Jeff, yes sir that looks a lot better. except for Chemsitry if the teacher can't teach, but I've heard he can so I may actually learn about elements this year!

Chris, nice pick you tacked up while running away, good skill. A death tax? seems the government won't even let us do the one thing we absolutely have to do in life.

Galaxy, you have a good point there. and I can knock out my homework, or at least a chunk of it, in study hall.

TSF, looks like your mind will be working at the end of the day man. I wouldn't mind going to the weight room and lifting instead of study hall, but my next two years are pretty much preplanned as far as courses so I won't have time to take weight lifting.

Barry, dern man, that's a long list.

Taxes, well, Marxism at work there folks.

Anyways I'm down to about 40 pages of summer reading left :D and then I have spanish to study >:(

*walks in and notices all the people on the floor and flo with the skillet*

Looks like I missed in on some of the fun. At least that skillet was cold. My mom used to hit me with a HOT one from time to time. Trust me a cold skillet is less worse than a hot one.

Robby, looking good as usual

Jim, something like that, lol. I don't actually have a layout. What I'm doing now is stockpiling stuff so that when I do build one I don't have to hunt for cars and rolling stock. The discontinuation of kits and the limited production fad have a lot to do with that. But yeah, I'm starting to run out of room...

Allhegeny, We have bear issues around here. One was hit by a truck a little bit (as within 250 feet) down the road. Some neigbors have said they've seen one on my front yard a little before dawn. Luckily I haven't run into one when walking out to my car in the morning.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

 Good Evening All!

Nothing for me today, I was home sick.  Not sure if it's bad allergies, or if I have a cold.

I am looking for a "dummy" C&NW loco HO scale, for the diorama I am working on.  If anyone has a link to where I can buy one, or if you have one you would like to part with, please let me know.

I was able to get the rocks painted, and the ground color on the diorama, it has been a fun first time project for me and the boy so far.  I hope to get the ground cover on this week, when I start feeling better.

Packers, That's Freshman and Sophomore year for me. Junior is filled with stuff for the ACT. Oh, and did I mention that I am a country boy going to high school in a shady part of town? I've seen kids get escorted out of class to a cop car in handcuffs.

Good Afternoon All,

Is the coast clear? I have enough lumps on my noggin already (CFO says it's the rock in my head trying to escape). I'm not going to get into th whole tax discussion thing except to say that we all need to band together and vote rather than let a small sliver of the poplation decide how things are gonna be run.

On another note, I am actually looking at a leased Volt. Seriously, I drive less than 25 miles a day when I'm at the shop and a hybrid I could charge off the regular grid might make sense. The fact that it also has a gas motor and a much longer range for longer trips is appealing - more so than a straight electric. You also have to understand that in a previous lifetime i was head of a research shop developing new cooling systems to cut emissions and increase mileage so I have a history and prior interest. If I ever get outof the racing business, i'd like to try to develop a diesel electric for the street. Scaled down it might be a good thing. Yes I know we rely on public power that is anything but clean or efficient, but it's probably easier to change generating plants for the better than the millions of cars we have scurrying around. Probably a strange opinion from someone who builds racing cars for a living but there you go. And no, I'm not planning on getting rid of the supercharged Focus!

Ray - love the quarry you started. Will it be operating or abandoned?

Keith - the bridge looks great! Another way to deal with the stone bridge is to carve it out of polystrene foam and use a sharp pencil, pen, knife to mark lines and imperfections in it. Very helpful if you need to make a curved structure. The natural finish of the foam blocks also resembles concrete at least to me in Horribly Oversized gauge.

As far as Spanish is concerned, if the congress continues to do nothing, it will be necessary in order to get along here in the Estada Unidos pretty soon. Sort of like needing French NOTB, eh? Well enough sunlight and cheer for now, better grab my coffee and head out before that skillet reappears.  CUL,J.R.

Evening gang!

Sorry for being tarty as of late... (what's new, right?!?!?!?!) and also sorry this is just a quick stop for tonight, but I had to let everyone know what I saw this afternoon on my way home from work.

The route I take to and from work, takes me over and under CSX's mainelines here in Syracuse. Well, on my way home, on the lone tressle I go under by Crouse-Hinds' Cooper Industries, was a mixed freight. Just west of this tressle, is a set of signals and the train was stopped. Well, at the point... 2 IC&E engines and a blue and yellow paint job. Never seen them before, and if I was at a stopping point, or wasn't limited by time tonight, I would have stopped and snapped some pics to post for all to enjoy.

