Good Morning...

I now have a day off from all this runnin' 'roun' doin' stuff that I did this week--then I  go in tomorrow morning to start my 72 hour on-calls--yay.

Anyhow, I'm going to check out a new LHS today that I missed--somehow--now that I have their addy---good grief--turned out it was on the other end of town---why do they always end up in industrial parts anymoreHmm

Robby: Let me know whether you got the PM--I'll resend it then.

Galaxy: How about the location be Banff ALTA?

Welb, I'll have a coffee in an IV bag and a toast/jam please--I'll be by the window booth--watching the sunrise

Any argument carried far enough will end up in Semantics--Hartz's law of rhetoric Emerald. Leemer and Southern The route of the Sceptre Express Barry

I just started my blog site...more stuff to come...

Good Morning,

I taught a Navigation Class last night and all the students want to come back for another session; I guess I did good…

Robby, I got the box last night, thanks!

Garry, um well ah; I’ll get back to you on that one, LOL.  Brief afterlife experience, so tell me do they have train layouts that never derail and tracks that never gets dirty?

Barry good luck, I’m sure they do the procedure everyday and it will be a walk in the park.

I feel really old….. My youngest son turns 19 on Tuesday!

Good morning Mr. & Mrs. Model Railroader and all the trains trying to get back on time!

Thank you for the welcome Sir Madog and yes I had a St. Pauli Girl yesterday.  I'm not  much of one

for introductions so I thought I would just kind'a slip in and see what happens.

I finally got a DCC set (Digitrax Zephyr-Extra) and if I've got time today I'll try it out on my FMRR

(floor mount railroad) with my new Bachmann HO 3-Trk Climax.  Y'all have a good & safe one!

Flashwave

Make that 2, as I have a job now! It's a temp seasonal (but full time) in a warehouse for Amazon.com. Hardly customer service or what I want to be doing, but 12.50 plus overtime won't be a bad thing either.

That's some good news. There are a lot of people down here who would kill for $12.50 an hour. $10 is considered a good wage here and you have to have qualifications out the wazoo to get that.

Welcome aboard Capt. Harley! Robby, I think I might use all these up on practice, LOL. I’m currently weathering some gondola loads I’ve been making, but I bought some cheap damaged rolling stock to practice on.

Good Morning! (yawn) Sorry I guess I got up and didn’t shut down the browser. Ended up sleeping in here last night. Hope I didn’t keep anybody up. But I, unlike G, slept well. Very well.

I’ll have some coffee and a stack of Buttermilk Pancakes and some of that real Maple syrup we brought back from New York and some bacon strips please.

Well, seeing as how I was just in here (never left actually) not much to say. I'm sure I'll find something.

Hey! Somebody slipped in under and I must have missed him.

Welcome Bob! Oh, Digitrax Zephyr. I’m sure you’ll like it from all I hear.

I have to do some odds and ends today before w**k. (see? I told you) I need to get some oil for the turkey fryer before the good stuff is gone. I like sunflower oil, but it’s hard to find and where it usually is, (Farm and Home) it goes quick. Real quick. I’ve only got to use it twice because I’m to slow at getting the oil. In fact, since time has flown by and it is much later in the month than it should be, I’m betting it’s all gone. Next choice is a peanut blend from LouAnne. I need to find out the smoking point of soy oil. We really like that for our Church fries, but we only bring it to 330 to 350 tops. I need to bring the fryer way higher (chuckle) to compensate for ol that cold bird being dropped in. Plus we do need a few groceries.

$12.50 is pretty darn good for around here too. Usually $8 to $10. Benefits? The check usually cashes. What more do you need?

Smell in the refridge-a-deezer is leaving.Yes

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Good morning. Just posted in WPF.

Bob (Harley)... DCC, eh. I'm slowly changing over from standard DC to DCC. Very slowly.

Lee .... I could not take my trains (or anything else at all) with me, and so I joke it must not have been Heaven.

Ken ... If you re to have two levels, you may want to check out Jim Hediger's benchwork constructon for his Ohio Southern.  The bench legs are X-shaped like a picnic table. It is sturdy and allows room in the foreground for tracks, industries, and so on.

