I made my 20 cent repair on the brake light switch today. Glued a couple dimes together with JB Weld the glued them to the brake pedal strut with a small spot of JB Weld and left them pinched between the pedal strut and the switch. I'll go back out in a while and see how it's holding. Just hope I don't glue the whole mess together.

Jim........I'm selling cars, but eBay is KILLING me with fee's.   I just paid them $63 dollars, for one month!!!!  I'm still debating on what o do with that (keep selling, or make another website and sell).

you could try making an online store with freewebs.com; free domain name etc.

well, I was tired today, stayed up to watch the Boise State/Virginia Tech game last night, BOISE STATE WON!!! :D no one really showed up for the rugby game; those of us that did just ran a few drills and left.

Hey Flow, what the special tonight? Fried Catfish and Hus-puppies sound great! I will all so take a side of Greek Salad and a Beer in a chilled Monon mug please. (making my self hungry again)

Galaxy Good news on them catching the fraud.  I have two checking account, one is for my normal funds, the other is for the internet. Both are free accounts, when I want to buy something on line I just transfer the funds. Hum, gulp till the other day and I bought some Johnny Lighting cars. Whistling

Lawnmower Called Home Depot about the POS, as long as I have my recite they will do a exchange. If this one is another POS, I spend the money to get my old Central Hardware mower fixed. It was a much better mower, three speed transmission, throttle and choke control, it had ever thing! (flash back to Deep Purple song High Way Star)

 Train Front

Next project, I am going to install a decoder into a old Rubber Band Drive RDC-1 car. Why you ask? Because I can.Smile, Wink & Grin Seen main page.

Then I need to get back on the Athearn SD-50. Decoder is installed but sometimes the motor makes a racket. Going to try some A T F on the bearings, have heard good things about it. If that does not do it, will try new bearings for the motor.

Robby P I am going to the ST Louis Boeing Train show / Swap meet. Anything I should look for, for you?

Jeffery Thank you for the link. Did you have any trouble down loading the Anti Viruses? While it was up dating it locked up after 14 of the 15 updates? I used Go Back to wipe the hard drive and will try again.

 Well the Catfishes is here.

             Type at you all later.

Well I made it to the LHS  (picked up three cars), and the owner said he would help me out for the train show.  Give me a good discount or so.  I also have a "weathering powder" company that will help me out also.  So its starting to line up.

Sawyer......I have a freewebs account, but mainly to show my cars.  I thought about starting a website, but I won't have the "buyers" like I would have on eBay.    That's what sucks!!

Ken.......Thanks for the lookout for me.  I really don't know how many cars I need, or what kind.  I know Railboxs are a BIG it.   BUT...........I like for them to be Athearns.   Mainly the *ready to roll* series.   Plus it would depend on the price.    I will have to make a list soon thou.    Thanks thou!!!!!

Hey guys, no, nothing for me today.

Galaxy, Ouch, that hurts just thinking about it. I use my debit card for online purchases and I check my balance online religiously. No matter if its been used recently or  not. If I never have to deal with that, I'll be too happy.

Well, school's been a pain in my neck. Spanish is making me hopelessly lost, Auto shop is taking a while. Well, I'm one of a few who know what I'm dealing with, even though I'm used to quads and old farm equipment.

Speaking of quads, my quad's been pulling to the right while riding at speed, well I started working on the front end and the right front brake is hanging up. The caliper is fine, there's nothing wrong in the lines, so I'm gonna drive down to the polaris dealer and buy a new caliper

If you can read this... thank a teacher. If you are reading this in english... thank a veteran

When in doubt. grab a hammer.

If it moves and isn't supposed to, get a hammer

If it doesn't move and is supposed to, get a hammer

If it's broken, get a hammer

If it can't be fixed with a hammer... DUCK TAPE!

Hey guys, what's doing? Haven't been in here in forever!

Not going to attempt to catch up on a month of posts, but I just happened to see Sam's post.

Sam- what's this about working for VRE? I assume THAT my guess about why is right. If it is, at least you were lucky enough to grab a job down there. Good luck getting back in the seat!