Anyways, I hope everyone is doing good. Prayers to those in need.

Take care!

*Opens door carefully and slowly...sees some bodies on the floor, a puddle of water around one with an empty bucket nearby...*

Good....evening?

Not sure what I'm dazed and woozy from, getting klonked twice by Flo and her skillet...or the Johnson County Planning and Zoning Committee meeting I just returned from!

SAWYER, was it you asking about the death tax? It's a wonderful little thing where a dead guy's estate gets taxed incredibly. THAT makes it harder for the living to, well, keep the estate (farm, business), or really do much of anything with it. I guess some in the govt. feel it's their last chance to reach into your pocket...Whistling And they want to grab ALL they can...

JR: If you want a Volt...more power to ya! I just find it a bit odd how the guy who said "...under my plan for Cap and Trade, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket"  really wants us driving glorified golf carts and giving up our hydro-carbon powered vehicles. Then they want us to pay through the nose to charge 'em up??? I heard it takes up to 15 hours to recharge one on regular household current, faster on 220 volt (with an extra $2k adapter). The gas engine is...a generator for the electric motor. But, like I said...you want one, go for it! I just don't want to be told I have to have one too...and I know some who would do THAT, in a heartbeat!

With hybrids and "alternative energy vehicles," let the free market decide. If a guy wants a car THAT runs on poop...have at it! Just don't tell me I have to drive one too. For me, none of the electric golf carts on steroids will w**k. It's 30 miles to the Solon office, add another 8-10 for North Liberty Jobs. It's about 50 to Tiffin (Clear Creek Amana high school), and almost 60 to Oxford (school board meetings/softball games). Some would say "move closer to your w**k." Why? The wife and I chose our house for a number of reasons, knowing full-well it's 35 miles to her job. We're 40 miles to Cedar Rapids, 40 to the Peoples' Republik of Iowa City, 40 to Clinton, 40 to the Quads... But, some (like the former cousin) would say ultimately, we should be forced to move to small, efficiency apartment-style housing WHERE WE W**k. Thus, we would never have to drive...ever. Everything would be within walking or bicycling distance.

Doesn't sound much like America to me... or like much of a life.

What's THAT Ma'am? Good thing Flo went home for the night???

Yes Ma'am....

VINCENT: We're in the same boat, I've been gathering up cars and locomotives for...20+ years in anticipation of a layout. The odd thing is, I'm now buying the Front Range and McKean kits I didn't get then. The whole pre-order/limited edition thing has kept a lot of the "new" stuff away from me. Maybe 20 years from now, I'll find them dirt-cheap on THAT auction site...Whistling

WISCONSIN RAILFAN (or something close to THAT): I saw your post about wanting a dummy CNW loco. Anything in particular? I still see some Athearn bluebox GP-50s on TheBay... Of course, it needs a nose bell and winterazation hatch, but it  isn't too tough to do either. Plano makes a nifty brass template for cutting the notch for the bell. It's also not too tough to remove the radiator fan and slap on the boxy winterazation hatch. Toughest part is matching Athearn's paint. Otherwise...how's your paint and decal skills???  Microscale and Herald King have several CNW locomotive sets, and the paint scheme isn't too bad to mask-off. I tend to spray the green first, THAT way, if/when the yellow bleeds under the tape, it's a heckuvalot easier to touch up than having green bleed onto the yellow! Banged Head In general, you're probably about stuck looking at TheBay, probably for something by Athearn. I don't think I've seen any Proto 1000/2000 offered as dummies, nor Kato, Atlas, etc. If you really want some fun, grab an Athearn bluebox GP-7 and chop the nose...

GARRY: Nasty looking head-on for the SOO...where was THAT???

I'm gonna have a seat at the RC... and try to figure out how to write an article out of the meeting I covered tonight.

Evening all, bit of insomnia going on with me right now, not sure what's up.

If ya wanna talk taxes, talk to a trucker, he's the one who has to pay a ton of them just to operate on the highway, never could figure out how the gov't could screw up trucking, but they did.  I usually stay out of the discussion, especially with the hours-of-service rules they are currently redrawing, some so-called "safety groups" feel we should only drive 8 hours a day, we can currently do 11.  Hope they like skyrocketing costs of things, due to costs of trucking going up......

