Sam,

Have you considered the possibility that what seemed to be distractions were actually a method to see how well you could cope. In the past, I have been through similar training situations in the military, and later in my career as a fire fighter/EMT. The purpose was always to add additional pressures to basic activities and see how well the individual adjusts to it. If that was the case, it sounds like you handled the situation in satisfactory manner. Good luck going forward.

Q: What do you call a hundred politicians at the bottom of the Mississippi River (or ocean...)?

A: A nice start!

I thought the EPA had laws against the dumping of TOXIC WASTE into rivers and streams...Whistling THAT and I rather suspect the poly-tick-ians would be...hard to keep down. I see them bobbing back to the surface like so many fish heads in a toilet bowl.Mischief

ROB: Happy birthday tomorrow to Mrs. ROB.

ROBBY P: OK on finding the BUG stash, sometime when you get the time, let me know what you're looking to get rid of; I'll see what I can do to take some of THAT "junk" off your hands. With the taxes, Mr. Boss has some IRS tax table thing he looks at to determine how much of my wages to pull out for the govt. With irregularly irregular hours, he said it has something to do with averaging the hours over some time period...Confused I guess once I get my W-2 and Loving Wife does the taxes...we'll see how good (or bad) a job he did.

RAY: Rerun did the same thing the beagle did when we moved to Clarence. The more we packed stuff up, the more worried he got. ANY "disturbance in the force" to a dog is major. On moving day, he rode in the wife's BUG (with some misc. crap THAT just wouldn't fit anywhere else). He was focused like a guided missile on the big yellow truck ahead (the rental P*O*S THAT I was piloting). Once at the new house, he was quickly escorted upstairs to what has since become "his" room. He was able to observe the load-in. Actually...I think he was supervising us!

SAM: I caught a glimpse of your...rant...probably a good thing you pulled it. Sounds like you're getting the hang of things though, despite the "distractions." Too bad you couldn't point to a sign like the buses have saying "do not talk to the driver (engineer, of course, in your case)!"

I'm gonna yield the floor, grab a double cheeeeeeeeeeese burger basket, sit me down at the RC and see who makes it in this evening.

Jeff, good to hear that you're close to ditching the vaccuum (well, once you get the other spot taken care of), and that the doctor took out another part of your 'hardware'. Yeah!!

I'm glad to be rid of that port too. As for this vacuum, seeing the back side of it can't come soon enough. The faster these wounds heal up, the better.

Good Evening, Chloe - I'll have some decaf java in a Rio Grande mug, please. Thanks!

Might be right in there with "more tea vicker"?

JR, I wonder if the original form of that was "More tea, Vicar" (as in one of those 'seminary interns')? Wink

If that doesn't work try making an appointment for the TPS with Jim for counseling. He's good with maladjusted stuffWhistling

Hey, hey, I'll have you know I only w**k with people, thank you - no animals or car parts, thanks! Evil (Sorry there, Vincent, don't think I could help your TPS much at all. I am NOT good at fixin' cars, trucks, etc. Oops

***Wonder how a hydrofoil would work over muddy pastures?

Rob, maybe Flip could send you one of those swamp boats - ah, I see Flip beat me to it, Airboats! I hear they use them in Florida...Smile,Wink, & Grin Great to hear about your progress and the doctor's visit.

Careful, DIners, it sounds like Todd might've got himself 'tangue-tongled'...Oops Oh, wait, that's how he usually is!Smile,Wink, & Grin

And I was rudely awakened yesterday morning by some ungodly-loud sound...And WHO let PC get his hands on THAT bullhorn, anyway? Grumpy

Ray, how's your roof w**k coming along? As for your two B-T-N photos (first set), I like the first one (with the upper track unoccupied). Thumbs Up (Probably the photographer/art major in me likes it better...) I think I'd agree with Johnboy, that I might like the bottom shot, but cropped further out with some more room for the locos to 'breathe'. On your second set, I like the first/top one - LOVE Shays!!Tongue (Pant, pant, hubba, hubba, ohyeah!)

Jeff, good to hear that you're close to ditching the vaccuum (well, once you get the other spot taken care of), and that the doctor took out another part of your 'hardware'. Yeah!!

