Jeff, so you’ll have the pump for a few more weeks?

Robby, the incentive or stimulus plan was to keep more money in the taxpayers pay check hoping it would cause you to spend more money on MRR supplies.   Where Bush gave you a lump sum check to run out and buy a pair of BL2s or a 4-8-8-4, the Obama plan was to give it to you a little at a time. So you would make many trips to the LHS for smaller purchases.

Ok now really with my retirement check I had to have extra money pulled out every month because if you make less than $50,000 (I think) they reduce the amount withheld for FedTax.  It’s almost the same idea as tax withholding on a part time job.

Or FedEx really messed up.

Vincent,   If you check and the current TPS is no good, then I'd see if the 2.3 fits as that worked fine before. There is an adjustable one out there but we're not sure it fits the throttle body you are now using. J.R.

 Good Afternoon Folks,

back from the GULAG - only 8 more days to go! Tomorrow I´ll have to do some w´rk, helping a friend with his businesses´ annual tax report. Earns me some money - well, maybe I can dedicate some of it to the funding of my railroad project ... Whistling  Friday is a regular day off - Petra and I will jointly make some goodies for us to enjoy over the weekend Dinner

Made it home just before the sn*w is starting to hit us. Temperatures have gone up a bit - it is now -6 C - but now that white stuff is being dumped on us. Glad I don´t have to go anywhere today.

Flo, nothing to eat, just had a late lunch/early dinner thing, so will you please make it a coffee in my LKAB mug and a Calvados out of Vinnie´s hidden bottle? I´ll stay here at the RC, if there is no objection.

Grayfox - can you turn an ignorant into an adept? What does KA1VEI  "73" mean? Took me a long time to find out what a RBF is (TBDanny - your not the only one not to know), or what the meaning behind "LoL" is, but there are still some abbreviations which escape my attempt of deciphering them.Probably need to get a dictionary... Good Morning. How about some fried mush and Karo syrup please. Yup coffee too thank you.

Don't have a clue what's up for today. Hopefully, well, I won't say that I won't say it.

Ulrich- Weeell. You never said you need stuff for the library, er, I mean the bathroom. That's understandable and totally acceptable to spend layout possible money on the bathroom. Comfort my man, it's all about the comfort of the room. Makes for a great day. Say, maybe you could run for office. Sounds like they'll soon have everybody in Germany in some political office before long.

Ray- Gee I don't know. I like the bottom one because it's got the train on the bridge also. But I like the top without the train because it shows more of the bridge. Plus I can't decide if the train on the bridge in the lower makes the shot too busy, or if it's me because I like to see more background. But the top looks like it could use a train up there. Maybe. Oh I don't know. OK just read Fip and Chris' comments. It's not just me. Buut, I do like the bottom. But I like your layout scenery work also. If I HAD to pick, gee. Maybe, yeah I guess #1. No, yah, 1. OH WAIT! After all that I seee you've posted two more. Hm, now this pair is easier for me for some reason, and I don't know why. I'd definitely say the first photo appeals to me more. Oh, I see you've already decided. Gee take a snooze around here and you miss all the fun. Oh well, at least I picked the one you did so I can now make up my own version of what happened.Laugh

Dick- Though I haven't a bit of proof other than what's bouncing around in the old noggin' I think, I would agree with you. Not counting the occasional Govt money hand outs in the form of loans, grants for certain projects etc they may have received. Though this doesn't answer your question of a definitive answer, you aren't alone. However with my track record, this doesn't look good for your side.

Welp, I best get a move on. Just got a call someone is having trouble putting a rotor (ignition) on a Chevy truckConfused. (says as I'm putting on red cap) besides, I'm having trouble believing Tom isn't a beach combing tanned surfer dude. I thought all Californian's were that way.

Have a Great Day!!!

Todd - not a bad idea, running for an office. I do have some problems with that, though:

  • My mom taught me always to tell the truth and, finally,
  • I will be overqualified for such a job

Lee.......You are right.  I just got a email and I would have to make at least $264 a day to get federal taken out.  I never knew that.  Dunce  I guess I might wanna change my $5 per check to something higher.  I guess the wife and I will see.

