We had an interesting day of travelling around and spotting all kinds of schtuff----first off we got stopped by this
the fellow gave with a "shave and a haircut---" bit on the horn.
We then went to a little place named Arkona where we found these old relics---
and I came across this little gem---tucked behind the one on the corner--
Observe the crooked "brickwork" herein---this was due to shifting of some sort
Oh---roads around here get a new patchwork laid down on them---if'n anyone gets piculous about appearances on roads as regards to many patches lay this on them--
We also found a bunch of tracklaying equipment at Komoka ON that I had to get--
All kinds of schtuff we fell over here---

***Keith, handsome pup you've got there. Does it still have that most tell tail() "puppy breath?" My wife had husky/wolf hybrids long before we ever met. Have always thought the husky to be one of the neatest looking dogs there are. Looks like you're being entertained out there.
HUGE Snapping turtle took out one of the baby geese today and my wife was there to witness it. Will try setting a coon/fox size trap for it with some kind of meat. Hopefully we can catch it quickly. If not, anyone have a good recipe for turtle stew? We're covered up with these particular turtle species. IF I had been down there at the time of the incident, I would have lunged into the water and grabbed it, with an end of story shortly there after.

Galaxy.. Yep.. most people don't truly understand what it is to be de-hydrated.. I usually use the word.. 'Exacerbate'.. to make things worse. By the time you realize you should have been drinking water.. its too late.. vomitting.. diarrhea.. and in both cases.. makes you lose water even more.. thus compounding the problem.
Garry? .. and / or a few others..that asked about my cat and how long did I have her. Well in short.. I had my cat about 8 years. And I do my cat... of all of us.. she picked me. Well aside from the Husky.
This all dates back to when we were considering letting the Husky have one litter. She is kind of rare and wanted to perhaps continue this "Copper' breed. The Husky had been digging holes.. and making nests around the backyard.. and was taking us for all to see. Yes.. she wanted to be a mother. Well we had her fixed.. and it was kind of a let down. So we got her a kitten. Her very own.. and she loved it.
As the kitten got older.. she was tough.. downrat mean and never put up with anythang. You could never really pet it.. she'd turn around .. claw and bite you. Except for me and the Husky. Well.. being raised by the Husky.. she knew how to take on big dogs. Many of nights had I walked down the hallway to see her buried in the Husky's neck of thick fur.. kneeding the fur as if nursing.
Well after the loss of my cat.. and I know this for sure.. because I had to bury half a cat.. well things were pretty gloomy. The dogs didn't even want to go out... for days.. almost 4. Well the kids are back home from college.. and my son had rescued a pup.
Yep.. he brought the Husky a baby.. lol.. just what we need.. another dog for the summer.~ (he's going back to Chico shortly)
Well he brings out this wobbly thing of a hound dawg.. and lets the Husky lose with it. The pub sat down.. didn't know what to do. Well what would you do if you saw a wolf?
But the Husky did very little and just watched it.. and smelled where it had just walked. Nothijng too exciting.. but each one was watching the other.
As time went by.. we could see the Husky was happy.. being a mom again.
She started to get very 'protective' of it.. and my daughter is trying to figure it out.
Probably because the 'Yapper' was let lose.. and the Husky wanted to make sure the pup didn't get bit.
Now two days later.. and I can't believe how well .. and how much this pup has grown.
Grown to this..
His name is 'Buddy'.. and thats what he's been to the Husky. The pup couldn't have come at a better time.
Mother and Son.
She's very protective.
Buddy runs .. and runs.. bites.. can't jump much.. but he's around 5 cats.. 3 dogs.. and he's learning~.. lol. He's gone for walks.. and pretty much knows how to handle himself out and about.
But aside from eating.. (cat food too).. he's enjoys something the whole house loves.. him taking a nap.
Everything nice and quiet... ahhhh~ He's suppose to be half German Shepard and half Lab if you look close you'll see the tuff's of his paws are black.. has black nails.. black nose .. black eyelids and a tint of black into the brown along his back and running down to his tail 'Ridgeback'?... all I know he weighs 20 lbs today.. and it seems as if you can watch this guy grow on an hourly bases. And the other thing I know.. the Husky is happy.

Inlaws had lunch out on the porch and are now parked in front of the boobtube. Think I'll go nock off one of the HD-list items, like getting a couple tubs ready for the soon to hatch out keets/chicks (both guineas & turkey).

