Afternoon everybody.  I've been in the basment most of the day.  So I thought I would add some shots of what I've been working on.

Just added my switch house, and a yard office.  I also painted the lower part of the layout black.  It looks a bit better than wood.

 Enjoy the shots!!!!!!!!!

Afternoon All...

Keith...I just read your post..I havn't had much to say lately but I always enjoy stop'in here..I model in N scale since my wife and I moved to a small apartment about 9 years ago..I built a 4 by 8 and two larger HO layouts over the years..my layout is 40 inches by 24 inches with a sliding fiddle yard on top of it..

I am disabled now but was in broadcasting for 27 years..I was morning DJ on a small [250 watt clear channel] station for most of that time..I am married with 6 kids all grown and 13 real swell Grand babys..I live in a small town in East Central Illinois just off Hi way 70..

I like your pool ball display idea..what scale are you modeling?...How long have you been at it?

Cox, I've been waiting for you to drop in for some time.  You like JOe, seem rather quiet.  Although, I'm a pretty good guesser.. I'd say you just have to open up a bit and then we'll all know what I've been guessing... that you're a fun person.  So tell me what have you been up to.. lets say.. your layout.. HO, N?  Is it just a small thing.. you've been building on for years?  Tell me about yourself.. where'd ya grow up.  What kind of younger life did you have?  Were you in love with trains then?  Ok just wanted to say Hi~  AS for me~  I've taken a break.. I needed some incentive.  I hung a pool ball rack case in the wall.  I'm using it for display, my cheapest way of buying a display case.. only 30 bucks.  Waht a deal.  I'm just tired of seeing these things wrapped up.. and getting destroyed.. (well almost) .. the plastic seems to bend things. 100_0241.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Yeah I know.. I left the plastic on.  The reason?  Living in southern CA .. well its earthquake country.  I forget who told me (here at the diner) .. a while back.. but they lived in Sylmar during the early 70's .. well who ever that was.. they were saying the were here for the big one.. or was it the Northridge.  In either case.. the Northridge only lasted 20 seconds but was a whopping 6.7... or you could have the minute long earthquake of Sylmar.. that was a 6.6.  But anyways.... if you don't nail down the stuff on the walls.. it falls down.  So after I place anything on the walls, after the usual typical hanging.. I have to place 'finish' nails  on top and bottom to hold things in place. Or should I say 'Lock' them in place.  Earthquakes are sometimes not what you think.. the shaking trembling thingy... some are more like straightening out a bed sheet.. and you flick it... to take out the wrinkles.  Yep.. a rolling type action.. where everything is picked up.. and flicked.  Darnest thing you've ever seen .. if you never been in one.   I believe the Sylmar was a 6 foot shift. (2 meters)  So, here I am nailing it in place with the plastic on.. so the hammer and finish nails don't scratch the wood.  Now.. where are those trucks and cars I wanted to put in there~

It's currently 61 here with lots of rain. I'm just sitting back watching movies today. Already watched 'The Game', 'End of Days', 'Night train to Munich' and 'Dirty Harry'. Just watching a four part series now called 'Faces of Earth'. Meanwhile, the rain continues to fall and the area is under a flash flood watch. I'm not too worried about it up here on my hill top but the two roads out both cross low land areas that are prone to flooding. The lake level is still about 10-12 feet down and the flood gates are open so there's not much danger of the lake front areas getting flooding unless it's by a bunch of ditch water.

 Afternoon everyone!

Chloe I'll have a Dr. Pepper and a couple of those Butterscotch cookies if there are any left.

The team is here to judge the layout.  I got kicked out of the room.  I will know what is up in a bit.

Nice sunny Fall day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 58°F, the high for the day.  The low tonight will be about 43°F with a few showers possible tomorrow.

Coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.

Temp will hit around 70 today, so opened up the train room windows. Doesn't hurt to air it out once in a while.

Have a good day all.

Joe... " Although I don't model the NJCL, railfanning NJT in general really helps with modeling it!!