Hey, is that Flo I see by the door, the one with the skillet-

//ka-chuck--BOOM!!//

Flo, never mess with a man when he is in Texas, gotta watch them leather dusters, they like to hide shotguns....

//Pulls out phone, calls ambulance, then explains issue to cops//

Well, back to the truck, see everyone later.....

Chris ... Now I learned it was not a recent accident. Here's another view of it in RailPictures. Itwas in Upper Penensula of Michigan.

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=309261

Quite a photo.

Sawyer ... I found this at the CMR website as I was looking at their building kits. Looks like quite a layout in your town, Aiken, SC.... Are you familiar with it? ....ALso, you are one of the yound people in this forum that give hope for the future.

http://www.custommodelrailroads.com/cmr-train-aiken.html

Wisconsin Railfan ... I know a guy who would like to get rid of a shell for an Atlas CNW Alco switcher. No chassis, however.

....................

Company arrived from MI today. Grandson (Baby Oliver) arived with his Mom and Dad.

...................

Taxes ? ? Thumbs Down ... Let's face it. Government spends too much money needlessly. Now they try to pay for it, but they do poorly at that. Uncle Sam is borrowing 40% of his spending.... Bad news for our grandkids.

  Thank you.. all of you~

Well I had a good idea what I needed to do to make a bridge for a curve.  Take a look!

100_1686.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Now as far as working with a stone image,  well I just couldn't figure out how to make the arch.

100_1672.jpg

If you look at both of the 2 strips of cut plastic, well both were the same, cut both straight.  The curved one I sat down for a show.. for an hour and worked it.  Sort of kneading it, and spreading it apart only on one side.  It was curved enough for me to cut splits along the top edge of the arch.  Thus making the turn over the arch tolerable.  Working with super glue gell wasn't easy either.

Now for something new and totally exciting.

Ta dah~  Floquils

100_1690.jpg picture by Blazzin55

To be honest.. I'm not too excited about the colors.  These colors.. particularly that rust color seems to be lacking.  I feel I could do better with craft paints.  Right now.. between the fllquill 'tie brown'  and 'rail rust' I feel like something is missing.  Oh not the inside part of the rails.. I left that for comparison.  And of course this is N scale.. but it just doesn't do it for me.  And of course this is not the main lines,  I probably would  use a 'Grimmy black'.  Right now, aside from painting the inside rails I feel as if that the rust.. needs a darker color at the bottom of the rail.  Sort of a gradiant of rust..with grime.

What do you guys think?  Am I expecting too much for N scale?  Perhaps I thought this would look more of what others had done.  I just walked away saying .. "Is that it? I could do better with craft paints!"  Although the floquil paints went on rather easy.  I need some honest answers from friends.

  Thanks in advance.

Keith

Good Evening,

I seriously thought that I might just drop coming into the Diner as there is just too much ranting about politics, taxes, etc.  I've been coming here for 3 years now and it just seems to be getting worse.

I don't mind informed comment but too much isn't.

Today was just the final straw.

Well its your loss, we've had talks of African Lion hound pups (ridgebacks),  how to create forest settings to doing CPR on dogs.  Recipe's on 'Mosquito repellants' (Polish Chili Verde) to an placing an I.D. on Irish Wolf hound.  Tips on weathering, painting perfect backdrops (Ray, my ol Art Teacher) to making ampitheathers out of pure nothing,  to actually drawing out and cutting painting sidewalks.  Show and tell days are just pure fun.. (You'd never expect the Spanish Inquisition! .. Todd I still laught at that~)  Chris and Jeff seem to make my mornings with pics of various RR stuff.  We have shared so much, more than just model railroading but truly suffering thy neighbors loss.. even down to a Sinner's Prayer.

But whats important, we're all friends here and can listen to each others needs and questions concerning any subject. To be tolerant of the gambit of conversation and finding common ground on most.  The Diner is gathering place to express ideas without the confines of limited speech.

Maybe you need a 'Foot Tapper'  I grew up with Country Music as a boy.  Yep take me out of the country.. but you can't take the country out of me.  *Walks over to the Jukebox and picks a foot  tapper*

The Diner is open to all, and all are welcomed.

Amen, and well-stated. But, I'm sure I strayed into "VERBOTEN!" territory quite a bit here the past few days. Then again, I didn't say anything here I wouldn't have said had we all been sitting around "The Friendly Cooker" in Wamego, Kansas...my favorite "real world" diner.

