Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have the breakfast buffet (I'll have to see what is on it I can still eat...) along with a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug this morning.

I'm still able to walk this morning, but just barely.  Today will be stay off the foot and try to keep it elevated as much as possible day.  Thank goodness for Advil!

Kieth I think it is me who is building the engine house.  Or at least I seem to remember I was building something like THAT.  Nothing to report on it really, the last photos of it were in last weekends WPF thread.  I am waiting on parts to arrive at the LHS.  Hopefully by the end of the week some should be in.

So do you have to count to 5 if you're doing Dave Brubeck's "Take Five", or do you count that as 3 and 2 (or vice versa).

LOL, good question Jim, I would conduct it in two with the first beat containing 3 sub-beats or micro beats and the second beat containing two as in: 1 2 3 4 5 or 1 2 3 1 2 (Accent or main beat is on the bold).  There is a wealth of Eastern European traditional music that is in 5 some would be conducted in 5 some in 2 with the change of the length of the beat depending on the pattern.  One of my favorite peices is "America" from West Side Story which alternates between 2 groups of 3 and 3 groups of 2 (6/8 followed by 3/4) with the eighth note being constant.  Rhythm is a fascinating study, one of my favorites.....

I may be able to navigate the stairs down to the basement after I manage to put my sneakers on.  So, have a great day, and I will catch you all in a bit!

Good Mornin', double cheeseburger basket and bucket of Cherry RC please 'n thank-ya...yep, on JIM's tab this mornin.

Speaking of...

JIM: There are weather radios (techinically "all-hazards") THAT you can get THAT can be programed for specific counties only. It's called S*A*M*E, don't remember what THAT stands for...but a county specific code is plugged in, dialed-in, etc. THAT way, the shrill warbling tones of doom only sound when YOUR county is in God's gun sight! Personally, I don't mind when the WR goes off for counties to the west...gives me a "heads-up" what might be coming.

When the...stuff...is really hitting the fan, we've got the TV on watching a weather clown do his "wall-to-wall coverage" show (with the sound down, too annoying otherwise, plus I just want to see the pretty colors on the radar), radio on WMT AM 600 (legendary for WX coverage), and my scanner on monitoring fire department spotters. Then, when I get paged-out for storm watch, the Wife can also hear our radio traffic. When it's looking especially grim...she'll get her cat into it's traveling box, and positioned where she can grab it and Rerun on the way to the hiding spot under the stairs in the basement. I keep drilling her on going there, so I'll know where to start looking after the house blows away...Shock

As for THAT hopper, with the "happy accident," what I did (had to think about it for awhile) was use Mountains Modelcraft Weathering Wash "Rusty Steel" with lots and lots of H2O based black and other munge colors washes. Then, I used Floquil Reefer White (for the mineral streaks), not mineral spirits. Apparently, the solvent-based Floquil reacted somehow with all the acrylic stuff... not sure of the chemistry involved...but I think it gave a neat effect!

I'm already behind on my day...behind on stuff for THAT...behind...in general. So, 'spose I'd best get at it, though I'm not really sure which "it" to tackle first!

Have a good, safe day everybody...

Good Morning, Zoe, I'll have the #2 special, scrambled, wheat toast and blackberry jam, glass of Ed's OJ, and a Rio Grande mug of coffee, please 'n' thank you. Dinner Hungry this morning, for no particular reason, I guess.

Edit: Well, Zoe, looks like the breakfast tab is mine, so start the total. Chow down, Diners, I see they have the breakfast buffet set up, too!

Barry, hope your doctor(s) get a plan of action for your heart arrhytmia thingee (soon)! Angel

Joe, your SW1500 looks good, and will look even better with some white (striping, logo, etc.) against the green; that'll make it snap and just pop out at you. I bet even Vincent will take a shine to it with the lettering, kinda remind him of, oh, some other RR's color/colour scheme...WhistlingThumbs Up Glad your life is giving you a (brief?) chance to catch your breath for now.