Morgan ... Track plan ideas look good.

Todd ... We will also deep fry the turkey this year. We got three gallon-size jugs of peanut oil from bass Pro Shops on line. I think it was about $26.00 per jug with promotional coupon. Also, we bought enough other stuff to get free shipping. I heard WalMart has good prices if you happen to like shopping there.

My scenery project is progressing slowly. There are long waits as the glue dries.

Happy Model Railroading.

Garry- Yes I do usually get my oil at Walmart. I check the Farm Stores first to see if they have the Sunflower oil, but since I put it off so long, I usually end up getting my jug of peanut blend at Walmart. We used to use straight peanut oil many moons ago but the prices went so high after the deep fry Turkey thing took off ( if I recall correctly. If not, sure seemed like it) that we switched to the peanut blend. Truthfully I have found no difference in taste or performance. The Sunflower oil was an easy cleanup. The Soy oil is a breeze. That's especially why we like it for the Church fryers. Eeeeeeasy cleanup. I also use soy oil in our little counter top deep fryer also.

Good morning. It's 45 and cloudy. The high will be 68 and it's supposed to be sunny.

Nothing much going on today. Just have to go to the pharmacy later. Helped dig out the top of a septic tank yesterday so it could be pumped out. And no I didn't do any of the heavy work. I just helped clear away the loose dirt after it had been broken up. That was about the extent of my day. I may be able to get some layout work in today.

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have some of Ed's OJ, #2 special (scrambled) with wheat toast and blackberry jam, and a Rio Grande mug of your TH, please. Thanks!

Flip, check your email on that D&RG diesel question (luckily I spotted it - got a ton of pages of posts to catch up with...).

Welcome to the Diner, Cap'n Harley/Bob! Have a beverage of your choice on me. Congrats on getting into the 'fun' that is DCC (I'm in process of that transition myself)

See that some of my fellow MIA Diners have returned. Garry, I may figure how to do that truck lettering... (heh, heh, heh...)Whistling

Will have to catch up some more later today - got someone out front to go see.

Blessings and prayers,

Good Afternoon,

Zoe, the sun has set, so I´d like to go for something stronger, mmh - I think I will settle for a Beer, please.

Petra and I went on a "shopping spree" - I need to buy a new office chair, as the old one is coming apart. Check the web pages of our local furniture stores and found one i like. So we drove off to this place and guess what - "I am sorry, we are out of stock" That deserves a Thumbs Down and a big SoapBox

Barry - I hope your upcoming surgery will go well - early Angel for you!

Bob - St. Pauli? Been to Hamburg? And you don´t mean the soccer club, do you?

Jeff - nice job on the rusty steamer, however - a sad sight to see!

I will stay at the RC awhile to watch who else might drop by!

Believe it or not Home Depot carries the peanut oil; however, I found the prices at Gordon Food Service (GFS) to be better and they will special order the sunflower oil for you if they don’t have it in stock. Ours has it in tin 1 gallon cans.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have the eggs Benedict, side order of Bacon, a glass of Ed's OJ, and lots of dark roast coffee in my FGLK Mug please and Thank You!  I'll go see who is sitting in my "reserved" seat at the rivet counter.......

Looks like everyone has some things to get done today, and I am no exception.  Have to make a quick run to the Credit Union and then go pick up the museum's chain saw.

Currently 36°F outside the door here in the Finger Lakes this morning.  The high will around 42°F.  I may keep feeding the wood stove all day.  First time this Fall to do THAT.  If the liquid sunshine holds off I should stack more wood.

I'm pondering the comments about $8 to $10 per hr.  Fifteen years ago I was paying my help $10/hr. as casual labor (no FICA, or exemptions under $600/yr.).  I figured the kids w**ked their rear ends off setting up and tearing down the sound systems, I ought to give them a decent $ for their effort.  I will say I had my choice of many great kids who wanted to work for me...... (wonder why?)  If they didn't put forth some effort, they didn't get asked to w**k again.  All but 2 of the kids I hired ended up being Eagle Scouts, BTW.  Seems I had a pool of possibilities right within my Boy Scout Troop....  I pretty much knew what They were going to do when they w**ked for me.  "A Scout is Trustworthy...."