KEITH: I see you're battling the same battle I've fought a few times: a "good" color for rail. Floquil's "rust" never looks right to me...for much of anything. I tend to mix it into other colors. "Rail brown" seems kinda...welp, "green" in tint. Their "RR tie brown" is a handy weathering color...makes a good "railroad grime" to my eye. I'm thinking (always dangerous) THAT when I get to the point of laying track, I'll probably mix Rail Brown, RR Tie Brown, and Grimy Black in a highly un-scientific manner.

In other words, I'm looking forward to YOUR experiments, so I can see what w**ks and what don't!!MischiefSmile,Wink, & Grin

Steven, AFAIK athearn's the only one who makes dummies. If you look on that auction site you can find really good engines for less than your probably paying for your interwebz.

Chris, nice chop nose. Looks like you have a split windshield on yours, how'd you do that one. I've been wanting to model some BN chop-noses but haven't figured that part. Looks like I'm a bit further behind the curve, I'm getting mostly MDC and BB kits probably made before I was born. I do have one McKean car, an ATSF centerflow hopper. IMO the athearn one is better, but the atlas ones is the bomb. Say would that plano piece for the nose gong work out for doing the np/slsf nose gyralights?

Agree with you on the hybrid/volt thing. I wouldn't drive one because they usually look like crap, the batteries would be hazardous in a wreck (local drivers are crazy; already had to dodge like 5 people this month), and what happens when they have to be replaced? (taken to a specalty place and probably have to pay for them) not to mention the batteries contain some mineral only found in China. Frankly I'd much rather have a 2011 V6 mustang for mileage. Some test they got 48.5 mpg with a car that get 315 horsepowerMischief

What cha have in MInd?  lol.. You ever go fishing?  Sometimes you get a nibble and sometimes you don't.  But when you do, you've got one!

I briefly went on Ebay to see what is out there.  Personally if you just go fishing, you might find something for under $20.00.  And have and extra engine to boot.  Now I have over 600 wins on ebay.  And thats alot.  I live on the west coast and I believe I've got the jump on most ppl.  Down to the last 4 secs.  If you are not around and you need someone to bid on it.. I'd be happy to bid on it for ya.. and send it.

Here's what I found.. just using a simple search of C&NW.. sorted out by 'shipping and loweest price first.

Good Morning

I had a deluge this morning--about 2" in about half an hour. Not bad considering no rain in the past two weeks. But we do get that humidity right up here boy.

There was a bit of that strictly "VERBOTEN" topic mongering around here wasn't there? I'm surprised that FLO did not lock us up in a closet someplace!WhistlingGood thing we did not have to deal with VINNIE!!!Shock

That head on accident must have been something else---how fast were they going to end up like that anyways?

 Good Morning Folks!

Just some strong coffee for me please.

Thanks to everyone that replied to my request, and the links.  I didn't realize, I should i have also been searching for powered locos also, I figured that a "dummy" would have been a lot cheaper.

Good morning All,

A bit of rain just now and a break in the temp but it'll get back up in the 90's by days end anyway. Sorry to see Charlie is going to opt out, but it's his decision and I can respect that. We have strayed pretty far from home on occasion recently but I would like to note that we've done it all without any nastiness. I may agree or disagree with what you write, but I respect your right to say it.

Keith. I usually spray bomb the entire track in ruddy brown primer and then go from there. I agree the color you used is a bit light for rusty rail, but with a little experimentation you can get a good mix and look. Here the ties and rail usually end up looking similar as the rust bleeds off the rail onto the creosoted wood staining it. Add some grime down the middle from engine droppings and you have a start. Mains and secondary lines also have some differences because of differing maintainence and traffic. Entire tomes have been written on this, but the best way I've found is to observe the real thing and take some pics (i usually find a bridge or high vantage point) to refer to at your leisure. Going to an area at or near where you wish to model is a plus as the rail seems to vary greatly depending on local weather and conditions, type of ballast, etc. As I said, tomes have been written.....

Enough about cars and polytics - how about them Mets......Dunce  J.R.

Good morning.  Another hot day today.