School started last Wednesday. More on THAT (hopefully) tomorrow, if I FINALLY get my computer back!

Sorry guys, I can't hang around. But I'll be back on much more once I get my computer back, I promise!

Tall glass of cool lemon water, please.

***Galaxy, good thing the CC company caught it. We've gone through the same thing once before.

***Jim, usually order from whichever online store is cheapest. And I wait until there are enough items we (mostly the wife) wants, so with the cost of shipping it's reasonable.

Haven't made it into the train room lately, except to open the windows at night to air it out.  Going to need to "make" some MRR'ing time soon, less I go crazier than I already am.Hmm

Hope everyone is doing well.

Cheers! Cowboy

Sawyer, the freeweb site wouldn't have the advertising that an EBAY search gives you. They don't hook into Google. Also, there's no free automatic store. He could put up pages for what he has, but sales would have to go through PayPal still. Mostly, the issue is in the advertising.

Robby: You mentioned something about having cars for others to practicew on. Would a few Bachmanns work for that? Not that I'm trying to get rid of any, but...

Well Flo, looks like it just you and me so far this mourning. I will take a big Dew and a BLT please.

Robby P I am sure you have heard of Yahoo HO Yard Sale. It is a free site and you can post pictures there as well. Sure does not get the hits that E Stupid does, but does not take long to list something either. I have been off E Bay going on 3 years. When I was selling it was took awhile to list something.

My self, while at the train show I will be looking for either Accurail Covered Hopper Kits, old Blue Box Covered Hoppers and flat cars.

By the way Robby, I don't remember you doing any engines. Have you done any?

Jeffery Thanks for the heads up, I will try to load it again in a little bit.

 See you all later.

Good Morning!

We are having dull dull dull skies with lots of petulant winds out here this morning--only a 30% of showers--and even then just microdribblebits.

Have a bunch of things that got to be done--so I better be off and get them done.

Have a good one guys!!

Good Morning,

I came across a funny bit of history today concerning Railroad Bridges;

Duluth, Missabe & Northern Railway Co.’s Telegraph Line.

RAINER, MN

MOOSE STOPPES ON DRAW BRIDGE

CANNOT BE LIFTED

OCT 17 1910

Ken did you dip the tip of the plug in gasoline then try and start it? I had SSI for my kids when I was an E5.  Keep a photo copy of your taxes and pay stubs in a safe place.  I was audited several times by the SSI people and it wasn’t fun, but things would have been easier if I kept current documents ready to go.

Robby, there is a large circle of model railroaders around me and there are two big layouts people visit every month (one of them is a basement Walther’s dealer, yes he has been visited by Walther’s and passed inspection).  If you could make 2 cars with your contact information I imagine you would get a few orders.  They would have to be a rail line that passed through Ohio or it wouldn’t go over well with some of the locals.

Ken it’s not the motor making a racket in your ATLAS. We had two SD9 units at the club layout doing the same thing and it was in the trucks.  Buy some Labelle oil and when you inspect the Atlas trucks you will find an oil hole.  Run the needle of the oil bottle all the way down into the hole and apply a small amount of oil then run the locomotive about 3 feet then re-oil, you’ll need to do this about 3 times before the noise stops.  It’s a tough spot to oil but after about 20 minutes of work the sound will go away.

Credit Cards; I learned from a friend that it doesn’t matter if you use it online or not.  Friends bank switched from MC to Visa.  They had no balance on their account.  They activated the card and put it in their safe, it’s an emergency/vacation card only.  About 3 months later a company from Arizona called, the husband had used the card to buy a $300 pair of batmitten shoes and the company called to verify the purchase. They found someone got their CC number and maxed out the card.  If you knew my friend who is on O2 you would know he doesn’t play too many sports.

Good morning.  Its another cool day.  The high will be about 66 degrees.   Someone told me, that if I want this kind of weather all year....Move to San Fransisco.

I'm going to try to finish up a boxcar today.   Plus I have about two more to go.  Then a new customer has some he is sending me.   It looks like I will be hiding in the basement for awhile.  Also a store near me "Ollies (kinda like Big Lots)" has some IHC trucks, a building, and a few other things for a dollar or two.   I think the building is $9.99.  Its the "Novelty Iron Works".    No train cars thou.   Those might sell at the show.

