Anything "strong" under the counter? In the back room? In Vinnie's office????

Just got word back from the wrench-turners... As usual, it's the labor THAT kicks ya in the scrum...Shock We be looking at a hefty repair bill, actually, its about what I figured it would be. I was only off by about a hundred bucks. Of course, my eternally optimistic Loving Wife figured it'd be much less. The truck fund and the troubled bank account (which has been restored in it's entirety) will cover just less than half. She's gone to talk to some folks about a loan... I'd rather eat my spleen out of my intestinal cavity with a rusted fork than have to do THAT...

It's a craptastic day in the neighborhood a craptastic day for a neighbor....

Since they have to order parts, and it was too late when the dude called me to do so today, I'm looking at maybe having wheels again sometime Wednesday. Good thing, I've got some "must get to" stuff for THAT. Anybody remember when a car dealer's repair shop actually had...a parts inventory????  Not anymore!!!

The truly sad thing about it all... a wrench turner at one place told me months ago to replace a part. Wrench turner at another place felt THAT part was just fine... First guy was right.

I'm payin' for it now...

ROB: Thanks for the complement on the hopper...I too, thought you was a-talkin' 'bout HO scale rather than N-sane scale...

RAY: Hmmmmm, it does seem a bit odd to be buyin' a bag 'o _ _ _ t, but...THAT beats some alternatives, I'm sure! Whistling  I do have a list of some folks I'd like to send one too...but I'm thinking more of the canine variety, in a brown paper bag, engulfed in flames upon their porch!!!!!

Did I say THAT out loud?Evil

JEFF: THAT's quite the mo-sheeen you've got there.  Stick your lighting package on it, and someone might think it's the local paddy wagon...Smile,Wink, & Grin

Have a good-un,

Afternoon!

Chloe I will have one of those RBF to tide me over to supper.

AmanaMedic
Hey RAY: Whatta they getting for a bag 'o s_ _ _ these days??? Smile,Wink, & Grin Do they gift wrap them???Mischief

LOL!  $5 and some change per bag.  I got 10 bags of it.  Made in Vermont (it says on the package) by organically fed cows with no antibiotics or other such stuff.  Top quality S*** if I do say so.  We had the stuff sitting out beside the barn when I was a kid, tons of it, waiting to be spread on the fields.  Never thought I would actually go out and buy the stuff....Whistling  Gift wrapped...?  Well it is in bags.  It is sold by a very large Mennonite landscaping business just outside of Geneva.  http://www.sensenigs.com/   I have been thinking about buying one of the very large rocks for my front yard.....  THAT much less to mow. Whistling

One thing my son told me when I was a teacher and he was milking cows for a living, he told me where he works, the S*** washes off!

Jeffrey, nice job on the Van!  I really like your weathering job on the roof......... Whistling  Sorry I just couldn't help myself.......

Later!

Southern iced tea in a MGRy mug please.

This is what I've got done paint-wise on the van so far working just a few hours a day. I still have to paint the bottom panel below the trim line black but that's a project for another day when the ground is dryer. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here's three pics to save three thousand words.

Coffee refill, please.

***Lee, I should have specified N scale, although the same may well apply to the HO versions.

***Chris, that is a fine looking hopper. Interestingly enough, I am looking at the same "IMC" to iether replace all my UP cars. Either that or swap out all the trucks and sell the IMC cars with old rapidos on the-bay.Whistling Those old UP hoppers hold some sentimental value.

I'm want to change out 95% of the old cars rapidos now. Will leave a few as half & half for engines that still have rapidos and may take time (or hiring someone else) to upgrade them. Plan to start tackling all this next month.

At this point, I have all the N scale trains I need. Although, there are still a few I would "like to add". Me thinks concentrating on the layouts is priority 1 for the foreseeable future. This does not include ongoing upgrades of course.

Model RRing can be a mental game. Cheers! Cowboy Rob

GARRY: Oh yeah man...just another day in paradise...

ROB: I can't speak to what Atlas cars were like then...but I've got some Trainman stuff and like it...a lot!

The couplers look kinda strange...but other than THAT...call me a fan.

It’s hard to imagine someone can get Name, Expiration Date, Card number, and the security code correct to make a purchase.

