Good Morning,

Only got 2 switch machines installed last night, need to install 2 more and then the crossing flashers and block detectors.  Tonight I stop at the LHS and pick up my rusty rails kit I ordered and the handrails for my buddies SD9.

Galaxy, good luck Monday,  I’m sure you’ll do fine, but good luck anyway…

No moss is growing under Jeff’s feet I see.

In the morning I head out to Detroit.  On the way to my kids I plan on stopping by Great Lakes Hobby to pick up some ground cover and see what they have laying around that I absolutely need.

Brakie, that’s some good news about that little 0-6-0 maybe you should name it lucky…

Well tomorrow morning I have to go to DeRidder to see my urologist then I have to go by the New Llano post office to send off a package then I have to go to the bank to make a deposit. The last of the payments from my HO stuff sale came in today. It's not much but every little bit helps.

.... But, as with anything there are going to be the people who are rude, crude and socially unacceptable. ... Luckily I haven’t had any reports on anyones mating triumphs. But I do know when some of my female friends are taking a long hot relaxing bath with candles. Enticing I must admit, but alas, no offers to join. Probably just as well. I prefer a shower. I just don’t feel like I get the shampoo rinsed out of my hair or the soap off me well enough in a bath. ...This Diner is pretty much the extent of my social activities. Yes

Todd, todd, todd, todd todd- It is, AGAIN, like your daughter's "problem" way way way TMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AS long as you are clean when you get into the diner I don't care how you got that way...even if you have little gnomes who wash you from head to toe and in between the toes....we DON'T need to know TOO much.

Take a cue from from me. I said "I went to the urologist, enough said, especially for those who have been there,,,suffice it to say everything fine" a few days back. CONCISE, to the point, no "dirty details", left alone. Please please take heed. you are getting rather prolific with teh TMI stuff....Whistling

cudaken

Next I will be looking for a cheap card table, I will sit it up in the backroom and start taking some of the engines to work and start getting them back up and going.

Ken, I echo what others have said. DON'T take your hobby to work {unless you OWN the mattress store}. It could be a quick ticket back to unemployment! ANd be careful using "personal sites" such as this one on company computers or company time on your own laptop. That could also be a quick ticket back to unemployment. You are too new an employee and have yet to "prove yourself" to get away with such shenanigans, should they even are able to be gotten away with. ALL employers now like to monitor what their employees are doing when not producing revenue, customers in the store or not. The hours may be long, tedious and boring, but please DON'T take your trains to work! You want teh job don't you?

Well went and helped a friend do some things today. got to sit part of it, which is good for my back.

Speaking of my back, my surgery is next Monday the 17th so those with prayer chains or lists, please put me on it. should be simple surgery go in take the other tumor out. Famous last words. I have a very capable general surgeon. This will be his 4th surgery on me,s o I have confidence in his ability. I should come through with flying colors! Whether it will help ease pain in my back or not, I don't know. I don't expect much as when teh first tuor was taken out, it didn;t make any difference.

Well, I think early to bed tonigh to rest my back and get some rest, didn't sleep well at all last night.

Well dang it, I was going to put a coat of shellac on the newly sanded parts of the layout and found that my shellac had hardened in the can. I was thinking that I would have to pick up a new one tomorrow on my way back from DeRidder. Then I was saved by my questionable memory. I remembered I had another can of shellac in the back of the van. I brought it in, shook it up to insure it was mixed and not just layers of chemicals and prepared to open it. It was then I noticed the bottom of the can was bulged outward. There was pressure in that there can! Question was how much. I carefully pried up the top while keeping my other hand on top of the can.

BOOM!!

The only thing that kept the top from blowing off of the can was that I was holding it down. There wasn't any spray but I felt like a .357 magnum had been fired right above my head. Man! My ears are still ringing! No blood in the ears though so that's a good sign. The shellac turned out to be good so I painted part of the newly sanded areas with it. I'll have to move some clutter around before I can do the other newly sanded areas. One of these days I'll have to decide whether to keep this clutter or give it away. Throw it away if nothing else. It's just getting in the way.

 Just stopping by.

Got some more homework, and just two classes tomorrow.    My graphics class has a very weird thing for homework..........Take a 3x5 note card and place your whole body through it.   Ok  Dunce.  Talk about confusing.  He like to do brain teasers.   I think this is one.

Other than that, I'm ready for the weekend!!!

I found out a long time ago that doing work on trains while at work doesn't mix well. I did have one job though where the boss didn't mind. He was also a model railroader and we would work on them together when business was slow.

Good Evening All,

Didn't make it in this morning as we were still digging the nether regions of the shop out. Seems like the one day I don't make it in everybody calls and leaves messages so THAT was the morning shot.

Ken, not to pile on but i agree with Chris on the go easy on the gov't w..k. Especially at first. sweep the sidewalk, dust the furniture, rearrange the brochures (do stores in the computer age still have brochures?) polish the doorknob (you can chime in with the chorus from the HMS Pinafore any time now Ray). I actually lost a job once for not doing busy w..k.

Time to head out with perhaps a stop at HD to get some more electrical boxes and "stuff". Catch y'all later.  J.R.

