I seem to have an interesting one here------my IE will have that box pop up telling me that it stopped working and when I click the X in the upper right of the dialog box---ever't'in' be workin' jus' fine------Smile

Evening again. Zoe, I'll take a RBF, thanks.

Yeah Sam, I'm fine. Nothing this time, but thanks for asking. I had a bad one back in lax season last year; that was awful...
And looking back a few posts, glad to hear the qualifying is going well!!

Keith, that's looking good! And sorry I forgot, but what scale is that?

Well, I'm still really tired, and I got that exam tomorrow, so, believe it or not, I'm actually gonna be hittin' it relatively soon...

Night!

Evening all, good news!  I now have a new power cord for the laptop, so this post is from home!  Not much else happening tonight, going to be watching some TV, messing around on here and if I can find the camera, getting some pictures of my rolling stock that I'm going to be willing to part with.  Well, guess I'm going to be finding some paint and decals for both the GP40-2 and the SD40-2.  Oh well, it makes for good practice.

I'll take a hot ham and cheese with a large RBF and plant myself here at the RC.

Evenin' folks!

Zoe, Boston Cream Pie and a cup of decafe and tell those guys to put away the new delivery system, I want to be able to eat the pie not wear it......

Barry, I have a 1Tb HD as a second drive in the G5, a 1Tb HD containing backup and all my AAIF files for DJing and a 500Gb backup for the G5 THAT doesn't want to start all the time..... I have just about given up on LaCie external HDs as this is the 3rd. one that has failed on me in 10 years or so......Whistling  Everything that was on the external is on the 1Tb second drive in the G5 now.  I have about 2.4 Tb of hard drive space here.  Should do me for a while I think. Big Smile

Trainman Sam
Ray- Hope everything has gone well with the transfer, to this point (if not complete)... I am still amazed by your flatcars, I don't think I could have done that.  I don't have enough patience to hand paint/stain each board.   Great job!

Transfer is complete.  All went well.  i have been sitting and fiddling with some stuff on the new computer.  Which is why I'm back over here at the G5, I am getting ready to export vCards over to the Mini so I can get the Address Book updated with addresses I have on this machine and not on the Laptop.  Thank you for your kind words about the Flat Cars.  One of these days I will get around to build some loads for them and finish weathering them.

Back to w**k!

Later

Here goes AGAIN...

Keith, loving the pics...  Wondering about your "Storage Tracks", are you going to have a specific track for each car?  I thought that if you used a magnetic dry erase board, you could have each "Liner" on its own little magnet, and thus know where all your stored Liners are at a glance.

Ray- Hope everything has gone well with the transfer, to this point (if not complete)... I am still amazed by your flatcars, I don't think I could have done that.  I don't have enough patience to hand paint/stain each board.   Great job!

Joe- Hope you are feeling alright?  Concusions can be tricky... stay safe!  Good luck getting answers for the centerbeam...

Barry- Sorry about the cream, I thought I got it all up...  I have a new name for the "Machine"

**Instant Ground-To-Air High Velocity Dessert Ejector**  What do you think?

Just don't tell Chloe, Flo, or Vinnie?!?!?!?! Thanks

Afternoon folks.... (almost evening, maybe it is....)

Chloe just a cup of decafe to warm me up a bit.  I'll be at the Rivet Counter for a few minutes at least.

Took the old 12" G4 antique laptop over to the Mac store and talked with the owner.  Explained what I had done to get it up an running.  he nodded his head in agreement for the process.  After I told him Disk Warrior couldn't find a Hard Drive.  He said, "Well.....  I can pretty much say that you have a dead HD if Warrior can't find it. Would have cost close to $400 for repairs if they indeed could fix it.  When Macs die, they DIE!  This one certainly doesn't owe me anything as it was used "on the road" for DJ for several years and is now very, very dated.  Looked over the "On Consignment" corner they have and didn't find anything THAT turned me on or would come close to fitting in the space I have for it.  There was a fairly new iMac for $575......  I took the plunge and bought a new entry level little tiny Mini Mac for $599.  Comes with 2 Gig of Ram (can support up to 4 Gigs of DDR3 SDRAM, 160 Gb HD, one Firewire 800 port and 5 USB 2.0 ports, Airport Extreme and Bluetooth, 8x slot loading Superdrive, and Mac OSX Snow Leopard preinstalled.  Also got a small wired keyboard (basically a laptop type of keyboard with no keypad) which will fit perfectly on the little table I have for the computer in the layout room.  By the time I left I was about $700 poorer, but hey its only money, right? Smile,Wink, & Grin

