Funny thing.. working in a hospital environment for almost 3 decades.. you've seen alot.. and sometimes twice over. I'll never forget.. I was the 'dedicated ER x-ray Tech' .. and they give you a room.. and a 'runner' .. and you do emergency work.. all day long.. one after another. And this runner.. is .. well my aid.. He assists me in moving the patient onto the table.. and he gets the patients.. developes the film.. puts the paperwork together.. and I just take x rays... Cush job.. really~
Well I'm telling my aid.. as I x ray this blind person.. and I'm talking to them both.. telling the aid.. 'How I met this blind person.. she could describe you .. exactly'.. and my friend/aid.. he kind of laughs.. and I say to the patient.. "For all I know.. you're the same gal~! " And she laughs.. and my friend laughs.. well sure enough.. 'Ol Keith' yarnin a good one.. but it turns out.. the patient is the blind gal that could SEE~! So my friend laughs.. and chuckling.. and I say.. "Go ahead.. describe my friend Paul here " .. lol.. well Paul is Irish.. May Hay RED hair.. and Kinky hair.. well sure enough.. this blind gal describes Paul.. down to the hair.. omg.. "Well there ya go Paul".. no one is gonna believe you either~" lol.
So in my time.. I have seen alot.. and concerning your mom Ulrich..
Onetime.. I was the 'Young Married Guy'.. with two boys in diapers.. a young couple always needs the extra money. And I worked a special shift.. that required I do all the mornig portable Chest X rays. And it was a trauma hospital.. the kind of paitents that are really messed up.. and need to be in a hospital, in traction, .. body casts.. feeding tubes.. and on a vent. The works.
Well there was this one patient.. a young man.. only 19 years old.. ah gheez .. he was in a coma.. on a vent.. he was there for months. I had felt bad the day he came in.. from a very bad freewary accident. So every morning I did his portable chest x ray. I still remember his name to this day.. Ray was his first name. And if you guys can't tell by now.. I'm a very upbeat person.. and I always like to talk.. to anyone.. even if you're in a coma.
So every morning.. I'd go to x ray this guy.. I'd open up the drapes.. talk to him.. tell him the weather.. "Its pouring rain out there.. be glad you're in here.. " . tell him the results of the baseball game.. anything. I did this for months.. and then about a year later.. I was doing out patient work.. and a young man comes in for an OP Chest x ray. I see his name.. ask him if it was him.. about a year ago.. and he says yes.
I am like.. "RAy.. its you.. you ... you were here a year ago.. in a coma... that Ray? " He said yes.. and of course.. I've got to ask him.. now.. because.. back then.. you rarely see the patient go home.. and usually off to some other personal / private care.
"So Ray.. tell me.. I talked to you every chance I got.. I told you the weather.. I told you my name.. I told you the date.. and what was going on with our president~ Did you hear me talking to you? " ... lol. I mean.. my face is proud as punch.. with a smile.. and he looks at me.. and says..
"Nope"..
"Ah gheez.. not even one time?.. cuz I would have sworn you heard me at least twice" "I know.. I felt like you answered me"
"I didn't remember anything"
" oh ok~" "Well nice to see ya Ray "
What I didn't know.. was .. his mother was sitting in the waiting area listening to our conversation.
She jumped up.. and said.. " I knew it.. someone was talking to him.. I just knew it "
Well Ulrich.. people in coma's do hear ya.. I've seen it once.. maybe twice.
But best of all concerning your parents.. I know of another story.. a short one.. its about a father and son.
The doctor tells the son.. it might not be long.. God Only Knows. So the son asks the doctor.. "What do I talk to my dad about? "
"What ever you two did together before~"
" Fishing ! I'll talk about how we used to go fishing together~"
Well the father and son .. start talking about the good ol days.. next thing you know.. they're planning a fishing trip. Father siting up in bed.. with a zip in his do dah.
Sometimes.. with the elderly.. you need to talk about those days.. and who knows.. maybe you and your father will go over some nice pics.. around your mom. I think it could help for all you.
Its just me.. I know.. lol. it could be worse. you could be trapped in an elevator with me.. or lost at sea.. in a raft.. lol.

