CederstrandCame in and said to my wife, "Now watch the power come back on!" You guessed it, I barely got those words out of my mouth when the mild thump of power turning back on swept through the house. I waited 10 minutes before turning the generator back off, just to be sure.
Yep, sounds just like Mr. Murphy, Rob! And if you hadn't started up THAT generator, the power would still be out now... Go figure!
Hope your power stays on, so you can get some MRR'ing time in today.

Fruit & veggie smoothy to start, please.
Wintery weather last night caused a power outage around midnight. Went out and started up the generator to run a couple heat lamps in Luigi's dog house (our skinny Italian Greyhound). Came in and said to my wife, "Now watch the power come back on!" You guessed it, I barely got those words out of my mouth when the mild thump of power turning back on swept through the house. I waited 10 minutes before turning the generator back off, just to be sure.
Put out some hay today. Hope to get down into the train room this evening. Have a good day y'all.

Todd, Jim - my little town is very, no, I mean VERY rural, at least for Germany. We enjoy the view very much - today we had a couple of squirrels chasing each other in the tree right in front of the window! Petra and I are not really city folks and I am afraid of too many people around me. I still have a hard time to go out, makes my heart race like Milwaukee Road´s Hiawatha class A 4-4-2.
TMarshKinda makes me want to build some scenes using buildings I like that would not fit the RR. But then what would I do with them?
Todd, I'd guess you would put photos of them online, right?
Jim- I have no idea what scale they are. At first few I did assume they were HO but then I saw several pics with him and one where he actually has his hand on a car. I assume maybe 1/24-25. Maaybe 1/20. (edit: Ooops, (he he. Ahem), spoke backwards. Actually meant smaller in size.) I'm not familiar with the other scales in inches. Still, awesome work.

In order to keep my position as Master and Supreme Ruler of the House, I don't argue with my wife.
I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk.
Good Morning. French toast please and coffee thank you. Hey, we're supposed to get to 22F today and sunny. Yee haw.
I HOPE to stay at the house today and just piddle around, of course getting the car in the garage is a priority but it can be done without too much of a concentrated effort. Luckily, just a few things have to be re located.
Ulrich- What a nice view. Somehow I assumed you would be living in a town and staring at a street or someone else's building front. You should have a lovely spring to look forward to.
Barry- Springfield had a drive through liquor store several years back. It didn't last long. The novelty wore off I suppose.
Sue- good to see you again. How about some progress shots.
Looks like Ray rested well last night and is back to his usual self. All is as it should be.
Have a Great Day!!!
(A figure is seen outside of the Diner, kicking his shoes against the side of the foundation to knock off some white stuff. The door opens...)
Good Morning, Flo, there's a bit of the white stuff out there, took a while to clear off the car before coming in. I'll have a Santa Fe mug of coffee and a cinnamon roll, please. Thanks!
Well, lookee there, Flo! Appears I have the TOP, so start the tab for me, I figure the chowhounds will be coming in pretty quick here now....
Robby P. Jim.......I thought about adding some animals. I just painted and poured the swamp today. That will take a day or so to dry. I will try to get some shots up next week.
Jerry, you did nice w**k on that IC caboose. I'd agree with Todd - it looks good (at 2', or however close your camera was...).
Tom - maybe that loco's previous owner took the weight out because all that paint made it too heavy? LOL Can't wait to see her in her restored beauty!
Lee - that guy's layout is amazing, all right! The rest of you Diners need to take a look at those pics. But Todd - it's NOT HO scale? What scale is that?
Chris, if you find a 'Tri-X' filter for PhotoShop (Elements), please let me know. Of course, usually, my pics aren't so sharp that I have to worry about THAT...
Looks like this storm mostly was southern, so Chris, Inch, Jerry and Todd may have missed this one. Now on the other hand, Garry, Bama, Rob, Sawyer, and our other 'mid-southern' folks, you may be getting snow and/or ice, depending on how far below the Mason-Dixon you are. Jeff, did you get anything down your way, or did it pass to the north of you?
Ulrich, it looks like you have a nice view from your apartment - you can see deer from there, even? Keep on looking for ways to squirrel away a few euros here and there toward the MRR'ing and the pond-jump!
With the roads as they currently are (take-your-time and tricky-to-drive-on), I hope I may not have any calls out today. (Hey, I can hope, right?)
I've been trying to figure what my remaining freight cars I actually need to round out the rolling stock. I have most of what I need - was doing a rough count of them yesterday and it's about 100 or so (counting current ones and kits-to-be-assembled), but I am a bit heavier than I need to be on 50-footer cars (or maybe I should refer to it as I'm short on the amount of 40 footer cars). Boxcars aren't as lopsided on the numbers, but the flats and gondolas are where things aren't as balanced as they need to be. It looks like Tichy or Red Caboose are the main folks making 40' flats. I've got in some Accurail 41' gondolas, and want some more ATSF and maybe some other lines. Anybody know of who makes the shorter gondolas in addition to Accurail (affordable ones, that is...)?
I'll grab a spot by the window to eat my breakfast - love the way the steam looks when it's cold outside!
Blessings,
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe I'll have a nice bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar, and lots of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug if you please. I'll be in the back booth by the stove keeping warm.
It was a cold one herein the Finger Lakes last night with a low of -2°F. "We're havin' a Heat Wave..... Tropical Heat Wave....." Right now it is 5°F outside but calm and it may get all the way up to 14°F later this afternoon. Just lit the wood stove (didn't get up early enough to save the fire....) to warm the house and keep the main furnace quiet.
I have a bunch of things THAT I need to catch up on today since I wasn't even home much for the last 3. So I guess I better get moving.
Later!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Looks like I missed some birthdays. HHope you have many more Happy and Healthy ones.
Jerry-Nice work. Looks good from here.
I am NOT going to comment on the weather. It took four days to clean the roof and get all the pies and cake fillings off. The birds did enjoy the crumbs.Wonder what size catapult you guys were using? And where was it hidden?

