Hmm. No word from PC yet, hope all is well!

Ken: How's this for a start? 4 mainlines, one K10 mine placement, one Grain ill, a yard with storage, a town, and I used your orignal space limitations, just to be on the safe side. Also, the Grain return track (IE, another place to park your grain train besides the yard) and the bottom yard track are 26, the rest are 32 and 30, or 34 and 32.

Alright Ulrich, now work your magic, and between us, there ought to be a working trackplan soon!

EDIT: Figured I would. Ken: For my posting this, you owe me the Dinner Bill. :P

Fashwave, and all this time I have been calling you Morgan? Anyway Bill how do you envision the bench work? Would there be poop ups? I am a big guy, OK Fat. I can handle a duck under / lift out section, or  maybe 2. I all so hand throw my turnouts, while the yard looks great and well drawn I will add. I don't see how I could operate it.

I am looking forward to your thoughts on the above plan.

Flo, I am paying for Bill P dinner and bring me a Beer, I could use it.

Todd You maybe right on the newer computer. I went out of my way to keep the computer lean and mean. Plus I had programs that I used to clean the Registry clean and unneeded programs from running on boot up. All so looks like Kathy (Sues cousin) was not much on cleaning up the drive. When I did Disk Clean Up, there was 3 gigs of junk! Laugh It took 30 minutes to clean up. Then I went to Disk Defragmenter, first time I have ever seen it say it Need to be defragged.

OK, little good new's. seems Atlas still lets you download both the 8.0 RTS, which I have now, all so got 10.0 to play with.

All so got are first Confirm Kill for this fall. Yep, caught of one of the furry little things. 1 down and who knows how many more to go.

Bill? Huh? You had it right the first time. I'm Morgan. The "Kyle" in my sig was Dad, and Bill; jsut some guy I impersonate when Morgan owes someone money. You know, the guys who are wider than they are tall, and sell shoes made by IMI... (Are you Morgan? Does Morgan owe you something? Yes. Then no, I'm notSmile, Wink & Grin)

First he wants curves, now he wants sensible benchwork. What's next, logic? (Snark snark) Hmm.  May need to move the enginehouse back then so you can get over it to the North end lead. South end needs me to get that Horseshoe out of the way, not two ways about that that I can see. I can easily by a 24" squeeze point from one to the other, probbably can get more, but then I start running into S curves further up. The only real access holes I saw were on the left side of the yard to be "in town" and maybe inside that knot of track for a different vantage point.

And i was mostly teasing, I won;t weasel out of the TOP since I haven't been for quite a few iterations of the Diner.

EDIT: What's the Enginehouse look lik for you right now? Or do you have that yet?

Good Evening All,

I'll have a regular and just sit back here at the end of the counter while you all three try to wrestle that layout plan into submission. I think the planning thing is the hardest bit in this hobby - especially that vision thing where you can see the result from some squiggly lines on a 'puter screen. My hats off to ya.

I miss a few days and you've written an encyclopedia again. My prayers for G's MIL, PC's son (still waiting for the report back from the hospital), Ulrich's mom, Garry, Pauls' CFO and a few others. Seems to go in spurts here these medical troubles.

Good to see Lee's making good progress - nice shots, too. Der is busy scratching out a structure (bet if I put water in that grain hopper it would be a water tank after allWhistling) Once I saw the cone shaped bottom I knew I was incorrect in my guess. Hope Jerry got his lift fixed too. They fit shear bolts so the motor won't burn out, but as frequently as you have issues with that lift, the motor must be darn near new still.Even Jim reports some progress.

Jeff, never too soon (or too late) to whip your nephew into shape. This I assume isn't your mechanical nemesis (the one who can break an anvil)? Hope the rewiring is going all right.

Jerry - who made GP-9's in iNvisible scale? Will other 4 wheel trucks fit? What about motors and driveshafts? Nosey people want to know.

As for me, between shovelling dirt , doing spackle and paint touchups and cleaning, I've not gotten anyfurther than setting up the hobby bench and moving boxes of trains stuff back into the basement. But at least the strain stuff is getting closer.  Think I'll just go back to my coffee for now.