I have been following up on that thread about how much people would be willing to spend. Interesting to see, how the thread wandered to the R-T-R vs. kit building and the collector vs. true model railroader topics. Also some peculiar views were voiced there. Seems to me, as if a lot of people don´t care about supporting their own economy. Now, I don´t want to rant about that, it is just that I find this attitude, well, say, peculiar
There are only a few items on today´s HD list for me, so plenty of time to do some armchair model railroading.

DerJohn- We'll see if Mike confirms, but if what you are referring to is what I think you are, the round barrel looking thing is one of them old travel trailers. The old little sorta round ones that people like me and Jim can't stand up in well.
Sam- Uh.... Congratulations.......I think. I know all too well the type of people your instructor who didn't fess up. Sorry about that, but glad for the new job. How's the report from Joyzee gonna affect the engineer part?
CNCharlie- My debit card was as you say yours is. However several years ago, the cards got backed by VISA and now can be used as a debit or credit card. If I use it as a debit, I must enter my PIN. If I use it as a credit I do not. The money is drawn from my account when it is run through instead of billed to me monthly. Also no interest of course. Now, what the big difference is, I have not a clue.
Chris- You haven't missed the party yet, it's tomorrow evening. Her actual Birthday. But, we won't wait for you 'cause it doesn't sound like the truck will be ready and you don't need to spend the gas money anyway. Use the money for some wood for the layout. Missy won't mind.

The truck repair saga continues. Around 4 p.m., the "service coordinator" assigned to my truck calls me up. Good news: the problem wasn't what they thought it was. Bad news: they have no idea what the problem is... She lost power and started making a sound like a deck of cards being shuffled or a card in the spokes of a bike leading me to think a belt had come loose and was flapping. The timing belt is A-OK...the serpentine belt is good too. When she died, I tried to re-start her, and while the starter was cranking, nothing was happening...it was as-if it was disconnected from something. Wrench turners say they get compression, but air is leaking into the exhaust The "coordinator" threw out ideas like a bent or burnt valve. Whatever it is...I'm pretty sure it's been going on for about a year or more as her pep has been lacking, and she has trouble making steep or long hills. I'm also pretty sure it'll be even more expensive than what we've got for funds. With almost 209,000 miles, the guy offered what I hope is a "worst case scenario" of a used engine transplant.
We are hoping it doesn't come to THAT...
JOHN: You nailed it Pal...Political In-Correctness runs rampant...and has ruined our society. I'm not one for offending people for the heck of it...but it really has gotten out of hand as to WHAT you can say, who you can say it to, and even HOW it can be said! DerJohn - is it legal to take a shot at those coyotes there, or is it forbidden 'in-town'? Guess I wasn't sure how big Sober Island's population is. If I lived there, I'd be concerned about the coyotes getting used to humans and going after a child. I've heard of something like that happening in some more rural areas of the U.S.

Been following the discussion on debit cards and I'm a little puzzled regarding their use on-line. In Canada a debit card can only used with a PIN so you can't use one on-line. Debit cards here are used at ATM's or for purchases at a store instead of cash. In fact cheques aren't accepted at most stores. For on-line purchases you must use a credit card. Do you use a credit card as a debit card?

Good evening Diners: Day started with MIL's sink stopper quitting. The end of the actuator arm inside the drain had rusted completely through. Was able to hammer (it wasn't an electrical problem see! LOL) the rod, which is that arm, further through the plastic ball which is the waterproof seal-***-fulcrum for the system. Took a surprising length of rod sticking out the "broken" side to have enough to work the stopper, but there was enough left over for the whole thing to go back together again! Then just before lunch our Internet went down. Turned out to be something to do with the username and password settings in our router spontaneously deciding to not play anymore. Took only 4 phone calls, two each to the ISP and the router's tech support to sort it out, but an hour and a quarter when I could have been working outside before it started to rain. The rain held off until after dark, as it happened, so I did get more done than I had expected.

