Evening Folks
Flo, BLT, small side salad with ranch dressing and a Please.
Sat a record at work today! No, not in sales, but on Load Outs (people picking up mattress). I did lose count but I think I had 8 to 10 people either pick up what they had bought yesterday or what I sold today. What amazed me is every time I had a new customer, someone showed up to pick up a mattress set. Still not the day I would have hoped for but still better than the last two Saturdays! Had a tad over $3100.00.

Evenin' folks!
Flo just a decaf for me.....
Had fun at the operating session. It was actually a bunch of guys in a loosely knit club up in the Rochester area plus a few others like myself. I didn't actually do any operations, but watched and chatted with others who were [not] occupied with a throttle at the moment.
I also got a couple ideas for some easy scratch built items for my own layout....
Guess I'll just mosey on to the back and try to stay warm. Currently 24°F on its way down to 7°F by tomorrow night. High for tomorrow will be 23°. We are supposed to get between 3 and 7 inches of nice cold flufy stuff in the next 24 hours s well. Of course they also say it is snowing outside right now... I was just outside and there is not a flack to be seen except what is already on the ground.
Later!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Evening all,
Ulrich, I’m sorry to hear about your mother.
Thoughts and prayers to those in need…
I’m going to cut the billboards tomorrow and assemble them. Today I installed some MRC trees on the layout and the standing dead trees with the small BUSH critters I painted last week. I need to continue working on that area for a little while tomorrow then I’ll move to the port area and start laying some track.
I had to order ink for my decal printer from New Zealand, time to look into a new printer that will print white. 4 ink cassettes cost me $100NZ.
We have freezing rain/snow falling since around 4pm and it hasn’t stopped. Glad I won’t be driving in this tomorrow!
OBTW, trainworld has 4-6-2's ($49) and GG1's ($99) onsale this week.

Did I say there wasn't a snowflake in the sky??? You out to see what it is doing outside right now! Coming down at about an inch an hour I would say. Should have to run the Driveway cleaning thingy tomorrow for sure.....
Ulrich, very sorry to hear news like that about your Mother... Know all of you folks are in my prayers!
Hope you all have a great night, and stay warm!
Evening All,
Got legs on the first 2'X8' module that used up the 2"x2",s that I had on hand, then with buckets of nuts, bolts, nails and such I found that I am out of carrige bolts. So as of now I need one more sheet of plywood, 2x2,s and carrige bolts, then I still need to decide on foam or not, but the Better Half has now informed me that I have gone way over my budget this month and things are going to have to wait. Good thing this is a short month, and I still have that Con-Cor school house model that I found in a box, I must have bought that atleast 20 years ago, so I can keep on working on the lay out.
Another issue on the modules, I still have to figure out a leveling system on the legs. I am thinking of carrige bolts again. Oh well save that for another day.
Sending out Good Thoughts and Prayers to all those in need. Those seeing that white stuff, be careful if you have to be out in it. To all the rest Happy Modeling.
Good Night All

Life Flight delivering a patient to Hell's Pass Hospital on the wife's (HO) layout. And yes, the helo managed this without a pilot. Wife told me to add a pilot helping the medics outside the bird, as they sometimes do. Pretty soon the hospital will have Power and I'll turn on those Landing Lights, too.
Cheers! Rob
Good morning..
I see the hospital is already up and running, Rob. Looking good!
My layout work will be a little later on today as I got some stuff to do...namely back to plowing out the driveway We got another 10" of the dang stuff out there

Good frozen morning,
We had an ice storm last night, well it was a heavy frozen snow, but the driveway and yard looks like a snow cone. Lost power sometime in the middle of the night also.
Rob, Very nice.
Billboards; if you need them resized to N-scale let me know how large they should be and I can post those.