Catch y'all later,     J.R.

Evening all.

EXHAUSTED from hockey practice last night. Before practice, they had us do stairs twice around the rink. The entire practice was suicides and circles. Then, to top it off, they had us do sprints in our pants and shin pads after practice.

I was so tired, I just came home, showered, ate, did my homework, and went to bed. Not normal for me.

We have off ice tomorrow, and then regular practice Thursday, so I don't know when I'll be in again. Bye for now!

Got word on my forum a little while ago the PC's son is in recovery. I'm sure Philip will be in sometime soon to provide the details.

Looks like I'll have the heater on low tonight as we're looking at a low of 40. Not much going on here.

I think, RAY, the "poop" scoop on the pop ups is that some of them really are "POOP Ups", especially the annoying repetitive ones! so maybe Ken had it right!!!

Evening,

I sure hope PC's son recovers soon.

Well, not much from me. Got the paperwork to pick classes for next year. A touch too soon dontcha think? One thing's for sure. NO FOREIGN LANGUAGE. the only language I want to take is German, but they don't offer it. And I am sick of Spanish. But I'm not going there.

Did get some track ballasted, as soon as I can get my air tank back, I'll weather it down just a smidge. Only enough to reflect ballast with steam engines and first gen diesels hauling wagons and coaches across new ballast.

Oh, and Jeff, 40's are nothing, It's gotten into the 30's here.

"Poop ups." Makes perfect sense to me... I mean, If I had 'em, I'd surely knock my noggin' on 'em which would surely make me say "ohhhhhhh POOP!"

Or something like THAT...Whistling

Bucket of coffee please, the full-strength kind, please and thank-you.

With a nasty case of writer's block, I managed to knock a couple items off the "honey-do" list today: replaced an old push-button light switch and hung another set of blinds. I still have at least three more outlets to replace, and they are all in the Wife's "new" studio. I think there may be one left to do in the "current" studio, but it is buried behind a whole lotta "stuff."

No meecee, micee, mousies...yet. I think I got all the likely routes in plugged. *crossing the fingers*.

I'll have a seat at the RC for a bit, then I oughta send-out some e-mails for w**k.

I forgot to mark it, but is the 24" access between the yard and station enough? If not, I can move the station to someplace else as I;m not sure the station platform will be long enough if I move the north switch south (past the grain track,) I don't think that it will be long enough for Passenger. It;s the only lift-out I see a need for though. Amd by lift out, I mean somehting hinged and collapsable.

OK, that was one LONG day!

We're home, and my son is resting comfortably.  It was a rough recovery, but then it always is with his condition.  For now though, he's in his bed with strong meds pumping through his veins, and he's got video games hooked up in his room, along with some crackers to knaw on.  Next round of meds is in a few hours, so I'm gonna cut out and get some shut eye.

Thanks to all of you who had him in your thoughts and prayers.  I know it makes a difference!

Good Morning,

a drab day is breaking. Petra will be gone today and I will use my "free" time to double check some of the dimensions in my designated train room and maybe start drawing the benchwork in my little CAD system. There are still some issues with that, which I have not yet resolved.

Janie, coffee and French toast for me, please.

PC - continuing healing Angel for your son!

Ken, Morgan - I am awed by that plan. I never would be able to come up with something like it. I like the left part with the yard a lot, maybe the right bit could use a little bit of "untangling". Ha, I have learned a lesson - my thinking is to simple to design such a big layout. All I can come up with is somehow arranged along the walls, and maybe a peninsula in the middle - not enough to accommodate all your druthers, Ken. I am not creative enough ... Crying

Good mornign all

Well, the MIL drifts and fades in and out and sometiems recognizes people, but tehn drifts out and glazes over. SHe has been in bed for what now 7 days, and has been cleaned up from accidents. I sincerely wish the FIL would take her to the hospital and let them help take care of her, but he is stubborn and she wanted to die at home, so he tries his best to care for her there. THE FIL's gears are starting to slip too. Shes 83, he is 82. SO special thoughts and prayers  please? AngelAngel

Our train nut friend's wife came home monday and went back to night school last night, though she is off from work for 4-6 weeks. SHe is doing as good as can be and is in good spirits. she needed 4 units of blood in all after the surgery. They gave her the estrogen patch so she isn't a B*** on wheels going through instant menopause. AngelAngel

My ohter half has a minor medical proceedure today, so thoughts with us today please. Angel Angel

See PC...our special thoughts and prayers DO help!! Angel Angel for continued healing.

