That just means the amount of farmers still harvesting is few enough that the elevator has stopped working weekends and have gone back to the normal hours. I have a wife again that I don’t have to visit at work to see. Problem is I have to get used to her all over again. Is this hobby really that frail that whenever someone mentions they model railroad in public it’s viewed as a brave and much much needed boost for this who really knows how old hobby? I mean really. The catalogs show many products. New stuff all the time. If it was that in danger, I doubt they would be that way. The train shows are always packed. Even here in central Illinois. (Oops, sorry. I mean Illinoy). I don’t see any of these celebs “hiding” that they are Model Railroaders. Shoot when I talk to someone, I don’t just say, how ya doin’ My names Todd, the specials are…. Oh by the way did I mention I'm a Model Railroader? We don’t know what color pajamas they prefer either, but if someone asks, I’m sure they’ll say and then the Payama industry will be on the way to being saved. Jeff- your description of time allowed for the van repairs sounds like my time allowed for the house repairs. Albeit different reasons, but the schedule sounded familiar. Ken- I’m sorry to here that. Very sorry. Too bad we get so attached to the fur wads. I surely do pray you don’t have to make the dreaded decision to “put her to sleep”. THAT would be hard. Mom had to to her yup, 16 year old miniature Schnauzer about 8 or 9 years ago. Cancer. She still has occasioanal bad feelings for doing it to "her little baby girl". But she does realize it was for the good of the dog. Inhuman if she didn't. But that doesn't make it any easier to make the call. Well, I guess it does, but not much.

Well as you can tell I’m running reeeeeal late today. Gotta do a few things at Mom’s house, then go into town to see her. Since we’ll be halfway there anyway and Sears has a sale on their range hoods, will pick up one there. Hopefully. Then some different color grout for the floor on the ent…foy-yay. It would have been done yesterday but Brenda decided the grout we’ve been using is too light for this colored tile. Soooo….. Didn’t get done with that. I’m used to it by now.

'Tis a good day to do MRR stuff, or lounge around as a non-productive lump. Rerun has chosen (other than taking TODD to task) to be a non-productive lump today. I may follow suit. Or I could splash some paint around in the RR room, or w**k on a boxcar, or do more Truck Committee research, or get a jump on an article for next week, or.......... go be a lump. The race (Martinsville) is gonna start soon, the No. 17 appears to once again be crap, so might not do much more than have the race as background noise. Could see if I can find the Steelers on "normal" TV. Could just go inspect the inside of my eyelids for leaks.
RAY: Congrats! I'm really liking those switch levers. Not sure yet how to fit 'em into my plans...but I'm contemplating finding a way, they are just too cool. The bulk of my future turnouts will need ground throws rather than the tall switch stands, but I am very impressed with the Details West units and how WOLFGANG managed to make 'em turn.
ROBBY P: Man, you need to protect your hands much like a surgeon would! Glad it was just a "nick" and not something more serious. THAT was a very impressive line-up of your $30 freight cars, by the way.
CUDA KEN: Our very best wishes and thoughts to you and your fuzzy friend! Rerun is going to be 8 in February... I'm hoping for a long, long life for my Little Fuzzy Buddy, but I know sooner or later the day will come when I have to make the decision. My goal is we both grow old together and raise heck in the nursing home!

Very simple, two fine spring wires running parallel to the track engage the "horns" and squeeze them together, thus releasing the "hooks" - kinda elegant, but I only ever saw the one. Maybe they're a common item elsewhere, but not where we've ever lived as mmrs. Sounds like your niece has a great plan - how would she be for a neighbour?

You would think I'm old enough to stop making these stupid mistakes, but no, I don't ever seem to learn. A couple of years ago. we were riding an excursion train when a car two up from us derailed. Did I get pictures? Nope, batteries in the camera went dead right before the derailment.
Last week after doing some railfanning at my favorite place, I though I had better change out the camera batteries when I got home. Well, guess who forgot to do that. So what happens today when I go to the same spot? I see a little column of black smoke down the road. Being a retired firefighter, I had to check it out. Short version of this story - I got just a few photos and the batteries went dead again. Went back to the camera case to get fresh ones only to discover that I neglected to replace them the last time. I'll never learn I guess.