Rob- Nice work on the hospital. Has the wife mentioned anything about the rotors moving?
Barry- ANOTHER 10”??!! Gee whiz. We’d also like to see what you’re using all that styrene for…(hint hint ) fuzzy pictures or not, I post the crap shots too, you won’t be alone.
Welp, yesterday was a bust as far as MRR goes. Not by things going on, but by the butt in the chair thing. Watched a couple movies on the ole Cinnymax. Did see Avatar. Not too bad actually.
I have a quandary which could cause the bridge to take a new direction (not literally or it would be of no use anymore) and I want to work on that today hopefully. It’s raining so I doubt I will haul any stuff in my open truck today though I would like to bring a load home from Mom’s. We have decided to donate most to the Village Foundation to be sold at their Garage sale this Spring at the all town garage sale. We did sell a few things, like the furniture for a small amount, but most was donated to the Goodwill and other local charities for the supposed underpriviledged. Had my doubts because I know several well to do people who shop at the Goodwill so it's not all going to the intended people. I've no problem with that, just well, when it comes to donating as LARGE a quantity of items, you just feel it could be better used elsewhere. However many many things Mom had would not be what a shelter or a local mission would give to a homeless or disaster stricken family. She had every Sunday go to meetin dress I think she ever bought and many she didn't even wear. Ball gowns and evening dresses from when they went to those things in the fifties and early sixties, plus many things from the sixties and seventies. Like I said, not really what you'd give a family who lost everything in a fire. Goodwill has people shop there that may like the stuff. Even as a costume. I guess it is a very popular costume store. But I digress:
I got to thinking about concrete pillars instead of the steel ones. Even thought the steel one I made was perfect in height. (of course)Buut if it will fit and if a car will clear, (it’s on sort of a curve) I think I’d prefer a concrete, or stone, pillar. I think concrete because I can make that out of a wood block. A stone one, though prettier and actually more in keeping with the theme of older areas, would require the purchase of a pre-sized one and may not fit. Of course there are always updates being done on a railroad. Hm, decisions, decisions. Oh well, gives me something to do while something else is drying.
Gotta do the bookwork for the Church, then pick up my boots from the shoe repairman after 2pm. May wait until tomorrow depends on the weather and mostly if I end up in town today after all.
Good Gosh! And this was gonna be short today.
I wonder why we make such a big deal about Washington having wooden teeth.

I have a number of undecorated kits I wish to paint but think I had better wait for a warmer day than this, so I think I will just build a pre-finished one and then spend some quality time with the layout. Just got a phone call from one of my Sons and his wife had to work today (Stat.. Family Day here) and he thinks we should take in a movie together. Sounds OK, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to go out today.

Well I'm up, and I've been debating to make a new "diorama" for my weathered cars. I bought a few hoppers, and a boxcar last night. Just trying to get back into the weathering. I would like to make a new diorama, but the old one does just as good. Maybe I will just touch up the old one.
I also got a call from The Home Depot but that job is a little to far. Its about 25 miles one way. I don't wanna put that much wear and tear on a part-time job.
Rob............ I also like the hospital scene. VERY nice!!
Here's a neat hopper I got a picture of last week. Never scene one of these before.
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Gooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon,
ROB: Nice scene with the chopper. If the wife wants spinning blades (which probably wouldn't be too tough to do, long shaft and a motor inside the hospital), you might want to suggest to her THAT her little medic could end up losing the IV he's holding...
With the blades at full power, they stay relatively "flat." At lower power, they can "dip" taking away IVs held high, remove hats, and give serious albeit very short-lived headaches! Two of our local choppers (AirCare 1 & 2) will ONLY do "cold" loads/unloads: in other words, the copter is totally shut down, the blades aren't turning. They sit so close to the ground, it's the only "safe" way to do business. Lifeguard (the one in my pic above) will do "hot" loads/unloads, but they prefer to do it "cold." The above photo is a "hot" load in Central City, Iowa back in '93. The pilot is helping to load the patient, and the blades are very much spinning. Notice the guys ducking down a bit. While not as extreme as the M*A*S*H "duck walk," there is still the chance of the blades dipping down with messy consequences, hence the "lower profile" when approaching the bird.
It's a strange feeling, doing a "hot" load, having the whirling blades of death just a few feet above... In ground safety training, they stress to NOT reach for a blown-off hat...your hand may go with it!
Around here, the pilot often stands guard to keep anybody from getting near the tail rotor. It's nearly invisible under power, and can do a wonderful job of slicing and dicing a person in a heartbeat! The TV show "ER" did a nice job with THAT several years ago, when Dr. Romano lost his arm on the rooftop helipad. I used THAT clip in my EMT classes.
ROBBY P: Neat old hopper you found there. Robins Rails/AHM made THAT style years ago. Walthers did it in the recent past. I tend to snag the Robins Rails version (cheaper than Big W's) for Domino Sugar cars.
As BAMA CSX would say, "later taters!"