Good morning. Its another cold day. Right now its about 12 degrees.
Not much going on today other than grocery shop, and run around town.
Hope everybody has a good morning!!
"Rust, whats not to love?"
HOLY COW! UNFREAKING believable. Models?? Darn, I saw two of my old cars and its MA GIC . WOW!!!.
Good morning, Chloe. I will have a cinnamon roll with my coffee, Thankyou.
I haven't been around much lately, but we having lots of layout time. Hope that you all are doing well.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Good Morning from IceBlockVille
It is now -21C and with a 10kmh wind it has a -27C windchill. CCCOLD!!! Sheeesh!! We get OUR sun when it is VERY CCCOLD out----
Oh well----
Chris: That drive in booze place has me wondering about it's history---who thought this one up? That type of thing---I'm going through some old pix from a few sites and throwing up here on occassion----
I'm having a day off'n the weekend seminar series--it looks like an attack of brokenpipe has left our classrooms kinda under water this morning--
---So Imma gonna go into the trainroom and redo a service yard which is too dang small to use My track planning skills leave a little to be desired at times
Chloe, I'll have a full 3 egg platter with homefries and sausages and a large coffee please---I'll be over at the fireplace warming up---

It has stopped sn*wing and the sun´s out for a few moments. I took a picture from our living room window, which `d like to share:
Sometimes, we can watch deer close to the tree line in the back!
Good Morning Folks,
Zoe, I´ll have a large bowl of cafe au lait, croissants, honey, jam and butter, please.
The night brought us another foot of sn*w and it continues! There seems to be no end to this. I had to leave home early in the morning, well not that early, but early for a Saturday, to clear the sidewalk in front of our "old" house. It still hurts so much to go there, but I am still liable for anything that happens there until a new owner takes over. Makes me feel like Linus - where is my blanket?
Ray - moving house is some chore, isn´t it? I still have not yet fully recovered from our move in November and there are some places, which still need my attention, i.e. bath room, the train, err, guest room. I just don´t feel like doing these things at the moment.
I was planning of "diverging" some of the money I earned towards my MRR budget, but I need to buy a new coat. The old one is now beyond repair - after 15 years, it´s no wonder.
Petra´s birthday is coming up in two weeks, so some of that money will go into a birthday present, as well. Will I ever be able to start on that layout? Well, at least, it is a dream of mine and life can´t be all that bad, when you still have dreams...
Have a joyful weekend!
LSWrr wow, this guys model railroad is out of this world! It's hard to believe these are models! Enjoy! http://www.flickr.com/photos/24796741@N05/sets/72157604247242338/show/with/2346008881/
wow, this guys model railroad is out of this world! It's hard to believe these are models!
Enjoy!
Neat stuff there LEE, thanks for posting the link!
As I was looking through his stuff...something kept bugging me. No...not the fact THAT this guy's w**k is incredible, well, actually yes...THAT's it. It's too perfect! Then I narrowed it down to WHY it looked "too perfect." I think I found a shortcoming with today's super-fine digital cameras: no grain. The black and white shots just "didn't look right," because I was expecting to see the good 'ol Plus-X or (even worse) Tri-X grain!!!!
Even the color shots...too sharp, too smooth, too...well, perfect! It's like some HD TVs out there, "more real than real."
I may have lost my mind... or I miss film much, much, much more than I've been willing to admit!?!?
Speaking of film and photos...BARRY: some neat stuff you tacked up earlier today... a drive-in booze shop??? Wow... wonder how long THAT would last today?
RAY: Glad the load-out/load-in is finally completed...more or less. I told my wife when we got this place, to make sure this is where she wants to be...I ain't moving again!!! Too much crap has accumulated over the years...then there's my stuff too!
Welp...I was wanting to do some more self-imposed mental anguish/torment/abuse...I mean, trackplanning...this weekend, but not sure it'll happen. Tomorrow is "freeze my bippy off while shooting fellow firefighters doing a waterball contest in 15 degree weather" day. THAT will need it for layout Monday morning...so I'll have to get the pics edited/processed/prepped for her as well as the write-up. Fortunately THAT part should only be captions and a couple background paragraphs. So watch, I'll get down there and find NOBODY from the departments I'm a-lookin' for... Hey THAT, I gotcha a really cool pic of a guy from Sioux City (extreme other end of the state)... Actually, in a pinch, THAT'd work...Coralville (host) adjoins North Liberty...so it's in "our neighborhood." it would just be so much better to have the "hometown heroes" for the North Liberty and Solon papers. We shall see...
Hey, glad to hear the little steamer is de-painting well... The paint is coming off in sheets? YIKES!
JERRY: I like the IC cabboose... 2 foot away or not...I like it!
ROBBY P: Looking forward to seeing the BUGS...LOVING WIFE is even more-so
JEFF: I second TODD's notion...send us all THAT 50 degree weather you care too...well, like the man said, 'cept fer the T-storms...maybe they can be dropped-off along the way somewhere...
Time for a late-night RBF and we'll see who/what comes in yet this evening...