Right now I am transferring all the setup data, programs, and user data from my new laptop onto the Mini.  Sure makes it slick to get oit up and running.  I will have all my internet settings, photos, etc. all set on my Mini when I plug it in downstairs.  Only thing I won't have is one program I was using the old laptop for...... Softrack Inventory.  I will have to spend several hours retyping all the info for my Locos, cars, and such into the Mini.  Lucky i have the program itself on the G5 as the back-up and will be able to transfer the program at least so I won't have to pay for it again.

The data transfer is about 1/3 done.  has been going for about 45 minutes.  Since the Laptop doesn't have Firewire 800 and the Mini doesn't have Firewire 400, I have to use the Ethernet connection which even at 1000 Base T is slower......

Kieth I like what you have so far!  You are going to have a great layout there.

Jeff,  all your pics look so nice.  Now as far as 'google' hyjacking' my toolbar~  gheeesh.. I finally got it.  With Vista.. on the very top far right there is a black arrow.. wow.. that took some time.   Ok... I said I'd post a few pics with some liners on it.. so here it is.. lol.100_0646.jpg picture by Blazzin55

I must admit, one main idea that I wanted was to be able to pick up.. add to the line.. or drop off.. and take away freight.  I'm happy.100_0643.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Now this pic.. I hope says more.  But in the very back.. the line(s)  that go into the tin shed 'repair house'.. each line holds five liners deep inside the mountain.. for storage.    Thats it.   Keith

Afternoon guys. Chloe, can I get a bacon cheeseburger and some Dr. Pepper, please?

Geez, haven't been in in a while. Went to a friends on Friday, had a late game on Saturday, and tons of homework on Sunday.
We also had a game last night. I got ROCKED! Opened my eyes, had no clue where I was. "Ok, there's ice, so we must be at a game. Ok..." Actually, for the first time, I wasn't sure if I was even gonna get up (I've been hit A LOT, but never this bad...)... After getting up and back to the bench, I felt fine-- Or so I thought. After the game, I felt like crap. Got home, showered, and asleep at 9:30 (which NEVER happens). But I woke up this morning and felt fine (except for being extremely tired), so I guess that's good.

Got the first exam tomorrow-- band. The concert was 75% of the grade, and I already played the scales and stuff, so all I have left is the writing portion (yes, somehow, that actually exists in band...?)
And the "real" exams are next week. Monday is reading day, which is optional, Tuesday is algebra and spanish, Wednesday is theo and chem, and Thursday is history and english. Friday is makeups, so I'll be off, unless I miss a day.

In MRR news, I finally got to run my centerbeam for a while-- BUT. I took it out of the box, ran it for a bit, fine. Went to start painting it, since it will only need the numbering covered, since it's already green. After the paint is already on, I see it's broken. In the SAME PLACES as the first one. Yup, the ladders and the floor. So they're gonna get a call tomorrow afternoon... Can't send this one back now, but I'm gonna find out what's up with this...

I'll shut up for now...

 Afternoon folks.

Not too much is going on; school, friends, rugby, layout.

I have decided to swap out a switch, which I will probably do this weekend. the plan is to cut the old one out (the track is soldered and four joiners have feeder wires) and solder the new one into place. I'll hold it in place with track nails and then solder the rails to the old one. We'll see though.

Hey guys, sorry I didn't get INTO the diner earlier...  I was working out back  SWWWOOOOOSSSSHHHHH!!!!!THWAP!!!!OUCH!!!

Whipering in a hushed voice while cleaning off whipped cream: I have been working on a new device... "Instant Ground-To-Air High Velocity Full Edible Tray Machine"  (Highly technical description of "Pie Catapult") but SHHHH... Don't tell anyone, especially Chloe, or she'll have my head as a special!!!