THAT's what I used to think... Somebody must've hacked into something. Like I said though, it must happen a lot since the CU folks didn't make a fuss, just cleaned up the mess. I doubt I was on the phone more than 10 minutes if even THAT long.

Been chasing down a story lead from THAT THAT has turned into a dead end. There is a road in need of rebuilding, a small town trying to find the bucks to enter into an agreement with the county...all seemed wrapped up but for the final signatures two months ago. Now, a county stupervisor (looks like Hugo Chavez...and is almost THAT far left politically...) has raised questions in his weekly e-mail rant. Well, today, Chavez is back-tracking, and the Mayor of the town says all is fine!  Maybe the story is (headline:) Supervisor discovers his feet make a tasty treat...again (subheadline:) Shueyville Mayor says supervisor "full of  moo-poo."

Hey RAY: Whatta they getting for a bag 'o s_ _ _ these days??? Smile,Wink, & Grin Do they gift wrap them???Mischief

Gotta go call the wrench-turners...see if they've even done so on my truck yet...or if she's still sitting out on the lot.

Chris, I don’t know. After my incident I switched to only using Pay-Pal when available and haven’t had a problem since.  I use to have a $200 limit card I only used for internet purchases, I thought that way if I had an issue it wouldn’t wipe out my entire account.  It’s hard to imagine someone can get Name, Expiration Date, Card number, and the security code correct to make a purchase.  Especially since you don’t use the security code if you sign for a purchase in person.

Rob, there is a pretty big operational difference on the HO-Scale cars; those new steel wheels are smooth and cause less drag, they all seem to weigh the same, and I also think the detail is better on the new cars. I’m pretty much done with the 20-30 year old items…

Atlas Train-man cars: Aside from the couplers, are there any other differences between these and the cars Atlas produced 30 - 40 years ago?

Are you having fun yet, Chris?

I recall when credit card receipts were carbon copies. I also recall, a big credit card bill I got due to theives who got my info from the carbon in the trash bin at the airport where I bought airfare.

These days, I avoid "plastic money" as much as I can. The few porblems I have had in recent years were handled quickly by the credit card companies. I pay with cash or check primarily.

Then the shopping spree went into full swing, in the end the guy bought an airline ticket from NYC to Florida.

Yeah LEE, pretty close. The guy started out buying wireless service, moved on to some gaming site in London, as well as some kind of online sports site. His final act was trying to get an airline ticket. The wireless service charge has already been refunded. The other two were "pending" and have been cleared out, so THAT money never really left (it was just untouchable). The airline ticket was declined. All is apparently well now, at least on THAT front!!!!

I'm left wondering how/where I got compromised... PayPal? iTunes? Amazon? Walthers? Which online transaction was the door opener??? For all I know, it could've even been an online donation sending a care package to the troops, or for a poly-tick campaign... I only use ATMs when I absolutely have to, so THAT risk is minimized. I suppose swiping the card at Hardee's or McDonald's, or Walmart opens the door...

The price of convenience...

Chris, about 5 years ago I had an AOL charge hit my card for $90.  Then the shopping spree went into full swing, in the end the guy bought an airline ticket from NYC to Florida.  PDNYC meet him at the airport on the day of his flight.  I had to go through a bunch of hoops to get my money back and the overdraft charges returned.  Sorry I missed your first posts, does this sound like your situation?

 Mornin' again.....

Need a refill on the dark roast Zoe.  Thanks!

Chris, I figured the CU would handle it with no problem.  THAT is just one of amny reasons I do all my financial stuff at the Credit Union.  After all they work for you, the member, who owns the institution.

Ulrich I also get all my pictures of dead presidents (American green thingies...) at the counter inside.  Oddly enough my Credit Union claims that the vast majority of stolen ID's do not involve doing banking online. They say that dumpster diving or stolen mail accounts for the bulk of stolen ID's.  As much as I was upset with my credit card problems last week, I am certainly glad the Fraud Unit was watching closely (even though it was just me trying to use my card....).  Either way one has to keep vigilant!  Oh, and I am keeping you, your Mother, and your whole family in my constant prayers!!!