My saw is an old Sachs-Dolmar I have had for about 25 years. Just needs a good cleaning and service. Been a few years since I had it done. Didn't even start it up last year. Got out to the Museum yesterday, saw started up fine but I found the chain was making fine sawdust instead of the nice chips it should make. It was cutting in a circle as well. Took THAT chain off and went to put on the only sharp chain I had left and found it was badly rusted. Must have gotten wet a few times sitting in the tin shed by the house. It didn't have much use left in it anyway, as it was down to little nubs on the cutters. Soooooo, I'm getting a new chain for it and getting the other 2 sharpened on his machine. It should be ready Friday morning. I will probably spend Saturday out at the Museum cutting wood for next winter.

Ahh, the news of my demise was greatly mis-reported!
WOW, its been a while since I've been in the diner, things have been absolutely insane around the house. First things first, we've had a bit of computer trouble as the AC charger for our laptop let the smoke out of itself a while back so we've been coming over to my FIL's house to use his desktop, but we're both rationing our time on it so that we don't keep it tied up, afterall its his computer and we have to respect that. On top of that I've been working up a storm and the shop's been really busy recently too. I'll have a RBF and a order of biscuits and gravy.
I got the June issue of MRR (yeah, I know, late, but I'm getting it at the grocery store as soon as I see it). I really liked the freight yard, and the more industries in less space articles. I actually plan on using the information in the more industries article as the Conecuh Valley RR (COEH) does the very same thing on their line. They serve a scrap yard that doesn't have a rail spur, so they just park one or two gons adjacent to the plastic pellet loading facility and use a backhoe with electromagnet and dump trucks to take the scrap to the yard. I also like the subtle changes that the mag has made.
Well, not much else happening in my neck of the woods, just working, working, working, and looking to get the AC adapter replaced for our laptop so that we can use it at the house and I'll be able to stop in here more often that just once (this month...)

BTW, I've seen an "interesting" locomotive on Q650 (Waycross, GA -to- Montgomery, AL), so far the power lineup for the past two days has been one -8, one AC4400, one ES40DC, and CSX 4601, a former Conrail SD80MAC. Kinda cool to see it since I've not ever seen one up close and personal. I also of course think that it is funny when I hear the GE power spooling up to move the train, but the 80MAC doesn't come above idle (that's power right there!).

well. (Deep subject..) it isn't quite 11AM here in the Finger lakes, and it is already 82°F out there! Wish i could just spend the day in the basement with the trains. But, there is w*rk to do, much of which involves being outside in the sun.
I managed to break one of my hearing aids last night before bedtime so I have to call the Hearing Center and get them both in for repair and cleaning..... Huh? Oh they give me a loaner when one is in the shop.
I have to make a bank deposit tghis morning and get the chainsaw over to the repair place as well. GHuess I better not hang out all day in here, although i do like the airconditioning.

I received my ExactRail waffle side box car a couple of weeks ago. I too was impressed by the details and printing on this car. Mine is the Buffalo & Pittsburgh, so it fits in perfectly with my Western Pennsylvania collection.

We had our plumber install safety handrails around the bathtub this past Monday. The wife has been having some problems with her hips and knees, making it difficult for her to take a bath or shower. I thought this would be of help to her, and now I find myself wondering why we didn't get them years ago. He also replaced the shut off valve for the toilet with a quarter turn ball valve. What a difference from having to use channel locks on the old valve.
Well, time to sign off and cut the grass in the back yard this morning, do some weeding in the flower beds, and try to get some other chores done. Everyone have a good one...

By the way , I just received in the mail a new waffle sided box car from Exact Rail, signature series, in the Duluth Minnesota & Eastern lettering. A little pricey for a box, but I wanted to have a waffle side and I must say I am impressed with the detail.. I do not hesitate to tell you to check these out. They are great. Also as of late a new gondola arrived. It is a Walthers Gold Line 53 footer in the DT&I scheme. I know, I know, what are these doing on a Western Pacific layout?? Well I just liked them and they have become part of my inter-lined rolling stock.
Can anyone tell me what the letters are that are on the upper right corner of the waffle-sided car ? those letters are GS&F. The car itself is DM&E.