The Bachmann cars would be perfect.  Hold on to them, and I will let you know if I need them in a few weeks.

Lee.......I might keep that in mind.  You would have to let me know what they run, and maybe I can send something to them.

Ken........I've done about 5-6 engines.   I will only have about one for sale at the show.   They are a bit more time consuming but they look 100% better when done.

LSWrr, on the mower it will start, then die. So adding some gas to the tip of the plug won't help. Thanks for the idea.

On the SD-50, it is a Athearn RTR not a Atlas. I know it the motor bearings making the racket. I pulled the drive shafts and the racket was still there. As I added lube, it made less racket but was still not quite. Think I will go play with it now.

              Thanks for the tips.

Good Morning, fried egg with cheese and a couple strips of bacon on Texas toast and coffee please and thank you.

Looks like temps in the mid seventies rest of the week so the AC is off!!

Contractor friend of Brenda’s (very, VERY good work) offered to lay the floor in the kitchen and family room at mom’s for $1.75 square foot. He usually charges $2.25 and the going rate for Lowe’s and Menard’s is 2 bucks. Mom wants me to hire it out. She says I’m spending too much time doing things for her and stuff. It would get done in lesst than a day and not use up any of my blades etc.

Credit Cards, I too know of someone a few years ago who, like Lee’s friend, had a Credit card they had for emergencies and vacations etc. they had just got a new account for a new card and hadn’t used it yet. Had it for a couple months and a charge showed up one statement. They called and found several other charges had been made since the statement cutoff. It got straightened out, but never could figure out how the number and name got out. The Credit company (Bank of America) said they didn’t know either on a card that had never been used. Kinda makes you wonder.

I don’t have much of a problem using the cc on the internet. I only use it for businesses I know are legit and figure it’s as secure as the system Walmart or any business uses to send the info at the end of the day. Besides, I’ve known several people, Mom being one, who has had charges on cards they didn’t make and a call to the card company got it straightened out and they didn’t owe anything. Dealing with fraudulent charges is much easier than the commercials want you to believe.

Well, I best get a move on. Especially since all I had to say was the first two sentences.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Well, I have finally given up on the Ready To Repair Athearn SD 50. Messed with it for a hour, buzzing is still there, with and with out drive shafts.

So later today I am going to open the motor and hope I understand what I see! Starting to think a magnet has came lose. Really can't feel in play on the shaft.

Good morning. It's 76, cloudy and extremely humid. The high will be 92 and there's a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

My van is almost ready for inspection. The only thing left to add is head lights. I took care of the problem with the brake light switch yesterday. All it took was two dimes, some JB Weld and a little time. Now the brake lights turn off when I take my foot off the brake. The head lights will cost about $30 for all 4, problem is I don't have the $30. This morning I got the last of my stuff out of the car. I called the scrap yard yesterday to come get it. They're running a backlog right now but they'll be out to make me an offer on it and pick it up as soon as they can.

Good morning........

Lee mentioned audits from SSI. We've been thru IRS audits. Also, State of MI when we lived there. Don't like audits. Grumpy

Ken ... Sounds like a bad motor if drive shafts are not connected and it buzzes.

Barry .... The vines migrated there, eh. Wow. Yesterday, I saw the power compnay work crew pulling vines off polls and lines here.

My new trestle seems to be working fine. No derailemnts yet. When I have company is when that will happen.

Good Afternoon Folks,

it has been a pretty bad day for me today - received some nasty letters from our counselor administering our bankruptcy. My heart rate went skyrocketing and I felt a tremendous pain in my chest. I am feeling a little better now that Petra is back from the GULAG. Seems as if we are in for some more rough times.

Zoe, just a decaf for me, please.

Have a good day.

Morning guys,

On the Credit Card and it being comprimised: Thank you for all your concerns and ideas BUT:

To those who say they only use a debit card deducted from their bank account, I had problems with THAT. Had to close down an account completely because someone {online} was rebilling and rebilling the debit card and the only way to stop it really was to close the account, even with fraud alert as they have something like 50 days to verify whether the charge is "legit" or not.