Who else needs special thoughts and prayers? Angel Angel for them also!!

well, we have a lot to do have to drop stuff off at teh FIL's before the proceedure and the proceedure will take about 3 hours all total then we have to eat out after as other half will be starving. so best get at it...

Good Morning,

Ray, I will be sharing some 49 to 55 mph winds with you today…..

Brakie, not sure if you’re south of Columbus or north…

Saturday (20NOV10)  is the route 30 Express tour between Ashland, OH and Canton, OH details can be found here: http://www.route30express.org/Rte30Announcements.htm

NMRA Division 4 has 6 layouts open on Sunday (21NOV10) in the Parma, Sagamore Hills, and Broadview Heights area.

I’m planning on hitting about 10 layouts on the Route 30 Express and 3 layouts on the NMRA tour.  Ashland is about 1.5 hours SW of me but it’s worth it.  Last year I got to visit Dean Freytag’s layout, very impressive and eye opening.

Robby, the Berea show had 2 vendors selling weathered rolling stock.  The one was selling the MTH or Intermountain (1st thing that goes with old age is memory, the 2nd thing is, hum I can’t remember) RTR cars.  Both wanted between $40 and $50 a car.  Your sets of weathering powders go for about $40 if you can find them.   I would recommend “selling” the cars.  In this area UP, SP, ATSF, WP won’t do as well as NKP, CN, CP, NYC, PRR, N&W, NS, C&O, B&O, CSX, CONRAIL.  If you do 1950’s you can’t go wrong with B&O, C&O, NKP, NYC. Not giving you advice, just telling you what I know.  I will admit I’ve noticed more Great Northern fans than ever before recently.

Ken, my body count is 20 confirmed kills so far.  I was worried the neighbor’s cat would get hurt playing with the bodies but her owner assured me she won’t go near them, so I feel comfortable dropping the poison tabs in the garage.

Man, I came in here this morning and got booted out!  Site maintinance and such..........takes more then that to make me go away!

Mornin' All!

Long night, but the sun is up and so it's time to start the coffee drip!

Gets ya movin' in the morning, ya know?

BTW, I've noticed some folk around here in need of prayers.  Though I haven't said as much, I do pray for you all daily.

My son is currently sleeping......something he didn't do a lot of last night.  He's not in a lot of pain (thankfully), but the pain meds make him quite nausiated, and thats not a lot of fun.  Anyways, all is good for now.  Oh, and the doc says that he may not have to get the last two surgeries in this series if he continues to do well with his healing and therapy!  That would be awesome!

Garry and Todd have about convinced me to begin plugging ahead with the current layout rather then down sizing.  I hated the idea of starting over, but this project is a lot to handle.  Guess bite sized chunks wouldn't be too bad though.  Thanks guys!  Now I just have to buckle down and make the time!

Oh well, I'm going to head over to the corner booth with my coffee drip...........Thanks Chloe!

Good WINDY morning.  Man some points of the night I thought a tornado was coming!!!

I have a ton of cars to do in the basement, and I would like to re-wire the whole layout.   Talk about having some projects lined up!!

PC...........I'm glad it all went well yesterday.

Lee........I have had several people tell me to try MD, and the NY shows.   Heck I've had people tell me to try some "fire hall" shows around here.  That won't happen this year.   Between starting school in January, and Jessica finals in a month or so......Just no time.    If I do another show, it won't be till next summer.    Plus with having FIVE animals, its hard to get away.