Hey Chloe!  How are you today??? What was that noise?  Oh, nothing, just me attempting to fix an old machine I brought with me... NO, I'm afraid you can't see it...

Anyway, thanks for the compliments on the wedding photos... a lot of hard work went into the planning of it... MOST of it done by my beautiful bride!

Phillip- Sue and I will be praying for you guys...

Der- Thanks for the idea about the brackets being larger on the bottom to support the weight, I will definitely be using that theory here!

Ray- I sometimes forget that very important bit of knowledge!!!Duh

BTW... "WHAT is your FAVORITE COLOR?"   "UM, Blue. NO! I mean Yellow!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhh.......lol

I had a good day today, got my eight hours in at w*rk...  my qualifying partner and I have found a couple of good engineers to ride along with.  They quiz us on the territory, so that should help quite a bit!

Jeff- Just goes to show you that some people just haven't got the correct wiring in their heads to connect what few braincells they have left!!!  Although, it seems he knows how to draw a crowd! LOL

NittanyLion-  Good luck on the layout!  Please take photos and share, if possible???  I always like seeing other peoples layouts coming together!

Which reminds me... I told my wife that I am glad we ordered the SW1500, as it is a sound equipped loco (my first one)... She got this crinkled look on her face and said "Uh-Oh... what have I done???"  To which I responded that I wanted to upgrade my DCC control from the Bachman EZ-Command to Digitrax Zephyr.  She said that sounded like a good idea!!!

Well, I'll be in the corner booth, if not there I'll be out back again... Got some net surfin' to do, gonna find me a Zephyr and reel it in!!!

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I have been running the electric ice dam melters on the roof during the last couple of days to open up a path for water as the snow melts.
I have to do it the old fashioned way, with a roof rake and I am glad it was the light powdery stuff.

I checked with some places this morning that do the kind of mechanical work I need done. So many places these days 'specialize' which translates to ridiculous prices. The two lowest (least ridiculous) were for $680 and $470. Naturally I'm going with the lower one. They say they'll be able to get to it Thursday. They insist on using all new parts an dI agree with them. I used a rebuilt master cylinder last time and here it's failed about a year later. Also went to see the foot doc this morning. The wound is down to 5 mm in depth, the swelling is gone and there;s no heat. All indications that the antibiotics are doing their job. Until my car is back on the road I'm having to use my father's old F150. It doesn't have the equipment that my car has so it's a bit more difficult to drive but I'll manage. I'm very tired today so I don't see much else getting done.

Afternoon ya'll

Found out why the AC isn't working right. The guy who had the car before me cut the vacuum line to the AC reserve canister. I keep getting cars that have been worked on by people who don't know what they are doing...

Bama, I though about getting a few of the bachmann SD40-2s, I figure it'd run pretty well since I had several FT that were good runners. My only issues with the BN ones is that they numbers on the long hood are too big, and the roadname and logo under the cab is too small; I would get several if I knew how to do decal work, because the athearn, kato, and BLI ones get expensive. I will give them kudos for getting the paint scheme and trim right; something that even Atlas, BLI, P2K, Athearn Genesis, and Kato keep messing up on.

But Ray, you DO know a lot.....

Thank your sir!  But I think THAT depends on who you talk to......Whistling  (Got told by someone in a forum across the street that I am only a 'Music Teacher' so I don't know anything about something I have been doing professionally for 15 years.......  I'm not even going to respond to him. Not worth it.... Made the mistake of offering a suggestion on monitor settings.  My first teaching job had a sign in the main office saying, "When arguing with an idiot, make sure he is not similarly occupied". Wink

Zoe I'll have a bowl of tomato soup and a toasted cheese sandwich.  Guess a Dr. Pepper would go nicely.

I'm about out the door to drive over to Victor to the Mac Store.  I tried resetting the PRAM to see if THAT would reset the system.  No dice still the "blue screen of death with the flashing question mark....  maybe they can do something to get it back in operation.  I'm thinking that I must have left it on and then shut down everything in the train room and in the process screwed up the old laptop royally.  We shall see.Sigh

When I get back home, I can spend most of the rest of the day with the layout.  (THAT would be nice!)