***CNCharlie, my Bach-LM ran a bit jerky right out of the box and never did completely smooth out. They have quality control issues, as I experienced. Although very similar, their HM versions are suppose to have all those bugs fixed and run extremely well. I intend to find out for myself (in a month or two) if this is true. Fingers crossed. --- I already have a Kato Mike and it does run well, but I gave up on the idea of applying all those tiny parts, especially now that they come already installed. --- As for DC/DCC, I'm thinking seriously of having both, separate mainlines but with some access to the same industrial complex. Nothing set in stone yet.

Just got a call from my #1 son during his evening break at work. He said he was supposed to call me earlier today and forgot. It seems that my #1 Granddaughter, Olivia, fell off her swing set last night and broke her collar bone. Seems she decided to try swinging with no hands....... Her mom checked her over after she fell and she seemed to be alright, could lift her arms normally, etc. So she didn't think much of it. Later in the evening she was going to the store and was taking Livie with her and she started to cry when she was climbing up into her seat. Seems her shoulder was hurting a lot, so off to the emergency room. she got x-rayed and they found she has a break. Mom and daughter got home a little after midnight after close to 4 hours in the emergency room. Busy night! Just their luck. Anyway Olivia has a follow up with her pediatrician tomorrow. My son said she was very good at the emergency room and co-operated with the doctors and techs for the ex-rays and all the poking and prodding. She is a good little lady!

Robby P. All this started when she went to see the family doctor (after the car wreck), and he gave her a month off. Her company didn't want her to have a month off, so they made it a workers comp. claim. to see if they can get her back to work quicker.
THAT sounds pretty....well...."messed" up right there! I'm trying to wrap my mind around how they (her company) went and made a workman's comp claim out of this... Since she required hospitalization, and they're calling it a "workman's comp" issue...seems to me they'd have to list her on the OSHA 300 sheet...reporting her as a workplace injury.
Man...somethin' just don't smell right.
Not sure who "the lawyer" is...but sounds right to me: her seeing whatever durn doctor she chooses...especially if the wreck did NOT happen on company time or in a company vehicle.
Keep a sharp eye out buddy...keep a sharp eye out. Hopefully, at least she's getting some relief from the headaches??? Mine had a spectacular rollover at highway speed... never had headaches before THAT....gets 'em with some regularity now. I won't bore you with the list of permanent side-effects/deficits from MY little fire engine adventure.... Funny thing about the human body: you subject it to trauma...and it has a long memory, even after the wounds have "healed."

Welp, we decided to go with the engine transplant... The lead wrench-turner (actually, I think he just sits at a little table and appears to be the lead) says "worst-case" would be I won't have her back until Friday... Loving Wife is anticipating the "best case." I think, the "worst case" will be an overly optimistic presumption...and in reality it will be NEXT week along with a slew of new "discoveries" and attendant charges to go with it. Fortunately, the Wife is able to take off early (goes in early to compensate) to get me to the assignments for the week: school board meeting tomorrow evening and high school baseball on Thursday. She's taking a week of vacation, starting Friday; so getting to "face time" won't be an issue.
I don't think THAT even realizes I've been without transportation this long. I just keep cranking out content for her. The advantages to being able to w**k from home!
I think I've blathered on enough...so will yield the floor, settle in at the RC with a tall, cool RBF...

Rob, why did you get rid of your BMan Light Mountain? I know they don't pull a lot but mine doesn't struggle with a dozen cars and Klein's had them on sale for $60 a while ago. I thought that at that price what could I lose. I too would like to get a Kato Mikado and that will be my next steam purchase especially if they make a DCC ready version. I am trying to only buy locos that be converted fairly easily should I decide to go DCC for my future N empire. I have it for my HO layout and really like it especially as most of my locos have sound.
I'm on 4 days holidays now so the HD list is getting whittled down. I have painted the bathroom which may not sound much but their was a lot of prep work what with towel bars, etc. Also our bathroom is fairly small and that problem is compounded by a wall seperating the tub area. We were going to take it out until we found there was a plumbing stack in it so the bathroom reno would have been very expensive had we gone that route. Like everything in our house any reno costs 50% more than typical as the house was a custom design and the architect put style first. A few years ago we wanted to replace the door and storm door at the back of the house. Naturally it wasn't a stock height as it lines up with a row of windows. The result was a lovely custom made cherry door and just a painted wood storm door that cost 3 grand installed.
No progress on the RR but I did manage to run the Lakeland Express a couple of days ago. That is a short train with an Express Box Car, Baggage, Diner and Observation with a Light Mountain on the head end. The passengers are a luxury loving lot who just like to eat,drink and lounge about. The Express doesn't go anywhere, just around and around while the passengers gourge themselves then back to the Mortimer station. You should see the cars they arrive in, Cadillac, Jag, Porsche, and even a Citroen.
Well must rest up as I have more painting on the list with our bedroom next. I thought I was on holiday?

