JEFF,  I'm really not sold on your fuel cell experiment.  There are lots of vehicles like yours out there as well as after market tanks. You might have to go further afield but you can come up with one.  Get on to E-bay  and do some searching. We'll all feel much better for your safety than having that cell riding shotgun with you.

I've checked a lot of those other vehicles and the tanks are either non-existent or are rusted out. The only after market tank I can find has a ridged design and won't conform to the anchor straps. Having a cell made to fit the space in question would cost in excess of $400 and is out of the question. I've even looked at the tanks of later models of vehicles like mine and ran into the same problem. Either rusted out or won't fit.

As some seem to have a problem with the idea of an internally mounted fuel tank I've put together this crude rendering (top view) to give you an idea of the design. The tank is contained withing two boxes that are both filled expanding foam and both boxes are sealed with the exception of a spill-off pipe. The tank itself is anchored to a metal framework secured by bolts that are anchored to anchoring points beneath the floor. The boxes surround the tank top, bottom, front, back and sides. A spill-off going through the bottom of the containment structure to a hole in the floor channels any spill-off to the outside of the vehicle. The tank is not exposed to the air in the vehicle (unlike my car where the tank is under the back seat and makes up part of the floor and also unlike my parent's car where the tank is behind the back seat with nothing between it and the back seat) but is instead sealed inside of a box filled with expanding foam which is sealed inside a second box also filled with expanding foam.

Hi guys! HAvent been able to post here all weekend as I go the the dreaded "

" instead of the proper tool bar for the insert window. I hate that! That usually means whatever I type in won't get processed and posted and I might as well save my typing fingers. It's there now, so I am taking a chance, but wont be able to do any fancy typing or text changes. Any body else have said problem too? maybe they fixticate it for us??? Prayers for all those in need and we WILL LITE THE PRAYER CANDLE LATER TODAY after my appt. with the pulmonologist and visiting a friend at the same hospital who is having surgery. There have been some pretty impressive pics of real stuff and model stuff here lately. Great pics, guys. HAven't had a chance to say so. I think we will go out to eat this noon. We haven;t been out to eat since we bought the new Kia 2months ago. We usually spend $50 {if we are cheap and that includes tip} to $100 {if we are less cheap and that includes tip also} PER MONTH eating at our usual place, Denny's. If we are cheap we split an entree as that really is enough for both of us to fill on as restaurant serving sizes are usually soooooo oversized. I had surgery on my stomach and esophagus some years ago which left me half-sized stomach so I don't eat a full portion either. Other times, we both opt for different entrees and pay the full price for each. We cut that out as $100 is about half the price of the Kia payment, so out went dining out, even with a whole days worth of necessary shopping {food and household supplies} like we used to. I think we can splurge as othe half had a near to full 40 hour paycheck for this week, so we will treat ourselves. It also gets me out of cooking which is very hard on my back anymore. WE will see what the neurosurgeon has to say about THAT when I see him later next month. The garge sale I wanted to have is out as my back can't take it. I will see what I can give away to charity, *** few things in the paper for sale, and just throw some stuff out to get rid of it. MAybe someone will pick it up curbside. I went on a rampage last summer and threw out half the crap-shtuff on the enclosed front porch. Now it is full of cans and bottles to be returned. Hey, maybe we do that today too! PRoblem is, when you clear out a space of crapola-shtuff, it tends to get refilled with more crapola-shtuff you didn't know you had so you move it around, or collect more stuff. I have sworn off buying more stuff for hobby-type endeavors as I tend to loose interest. I won;t loose interest in trains, but will have to armchair it until we get a great model RR space with a house over it! I have closet of stuff packed so nicely in plastic storage binds filling one closet of shtuff I brought with me when I moved in with my other half 10 yearsago. I Do know of about maybe 10 things in those bins I would like to save, the rest I do not even remmeber what is there anymore. If I don't know I have it, then I don;t need it anymore as I havent used it/looked at it in about 8 years. Now watch me wax sentimental as I look again. But NOPE, I have made up my mind like the porch. The closet is packed full, I know. UNFORTUNENATELY THAT closet is in the train room, a room which we can barely get into now as it is, let alone get to the cram packed closet! I just hate to throw out stuff someone else can use, not necessarily to make lots of money on it. But with my other half working and my back out, it would be unrealistic to think about a garage sale now. Seriously. I envy Todd, I think it is, with the neighborhood garage sale and junk cleanout days. There is supposed to be a big roll-off dumpster during the summer for the trailer pasrk for such cleanout/cleanup for the summer but they have a nasty habbit of hiding it in some remote restricted area so they can SAY it is there, but you can;t get to it so it doesn;t get filled and cost them a lot to remove our crap. UNFAIR. Wow, I got winded on that one! Have a great day guys! Wow. I got winded on that.