ZzzZzz Huh? Oh, yeah - whatever you said, Ray! Smile,Wink, & Grin So do you have to count to 5 if you're doing Dave Brubeck's "Take Five", or do you count that as 3 and 2 (or vice versa). Sounds like prime numbers or Fibonacci's sequence or other math stuff to me...Confused Nice shot of your other granddaughter there, by the way, and good to hear your toe was improving (maybe less walking might be in order?).

Chris - for what it's worth, I have found a number of times that some of the best results happen kinda by accident, as you were describing with the mineral spirits 'flow'. I'd say, go with it! Thumbs Up We'll reserve you a spot by Duke today so you can get caught up on the sleep you didn't get last night.

Ulrich, I'd agree that the capability of detaching the traversers will be good - both for future expansion, but also for ease of transporting when you move to this side of the pond. Yeah!! As for the cake, I'm sure between everybody there at your home (especially with you and Christian having lots of space to fit all that cake Wink), there will not be more than a few crumbs left. Dinner

Ah, Todd, good to hear that better sense prevailed on the burning vs. dumping question. Thumbs Up How much more do you have to dispose of at your mother's?

It appears our rain may hold off some today, and get up to 70 F (24 C) today. But then tonight we are predicted to have thunderboomers and such, just so we don't get spoiled, I suppose. The local TV station and a store are having a special price on weather radios (about $30, I think it is) and have been running TV spots and mentions during the news. The one thing I've heard about with weather radios is, they pick up watches/warnings from several counties away, so you get woke up by a watch for some county many miles away, where the storm wouldn't go by our area. Wish they had a dial or you could program WHICH counties you wanted to be woke up for... Banged Head Besides, I figure there's One bigger than the forecasters who's in charge, so my usual process when there're storms predicted in the area, has been to turn it over to Him and go to sleep. My My 2 cents...

I'll be at the window booth and see what the switching action is like out there this morning.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

  "Coffee please"

Hi all~  Well the winds have died down.. nothing like yesterday morning.  I had to laugh when I watched the news last night.. they "Warning.. Hind winds' are in effect"  I look out the window.. "No kidding~"

Der John,  I wanted to thank you again for your help.  I must admit.. that is one fine example of taped road.  The contours of the road are accented by the tape.. and it seems as if I'll probably go that route. Soon as I figure out where the roads go.  For the cobblestone.. I think the decals are fine.  But nice pic and I thank you.

Jim,  quote: "Keith, I like those decals, and that (half-hidden) platform (upper-left) looks interesting, too."

Jim funny thing about that platform.  I really liked it too.  But didnt' care to mention it.  One of the hobby stores I go to,  every Satureday morning... he goes through his store.. and finds things that aren't moving and have been on the shelf too long.  He places all his stuff on a table and cuts everything in half.  So half price on a station platform.. and I needed the stuff.. to make a few things.. (pedestrian pathway)(with terrace and trees) and the railing and stairs.. and all sorts of goodies.. for ten bucks.. "Ah I'll take one of those~.. and.. "

Its like I said.. for every minute you spend in the store.. figure out how much it costs.. when you leave.. mine works out to $2.00 for every minute I stay in the store.

I believe I need to catch up on some reading..

but I think it was Ray or Barry building a nice building.. I'd sure like to see an update on that building.

Ok.. time to see if Jeff.. or Todd or Robby put some nice pics up for this mornings reading.

As far as an update on my layout.. well its not much.. and with white you can't see much either.. but let me tell ya.. this takes time.  Working on the rocks.. glueing.. plastering.. waiting .. there is only so much you can do in a day.

100_0956.jpg picture by Blazzin55

But if you remember when.. I asked.. about the 'cart before the horse'?  Well I still ask that question.  I'm still wondering.  But right now, I'll finished the back rock fascia.. then go back to laying track for the trolley.. then finish up the 'look out point'  then cut sidewalks.. then paint the sidwalks.. place the sidewalks.. and the buildings go last.  I forgot to paint the rocks.. whew.. good thing I sat down and spelled out my thoughts... ok.. time to go.. coffee is kicking in... ah forget it..~ .. lol.. good thing I'm going slow. LOL

One other side note.  yeah yeah.. I'm sure some of you think I'm way out of line with the rock fascia. One... reason.. well it just has to be~  but.. and ..  Well here in CA, along the coast.. there are many such areas.. of 'hollowed out sandstone' in which have been turned into State Parks.  But this particular area.. (far left) shall be made into a  'theater in the round' .. yes an Amphitheater.. with the sandstone walls in the background.  There are similiar areas.. along the coast.. but this one is of Laguna beach.. where they have shows once a year.  They dress up like some famous painting..   they all hold still .. no one is moving.. then show you the real painting.. then the characters move around.. and sometimes they show you how the backdrops were made.. oh well .. I guess you have to be an artist or something.  But I want my city .. city life.. to be full of action.  Just one more way to take up valuable space I guess. .

