Good morning. It's 80 and partly cloudy. The high will be 99 with a 111 heat index. There's a 50% chance of rain this afternoon.

Well since I can't walk today I busy myself with turning one of my GP7's into a cabless B unit. That shouldn't be difficult. I should be able to get some handrail pieces from a scrap unit. No word on the car today. It still sits dead as a rock in my parent's driveway and I don't really care if it never runs again. It would cost around $500 just to fix the fuel pump problem and I'm not willing to put that into it. It's 16 years old and has over 330,000 miles on it. I feel it's day is over. I'll salvage some parts from it before it goes to the scrap heap however. The pusher fan on the front of the radiator will be one of them. I'll also pull several relays. The 2-way radio, airhorn and light bar will also be coming off. The backup lights will also be coming out. They're 55 watt halogens and aren't cheap. I can put them in the van as backup lights and really light up someones world when I back up.

Hey Jeff, nice pictures.

Random thought, we have smoke in steam engine models, when are we going to have black smoke in diesel models?

Chris, I try to look to the positive side while at the same time expecting the worst. I wouldn't be expecting an F5 tornado, but thunderstorms are a pain in the rear, but lighting is just amazing.

AWESOME CNW/Conrail lineup shot, now if I saw that consist roll by I think there'd literally be drops of drool on the floor by my feet lol

John, yeah, I think I was being a bit overly-crazed with the California solution lol.

Garry, sweet Colorado shot! I'm looking forward to seeing it as well.

Zandoz, ditto to what Tom said that seems like a great spot for a park and boat launch ramp.

Well, today I don't have much planned, my summer reading is done and I'm doing my spanish stuff tomorrow. I think today will be redrawing my layout in RTS. I had it FINISHED yesterday and then the program had a spaz attack and completely screwed up, I have no idea what button I pressed but i think it was my fault. Anyways I'm going to expand the plan a bit to see if I can get some more room for the grades.

 Y'all have a good one!

 Just a quick stop.

Here's the *Alberta* I've been working on.  Its hard to get pictures on this car.  I had the same trouble last time I did this car.  I guess its something about the blue.  I added several shots, and you can see the difference.

Hello folks!   I'll have a diet Dr pepper, please.

tcwright973

Zandoz,

That sounds like a perfect spot for a small community park. Picnic benches, possibly a shelter, some swings and slides, and maybe even a small ramp for launching boats. It would also require a small parking area. I can think of a couple of places around here that fit your description.

Tom

Tom:  You were reading my mind.  I'd originally thought of a park for the spot, but then a memory came to me.  When I was like 7 years old, while visiting my grandmother in the small town she lived in, we went to the local park...the B&O line through the town passed near by.  Halfway down the park slide, I tried to turn around to watch a passing passenger train...I ended up toppling over the side, resulting in a broken arm.  But I got to see that cool passenger train!   The park name...Water Works Park.   It was built surrounding the local water tower and pumping station.  I'd like to do the combination water works and park, but if that does not pan out, I may well go with just a park.

Well, I'm off to watch the Reds & Cardinals play basebrawl.   Have a good one, all!

Reality...an interesting concept with no successful applications, that should always be accompanied by a "Do not try this at home" warning.

Hundreds of years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...But the world may be different because I did something so bafflingly crazy that my ruins become a tourist attraction.

"Oooh...ahhhh...that's how this all starts...but then there's running...and screaming..."

Coffee refill, please.

Did a hay run and worked on raking the new pasture with the tractor. To hot to do anything outside now. Would work on the wife's layout, but need to clean Tinytoons shoes so we can glue them back on this evening. Need to spend a little time in the train room soon before I go nuts...that is more nuts than I am normally.

Hope y'all are having a good day.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

94 here at the moment, feels like 100. Expecting a high of 100 with an index of 112.

My nephew will be heading out to 'Mud Fest' this weekend in Opelousas. He was getting his two mud buggies ready this morning. He says he'll be going by the scrap yard today to find the parts I need for the van. We'll see.

 Afternoon folks!

Zoe I need a RBF..........  I'll go sit out of way in the back.