HMMMM....I SPLIT THIS INTO SEVERAL PARAGRAPHS BUT SINCE IT WON'T LET ME POST PROPERLY WITH OUT THE TOOL BAR IT PUT IT INTO ALL ONE PARAGRAPH. SORRY, ANOTHER THING MAKES ME GO "HMMM".

Good morning all,

Making molds:  Well I had a few neighbors over this weekend to inspect the finished product of my mold making.  I took a small crate and some scrap loads and cast them using the two part plastic instead of the plaster of Paris. I painted the 30 duplicates I made and the prototypes flat grey and set them out on a sheet of plywood. Out of 5 inspectors only one 14 year old girl found the original out of all the duplicates.  I asked what gave it away…she said the original was heavier than the copies.   I’m long overdue for updated pictures so I’ll work on that tonight.

Now I’m going to try and get caught up on all the posts I missed….

Finished the 1st coat of paint on mtns.  Change colors and started on sea ,all around the cove was painted the same as rocks about 1-2 inches with rocks that look to have fallen off the sides ;painted the cove black in cntr.then added a dark green mixing it with the black at the edges now I'm starting to use a dark blue at next edge and all around the piers and some thrown in the cntr. now is the time to let it set and paricually dry (LOUSY SPELLER NO SEC.)she died in Oct. Have to find a new one...LOL......Looking for an SP&S coffee mug for home......Fair Winds and Following Seas.......chuck

Whistling

Evening gang,

Chloe I'll have much the same as I had the other morning, That is cinnamon toast, but tonight I'll chase it with an RBF.  Thanks.

SAWYER;  Very sorry to hear that of your gramma. Rest assured there will be prayers offered.

JEFF,  I'm really not sold on your fuel cell experiment.  There are lots of vehicles like yours out there as well as after market tanks. Jeff, here is a cute southern story for you, and it goes like this:

A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened
the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the
cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The
man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20
bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from
the drawer... $15. [If someone points a gun at you and gives
you money, is a crime committed?]   Confused

Just got my copy of "HOW TO BUILD REALISTIC SCENERY #7.  It is pretty informative and well done.  However it should have been called  "The Cody Grivno Show"   Cody has sixteen of the 27 articles in this issue.   Way to go Cody..............By the way, the hat and shades really make the "MAN"  Thumbs UpThumbs Up

We were so looking forward to going to the lake this week-end to open up the trailer for the year.  However as it is so often with long week-ends it was raining Friday evening and all day Saturday, but we did finally get out there for a few hours this afternoon, got the yard cleaned up, batteries into the trailer, flushed out the antifreeze out of the water system and loaded it with fresh water. Stocked the shelves with lots of grub and the fridge with some frozen items. Wife cleaned all the cupboards and rearranged things. Then we went to a birthday party for a neighbor of ours at the campground, so all in all, the week-end wasn't a total loss.

Planning on sitting in the Jacuzzi for 1/2 an hour and then get some ZZZZzzzzssss. back to work in the morning and for the next seven days with only Friday off.

Good to see Sue back in again. It certainly has been a while.  She always adds a nice touch to the place.   Please come back more often Sue.  You are sure easier to look at than some of the old boots that are regulars here.  Lol.  Laugh

Hard to believe there is only a week of May left.  Time is sure going quick lately.

Well as Jerry would say, "Ya all have a good-un"   Night all.