Whew.. too much coffee.. woot!  gotta go now..~ bye.

That being said, apparently some of you younger guys have never grabbed 4th gear with your right foot to the floor of a 426 Hemi. Grabs as hard as most others do in 2nd. ( OK let's hear the 427 replies.)

I'll give you a 429CJ reply. I had a Mustang fastback with that in it. I laid rubber on all gears when I stuffed my foot into it. Mind that was without it being modified to the point of it pushing 600HP at about 4250rpm.-----it would've liked to have you sucked out the back window then----Whistling

Where is Jeff?

I suspect that his internet connection may have been knocked out---there was something of a nasty storm front thing that went through where he is and considering the issues he's been having of late with his internet I wouldn't be surprised that is what did it this time.

OTOH--his blackouts may have prompted his doctor to stuff him back into the hospital?Confused If so I hope it will be dealt with---

Good morning all. The sun is shining bright, the birds are chirping and the dumpster is, for all practical purposes, full. Yes, I can squeeze a few things in still, but it's full. And most important, Mom's house is also void of dumpster materiaYeah!!l. 2 years later but it's gone. Today I must go out and haul some stuff to Mom's appt and do her shopping and then, home.

Ulrich- That is wonderful someone picked up the tab. My hat is off to them. You are correct there are fine people here.

Keith- Your layout isn't prototypical huh, Well, I'd be the last person to say anything about THAT! With my collection of stuff and plans I'm beginning to wonder if anything on the ol' pike is gonna be prototypical.

Ray- Glad the tootsie is doing betterThumbs Up. Oops, spoke too soonThumbs Down.

Vincent- I would think the clear coating would work, but I just practice on some old, old Tyco's I've had since, ahem, before you were born to practice on. It's a good thing to do actually. You can pick them up cheap on the bay or at train shows, as long as you don't get a seller who considers them "vintage" and places them equal to the brass stuff, and if they do turn out, hey, a couple bucks in couplers and wheels and really you have a fairly decent car. (don't let some of the guys out in the yard know I said that. It'll ruin my rep man.)

VI-PER. It kills a lot of people that it has been around so long, is so basic and jerks the pants down of the competition. Most times they ignore it. Now we aren't talking about the one off cars that GM makes with corvette bodies that never are made except one or two so the magazines can run a front page " ‘Vette reclaims top spot!" Only to find out they will make..... One. But hey, they made it and that counts. That being said, apparently some of you younger guys have never grabbed 4th gear with your right foot to the floor of a 426 Hemi. Grabs as hard as most others do in 2nd. ( OK let's hear the 427 replies.)

Rob- Wife's layout is looking great.

Joe- Actually, from what I saw, I couldn't say it was brush painted. Very good job.

Lee- DOHBanged Head! Of course! I use tap water. I new that. I'll have to will get some distilled before I condemn that Badger paint. Some of your descriptions are what it does. Thanks for the reminder of what I should do all along...... but don'tWhistling.

Ulrich- Let's not refer to your new layout as a diorama. Let's say your layout is going to be built in "stages" and this is the first stage. Aaaand don't worry, we won't hold you responsible for the lack of cake. Under the circumstances, it's understandable. Express my well wishes when Christian arrives please.

Todays weather for Williamsville; Partly sunny, with a high near 65Big Smile. South wind between 9 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. It's here folks. Looking ahead a week, temps in the 50's and a couple shots to the lower 60's . Temps are a risin' (siiiiiigh )Approve

Well, this took longer than I'd thought. I got up about an hour and a half late this morning so I'm behind already. Gonna head on dowwn to the basement and add a couple of supports before I leave. Just a bit a day, even if it's just a few minutes. HEAR THAT PC???? JUST A LITTLE BIT A DAY!!!!