Der John, I have had the same thing happen when I have tried to use anything copied from Mic$oft Worst and pasted in the forum here.  BTW, I am using a Mac and Firefox.  Have no problems anywhere else, just here.  Hey!  Maybe the "New and Improved" forum coming up soon will fix......  Never mind, I doubt it. Whistling  anyway, I just compose my posts in the message box here in the forum and if I have had any troubles, I just copy it to my clipboard before I post it.  If it gets lost in cyberspace, I can just paste it into another message box and try again.

Rob, I take it you found the shoe Tinytoons threw???  What kind of glue does the Farrier use?  I always thought they nailed them on.

I'm a bit down in the dumps right now.  I got home from shopping to find an email from my Sister in Law about my BIL Bernie.  He was admitted to the hospital this morning.  Hadn't had any solid food for several days and wasn't drinking much fluids.  He had an endoscopy exam to see why he was choking and had the dry heaves.....  They couldn't find anything.  He has a type of bone cancer and has been losing kidney function for some time now.  I guess his kidneys are basically no longer functioning and he is not strong enough right at the moment for dialysis.  He is not a candidate for a transplant due to his other problems.  If he gets enough strength back, he will be moved to a hospital that can do the dialysis,  otherwise, the end may be near for him.  He is down to 90 lbs. and "looks like a bag of bones" according to my SIL.  So, please keep him and the family in your prayers.

Later!

Evening guys

WEll, the dead mouse smell is lessening, but still sickening to me.

Cardiologist says my ekg does have an anomoly in it, but it is a questionable one as to whether to run a  battery of tests or not. He decided for now, Not. And the enlargement part issue the CT scan says is still just inside the upper parameter for size. He said I should live "at least till supper, after that all bets are off".   Main thing is my BP was 184 over 104 so he doubled my High BP med dosage. ANd of course the old "loose 30 lbs." routine. I've tried. He said to cut down on volume. Because of the corrective surgery done on my stomach and esophagus I only have half a stomach anyway so I eat children's portions anyway, and can't eat to close together or I vomit, as my stomach can't hold it all. I have managed to loose 6 lbs, {or his scale is way off}, one or the other! I see him again in Jan and he may run tests then.

Monday I had a fun trip to the hospital with intense chest pain. Turns out that I have a bad case of gastritis, probably from all the ralphing I did last week over the mouse and not being able to eat properly. Morphine helped to clear that up a good bit...of course I was like a wet rag for the rest of the day and into Tuesday. Today wasn't so bad, and I ate well for lunch we will see what supper time brings if my appetite holds....

Still waiting for the referral to the Pain Relief Cetner to go through, why is eveything medical "hurry up and wait....and wait....and wait"???

Well, enough about me for now...how are you?

have a great evening guys!

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooood afternoon 'eh. Plate of cheeseburgers and a large Cherry RC Cola please 'n thank-you whilst I continue to stew, brood, cogitate, and contemplate HOW to write-up an article on the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting I attended Monday evening. On the surface, it's cut and dried. Guy wants a big "event venue." Neighbors don't want it. But... there's a history behind the opponents. They just, very simply put, want to be left alone. THAT used to be allowed in.... Sorry. The Iowa City DePressed Citizen (a daily) already ran their piece. Mine has to be "better" than theirs. Why? 'Cause by having more time to hammer it out, it "should" be more comprehensive, and better written.

RAY: Best wishes for the guy, sounds a bit like one of our firefighters...a permanent "guest" of the Mayo Clinic.Sad

GALAXY: I'm twisted enough to enjoy your doctor's "sense of humor." My guess is, his timing wasn't the greatest.  Sounds like you've been through the wringer...hang in there, we're pullin' for ya!

SAWYER: Yeah...my wife keeps trying to get me to be a bit more...optimistic...in how I view things. She's been trying for 7 years, hasn't "taken" yet!Mischief I think life in EMS and fire-rescue is what did it to me. Your attitude is probably far, far, far healthier!  Nice trackplan by the way, I'maguessin' the red tracks are/would be for staging??? Should have some good scenic potential.

ROBBY P: NICE! Again, if you want insight into the world of graphic design...let me know, the Wife is ready and willing to answer any questions you might have.

ROB: Rerun says you need to tip better...WhistlingSmile,Wink, & Grin

JEFF: Nice job on the B-unit conversion!Thumbs UpThumbs Up Looks every bit as good to me as the Smokey Valley kits...and probably a heckofalot cheaper too. You gonna match the paint? Or have your shop crew apply their own colors? Good luck with the nephew, I take it you don't hold your breath waiting on him...