Hi guys
TODD-sounds like a mess Brenda is in. I would NEVER allow auto-payments to be taken from a checking account. If a standard check-payment-by-month is not good enough {even sent return receipt requested}, I would have fought against paying the higher interest, but made the payments. IF Chase possesses and refuses to cash the {good} checks then one can {with teh cost of a lawyer} prove payments were tendered and CHASE choose not to accept them. A good lawyer {some $$ i am sure} can get a judge/jury to agree to such.
DO NOT ALLOW CHASe to walk all over you{Brenda}! {IF you can AVOID it} This would be time for a friendly reminder to NOT get over-mired in CC debt that you cannot pay off monthly {And right now due to plumbing, heating and vehicles repair bills and the reduced hours at work for MOH- we are now temporarily THERE now ourselves- I will gently ask my father for help in the form of $$}.
It comes down to this: you would have saved lawyers fees and court costs to have paid the higher interest fees they wanted in the beginning and paid off balance as quickly as possible. ANd they know that.
My only savings grace is that I have a high FICO score and payment record right now so they {any card i hold} don't pull such crap on me. I DO have one card I have to call tomorrow to find out- last months bill I paid in full BEFORE due date by their records, and have only a charge for my regular monthly Credit monitoring service charge on this months bill...BUT they have charged me a "fee" {No explanation- just "fee" of $1.00 on top the credit monitoring charge{$12.99}. I have to call tomorrow to find out what this "fee" is they are requesting I pay and fight it if I can.It is NOT an interest charge {that is spearate}, it is NOT a "late fee"-my bill was by their own admission paid in advance of due date, so I do not know WHAT the "fee" is. And of course today is Presidents day so trying to get a coherent person on the line is all but impossible.
To all other READ YOUR CC statements and INTEREST rates/charges CAREFULLY. If you don't like it, pay off quickly as you can. ANd the bigger teh bank...{Like Ken and BOF A, or Brenda and CHASe} teh WORSE OFF you are!
Todd- I wish you and Brenda LUCK! Fight the good fight!

Hey Gang.
Just wanted to drop in for a minute, Flo How about a big extra thick chocolate malt and add an extra scoop of malt Please.
After a gloomy morning, the sun finaly broke through and it has been another beautiful spring like day here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Had to make a run to the dump so I took the camera and swung by the GSMR,s Maintenance yard and asked if I could drive in and shoot some photos, was a little surprised when all I had to do was sign a safety waiver. Now I am going to have to try this in Asheville at the old round house there, Norfolk may not be as open though.
Rob; Love the hospital scene, great work.
Robby; My wife thinks I am nuts for shooting pix,s of old rail cars like that. She just can not see the beauty that I do in them.
Ken, and Ulrich; Sending nothing but good thoughts and prayers out for your Moms.