Have a Great Day!!!

Coffee in a  SOGGY SOUTHERN  mug, please.

Ordered some warm LED's last night, as all I have are cool and they didn't look right in the barn or farm house. With cool resembling some fluorescent lighting and warm like incandescent, I've decided to use a mixure of the two, depending on the particular building.

Added some dirt to the switchback last night and tried some alcohol followed by glue. Will see if it worked later today.

Busy day ahead, including glueing Tinytoon's shoes back on. Steady rain here.

Have a good day y'all.

Gooooooooood morning.  Its starting to warm up!!  Might even has some thunderstorms Friday.

Not much planned for me today.  Maybe get some layout time, and see if I can find the missing coupler box for the GP-30.  Later today the wife and I are taking your grandmother out for dinner.  She rather go to the casino, but money is kinda tight for us.  That's her hobby Mischief.

Hope everybody has a good morning.

 Good Afternoon Folks,

A dull and cold day - still no sign of Spring  - no Barry, not your cat! I will go to the train station in a couple of hours to pick up Christian and his girl friend. His mother is already nervous - we have not seen him since the turn of the year.

Chloe, I´ll have my afternoon coffee and a jam-filled bagel, please.

Barry - seems, as if we a sharing the same heart problems. My old ticker sometimes also has a hitch in his git-along and that ain´t no fun, so please take care, listen to the doc and do what he suggests you to do! (Yes, Mother!)

Ray - your are blessed with a cute granddaughter Thumbs Up

I am still fiddlin´ around with my track plan. Simplified it a little to cut down cost, without sacrificing "operation". Well, I know, it´ll be more like a diorama than a layout, but what the h..., it is back to model railroading!

Just to share my latest thoughts with you:

As you can see, I am pondering to go back to the solution with those two traversers. I have lengthened the left one, so I can have two coaches on it (+ loco on the siding). The right one just holds a loco (or a DMU). Both traverser will in any case be detachable, should I find a better, i.e. bigger place for my layout, I can easily add new track to it.

I hope the postman will bring a book about small layouts  UK style - I found a used one in the internet for 1 Euro + postage! That´ll give me some more ideas - hopefully.

And here is the bad news for you chowhounds - Petra still won´t let me swipe a sample from that cake, and I have no hopes that there will be leftovers!

Have a good day!

Good Morning All,

Just a regular to go again Zoe. 26F this morning but mid 50's are predicted for later today and mostly sunny as well Smile. Sebring went well with a class win in the vintage enduro with the Lotus 23 and an overall win in the historic enduro for the Audi plus a bunch of podiums in the Sprint races. Drivers were pleased and had a good time and that's more important.

W.rking on the Cooper and goint to NJ today to see my repainted trailer and settle up if it's ok. The second truck is on its' way back to the shop and the third is parked in the outfield at Sebring so we can drive it in Tuesday when we go back for the 12 hour weekend. busy busy. I got home from the shop and fell asleep during the womens basketball game (UConn won the Big East championship) so not much done last night. Gotta run - I'll try to catch up posts later.  J.R.

Good morning all,

Cleaning spray guns
: I found “dry paint solvent” works great for cleaning spray guns, if the cleaning requires more than soap and water.  It’s available at most LHS and comes in a steel can (about 6 OZ).  Some over the counter thinners evaporate so fast it may cause cracking or softening of the plastic parts.  So far I’ve had great success with this product.  Also if you’re getting splatter from your air brush chances are you did not mix the paint with distilled water.  If you are using tap water you get; chlorine, salt, and various electrolytes, and water.  Tap water can cause fisheyes, orange peel, and alligator finishes in your paint.  A gallon of distilled water will last a lifetime for most of us and it’s typically less than $2/gallon.

Jim the F3’s arrived last night.  These aren’t your father’s model trains, the detail is outstanding!  I hope to install couplers and pair the units this weekend.  I was invited to the basement LHS (BLHS) on Monday to run them in front of the group.

