is there an anonymous call line or something? Too bad you live so far away - I had to take care of the texting while punched in thing myself.
Good to see Chris drop in - I second the don't bother to post at night thing. Hope they can figure it out but I do appreciate the use of the forum and other perks provided by the big K.
Gonna toodle off home and see what trouble i can get into tonight. CUL, J.R.
Evening All,
Flo I would like a turkey BLT, salad with Blue Cheese and a dark beer please. On second thought keep the beers coming please.
Had a good day today. Never left the house. I spent about 6 hours on the layout. I was able to finish both mains and the three approaches to the yard, so the only track left to lay is the yard itself. I figure another 3-4 hours. I also trimmed several sections of roadbed where it was too wide. I was thinking to myself while I was working that I had not had a hands on hobby in several years and how satisfying it is to work on a project to the best of your abilities. Maybe I will finish up the track work Monday.
JimRCGMO- Yes my layout will be DCC with turnouts controlled by tortoise machines except in the yard where they will be manual. I am not going to control them via DCC, I am afraid that it will cause me personal overload. I will be using a control panel.
Galaxy- Hope the house hunting went well.
Jeff- That loco looks like it has been run to death.
YGM- Best wishes for your wife.
Heartland- That flood picture reminds me of a black and white photo I have seen of Johnstown, PA I believe in the 20's or 30's.
Packer- All I can tell you is to keep plugging. Some weeks are like the one you have had.
Here's a picture from last years Gatornationals.
Everyone have a good night.

Hey guys
Been feeling really down in the dumps lately. List of reasons why
That's all since Monday...
Ulrich, Sorry to hear about the neighbor.
Galaxy, Good to see you're okay and the damage isn't extensive. As for the insurance thing, my brother got backed into a few months back. He has a 1998 mustang, and the front bumper cover, header panel, headlights, and fender were busted up. But the insurance thing did get them fixed.
I've been working on a resume to a job on base. hopefully I get this one.

"Chris, Do you have any flooding down your way ? or has the wind removed it all.?"
Huh? What? Hello?
Oh....hi guys, thought I heard somebody call my name... been busy with all kinds of stuff for THAT Editor, so have been hitting the take-out window more lately. THAT and the often-commented SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWness of the Kalmbach system at night (when I get the chance to stop in )
Flooding? Nope, none around here. The Quad Cities are experiencing their usual annual routine, but it doesn't seem as dire as in years past for them. The Iowa Chicago and Eastern (ex-Millwaukee, ex-Soo, ex-CP, ex-IMRL, now CP again) runs alongside the river. I would imagine they've had to do some heavy-duty detouring from Sabula, Iowa on through the Quad Cities.
We have had a LOT of wind here lately. Really does wonders for my sinus...
YOU GOTTA WANNA: Welcome! Sorry I didn't get the chance sooner. One thing you may notice in here is THAT there is a tendency for people to use THAT a lot when the opportunity to use the word THAT arises. Here's why: I w**k for a pair of weekly newspapers. One of my bosses, "THAT Editor," all but forbid me to use THAT as it is one of the most overused words on the planet. Having mentioned THAT in here one fateful day...well, THAT was THAT!
ULRICH: Sorry to hear about your neighbor. It's been said before, I'll say it again. You're a good, decent, caring, noble man. Darn few like you left in this world. I agree with whoever (whomever?) suggested your business buddy sponsor you for a green card. Is there a need for charecter references? I think we'd all agree to agree you're a charecter.... Seriously, if there is any way for us to help get you over here...just let us know! Awesome modules you've got going by the way.
Guess I'll have a pot of coffee and see how the polishing of the Rivet Counter has been progressing...
A Happy Easter to the believers, a good and SAFE weekend to all.