Its been great Joe watching.  So many ideas .. I never really knew.  It wasn't too long ago when my wife reminded me of the only thing I was watching for Ideas was the game (my sons left me their Playstation)... GTA San Andreas .. lol.  And if you don't know what that means.. Don't ask.

Is it wet? No, it is WET!

Spend most of the day in bed - my whole body is just one big pain! Zoe, I need some hot chocolate as well, that stuff is supposed to make happy!

No, it is not a cold or swine flu, it is just that my body is reacting to the situation we are in - I guess it is a mental thing. Just not a good sport today.

It is not contageous, so you all have a good one.

I don't need anymore coffee.. I talk to much.  Another cold wet foggy morning.

Sue.. I there I've seen you a few times here.  Just wanted to say Hi!.. after reading your post .. all I can say is.  "Plummet Zone"  Its a word that has stayed with me since I started reading up on MR.  Just the thought of a U.P. Big Boy going right over the edge is enough to make anyone have nightmares.  Anyone have ideas or pics concerning 'Plummet Zones'?

Mornin' everyone!

Just poppin' in for a quick Raisin Bran Muffin with lots of butter and a cup of dark roast coffee in a R&GV mug.  Thanks Zoe!

I have 3 hours to get everything ready for the gang coming to the house today.  Just got a call from my son in Chicago confirming that he is coming home for Thanksgiving.  Looks Like I will have a houseful for the day, nine people at least.

BTW I have a cordless phone, Jim, I just don't keep it in that room.......... Whistling  Seldom use the cordless as i have trouble understanding people with it.  The wired one by my computer and the wired one down cellar I can more or less hear on, but the cordless???? I got rid of the cell phone completely.  Can't see any reason to pay money to a company I don't like to have something I didn't use for at least 2 and a half years...............

OK, best get a move on....  Later!

Jim,

The fortunate part of the train wreck was that the car didn't fall off the layout. Larry thinks that some of the longer cars might need more weight.  One more thing to study.

We had two trains traveling in the same direction; we stepped out of the room for a couple of seconds; and oops.

Good morning.  Another new week Banged Head

I didn't do much layout work this weekend, but I did move a turnout for the yard thou.  Thats about it for the layout.  I haven't been doing much weathering either.  Mostly just my stuff, finally!!

Jim......The trees aren't hard to do.  I just wish I could make other kinds.

Sawyer.....That will be a good game next week.  The Steelers are on a bye week.  Hopefully they will show that game here.

Lee.......I thought the Browns would be better than they are this year.  My buddy back in NC is a "die hard" browns fan, and he gets pretty mad when I pick on the team.  One time I bought him a magnet that said "Number one Steelers fan...Danny".  Well when I gave it to him (in a bar/resturant). He slung it across the room, and then took it home and melted it Laugh.

I guess I will hop off.  Have a good one.

 Good morning.

It's 57 and cloudy. The high should be in the mid 60's and there's a chance of rain.

There's nothing on my schedule today except rest, so naturally everyone will think of reasons that I shouldn't get any. My intention today is just to lay back and watch some old movies and stay off my feet for a while. I got the trash out yesterday so that's one less thing to worry about.

Yeah. He said there's an intermittent short in the circuitry somewhere that's causing the unit to act up. Personally I like the other description better.

Hello ...

Chris ... Nice to meet the "artist". Impressive work she does! ...... The pix of the Chicago Central reminds me of my firend here who retired from ICRR where he was loco engineer. He was working in Iowa during the CC era and could have operated that engine.

Ulrich ... I really enjoyed the pix of your old layout. Very nice modeling! Glad you liked the bison photo.

Jim CG ... Mom is still with me here. I'll be headed back to AL soon. Not sure exactlty.

Yes, the bison herd is a few minutes from here.

There is a FUNNY STORY about the bison. It is true!

Shelley's sister was here with her husband and went went to see the buffalo. Shelley had borrowed her boss's Lincoln and we drove it. The herd had the road blocked and we waited.