Ulrich, from what you were saying about all the political types there, it sounds as though - if you live on a city block - at least one of your neighbors is on some legislature or governmental board! ShockSmile,Wink, & Grin

Chris, after reading your comments and Ulrich's about politicians, you guys reminded me of a (paraphrased) question (& answer):

Q: What do you call a hundred politicians at the bottom of the Mississippi River (or ocean...)?

A: A nice start!

Hey, Chris? - I'm beginning to think Rerun is one VERY smart dog! Yeah!!Thumbs Up... Whistling Oh, hey, you forgot that corollary of track planning: "The space allotted for a track plan ALWAYS appears larger and more spacious than it turns out to be, once you begin construction." (Kinda like that rear view mirror thing on cars...)

"SurferTom", WHAT? You're NOT up to the challenge of surfing the Sacramento River? Goodness, man, where's your spirit of adventure, after all? Laugh Good to hear that you were able to, uh.., help your neighbor in his "time of need". Smile,Wink, & Grin I suspect that if our 'friend-with-can-and-matches' continues, he will be escorted to the community's borders and told (more or less) where he can go with same. Some aren't quite as quick on understanding what's acceptable vs. not. For your choir, you could put all the tenors' chairs in a walk-in cooler overnight before your practices. Think that'd help them sing it their part better? (And how does choir-herding compare to cat-herding?)

Sam, all those turnouts look like a LOT of fun - NOT!

Barry, I guess I probably shouldn't tell you that I just got TurboTax and have my federal return filed (Missouri will wait until closer, as I actually owe them a little bit...), eh? Whistling

Oh, for Ulrich's "Slanglish dictionary" (or others' benefit/amusement), here are a few 'shorthand' terms I have used from time to time:

FWIW = For What It's Worth (like My 2 cents of maybe not even that, usually in reference to my opinion about something)

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary  (see explanation of FWIW above)

NTBCW = Not To Be Confused With (as in, "These are my layout plans, NTBCW how my layout is actually turning out, now that I have started building it.")

Oh, I spotted one that Dick used:      SR = Strawberry-Rhubarb  (pie flavor)

Rainy tonight (so far), supposed to change over tonight/tomorrow to sn*w (or is that sleet, or 'sneet'?). I heard we have a winter storm watch through about Saturday around this part of Missouri. But nothing compared to Ulrich's or Barry's or Johnboy's kind of cold weather. Oops

After w**k today, I stopped by the LHS owner's place and picked up my order (3 Accurail D&RGW 41' gondolas, some board & batten sheets, some Rix guardrails for my layout's roads, one of those cute battery-operated little paint mixers, and something else that escapes my mind for now). Will be heading home with my loot, after I finish my coffee. I'll be at the RC for now.

Blessings and Prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Dick - that´s a clear 10-4 from my side now. Those dang abbreviations cannot be found in my Advanced Learner´s Dictionary of Current English!

FFPX! (Fiel Fergnuegen & Pleim´s Xund) or Have fun & stay healthy!

You can find those abbreviations in the Radio Amateurs License Manual. The 10 codes are very popular with CB operators.

MRR: Got more raised roadbed in place, unfortunately I ran out of WS inclines of the right size, and all the LHS's seem to be low on stock. I guess I will have to order directly from WS.

DUKE: There is some SR Pie left from lunch, better get it quick before ED or Fergie arrives.

ED: The OJ is all out!!!! Cloe says that the car on the siding is empty!!!!

Well, I have the next two days off... Chloe, may I please have a RBF, with a Cheeseburger Deluxe (extra jalapenos please) and a side of curly season fries?  Thank you...  I had an interesting day today, I had to do low level platform stops at a few stations this morning, and then on the return trip to NY I had two roadforemen get on at Newark Penn Station, and ride into NY Penn on the headend... [EDIT: Rant removed for sake of job...]  here's a picture of SOME of the switches, not even half of the total, in New York Penn Station, coming from New Jersey...

Anyway, I'll get off the SoapBox and be at the RC studying my trackplan and my NORAC Rules Book!

Ray- I prefer the second shot… the letters on the tender of the upper engine is keenly displayed!!! Right On!

Darned, you went and got new photo’s, I prefer the upper of the second set… the background foliage seems better “exposed” than the other one is…

Vincent- GO FO THE PROPPER V8!!!! To quote Tim Allen “ Needs MORE POWER!!! Arh! Arh! Arh! arh!!!”