 Good Afternoon everyone,

I spent most of the time on the telephone today, as this was the "show down" day with the doctors in the hospital. The news about my mother are not really good. She needs to undergo some pretty complicated surgery, but is way to weak to have that done. The only good part is, that there seems to be no immediate danger any longer. She will have to re-arrange her life quite considerably, though. How to tell her, that she has to accept outside help? The best would be, that my parents would move into a flat nearby us, so we could support them, but for them leaving their home is out of question. A move to a senior residence is also no issue for them. Although my father gets a sizable pension, it would not be sufficient to pay for that. What to do? I feel a little helpless.

Chris - credit/debit card fraud is a nasty thing. It is for that reason I have given up on internet banking and have gone back to paying cash. I saw a report saying that more than 60 % of all ATM´s are manipulated. They read your debit card details, copy it to a card and empty your account, without you noticing it. I get my cash the old-fashioned way, at the counter. Nice to hear, that the CU has reacted promptly and un-bureaucratically . Hope that your truck will also be OK without you having to spend a fortune on it.

Todd - a friendly moo to you too! Just for info, the baseboards are now in place, so all the work in our flat is completed now.

Galaxy - good to see you back! I am sorry to hear about your health problems. I had the same issue about a year and a half ago. Too many medications which should not have been mixed had put me straight away into the hospital. Talking about quality control at the doctor´s office... I hope you will be fine soon - my Angel for this!

I am glad, that my old Merc is free of all those gimmicks and gadgets  today´s cars have. Any back yard garage can service it and do repairs, if necessary. Do we need all these gadgets? My doubts on that.

You all have a wonderful day!

Galaxy:  BTDT about the dang catheter---I ended up in hospital with a heart attack last month---do not need any catheter in me---no way jose--sorry about the back issues and the hospital---we'll pray for your health here---

Understood completelyabout the cath. I didn't explain all that was examined at the hospital either.

Apparently my periocardio {I think} sac and heart are enlarged...and acording to EKG the upper left ventrical {I think thats the one} is not functioning well, possibly leaving damaged heart tissue. I see my cardiologist next month and hope to clear up and issues there. I've had the heart stress test and heart cath exam, but came up wiht a relatively low blockage points. My questions is/was if they see a potential problem while in there, why don;t they fix it then?????

Also issues with my left lung as the bottom lobe appears to have ceased functioning and is headed for necrotic tissue. I have had many issues with my lungs so not surprised. It may have to be removed, shortening my already severely comprimised severe asthmatic function.

I may not be able to pee normally because of the degenerative discs, another serious problem....like you said BTDT witha  cath not pleasant.

BAsically as far as I can tell, all the Dr.s are basically starting to telling me that at 46 my body is ceasing to function normally and while not near an "end", I can;t expect to get better. Every day I will be better and more healthy than the following day.

Yeah, jeffrey, the Kia has so many computer systems in it its not funny. It even monitors the tire pressure for each tire !

That could be good idea, but what if it fails to work correctly. There are switches in the passenger seat taht tell by weight whether or not to turn on the passenger air bags! and theres air bags in the dash, side wall wndows, and the sides of the seats! More things to go wrong. The funniest thing is that It is the only vehicle I have owned with power door locks that doesn't automatically lock the doors when you put it into gear, or reach a speed of 15 MPH. strange that we have to lock the doors manually wiht the auto lock button.

well guys, Ive siad enough. Forgive me my dyslexic typing

Thank you for all the well wishes.

Have a great day!

TODD: Thanks for the input on the debit card situmacation... more on THAT in a bit, but first, Rerun wears a party hat on his birthday...for about 10 seconds! Laugh Loving Wife also ties a balloon to his harness. THAT, he actually likes! He struts around like he's saying "I have a balloon! And you don't!" Oh, and she also puts a party hat on him (for about 10 seconds) for my birthday too. Every year, I issue a memorandum THAT my birthday will NOT be acknowledged in any way, shape, manner, or form. It is after all, just another day. Of course, her and the dog overrule me on THAT and I come home to crap hanging from the ceiling, balloons, dog wearing a hat...