Did some switching using the unoccupied main arrivals track in the yard. How prototypical would that be? Are those tracks reserved only for arrivals, or are they available for switching moves when clear?

Sawyer: Sorry to hear that about your Gran. Prayers for her, naturally. Had the same sort of news about a neighbour when I called around this afternoon. Last time I saw her, it would be last Sunday, she was worried about her mother. Now today she tells me that, while her mother isn't a whole lot better, her sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer during the week, operation soon, but no date set. Sister's name is Donna, for those given to praying.Angel

Rob: You said a page or so ago that you had a steam loco missing a bell (N Scale). Well...remember I said I'd taken a house off its plastic lawn base?  Guess what one of the things stuck to that base was? A pole with this on the top. Of no discernable use to me, but if its of use to you (I'm sure you can free it from that strange ring thing, leaving enough to look somewhat like a loco bell when suitably painted.), send me your address!

Have to set up the VCR to catch a program airing tonight 'Who Killed the Electric Car?' My informant's blurb about it reads in part

GM had in production an amazing all-electric, mid-size car, to meet a state requirement by California. You will see some of the movie stars who had these amazing cars. GM was at least 5 years ahead of any firm in the world with its technology. GM went from that pinnacle of leadership to 'bailout' in just a few years. Hard to imagine
Anyhow, it starts here later than I want to be up, so I hope to record it.

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

***Der, copy and paste the following on the-bay, it will take you right to them:

20X 5mm LED Light Lamp Set Pre Wired 12 Volt Warm White

***Todd, Ditto on the basement (dungeon/workshop) and our train room. Always comfortable year round. Only reason I open the train room windows is to help dry something or to air out paint & glue fumes.

Wife keeps coming up with more "interesting" ideas for her layout. Should be quite something when it all comes together. Not sure what, but something.Smile,Wink, & Grin

aPPARently, I forgot that there is about a half dozen kids graduating High School today we needed to go see. Needless to say, after church, I got nothing done. Now I'm debating on changing clothes and mowing like I should, ooooooor....., taking a short nap and forgetting about the yard until tomorrow and heading down stairs to apply some cardboard stripsBig Smile.

Rob- Generally the windows are open at night when the weather gets warm. However the last several days have not been so warm that the house heated up and in the evening just the bedroom windows were cracked for the fan to draw in a bit. So, silly me, I did not open the windows in the rest of the house last night, so the house didn't get a chance to cool down to outside temp of 68 and the temps this morning rose quickly. We have several fans running and there is a breeze running through the windows, but I'll have to admit the temp (91) and the humidity make it a bit stuffy. The wind is picking up some so the breeze is going good. Tomorrow should be better because the windows will be open all night. Of course the basements nice and cool.

I'll check in later and let you know what my decision was. Wo*k or play.

Good afternoon Diners: Where's Ulrich? Not like him to be away for this long. Hope there isn't a crisis. Come to that, as some-one asked the other day, where's PC?

OZJim: Welcome back, have a Lammington on me! (Was it you or OZRay introduced those a while back? In any case OZRay led us to this little beauty on the Sydney to Hawksbury line.)

Sue: Nice to see you in again!

der, are you still picking up the tab?
yes indeed, and the Special today is Nova Scotia Eastern Shore Lobster - (in this case Port Dufferin / Beaver Harbour.) potato salad, coleslaw, tomatoes, and soft rolls - and since this is virtual, zero risk of allergic reactions to shell fish, or any nuts in the dessert of your choice. Thumbs Up

How is your layout progress?

...slow, but since you were last in noticeable. Jessetcook Station built, East Sydney Station and East Sydney Annex Station painted in MT colours. New lighting for the "dark end" of the Montreal - Ste. Elinore yard (over-the-sink light from our daughter's kitchen re-engineered)and the Ste. Elinor comuter station painted for MT and a platform added.  I'm not sure if you saw these additions to the engine service area at East Sydney.  And did you catch the modern sanding facility at Montreal Ste. Elinore yard? There have been some purchases of modern tank cars, and knuckle couplers finally fitted to that McCain Arcticar.