Good Eve........er, Mornin'! Zoe? I guess go ahead and set me up with a stack of pancakes, some butter, and a jug of maple-flavored corn syrup... I didn't realize it was after midnight! Got home from the Shueyville City Council meeting around 10:30, had a conversation with the Wife for awhile, noodled around getting caught up on e-mails...stopped in here and walla! It's almost 0100!!!

DER JOHN: Thanks for the roundhouse roof suggestions, I sure do appreciate 'em!  I like the idea of the wall and "newer" section...trouble is, I'm trying to stay as close to the real one as I can...within the limitations imposed by Atlas. I've got one section being used for coloration experimentation... we'll see what I come up with. Nice job (as always!) on the N-sane scale structures, by the way.

RAY: Reading your....I don't even know what to call THAT..."12/8 time,"

howmus
And don't forget the practice of hemiola which is patterns of 2s in a measure of 3.
"hemiola?" Sounds like a medical condition!!! "I'm sorry sir, but you have a nasty case of...HEMIOLA!"Shock

I think my brain is smoldering...

She sure is a cutie, and THAT's a real nice photo of you and Granddaughter No. 1!Thumbs Up

JOE: I think THAT SW-1500 looks pretty good from the pics you posted. Best be careful though, some "expert" will likely pounce all over you for *GASP!!!* brush painting your locomotive. IF THAT happens, might I suggest you offer them a place to go and an activity with which they may perform with themselves whilst in-transit?? Mischief

JIM: Thanks for the kind words about them hoppers, I'm happy with 'em. The IMCX car (rustiest of the group) was a "happy accident." I thought I botched the rusting and went to put "mineral" streaks down the sides. What exactly happened after THAT...I couldn't tell ya, but I sure like how it turned out! I see Atlas is coming out with the later red repaints on those shorty hoppers...might have to see about procuring one or two sometime.

For anyone interested, the Mid-Continent Region of the NMRA is having a convention, hosted by the East Iowa Division, in June in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Dates are June 10-13. The convention site is Kirkwood Community College, in the fairly new Continuing Education Division building. Back when I was in the Cont. Ed. Div., we were based out of a 30 year-old "temporary" building. I've got a 2-page .pdf from a buddy who is apparently spear-heading this project if anybody wants to take a look. No...I won't be attending. I'm not a NMRA member, and don't generally go to things like THAT anyways, even if/when I do have the bucks.  Seems they've got quite a few prototype tours with the UP, CRANDIC, and Iowa Northern. Don't remember if the CN/IC is involved too or not.

*sigh* Later today, I've GOT to get some stuff written for THAT... then this evening will be a 2-hour w**k session of the CCA school board as they hammer-out the 2010-2011 budget, followed by the regular monthly meeting a week early, during which they should approve said budget. There won't be any conflicts or arguments about the budget...it's mostly speculation based on presumed state funding and actual + estimated enrollment with a healthy dose of "what if the state cuts the budget on us again???" thrown-in for good measure. They hinted last month at the possible need to cut staff...I guess we'll find out tonight if THAT happens or not.

Never a dull moment in Newspaper Land...

Have a good day,

ChrisEight Ball

 Evenin' folks!

Chloe just a decafe for me and a hot chocolate for my little friend...

For those who may not know I am the old bearded railroader looking guy and the pretty girl is granddaughter #1.

JimRCGMO
And you know that you musicians can count to at least 6 (Irish tunes, anyone?)!

Well actually Jim, in 6/8 time there are really only 2 beats (Time perfect and prolation imperfect in the medieval style, or in modern interpretation there would be 2 macro beats with each divided into 3 micro beats)   So in 12/8 time there are really only 4 beats usually conducted even though there are 12 micro beats in each measure.  This gets more complex when you have polymetrical music such a J. S. Bach's Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring which is in 9/8 and 3/4 at the same time........ Many pieces during the Romantic period contain patterns of 2 and patternes of 3 simultaniously superimposed over each other.  And don't forget the practice of hemiola which is patterns of 2s in a measure of 3.... Or African polyrythyms which have overlaid groupings of 2s and 3s over differing lengths using different instruments to create a polyrhythmic and polymetric whole.  Have I confused anyone yet....? Whistling  Still us conductors really only have to learn to count to 4 and sometimes count to 4 and 3 or 5 at the same time.......  Make sense?  BTW did you know that in four measures of 4/4 time using just quarter notes, two eighth notes, 4 sixteenth notes, or a quarter rest, for each beat, you can create 4,294,967,296 different rhythms?  I believe it is 4 to the 16th. power......................................  If you were to write out 1000 of them a day, it you would have them all writen down about 11,800 years from now.  Remember THAT is for the first 4 measures of 4/4 time restricted to only a few of the possibilities.  I don't know, my brain just w*rks THAT way at times.Smile,Wink, & Grin

