Evenin' folks!

Flo just a decaf for me.

Joe.........  As an old teacher, i can tell you for sure THAT being tired is not an acceptable excuse for missing School!!!  OK, I'll be just look the other way and pretend i didn't hear THAT you are going to be Truant tomorrow.........  besides your just a young fella!  You are supposed to have lots of "get up and go!"  Us old guys all had our "Get ujp and go" "get up and went..." Sigh

Well (deep subject), the project is finished.... Or as finished as it will get for now.  Spent quite a bit of time freeing up each of the turnout points (and using many, many of those words...).  I added a good amount of powdered graphite after removing several little pieces of ballast THAT were in the wrong places.  Vacuumed the whole thing (several times actually) and made sure all the contacts and alignments were perfect (had to redo a couple of them underneath.  Now I just hope she takes the ride up to Rochester in the back of the car without incident!  Also did the paperwork for the Merit Award.  So....  We shall see what we shall see!?!  It will either make it or it won't.  if it doesn't, I at least should know exactly what needs to be changed to get it to pass.

Paul, good to see you sir!  been a while, but i know about w*rk round farms, etc.

I am going to turn in a bit early tonight to see if I can catch up on some Zzz.  Saturday will be a very early morning!  I will have the alarm clock set for 5:30AM.........

Later!

Been looking through some of the old computer parts I have for something I can use to build the fake computer for my van. So far I haven't found much to work with. Most of the stuff I have has very recognizable connectors that don't look anything like what you find on a car. This is starting to become a headache. I hope I find something useful soon but I just don't have any non-op ancient computer stuff around. Nearly all I have is stuff that even my nephew would recognize and he's got the computer literacy of a caveman.

Good Morning,

Cold, warm, wet, and windy here in Ohio; overnight temps are in the 40’s and day time temps are pushing up to the 70’s perfect combination for upper repertory infections and other unpleasantries. I built 40 apple trees last night, this afternoon I will be adding the apples and building some ladders for the clubs orchard.

Today and next week we are moving our office down the hall, should make for an interesting week.

Good Morning All,

mid 40's again this morning but the rain has stopped for now. I'll have a coffee and a grilled buttered hard roll please Zoe.

Jeff - I looked again for the Timex we used to have but I'm afraid it was in the attic when we had the fire and now resides at the land fill. If I find anything else, I'll let you know but most of what we have here are actual components from the various systems. I'll keep looking in the strage in the shop if you don't come up with anything else. it would be fun to program something to print a message in the screen of the OBDII scanner (like 5 seconds to auto destruct - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1Devil

Had to go rescue the "CFO" last evening. She called to say the mighty and majestic Ram 50 wouldn't restart so off I went with dually and enclosed trailer (really need to fit a winch to that trailer).  Got the rig turned around in the parking lot where she was and ran it into the trailer on the starter motor. Can't do that anymore as new cars have that stupid interlock to prevent you starting in gear. Oh well - progress!  Preliminary diagnosis is a bad fuel pump but we'll see.

Time to get to it in the shop. Good luck Ray - hope Mr Murphy stays home (sounded like he was visiting Ken actually).   CUL, J.R.

Good COLD morning.    Right now its 35 degrees, and the high will be about 58 degrees.

Well I think my camera isn't working to good.  I tried to take some pictures yesterday, and it seems like the white is real bright, and the sad thing is.....I didn't change anything on it.   I guess all of the dropping of it probably is to blame.

I still have a few cars to weather, and I only have a few weeks left.  I did find a website to do 1,000 business cards for $35.   They had a five star rating.   That's better than Staples wanting $35 for 200.

Have a good morning, and I will pop back in later.

Hi guys...not awake yet.

jeffrey-wimberly

Been looking through some of the old computer parts I have for something I can use to build the fake computer for my van. So far I haven't found much to work with. Most of the stuff I have has very recognizable connectors that don't look anything like what you find on a car. This is starting to become a headache. I hope I find something useful soon but I just don't have any non-op ancient computer stuff around. Nearly all I have is stuff that even my nephew would recognize and he's got the computer literacy of a caveman.

Jeffrey what you might could do, is go to a you-pull-it junkyard and get the oldest looking computer diagnostic port connector with lots of wire attached to it. Connect it in a proffessional manner to the edge of the fender or front and route the wires somewhere they disappear but are secured at the loose ends out of sight. THEN when a modern kid wants to attach his modern computer diagnostic machine to the port, either A} it won't fit cuz it's the earliest port  around and he has no adapter for it, or B} he won't get ANY READING on his fancy machine!

Just be sure the loose wires won't short out his new fangled machine!