Just dropped in for a hot coffee, 5F outside now at 11:55 pm, with a wind chill now at -10F, and headed for -20F later tonight. We now officially have the coldest night of the entire winter here. Snow cover is about 5" with much deeper piles along the roads and were it drifted in the high winds.
Looks like just you and I tonight Cloe, too cold for most of the patrons I guess.
Imma gettin tired, so Imma gonna head out and go home.
Night!

Lee- Very, very nice!! Very nice. I was pleased to see it wasn't HO scale. If it was...... I was going to quit.
Sam, I could easily see there being 1000 switches in NYP. That article in the January 10 Trains was pretty neat! 1,290 trains A DAY!
Nik, congrats on the moderator position!
Lee, PLEASE tell me that those are real and the guy is only claiming that they're models!
I see there have been a few birthdays... Happy birthday!
It also seems that everyone is getting the same cold weather that we're getting... :/
Also forgot to mention that I'm getting a bunch of track from a member on these forums (TrainManTy). A bunch of 22" radius and straight Atlas code 100 sectional track. I currently have nothing to do with it, but maybe I can start on benchwork soon...
Catch ya later!
(Pfft, I wish!)
Evenin' folks!
Flo just a cup of decafe and a couple scones. I'll be sitting by the stove in the back trying my darnedest to get warm again!
Well........ deep subject I've been told! My son is finally moved into the new house, the truck has been emptied, cleaned, and returned, I got a few minutes to play "chase me" with granddaughter #1 and played with granddaughter#2 for a while. Thirty hours of w*rk moving him in 3 days! I can barely move even with the Advil......
Todd and Barry I haven't been testy..... just very sore and tired. Besides, "Please! This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let's not bicker and argue over who killed who."
Still left to do - get my trailer emptied as well as the 10' x 20' storage rental filled with one air boat and boxes piled 8' high! We will worry about THAT next week sometime.
I think I am just going to sit, enjoy the warm stove, and relax for the rest of the evening.
Have a good one!