I wonder if it's still in business. He had photos of trains from all over, and I gave him a picture I took of an Alaska RR train. I'm sure he does not recall meeting me, and I forgot his name, too. I like the area around Manasses.

When I had a problem with mine (back with a bank) being possibly compromised, they had me close that card and issued me one with a new number. Whatever fixes things. On that plastic sub-topic, I do use my d-card online, but only a limited number of places (and I always check for the https and the locked icon in my browser. Yessiree, only safe internet practices for me. Of course, if some thief tried to access my checking account, there wouldn't usually be much to spare in there anyway, so I guess they'd move on to look for a higher-roller than me.

Sawyer, as you said, the speech is over, so not to fret over that anymore. All you could do at this point, would be to practice some in front of a friend or two, so your nervousness doesn't as likely blank your mind next time. Sorry to hear about your losing Sandy - I remember hearing about her for a long while, it seems.
I was thinking of my own 'speech moment' in my junior year of high school...I was at a military academy ('nuther story there, but no, I wasn't that ornery!) and you had to give a speech in front of the whole school (about 300-360 cadets, plus the instructors) once in the year. I was a junior and the other two giving their speeches with me that day were seniors. They get up, speak from the podium, get done and sit back down. My turn comes, I get up, give the speech (did okay, but not outstanding or anything), and sit back down. AFTERWARD, somebody tells me that the seniors get to give their speeches from behind the podium, but juniors were supposed to give theirs standing out beside the podium (no hiding, or something like that). However, since I had given my speech for that year, I didn't have to the following year. Lucked out!

Well, our MRR club is all moved out of the old location now. We got the layout sections moved the tail end of last week/start of this week, and this past Monday got the cabinets put in in the room where we'll have them there. The club secretary/treasurer/LHS owner turned in the keys today to the former landlord and has notified the electric company to remove us from the electric bill on that old location. Next, putting up wallboard on the wall studs, and then start laying out the layout sections for the new (and slightly modified) design. No rent and no utilities, just whatever expense to put ducting from the A/C over to the layout room.
I'll be starting some kitbashing of shells and (chassis's/chasses?) from my Athearn RDC's, plus putting some Ernst regearing kits in two more (have one with one in it, plus another Athearn that came with their gearing - a later version of the Athearn RDC's). Harder part will be getting neat and straight cuts of the shells so I can glue them together without painfully obvious join lines. Supposed to bring the shells to the club meeting Monday night for the LHS owner/member to take a look at how the best way to cut them neatly would be. Yeah, I know, would've been cheaper to buy the P1K versions when they were on sale, but 1) I didn't have the funds at the time, and 2) I just LOVE a challenger - plus 3) I'm able to spread out the expense better this way. Will post some pics as I get going (or maybe start a topic if I can sneak it by the "I know better than you how you REALLY should've done that" RC's in the big forum...)
Oh, Chris - on your iTunes question (assuming it's similar in Windows as on my Mac), once you get iTunes re-installed, drag the folder(s) with the albums (and songs in them) onto the iTunes icon on your desktop, and you should get all of your tunes imported into iTunes. Now, your playlists, you may have to set them up again. Also, go here and check the discussions for possibly 'iTunes crash' and 'restoring playlists' (but usually you need to export a file with the playlists, which I would guess you hadn't done - I hadn't the first time I had a glitch like that). Hope that helps, and email me if you have more questions or need help finding what you need on the iTunes support pages.[edit] Good to hear you got things going again!

On second thought, I think I'll pass on the cake. Luckily, Missy just left the room to go snooze on something softer when I brought up the picture of Reruns preparations. The surprise is still intact.

Ray, you are the proven craftsman, and layout builder. I would love to hear some insight as to how you.. or anyone else should approach the 'setting'. I have seen your pics a thousand times, I know your layout... and we have discussed some of those 'little touches' you do as an artist. I would love to hear some ideas from you and advice.