ROTFLMFAO!

Joe ns3010-I agree with others being "tired" is NOT a vald excuse for missing school or w**k when you get to the real world!!!  Take your lumps about not doing homework too. You could miss a  pop quiz and fail out just cuz you are not there to take it. YOu posted that at 7:08 pm on MRR time so you had plenty of time to get some sleep and get up early to do homework. Just helpful hints, fella!

cudaken

Train Guest  Why is it ever time a guest comes over, nothing seems to work right? Whistling Jim came over and I had had more derailments and shorts in a hour and a half than I have in a month? Even my rock steady PCM Y6-b gave me grief? I was showing him how slow the Y6-b can craw around the layout. It shorted out on a turnout for no reason, all the wheels where on the track? It not like I just installed the turnout, been there for a month now?

Ken, trains are like trained pets or small children. They perform well for you only, but get shy around and act out in front of guests!

WEll I have a dental cleaning today. I know I have at least two cavities starting. I set up an appointment for one already and they don't schedule for more thatn one at a time. Hopefully today I can get Slovomir teh hygentist to set up another one for me.It sucks having soft teeth.

Then I have to rush off to the CPR to get spinal injections again so I will be down and out for the count later on with my back in agony before it gets better. Dunno if they are really helping or hindering.

So that my day how is yours??? Hope you have a great one

It would be nice if we had a You-Pull-It junkyard around here. I don't think they've heard of those here yet. The nearest junk yard here allows people to pull their own parts only if they know what they're doing and have their own tools. Otherwise a worker at the yard pulls the part and that can take hours before they even get to it. Finding a vehicle there that's old enough is going to be a pretty good trick as they usually crush anything beyond a certain age. They do have some old vehicles on the fringe of the yard though. The real trick will be getting back there to where they are as no vehicles are allowed in the yard.

Good Morning! Coffee please. Confusing day today, don’t know what I’ll get done at the house.

Ray- I was referring to the throws, sorry. Wrong term. Happens with me all the time so please don't be upset with yourself. I'll forgive you for paying attention to what I said not knowing what I meant Smile, Wink & Grin. Yes you answered my question. Kinda sorta. The ones I saw were in the Walthers flyer, but, if I remember correctly, did not look to be separate units like what you show. I think they had a “floor panel” and was a bank of several of them. Then again, you may have received them that way and decided not to use the panel. They may have been a model of the throws for inside detailing too, but somehow I’m thinking real ones. So to speak. Who knows, they may not be the same as yours at all.

Jeff- No computer stuff here. Me and them things don’t see eye to eye. And I definitely don’t have a laptop. However, I’ll look around to see if I have any old connectors that might look reasonable that I may not have thrown away during the great “Let‘s Get Real About This Stuff“ cleanup of a few years ago. There was a time when I would save crap like that to reside in a box until I tripped over it enough to put it out of the way and then forget about it and find it years later, only to go through it and decide I need to keep it all despite the fact I hadn't needed it yet.

Might come in handy. You just never know.

He does good to turn one on without crashing it. When he needs something looked up online he calls me and I look it up for him.

 Late Mourning for me.

 Flo, just a Diet Dew

Could not get on line this mourning. I don't know if the Computer has a virus, or if Charter Cable is having problems. Rebooted the computer 4 or 5 times, same with the cable modem, nothing. Started making back up files in case the problem it is the computer.

Getting ready to do some running and for the heck of it I fired up the computer, it working now?

Bright side is I did work on the layout a little. Got some more road cut from the Fun Foam. Pulled some old staples out of the layout and later today I will get the passenger train station wood painted brown.

While I was working on the layout trains ran fine for a hour and a half. Figures doesn't it, have a guest over everything go nuts.

If you don't see for a while, you will know the computer is off line.

 Later Ken

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have one of those Butter Rum Muffins with real butter to go along with my dark raost coffee in a R&GV RR mug please.

Joe, what is worse is being a teacher who falls asleep during a Middle School Final Exam.....  No. no, not me!  I have come close a few times....  Can you say booooorrrrrriiiiinnnnnng?  Luckily it was in one of those rare classes where the test could be given without a teacher there and no one would cheat...  Yes there are still some classes like THAT.  i have had 8th. graders fall asleep in my class.  No my class was not considered boring!!! Grumpy  One girl used to come in to class and fall asleep within minutes of arriving.  I would let her sleep for a few minutes then go over to her desk and make faces at her, much to the amusement of the other students.  Then she would wake up with a start when the others would start laughing.  One time I let her sleep right through dismissal and the arrival of the next class.  She was very embarrassed when she woke up...  i felt embarrassed for that after she was diagnosed with Narcolepsy......