The fuzzy boy is working on a card or something for Missy...he's rather smitten with her though I keep warning him about getting mixed up with a younger woman.Thursday, you say? He just dashed off to his room...I think he's got a project in mind.

The debit card situation is...apparently...resolved! I got the card shut down last night (thanks again RAY!) and the CU has "cleared" the bogus transactions. New cards are enroute, good old fashioned paper checks still work...and life is at least partly good again. Would you believe the knuckle head tried to buy a $795.00 airline ticket? THAT had about as much chance of going through as a snowball passing through the fires of hell unscathed! The silly fool obviously thought I had money! Laugh

Of course, THAT one was declined immediately...

IF the cleared "pending" claims try to present again, I might have to sign an affidavit, but otherwise the mess is cleared up. I was shocked at how...easy the process is. I thought I'd have to somehow prove I didn't do this, do THAT, etc.

Apparently, this happens so often, the credit union doesn't even bat an eye at it...they just wipe out the bogus claims and drive on. THAT's good in a way...not so good in another!Disapprove

Now, I get to sweat blood over what the wrench-turners find. I'm betting on it being the timing belt...just have to wonder if I got her shut down before any engine damage occurred. The last time I had THAT happen, the wrench turner said the valves could've been damaged, but thankfully weren't. Could I have lucked-out a second time????

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes with Some NYS Maple Syrup From Day Brother's Farm in Phelps, NY to go along with my dark roast coffee this morning.  I'll be sitting at the Rivet Counter for a few minutes this morning.

Chris, Hope the damage on the card wasn't too bad!  Hope my info was able to keep it from getting worse!  Good luck with all THAT!

Jeffrey, sounds like you are having some fun with the "new" Van.......  Keep us informed with photos as you go along.

Supposed to be a nice Spring day here in the Finger Lakes today.  Currently 61°F outside with a high around 70° later this afternoon.  The sun has been peeking out from behind some clouds from time to time as well.

I have a list of "must get dones" for the day including buying some Moo Poo for the garden.  Well, THAT's what it is called!  Then I need to rototil it into the garden.  I need to call the food service over at the college so I can get in and decide where I will set up the slide show for the MLK Dinner coming up on Wednesday.  Then I should start printing off the programs, etc.......

I am almost ready to paint the Erie Steam Shovel.  Got it basically assembled last night.  A real bear I might add.  Typical Jordan in having lots and lots of tiny parts to have fun with.  It actually looks pretty good.  photos later in the week.

Hope you all have a great day!

Later!

Good morning all. Raining. Got about an inch since I saw you guys last. I hope my burn pile dries by tomorrow evening. If not, oh well. Since I didn't rake the yard yesterday like I should have, I planned on doing it today. Maybe tomorrow after I get back home.

Today I shall work a bit more on the layout between the bookwork for the church and work at 5. Or, 1700 whichever you prefer.

Chris- I'm sorry to hear about yout debit card number. I was gonna shoot some suggestions to you last night but got sidetracked and forgot. I see Ray has hopefully helped. Mom had that happen and what we did, was go to the ATM and withdraw as much cash as it would allow, then we transferred her money into her savings. I don't recall if the transfer made any difference or not now, but she did end up with a overdraft. Whether it was the evil doers because the account ran out of money or because I overdrew it with the transfer I don't remeber. What I do remember is, when she called the bank that Monday (nice they pick weekends to do this stuff because you generally don't do your online bank stuff on wthe weekends and if you do,you have to wait til Monday to do anything about it) She just came in the stopped the card, printed the transactions, she identified the ones she said were good, opened another account, they transferred the money she had in there, filled out some sworn statement that the transactions were not known to her and that if/when they caught the person she would press charges and or testify if asked, they gave her the money back and all was well. They did catch him and she didn't have to press charges, the Feds did it for her.Nor did she have to testify. FDIC insured brings in a little more muscle than some folks bargain for. But that was a bank and it went quite smooth. I was surprised. Almost like they said "oh, someone stole money from you? Sorry, here, we'll give it back as long as if in case we need your help you will." I have now idea how easy it will be with a Credit Union, so, good luck.