OK I'll be quiet.

The toe has been better all day until tonight.  Now the whole foot is aching.  Did way too much walking today on it.  Stood round at the club tonight for about an hour which didn't help either.

Hope you all have a great night!

Evening all.

Wow, I haven't been in here in AGES! I've been plagued with DAILY practice, deadlines for a HUGE chemistry paper, and EPIC (no pun intended) computer failure.
BUT, the chem paper is due tomorrow, and I have it done, sent in to Turn It In, and need to hand in my hard copy tomorrow. I'm SO glad THAT's done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Practice has been going fine. Now, I'm beginning to be happier that I'm playing. We'll see more on THAT once the season progresses.

Over the weekend, I also got my SW1500 painted into blue and green. I posted the pix in WPF, but my computer died (AGAIN!!!!!!!!!) and I was too tired and lazy to start it back up and come and post in here. So I'll just give a link: http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/t/170366.aspx?PageIndex=3

Well I gotta go, but since I don't have to do my paper tomorrow night (WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), even though I have practice till 5, I should be able to come in for a bit. Catching up- doubt it. 15 pages is A LOT.

Night!

EDIT: Looks like I'm buying late night snacks and breakfast.

Good Evening

Well---had my doctor's appointment. He needs more tests done and has referred me to a cardiologist who specializes in arrythmias. My heart seems to want to go into some form of ventricular tachycardia that kind of mucks up the regularity here. Oh---he found an odd thing. These episodes seem to occur with no discernable symptoms even though the episodes go on for a while. With my heart the way it is he's surprised I'm functioning as well as I am-----must be all the exercise and stuff I get from up/down stairclimbing at the office and here and etc, PP, so on and so forth ad infinitum------ Whistling Supposed to see this fellow next week-----

Question----where is Jeff??[%-)

Off to do some stuff with 'Spring'----he is demanding his playtimeWhistling

Chloe, I'll just have some coffee for now---Smile

Okay, back again, Chloe, sorry for mistaking you for Zoe earlier. That's what I get for sitting at the counter too long before I get around to having (late) lunch...Sigh I'll have a cup of hot chocolate, please.

Jerry, what've you been up to on your RR lately?

DerJohn, thanks for the memory jog - I think I recalled most of the lyrics (except for a couple of the next to last verse's, maybe...).

Ulrich, it's great to hear that you got your MR subscription renewed - great surprise, eh?Cool

Rob, thanks for posting the photos of your wife's layout - looks like you've been productive there. Thumbs Up I think Preiser might have a figure set like she asked for...Whistling

Have been developing a little database of my MRR inventory for the iP touch (new toy I'd mentioned earlier), so that if I'm at a train show, I can check and see "Do I have that boxcar yet?" Beats what I currently have to track that with (lots o'paper pages in a planner to look through). But maybe I'd rather get some wiring done on the layout so I can run the train cars I already have...Whistling

I'll be, uh,... thinking at the RC for a while. Prayers for those in need of healing, comfort and rest.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Jim, we were almost to the north Augusta DMV when we realized we forgot my birth certificate and social security card.

Vincent, yeah, but still, it'd harken back to the muscle car era. too bad there ain't any more Dodge Darts in production.

Rob, my parents aren't big fans of Dodge pick-ups because the one they had screwed them over big time (apparently it couldn't pull their boat out of the water, but my dad's mustang could)

Hello everyone!