Last night as I was getting ready for bed I realized THAT Manét was not around and I hadn't seen him since lunch time....  I called his name and started looking ll his usual hiding places.  Nowhere to be found...  I started to panic thinking he may have somehow gotten outside (He is an indoor, declawed kitty, and hasn't been outside in 9 years or so.)  I sat down on my bed to ponder what to do, when I heard a faint thumping.....  Got up and started opening doors to closets and rooms I use for starage.  Open the guest bedroom door, and out walks  very scared and upset Manét.  he had gone in there, evidently, when I brought out the box of materials I need for the Meet....  He was not happy.  he hs been by my side ever since he got found ((sitting right by the computer as I type).

Have to get everything finished and pcked in the car for tomorrow.  need to leave home round 7AM to get to the Meet.  Best get moving!

Later!

Good evening ....

We're trying to catch up after our trip.

Morgan ... Do you like that aluminum dining car? I recall, those aluminum cars were common.

Cheers!

Suredo. Need to do something for decalling though, there's no place for lettering, so a letterboard must be added. the Decals directly on the rinning just don't look good. And I need to do a train-test to see just how much difference there is from the aluminums to the modern cars, for fear of wrecking the illusion. But I do like the looks of them immensly.

I think I'll have a Grande' vanilla latte with non-fat whip...oh, and a slice of wheat toast and a fruit cup please....oh....and since this is T.O.P....the top shelf is on my tab all day.

Finally back home after a "trip" up the road to Seattle.....plan to hit the gym, clean then house and then I'm going to tuck in at my desk. I have some centerflow hoppers that need some attention. Not to mention I have some well cars and containers that need an all around dirtying up and rusting. Should be a good afternoon here in the Sound.

Hey folks, didn't get a chance to stop by yesterday. Had a field trip after school that lasted until after 8. It was a SAMS club field trip and we went to Adventure Crossing in Augusta to play lasertag. That course was AWESOME! they had two levels, barriers everywhere, but plenty of spots to hide, ambush, and plenty of shooting lines haha.

Well not much planned for this 4 day weekend, other than the football game tonight.

I have also posted my Atlas GP9 for sale on a different forum. That was my first Atlas N scale loco and my first reliable loco. However the CSRY really doesn't have a spot for her, and I'd rather she be going to a layout that can use her. And anyways, the money from that sale will pay for the new benchwork.

Hello everybody.

On the layout, I am now constructing a bakery. This is a large trackside bakery for baking bread and so on. This will be the destination for carloads of flour from my flour mill.

Morgan, I have installed letterboards on old aluminum cars before. The best thing for me was strips of Everygreen plastic of appropriate size. The boards above the windows for road name were wider than the ones below the windows for car number or name. I spray painted the plastic strips with aluminum color paint and cut to correct length. I glued them to the cars and applied decals.

Evening guys!

I see KYLE_Y has top honors so he has to pick up our tabs gents! I will have the Chicken Cordon Bleu, asparagus spears, Augratin potatos {we call em "rotten potatos"}, a buttermilk biscuit adn an "Absolute Mess"  to Drinks. Thanks Kyle for picking up the tab!!!

WEll dental cleaning ok.

CPR did more injections but I swear I am in more agony than when the started the cortisone injections. Posta see him agian in a month for consultation on how I'm doing...hate to tell him not much beter and getting worse as each day goes by. I use the cane around the house now as a matter of course.

See a thread on Rod STewart again. He asys even Phil COllins has MMRing in his blood, along with Roger Daltry. WE are in some good company, and I know the younger set here probably have no idea who these people are. you know you are older when a young'un says "who?" when you mention a lifelong famous person to you. You also know you are getting to be old when the Dr. doesn't look old enough to be one yet! ANd when the plumber shows up with an assistant who you don't think is even old enough to drive yet, let alone be a plumber's assistant trainee. ah well.

OMG! they are taking over!!!  "who"? "the young people!!!

I digress. Or is that digest?

Y'all know i bought my other half an N scale GG1 with knuckle couplers. then cuz all our N scale passenger cars have rapido couplers on them, I did some research and found the GG1 did indeed haul freight as well as passenger though noted for passenger service. SO I bought some knuckle couplers freight cars so there'd be something to pull behind it, as I couldn't find passenger cars that didn't have rapido couplers on them and danged if I'm gonna try to change N scale tiny knuckle couplers. SO...I finally found some N scale PRR passenger cars with knuckle couplers at $34 a pop for 3 different flavors. I decided to order two commuters and one sleeper as other half likes sleepers as well. WEll today I found only the commuters are still listed as available and the others are all gone! Then I remember we bought knuckle coupler Santa Fe older passenger set with baggage car and all at Strasburg RR shop in July. Wrong RR for the GG1 but could be redecaled to PRR??? The Santa Fe set contains 4 cars that cost $54 already and another fancy open air passenger car fancied by the other half for another $21.