Along came the bull. He was huge!. It was a mega buffalo!  He walked up to a big rock and used it to scratch his private parts as we waited for.maybe 15 minutes as he did that. (Road still blocked by the herd).

Next, the bull had finally relieved his itch and walked toward the Lincoln. All of the windows were down. He went to the passenger side with my brother-in-law in front and Shelley in the back.

He got right next to the car and looked at us with the giant head. His eyeballs were enormous!

Next.. (This really happened). The bull sneezed. Large globs of buffalo snot went all over the side of the lincoln. ...The bull slimed us!

I am glad to say his nose was pointed down just enough to keep the snot from entering the open windows. Close Call!

That's our bullalo adventure.

Shelley never did explain to her boss what was the "dirt" on his car side. Teh boss had one of the workers take the car in for a wash. (Now Shelley is retired)

You make think it is funny but it's snot!

Been rather busy with HD's and other things so I haven't done much other than peek in the window a few times to stay caught up and type responses in word until I get caught up. Which is easier said than done around here.

Jim- Thanks for the direction towards the 34 ft passenger car kits. My problem is I don't know if there is a more accurate name for the cars other than "34 ft passenger coach". So far it has worked as I have found several references to the cars.

Colesdad- Jeff is a great example of the use of EZ Track. I also think Tom has used it in places too. Both can show you that it is not a kids toy track like some would have you believe.

Ray played soccer in school? I didn't think the game was that old. Ooops! Did I say that out loud? ShockLaugh By the way, I like your new stove. And the walls. Oh and the floor. Well, I like your kitchen. What's for supper?

Jeff- Glad to hear the dentist went well. The story wasn't bad either.

I see there is a new addition to the family. Congratulations Garry.

Rob- I'm sorry for your loss of Lorenzo. As most have already said, a pet is only a pet to someone who doesn't have one. To those that do, they are family.

The last page or two have been skimmed through so  I HOPE I have not missed something important such as a loss or a delightful gain to someones family. I did notice someone finally got a picture of Barry's Pie-a- pault so now I'm off the hook. A nice red loco, Ulrich's nice looking layout, Robbys good looking trees, some scrumptious looking cookies, and though I just glanced at the picture, I figured Chris would look a bit more manly. Nice stocking cap though (he he) Anyway, Hopefully I'll be able to stay caught up but for now, my eyes are very heavy.

Gotta go, the radar is going off signaling a possible invasion of Toddland (of which I'm king) from space. Hmmm. What? Looks more like one of those covers that comes on a Harbor Freight Airbrush. Oh well gotta keep an eye on it.

Good evening, Flo? how's about a hot fudge sundae please 'n thank you....yup, with a cup of coffee in the CNW Iowa Div. mug.

JIM: Thanks! I'll be sure to let Loving Wife, AKA: "Kit" (somehow, that's short for Catherine...don't ask me, six years and I still don't understand...) know how much you appreciate her tallent.

Here's a shot of the artist at w**k. She hand-drew each and every illustration using colored pencils. If I remember right, the process took about 2 years.

The day she was w**king on the final illustration, we had a power outage. Nothing like a freezing cold day turning to night, and losing electricity. Well, she bundled up, and I attached a firefighting flashlight for her to soldier-on by.

I think the candidates forum ended up around 14-1500. THAT editor will squawk, maybe drop one of the three questions (ten answers vs. fifteen), or she may just run the whole thing. I never know how it's going to play out. Then again, I'd rather give her too much stuff to w**k with than not enough. It's easier to chop an article down to size rather than try to stretch one to fill the space.

I actually got some RR stuff done this weekend: paint w**k progression in the RR room (using what I've still got on-hand and getting stuff out of the way before purchasing paint/lumber, and building/installing more brackets), finishing the XTRA grain hoppers and dullcoting (tripple-checked the can this time...) them and a few other cars which have been sitting and waiting. I even shot a primer coat on the GP40-1.5 I started some months back. The Harbor Freight airbrush again impressed me. I fired a test blast, it was PERFECT! It took me more time to clean it up than it did to shoot the locomotive. I still have no idea where the protective cap for it went...might be in orbit somewhere. I know it was NOT launched at Toddland. The primer coat (Floquil reefer white) will have plenty of time to dry and cure. I have just enough thinner left to prep the CNW yellow paint (original English Stagecoach Yellow for this one). I do not have enough to clean out the brush when I'm done. So...one more thing on the list for the next Walthers order.