Best get a move on!

Later!

Speaking of ED’s OJ what has he been up to?

Speaking of things to do: I doubt I’ll be online Saturday, heading down to the layout tours in Ashland and Wooster, not sure if I’m going on the layout tours Sunday in town here or not.

Hi gang,

Almost lunch time.  Chloe, I'll have a cajun chicken sandwich with all the trimmings. HC to chase.

Well Fellas and Gals, it's time to dig out the winter gear. Anyone east of here are due for an Alberta Clipper that came roaring through here yesterday.   We had 4" of snow and extremely high winds.  Today we woke up to -23c and a little more snow overnight. But it is now sunny. Darn, it is cold.........>>>>>.......,,

It was good to get away and visit our youngest Son in Spokane, but always good to get home. Trip home was solid rain from Spokane up to Fernie BC. tten ice from Fernie to Medicine Hat  with heavy blowing snow and next to no visibility. We just ran behind a truck at about 30 MPH and let him burn his eyeballs out looking for the road. Once we got to the Saskatchewan border it was clear sailing home. I guess that got us ahead of the on coming clipper.

I used to do this all the time for a living.  Have to say, I am glad I don't have to get up in the morning and look forward to that anymore.

Whike in Spokane, I picked up a mini table saw and a power sander from Harbor Freight, and a bunch of landscaping material from Sunset junction.  So I didn't come home empty handed. Also got another track cleaning car by Bachmann Silver Series. MOW, weed spraying service. Got it for $20.00 at White Elephant.   Always seem to come home with at least one more piece of rolling stock.

Just on my way out to shovel off the deck and dog pen so the mutts will have an easier time of it.

Stay warm gang, it will warm up in about five months........ Will check in later.

PC. Glad to here your Boy is feeling better. Give him our best wishes.

 Afternoon Folks

Flo, give Morgan a Beer on me, and I will have one as well.

OK, on the bad thing I was afraid was going to happen today. I am not going into details for now. and I may be worrying my self silly for nothing. Everybody health is fine (Thanks Todd for thinking off Tiff) and no one is going to jell.

Track Planing Boy that has taken over my life right now. It is a Hobby in a Hobby in it's self! I bet today a lone I spent 3 hours on the computer messing with it.

Morgan I like this version the best so far. But, you might have missed foot print I going to use in the garage. Here is a updated one.

It will add 24 square feet. I am most impressed with your ability to draw the yard so well. Yard that sizes would take me 4 hours by it self.

Gary Could you post a link about the layout you where speaking about? All so feel free to chime in with more ideas.

Here is what i have been toying with today.

First this is not the plan, but it has gave me more ideas. First thing you need to understand is at the top (by Garage Door) is the two high speed lines. They are at leas 4 inch's higher that the Branch lines. Best way to pick up the branch line is where they head into the mountain. Branch lines will have so smaller grades but will never be the same height on the High Speed Lines.

Lower left off a branch line is the grain elevator. Then the branch line line heads into a double cross over and in to the beginning of a 90 degree yard and then another double cross over heading back to the top.

I made a places on the High Speed line for the mine, it is on the right side by the door. While I am not crazy about a reversing loop (I have the gizmo for making one) and it makes scenes for empties come in one way and full ones go out the opposite way.

 OK, what I don't like.

Where the big mountain is. I will try Saturday with it on the upper right side.

Lack of yard. By moving the mountain to the upper right, I can have a yard against the left long wall.

2 Duck Under or lift out. But, I will deal with them for the right plan. I don't think this is the right one.

While I like the high speed lines being side by side. Far as I know branch line would not be, unless they are heading into a yard. Ya Morgan I am starting to get the idea.

By the way Morgan, can you post the layout with a white background? I like to print them but don't want to waste the color ink.

See you all Saturday.

Well, bottom of the page, that ain't gonna happen. So a slight bump is needed.