What I'm about to say might finally earn me a spot at the RC, so here goes.  As all of you know I recently ordered a SD40-2.  Well, I've been doing a little looking and it turns out that the engine # stamped on the cab and number boards does not coincide with the actual engine its representing!  The locomotive I've got is #'ed as CSX 8217.  I've done a little research, the REAL 8217 IS a SD40-2, however; it is a former SBD SD unit with a nose light and a jack-style hand brake....meanwhile my SD40-2 has a cab mounted headlight and a nose mounted brake wheel, which means its probably of CR heritage, and the #'ing would be correct for a CSX 88xx series engine.  So it appears that I might be breaking out some microscale decals and some paint because it also appears that most of the CSX SD40-2 fleet has been painted in the current YN3 paint scheme as compared to the YN2 scheme that model was delivered as.

Wheew!  I'm glad I've got that off my chest!  Even with the inaccuracy in the paint and #'ing on the model I am very pleased with its operation and would honestly buy another one.  I know some people aren't happy with Bachmann stuff, I can say that this one is a good one.

And as for lunch, I'll be happy to take a double bacon double cheese double burger with a large RBF and a side of fries.  I'll still be at the window booth watching the comings and goings for a few minutes here before I head off to w**k

Mornin' everyone!

Getting in here a bit late this morning, but been busy with other things.  Zoe just a cup of dark roast in a FGLK mug, Please and Thanks.  I'll be in the front booth watching all the activity outside.

PC, you and yours are in my prayers.  Hope your wife has a smooth surgery and a quick recovery.

It's 22°F outside the window right now with a high today of 20°F.  yep, that's what the weather.com perdicimucation is for today....  have a few little white things falling around out there, but nothing of any concern. I have been running the electric ice dam melters on the roof during the last couple of days to open up a path for water as the snow melts.  Hopefully it will protect the roof and prevent damage.....

Called the local Mac place (one of 2 in the Rochester Area) and she said, "Bring it in for service".  I'm hoping they can get the old girl back running for me as the little things fits perfectly on a small table next to wo*kbench.  The only thing I have been using it for is a program called Softrack Inventory.  I was hoping to download Decoder Pro, etc. from JMRI soon as well.  Time will tell.

Somebody asked, I think, about the "wood" floor on the flat cars.....  The only spray painting was the original coat of black (Testors flat black in the rattle can - didn't want to do all the fuss of getting the airbrush hooked up, make 4 quick passes on the cars, tear down the airbrush and spent 10 times as long as it took to paint cleaning the brush....  Got lazy, but it came out well.).  The boards are all hand painting with the 0/10 angled brush.  the boards protude slightly over the side of the car so it is easy to hit the board sides with the brush.  Only making done was to cover up the king pin area on the body.

Hope all of you have a great day!

Good morning all,

Fire department had to come out to my neighbor’s house yesterday. He was trying to burn vinyl flooring and wood in his burn barrel.  I was caller #8 to complain about my eyes burning from the smoke oh and him burning trash in his back yard.  For a new neighbor he really is getting to know everybody in town.  You would think with police and fire showing up at his house every day for three days straight the guy would get a clue.  Fire Marshall’s office said if they get one more call they will have the housing inspector show up and inspect the house from top to bottom and cite him for the barrel.

 Good Afternoon

it was a slippery and slidin´ drive back from the GULAG, where I again learned -  you guessed it - nothing.

I spend most of the time in this forum, "flooding" it with posts.

Flo, some hot chocolate, beefed up a little with a swig out of Vinnie´s secret bottle, please - you are a darling!

I must be suffering from an illness we call cognitive dissonance - I can´t just make up my mind, which way I should be heading. My Dutch friend Paul has come up with some new ideas on a different type of layout which are just - simply spoken - extraordinary fantastic. Too early to post these ideas, but I am sure they will make Chris sell all of his HO gear immediately. For those of you who have a spare room of 9 by 11 - beware - there is something in the pipeline for you that will make you gasp!

PC - the candle will be up in the Chapel car for your wife.

I thought of asking Petra to make a supply of her award winning apple crumble pies, but she told me she´d do it only when Barry and Todd give up thrashing them around with that catapult ... Big Smile Hmmh, that makes me think - how could she know without reading the posts in here. I wonder if she had read about that blonde I was writing about recently - Petra? No, I won´t do it again - ouch!!!