Oh, and looking again at your module, especially THAT overhead shot, I swear I can just about smell the creosote and feel the ballast crunching under my steel toed boots.
Well, to borrow a quote the "musician" who claims to be an "artist" who now is represented by some kind of symbol but used to be called Prince, today I did "something pretty close to nothing." Too tired to do anything of any significance, too uncomfortable to sleep. While I did not throw my back out yesterday whilst doing some w**k with a shovel, right now I'd very much like to. I did find some fire engines for the rest of the committee to ponder tomorrow night (committee meeting). Some idiot forgot he had to w**k THAT night, and instead of meeting on Tuesday, suggested Monday instead. Sometimes, I really irritate myself. Oh well, I drew-up a list of suggestions and my rationale for the rest of the guys to look at, laugh at, or actually discuss. They can agree, disagree, or just toss the whole mess into the trash can.
I suppose I oughta go see if Rerun has anything left in him needing removal... and see if the Wife has any plans for supper. She's been an unproductive lump all day as well.

Todd, thanks! I will keep the module as is or possibly put a bit of scenery and maybe a building along the siding. I can use it when I teach RRing Merit Badge to Scouts. Already have a guy who wants to borrow it for THAT purpose.

TOmorrow I have a surgical proceedure to determine if I have necrotic {dead} tissue in my back. He will go in with a scalpal and make an incision and take out samples of tissue to be analyized. UGH!
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight, blah blah blah...be at the hospital at 11 AM tomorrow so I can wait...and wait...and wait...till they can get me in to do the proceedure. THen a happy litlle muffin and a cup of coffee and go home or rather out to eat if I'm up to it.
There is a sign in the ambulatory surgery bays at the hospital that says: " we want to make your stay here as comfortable as possible. Please let us know ahead of time what we can do to exceed your expectations while you are here." I told them I did not want no stinking muffin after the last surgeries {carpal Tunnel}, that I wanted Steak and Eggs for eating after the proceedure. I NEVER did get that, got that stinking muffin and coffee again...so they did NOT "Exceed my expectations".!!

Did a little bit of wok on both cars. Red car got a brake fluid leak somehow, but that's been bended. I changed one of the battery connectors on the silver car to a larger clamp type (as opposed to the small factory ones). There's not enough cable to do the positive terminal and I really don't want to splice wires for the battery. I'll probably leave it as such until I relocate the battery to the trunk.
Jeff, I did some searching and that came up as one possible thing. That one is kind of vague, but when I searched I noted that many people changed the fuel pump and fuel filter and it went away.
Galaxy, yeah they are a pain sometimes. I wouldn't doubt the fuel pump is wearing out. The car has over 211,000 miles (Odometer is stuck at 210,871, seems to be common for SN mustangs to have broken odometers) and I doubt the fuel pump or filter have ever been changed. If changing the filter doesn't solve it, then I'm getting a larger fuel pump from summit.

Thanks Vincent! There is no scenery as it isn't necessary for the judging. Only the trackage itself and details pertaining to the track are part of the judging. There is nothing wrong with adding scenery, buildings, etc. but it won't gain any more points (except that judges who like your scenery tend to give you a better look maybe....) I may add some terrain and other scenery sometime in the future as I will keep this module as a demo for shows, or teaching RR Merit Badge to Scouts.

It's really easy NERM to get to me. Just go in the entry door of Lourdes Hospital, up one floor to the atrium and they will tell you which recovery booth I am in! No maze of halways or nuttin'! SO bring on the steak and eggs!
WEll, I had better go and start to get ready I guess. TIme to trim the beard and shower so I am well dried of soap before noon, as they really want you to take your shower the night before.
And NO BREAKFAST, Oh my.... it's a long way to 1 o'clock-ish whne I may get something to eat. If I am lucky the Dr. will be running ahead of schedule and they will take me right in soon after 11 Am arrival. Now parking is the serious thing....They are adding on to the hospital and parking is a frightmare this time of year! {A little humor doesn't hurt before a proceedure!}

Good Morning, I was able to do a ton of MRR stuff this weekend; I’m working on the east end of town (opposite the roundhouse) where there is a long spur with 5 small industries. Scenery for the team track and railroad office is installed, the feed mill lot and ramp is installed, built a 10’ 7” back drop board for the harbor backdrop and installed it, framing for the freighter slip is finished. For the club layout I built 53 apple trees for the orchard behind the track side diner. I was going to take a few pictures, but I have “stuff” everywhere right now. If I can keep this momentum up I hope to install the small sugar beet refinery and finish the small industrial complex. It doesn’t look like I worked all weekend on the layout, but there is defiantly some sign of progress.GMT; I can still drive with the starter on my 2003 F250 Diesel.
Ok, I’m going to go catch up on weekend posts….