Time to settle in at the RC and yield the floor. Hey Flo? did the cordless ever get put in the...ah..."facility?" You never know when nature and somebody important will both call right?? Shock

Evening, Flo - I'll try coming in again and hope the forum's software doesn't hiccup on me like yesterday... Oh, I'll have an oatmeal raisin cookie and a CAW mug of coffee, please 'n' thank you, Ma'am!

I was out this afternoon because I was trying to finish up the track (re-)laying. Not quite all through, but here (in red) are the only remaining tracks I need to re-lay:

I do still have some feeders to solder/re-do (have been using the Atlas terminal joiners, with plan to solder them to the track), and one wire detached from the joiner, but those shouldn't be too hard to do. Will drill some holes for the feeder wires this week (likely Wed. or Thurs. evening), but almost ready to clean/weather the track and then run the main wire busses and connect the feeders to those.

Robby, looks like those trees are pretty quick w**k, as many as you finished (in not a lot of time). Thumbs Up

Ray, the stove looks like it belongs there (as well it should)! Wink That thing about the phone ringing at...um.. inopportune times, can be taken care of by getting a cordless phone, you know...?Confused

Rob, sorry to learn of your losing Lorenzo, and AngelAngel for Luigi to live longer than you or the vet expect (and to heal from losing his buddy). It's hard to lose a member of the family (four or two footed, either one). And thank your lucky stars that your wife didn't find anything in the flyer she liked (and hope it stays that way until at least the next flyer...)Wink I can about always find something I could sorta justify getting (but don't always get it)... I don't blame on not wanting a med's side effects to be worse than what it's supposed to be treating. Thumbs Down Talk to your doctor about more sensible medicine and treatment, I'd say.

Keith, thanks for posting the Chili Verde recipe. Now, after seeing some of the ingredients (and having had a bout with diverticulitis previously), I'll have to debate about how much I may need to modify it...Oops

Chris - in my post the forum software ate yesterday, I had said (and will again now) that Chris' illustrative style is head and shoulders above a lot of children's books I've seen. Please pass along my Thumbs Up to her, if you would. Hey, how many words did you whittle the council meeting down to? Under THAT editor's limit? Whistling

Dang, Joe! I not only missed Mole Day, I didn't even get a card for it (and now I know that Todd'll be getting on my case for that, too!)Oops That is kind cool that somebody thought to make it its own holiday - now, if I could have them move it to a Monday and if I could get them to observe it at w**k (fat chance of that...Sigh).

blownout cylinder
Isn't the computer such a wonderful thing? It offers us all kinds of randomness for our viewing pleasure---Grumpy

Yeah, Barry, innit? Especially the forum software... (Okay, don't want to be raising my blood pressure...) And do you have enough water in the yard for your R/C submarines? Wow!!Laugh Hey, on that scratched car, I'd suspect: 1) if owned by a guy, ex-girlfriend (or current girlfriend's ex-boyfriend, or 2) if owned by a girl, (just reverse the genders on #1)... At least, I've heard of stuff like that in some places around here once in a while.

Vincent, sorry to hear about your car, but look into the one your Dad emailed you about. Glad to hear that you didn't wind up in the hospital out of that accident. Watch out for the guy who was fine at first coming back to your insurance company later, claiming 'whiplash'. Rather odd how people somehow find out they have problems that they never knew they had right after an accident. Whistling And dang, but your family does a good job of recycling car parts, don't they? Wow!!Thumbs Up That, and better mileage, too!

Ray, now that I got to see those cookies, I'll have one a couple of those, too!Dinner Best wishes on your judging tomorrow (the cookies might be helpful for that... Smile,Wink, & Grin), and do post a photo of that yardmaster's office after you get it home. Who'll be making the kit?