Good afternoon Ulrich, closer to evening for you. KA1VEI is my Amateur Radio call sign, "73" means "best regards". That is a good question you asked, and I should have explained it previously because FLIP asked the same question.

TODD: According to answers that I am receiving on the Trains forum, the Fed does NOT subsidize Freight Railroads such as CSX, UP, etc. I really didn't think so, but these two guys were pretty adament about it.

Howdy!

Just popping in to say hi and grab a quick lunch.  I have been hekpling my son and one of his friends load the moving truck.  Mostly I have been holding the door, keeping the dog from getting loose, and giving expert advise on moving......  I told him he can avoid a lot of moving mistakes if he will listen to me as I know all the common mistakes having already made them in most of my many moves over the years......Whistling

Their poor beagle, Petey is beside himself as they move stuff out of the house.  Art reminded me of the sad looks we got during one of our moves back 258 or so years ago from our dog Chuckie.  We finally figured out that he was terrified THAT we were going to leave him.  We said to him, "You want to go"?  He started to jump up and down wagging his tail and ran over to one of the cars.  The rest of the trips we made, we just took him along.  he was happy as a dog can be.....

BTW, thanks again on your input on the photos.  You have been a very big help!  I'll let you in a few weeks how I made out.

Gotta run!  Have to do some quick shopping nd get back over to Art's house!

Robby, I would guess $100 to $150 each month.  Ask your tax guru if that would be enough or not.

Good afternoon. It's 62 and cloudy. The high will be 71 and it will be partly cloudy.

I wasn't feeling well this morning due to a bad blood sugar crash last night. Woke up feeling disoriented and dizzy. Fortunately that's past. Had my usual Wednesday visit with the Home Health nurse. Other than that, nothing's going on today other than my usual day-to-day activities.

Well, I have the next two days off... Chloe, may I please have a RBF, with a Cheeseburger Deluxe (extra jalapenos please) and a side of curly season fries?  Thank you...  I had an interesting day today, I had to do low level platform stops at a few stations this morning, and then on the return trip to NY I had two roadforemen get on at Newark Penn Station, and ride into NY Penn on the headend... [EDIT: Rant removed for sake of job...]  here's a picture of SOME of the switches, not even half of the total, in New York Penn Station, coming from New Jersey...

Anyway, I'll get off the SoapBox and be at the RC studying my trackplan and my NORAC Rules Book!

Jeff- I understood completely, ironically enough! I quite often have what I deem to be the “correct” statement in my head, but when I say it out loud, it gets all discombobulated… Oh well… BTW, love the graffiti on the boxcar!

Ray- I prefer the second shot… the letters on the tender of the upper engine is keenly displayed!!! Right On!

Darned, you went and got new photo’s, I prefer the upper of the second set… the background foliage seems better “exposed” than the other one is…

Vincent- GO FO THE PROPPER V8!!!! To quote Tim Allen “ Needs MORE POWER!!! Arh! Arh! Arh! arh!!!”

Ulrich- I had a hard time figuring out ROFLMAO, a while back, until someone did it to me when I explained the situation… Rolling On Floor Laughing My A** Off

You can find those abbreviations in the Radio Amateurs License Manual. The 10 codes are very popular with CB operators.

Might be right in there with "more tea vicker"?

***Wonder how a hydrofoil would work over muddy pastures?

Rob, maybe Flip could send you one of those swamp boats - ah, I see Flip beat me to it, Airboats! I hear they use them in Florida...Smile,Wink, & Grin Great to hear about your progress and the doctor's visit.

Careful, DIners, it sounds like Todd might've got himself 'tangue-tongled'...Oops Oh, wait, that's how he usually is!Smile,Wink, & Grin

And I was rudely awakened yesterday morning by some ungodly-loud sound...And WHO let PC get his hands on THAT bullhorn, anyway? Grumpy

Ray, how's your roof w**k coming along? As for your two B-T-N photos (first set), I like the first one (with the upper track unoccupied). Thumbs Up (Probably the photographer/art major in me likes it better...) I think I'd agree with Johnboy, that I might like the bottom shot, but cropped further out with some more room for the locos to 'breathe'. On your second set, I like the first/top one - LOVE Shays!!Tongue (Pant, pant, hubba, hubba, ohyeah!)

Jeff, good to hear that you're close to ditching the vaccuum (well, once you get the other spot taken care of), and that the doctor took out another part of your 'hardware'. Yeah!!

Ulrich, from what you were saying about all the political types there, it sounds as though - if you live on a city block - at least one of your neighbors is on some legislature or governmental board! ShockSmile,Wink, & Grin

Chris, after reading your comments and Ulrich's about politicians, you guys reminded me of a (paraphrased) question (& answer):

Q: What do you call a hundred politicians at the bottom of the Mississippi River (or ocean...)?

A: A nice start!

Hey, Chris? - I'm beginning to think Rerun is one VERY smart dog! Yeah!!Thumbs Up... Whistling Oh, hey, you forgot that corollary of track planning: "The space allotted for a track plan ALWAYS appears larger and more spacious than it turns out to be, once you begin construction." (Kinda like that rear view mirror thing on cars...)

"SurferTom", WHAT? You're NOT up to the challenge of surfing the Sacramento River? Goodness, man, where's your spirit of adventure, after all? Laugh Good to hear that you were able to, uh.., help your neighbor in his "time of need". Smile,Wink, & Grin I suspect that if our 'friend-with-can-and-matches' continues, he will be escorted to the community's borders and told (more or less) where he can go with same. Some aren't quite as quick on understanding what's acceptable vs. not. For your choir, you could put all the tenors' chairs in a walk-in cooler overnight before your practices. Think that'd help them sing it their part better? (And how does choir-herding compare to cat-herding?)

Sam, all those turnouts look like a LOT of fun - NOT!

Barry, I guess I probably shouldn't tell you that I just got TurboTax and have my federal return filed (Missouri will wait until closer, as I actually owe them a little bit...), eh? Whistling

Oh, for Ulrich's "Slanglish dictionary" (or others' benefit/amusement), here are a few 'shorthand' terms I have used from time to time:

FWIW = For What It's Worth (like My 2 cents of maybe not even that, usually in reference to my opinion about something)

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary  (see explanation of FWIW above)

NTBCW = Not To Be Confused With (as in, "These are my layout plans, NTBCW how my layout is actually turning out, now that I have started building it.")

Oh, I spotted one that Dick used:      SR = Strawberry-Rhubarb  (pie flavor)

Rainy tonight (so far), supposed to change over tonight/tomorrow to sn*w (or is that sleet, or 'sneet'?). I heard we have a winter storm watch through about Saturday around this part of Missouri. But nothing compared to Ulrich's or Barry's or Johnboy's kind of cold weather. Oops

After w**k today, I stopped by the LHS owner's place and picked up my order (3 Accurail D&RGW 41' gondolas, some board & batten sheets, some Rix guardrails for my layout's roads, one of those cute battery-operated little paint mixers, and something else that escapes my mind for now). Will be heading home with my loot, after I finish my coffee. I'll be at the RC for now.

Blessings and Prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Q: What do you call a hundred politicians at the bottom of the Mississippi River (or ocean...)?

A: A nice start!

I thought the EPA had laws against the dumping of TOXIC WASTE into rivers and streams...Whistling THAT and I rather suspect the poly-tick-ians would be...hard to keep down. I see them bobbing back to the surface like so many fish heads in a toilet bowl.Mischief

ROB: Happy birthday tomorrow to Mrs. ROB.

ROBBY P: OK on finding the BUG stash, sometime when you get the time, let me know what you're looking to get rid of; I'll see what I can do to take some of THAT "junk" off your hands. With the taxes, Mr. Boss has some IRS tax table thing he looks at to determine how much of my wages to pull out for the govt. With irregularly irregular hours, he said it has something to do with averaging the hours over some time period...Confused I guess once I get my W-2 and Loving Wife does the taxes...we'll see how good (or bad) a job he did.

RAY: Rerun did the same thing the beagle did when we moved to Clarence. The more we packed stuff up, the more worried he got. ANY "disturbance in the force" to a dog is major. On moving day, he rode in the wife's BUG (with some misc. crap THAT just wouldn't fit anywhere else). He was focused like a guided missile on the big yellow truck ahead (the rental P*O*S THAT I was piloting). Once at the new house, he was quickly escorted upstairs to what has since become "his" room. He was able to observe the load-in. Actually...I think he was supervising us!

SAM: I caught a glimpse of your...rant...probably a good thing you pulled it. Sounds like you're getting the hang of things though, despite the "distractions." Too bad you couldn't point to a sign like the buses have saying "do not talk to the driver (engineer, of course, in your case)!"

I'm gonna yield the floor, grab a double cheeeeeeeeeeese burger basket, sit me down at the RC and see who makes it in this evening.

Sam,

Have you considered the possibility that what seemed to be distractions were actually a method to see how well you could cope. In the past, I have been through similar training situations in the military, and later in my career as a fire fighter/EMT. The purpose was always to add additional pressures to basic activities and see how well the individual adjusts to it. If that was the case, it sounds like you handled the situation in satisfactory manner. Good luck going forward.

I did spend quite a bit of the time, ah, supervising.  Yep that's what it's called.  I can give out some pretty good information on moving disasters as My family and I moved 6 times in the 21 years I was married.  They didn't close on the house today like they were supposed to, but got permission to move in today (which was critical to getting everything done).  Not only do they have to move all their belongings, but tomorrow we have to finish up a bunch of odds and ends at the old house, and then drive over to his MIL's house as she has sold her house and is moving into a basemant "apartment" in the new house.  MIL lives in a tiny 'National Home'.  800 sq. feet total area.  Her new living room downstairs is bigger than that!  Only drawback is she will have to use the bath at the top of the stairs as there is not one in the basement area.  Compared to what they all had this new house is huge!  And it is a ranch.  They have 2.3 acres of yard and a new swimming pool.

I am going to put my entry in the photo contest before I head for bed.  Thank you for all your comments and help!  It will be the top photo in the second set.  It seemed to be the big favorite and I like that it shows the flat cars the best.

Rerun did the same thing the beagle did when we moved to Clarence.

They sure do know when something is going on.  Old Chuckie having moved 5 times in his life with us sure knew what packing meant.  Kinda like my cats understand what is going to happen when I pack a suitcase or my backpack.......  Manet does everything he can to prevent me from leaving.  He usually prks himself in the suitcase and refuses to let me pack...

OK!  I'm off to crawl to bed for the night.  may not get back in untill late tomorrow night.  have a good one!

Good evening. SRP and an RBF please.

Dick- I didn't think there was any fed help, but couldn't swear to it. I know some people who are like that. They get an idea or are told something and take it for gospel and there is nothing that can change their mind, including facts. By the way, did you know, according to this one guy, that New York is TWO hours ahead of central Illinois with a silent "s" ? You see Eastern time is only 1 hour ahead, but apparently New York state is in a different time zone. It runs on the west edge of the state. He couldn't remember what it was called but it is two hours ahead of "us". He knows this because he used to drive a truck out there and back. How could we argue with someone who's been there?

Sam- There's some "s" ‘s in there. Tell them they'll have to change that. Ya know, tcwright might be right. (he he. Rhymes)

Jim- Tongue Tangled? Me? Why whatever gave you the idea that ever happens to me?WhistlingLaugh

Chris- Don't feel alone. When I got to knock the wall down in the basement to expand the empire, I thought I had enough room for the layout to end all layouts. Now, I don't have enough room it seems to barely put in one more stop.

Had a bit of excitement today. As I was preparing to leave to work on a truck this morning, I let the baby out. (Missy the dog). She was out for a bit and that didn't seem odd. Then the doorbell rang and I went to the door, opened it and the lady across the street was standing there on the front porch with a leash in her hand and at the end of the leash was Missy. I opened the door, the dog came inside turned around and sat down as if to say "howdy, I'm home" She said she was out front when the furnace guy showed up and here came Missy across the street and said to him, "that's our neighbors dog. She's NEVER out" She called for her, she came, she got a leash, (she also has a dog) and hooked her up and she said Missy just walked right back across the street like she was thinking "oh goody, we're going home. Brenda just came in and has figured out what happened with the catch of which I won't bore you any more with. I explained to Missy that we kept something from her that happened a couple of days ago. The neighbor on the corners dog got out and across to the field, and never made it home. On the way back across the street she ran in front of a truck and well, she's in heaven now. Sad. And how it would be terrible if that happened because mommy and I would feel so sad and that she wouldn't be getting anymore treats. Missy looked at me like "Hey, now that you mention it, where's my treat for going outside". Dumb dog.

Good evening,

TODD: I've had "discussions" like THAT with Rerun... funny thing, he looks at you when you're talking to him...not a vacant "something is making noise" kinda stare...but real concentration! Of course, he has very selective hearing. His version of your chat would probably go something like: "blah blah blah Mommy and I blah blah blah treats." By the way, we figure Rerun's vocabulary to be around 300 words/phrases. An amazing dog... Glad Missy made it home safe and sound! You can tell her Rerun would be upset too if anything happened to her (he seems quite taken with the furry lady from Illinoisssss).

Tom (TCWRIGHT): Holy scenario-based education Batman! I'd completely forgotten about THAT training and evaluation method! Dunce Once in awhile, in my EMT-B instructor days, during practical scenarios, I'd have a student play the hysterical family member, bystander, co-worker, etc. Just a little added mental processing for the would-be EMT's to deal with as well as the patient. And yes...sounds like SAM did just fineThumbs Up

BARRY: I've got a bottle of Southern Comfort, which I've been told, is effective in warding off all maner of illness, and/or all other manner of physical and mental maladies. It's stashed under the RC...Whistling

Hmmmmm, might have to sneak a swig, seems Vinnie and the girls have stepped away for a moment...

Chamomile tea, please.

***Todd, sounds like a fortunate reminder there with Missy. We lost our first Italian Greyhound to the road (many years ago) and he was still wearing a cast from a broken leg do to running into a moving horse hoof at the time. Twas pitiful and heart breaking, never to be repeated. Careful with Missy there.

***Mark, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY".

No MRR'ing progress to report on yet. Keep wanting to do stuff but not enough "git up and go" still. Y'all have a great day.

Good morning all,

Mark, happy birthday!

I put my Heljan Roundhouse up for sale last night and sent emails out for those who might know someone that is interested.  I pick up the new roundhouse kit tomorrow afternoon.  I ordered the Walther’s 6 bay round house and matching machine shop.  The Heljan doesn’t have a floor in it and when I built it the roof doesn’t open up.  I plan to detail the inside of the new kits and add lighting.  I might print walls for the inside.

Snow, blowing snow, and ice this morning with a high temp of 18F or -6C.  Winds are blowing off the lake at about 20KTS plus.  Would have been a great day to hide in the train room.

Good Morning. How about a caramel roll and a cuppa black. Thanks

It's cold againGrumpy. Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 17. Wind chill values between zero and 6. North northwest wind between 8 and 13 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. I'm thinking like Lee. Would be a great day to spend in the train room.

Mark- Happy B-Day and glad to see you're not aging.Laugh

Chris- Amazing isn't it the way the dogs hang on every word. But I think your idea of what they hear is preeeeetty accurate. She just listens hoping to hear a few "key" words. Mainly, walk, ride, or treat I'd bet.

Rob- I have also lost a few dogs myself, and yes it is heartbreaking. You try not to get attached to the animal, after all it is just an animal, but it always happens. THAT was the main reason I didn't want to get another one. I was outruled. Hey, Speaking of outruled, did I see where it's your wifes Birthday today also? If so, please wish her a Happy B-Day.

As for the "how did Missy get loose" mystery that I told you I wouldn't bore you with, I've decided to bore you anyway. The clasp on the tether freezes in the winter, naturally. Brenda got tired of standing in the cold holding the clasp to thaw. We found a double clasp while cleaning Mom's house and said this is the ticket. Turns out the clasp has larger thumb pulls and the spring is weaker than that of the one on the tether. Didn't think this would be an issue. In fact, really didn't take notice of it until now. When she scratches, or even through a bit or rough housing including finding that ever fun stick in the yard and flipping it in the air to chase and attack, the latch can be accidentally opened. I will get a different type clasp. One of those spring snap jobs. Don't know what they're called, but I know what they look like.

Have a Great Day!!!