SO my Question to you all is: should I hurry up and order the more correct  3 PRR Coummuter cars before they, too, disappear  to be correctly pulled behind the GG1 or save the $120 for cars, shipping and taxes on the CC and just use the Santa Fe cars behind the GG1 for now???

I think my other half would be happy either way?

And trying to find a PRR caboose of any type now is the proverbial needle in a haystack.

Well, I should go for now whilest I ponder and await your responsesADvice please! Will check back later.

Evenin' folks!

Flo I'll have the New York Strip steak, med rare, baked potato with sour cream and the mixed vegetables along with a trip to the salad bar.  Oh and a tall glass of lemonade as well.

Pssst...  Galaxy.....  What the heck is a "Latte"????  THAT isn't one of them new fangled newvoah fakey coffee thingies with lots of arty-ficial flavorings dumped in them so you don't have to taste the coffee is it?  It is?  THAT's what I thought.  So the new kid is one of "Those" huh?  THATs OK!  We get along with all people as long as they like Model Railroading!  Yep!

Kyle, you'll have to forgive me.  I'm one of those guys who goes into a starbucks and asks if they serve coffee!!!  They always reply that they have 8974 different flavors.....  I say, no son were taking about two different things here.  I want coffee!  No vanilla, carmel, fudge, royale, sissy stuff.  COFFEE!  Ever heard of it.  It comes in Coffee Flavor.....  THAT is about when my sister slaps me and I ask if there is any place nearby THAT serves COFFEE......... WhistlingStick out tongueLaugh

What a day....  The car is finally packed with everything I need for the Meet tomorrow....  Except for all those things I keep remembering now THAT the car is all packed!

My son came over and helped me move the module up from the basement.  We got it in the car and I showed how the Humpyard Turnout Levers w*rked.  He tried them a few times turned to me and grinned...  He also left his two daughters with Grandpa for about an hour so he could go to w*rk, his wife could attend meeting at the school where she teaches. and Grandpa could play with his granddaughters.  Life is tough sometimes! Smile, Wink & GrinThumbs Up

OK, I'll pop in later!

 Evenings folks.

Flo just a Beer for now.

Today was a wast except when the computer was not working. Did my running and that did go quicker than I thought it would. After that, pretty much down hill. Had to fax some paper work that I got and kept getting poor line connection readout. So I had to run the paper work in, wasted a few more gallon's of gas.

Has Ulrich posted about is Farther and I missed it?

Robby P What do you typical get for one of your cars on E Bay? All so what do you charge a customer for weathering a car for them? I do admire your work, and one of these day's when I am back on my feet I be proud to have a few of your rolling masterpieces on my layout.

Well I am done for today, OH, not a derailment for 4 hours. Just don't understand how a guest can up set the Train's Karma?

Hey guys

Another busy day. Worked from 6 till 3. When I got done with work, I had to walk 2 miles to pick up my car from the exhaust shop. Sounds good, but it cost a bit more that I though since one of the pipes around a cat was cracked. Go from there through town and got gas. Wasn't sure what octane the 94 GT needed, but someone told me regular. Being skeptical I only put a little bit of regular in. When I got out onto the highway to get to the tax collector's office on base I hear pinging (yeah, probably should have used plus or premium). Get to that tax collectors office to transfer my tag and title and find out the guy I bought the car from forgot to sign the title from when he bought it. Go back to his place so he can sign the title. There's another tax collecor's office near there so I run over there and get it switched over for $280.00. Although the the lady who helped me at the second tax collector's office was smokin hotDevil

On the way home the check engine light comes on, so I go to Autozone to use the code reader. Couldn't find the computer reader plug or the old EEC plug that gets jumpered. So I head home. Washed the car and cleaned up the tires. Tommorow gonna detail it and try to find where the code reader is. (might have been me using regular)

Ken, the reason why the layout didn't work right during the visit was Mr. Murphy paid you a visit, lol

Galaxy, Didn't some of the SF cars get used on prr trains. Maybe re-decalling the atsf cars to the prr stainless ones would work.

Saywer, A GP9 would fit a short line better than a U23B or a GP35.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Morning,

Janie, you are my life saver - I need to a strong coffee to perk me up a little. Thank you.