We used switch lists with a  fast clock.

Did you see the article in May MR about fast clocks?  IIRC the writer came down on the side of not running the session out to the completion of runs for all trains on the layout, but just leaving everything where it is when the time for the session is over. He was of the opinion that this is the "wave of the future" (my take on it, not his exact wording) and happens to be how I've always done things! That's why there is a train right now at Danielsburgh to which nothing will happen until I next get around to it - and no sleep is being lost in the mean timeThumbs Up

Rob: Close call there - had you said "in Horribly Oversized" it could just mean she prefers a loose fit in clothing! Clown From where are you getting those warm white LEDs?

BTW, Lee thanks for all that info on the Micro Mark casting materials. If only the quantities weren't so large. The cost is pretty steep, and the amount I need not great. If I'm going that route, I'll definitely have to budget for that.

May or may not be in again later. TTFN.

Hello ...

Todd ... Monday is coming soon of course. I'll keep Anthoney's surgery in prayers. Yes, you should be concerned about your Mom.

Oz James ... Good to see you again.  Feel free to viist more often.

Sue .... Ditto what I said to Oz James

Rob .... Be careful about phrasing oversized! Whistling

Sam ... I look up Manassas on google. I think the old depot is a museum now. So much for the neat coffee shop.

Below shows some of my present track laying. I am show it so you can see I use push pins to get the track in position before nailing it down. I have rulers and home-made curve templates nearby to get it ligned up. Rail must be cut precisely so you do not have unwanted gaps. I paint the track first with a blend of black, brown, mineral red, and tan. Paint on rail heads will need to be cleaned off later.

The cork roadbed was installed first using a staple gun. I used a hmmer on each staple to make sur it does not protrude upward and interfere with track installation.

Strong Italian coffee in a  UNION PACIFIC  mug, please.

***Barry, that middle pic is most interesting. Looks like a heavy load, whatever it is!?!

***Sue, nice to see you. How about posting some layout progress pics for us? Yes, wife is Horribly Oversized (that didn't come out right) and I am N-visible (that didn't sound good either). Laugh

***Todd, we open the windows at night with a box fan going to cool the house off, then close up during the day. Come evening, it is time to let the breeze back in, but it is comfortable enough and sure beats the INSANE power Bills we get otherwise. (highs here in the upper 80s, lows in the lower 60s)

Ordered 40 more warm white LED's today.

Healing thoughts for those in need.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Happy Victoria Day, to our friends to the north.

I thought that I would stop by for a quick coffee this morning.   der, are you still picking up the tab?  How is your layout progress?

Rob,  I was trying to remember, is your wife modeling in HO scale?  I laughed at the church scene.

I attended an operations session with our local MR group.  Since it was my first time, I was paired with someone with more experience.  The hardest part was learning digitrax (we have MRC).  We used switch lists with a  fast clock.  The dispatcher controlled the turnouts on the mainline by computer.

I had a  blast.

Good morning all and Happy Pentecost Sunday to those of you who care. Happy Sunday to those of you who don't. Suppose to be a wonderful sunshiny day today. Oh slight possibility of a stray thunderstorm, but mostly clear and sunshine high of 91. I will mow today. The windows are still open and the cool breeze so far is not making the wife ask how hot it is every 2 minutes and 17 seconds. I think we will make it through the day, then depending on how well the house cools tonight we may make it through tomorrow, again 91 degrees without the air. After that, it cools to the 80's. That is manageable, but the sunny 90's get a bit warm for just the windows open. Of course the basement is cool and you know what's down there don't you!!!????

Have a Great Day!!!!

It's quiet tonight. Oh, just noticed the time here. That could explain it.

Been thinking about adding a new steamer (or two) to the N scale roster and parting with a few as well. Choices are as follows:

1) Bachmann Heavy Mountain. Probably asked before, but don't recall. Anyone have any experience with these?

2) Kato Mike. I still have the original version with all the loose fiddly parts and have just discovered the bell is missing after that hobby store had it. Gurrrr! Plan to sell it on the-bay & put funds towards one already assembled.