Ulrich- I had a hard time figuring out ROFLMAO, a while back, until someone did it to me when I explained the situation… Rolling On Floor Laughing My A** Off

Good afternoon. It's 62 and cloudy. The high will be 71 and it will be partly cloudy.

I wasn't feeling well this morning due to a bad blood sugar crash last night. Woke up feeling disoriented and dizzy. Fortunately that's past. Had my usual Wednesday visit with the Home Health nurse. Other than that, nothing's going on today other than my usual day-to-day activities.

Howdy!

Just popping in to say hi and grab a quick lunch.  I have been hekpling my son and one of his friends load the moving truck.  Mostly I have been holding the door, keeping the dog from getting loose, and giving expert advise on moving......  I told him he can avoid a lot of moving mistakes if he will listen to me as I know all the common mistakes having already made them in most of my many moves over the years......Whistling

Their poor beagle, Petey is beside himself as they move stuff out of the house.  Art reminded me of the sad looks we got during one of our moves back 258 or so years ago from our dog Chuckie.  We finally figured out that he was terrified THAT we were going to leave him.  We said to him, "You want to go"?  He started to jump up and down wagging his tail and ran over to one of the cars.  The rest of the trips we made, we just took him along.  he was happy as a dog can be.....

BTW, thanks again on your input on the photos.  You have been a very big help!  I'll let you in a few weeks how I made out.

Gotta run!  Have to do some quick shopping nd get back over to Art's house!

Good afternoon Ulrich, closer to evening for you. KA1VEI is my Amateur Radio call sign, "73" means "best regards". That is a good question you asked, and I should have explained it previously because FLIP asked the same question.

TODD: According to answers that I am receiving on the Trains forum, the Fed does NOT subsidize Freight Railroads such as CSX, UP, etc. I really didn't think so, but these two guys were pretty adament about it.

Good Morning. How about some fried mush and Karo syrup please. Yup coffee too thank you.

Don't have a clue what's up for today. Hopefully, well, I won't say that I won't say it.

Ulrich- Weeell. You never said you need stuff for the library, er, I mean the bathroom. That's understandable and totally acceptable to spend layout possible money on the bathroom. Comfort my man, it's all about the comfort of the room. Makes for a great day. Say, maybe you could run for office. Sounds like they'll soon have everybody in Germany in some political office before long.

Ray- Gee I don't know. I like the bottom one because it's got the train on the bridge also. But I like the top without the train because it shows more of the bridge. Plus I can't decide if the train on the bridge in the lower makes the shot too busy, or if it's me because I like to see more background. But the top looks like it could use a train up there. Maybe. Oh I don't know. OK just read Fip and Chris' comments. It's not just me. Buut, I do like the bottom. But I like your layout scenery work also. If I HAD to pick, gee. Maybe, yeah I guess #1. No, yah, 1. OH WAIT! After all that I seee you've posted two more. Hm, now this pair is easier for me for some reason, and I don't know why. I'd definitely say the first photo appeals to me more. Oh, I see you've already decided. Gee take a snooze around here and you miss all the fun. Oh well, at least I picked the one you did so I can now make up my own version of what happened.Laugh

Dick- Though I haven't a bit of proof other than what's bouncing around in the old noggin' I think, I would agree with you. Not counting the occasional Govt money hand outs in the form of loans, grants for certain projects etc they may have received. Though this doesn't answer your question of a definitive answer, you aren't alone. However with my track record, this doesn't look good for your side.

Welp, I best get a move on. Just got a call someone is having trouble putting a rotor (ignition) on a Chevy truckConfused. (says as I'm putting on red cap) besides, I'm having trouble believing Tom isn't a beach combing tanned surfer dude. I thought all Californian's were that way.

Have a Great Day!!!

 Good Afternoon Folks,

back from the GULAG - only 8 more days to go! Tomorrow I´ll have to do some w´rk, helping a friend with his businesses´ annual tax report. Earns me some money - well, maybe I can dedicate some of it to the funding of my railroad project ... Whistling  Friday is a regular day off - Petra and I will jointly make some goodies for us to enjoy over the weekend Dinner

Made it home just before the sn*w is starting to hit us. Temperatures have gone up a bit - it is now -6 C - but now that white stuff is being dumped on us. Glad I don´t have to go anywhere today.