Thanks for the comments on the car.   I have to go by the LHS today, and see if I can find a few new projects.  Also today I am going to a community college and see about getting a degree.  Maybe in graphic arts or something.  I'm 30 years old, and haven't done anything with my life yet.  Its time to make a change.  My wife has a interview this morning on a teaching job.  It is VERY hard to become a teacher in PA.  She's going back to school for another masters degree in a few weeks.  She hopes that helps her chances.   If we are still where we are now, we plan on moving in about 5 years or so.

Hope everybody has a good morning.

Good Morning. Just coffee please. Knees are burning already so it could be a long day.

Wow. I tried to walk through the woods today, I loooove getting back to nature and enjoying it's wonders. However, there seemed to be some annoying things there. So, I contacted the locals and am seeing about having the spiders, snakes, and bugs removed. Also there should be fencing put up so any bears don't get in, nor the coyote or two that strolls through there among some other animals that could be deemed pests by me. The grass needs cut and the leaves need raked up. There is a lot of deadfall around too. It should also have a paved pathway to walk on and some benches to sit down on so you don't have to get your shoes dirty. Also I think a picnic spot with restrooms and running water should be added throughout the woods with plenty of trash cans placed along the way.

Sound familiar?

I have no problem with, and think it's great, people saving energy or recycling or any of the many things people do to "save the planet" I do many things myself. I just don't believe that me buying CFL's will save the planet nor do I think they are the "responsible" thing to do. I buy them because they last longer and use less energy than incandescent. Therefore helping to save money on my bill. And therefore more money for TRAINS!!!! I recycle as much as possible not to save the planet, but to cut back on the landfill space to keep them open longer without having to look for a new place possibly next to ME!!

Well, I see Flo stopped the conversation before it got too political. Kinda heading dangerously close there. Looks like most of us see things pert near the same way. I do believe if we lived in the same neighborhood we would all get along famously. Through a series of tunnels, can you imagine the railroad we would have going from basement to basement to basement?Mischief

The Statement I agree with THE MOST, and by FAR is that statement made by J.R. and I quote (ahem) "I may agree or disagree with what you write, but I respect your right to say it."  Bow THAT is what makes the diner a place to wish the whole world was like. If you disagree with the way someone feels, you either, politely offer your opinion, have your discussion, maybe change your mind or just agree to disagree or simply stay out of the conversation if it's not to your liking. You know, if you allow me my big gas guzzling pickup truck parked in my drive next to your hybrid or don't complain because your children gets dog poopies on their shoes when they cut through MY backyard, I probably won't burn leaves in my backyard when the wind is blowing your direction and/or your windows are open or even while you're home for you to smell if it bothers you and I'll probably not raise a stink about the path you want paved in the woods. It's called getting along. A little give and take. Seems like lately too many people want it all their way and it just seems to turn into a head butting contest. The world is not built for anyone person or group. It's for us all to share. And get along we must or else! What's that Flo? Or else what? Oh.., I don't know. My Mom always used to say that when ever she wanted us to do or to stop doing something.

I'm thinking of adding a touch of cinders I received in my garage sale find of the year to my track ballast to add just a hint of grungy age to it. Hmmmmmm.

Have a Great Day!!!

     "Hot Coffee*

Robby,  I love ~ your creations, its got to be very gratifying.

Now as for me.. I woke up in pain.  Yes my Ol' sacroiliac joints are flaring up.  Not to mention the house was a cool 56 degrees.  I told Jeanne I've got to turn on the heater.. I'm too darn stiff.  My old cat 'Crash' is liking it as the warm air flows in,  its nice,  maybe I can un-wind.  I said to Jeanne,  "I'm gonna go get me a Jump Suit to stay warmer."

"Great~ How bout a 'Crash Helmut too !" was her reply.

Chris,  How'd ya know I'd be exerimenting today with colors?  Remember way back when, I said it seemed the color gray would be appropriate for weathering the ties... well someone said it also.  Well gray isn't that great,  but it does serve as a base coat.  I had tried all the other colors for coloring the ties.  You really couldnt' see any difference with brown on a black tie,  other than taking the gloss off the blackness of the ties.  Now when I did place the gray on the ties,  all of a sudden you could see the lines and cracks of the ties.  Now gray wasn't the answer either, but as I said, a base.  From there I tried to take away the gray with some tie brown and that seemed to help.  Now along with GMT's tip, I imagine I'll add some grime black to the center of the ties to add some realism and depth to the over-all colors.  Just like you said too Chris.. its mixture of colors.  I thank both of you.