May drop in again a little later!

Morning all from my FIL's house.  Flo, an order of buttermilk pancakes with a side of bacon please ma'am.  Not much happening this morning, waiting to head off to w**k at 11:30, so I figured that I'd come in for a spell.  The weather is improving here, sunny, and a little warmer, high is supposed to be to in the low 40s, and we expect to see mid 50s by week's end (thank goodness!).

So far I've converted seven cars over to knuckle couplers, and I'm just happy happy happy about it, its so much easier to have them on trains as compared to having the old horn-hooks.....  I still have to nip off the talgo couplers on my older LL and Tyco stuff, so it may wait until I actually get some Kadee couplers and coupler boxes to be able to do the job "properly".  I'm also looking for a bit so I can drill a pilot hole to mount a 2-56 screw in for one of the couplers on my BB GP40-2, as it seems I've lost the original couper pocket cover (I've got one for the rear of the locomotive and I've converted it over already, just don't/can't find the other).  Anyone have any suggestions on what size bit to use?

I see breakfast coming towards me, so I guess I'm going to hang out in the window booth and see what comes by.  BTW, around what year did high brake wheels and roofwalks get outlawed and what was done to cars so that they would still be "legal"?

Good morning.  Its finally warmong up this way.  Alittle snow this morning, but some sun seems to be coming out.

Not much planned today.  Maybe clean up the house, and work some on the layout.  Might touch up some painting on the legs.

Jeff......Hope you get your car going again.  Maybe a junk yard will have your part and the mechanic might cut you a deal.  Since you will have what you need to get your car fixed (from the junk yard).

Hope everybody has a good morning.

Good MorningSmile

Got up a little later than we usually do. Nice and sunny out here and getting a little milder as well---which is always a good thing----might help in lowering the amount of snowcover around here

Ulrich: With Todd one really never quite knows what he's up to------Whistling

Todd: Which elevator are you doing stuff at? Seems like you are going all over the place there!Smile

PC:  We've got your wife on our prayer list---talked to our minister this morning to put your wife and your family on the church list as well. The vids are inspiring----I agree with Todd about the bulldog description--

Welp. Since we are getting sun today I'm going out and doing some walking around--go up to the mall and do some nosing about for some stuff and then maybe get some photos scanned into the 'pooter.Smile

Chloe, I'll just have a coffee this mornig please---I'm going to set by the RC fer a spell--Smile

Good Morning. French Toast and real maple syrup please. Oh yes Coffee and a slice of Kentucky ham thank you. Make it a thick one.

Sam- Looks like you had a beautiful wedding.

PC- I am so praying for success on the bypass surgery. Checked out a couple of the vids and they made me even more so behind her. She seems wonderful. ( I love the description of the Bulldog ha ha!)

Well, not much in the way of activities planned for today. Unload the truck at about 10:30 stop at the elevator to get a possible update as to what I should be doing, then I do believe I may go visit my Mother. See how she's doing. But until then, I think I'll do a bit of "training".

(sluuurp) Aaaagh!! Yuuck! I meant the ham thick, not the COFFEE!

Have a Great Day!!!

Mornin' all!

It's finally starting to warm up around here today. We hit our highest temp of the year so far yesterday........27 degrees! WooHoo! (I know.....big deal!) Well, it's a whopping 27 degrees now, but it's supposed to hold steady all day. Looks like we might see 40 later this week though.

Didn't get a thing done on the layout yesterday, and this evening doesn't look good either. I have band practice. Oh well, maybe later.

So, the wife is going in for surgery again. This time it's not for her muscular dystrophy. Nope.......she's having gastric bypass surgery. We've been in the program for a little over a year, and next Tuesday is the day. She's tried every diet out there and she can't lose weight. It's a real problem with her MD, so she's taking the plunge. And yeah, we've heard all the horror stories. We've also met all the successes. Shoot, two of her family members have already done it a couple of years ago. Myself, I'm cautiously optimistic. I just wish it was reversable, ya know? I case there's problems or something. But it's what she wants. If you want to follow along, search YouTube for WinndysWorld and you should find her video blog.

Oh well, time to go and make the donuts!