Flo, nothing to eat, just had a late lunch/early dinner thing, so will you please make it a coffee in my LKAB mug and a Calvados out of Vinnie´s hidden bottle? I´ll stay here at the RC, if there is no objection.

Grayfox - can you turn an ignorant into an adept? What does KA1VEI  "73" mean? Vincent,   If you check and the current TPS is no good, then I'd see if the 2.3 fits as that worked fine before. There is an adjustable one out there but we're not sure it fits the throttle body you are now using. J.R.

Robby, the incentive or stimulus plan was to keep more money in the taxpayers pay check hoping it would cause you to spend more money on MRR supplies.   Where Bush gave you a lump sum check to run out and buy a pair of BL2s or a 4-8-8-4, the Obama plan was to give it to you a little at a time. So you would make many trips to the LHS for smaller purchases.

Ok now really with my retirement check I had to have extra money pulled out every month because if you make less than $50,000 (I think) they reduce the amount withheld for FedTax.  It’s almost the same idea as tax withholding on a part time job.

Or FedEx really messed up.

Good morning gents, sunny here today, 32.7F headed for 40's so we will see more melting of the snowpack. Bare ground is showing in spots.

This time of the year is great for finally getting some serious time at MRR'g, the holidays are over, I hid the HD jar, and the layout is coming alive.

A question for you guys, are ANY FREIGHT carring railroads being subsidized by the FED? I was in an argument of sorts with two friends over this subject. They are NOT RR people or even modelers, but they were adament that the FED subsidizes big RR'ds such as UP, CSX, BNI, etc, etc. I was under the impression that after deregulation in the early 80's that only Amtrak was receiving FED money to stay alive.  Good morning.  Its cold, and some light snow flurries.

I've been fighting taxes for the last week.  Why???  FedEx isn't taking out federal taxes.  I have a additional $5.00 coming out each pay, but that's it!!!  My wife used something from a tax website to see what we might get this year, well not having federal taken out killed it.  Might have lost about $100!!!  I emailed someone this morning with FedEx, and see what he says.

Not much planned today.  Might go by the LHS and see about getting some styrene.  I need a guard shack for my shipping company.

Rob....I honestly didn't know that.  I do know Pittsburgh is drilling a underwater tunnel thou.  I guess to help out traffic, bad thing is that its running out of cash for the project.

Chris....I found the bag of VW.  I will have to look and see what will work.  Some are the kind you pull back and let go.

Ray....Its a good shot either way.  Thumbs Up

Well I guess I better go.  Everybody have a good morning.

Morning ya'll

The instructor of my first class got sick, so that class got cancled for today. So I don't have really anything to do for the next hour or so.

Vincent - we discussed your car over lunch and the consensus is your TPS is maladjusted or bad. It should read from .8 DCV at idle to 4.8 DCV at full throttle. The symptoms are consistent with that as a problem. If you have a volt meter, try finding the feed wire and then the output to the ECC. With the motor off try opening the throttle and measure the voltage rise. Some of the Ford TPS units are adjustable, some were not so you might get lucky. If that doesn't work try making an appointment for the TPS with Jim for counseling. He's good with maladjusted stuff

That makes a lot of sense there, Thanks. I'll take a look at it when I get back home; however, I don't know if I should use the original TPS (for the 2.3) or the one ftom a 5.0. I have the throttle body from a 95 GT.

If all else fail, I could use it as an excuse to put in a proper V8.Mischief

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good MorningSleepy

Got up and found that the townhouse complex up the road now has a broken pipe to contend with which means that the water supply is a funny colour again. At least it's not on our street.Whistling

Going to be another dull day for our viewing pleasure with a few little tiny snowflurries for the 50kmh winds to kick around---and a high of -7C for today

Got to do some HD things this afternoon as well as a bit of offfice work.

Chloe, I'll just have a coffee and some toast with jam please---I'll be at the RC for a bitSmile,Wink, & Grin

Good Morning All,

29 this morning and haven't seen the sun all week but it's still more pleasent than the weeks before. I'll have a coffee and a coffee roll please Zoe. Finished packing stuff for the Springfield show last night - mostly sectional track in HO and O plus a bunch of "stuff we'll never use on the displays here. Did find a batch of unbuilt Athearn car kits and some Harriman style (not sure of the proper designation, but pre heavy weight) passenger kits. Since they don't make blue box freight car kits any more they should be a viable item to sell. Also found a box full of already built kits that we'll likely use for the afteroon program and those were mostly Athearn and Roundhouse with a couple of others mixed in.