Hello ...
It's a full diner today. Wow. I'll sit at the Rivet Counter and listen to the conversations.
Ulrich .. Prayers continue for Alison's family and friends.
YGW ... I read in your earlier post where you commented to JimCG. You said your wife has brain cancer, but you recently have reason for hope of recovery. We will pray for her full recovery.
Also, YGW, thanks for the remark on my photo. My layout is "around the wall", and I try to blend the backgrouns in with the scenery.
Rob ... Sorry about your insomnia. Perhaps a ride on this Budd sleeper gently rolling through the country will lull you into deep slumber. Alos, take sleep lessons from Duke if you must.
Jim CG .. Thanks for commenting on the GN truck. I've had the axle problem on the old Ulrich models, too. Fortunately, the bottoms of the truck are out of view, because my solution was not neat. A small glob of adhesive works, and nobody sees it.
CN Charlie ... Sorry you favorit car was damaged, but I am glad id you were not hurt.
JR ... What? Mr. Murphy? He certainly has a way of visting a lot of layouts!
Jeff ... That's a dirty loco! .. Hope you feel better.
Galaxy ... Happy Hunting for you layout building..... ..Oh, er, house hunting.
CudaKen ... Rain there, too?
Curt ... Looking forward to a progress rpeort on today's layout work.
Ray ... Now you see him. Now you don't.
Bill T ... Ditto my comment to Ray.
Todd ... I tried that Facebook stuff and did not care for it at all.
Lee ... Sweepers, eh. Sound like you have a full week end.
Larry ... I'm trying to recall where you are in Ohio. Is it Columbus?
Regarding the DIner, I think we should regularly invite everybody here. Also, First post of the month could include invitation and very brief explanation.
DCC ... I'm stll part DC and part DCC .. I'm gald for those who helped me get started including Cuda Ken who called on the phone to assist.
Happy Model Railroading
Can I get a quick coffee, exstra strong , yea I will have the same stuff Rob is drinking . O geez this has been a long day at work already. Woke up at 4am and could not get back to sleep so I came in to work at 5:30 am , I hope they will let me leave leave early. I do not want to be here until 5pm pouring over plan details .
Its here too near the nations capital. Jim I love the snoopy happy dance. Used to read the peanuts series when I was a kid. Where do you all find these type of things and how do you post them to the post when you obtain these ?
Larry - hello , sorry about the bad day of railfaning maybe a day of working on the Model railroad will make up for it.
Johnboy - good luck with the bathroom remodeling. Yea your right those last bits and pieces always take twice as long as one would think. Hey if it makes you feel any better I saw an add the other day for a toilet that was a few hundred dollars over 6k ! I cannot imagine what a toilet does that desrves that kind of cabbage.
Ken looks like you struck a nerve on the volvo comment . Ouch . I have a question for you. I currently have the railroad wired dc. Is it possible to just remove the current power pack and install the DCC power pack with out rewiring my current layout ?
Gotta go back to work. See you all later .
Good Morning All!Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this rainy Good Friday other then I went railfaning yesterday afternoon and saw one train in 2 hours-a very bad day...No modeling over the past few days even tho' I have several projects and no update on Slate Creek...I shall have a cup and look over da forum.Have a good'un!

HAPPY EASTER WEEK-END to all the Patrons of the Diner, your families, Wives, Sweethearts, Partners,Buddies, Kids, Grandkids. etc. and a BIG welcome to the NEW Diner members.
My wife and I took a drive last evening to examine the flooding that is happening around the City and possibly later this W.E. we might take a drive out to our old (1975 to 1980) cottage in the Qu'Apelle Valley to see how it is faring. Once in 1976 while living there we had water within ten feet of the house, it was worse once after that, after we sold, but I think this is going to be a whole new kettle of fish. (little pun there).
Boy Tipton Bill and Rob sure weren't sleeping much last night. Better plan for a nap sometime today.
My plan for the day includes installing a new toilet in our 3/4 bath. Most of the other work is done other than some caulking and a towel bar. So it shouldn't take all that long. ( famous last words )
JR. Good luck to you the next four week-ends. Be sure to get a few "W"s in there.
Chris, Do you have any flooding down your way ? or has the wind removed it all.?
Der John, You have been pretty quite for awhile, did that last storm disrupt things for you?
CN. Charlie Sorry to hear about the OHWIE to the black beast, sure hope you came out unscathed., and I'm interested if your feet are still dry there?
Garry, how is your water situation going to be this year? and when do you see the rise occurring?
FERGIE, Right now I think you could bring the US HUDSON down through Hudson's Bay and the Red River make a turn at the Forks in Winnipeg into the Assiniboian and the Qu'Appelle River systems and make a stop here to run a few trains on the LM&E.
Ulrich, It is what it is. and it wasn't pretty, but it is part of life and you did what you could. Take solace in that and be cheerful that her pain is over and that she is home again.
Barry, Lee and Ray, hope your winter is over soon. I thought you fellas would have been out of it long before Charlie and me.
Jeff, rest well this Holiday, hope you get feeling better. That baggage car is a dead ringer for the original.
To all you other Chow Hounds, You guys are always in my thoughts. By the way has anyone heard from Keith, (Blazzin).?? It has been a long time since he checked in.