Ok I got to run going to try and sneak over to Lowes and pick up some bolts and 2x2,s to finish up the legs on the modules without the better half finding out. I probably wont get away with it but it is worth the try!:355:0]
I have come to the conclusion we are bankrupt!
Between tor repairs for h2o tank twice, the heating system {working nicely now I might add-but breaks again and will have to be totally replaced}, the vehicle repairs on the 98 caravan and such we are $3500 in debt to CC companies. We also NEED this year: the trailer leveled {$800.00-$1000.00}, New skirting as it froze/popped the holder/popped the skirting off {$950.00}, and the roof is due for its 10 year reseal-overdue by a year {$700.00} and the recent Heat tape and plumbing repairs we just had done for frozen pipes {$220 cash} AND My Other Halfs{MOH} reduced hours at work, 2 years of NO Cost Of Living Increase in my disability check and none for next year either and struggling to pay the bills.....WE are dead BROKE. We can't afford to pay attention.
MOH and I got into 3 arguments recently. 1 about the leveling of the trailer-which I said unless you ask your parents for we can't do, 2} about the skirting taht MOH says"must be done this year without a doubt or the park will fine us"{I don't care}-which I told MOH "you will have to ask your father for the money", and 3} every time money comes up, I point out "if you had more hours at work...." {a $111.00 paycheck barely pays the food bill, which gets on MOH's last nerve and MOH points out that "if you got off YOUR BUTT and went to work...to which I point out I CAN'T-I'm DISABLED AND right NOW I bring in 3 times what MOH is and I couldn't earn much more than I get in disability} GGGGGGRRRRRRRR
We are broke beyond repair. My father usually gives me about $3000.00 a year in gifts ,but has some remodelling he wants to do on his house this year so last year no "gifts" were forthcoming. My Brother always calls him to beg for money, and I dont ever, so that is why he "gifts' me. BUt I have told MOH I am trying to think of a crafty way to tell MY father we need $$$ without the begging my bro does that turns him off so much.
I Dunno. I am ahead on the payemnt by 4 months for the KIA, but will have to drag that down to the regular payments to have additional money to pay bills. AND all the work on the trailer...get this...NONE of them take CCs....Cash on the barel head only....about $3000 to get done what we need...WHERE are we gonna get it IN CASH?
SOrry to vent on this here, but I know others do it, so so shall I.
Comisserate with me please!
We jsut had another fight! and I have been sick all week!
G- I feel for you on the too much month at the end of the money thing. As far as her CC, most was spent on her Mothers medicine she required but couldn't pay for an dthe doctor bills. Luckily it wasn't astronomical by somes standards but still way too much for us to just pay off. I had no idea she owed so much as her cards were her business. I myself don't carry balances. At least more than a month or two depending. I assume Chase figured we couldn't pay them in full to begin with and played their Ace out by pushing us/her against the wall when at first they alluded to the option of payment of full balance or live with it to paraphrase. No lawyers needed as of yet due to her proof in paperwork and signed docs from them. If only she could get a Judges ear without Chase postponing the dates. Acording to the Attorney General, by Chase actually filling for and you requesting a trial, the Judge will actually see her side and it should be over. However, Chase still can file for continuances or postponements (whichever term is correct, I forget) and though it won't cost her more, will make it drag out and be a real PITA. Ah well, such is life in the corporate world.
Got my boots back. looks like they did a good job. We'll see how they last.
To the trainroom!!!! Think I'll make it past my easy chair this time?
Good Afternoon...
I had a wonderful time trying to find a few coupler springs that went flying off into the dark recesses of the layout room... ...now that I found them all I can get back to adding the couplers to my tank cars....
On the CC front I'm kind of lucky that we did not need them for too many things...I did take ourselves down to 2 from the 6 we did have last year...now, if we need them for whatever we can just pay them off before the end of the month...
As for those 'fugly' ducklings I'm not so sure that they are as ugly as all that....utilitarian sure, but ugly? megh..I've seen worse with some cars...should check out some of the 'specimens' that I found for ugly...speaking of which here is one weird duck...
Chloe, I'll have a giant cheeseburger platter and a large RBF please...I'll be at the RC for a bit
I'm glad you guys liked the hopper shot. I like the bulldog on the side .
We went from a dusting, to a winter advisory, to now a winter storm warning. Do the weather guys have any idea on what they are talking about. One weather guy came on and said "this is your channel 3 weather, oh I'm sorry.....Channel 4 weather."
Flo, I'll have a big bowl of the beef stew with dumplings, a trip to the salad bar and a cup of decaf. THAT ought to warm me up a bit. I'll be in the back by the stove getting warmed up a bit.
Currnetly 12 °F outside with a low tonight around 7°F. Just took the trash and recycling out to where the big ridge of ice and stuff are by the driveway i don't use on the North side of the house.... Took about 10 minutes and I am chilled to the bone!
Todd and Galaxy, Holy Molley! Am I glad I don't have a credit card with the places you folks have/are dealing with! I had a First National Bank of something or other for a couple years back 16 or so years ago when I started my business. Didn't take me long to dump those crooks... I took one of the bills where they were charging me close to 25% on top of the $35 "late fee" because they lost a payment I sent in at the deadline, down to the Credit Union, the lady there said, "no problem", raised my credit limit to cover what I owed on the other card and did a transfer of funds to the B@$$treds. Never ever have I had a problem with my Credit Union. No yearly fee, no add on fees, and 9.9% interest on anything over 30 days. If I overdraw and it is under 10% of the credit limit, no problem.........
Barry, I think THAT vehicle you posted may be the original prototype for this one: http://www.pluginamerica.org/vehicles/peraves-e-tracer
I did manage to get down to the layout earlier. Turned on the heat, lights, and the roof deicers, came back upstairs to do a couple of other things, and haven't been back down since. THAT was about 4 hours ago!
Hope you all have a good evening!
I was out most of the day. This morning I was taking care of doctor appointments. Afterward I went to Wal-Mart to get my glasses fixed. I was going to grab a bite of lunch at home but my father called and wanted me to go to the to water my mother's flowers. She has bunches of them! Mostly tropical. Lots of orchids. Good thing about orchids is they don't require much water. Bad thing about orchids is they don't require much water. It managed to grab a bottle of ruby red grapefruit from the parlor just before my father came in. From there we were off to town. First to Wal-Mart then to the rest home. I had him pay for some essential items I needed. Tube of Triple Antibiotic. Five rolls of one inch masking tape. I use it to wrap over the gauze on my ankle bandages. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than adhesive tape. Also got two rolls of Bounty select-a-size paper towels. I was half-way through my last roll. He got the items he needed, paid for it all then we headed for the car. We went to the rest home to see my mother. What a waste of time that was! She was conscious and moving about on her own but was about as clear as muddy water. She didn't know who either of us three quarters of the time, kept getting us mixed up then claiming we were total strangers. Not long after that we left. I got home a little after six. All I've had to eat (besides the grapefruit juice) is an orange. Now if you'll pardon me I have to scrape together something for dinner then I'm going to get some rest. I'M WIPED OUT!