Ray - I like the suggestions from the others about softening the light and backing up the lower locomotive so you can see the front of it.

Glad to hear Jeff and Rob are doing better especially the success of Rob's new meds. Still waiting to hear an update on Mrs PC but Phillip seems to have hit a busy patch again and is staying pretty much incommunicado.

Lots to do again today as we thrash to get the cars ready to go next week (Monday actually) and still allow time to go to Springfield. Catch you all later, J.R.

Good morning all,

Robby, they have 4 rivers believe it or not, one is under ground and yes it counts it moves just as much water as the other 3.

Jeff, so you’ll have the pump for a few more weeks?

Ray, soften the light with a frosted bulb or a frosted diffuser.  If the light has a globe or diffuser cover it with one ply of toilet paper for the photo shoot.

Rob, sounds like good news, keep it up!

Good Evening, Chloe? double cheeseburger basket with a Coke please 'n thankya...

Back from another successful (more or less) evening of shooting high school basketball for THAT. This time at Iowa City's West High School...new venue, new (to me) team. Half of North Liberty's kids go to Iowa City schools, the other half to my adopted Clear Creek Amana. I was thinking last week THAT maybe we oughta give some ink and column space to the IC half of town. Friday, THAT had the same ideer. Points for me for thinking it first, and for making it so.

RAY: I agree the top pic from the 2nd attempt gets my vote as well. One thing I'd do different though, and it's just me and my half-cent of opinionated opinion, is I'd back the bottom train up a little bit so as to see the front end. IF I was railfanning THAT and missed the front of the train, I'd be...Banged Head for being late on the shutter. I was going to say it seemed a little "too cropped," but after reading your explanation of the scene...I can see why. Keep in mind, THAT keeps saying THAT I tend to crop too much... THAT is one neat little bridge you've got there...and I wouldn't cross it on a dare! I agree with...KEITH, I think it was...looking at THAT shot, makes me feel like I'm right there feeling the rumble, about to get choked-out by the smoke! Thumbs UpBow

ROB: GLAD to hear the good news on your improvement! Sounds like you're on the right plan, we'll keep you in our thoughts for continued improvement!

JEFF: Same goes for you, sounds like the vacummn, vacumn, vacum....the suction device...is doing the job. Too bad they couldn't have gotten THAT bright idea sooner 'eh? Any more news on the disconnected bone??

TOM: Your neighbor tried to flush an angel fish??? And the porcelain god rejected the offering? Laugh

Let me tell ya a little story.... my first year of college, at the Morrison Institute of Techno-ology...I had a roomate who liked to go fishing. He grabbed a case of Red White and Blue for $3.00 (1988) and went fishin' in the Mighty Miss-a-sip. He brought back a bunch of catfish, and proceeded to clean 'em in the dorm room. Our rooms held 4-5 comfortably with a living room, kitchenette, bath, and sleepin' areas. He decided in his rather drunken state, to try and flush the fish heads.

It didn't work.

*cue "Fish Heads" by Barnes and Barnes*

Clogged THAT thing up beyond all manner of belief.

So...we called-in the plumber, after marveling at the sight of a bunch of fish heads bobbin' in the bowl Shock We, as a group, stood by our brother and uniformly said "it had to have been something the guys upstairs did." Plumber didn't buy it, and unclogged our throne while muttering something under his breath.

"Fish heads, fish heads, rolly polly fish heads. Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up  YUM!"Dead

CN CHARLIE: Hey, no sympathy expected here Pal! Big Smile I went and chose the room myself. This is the price I pay for the choice I made...Banged Head It looked a whole lot bigger before I started doing trackplans...

I'll have me a seat at the RC and see whomelse comes in yet this evening...

howmus
and the usual bending of the image by the edges of the lens (I forget what it is called) when doing close up w*rk.  I hadn't really noticed it until you pointed it out.......  (Now see what you did!Whistling)

That , I think, is "pincushioning"-----there is another term for the sides ballooning out instead of the corners but I can't seem to get it into the brain now-----Whistling