Ulrich, So glad that someone renewed for you!  I'm thankful for the person who did that for you!  They shall be blessed for their kindness and selflessness (if that's even a word)!

Packer, how about a shot of that "Primer" car... if it's what I think it looks like, you might be able to use it as a "Storage" container???  I have seen a few scattered around Transit that look about like someone painted it with primer paint!

Has anyone sent me a PM today?  I got an email from here saying I had a new message, but when I logged in, there wasn't anything here... Hmmm.

Anyway, I will attempt to get the list of equipment I have done tomorrow, and post it here.

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

Good Morning, Zoe, I'll have a bowl of those little O's with some strawberries on top, glass of milk and another of Ed's OJ, and a Santa Fe mug of coffee, please. Thank you.Smile

Chris, your tax thing sounds sorta like mine - I got a refund on federal, but the glorious state of Missouri says I owe them some. (Sheesh...!) At least you can get some of the bank's foobie covered by your federal refund. Hey, I like your hoppers that you posted on the wall here - suitably grimy and rusty! Yeah!! Oh, on the 'police math' question, I would guess that math skills are not a critical skill that's needed a lot (well, other than the ability to read the LCD readouts on radar equipment...Whistling). It's like in my field, you might be surprised at the spelling of some of my co-workers. (Me, I was an art major, and until a short bit before I graduated on my B.S. Ed., an English major, too. But I guess that's like cross-training, maybe? Smile,Wink, & Grin)

Todd, are you sure your wife didn't follow you out to your Mom's to make sure that in the emotion of the moment, you didn't burn more than you were supposed to burn? (Just kiddin'...Wink)

Aztec, glad to hear that you got to see your newest grandnephew Preston, and it sounds like you enjoyed the heck out of him! Thumbs Up Any photos yet?

Sawyer, I think I was in my senior year before I got my driver's license. The nearest bureau we had to go to was several miles away, and it seemed that when we were there, I didn't have my copy of my birth certificate with me, or if I had it with me, we weren't going that way. One of those Banged Head things for a while. Hopefully, getting your license will not take as long as mine did!

Looks like some of you had productive weekends (at least on the HD lists...). I went to MRR club last night and it looks like the rest of the roadtop around the intermodal yard has been 'blacktopped' (those who saw the previously posted pics probably recall the patch of road leading to the I-M yard was partly 'blacktopped'), and the depot area near the city/town has a cork underlay - which when it was painted black, looks a lot like blacktop paving, with the variation, little indentations and such that real blacktop has! Also, I got these cute little stalls, which I figure will do fine for those roadside vegetable/fruit stands that you see in the spring.

Speaking of spring, it's been drizzly today in Cape G., one of those grey days that Barry is sooooo fond of. Whistling Supposed to reach 57 F (14 C) today, and only a couple of degrees away from that currently, so it could be much worse in the weather department.

Jeff - ROTFL about your coffee descriptions! Laugh I think my preference is between those two, but I'm sure a couple of my co-workers would love your foot doctor's coffee. Evil As for your email guy, I figure that's what the delete key is for in email programs. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Lee, pamper Dorothy (as much as she'll let you, or as much time as you have to do that). Congrats on the (arriving soon on a track near you...) F3.

Ulrich, you have a great CFO there, and practice that patience until that gorgeous loco arrives. Big Smile  Petra probably isn't letting you 'sample' the cake, because she knows there might not be any left for Christian at all! Dinner

Todd - great w**k on Toddland; give my compliments to the crew there, including the crew chief! Thumbs Up

Keith, I like those decals, and that (half-hidden) platform (upper-left) looks interesting, too.Smile

Ray(NY), besides the (Mac) Mail program's Bounce button, Gmail has filters, and I'm sure there are likely filters on most email providers where you can just set up THAT person's emails to just invisibly go to the trashcan without ever having to see them (!). Smile And you know that you musicians can count to at least 6 (Irish tunes, anyone?)! Emily looks very neat and (comparatively) clean with her cake there - for my grandson's first birthday, he had his cake all over him, the highchair tray, and some onto the floor, too! Smile,Wink, & Grin

Shock PAUL! - You said the 'w' word? Ohmigosh! Hey, hope you get some train time in while it's wet and muddy down your way.