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, bucket of boot coffee to-go please and thank-you...gotta head out for a high school wrestling meet here shortly.

CUDA KEN: Man, just be careful with the internet and trains at work. I've had jobs where most of my "duty" was to just "be here." But they still didn't want me surfing the internet. With a little bit of looking, there was almost always some "company business" I could tend to. It just looked better, and kept the people authorizing the paychecks happier. I just picture hard times when (not if) "the boss" comes in and finds you doing locomotive repair, on the clock.

Gotta get ready to go earn my money for the day... have a safe-one everybody!

Chris

Next I will be looking for a cheap card table, I will sit it up in the backroom and start taking some of the engines to work and start getting them back up and going.

Afternoon all,

Zoe just a cup of hot cocoa for me to take the chill off.

Currently 16°F outside with a few random flakes of white stuff floating down.  I just came back in from running the snow blower to dig out the driveway.

Barry and Ulrich, thanks for your comments.  The photos were taken with just the street lighting and house lighting.  It was a very dark night out, and I don't think the moon was up yet.  All 3 photos were taken with a 14 sec exposure at ISO 100.  I did a bit of adjusting w/ Photoshop.  I did a major color balance with the first photo (house across the street from me to get the snow to be very white.  The second, I left the color alone to show the yellow of the streetlights on the snow.  The third photo did not have any street light illumination.  i tried a lot of different settings and fianlly decided i liked the one you see.  Twas fun!

Gotta get ready to go pick up Art and Poetry.....

Later!

Good Evening All!

Just a brief stop before I hit the sofa. It´s been a long day at w*rk and I am rightfully tired.

Zoe, just a mug of plain ol´ hot chocolate for me, and some cookies to munch on - I am too tired to have a full meal.

Guess what happened? The fan in my car stopped working again - not  a good time, as it is just pouring down, with temps around 40F. Will get it (hopefully) fixed tomorrow.

I received the order confirmation from Japan and wanted to make the payment through my PayPal account, but I need to deposit money there first. Did this in the morning, but it takes three days to show up on my account. My payment will be delayed.

Ray - beautiful house in a winter wonderland!

Good Afternoon All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this cold Thursday other then while looking for those 2 blasted boxcars I open a shoe box and found a project from 2006-a Spectrum 0-6-0 that I dropped and stepped on and had forgotten..After checking everything it wasn't as bad as I thought and a few detail parts, some ABS "L" shape plastic and some paint and it will be good to go..I cleaned and oil 'round then I put 'er on my test track and it ran after sitting 4 years and surviving a flood.I am going to order the parts from Walthers and fix 'er up..I still don't know why I removed this engine from my inventory list..

I shall have a Diet Pepsi and look over the forum.

Have a good'un!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a couple of slices of French Toast (use Raisin if you would), side order of bacon, and leave the bottle of Maple Syrup right on the table....  Oh and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug, Please.

I slept in late this morning.  The cold has kept me from getting much sleep for the past several nights so a bit if extra felt good.  Think I am turning the corner on the cold now, coughing a lot less.

Today is pick up for all the kiddies Art and Poetry for the MLK Contest.  I will be getting the primary school and the intermediate school.  Then we have to go over to the Geneva Community Center (aka: Boys and Girls Club) to sort it into piles for the "judges".  By the time I dig out here it will be almost time to do the pick up.  So today will be pretty much shot for anything else.

The storm appears to have left around 7" of white stuff on the ground.  Drifts are over 2' but other areas are almost bare.  Wind likes to do some "Art Work" I guess.  Was bored last night, so I got the tripod and camera out and went outside and took some time photography of the neighborhood:

My favorite, looking accross my back yard into the backyards up the street:

Morning California

Nothing much planned for today.

Facebook, I'm there, but I don't go their much. It's kind of depressing really to see how clueless some of the people you know are. (like the one girl on mine who marveled that the pine trees were still green on new years....)

Todd, TMI, and when I'm eating breakfast....Dead

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Morning California

Flo, I take some scrambled eggs, hash brown's, side of bacon, toast and milk please.

Gary Thanks for the tip, but at this point if I where to get anymore cars, it would be bland ones like normal people drive. If I get to build the new layout, there is going to be a little less room for the town of Kingsdown so I need less cars anyway.

Well I am off today and Friday, and sure feel like I need it.

Guess I have ran out of things to say, see you later today.

Good Morning! Coffee and WHOOOOOOOOAAA! THAT was a shocking experience! What? Oh, Ray has his seat “wired”. I was wondering just how you “reserve” a seat for someone. I’ll have the chicken fried steak with gravy and eggs scrambled loose please. Thank you.

Sister is suppose to come by this morn. (great joy) Of course she was suppose to come by Monday. No show. Typical.  Well see. She’s suppose to be here about 8:30 this am local.

Mac’s, I don’t use a computer enough to know which one works best. Mostly use it to cruise the internet in a very limited way, keep track of bills using a simple bank program (Quiken Basic of which I use in just the simplest way.) And the typewriter part. I would say not even Word processor, because of the way I use it, a typewriter would still suffice for me. I also use a spreadsheet from time to time. Very basic and simple. I use Windows because that was what was popular way back when when I got my first one of these corntraptions. I have had no problems with the computers, nor have I with any programs. I can’t say that one is any better or worse than the other. Basically, a car can’t do everything a truck can do, and a truck can’t do everything a car can. So I’m with Ray, you have to pick which works best for you.