However, that being said, as far as my experience goes, I have had absolutely no problems with Discover Card believe it or not. Of course I don’t carry a balance as a rule so I have no problem with their high interest rate, but they are about the only card I have never had an issue with. But as far as you, please do not sacrifice your health. I myself had, but I have not at all close to the problems you have to begin with. Eat my friend, and eat properly. Robby- Never seen that company either. Kinda neat! By the way, I like your diorama as it is. (you are talking the one you take outside and use the natural background right?) With your weathering it always makes you look twice to see if it’s a prototype photo.
Rob- What, you didn’t let the wife hear all the ideas about a rotating blades on the chopper? Just kidding. Say, what’s in front of the feed store where it’s black? Looks like it may be a good water front scene. Just my imagination running wild for someone else again. May not work with what you have.
Speaking of Mother’s;
Ulrich- Have not heard from you. Just want you to know your Mother is still in my prayers as well as you and Petra.
JIM!!! you OK?????? You don’t have to give us an update if you haven’t the time, just stop in and say Hey to let us know you’re ok.
If I don’t pop in again tonight, PFTIN
David Parks I am the terror that flaps in the night!
Evening Folks!
Flo, I take a medium rare T Bone, fried mushrooms and a Beer.
Work Front Had another good day and it was a fairly sold week with $13,540.00 and I have $30888.00 for the month. I am projected to do $38,610.00 and at 7% = $2702.70 this month. Will not get rich at this rate, but should keep the wolfs at bay. OH, I don't have to worry about that, I have a Irish Wolfhound.
Galaxy Have you thought about working from home? While a lot of them are scams, still might be something to look into.
Jeffery Was your mother on medication while you visited, or is it part of her illness?
Ron On supplies, you might visit building sites and ask if there is any scrap you can have. Worked for me, I still have some left over lumber. You can all so use 3/4 plywood ripped to 4 inch withe sections for framing. You can all so use it for cross bracing if you use a 2 X 2 or 2 X 4 block. Place the block where you want the braces and screw it to the side section. Then screw the braces into the wood block. Here in IL a sheet of 3/4 thick sheet of plywood is going for around $16.00 and would make around 11 ( minus the blade withe) 4 X 8 section of framing. That is how I am going to go if I get to keep the house and build my next layout.
Foam My self, it is a must! Easy to work with and you can make a good looking rock face.
Tip on getting foam cheap! Now being in NC I don't know if Home Depot carries a lot of the foam, here in IL they do. I have looked for damaged sections on the rack, then get the department manager and ask for a discount. My last section of 2 inch thick 4 X 8 normal list prices was $28.00, I got the damaged section with a 75% discount for $7.00.
See you all Tuesday.
I'll have an Ambien, please. If not available, some sleepy time tea will have to suffice.
***Tom, that black paint is the side/edge of the layout. To add water there would require folks to sit on the adjacent sofa with their feet up in the air. Now, if I gave up my N scale layout, one could only imagine the expansion her HO layout could achieve with the extra real estate. But, that aint a gonna happen anytime soon. BTW, I "see" stuff all the time, everywhere, too. Some call it an artists curse.
***Ken, awesome shots. And nice tip on buying foam for less.
***We will be thinking of Jeffrey today with fingers & toes crossed. Keep us updated when possible.
Gotta get up with the roosters in the morning. Will eplain later. Good night! Rob