In the news today, a guy was killed near Ryan (between Manchester and Central City) when his pickup was struck by two CN locomotives at a private crossing. The State Patrol noted crossbucks, lights, gates, etc. are NOT required at private crossings; and the train is NOT required to sound it's horn and bell for private crossings. My guess is the guy (a long-time resident of the area) was "surprised" when the train ran at a different time than usual. The line is ex-IC, ICG, CCP, IC and normally sees one train/day.

I guess he forgot THAT "anytime is train time."Disapprove

Over in Stanwood (5-6 miles west of Clarence), some bored kids are playing with the trains. About an hour ago, Cedar County's "finest" were called for kids "playing chicken" with the trains. Not sure if the County Mountie found 'em or not...sounded like he had. But...just heard a train crew say kids ran right in front of 'em. Banged Head How bored or stupid do you have to be to run across double tracks directly in front of a moving train??? I hope if/when they get caught, the Deputy hits 'em with the tazer...might zap some smarts into 'em.

Welp, nightly rain of an inch or so, coupled with high humidity is quickly turning the yard into a meadow again...probably be a jungle by this weekend. Where is KEITH's "cold" weather????

I'll find a back booth to settle in and see about organizing this article for THAT. Nothing like a little extra pressure. Did I mention she's buddy-buddy with the guy? If I make him look the azzzzzzzzzclown he is...could be bad for me! Even a completely neutral, fair, balanced article might show him in a bad light. We'll see how this plays out.

Worst case...ROBBY P, save me a seat on the school bus next semester...

Here's another pic for everybody's enjoyment/amusement/and-or irritation...Mischief

I shot this during my Photo 1 class, have always kinda liked it.

Flow, I will take a order of Baby Backs and a Dew please.

Packers 1  Will this layout be smaller than the one you have now? I all so see you are in to MOPAR, older ones like me or the newer stuff? Some of my MOPAR buddies are try to get me back into the cars. In the last week I have drove a 70 340 Challenger Convertible I helped with, a 71 440 Super Bee and a 1969 Daytona. Kind of getting the MOPAR fire going in me again, but not just yet.

Allen (MOPAR friend) has been trying to get me to fire up Miss Lumpy, nick name for my 68 Road Runner because of the 426 .628 lift cam. Fuel pumps took a dump 5 years ago and shes been sitting. Just to darn hot to drop the fuel tank to get the bad gas out.

Jeffery  Yes I know the screens will keep the bugs out! If you like, I will send you my phone number and you can try to explain it to her! I have gave up!

JR      When you said Polyurethane, did you mean the hardener? If you meant the hardener, yes I know how to mix the stuff.

He located a column today. He's going back tomorrow to see about getting the steering box too. Sure as we don't get both pieces old man Murphy will jump on us for not getting both parts. Now if I held my breath waiting for my nephew to do something I would have looked like this a long time ago!

Jeff, sounds like your nephew is a bit of a dead beat. I have a cousin that is the same way

/br Chris, you gotta love stupid people. Why anyone would want to run infront of a train is beyond me. Look at all the PSA's and what not. And to quote Larry the Cable Guy, "What do you think's gonna happen? The train is going to jump out behind the bushes? Or the train is going to swerve and mis you at the last second? If I ever get attacked by a train, heres what I'm going to do. (Takes 3 steps to the right)" Gotta really be wondering.

Rerun, get out from under the table and do your job the right way. And you wonder why you don't get bigger tips?  I'll have one last coffee for the day, please.

***Ray, see Tinytoons two page story here: http://paintedhorses.homestead.com/tinytoons.html Keep in mind this site hasn't been updated in ages. She is now going on 6 years old, but still needs shoes. I make them out of sheet metal and glue them on with Equi-Thane "SuperFast" adhesive. Can't get the stuff off your hands afterwards. Very good stuff!

Heading back out on the tractor to do some more work on the future pasture.

*Door swings open gently, softly singing a tune doing a hillbilly shuffle*

"I came in here looking for something~ I couldn't find anywhere else~ Hey I'm not trying to be nobody, I just want a chance to be myself~"

*Spins around and sits at the counter*

"Yo coffee when you get a chance"

Chris, its starting to warm up.  And as I told Jeanne,  I'd rather be hot and sweaty than cold and stiff.  Waking up in the morning to 56 degrees in the house was a bit much.  I told Jeanne, that our house is warming in winter than now in summer.  Where I live it should be around a solid 84-87 degress,  we are averaging 10 degrees lower than normal.  Average, that means its been colder than that.  We've had two months of June gloom that would seem has ended.  Like I said,  I rather be hot and sweaty than cold and stiff.