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ, 2 percent milk, and a CAW mug of coffee, please. Thank you!
Rainy day here in the river city of Cape G. Rain off and on, scattered thundershowers, flood watch. As Barry would say, "A dull day" - about through until Monday, I think, was the weatherguesser's take on things.
Curt, sounds like you're making good progress on the layout. Will all your turnouts be Tortoise-operated? And will you be doing the DCC thing I've heard some folks do with turnouts?
Rob, your idea of a day off to rest sounds good, especially if since you're still having some sleep problems. As you said, if the tree isn't blocking your road to town, it can wait...
Galaxy, sorry to hear of your accident. Since it was a company truck, at least you know they have insurance to pay for your repairs (and if they balk, just mention the word "lawyer'....) Best wishes on your "Happy House Hunting Day"!
JR - yeah, I though "spaghetti bowl" when I saw Barry's L.A. pic - that, and "Where are the train tracks in there?" (There aren't, I don't think...) If your schedule is back-and-forth like that one you listed, you just might catch a cold or such. Glamour, eh?
Ken, I got a good deal on my DB150 and the wall wart for it (from our LHS owner, who sometimes buys or takes on consignment various MRR stuff that people he knows want to sell off). I think it was about half-price ($75-90 sounds familiar, if my memory wasn't dozing off), but the panel and the throttle will be the bigger cost for me. Saving up me nickels and dimes on THAT...
With the weather as it will be for much of the mid-section of the USA today, it's a good day for those Diners needing to catch up on their rest. Now, if my w**kplace would just let me off for the day (HAH!)... Or, this could be a good day for "...w**kin' on the RR..."
Lee, you sound like you know that 'sweeping song' by heart, you sing it so purdy... Thanks for that link you sent me, too.
Good thing about today is, it's payday! (Of course, that means bill-paying, also...)
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
I think the diner has been here since 2001 or so. I’m not that long in the tooth as some people here, LOL. Looks like I’m all booked up for the weekend and I doubt I’ll be back in the diner until Monday morning.
Rob, shoot me an email when your junk mail arrives. It should be there this afternoon.

Lee- Well, since you’ve been here about as long as the diner has existed, I think it was the saw dust and old spilled coffee and grease from when the diner was retired to when it was re-fitted to what we have now you were cleaning up. Not my fault you still feel the need to swab the deck. Wanted to tell you you were retired and don’t have to do that anymore but……, dang you do such a good job.
Vinnie, Vinnie is the virtual bouncer or body guard or “enforcer” as he prefers to be called I hear. If someone gets a bit out of line with the rules for the forum, we say Vinnie steps in and stops it before it becomes a problem.

Good Morning,
Got a late start this morning and just finished breakfast. My only plans today are to work on my layout so it should be a great day.
Ken- Thanks for the response on the wiring. I thought I was way off base (not the first time).
Jeff- Hope you feel better soon.
I will talk to you all later, Have a good day.
Ken,
I thought getting old was when you drove a Dodge cause you were too slow to Duck. Hit a nerve there Ken, a half dozen or so Volvos have been between the Fords I drive mostly 544s and 142s. Of course none of them were stock so.... (it was fun embarassing the occasional unwary BMW). J.R. (not the Swedish Chef)

Flo English Muffin and a Diet Dew
Charlie You know you are getting old when you drive a Volvo because you like the way it looks!
YGW Yep, the buss wire is hooked to the booster just like a DC system. It is pretty simple after you get past the terms.
Curt You are fine, I explained it in the fashion I did because I thought YGW was building a point to point.
Jim The Super Empire Builder with 1 DB 150 will handle all the power needs I will need. Heck, Simon brought over his Zephyr for me to try and it ran 6 engines with no issues.
Gate and Fences Front Boy I was off when it came to the $70.00 budget! I spent $70.00 on the wood for the gate framework and slats a lone! Guess the whole project is going to set me back around $150.00. I did go with better slats, they are pressure treated 1 X 6's and not the cheap pickets I was looking at on line.
One thing that was disappointing is some of the sections I had Lowe's cut is not Square on the end? Guess the lumber was just a little wrapped and when the made the cut, the lumber flexed. Guess I will have to square them up using a hand block, sanding again. Figures it the 2 X 4 I am using for the frame work.
Well, time to get ready for work.
See you all later, Ken

Besides that, there is the polishing of the RC...the Rivet Counter, where many gather on stools to chat and eat. It must be highly polished so as to always look great.
Forgot to mention another RULE: If you get the top of the page post, It is your job to whip out your Credit Card and PAY for all the diner's meals on that page. Cash is also accepted of course, but with some guy's appetites, you mayneed a Brinks security Truck to haul that much cash around. ANd DON"T for get to TIP the waitresses!!!! 20% of the bill is considered adequate. They deserve a raise to you know! 15% if you feel service was only "OK" {which never happens here we get superior service here always}. 10% is only if you are still in the dark ages or thought service was mediocre {THAT never happens here either!}. If you feel the service was rotten, well then you only leave $0.50 on the counter to show you didn't forget teh tip, but the service was lousy, slow and incompetent.
WEll a house hunting we will go, a house hunting we will go, Hi Ho the dairy Oh, A house Hunting we will go! After MOH gets out of work we are to look at some houses today. Unless MOH gets stuck working beyond hour of quitting, but I said tell tehm you have an appointement to go to that you can't miss! It would be nice to have extra hours pay, but the RE agetn set up appointments all week for us and it would be a shame to cancel at last minute.
I see someone else joined hte diner? I forgot who, but a hearty to any and all newcomers!
RAY, RAY, RAY, SNOW? see, you should move back "south" in NY so you won't have THAT! WE had none and even had some sun, though cool and a might bit gusty. But NO SNOW!