I'd like to think by the weekend I'll be laying track and on my way for more 'brain farts'

Keith

Went to the scrap yard this morning and checked out a part of it where my nephew says there's a van like mine. I looked around. Took nearly 2 hours to look through an acre and a half. That was enough for me. I've been waiting for him to check it out for the past couple of months but he hasn't gotten off his butt yet to do it and frankly I'm tired of it. If you say you're going to do something within a specified period of time then you do it, not sit there and give excuses about why it hasn't been done. I respect people who do what they say they'll do but I don't have any respect for those who are able bodied, won't work and gripe about how everybody else owes them a living. I worked for over 30 years for the money I get now. He can do the same.

Well I know I'm a bit early for lunch but hows about a BLT fries and a tall glass of sweet tea.

Happy to report not bear sightings this morning.....lol more then likely young males  even though black bears are nothing to sneeze at thankfully these aren't monsters like Grizzly's can grow up to be. Usually if the smell food they come snooping around but with all the dogs we have I'm not all that concerned. How ever! WAR has been declared on the squirrel population around here. My wife is into this square foot gardening stuff where you (I) build a 4' square box out of 2x6 lumber and mix up some special dirt again (me) mixing the dirt and you separate you crops by 12" square sections hence the name square foot gardening Well being as we got horrible soil around here it's the only way you can have a nice garden. here at home. Everything has been doing real well, lots of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers etc. well she "had" 16 corn plants 12 of which had an ear of corn each. Well it seems the squirrels really appreciated my hard work and her ideas, as yesterday they went in a wreaked havoc on her corn crop and the little suckers had the nerve to sit on the railing of the back deck and look through the window while munching on their baby corn. If she wasn't so upset by it almost to the point of tears I would have busted out laughing. She came storming in asking me which  shotgun was good for shooting squirrels I ain't seen her that mad in a long long time. So now on top of trying to trap Mr. Gopher aka the groundhog from hell rats from my neighbors junk pile and the occasional curious black bear from thinking my garbage cans are the old country buffet, I have to exterminate a few hundred squirrels that live in or near our property and who says I have nothing to do?

Just my 2 cents worth, I spent the rest on trains. If you choked a Smurf what color would he turn?

Good Morning, Zoe - a cinnamon roll and a Santa Fe mug of coffee please. Thanks. Uh, no, thanks - I'll pass on a skillet sandwich today, that's okay...

Blazzin
But Jim.. you see the forest pics?  No one talked about that, not even you~!  lol

Actually, Keith I saw them, and had already saved the forest pics (I've already used one of those in the past for a desktop pic). Just haven't got back to you all yet.  On your rails there, I have heard that RR Tie Brown is a good color for the 'rust'. Might be worth a try (or a craft color close to that).

W**k yesterday was, well.. Banged HeadBanged Head  Got done a bit after 6 p.m. with no lunch (unless you count going through a drive-thru and getting a sandwich in a bag as 'lunch'...), so that tells you something. (Moving right along...) Oh yeah, and in the process of staying late yesterday, asI was checking over my paperw**k this morning, I found that I had apparently sent the originals out with the deputies. Banged Head Ouch! Called the hospital and they didn't get the originals, so they may be coming back from the deputies later (I hope).

Now, back to you, Keith - I appreciated your info and pointers on the forest (even though I will only have one small area of my layout where there will be many (near the sawmill in the woods, as it were). Like that bridge, also (maybe do some mortar to highlight it more). Thumbs Up

Todd, Chris and others who've been following the saga of "I got the Paint-Strippin' Blues, oh-woh-woh..."Whistling - After another night in 'the dip', it's mostly only the base and some of the corner side posts where I've got the paint off. I'm about ready to see about some brake fluid. Any pointers on that (like how long to leave stuff in there but not dissolve the plastic)? I may see about applying cement (glue) to the joints and try to loosen up some of the parts so the stripping will go better on this go-round. Any and all hints, suggestions and/or warnings **will** be appreciated.