Oh, and I'm finishing up ballasting my pre-laid track. Now once I get the final stretch glued down, I'll weather it and wait until more track is laid down. Here's to that.

Wow, I have really been away for awhile... come back and everything has changed. Then again, a lot has changed for me these past few years... Haven't done much with trains, though I do have a micro layout I am starting on since I moved. Pics below. Haven't done much with it yet.

[View:http://picasaweb.google.com/PrayerKnight/UntitledAlbum#5541459457626472626:550:0]

In other news, I work full time now at a camp. http://www.joyel.org (Joy El Ministries) and loving it. I live on the camp site and am engaged to my best friend! So a lot has changed. I hope to try and get back into the hobby though! Glad to see I recognize most of the names of frequent posters. So not everything has changed.

Ozart Belt ... Wow! good to see you! .... The camp looks fantastic in the website! Good for you! ... Have fun with model trains whe ntime allows!

Ken ... I'm trying to recall when I heard about Jim Hediger's construction. It may have been in his first video in the MR Forum, History by Hediger. ... The idea is to make X-shaped legs as for a picnic table. The lower lever is at the same height as the middle of the "X". That allows more room for the layout on the lower level.

No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery

By the way Morgan, can you post the layout with a white background? I like to print them but don't want to waste the color ink.

See you all Saturday.

Room plan: Yeah, I havn; pulled out the airconditioner or the breakerbox jut yet, whixh probably would help open up the other sde of the yard tracks. Still, I'm not sure I want to give up all room to the Air Conditioner just yet, as those things can be a monster to wrestle into place. Breaker Boxes I could butt up to though with no qualms. But I'll ditch them next time I work in RTS.

Lift Outs: Did you see the post for the pneumatic lift bridge 10 pages back or so? Also, what about a dutch door approach? It seems to me that on a plan like the one you posted, the two would be easy enough to get through without the lifting and realigning.

Reversing Loop Gotcha, the grain mill will lose it's own then. I always preferred swicthing the mines and usung the loop on the Mill.

Still could use some thoughts on the  I fogot the mention of a turntable, so that will help, if you still want it. Otherwise, if your concern is just turning engines, I made a reccomendation to BridgeTom a few years ago about a collapsable turntable. Like a drop-out section, it's on a table-leaf like hinge and when you need to spin a loco, you fold it out into the aisle, then spin the support for it back under the layout and allow it to fold down perpendicular to the benchwork when you don't need it. Note: Don't put a lot of detail on the turntable that can get snagged on passing clothing.

When you do the layout plans, have you [put much envisionment in each of the flyovers? I find picturing scenes in the design to be helpful, but I'll see something a bit differently than you might.

Good morning Mr. & Mrs. Model Railroader and all the trains making up time!

Sir Madog:  I was in Deutschland back in the early 70's while employed by the US Army.  Once a friend and I drove up to Amsterdam,  to partake of some of the city's "charms"  and I think  we drove through Hamburg just to do it.  That was almost 40 years ago so I don't remember exactly all that happened on that particular adventure.  St. Pauli Girl is one of my favorite beers.

The welcomes from all are greatly appreicated.

Maybe today I can spend some time with my FMRR (floor mounted railroad) and new Zephyr-Extra.

Good morning,

By the time you all read this, I will have surpassed the 2000th post mark! WHoo HOO! What do I do now? Celebrate with a Drinks??? Its way to early for that now! amybe later!

WEll the other half has 6 packed days of work next week, including 4 hours TG day. Thats what happens when you work retail at the holiday time. Not happy, but we need the money.

The day after TG is a day off though....maybe we go SHOPPING for doorbuster sales....!!!!

I had always worked retailing or food service and always worked the day after TG so I couldn't go to the doorbuster sales. Now I can and I LOVE it...all the great bargains for stuff I did'nt know I needed until it went on sale for that super low price!

Already went shopping for "early door busters" at one store and racked up $200 in much needed new winter clothing, for both of us.

Well, I shall, as brakie says, "have a cup and look over the forum".

Gotta love the 2000th post! Geeked