On the idea of having an amount deducted from a checking account with the routing number and a check number to an online service, I had THAT comprimised too with additional non stop billing untill I shut down the checking account. There are fewer "stop loss" preventions in place with a checking account and/or debit card transactions than there are with a CC. They generally don't monitor checking account activity as much as CC activity, which is why I never got notified in EITHER above case from  the bank UNTIL I got BOUNCED CHECKS notifications in the mail!!!  I never bounce checks or write checks until the amount is in the account. Fortunately my bank restored teh bounced check fees once I reported the problem to them. Since eliminating such uses on my new checking accounts, I have had no problems with either checking account. I also NEVER do any banking or bill paying online for reasons of hacking. OBVIOUSLY no matter how "secure" a transaction may appear to be, it can be comprimised, and I don't need anyone with access to my checking or savings account if I use online banking services. I am not that sure taht I won't be comprimised like before or like my CC was.

I do have other cards, but I use only the Visa for online purchases and other purchases {such as over the phone}  that may be easily comprimised beyond my control. They all but vehicle repairs get paid off monthly. Vehicle repairs on one card can require a few months to pay off if the bill is high.

The only one I really worry about is the Visa as it can be hacked from computer use, and IT was the one that was comprimised. I used it quite a bit last Christmas before teh "black monday online shopping" {when apparently a LOT of CC get comprimised} and though I was in t he clear as no rogue charges appeared until they called me the other day. That is how some thieves work, they get the card info, wait several months then rack up charges. That is why I use only the ONE CARD online, adn use only a CC- as I have more fraud protection than a debit card, or using the direct access to my checking account. How else am I to order that gp30 I drool over or the Mike I see and want online??????. I need ot order some other stuff online but am affraid to use the new replcaement card already.

I have notified the other cards taht I have had a card comprimised so if strange charges show up they have it noted on my account that I may have an identity theft problem, NOT just a CC comprimsed.I also have a ID THeft service I pay for each month on my MC that I notified so they could note my account in case other loans or such shows up that may signify that not only was my CC info hacked, but maybe my ID as well. They will provide help should taht ever happen, and I have troubles.

I AM greatful that the Visa CC company called me about the rogue charges appearing on my card BEFORE it got out of hand and before I had a "denied" for use somewhere in using it that I wasn't expecting. You don't get that kind of service with a debit card or with auto deductions from your checking account untill it is too late and your account has been wiped out!!!  BTDT won't do it agian!

I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else, but it will as long as there are thieves to steal what you have..

A yicky day today. chilly, coudy chances of rain etc.

The cold is settling in my chest now and I hope it doesn't get any worse. The Dr.. really can't do much but give you antibiotics which dont work often and are nto really meant to fight anything but virus infections. SO I suffer with my aceteminaohen, sudafed an cough syrup. I could kill those who designed crystal meth and manufactured it using sudafed as now you can only buy a limited supply per month and the generic new OTC sudafed doesn't work for me.

WEll I should close as I have written my mornign book now and bored you all to tears. Maybe I have opened a few eyes with my tale of comprimisation of the CC.

Mornin' everyone!  (Mornin' Bill!)

Zoe I'll have a couple eggs over easy, a double order of sourdough toast and bring over the strawberry preserves.  Oh!  Don't forget the dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug!

Got a phone call about the truck before I even got out of bed this morning.  Then played phone tag a couple of times trying to get back in touch with the service manager....  He finally called when I wasn't on the phone to someone else or indisposed........  He told me it is the front passenger side bearing and said good call!  The truck will pass inspection with no problems and will come home with the so called "5 & 20" guarantee.  All the repair shops and dealers alog routes 5 & 20 around here offer the same guarantee.  That amounts to a 100%, complete coverage up to the time the front wheels touch the pavement on Routes 5 & 20......