Sorry I have not been on as of late. I got fired from Transit a week ago after being put Out Of Service pending an investigation... I got caught between two instructors, one said we could do something, another without a CLUE as to what was going on stepped in and said NO YOU CAN'T, and the first instructor then covered his butt instead of backing us up...
But, there is good news within this problem! The Lord has provided me and my fellow classmate, we both got canned, with a new job with the Virginia Railway Express (or VRE for short)!!! We are hired on as conductors to start, while they attempt to get our records from Transit. They said that they hope to get us promoted to Engineer within a year!!! YEAH!!!
The only down side to this is that I will have to move to Virginia... or just find an apartment for me to crash in during the week and come home to my wife on the weekends! We shall see... the VRE is paying for my lodging for the next 4 - 5 weeks while I am in training!
Well, I have to get running, my car should be finished at the shop: Front Brakes (Rotors and pads), brake fluid flush, transmission fluid flush, new headlight for drivers side, and labor... All told will cost me between 500 - 600 bucks, DRAT...

Today, I euthanized our beloved old mare, Sandy. She would have turned 26 in 7 days. Not that old for a horse, but very old for her particular bloodlines. She was the smoothest ride of any horse Barbara ever had. She was also the only horse on our farm who could open "flip & slide" locks on stall doors and would let other horses out of the barn. (we kept her fearless daughter, Twister, also very smart) Rest in Peace, dear old friend.
Cloudy 52 40-55 mph out of south. My web toes keep me dry,garage door open 9in. so cats com and go also some paint smell house door closed. Still working on painting rocks seems to be neverending w**k. Will start connecting wiring next,the least of my favorate things. Well, I've done just adout all I wan....er, can do outside for today. Still need to change oil in the truck and find out where the brake fluids going and a few other things. No, not the rear of the master cyl leak, already checked. I lose out of the rear reservoir, front brakes, but no leaks, and the boots on the calipers don't seem to have any fluid. They probably do though. But you'd think with the amount of fluid I've replaced, which is about 3 reservoirs since about 1st part of Dec, there'd be SOMETHING dripping SOMEWHERE. But, I don't want to get mechanics nails today, I've gotta wait on tables tonight. Yucky view for the customers.
I suppose I should do some laundry for the wife and me. Problem is the sewage pump is acting up and you have to be around when the washer pumps out to maybe trip the switch so the pump runs. Needs a new switch as this one is a bit sticky after 17 years.(yet another project I have yet to do) That means I have to stay in the basement. Of course the trainroom is right next to the laundry/mechanical room so I guess I might as well do some stuff to the layout (sigh). Oh well, the difficult things I do to keep peace in the house and help out the wife. You young kids should take heed to these little lessons.

Welp, "should" be getting Tori out of the truck hospital later today, with a school board meeting tonight. Loving Wife has agreed to chauffer me to it if necessary. Now THAT's love! Not sure if she would sit-in on the meeting...or just sit in the car and fiddle with her laptop however.
On the "plus side," this would've been a "slow" week for THAT anyway... I'll still end up with a larger than usual paycheck on Friday. But...a big chunk of THAT is already spoken for.
In other craptastic news... Loving Wife stuck her compact digital camera in her "my whole life is in this bag" bag one time too many. Now it permanantly shows what looks like an ink blot test. I think the LCD panel cracked. I'm sure it would cost far more to repair than to replace... Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd in the "how can we annoy Chris even more this week?" department, my iTunes now seems to have some catastrophic error. It won't even stay open long enough to run any of it's diagnostic stuff. Fortunately, all files are backed up via Carbonite. The question is, IF I have to remove/reinstall...how do I get the music files into the "new" program?

Regarding those who scam the system, they dulute limted funding that is definately needed by those who have real problems such as you and Jeff. well, today was the Day! I had my interview - only one out of several hundred applications. It went well, at least this is my feeling about it. Whether it will end up in getting the job, I will find out next week. I was all calm, was able to give precise answers as to where and why - now I just have to wait. Decision making in governmental offices is not that fast - we all know that Getting that job would put an end to some of my worries, not all, though.
Inch - yeah, do something about those trees, they look a little small to me. Add some bigger ones and you will definitively get an improvement.
Barry - great! Pictures of your work - I love it!