Good morning All,

56F and raining on and off still (like all day yesterday). Museum last night and we have both N loops operating consistently. With the thing being operated from a push button overn and over without supervision it's imperative that we not have any glitches like cars uncoupling or dropping on the ground so running a couple of dozen times without problems was good. There were a couple of spots where the joins between rails weren't perfect so i soldered them then filed flat and burnished the joints and that pretty much solved the issues. The outer passenger loop has the consist stop at the station then restart automatically (DALLEE electronics) and that was making the old Rapido couplers unhook as they gave and took slack so we fixed that with a dab of silicone over the couplers (not a problem when you don't need to switch stuff out. Just need to replace some ties and stabilize the joints a bit more and we'll be ready to ballast.

Glad the hear PC's son is recovering and G's train nut friends' wife is out and hopefully getting better.

Jeff - I thought that might have been the case with the nephew. Is it too late to put up a fence or plant a minefield or something? I suppose that it's too much to hope that your good example will give him cause to change for the better.

Ken - what is the height of the A/C unit reletive to the table? If you want a reasonable isle and the minimum of liftouts and gates i guess the best bet is one of those twisted dogbone style layouts with perhaps a pennisula for the industries? I for one get a headache just trying to think about it.

Back to the shop and lots more fun - we're still running two people short so the CFO's been pressed back into service.    Catch y'all later.  J.R.

PC- Good news. Still praying too.

I see the coffee drip has been moved back in. That’s good to see, it means PC may be sticking around.

Just as I thought I was almost done with Mom's house save a few oddds and ends, Mr Murphy FLINGS himself right through the door. FLINGS I tell ya. Termite damage. Termites are long since deceased, but, their paper like wall studs are still thereSigh. Trying to repair the drywall that the flyers attacked a couple years ago, I discovered the bottom of the door frame did not appear to be attached and the drywal, when pressed, made an uneasy give along with a crunching of paper sound. Removal of some drywall revealed the problem. The diner for termites. Imust now demo the wall and see the extent of the damage and repair. Will I ever get this place done so I too can join Ray and Robby, and Lee and Garry and Jerry and OH the list goes ON, in my train room and talk of my little choo choo’s and the associated adventures we all enjoy so much? I’ve so much to do and so much knowledge to suck up.

Best get moving.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Good Afternoon,

Petra´s back from her teaching, so I will have to start to prepare a late lunch, early dinner type of meal. It´ll be just burgers & oven fries, as I am not the world´s greatest cook. Health food is ahead of us!

Todd - there was something I wanted to tell you - shoot, it´s gone! Does that qualify me as an elderly person now?

Ken - a little late, but better than never! Poop up - you could not have named it more appropriately!

Galaxy - Angel for your MIL and FIL. My parents are 84 and 82 and we all know that the day to say goodbye is near. When you are in that age, each day is a gift. I am glad for each day the phone does not ring ...

TSF - so you want to learn German? Not an easy language to learn - believe me, Spanish is much easier and probably a lot more useful in your neck of the woods. Here in Germany, you can get by with English, as most people speak at least a little of this lingo.

A friend of mine sent me three #4 Shinohara turnouts, which add to my stock of building materials. That´s a $ 85 value in German prices...

Petra´s getting hungry, so I have to hurry now.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe just a blueberry muffin (w/ real butter) and my dark roast coffee.  Can't stay long....  Have a bunch of things to get out of the wind before the major gusts start in this neck of the woods...  Talking gust to 50MPH early this afternoon.

PC, very good to hear your son is home and resting after his surgery.  THAT would be wonderful if he could forgo the last of the surgeries.  You and your family are in my prayers!

Galaxy, prayers for your MIL and FIL and both you and your wife!  My family dealt with the "end of life" issues not THAT long ago.

OK there were others I wanted to mention, but I can't remember off the top of my head...  What Todd?  You too?  What were we talking about?

Looked outside and the wind is picking up...  Got to go!

Later!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

The burgers were super!

Flo, just a strong coffee to help me digest this health food, please!

Jeff - I forgot to mention it, on German e-Bay you now and then find slices of the Berlin wall up for sale. Reminds me of a Japanese friend of mine, who once drew a line on the ground and said "Don´t think it is just a line - it is an ocean!"

Jeff - I thought that might have been the case with the nephew. Is it too late to put up a fence or plant a minefield or something? I suppose that it's too much to hope that your good example will give him cause to change for the better.

Either that or the M72 launcher aimed between his eyes.