Came home VERY late from my parent´s place. My father is on the road to improvement, although the docs don´t have a clue on what caused him to fail. I also have a hunch that they don´t give him the attention he should get, maybe they think he is old enough now to go. Had quite a fight with them! Can you imagine that he was taken to the nearest stroke unit by helicopter and then had to wait 3 hours for someone to show up to take care? The benefits of cost cutting management in our health care system - no, Janie, no need to wake up Vinnie, I am off the soap box already.

My own batteries start to run low and need to be recharged - I will try to get some rest this weekend.

You all have a good one!

Yes, they did swap Baggage cars and a sleeper or two. So one could always justify a GG1 pulling a pair of sleepers in ATSF and PRR and some coahes, might toss in a diner if you find one. I'd look at changing the copelrs though, I though the Rapidos on Dad's old equipment was held in by a plastic pin the way some Bachmann talgos are in HO, flex the pin down, remove the coupler, felx it back up. But I could be wrong

The Santa Fe and the open air touring passenger cars all have knuckle couplers already. THe GG1 has knuckle couplers. The new PRR commuter cars I am thinking of buying are knuckle couplers. SO I DON'T have to do any changing as long as they all play well together. I made sure of that, as I bought the GG1 in march and the santa fes my other half bought  in July I made sure they had knuckle couplers or else I would have discouraged the purchase.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Good Morning! COFFEE please. No cream, no sugar just black coffee. Thank you.

For years and years and years, I have said it would happen and they all laughed. Laughed and said “not likely” or worse. Now I get to say “I told you so”

The RANGERS ARE IN THE WORLD SERIES!!!!! ( ahem)  sorry.

Might have to trade out my cowboy hat for a (gulp) sports cap. “T”

I decided to w**k for a guy this evening, so he can go play Magic. Yup he's an adult, but doesn't poke fun at Model Railroaders. He has his own cross to bear. So won’t have all day at Mom’s house. Oh well. It pays.

Ray- I hear you on the coffee. I used to do that myself. When they did point out the coffee flavored coffee, and I was told the amount I was to pay, I responded “ MY GOSH! I said I want coffee. Not black liquid gold! McDonalds is waaaaay cheaper. This stuff better be good.” Then I take a sip, squinch up my nose and say. “McDonalds get their coffee from you? Or do you get it from them?”

Galaxy- Boy, I don’t know. Prototypical and all. Eventually I would get the proper cars or paint what I have it they are correct styles. For now I  would keep what I have and change just the lead coupler on a passenger car, and maybe the lead coupler on a freight or two and always use them as the lead cars should this service pull freight and passengers. Ignore them so to speak. Make up some reason they are picked up and dropped off, off of the layout. Yep, That’s probably what I’d do.

Ulrich- That’s pretty good news I suppose about your Fathers improvement. You mention age as a factor in the type of care he gets. Believe you me, often times I wonder the same thing with my Mother. Her personal Physician is not that way, but at the hospitals and Nursing Homes, her existing is taken care of. Her correcting the problem part though, seems to be very……..lackluster I’ll just say.

Welp, rains a comin’. Almost here. It's here. Best get to Mom’s. No mowing today.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Good Morning All,

Back in the shop this morning to get some Govt' w..k done. New fuel pump for the mighty and majestic Ram 50 and continue with the Aspire which is nearly finished. The pump looks to be a pain as the carb which is water cooled needs to come off to get the pump to clear which means drain the coolant againBang Head etc. Oh well, here's the coffee in a poke and I'm off.

Galaxy - unless you get a bunch with the old couplers, even the less expensive cars now come with the Rapido style coupler. We have bunches of both at the museum so we've made up a couple of "adaptor cars" with one of each coupler so we can adapt things. For the moving parts of the display, I prefer the old style couplers as they don't seem as finicky and don't decouple in use (and the displays get a ton of use). I think the biggest issue is proper weighting of the cars and use of metal wheel sets. The plastic wheels seem to get a layer of crud fairly quickly just like my HO stuff used to do.

 Good morning.

Well we are off to do some shopping this morning, and ship some train cars to California .    Not much planned for me today, but maybe cleaning up the basement.

Todd.........Maybe one day I can say "Cubs make the World Series!!!!"

Ken........A basic weathered job is $30.   Just a normal looking car.  Not to much rust, but just enough weathering to make it look used.   It also depends on the work I have in the car, as far as price.   I sell most of my cars on ebay for $60 (buy it now).    Then if I have more work involved the price  goes up.    The most I ever sold a car for was a Rock Island hopper $150.00.  A engine went for $235.00.

I will pop back in later.