3) Kato GS-4 Wartime. (Have the Daylight version and LOVE IT. Thought the wartime scheme could be put to work at other times or double headed with the pretty one.

4) LifeLike Mallet. Have heard only rave reviews of these. Suppose to sound better than the Athearn articulated beasts. I have the Bigboy and it's a mighty pretty loco. The sound is a bit lacking though. Then again, do I really need another larger loco anyway?

Depending how much stuff I decide to sell on the-bay (and then add a little more to that total), figure I might acquire 2 of those first three options or just the one Mallet. Thoughts?

Good evening. All is well. Thanks for the well wishes for Mom and Anthony. He is doing deceptively well. Acts like is old little self again. Hopefully Monday the surgery will go well and it will be the beginning of the end of his problems. Mom however, I'm afraid is not doing well. Healthwise her heart is good and everything, but she is now starting to have blackout spells. They are going to try and figure that out. Her shoulder may have a hairline fracture or severe bruising or as Chris(  I think) said, a torn cuff or soemthing. The doctors say there is something that's wrong though not serious, just painful. What worries me is her attitude. I can't explain it. It just concerns me. The look in her eyes is not the same.

Garry- the trial is still on and now with the latest developments, I'm told the charges will be amended and not in his favor.

High note and train related, while visiting Anthony he heard a train horn and we went to the window to watch the "choo-choo". The hospital is about a half block from the Norfolk Southern lines with nothing but a parking lot btween them so, had a great view of a long roadrailer. I guess they're called. And shortly later a mixed freight. Well, actually the roadrailer was a mixed freight I guess, after all the roadrailers it did have a few boxcars and a hopper or two. Would tell you what the locos was, but you know me, can't tell an AC6000 from an 8-40cw. Kind of a treat too I don't get to see much variation in trains as the UP line that runs through Williamsville mostly carries covered hoppers, a few box cars a gondola once in a blue moon and if you're real lucky you might catch some kind of tank cars ever so often. Of course I can always count on an exciting AmtrakSigh.

Well, can't remember what else I was going to say so I'll say goodnight.

Prayers for those in need.

Bowl of mixed fruit, please.

***Robby, you have a cool (and lucky) friend there.

Finally have something to report on:

Wired LED's for 11 of the wife's city buildings. Then I discovered several of those buildings have floors in them, so only the bases are lit. Will drill holes and add extra LED's for the upper floors another day.

Also set the white picket fence around the church grounds and laid grey gravel down. BTW, my wife plans to have the preacher holding a pair of snakes at the church door with parishioners fleeing out into the parking lot. I think the Tent Revival taking place in town here had something to do with her decision. She still wants a picnic on the grounds behind the church, so not everyone will be upset.Whistling

Jeff:I think the stupid By-Law was invented North of your border! For instance, it is illegal to ride a horse up the steps at Toronto City Hall, on the western edge of which city, that horse would have to have red marker lights if traveling at night in Etobicoke...or such was the case back when we knew Pete Fletcher, and I doubt if either law has been repealed in the decades since then! Sigh

Here's a beauty that's still on the books here: Any automobile being operated after dark must be preceded by a man on horseback carrying a red lantern. And get this! You can still be hung here for horse thieving, though I personally have not heard of any horse thieves being hung in recent decades. Besides, most of the horses stolen around here are under hoods.

John, the station is an old bachmann Plasticville kit I've had for what seems like forever. The green is supposed to be vines; I haven't made much progress on the other buildings. and thanks you, I've had that sign for WAYYYYY longer than the station kit.