Thanks for the concerns about my wife. Its a auto/work-mans comp. claim, which makes it complicated in itself. She's not going to the doctor that her company told her. They were suppose to give her a list of six doctors, and never did. They also told her were to go, and that's illegal. The lawyer also told her she can see what doctor she wants to. Her company wasn't allowed to tell her were to go, or what doctor to see. Its been a big mess!!!!! A very BIG mess!!!! All this started when she went to see the family doctor (after the car wreck), and he gave her a month off. Her company didn't want her to have a month off, so they made it a workers comp. claim. to see if they can get her back to work quicker.
Well that's pretty much how this all started.
The good thing is, that they will paint the car Friday, and maybe get it back next week. It only took a month to fix .

Lee: Impressive castings, and interesting cost analysis! The basic materials cost of $80 is what is holding me back. I wish the stuff came in smaller quantities for less $s. That's some monster on the LS&W! Interesting that it immediately tried the lock again as soon as it was returned to jail! Jeff's Wolf spider is one thing, but train long self-training snakes - Yikes!

Mark: The deer in the snow could have been in Fort St. John several 100 miles north of you in B.C. yesterday or the day before! Our TV news showed scenes of 10 inches on the mail boxes! For the May 24th. weekend that is rare.
I've been waiting most of the early evening ,and now on into the night for a message to go out on a particular Customer Service website. I didn't save the text before hitting , and I can't "Select" to do so now that the "Sending your message" field is active. By opening another browser window and going to that site, I learn that they are doing maintenance and will be back momentarily! Did they say so when I hit ? That would be too much to ask, wouldn't it!

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY COME AGAIN SOME OTHER DAY !!!! Today is the 15th day of rain. A little here a little there; I know this is OREGON but we are not suppose to have this much RAIN.....58 deg. 15-20 mph SouthWest .Got half a dozen tomotoes from greenhouse. Just about 7in. around, pretty sweet too..Reading from back pages praying that all get better,, Gram;Wife;et all::::: MRR is giving me a back ache again(too much thinking and not enough dexterity in hands),back to painting after only one day of wiring: I was told to change between doing different choices that way you will not get bored.....Cannot get bored to much to do,between chasing gremlins and watching cats sleep in the middle of ocean inlet.............Grandson and girlfriend came and stayed for a few hours on thur. borrowed some of my air tools when they went back to Portland after I cooked dinner..Good time was had by all.. I am done in and plumb tired out...... Zoe one of those RBF would sure hit the spot and tide me over to dinner. I believe THAt would also help rehydrate me and provide all of those electricallitey things somebody said you need...... And I know it sure will taste a whole lot better than the bottled sweat they were suggesting as well!
Been hauling a couple of loads of wood from Henrieta, NY over to the Museum in Rush. We filled my truck and then loaded up a van belonging to another member. A little more than half of the wood from the tree is now at the museum with the first load the other guy hauled last week. THAT and a very large tree taken down in 3 large pieces from the area where the new siding is going in should be more than enough to heat the station at Industry next winter. I started to cut up the log out there, but the chain on the saw was a bit dull and was cutting slightly in circles. I went to change over to my last sharp chain, and found it was badly rusted. It is a chain without much left on the teeth anyway. So THAT one will go in the trash and I'll get a new chain and have the others sharpened tomorrow. Maybe this Saturday I will spend the day cutting the logs up for them.
Rob, IIRC you can use a plain brass washer to burnish the track. THAT is what I used and it seemed to w*rk just fine.
When I got home this afternoon the house was almost 90°. I put the Air conditioner into its window in the dining room?home office space and it sure feels good! I usually keep it at 76°, but when you walk in to a dryer space after w*rking outside in the sun............
Gotta go continue with THAT rehydrating thing.... Think I got down a couple quarts today. The Thermo-Meter has been hovering around 84°F most of the afternoon..... And I'm not adjusted to w*rking out in the sun yet.

Turns out the 6x6 Ranger fuel pump IS working, so next I'll check all the hoses for splits/leaks. Hope it's a hose, or I will soon be running out of things to check.