Lee- Had to laugh when I realized you were talking about yard waste when you said 5 trash bags. My first thought was "WOW!!!! How many plants does he have!!??" We don't store much. We have 5 plants that need to be split bad, so we get a lot of little spindly stalks. They are along the porch and there isn't much room for expansion in that area. So, with my Mom the Rhubarb hoarder, my Aunt who only seems to want it from me and not her neighbors and friends, two other families and now just picked up a third who overheard we had some, we don't have much to spare. (Now I wish we could find some Gooseberry takers here. At least when they turn ripe the birds can clean up the excess.) Brenda doesn't really care for it, except when used with Strawberries or this one recipe for a pie that is heavy on brown sugar and I must admit is delicious. When we do store/freeze usually it's just cut it raw in about 1 inch chunks and put in Tupperware or Ziploc freezer bags because that‘s the way we use it. We, or I should say I, do cook it down with sugar, but only to use it like I would a jam or preserves, we don't freeze it that way.

Well I best get a movin'. I want to cut and fit some blue foam for to make the boulevard larger in Gold Creek, and get an idea of the size of my rural bridge so I can start laying my cardboard grid to make the landform.

Oh, in regards to the party hat for the dog. First let me say, It's not my idea. She is my baby, but I do draw the line at some point. Apparently Brenda and Missy are going to have a little Birthday party Thursday evening. I have to work that night so I will not be attending. Personally, I think the party hat is silly. If we had one or she just grabbed one, that would be just a head shaker, but this "search" for just the right one......

In order to keep my position as Master and Supreme Ruler of the House, I don't argue with my wife.

Have a Great Day!!!!

Mornin', bucket of coffee...to go, please 'n thank-you.

RAY: Thanks for the tip! Step one: getting the door shut (your tip did THAT, I hope!). Step two: talking to the credit union...once they finally open up for the day and start answering their phone...  We'll see just how good my financial institution is...or isn't.

Waiting for word on the truck. I'm expecting/planning for bad news. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised... and maybe monkeys will fly out of a particular part of my anatomy, singing in four part harmony.

Todd, I will admit all the rain we have gotten sure treated the rhubarb good!  I pulled all the weeds and cut the grass this weekend and I was amazed that I had 5 forty five gallon trash bags full of the stuff. How do you store your rhubarb?  I cook mine down with sugar then store it in Tupperware like containers.  1 container is equal to one pie or one apple-rhubarb crisp.

Jeff, sounds like my Uncle’s old conversion van, those were the best thing ever invented.  Go camping one weekend haul wood the next.  Did you pick out a new light bar for it?

Good Morning All….

This weekend I broke down 2 56' mill gondolas and 4 40' flat cars.  Painted the wood decks with Burnt Umber and Raw Sienna, the sides I sprayed light grey.  I'm a little surprised P2K rolling stock uses the old fashioned snap in place assembly instead of a screw to hold the trucks onto the bottom of the car.  You would think $32 MSRP rolling stock would have the screw holding the trucks so you can micro adjust coupler heights. I painted the handrails for the turntable bridge and weathered the bottom girder; I dry brushed light grey then covered the grey with a dry brush of rust (china red + Poly rust + RR tie brown) I diluted it with 70% rubbing alcohol to give it a very dull color. I installed the 1 rpm motor, but don't have it wired yet.

New internet stuff... I downloaded a few podcasts from the internet and put them on my phone/IPod.  So far I enjoy the Scotty Mason show (Model RR radio talk show) and rail watchers (short Model RR train TV show) I also downloaded 63 episodes of The Rail Channel (Model & proto RR TV Show) and the Rip Track (Model RR radio talk show).  These are all free downloads.

Here we sit on the last thread before page 2.

I'm afraid though I did get to work on the layout, I didn't get it finished. Maybe tomorrow.

Prayers for those in need.

This evening I pulled the grille and the headlight surrounds and repainted them silver as they should be. I'll let them dry overnight and reinstall them tomorrow. I'll have to scrub the front park/turn lenses with alcohol as some white paite got on them. Same goes for the rear lenses. That shouldn't take long.

---I hope that does not get out of hand here---better get that checked out soon like---

I agree with the forced perspective thing it does work with HO and N scale---there is even a G scale layout not too far from here that has HO and N scale buildings and such for the perspective thing---I got to get some pix of that here---

Good evening .... It's been a busy Sunday for the diners I see.