Facebook. Yup I’m on it. Why? Well a buddy talked me into it because he thought it would be a grand idea to keep in touch with old high school classmates. Classmates.com is not suitable for that unless you want to pay. I have no personal information to speak of on there, and I do not post the idle chit chat either. I save that for hereWhistling. I pretty much just have it as a contact book for those “friends” to reach. I’ll admit it is nice to see in pictures what they look like and what they’ve been doing. Like a friend of mine has a son who lives in Norway. He posts pictures and things and we are able to see and vist with him as if he’s here. Things like that. I did get to playing Farmville, though now I just pretty much exist to use as a neighbor count and a sender of occasional presents. (If you have played the thing you know what I mean. If you haven’t, you wouldn’t care.) So most of the page is covered with Farmville stuff. Again, you’d have to experience it to know what I mean. Personally I think it’s a great thing. It allows people to keep in touch easier than E-mail. But, as with anything there are going to be the people who are rude, crude and socially unacceptable. Ever sat in a restaurant and listened, (hard not to sometimes) to some of the conversations people have? And their language?  (shakes head) Luckily I haven’t had any reports on anyones mating triumphs. So, if anyone wants or needs another friend, ( I don't request. Don't mean to sound rude or arrogant, I'm not. I just don't)feel free to ask, but don’t expect to hear much out of me. This Diner is pretty much the extent of my social activities. Yes

For you guys speaking of track reliability, I’ll tell you I haven’t had one derailment or stall in a several monthsConfused. I must be doing something right. Laugh

Good morning. It's 20° and partly cloudy. Our high will be 44°, overcast then some sun. Expecting 21° tonight then warmer weather for the next week.

Got some layout work done yesterday but didn't get to the point of applying the shellac to seal the joint compound. I spent the a good part of the afternoon and most of the evening helping my nephew rebuild an ATV, in this case an old Honda 4 wheeler. Today I hope to get shellac down on some of the layout if my back holds up. It's still sore from yesterday. Later today I have to take my parents video camera back to them and set up a time when I can teach them how to use it. Tomorrow is out as I have an appointment in DeRidder. Perhaps Saturday or Sunday.

Good Morning,

Well the snow stopped, total we received maybe 10”, nothing we can’t handle but ODOT really needs to plow the roads for the commuters.  Ok, not asking much how about the major interstates?  It took me an hour to drive 11 miles yesterday.

Chris, yea Facebook is the primary means for me to communicate with my kids if I want to know what is going on… My Son and Daughter are deaf so it’s either txt messages or Facebook right now.

Jim, the first edition and the 1974 edition of that book look the same to me.  It’s a great book; wish I would have seen it years ago.

We were going to have a USCG Auxiliary meeting last night and I volunteered to cook a New England boiled dinner for the guys.  Meeting was cancelled due to snow, now I have enough leftovers to feed 20 people.  Yea, I had bought the meat, thawed it, fixed up the potatoes and onions the night before so I had to cook it.  Anybody hungry?

Barry it also helps to install feeder wires at the base of the turnout.

Layout news: I installed one tortoise switch machine last night; yes it was my first time so the rest should be easy.  I’m using the Caboose Hobbies ground throws on the near turnouts and the far turnouts will get the Tortoise.  I need to install 3 more before Wednesday’s operating/work session.

Flo, a Beer please with a coffee chaser.

Well it is pretty darn cold here, think it is 15 degrees. I know to some you that is nothing, but still darn chilly if you ask me. Had the heat sat to low in the garage today and I am paying for it now. I have a 2400 watt space heater sitting right next to me and cranked up the gas heater and I still feel like I getting the chills. I just hope I am not getting sick again.

Speaking of getting Ick! again, I blew chunks last night. Just woke up and there she blows. Was not felling sick at all. As bad luck goes, I hit all 3 remote controls for the cable box, DVD player and TV.Whistling Hope I did not spoil any appetites.

Face Book I am just going to stay away from it. Not so much about the X's but it was just boring. Folks I knew where playing some stupid (to me) game and did not understand.

On the Work front. The 11.5 hour days are kicking my butt. God I did not want to work these kind of hours again, but I am happy to be working so far.  Worst part is it has been dead! But with us getting hit with the snow Tuesday and today being only 15 for the high I understand being dead. But days like the last 2 is the down side of being on a draw. All ready in the hole, but it is not a deep one yet.

One nice thing company is they let us have internet accesses which is a first for me. Yesterday I watched a bunch of U Tube HO train Videos and today I spent 5 hours watch shows on CBS.com. It did help past the time, but I rather had a live person in the show room.

There chairs are the worst I have sat in, in years! Heading to a couple of Good Will stores Thursday to see if I can find something in the $20.00 range. If not I taking the guest train chair to work. My back and butt can't take another day in them.

I am ready to Zzz, later.