Good morning. It's 72° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 85° and it will be partly cloudy, windy and humid.I'm not feeling good today and will probably be resting most of the day. I've been pretty busy the last couple of days so that likely has a lot to do with it.
Good Morning All,
43F this mornng with sun trying to burn through the clouds. Only an hour or so on the layout last night and that mostly seeing where recycled buildings can go or be reconfigured to go. Big problem is I can't always figure out what kits they started from anymore.
Lee- thanks for doing the tidy up for us. Wondered why it was so clean right when you showed up. (How did that go now "Clean sweep down fore and aft.....")
Jim - As usual I don't have it all correct. From Ga. to Ct to Wi to Al on consecutive weekends so I should have pneumonia by the time I'm done from climate shift. Just the price you pay for all this galmour
Barry- Holy spaghetti bowl - and we get accused of making complicated layouts? In the words of Burt B. -L.A. is a great big freeway.
UGW (see we did fiddle an abreviation for your handle) the buss is normally run under the track usually parrallel to the main(s) with 20 or 22 ga drops from the rails down to it. Best practice seems to run the drops every 3 feet or so and the buss itself is usually 12 to 14 gauge wire so it can carry enough current. The booster as Ken explained is just an uppity way of saying power supply. In DC you have powered segments so you can run multiple trains and DCC w..ks better with the same concept. This is because any short or malfunction will cause the internal breaker on the power supply to shut down all the track on the layout. Dividing the layout into zones allows easier trouble shooting and accomodates visits from Mr Murphy (who has residences on all our layouts) without smoking all our decoders at once. On my previous layout I had 3 levels and a yard plus a reversing wye so each had a zone plus an auto reverser (AR-1 from Tonys' Train Exchange). The zones were handy as on one level I had a pesky short that I finally tracked down to a not really complete cut through the rail where the wye met the lower level. Hopefully that helps or at least confuses the issue enough to get you to ask more questions. Oh, and a belated welcome to the diner.
Time to get to it. Load list to finsih today and then check stocks in the trailers. hopefully tomorrow I'll take a day off to go to the museum yard and plumb the first 44 tonner oil system. CUL, J.R.
Good Afternoon,
we are just back from the memorial service for Alison, where we paid our last respect to her. The official funeral will be in about a weeks time here in our community.
Petra and I are deeply touched and not really good for anything today. It will take some time for us to be back to normal life.
Flo, just a coffee, please - I don´t feel like eating.
When I first visited the Diner, I too thought it was a closed shop affair, for invited guests only. Maybe it is the close relationship we maintain in our communication that makes people think that.
We still enjoy beautiful weather - I wish we had a place to do some BBQing, but we don´t even have a balcony
Hope you all have a good day!
Todd, what are you talking about? This isn’t a special invitation only diner? They made me go through an initiation before I could post in here, washing dishes, sweeping the floor…
I managed to cut the grass last night, now I’m ready for the next 10 days of rain…
Jim - I will certainly be careful with P---I ----E . How crazy does it get when one is handing out P--I--E ...around here? Dont worry about the Grammar. Not only can I not spell , but I am bling in one eye and cant see out the other so if something is mispelled I would not notice any ways. I will be holding on tight at the beginning of the month. Thanks...
I never threw any pies around...I was always away when that happened... There were certain characters who would throw pies at each other in earlier diners ...thankfully, since Vinnie clamped down on the use of pie catapaults and such we no longer have these pie wars...
Good Morning..
We are getting some more dullness and dribble bits today...high of 48F is expected...
Tomorrow I will be on call for another weekend....maybe on Monday get to do a few things on the layout...
UGW: I forgot to mention...Vinnie is the waitresses protector, as well as general all round nice guy...
Flo, I'll have a coffee and a breakfast muffin please and I'll be at the window booth for a bit..

Is that a cricket I hear chirping? Oh no, it's just a tree frog. Was worried there for a sceond that the night shift was serving insects when nobody was looking. And the chirping frog sound is actually coming from an open screened window.