Now getting back to those C&NW pics of yours, not only do I like em,  Jeanne loves to look at em.  I would guess Jeanne has about 15 plus C&NW liners she wants to pull with two E6 A's.  lol.. Hey if the wife wants some trains.. fine by me.

Now as far as my layout goes,  lol.. I've been avoiding most, and only doing more cork.  I've got to think about this.. but I do have a plan.  I really do~  I really don't want to weather until I see electrical  current going throught the track and see how it all comes about.  I just got to see it.. thats all!  Besides I think I'd rather wait to see where I will solder in a feeder of wire to the tracks.  Yeah yeah,  I'm still fooling around with that notion of Electro frogs.. and power routing.  I'll getting there~

I've been having tons of problems with the camera... the only thing that has worked to some degree..is that I reformated the camera.  Hopefully I can take some more pics.  So long as I do make advancement on the layout every day,  I feel I'm making progress.  I just put in a movie.. and start gluing cork.

Galaxy.. you never mentioned about the idea of sprinkling Armour Baking soda  on that area of the dead mouse.  I know ppl put a box of that stuff inside the fridge to absorb oder.

Hey guys.

Did some work on that SLSF SD40-2 dummy (blue box) I have. Filled in the gap between the db blister and the radiator, cleaned up some of the molding flash, and removed all the glazing. When tring to remove the glazzing the headlight casing split. All that plus the thick paint pretty much sealed the fate of it getting repainted. If I can'tget a cab from athearn, I'll go with a cannon one. So more stuff in additon to the parts list for this unit

Chris, More people being stupid around trains. As cruel as it may sound saying this, I really do think that natural selection (darwin stuff) may be working there.

Robby, Nice work on the hopper.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Evening... large glass of lemonade please and a mild OD of ibuproffen (tension headache)... thankya.

More people being stupid around trains. As cruel as it may sound saying this, I really do think that natural selection (darwin stuff) may be working there.

It could very well be natural selection working...their brains sure aren't! Angry

The twits in Stanwood either a) got bored with dodging trains, or b) were escorted home by a Deputy. Of course, if the officer spoke with 'em, they probably burst out laughing and high-fiveing once "The Man" left. They'll probably be in high regard amongst their peers. Disapprove

I'm just glad this nonsense occurred over in Stanwood's district. I really don't feel like hosing dead kid parts off the front of a locomotive and/or helping the ambulance crew walk the ROW looking for the pieces to be picked up and put into red (biohazard) bags. And yes, it has been done around here before.

Sorry, I don't suffer fools very well...and I resent what they put other people through when their act of stupidity turns into "an incident."

ROB: I've spoken with Rerun about his...table service. Laugh The next time we get stuck with TOP, he'll just be full of Zip-a-Dee Doo-Dah...

KEITH: Cheer up man! You're always just so darn gloomy...Smile,Wink, & Grin And, I will STILL trade you weather any day, anytime. "Real summer" continues with a high tomorrow in the 90s and continued high humidity. The Canadians must be having pity for us, seems they are sending a massive cold front through this weekend...should knock the temps back to just below 80 on Sunday. Between your knee and my re-arranged sinus, we've got the built-in weather indicators covered.

Well, I suppose...back to w**k. I know what I want to say in the article...it's just how to arrange it THAT is snagging me up now. Do I go with this set of quotes first? Maybe THAT quote instead. I could just go with a glorified transcript...but THAT would be boring. By re-arranging things, I can keep it accurate, but also make it so THAT a reader would actually want to read it all. Then, couple all of THAT cogitation, contemplation, and strategization with an intense desire to NOT have to listen to the 2-hour tape...and the back of my head throbs. But, to get all of the quotes I want to use 100% accurate...I'm gonna have to. Oh well, my favorite talk-show host is done in eight minutes... guess instead of "reeling in the years" to iTunes tonight...I'll be listening to a bureucrat, consultant, lawyer, shyster, and a bunch of peeved land owners.