Robby, I like that BN hopper and your w**k on it. (Probably got Vincent drooling on his keyboard with that) That kind of weathering job would fit for my layout, I think. Will save the photo for reference later...

Dang, Vincent - just looking at THAT burger/pizza/whatever-it-is, about raised my cholesterol 50 points! A man could nap as long as Duke, after eating THAT. Wow!!Sam, you give me a different perspective with your w**king hours - I used to think my hours were bad when I had to be at the post office by 5:30 a.m....Shock

Barry, I was sorry to read about Officer Pham's death - he was pretty young, and my condolences to his wife and children.

OzRay, on the video, it's amazing Shock how close those tracks come to each other when they pass. Wow!! I'd once considered moving 'down under', but I couldn't quite picture celebrating Christmas in the summertime (about like Christmas in California...). I'm kinda used to the sn*w and all around that time...Oops

(Past) Time for NCIS, so I'll be getting home. Will try to get back in after that.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Blackbeans with chicken, please.

****Sawyer & Vincent, if you're talking stock street legal (actual pick-up trucks), top honors (IMO) still goes to the Dodge Ram SRT-10.

Robby, I was thinning it with water. But a dirty gun might be the issue. The clear plastic tube that draws paint up is pretty nasty looking. I don't know if I could clean them out without wrecking them since they are plastic. I might be able to find a replacement for it at a hardware store.

Sawyer, True, but it wouldn't have been close at all. I don't know dodge has anything that could compete with a F430 or Z06. Ford has the GT, and the 2012 mustang GT (or the 2012 boss mustang) may be in that category.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Vincent......Your mixture is probably off, or your gun is dirty.  Clean your air-brush gun real good, and maybe the specks will go away.  If that doesn't work, it might be the mixture of your paint.  Enamel is a pain to remove.  You will have to use something like paint thinner to remove it, and then it turns to a BIG mess!!!  Especially if you already have sprayed the car.   It does come out good if you can get it to spray good.  For a even coat, I use a pin/pencil holder.  Something that you would find in a office.  It spins in place, so I can move the car around without touching it.  I just use enamel and some paint thinner.  Sometimes it comes out spotty, but usually its due to a dirty gun.

Vincent, if that F430 had been a Dodge it would've been perfect!

John, yeah man.

well, it's rugby practice tonight. fortunately there is no game this week so we should be able to really prepare for Irmo on the 19th.

Afternoon ya'll

Got back from running a few errands. On the way back something intresting happened when I was driving back home. A Ferrari F430 and a Corvette Z06 pulled up along side (I was in the middle lane) and the drivers start looking my way like they want to race me (I don't street race). Talk about picking on the little guy (still stuck with a 4-banger). Although those 2 going after each other might be intresting.

Robby, I probably should have mentioned it earlier, but I was trying to get a fade with those cars using the airbrush (I'm pretty comfortable with the dullcote and powders). I was using model master light gray acrylic and is was coming out kind of spotty (paint specks as opposed to a gradual color change). Does the enamel white come out better than the acrylic stuff?

Good afternoon.  Some geese flew over today,  is that a good sign or what!!!!!  Come one spring!!!

Went to a friends house this morning.  See how far he's gotten on his layout.  Well.....he's gotten pretty far.  Its something about seeing someones layout makes you think what you could have done better to your layout Whistling.

Vincent........Not sure if that will work.  You might wanna have a few practice cars.  Try different things on them, and respray them back to the primer color.  Once you feel comfortable, try a new car.  If you spray a car with dullcote, flat clear spray, etc......Its kinda hard to get the powder off.  It kinda "bites" to the spray.  Believe me, I know.

Strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, toned down a bit with half & half, please.

***Johnboy, interesting way to transport a loco. Cool pic!

***Der, fine, clean work as usual there. Nice job!

Couple pics to share from the wife's (HO) layout. Roughed in a switchback from the church to the mini apple orchard. My wife wondered if there is an Adam & Eve among the parishioners?Whistling Still have to add a hint of color to the rocks and some weeds/shrubs, At least there is progress.

Busy day of non-MRR'ing stuff here today.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob
