Ok Sawyer - you now are officially certifiable. Just remember the best defense is a good offense.

thank you very much, haha :D very wise words there; and defense wins championships.

Ahah, we're at our new location--and I FOUND it!

Greetings from AgainStormyCal.  I just saw one of the neighborhood dogs go floating down the street on a raft with a sign that says: "TELL MY OWNER I'LL BE BACK AS SOON AS I FIND LAND!"

Um.  Gonna be one of THOSE weeks. Tongue  Supposed to last through Wednesday, then they're FINALLY offering us some break in these storms.  Can't get Spooky or Uff-Dah out of the windows, they keep saying, "Wow, Daddy, isn't this COOL?"

My next cat is going to be an Abyssinian, I swear!  I mean, they're from the SUDAN in Africa.  Where it's DRY!

My sweet little Mallet is still sitting on the kitchen table in that awful paint-job.  She's sighing.  "I'm supposed to look a lot PRETTIER than this, Dad."

It will come to pass.  I SWEAR it.  Whistling

Ulrich:  That Cherry Torte has me drooling.  I almost said, "What, no Schwartzwald Kirshetorte?" then I remembered:  "Idiot, he's not from BAVARIA, LOL!"   Little problem I have, my family's from that area and I think EVERYONE is.  Wink   It looks absolutely mouth-watering.

Sawyer:  I keep remembering a student of mine from two years ago who was on our Jesuit Rugby team.  GREAT guy, fabulous student.  He would come into my office and give me graphic descriptions of the scrimmages.  I looked at him once and said, "Are you sure you can SURVIVE this?"  He'd just grin.  "Hey, Doc, it's FUN!"   Got an e-mail from him last week.  He got accepted on the Rugby team at Boston College (which I understand is just KILLER!).   I hope the next time I see him that he has his nose (and certain other parts of his body) intact, LOL.  That's a great sport, but I don't mind telling you that watching scrimmages makes me wince and my jaw drop.  Go for it, but BE CAREFUL!  Big Smile  The way it's going, it might just give Soccer a run for its money here in the States as an 'imported' sport.

Ray:  You might get a kick out of this--I took a recording of "Carmina Burana" into class today to show the choir what they're expected to do. They just sat there and went "WOW", and after that, one of my tenors piped up and said, "How high do we go, Doc?"  I said, "A's and B-flats, and full bore."  He thought about that for a moment and said, "That's really B-lls to the Walls, isn't it?"

I'm still recuperating from THAT one!  Laugh  High-school teenage boys.  OBOY!

Well, that's about it from StillSoggyCal.   Just waiting for the Next Wave to roll in and flood the streets.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

if you are losing lots of headlights through burnouts try having a look at the grounds for the lights.

Thanks JR! We'll have to give that a try... Seems to be a pretty common complaint among BUG owners. I've considered convincing Kit (Loving Wife) to tell the nice police officer "yes Officer, of course I know the headlight is out...it's a BUG afterall." Whistling Then, she could ask the officer if he'd be so kind as to put it in for her... Yeah!!MischiefLaugh

Yep, met with THAT and Mr. BOSS... situation resolved, life is "good." And yes, I think they wanna keep me around for awhile yet, so wasn't any point in having me risk life, limb, and truck for what probably would've been a very short meeting. So.....I'll just pull what I can from the minutes, make a follow-up call or two, and knock THAT together for her instead.

In the meantime, I'm gonna listen to the wind howl, follow the on-going road mishaps on the scanner...and w**k a bit more on the roundhouse.

Believe me Tom, it'll catch on quick when football players start getting wind of it. I absolutely LOVE it. BC boy eh? My dad ain't a huge fan of them, and neither am I. Clemson through and through for me, lol. and believe me, when you've got the contact sport mentality, rugby is the best sport in the world.

speaking of soccer, I heard on Saturday somebody (I forget who) say "Soccer is a gentleman's sport played by hooligans and rugby is a hooligans sport played by gentleman." you would not believe the brothership of rugby. you absolutely hate the other team for the amount of time you're on the pitch, but you're best friends the rest of the time, haha. and you dnt try to seriously harm people; it just comes with the game. you help each other up on the pitch etc.

ROFLMAO     Typical HS Boy!  Gotta love 'em.  Oh to be young again.  I see the thread you left yesterday has gotten itself locked.  Personally I would have done it a few pages back...........Whistling  The "Opera Coach" telling you about Vocal Teaching wasn't quite right.  According to Anna Kaskas, former Metropolitan Lead Contralto and member of the Metropolitan Broadcast Quartet back in the 1930's and of whom I studied voice for 2 years at Eastman (Before transferring to John Malloy formerly a lead Tenor at La Scala), Vocal Coaches were just people who were paid to listen to you sing after you had established your technique.  They rarely even said much.  Many would grunt now and then, open a can of beer and belch loudly now an then.  For this they received quite high hourly remittance..........  Before you establish your vocal technique, the voice teacher (of which I have been one) works with you on both technique and interpretation.  OTOH, I bet THAT guy probably sang a convincing Iago!EvilSmile,Wink, & GrinLaugh

Been cold in the house all day.  High outside made to 54°F.  Since it has now gone back down to 30°F, I think I'll fire up the wood stove and get some warmth in here.

Later!

Danny- Yes Virginia there is a -Whoops, sorry about that Dan. But, yes , there are 'Gator farms. I know that in the Dade county area,Miami, the Seminole tribe has a farm where they wrestle with the gators. One on one. Just a couple years ago,one of the wrestlers got severely hurt.

I hope you guys realize I almost got a hernia trying to catch up to the diner on a hand car. I sure did grow two handfuls of calluses..

Prayers for all.

Gee Flip all those automotive roots and no speeder? And yes, the Noles and Gators do seem to spend a fair amount of time rasslin though one might confuse it with footbalDunce

With the skill Ulrich shows shunting the diner up and down the tracks, perhaps he should petition the Gulag to be allowed to apply for a second career as an engineerWhistling

Isn't the phrase supposed to refer to the regulator mechanism of steam locomotives Tom? I thought the governor was a rotating shaft with two spheres 180 apart and a pressure operated linkage that allowed the orbs to move apart as RPM increased. this either opened a relief valve or closed a feed that controlled boiler pressure and led to the term b....s out. Or is it all myth? To the wall besides being a favorite phrase of heavy metal bands would also refer to the spheres being in close proximity to the retaining cage or containment wall.

Might be right in there with "more tea vicker"?

Hey ya'll, had to catch up with the new diner.

Not much doing with the MR. The car is being more cantankerous than ever.

My car still runs rich, the oxygen sensor and spark plugs also indicate rich. I noticed the Oxygen sensor that was on the car was loose (I never messed with it before) so I tightened it and still no change. To top that off the something is wrong with the EEC since I can't get any codes. The last codes I wrote down pointed to running lean, but it was (and still is) running rich. It also pops and hesitates during acceleration in first and second gears. Fuel filter perhaps? I never changed that, and if that's the case, then it's hopefully a free fix. I saved the tank from my 1997 (father wants it for his 86 LTD wagon or LTD LX, which ever one he decides to part with) and I had a new (less than a month old) fuel filter in it.

Barry, are trebuchets, ballistas and onagers still allowed?

Flip, up here you can add the georgia and alabama colleges to the mix-up. That really gets fun given I'm the only Bager's fan for miles.Big Smile

Ray and Tom, I should have bet money on that thread. I was willing to wager on the mods closing it up before everyone got tired of it. Laugh

Rob, I know what you mean about wet....its getting pretty sloppy down here, starting to make me rethink my not wanting a vehicle with 4WD...., or getting another boat...

I'm thinking getting another boat might be a good idea here. It actually rained long into the evening. In spite of it being -2C now---which means freezing rain---ain't it just plain ol' yucck! out here?

Ray:

Actually, I left the thread before all that took place, LOL!  But you got my curiosity up, so I went back to it and read the discussed post.  It wasn't aimed at me, but TStage.  Good thing it wasn't, otherwise they'd have heard my laughter all the way to Ontario (he said with an Evil Chuckle).

If I'd gone to an Instructor just to learn notes and technique, I'd be one of those 'Put A Nickel In And He Plays' type of musicians, which I definitely am NOT!  Laugh  At least not to all the singers and choruses I've accompanied over and over--and OVER--again during my career.

Oh well, different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

But my, that was one TESTY little thread while it lasted.  Whistling

I'm with you, though.  I'm still laughing about my Tenor, today.  Ah, students, God Love 'Em.  Tongue  They keep me young (and definitely still with a sense of humor).

JR:  The rain IS falling on us, buddy.Tongue  It must have taken a left turn at Amhearst or somewhere like that, LOL!   Just saw the same dog on the raft float by again--in the OPPOSITE direction.  Shock

Good evening. Two words for you. One is snow, the other would be full of **** if I tried to write it. It's gonna get cold again also. Another two words the software wouldn't let me write comes to mind.

Sam- Yep, the written word has no voice inflection nor does it have any kind of inclination as to how it is really meant. THAT is why I must emphasize occasionally, NEVER do I mean to be gruff, mad at someone or do I intend for anything I say to be rude, mean spirited or snobbish and I definitely will not say something that I mean to be insulting or hurtful. If you have a doubt about what I mean, trust me, It's how I say it that is causing the confusion. I have in my head what I mean and how I mean it and for some reason it doesn't always read to someone else like it does to me. Similar to the first and last letters of a word being correct and the rest being wrong and still being able to understand. Well, maybe not. If I mean something to be mean, you'll really know it. I do not get upset easily and most times it's just me trying for someone to know I didn't mean it differently. Usually I am just kidding when I do say something not exactly right, and with a somewhat dry sense of humor I must admit I am sometimes mis-taken. Totally confused? I am. I think I just talked myself dizzy.

Sawyer- If you've every heard the old Bobby Bare song "The Winner" (check it out on the YouTube as I really doubt a man of your youth has heard it) you must admit the man could have been a Rugby player instead of a brawler.

Tom- (chuckle) there have been a few times when I've been confused over Twhite and Tstage myself. (what was the name of the thread by the way).

Gentlemen and four legged friends, it's late for me and what I'm typing is getting more and more difficult as I'm having to correct way to many typos.

Prayers for those in need.

***Wonder how a hydrofoil would work over muddy pastures? I don't know how I'm going to put hay out in a day or two considering the ground just oozes more and more water.  Good Morning Everyone,

it´s been the coldest night in our region since they started to record temperatures in the 18th century! A temperature of -18 C makes seem a freezer warm! Spend about 15 minutes to de-ice my car -

SHIIVERRRRR!

Janie, hot tea, please, and a French toast - I´ll be in the corner booth, trying to warm up!

Packer - I talked to Vinnie - it was one of his bright moments - about trebuchets, ballistas and onagers. He clearly told me, that no dang furriners are allowed in the Diner. The same goes for that dogapult, Sam - Vinnie seems to have a zero tolerance policy established.

Here is a link which may be of interest!

Sawyer - take care of your bones. Rugby ain´t no game for sissies, no, Sir!

JR - not a bad idea! I actually inquired about getting an engineer´s licence, but they told me I´d be to old for that - (expletive deleted), grumble, rant!

Tom -  mind if I add a little to your geography knowledge? Schwarzwald is not Bavaria - it is a little west of that state of Lederhosen and beer! The really beautiful Schwarzwald region is in the state of Wuerttemberg and people there have a dialect of their own - actually very close to the Swiss dialect. If you like hiking and enjoy good food - this is the place to go. From Hamburg, it is about 500 miles or 6 hours to go there. Remember, we still have no general speed limit on our Autobahns! Smile

Germany is not even the size of Texas, but it enjoys the luxury (and the cost) of 16 federal states, each state with its own parliament. If you just add up the number of representatives and include the federal parliament, we have over 1,500 elected representatives! Ridiculous! You can cross all of Germany in a day by car and still have time left to visit some of the country´s neighbors.Any attempt to streamline our legislature has failed so far. SoapBox

Chris - seems as if That ain´t that bad afterall!  Thumbs Up

Track planning is supposed to be fun - but why do things always turn out differently than I thought they´d be. It is either too much track for the space or too little space for the tracks I need. Changing scale is no solution to the issue, either. Must be one of Murphy´s laws... Sad I am still not sure which way I should head, but as my CFO still has objections to my funding proposals, I will remain in the planning phase for a little more time.

The DIY cheque goes to some gear that we need to install in our bathroom - so no lumber to start building my layout! That´s a Thumbs Down

 Have a good day!

Good morning. It's 36 and clear. The high will be 67 and sunny.

Not much happening today with the exception of the weekly doctors appointment. Maybe today I'll find out how much longer I'll be stuck with this vacuum unit. Results came back on my lab work. All good. No need to change anything. I had an issue with a loco not wanting to program on the program track yesterday. Turns out the program track doesn't have enough power so I programmed it on the main. Worked fine then. All I was doing was changing the address. I can read the CV's just fine while on the program track, just when it comes to changing any it has to be on the main. Not sure about the type of decoder but it's the only one I have that exhibits this behavior. I think I picked it up as a freebie in a trade. Nice things about having a layout set up for DC operation is I can turn off all the blocks but the one I'm using to program the loco on, so no need to remove the others from the track.

Good morning all, the weather is a far cry from last weekend’s 45F, today it’s snowing and the high will be in the 20’s.  The temperature will continue to drop until Friday when the high will be 19F.

I worked a little on the two critters last night getting them ready for LS&W markings and new nose safety stripes.  I hope the new sound decoders will arrive by the end of next week.  The decoders come with generic steam/diesel sounds; however I can flash them with downloaded custom GE 44T sounds.  I plan on mounting the speaker on the cab roof above the operator. And the decoder will sit under the operator’s position.

The table is almost ready to receive the new roundhouse that was ordered last night.  I have a CMR 150’ turntable that has a 7/32” I.D. brass tube extending down and my 1 RPM motor has a 1/8” O.D. drive shaft.  I managed to sweat together three pieces of brass tubing to make the connection between turntable and drive shaft.

Last night a “new” video played on RFD-TV; NKP in color, 1957-1959 operations in Indiana and Ohio.  It was surprised that C&O leased diesels to the NKP in November 1958 (?) to retire all remaining steam locomotives instead of one for one swaps as the diesels entered service.  Maybe that’s why NKP is no more?  Next week is NKP on W&LE trackage.

Good Morning--

Only one day in and we're already on page 4. OK. We'll be looking for a switcher by next week!Big Smile

The weather here is just plain ol' dull with those little tiny snowflurries. Enough to hide the ice so we can slip and slide our way to the car. Or step into an ice covered puddle or----Sigh

Apparently we're supposed to see little tiny snowflurries pretty well into the weekend so we're gonna stay dull and cold----by Wednesday the low that night will be at -16C and Thursday's high will be -9C.

Rob: A hovercraft of some sort might be a good idea at this rate. I know my backyard ooozes water wherever I step nowDead

I set out some orders for some more PECO turnouts so I can build up the Williston Terminal yard. This yard is going to service a series of "off-site" industries plus be used for storage of--"What am I going to do with these"-- locomotives.Whistling No LHS that I went to seemed to have quite the ones that I was looking for.ConfusedGrumpy Another thing I ordered was a bunch of EL kits for some signs I'm mucking around with. See whether I can get something a little more realistic than the stuff I put in recently-----and I'm getting somewhat near the point of being able to get a photo close up without the furriness---so maybe---Whistling

Chloe, I'll have a 3 egg breakfast platter with home fries and ham please--as well as a coffee. I'm going to sit in the corner booth and check those MR mags outSmile

Good Morning All,

I see PC's been in with his wake up call. Can I have a hand to help peel the wait staff off the ceiling? Sheesh not so loud this early Phillip!

I'll have a regular and an english muffin please.

Vincent - sounds like you have a mismatch somewhere in the electronics. When you swapped in the larger throttle body, did all the pins line up and is there maybe another circuit active that wasn't before? Of course it could also be the usual suspects - bad O2 sensor or temp sensor. A vacuum leak would run lean so that's probably not it. The no code thing is a puzzlement though. It's almost never as simple as a fuel filter and that would show up more in the upper gears where you need higher sustained fuel flow.