DerJohn - excellent job on that grain mill there! BowBow You da man! You weren't an engineer some time in your former (w**king) life, were you? (Ya, I know you weren't...but you couldn't prove it by all your outstanding projects you've done)

Ray, thank you for the info on your quarry w**k - I have a set of those colors, so your tips will prove handy for me. Hey, how much actual space does that quarry take? Ya got me wondering if I could squeeze one in (...somewhere...) on my future-expanded-and-continuing-to-grow-layout-in-my-mind...Whistling

Chris, I'd probably have had 'sweaty' eyes at that parade, too. Thumbs Up Oh, I hadn't noticed the gusset plates mis-matching any - been busy trying to get the $%#$&* paint to come off with the 91 percent. Maybe they water ours down for local use? Dunno... Hey, nice CNW planter there! Smile,Wink, & Grin

Sawyer - one word: Amen. (Saw the travelling Wall when it was here, also). Will let the poor, wornout soapbox get a rest. Wink

At ten o-clock this morning, we were already at 100 F on the heat index.Cool I think they're talking about 110-115 F for the afternoon's index...Shock Yep, August in the Midwest - all the heat and humidity that you can handle (and then some)...

Robby, I like what you've been doing with THAT Rock boxcar there. Thumbs Up Yeah!! Got another car ready when you get that one listed? I would expect that something in the graphic arts/commercial art/etc. fields would be a good match - you have a good eye for details and colors. Thumbs Up

Jeff, I don't see anything particularly missing on your KCS diesel shot. Great grab shot! Thumbs Up Now if Robby wants to start on weathering locos, he has a starting point from your pic!

Sawyer, I'd rather have my 'fun' subjects after lunch (when I don't have to concentrate or w**k as hard with a full belly). Wink

Uh, TSF - that's supposed to be "Freshperson"...Whistling

Garry, on that Soo Line crash - Ouch! Black Eye About hurts just to look at that. Glad the crews jumped in time.

Yeah, Vincent, I think we're in about the same boat on the layout stuff, and for much the same reasons (about-to-be-or-already-discontinued items, etc.).

CN Charlie, I for one, hope you keep coming by - it may just be that it's cooler up here in Moosonee, so we have more free energy than back home in the heat that saps yer energy. Whatcha been up to lately, by the way (MRR'ing, that is)?

Allegheny, hope you have better luck with your squirrels than I've heard some have had. They can be quite pesky at times.

I see our long link posts have got the margins screwy. Ah, well.

Missed MRR club last night, due to late w**k hours. Awaiting some MRR orders to arrive, and may see about 'adjusting' the top of that flat car. Oh, here are some pics of that Wabash gondola:

and THAT flatcar deck I need to fix up:

And I put some more loads in some of my gondolas, too (already had them):

Zoe, could I get a BLT and a rootbeer float, please? Didn't realize I've been sitting here so long, catching up. Thanks!

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Jim......Thanks for the comment.  I just got back from the community college, and its to late to apply this semester.  I will talk to a consular next month and see what direction to go.   Also I went and got a new project to do.  I did this car awhile back, but I will post it once its done (kinda keep it for a surprise).   I like to have a couple of cars on at a time.  Right now I have three, but one ends tonight.   The new car will take about a day or two to do.

Garry, (pg. 20) those train folks has a wee bit of a problem eh? (pg. 21) That alyout is the one going up in the rebuilt depot; it's actually installed but the depot won't be open until Sept. You can count on me for pics of it, believe me. looks like they added the cut for the mainline (I'll see if I can get pics of that later on). They actually built the depot on the same curve it used to stand on. Now all that rolls past is a NS Geep and hoppers.

TSF, I'll probably be grinding out a few AP classes. My senior year is gonna be five AP classes. But in theory I'll basically have my freshman year of college done before I even get there and have to pay for it.

Chris, I think they would prefer to be sticking a vacuum hose in your pocket with that death tax. Nice CNW unit.

As for electric vehicles, I'd get one if it costs less to charge than it would to fill a regular car with gas. But someday I'm still gonna get that 1960's Mopar that eats electric vehicles, smart cars, and hybirds for breakfast and gives tree huggers nightmares at night and drive it on the street Big Smile

Keith, I saw the weathered bridge earlier, forget what page, it looks good.

Jim, yes sir that soap box has gotten a workout. and yeah, it's kidna nice. chemistry ain't gonna be fun. What will really suck is if I have to carry aroudn my spanish, english, and math textbooks; near as I can tell based on last year my locker will be at one end of the school where my 4th period class is and my 3 earlier ones will be in a line from the other end of campus heading back up to 4th. then 5th and 6th are at the same end of campus as the earlier classes, and 7th is decently close.

Robby, glad to hear you've decided to get a degree, best of luck!

Today I hope to finish my summer reading. Thursday I'll probably tackle my summer spanish work.