Galaxy ... I'm sorry to learn you were in the hospital and about your health problems. Prayers for you.

Vincent ...  Are you asking about the Atlas SD24's. My headlights work fine. I've never opened up the two I have. They work well. Eventually they will be converted to DCC, and I'll look inside then. You mentioned P2K Geeps. I have just acquired my first one, a GP7.

Todd ... What? A party hat for a dog? Spare me.

Inch ... Yes, it will be some bon fire. Hobby Lobby is ending its model train business. That stinks. I don't know when I can get there for the clearance sale.

Chris ... Uh, oh. .. The debit card situation sounds bad. Are you protected from fraudulant use of card?

Keith and Der John ... I have used N scale size buildings in my background scenes for forced perspective. I suppose you could use HO in the foreground to force it the other way.

Keith ... Good of you to extend an invitation to others to visit the diner. We should do that more often. Hopefully, there will be no more pie throwing fights.

Barry ... Did you read my sentance above about pies? ... Ah... hmmm ...

Der John and Todd.. and others~ .Concerning HO buidlings.. and its uses in a N scale layout.  And lets try to shine some light on a very dark corner here.

First of all.. the negative.  Have you ever looked at where Nova Scotia is?  It can't be by land, its still frozen this time of year and if it was by land  . lol.. it would be the long way.  By sea.. or by air.  The cost of mailing something from there .. well is 'priceless'.. lol. escecially if you have to mail it back.

The bright side of it.. I foresee using HO buildings on my N scale layout.. and only a few.. less than 3.. that are HO.

But to look at the spectrum of N scale buildings, signs, lamposts,  streelights... the list goes on~  Pheisher (how ever you spell it) people verses Woodland scenics people and other brands. They are NOT all the same size.  I look at the whole spectrum of each building and consider which part of the 'Normal N scale' range it falls in.. and try to look at each one.. well...  as having their own desire and uses to be placed on the layout to give that 'Forced Perspective'

IN the pic.. you'll see... there are two buildings.  The one on the left  (brown/black) is an N scale.. and the one on the right (tin shed)  is HO.

Its really a nice toolshop.. it was listed as part of a N scale layout.. and I could see why.. there was a thin line between the HO building and N scale.  Looking at it.. extremely well built to the max as far as detail... how could I not want it.. and found a nice place for it, up front where you can see it and look into it.  The building on the left is N scale.. but is such a towering buidling.. it just  takes up space.. looking big.. well bigger than this pic. if I see this right.  Side by side.. one dwarfs the other.  Not too mention I plan on drarfing things with larger than 'normal N scale' trees. (lodge pole trees)

.  The other house Jeanne and I lived in.. was in the woods with 100 foot pines swaying in the wind.. so no.. its not out of the normal for us to visualize large trees.

Now Chris.. getting back to Morse Code  .. let me see.. you said..  in Morse    WX ..?

Correct. A Navy meteorologist by the name of Conrad Johnson joined the staff of WMT-TV and Radio in Cedar Rapids in the 50s or early 60s. He was also a ham radio operator. He recorded a sounding of WX   WX  WX  WX as an alert to be used prior to the reading of a severe weather bulletin. "WX" = weather.  Conrad retired in the 80s and died in the early 90s. WMT Radio (600 AM) still uses his WX.The TV side was sold many times over the past 2 decades...

All THAT is why I said we hear it a LOT some days, in Eastern Iowa...

I've made just a lovely discovery...one THAT has me on the verge of putting my fist through the wall... Somebody has gotten ahold of my debit card number...and is on a spending spree. Guess I'll be calling the credit union first thing in the morning, naturally no "after hours" or "24 hour service" availible...or if it is, they sure as hell don't have it listed on their website or statements!!!Angry  This is especially wonderful as tomorrow I should find out for sure what broke on my truck...and how much it will cost.

Of course, all of this occurred within a half-day of Loving Wife saying our finances are "much better" than they were five years ago...like we're making some kind of positive progress or something.

I think it's going to be a very, very, very crappy week...