I was just about to post here last night when the light show began so the computer went off line in a hurry.  Big thunderstorm rattled through the area for about an hour and a half.  Cats were frightened....  Blackie disappeared under the big chair in the living room, and Manét wanted to be held the whole time while starring out the window at every flash.  A couple hit fairly close, but we didn't lose power.  Currently 62°F outside under cloudy skies.  High will get all the  way up to 65°F during the rain this afternoon.  Nice not having the air conditioner on!

I dealt with Credit Card Fraud Folks last Spring...  They were refusing my card at some places locally.  There had not been any fraudulant charges on the card, but had been watching the card as it was among a group of Credit Union Cards THAT had been compromised earlier.  What set off the series of refusals was a purchase I made from Fast Tracks in Canada.  I finally went down to the CU and talked with the credit manager.  She had been having the same thing happen to her.  I just closed THAT card and got another.  Problem solved.  Oddly enough, as long as you know the company you are dealing with online to be OK, you are safer making charges online than in person.  Very easy for a card to be compromised at brick and mortar stores. I also check my Credit Card account several times a week online.

Barry....  Kudzu?  In Ontario, CA?  The poison ivy around here is bad enough........

Deacons meet tonight for our first meeting since June.  Have lots of stuff to print off and get ready, but most of the day may allow some MRR time, I hope.

Best get moving!

Later!

Robby, the Northern Ohio Operators Group in Chardon, OH run every third Saturday of the month.  They are closed in February for maintenance and have been running since 1962.  They have about 200 members and are all DC operators running mostly diesels and modern rolling stock.

The Geauga-Lake-Northern runs once a month (typically the second Monday of the month) from September through June with about 50 members providing they don’t get snow bound.   The GLN group spends serious money on their hobby and all are DCC operators.  Typically they run all new BLI steam Locomotives or Tenshendo brass.

Afternoon folks!

Rather dead in here today.....  Everyone must be outside enjoying the crisp Fall weather THAT has crept in. Right now it is 62°F outside.  High for the day got all the way up to 68°F a couple hours ago for about 10 minutes.  Going down in the 50's by 8PM.  Guess it's time to find the light jacket to wear to Deacons.

I have spent all day getting materials ready for tonight and helping out with getting a presentation ready for the Church Finance committee concerning some wireless microphones....  (We just found out our whole system is in the recently banned range, so We will be very quickly replacing everything).  I have some they can use in the meantime that are still legal.

So much for hobby stuff for today!

Janie how about a cup of hot chocolate to tide me over 'til dinner?

HA! Home early again!. Actually I don't reeally want to be, as I have plenty to do yet on the house. However, due to several delays in "quick" things I had to do and a long earbending about the Fall Festival, I didn't get much done today and decided since both neighbors cut their grass  should mow. I did and now I'm done. The dog is very mad that I didn't come in the house first and instead went right straight to the shed and began mowing. She sure let me know when I came in. Wow, what a butt chewing she gave me. Now she's fine. Had a couple treats and is sprawled on the floor all tuckered out. Throat probably sore too if you aks me.

Credit  cards are the only thing I use on the net. That is a ghost figure until I approve and pay. The debit card stays in the pocket. I do use the debit card for some purchases at only certain places, so I am open I guess, but like someone says, once you give someone a check you are just as vulnerable. They have everything they need to electronically drain you. 6 one way half a dozen the other I guess.

Ray- We also ran into a problem with the microphones for the wireless sound system at our Church. Just stepped up to wireless and less than a year after we purchased it. POW! illegal. Needed new stuff earlier this year. Bang Head

Brenda just walked in the door. Harvest has started. Best get going on supper. Many late nights for her to come.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Evening, large plate of fries and a tall 7-Up please.

OK, somebody please explain to me why these wireless systems are now banned/illegal. Is it due to the govt's stupid wide-band/narrow-band crap THAT forced digital TV upon the masses, and will force my Fire Dept. to get new radios next year??? Angry

I'm starting to wonder what will be banned/illegal next...welcome to "soft tyranny." SoapBox

Has anybody heard from...I think it was, Nik.n lately?? He was the guy asking/talking about old Civil Defense sirens some months back. I know a lady who can put him in touch with the right people to ask about acquiring one. I "should" be interviewing her soon, about her life-long involvement in "poly-ticks."

Gotta keep moving...