Anybody wanna be a newspaperman???

Chris, I basically acknowledge the worst but realize that it probably won't be as bad as the worst. and yessir, those red tracks will eventually go to staging yards. The idea is for a focus on trains running ona  mainline, but there is an industry for some switching.

Ken, bigger at 6x7, but will take up a corner of my room and be set a height where I can fit both my workbench and study desk underneath it, so it'll fit into my room better. As to the Mopars, I'm more any muscle car right now, but I like the not as widely known as the classic Ford-Chevy showdown, and they had some big ole brutes. I also like the new Challengers and Chargers, but mainly I prefer the muscle cars. and just b/c I like Mopars doesn't mean I don't like Chevies or Fords, Chevelles are absolutely beasts. :D

well, either tomorrow or friday I'm going to do my spanish summer assignment. Also I'm going to attempt to find a good spot on my trackplan to fit in a passing siding.

Also I'm going to attempt to find a good spot on my trackplan to fit in a passing siding.

If'n it was me, I'd drop a curved turnout at the furniture factory corner, and run the passing siding along the top to the other curve for a good long siding. So says the guy who's own "passing siding" will consist of at best an engine run-around...Whistling

And SAWYER, here's an idea for one of your bridges: ex-Rock Island mainline crossing over the CNW at the Cedar River Bridge.

Of course, you'd probably need ten times the greenery... Whatcha got in mind for the two river bridges??? I think this layout has a lot of scenic potential.

Back at it goeth I...

Chris

 Evenin' folks!

Just a cup of decaf for me Flo.

Did about 1/3 of the lawn this evening.  Ran out of battery and daylight at the same time...... Had to run a few errands this afternoon, and one of them (dropping some veggies off at my son's house for them) took me downtown to the railroad crossing.  I crossed the track where there is plenty of room for about one large or 2 small cars and stopped for the red light.  Car behind me pulled up clear of the track and stopped.  The idiot behind him pulled up right on the tracks, right where you can see the sign THAT says, "NEW YORK STATE LAW, NO STOPPING ON THE RR TRACKS!".  Not to be outdone the next lane over did the same exact thing.  BTW the vehicle parked right on the tracks was one of our local ambulances!  We have quite a few not too bright ones working the job....... Whistling  I have been debating contacting the ambulance service to report it.

The Finger Lakes Railway actually slows way down when using the crossing and has the Conductor get off the loco and flag down traffic.  Even then there is occasionally some bright person who drives around in front of the train while it is crossing.......

Rob, interesting about Tinytoons.  What a cute little girl!   How many hands tall is she?

The really sad thing about my BIL being in the hospital right now is the two things he was really looking forward to this Summer is the Steam Pageant near Canandaigua which is this week, and Diesel Days out at the museum a week from now.  Doesn't look like he will make either one now....

Hope you all have a good evening!

Howdy ...

Ray .... Sorry to learn about your BIL's health problem. Prayers for him.

Galaxy ... Watch out! that BP is too high. Glad you are seeing doctors.

Jeff .... Yikes! ... A GP9 has been decapitated!

Well, the Seadoo is running fine, but the afternoon's are too hot to use it. I'd like some cooler weather now. That must be why the diner is in upper Ontario.

This former EMT/Paramedic would call 'em in a heartbeat about it... Sounds like somebody needs a little refresher class in driving. My old boss in Creston would most assuredly deliver a butt chewing for parking on the tracks, with good reason!

G'night everybody,

Greetings from Monterey,

Not so bad - cool cars everywhere, auctions, car shows, automobilia, a race but.... hey its cold! 90's at home and here the high was 63F. Actually had to wear a jacket.

Out to the track tomorrow to see friends and then whatever. Haven't found a train store yet and here we are blocks from John Allens ' house. (guess he must have done mailorder?)

Ray - our prayers for your BIL.

Zanoz - The typical pump house would be brick, large double doors to get the pumps in and out of, none or a few small windows up high and a man door. Pretty rudimentary stuff and I'll leave it to our other more knowledgeable readers to chime in on possible pre-builts. I have a Walthers prefab water tower and think it's great.

Robby - I see what you mean. I think the main problem is around the fade on the blue. Seems too vivid on the photos.

Still tring to adapt to the time zone (9 here but I'm three hours more tired than that).

                           Catch y'all later, J.R.