Good morning. It's 72 and cloudy. The high will be 87 and it will be mostly cloudy. There's a 30% chance of rain.From what I could see the cable crews worked long into the night trying to resolve the latest bout of cable problems plaguing the area lately. For now it seems to be working. We'll see what the story is this afternoon as by then any problem has made itself known. The fun part of it is that when they fix one problem the next weak link in the system goes down and it may be down the line or somewhere back up the line where they've already been. Welcome to the digital age where everything has to be 100% or nothing works.

Up early here on the left coast....to the tune of 450am. The rain is driving, and the wind is howling. Can't really beat the arrival of the first good winter storm though! Wish I could stay indoors in some sweats, and play trains. Instead, I have to find my rain coat and head to w*rk. Did get most of the paint off my locomotive this weekend, so hopefully it can head to the paint shops this week. We'll see. Happy railroading.

Good Morning! Coffee please. G- Good luck today. Praying for you. Your hospitals sound like ours. Constant construction and parking is an afterthought. In fact they are just completing another big medical building of some sort, that they removed a parking lot for. So I ask, where are the people who used to park there going to park? Where are the people who go to the new building going to park? And… where are the employees of new building going to park? The answer? Well, they are building a multi level parking garage in another parking lot. Great? Not unless you are a doctor of some sort. They claim it would empty a few spots and the doc’s could get in to the patient quicker and they wouldn’t have to leave so soon from the GC if they didn‘t have to walk from a parking space. G- Good luck today. Praying for you. Your hospitals sound like ours. Constant construction and parking is an afterthought. In fact they are just completing another big medical building of some sort, that they removed a parking lot for. So I ask, where are the people who used to park there going to park? Where are the people who go to the new building going to park? And… where are the employees of new building going to park? The answer? Well, they are building a multi level parking garage in another parking lot. Great? Not unless you are a doctor of some sort. They claim it would empty a few spots and the doc’s could get in to the patient quicker and they wouldn’t have to leave so soon from the GC if they didn‘t have to walk from a parking space. So......, where are the people who parked there going to.... never mind.

Thanks for the well wishes.....Yeah, they did buy more land to build more parking into, but they had planned a parking garage in addition, which apparently now is scrapped due to lack of remaining money. They also had to build in a flood wall as the flood of 06 took over the bottom layer of the hospital and covered the parking lot. SO now...get this the parking lot is still in flood zone and the flood wall is up near and only to protect the hosptial! WHo cares if the patients or Dr.s cars get flooded. AND you can bet if they do manage to build the garage as you said. the Dr.s will be the first to get the spots high over flood level to save their cars!
Ah well progress.

Again I like to thank all that had answer about Tiff. She did fall one time yesterday in the Hallway, but was able to get back up by her self. So far today she is doing fine, hoping the Med is helping her.
Robby P Thanks for posting the pictures of the freight cars. I am starting to get interested in weathering again after looking at your work. Few years ago I weathered all the car's I added to my fleet. Then, well just stopped.

Well it is time to get out your winter gear. They are forecasting snow for the next couple of nights. We can never get by Halloween without sloppy weather. But they do say by Sat & sun the temps SHOULD be back into the double didgets.

You fellas were speaking about your four legged companions and their age. Well we have had a tough go in our dog family as of late. About a month ago our Mini Dashound "Buddy" departed with a coronary problem he was 14.5 years. Last Sat. morning my second Son's Great Pyrenese "Monte" who was 8.5 years passed with a lung problem and then last evening my oldest Son in Grande Prairie, Alberta who has three Airedales, had one of them pass away, "Duke"he was 10. It is strange, because he was a real healthy fellow while his litter mate brother "Jake" has had several problems and we expected him to be the first, but not so "Shakey Jake" is still on the go. It is a realy sad time when you lose a pet. They truly become part of your family and show so much love. Fortunatly for all I've mentioned we have other dogs so the pain is muted some. (not much).. But I definatley would not be without a dog, I have had many over the years and will continue to. All mainly Rescue Dogs.
It was very foggy here this morning, but is clearing up now. Still overcast though and will remain that way.
I sure enjoy the WPF each week. Great work being done there, "Impressive"
Really busy schedule at work here the next couple of weeks, not much time for anything else. Then Mid Nov. we'll go to Spokane again for ten days, looking forward to that break.