Evening all. Janie, I'll take a RBF and a cheesesteak, thanks.
Well, ended up not getting to catching up last night... Every time I go to catch up, something happens and I can't...
Anyways, I got all my exam grades back:Chem H- 94Theo 2- 97English 2H- 86Algebra 2H- 75US History 1- 99 (I missed one question, so I got a 149/150. Really happy about the grade, but so mad that I missed that one point...)Spanish 2- 99
So pretty good. Report cards will be mailed soon, and Powerschool will be open soon as well, where I can see every individual grade. I will also need to choose my classes.
Well, on Wednesday, I was able to make a very special and rare train catch. I heard on a not-to-be-named forum that a very old and rare locomotive would be at the Morristown & Erie shops for an overhaul. Know what it was? It was none other than an EMD BL2!!!!!
This unit was built as BAR 54, and is now Stourbridge Line (SBRR) 54, in tourist service on Pennsylvania. I doubt that many people (especially anyone my age) these days have seen a BL2, nevermind one that is operational! Now, I feel a sudden urge to model this baby...
Now, I'm SERIOUSLY going to catch up. For real. Legit.
WOO-HOO!!! Got the little lady down to the raw brass today. Took about six applications of Jasco and about three baths in linseed oil, but she's happily soaking in a bath of vinegar, hot water and Palmolive dish soap for an hour or two right now.
Got the boiler and tender done, still have to do the front cylinder deck and rear cylinders. I'm not going to take THOSE apart--just very CAREFULLY apply the paint thinner and linseed oil (no plastic, so I can just kinda/sorta 'dip' it while I use the toothbrush to get the gunk off). I just don't want to have to re-connect all of that eccentric gear back into the cyinders--this baby has more eccentric gears than almost any other articulated I've ever seen. Actually, I was surprised at how easy she was to get into to remove the boiler. Four screws and--wham! Lifted right off.
So I'll let her 'cure' for a couple of days, then start the Great Re-Painting Project.
Oh, BTW, Jim: She WAS HO after all, LOL! But OMYGAW was that paint thick! It lifted up in SHEETS!
While her boiler was off, I did a couple of minor adjustments to her running gear--and ran her in some more. She's going to be a sweetie, but whoever owned her before removed the boiler weight, so I'll have to get out some lead sheeting and do a little re-balancing inside the boiler. Right now, she'd be a little 'light' for the grades on the Yuba River Sub. Now that I've finally gotten into her, she's been through the MILL! I'm sure grateful to Bob Zimmerman at Caboose Hobbies for working her drive train before he sent her out.
So when she's all put back together, I'll post pictures. With all of the paint off, she's just cute as a button! Those 3400's were the Rio Grande's "little" 2-8-8-2's, and had a TON of 'character'.

Good evening gents, I see that Fergie and Duke must have here along with Ed as my BD cake is all gone.
8F here now under the full Wolf moon, and wind chill is -6F, the NW winds blew hard all night and all day and still are hitting 20 to 30 in gusts. Wind chill on top of Mt. Washington is currently -60F . You dont stay outside long in that weather.
Got more work done on layout, table 2' extension built, 2" foam glued down, now I have to lay the foam riser for the loop track from the adjacent room layout.
TODD: No more carrying foam boards for me on windy days, I thought I was going to go airborne.
JERRY: Nice job on the Caboose !!! Very well done !!
Anyone heard from Oregon Sue lately ?
Later guys,
A bowl of chili, please & thanks.
Rain/sleet/ice here tonight into tomorrow. Got some gas for the generator, just incase.
Caught two CSX trains in town today. Two medium-large locos moving a smattering of mixed freight by the textile factory while two BIG diesels hauling loaded coal cars slowly passed through with horns blaring.
Enjoyed browsing through the new MRR mag today. Sure wish I could win a Lottery, as there are more trains I would dearly like to have. Isn't that always the case though?
Good evening ....
I completed my F3 B-unit and it is now in WPF.
Vincent asked yesterday if CB&Q F-units lasted into the BN merger. I'm not certain, but I think none of the CB&Q were still in the fleet when the merger took place about 1970. In the 1960's the CB&Q traded its F-units in for second generation units such as GP20's, GP30's, GP35's and GP40's.
It's snowing here. So far it is not enough to keep me from going out in the truck for a while. Cheers, everybody.

That just might do the trick. Though on the other hand----it just might set him off on the other direction He does sound a liiiiittle out of sorts doesn't he?
aaaahhh! the glorious sun is out----although that usually is associated with bitter CCCCOLD and raw winds. Oh well---another week of CCCOLD is ahead of us
I've got a few parts placed around for the coop that will grace the central part of Anson. I'm going to do some "datamining" tonight on some image banks to come up with some workable ideas from them as well.
Chloe, I'll just have a coffee for now---I'll be at the corner booth ---warming up
jeffrey-wimberly It's a balmy 50 here. It might make it up to 55
I'll take it. You can keep the T-storms though. I don't want to be greedy.
Afternoon. The Church's grill is out of the garage thereby removing any excuse I have for not cleaning up the area for Brenda's car to resume it's rightful place.
Lee- Exactly my thinking. You know, maybe the people planning this project should have a panel of people like us (all of us) to come up with ideas based on reality. Like you said I believe if they made packages similar to what people do with parking, monthly weekly etc, with a bit of tweaking I bet the rail service would at least be self sufficient. I don't see how they feel that just having it will make people use it.
Jerry- You must've taken the picture from 2 feet away. Looks pretty good to me.