Lee - keep me posted on progress please with the decoder install. Do you plan to camoflage the speaker in the cab roof or just let it hang? What about a speaker baffle - any chance there?

Ulrich - Are there any construction projects near you? If so could you maybe go pester them for scraps and cast off bits (which will be plentiful if they are anything like most of our construction guys here). Here that is also a great source for the extruded polystyrene sheet insulation we all know and love. If you're on a budget, you can do a lot with a little creativity and the joy of the cheap and happy acquisition can be great.

Rob - one word - hovercraft - preferably a nice size one man unit. Just stay away from the thorn bushes.

Well - gotta run lots to catch up with in the shop what with the power out all day yesterday (came back on at 8pm).  CUL, J.R.

Ah -  I see Barry has been in while I was typing and had the same idea for Rob. Yes indeed Barry - great minds think similarly. Will we see progresspics of the layout at some point or have I blindly missed a link to same?

JR, I doubt a speaker baffle will fit.  I think window shades will be in order.  I have some green I can install in the front and back windows and visor type on the sides will hide most of the speaker. Before these Digitrax N-scale decoders came out my best option was a transfer caboose to hold the sound.  I’ll have to cut one of the windows for the sound to escape the cab,

Rob- Get an Airboat. They'll travel over damp grass. Trappers use them to hunt gators in the 'Glades.

Good morning.  Its a light snowy morning here.  Guess I was spoiled with the 50 degree days last weekend.

Not much planned today. Maybe work on the layout some, and clean up the house a bit.

Hope everybody has a good morning.

 Good Afternoon,

well, it is sunny outside, but not really warm. Should the weather guessers be right, the coming night will be the coldest ever  since the ice age. A temperature of - 21 C beats any record. The good news is - it will be getting warmer, temperatures are expected to hike up to -3 C, but there will be also lotsa  funny white stuff coming out of the clouds. This winter is really starting to get me!

Zoe, may I have my usual C & C, please? What? Vinnie has ended the French weeks here in the Diner? No more Calvados? Oh, well, make it a Brandy, then.

I have been looking around where I could find some scrap lumber, but apparently there is none around. Most carpentry businesses use shredded scrap lumber for heating and our houses are commonly built of brick.  It was worth a try, though - thanks, Lee, for suggesting it!

I am going to play it low & lazy for the rest of the day. There will be my favorite show on TV tonight - the "Rosenheim Cops". It is about 2 lackadaisical cops in rural Bavaria, one being a native guy, the other one having been transferred  from Hamburg, on charges of misconduct. It really is a clash of cultures. And, of course, the bloke from Hamburg ALWAYS solves the case! There are also lots of pretty "Fraeuleins" to be seen ... Big Smile

Have a good time!

Lunch Time!!!!!  well almost.....

Ulrich we have more polyticianers than THAT just in NYS!  We have been doing some looking at combining locates and sharing costs as a way of saving some money here in Finger Lakes.  For instance (Tom turn your head and plug yur ears - you're not going to like this.....)  Seneca Falls will soon be voting on disbanding as a Village and having the Town (over here the next governmental body) and the county take over all the services.  In fact they will definitely save on the Village taxes, but will see a corresponding  increase in the Town and County Taxes.  In fact the increase may be more than what they were saving.  Things that make you go Hmmmmm???

OK, I'll pay for everyone's lunch today for a little favor.  Take a gander at the 2 photos below and tell me which one would get your vote.......  Danke!

I had a bunch of Family and some artist friends I know tell me which one they like, but you guys are a better audience of what fellow MRs would like best....  So, thanks in advance!

Ray: I'd be thinking the bottom one myself.

Although the top one works as well. How's that for being diplomatic?Whistling

But I do prefer the bottom one---just because it is not always often that one gets meets like thatThumbs Up

Ray - those 1500 politnicks are just the top level, i.e. federal and state parliament. Then there is is county and town bodies. The whole lot adds up to nearly 0.5 million!