Good evening Diners: OooooH! TOP honours, it's been a while. There was a lobster supper in Port Dufferin today, so let's pretend Kris won the lobster door prize, and the lobster dinners are on her today!Dinner Beautiful weather for a holiday weekend (Monday is Queen Victoria's Birthday - aka Victoria Day - May 24th, the unofficial start of summer in Canada )

Garry:

Sam ... Enjoy Manassas! Very nice town!  I'm curious if the coffee shop made out of the old depot is still there.
...and an awesome looking Wye too, so I see from Google Earth...I wonder if Sam will get to play on that Cowboy

Barry: Nice shots! The Procor car reminded me that a chap we knew way back in the late 60s, Pete Fletcher, had at one time the job of keeping track of ALL of Procor's cars! Still had time to be an all round fun guy. Big Smile

Jeff:

Down here in the south the inspectors don't check things like that, and even it they did as long as it's completely sealed off from the passenger compartment it's allowed. Hot rodders and antique car buffs do it all the time with fuel cells and adapted tanks. State inspections here consist of checking the headlights, taillights, turn signals, tires, horn and glancing underneath to see if there's a catalytic converter.
....The horrible Northern thought flashed unbidden to my mind, "Live Free AND die" Mischief
Now as for a stupid law or two, in this state it's illegal to gargle in public places. Can you believe that? Wanna get ten years behind bars? Steal an alligator. There are a bunch of others that are real beauties but I'm definitely NOT going there.

Sawyer: Interesting station - I don't think I've seen that one anywhere  before. BTW, I've been meaning to ask before this, many of your buildings have a generous amount of greenery on the roof.  Is that moss, or some other plant? We get moss on older roofs, but not in the quantities apparent in your scenes. Difference in climate perhaps.  Neat sign on your door BTW

Galaxy: Glad you are feeling more comfortable, you certainly sound it.

I think it was some Christian folk didn't like seeing a bed move across the street on a Sunday!
An aversion pre-dating Sunday itself - see John 5: 8-10! Smile

Todd: Hope your mom's shoulder is seen to ASAP, and correctly. Also, praying for Andrew, that the cyst will be successfully removed and he gets healed up with no further complications..Angel

as I look at the clock on the screen, ............
When we were in Town on Friday, Kris went to the brand new mega-library built out of a Multi-plex Movie Theater that moved. They have no clock on any wall!  She asked at "Customer Service" for the time (I was to meet her there after going to the City to the LHS) and was told - "There is a clock on every computer screen!" Confused

What did I get at the LHS? Not much, a used turnout for the replacement project  in my lower level tunnel passing siding; but did score a free one that has to have a running rail glued back in place, and this built up for $7 at the second best LHS on the way home. It's going in my city scene somewhere around here.

Need to get some rest - the mowing took all afternoon because the riding mower's battery isn't holding its charge, and I started in with the push mower while the charger did its thing on the riding mower. Finally got THAT going once about 80% of the mowing had been hand done. Grrrr.Grumpy What's annoying about this is the battery is not old, and I wintered it over in the basement rather than just leaving it in the machine in the garage, The original equipment one lasted about 7-8 years before quitting, not house wintered at all! Anyway, it's all mowed now, and looks the better for it.

So, Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

Just a quick stop, and then bed.

The party was real good.  About 30+ people showed up.  Mainly CSX engineers.

Here's a light from my friends back yard.  The lights work and all!!!

Jeff, the bumper stick I suggested is a paraphrase of a real one I found on line at the same site THAT has the stupid laws.......

I can believe that. I used to see them on Ford Pintos when I was in Germany in the late 70's. "WARNING! THIS VEHICLE MAY EXPLODE ON IMPACT IN A REAR-END COLLISION!"

Evenin' folks!

Flo I'll have one of those brownies with chocolate chip ice cream on top and a decafe.  I'll go sit in the back to unwind.

I had no more than posted earlier when I noticed my son had called about an hour before I got home.  I called back and he said they were just sitting down to dinner and come on over if I wanted to.  So I climbed in the car and got over in time to have supper and dessert, and spend some time playing with my Granddaughters. Big Smile

Todd, earlier I somehow missed that your grandson is back in the hospital.  Sorry to hear of that, but i know he will be in good hands!  He and the rest of the family are in my prayers!

***Ray, seems you aren't working nearly hard enough.Wink

Hey THAT ain't work!  I do those things just for fun.....  Wish I had time to spend a lot more time out there.  The museum is looking very good this year after the removal of tons and tons of junk vehicles, cranes, bulldozers, old engines that will never run again, etc., etc., etc.

Later!