Jeff, since I use a Mac, I'd probably be using Tex-Edit Plus, but then again, it's been a long while since I had the forum software pull its trick on me, and I got sorta complacent. Right now, i'm just copying my entire post after each paragraph (to the clipboard), since I've never had the forum software freeze up or crash my Mac (so far....) Hey, did your techie give you the plain English for that jargon "totally whacked out"? Smile,Wink, & Grin

Actually, on the Google thing, most of the other search engines try to track your stuff too (Yahoo, Ask, others). But I have AdBlock Plus and NoScript (add-ons for Firefox), so until I turn a script or cookies on, they are by default off. There's a setting in Google where you can tell it to not track your searches for any length of time. (And I won't get into the conspiracy stuff about it doesn't matter since the NSA can watch us all...Alien) If you want better security/control of your browsing, Firefox is a much better route than Internet Explorer, anyway. My My 2 cents

Garry, nice photo of the bison cow there (and that's close by your place?). Have you taken your Mom back to Alabama by now?

Ulrich, over here, we get to reset our clocks next weekend (to 'standard' time, except for everyone in Arizona, where they don't do Daylight Savings Time at all..). And in honor of that, I'll give you a certain somebody's take on the time thing:

Ah, I see you got a photo of Barry's catapult (or is that Todd's? I never can tell the two apart)... Whistling I would agree with the others - you have a good eye with your photography. And good to put a face with the posts/poster. Yeah!!

Lee -- yep, you probably don't want another colddddd-d-d-d-d-d winter (like last year's), do you? Wink Oh, I followed up on that tip you emailed me and ordered some (or maybe the last) of Athearn BB kits. Got two undecorated 50' AAR boxcars, couple of SP ones, two D&RGW flats (40' and 50'), some figures, and I think that's about it.

Trainman Sam - good to see you in the Diner once again. Oops, look like he's got his nose buried in those manuals - fifteen different locos? Sheesh! Can't they make their minds up what to get for that RR? Wink Best wishes on learning all the stuff you need to know, Sam.

Sue - I hope you don't have plain ol' concrete floors under that corner where the passenger car took the wrong turn...ShockOops That can be nasty at best, and disastrous if there's no cushioning on the floor. I hate to think what a drop from my layout would be like (my mains are about 52" off floor level - yeah, I like close to eye level...)

Didn't get much else done today, between ripping some CDs I bought yesterday (including MercyMe's "10" CD/DVD album, B.B. King's "Deuces Wild", and a Rich Mullins CD), the trackw**k I mentioned earlier, and trying to see if any of my matches on eHarmony (it's free communication weekend) wrote back (only one so far, so waiting on her reply to my reply, etc....).

About time to head for home before the forum software bumps my post out the door like yesterday. Prayers for those missing loved ones, favorite layouts, those in need of healing, and those needing comfort (all those might cover about all of us).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good evening, Chloe.  I will have hot cider, please.

Hope that everyong had a great weekend.  We started cleaning the garage for my annual wreath party.

The passenger train had a wreck.  One car did not make the corner.  oops.

What's nice is a bunch of the parts will work for a 79-04 mustang. I just don't know what's with me and always getting a RED mustang, the cops are going to still be following me like crazy....

My favorite car was a 1968 Mustang that had a somewhat slightly modified 429CJ in it for motive power.Whistling This thing was painted a triple black colour and had the requisite slapper bars underneath---hence the police always were VERY aware of where I was going...MischiefWhistling

Maybe it had something to do with its volume and the propensity I had for burnouts----and, yes Virginia, it was legally raced at a couple of local dragstrips back in the dayWhistling

Any argument carried far enough will end up in Semantics--Hartz's law of rhetoric Emerald. Leemer and Southern The route of the Sceptre Express Barry

I just started my blog site...more stuff to come...

Evening all. Janie, I'll take a RBF, thanks.

Thanks Keith! Although I don't model the NJCL, railfanning NJT in general really helps with modeling it!!
Hey Sam, what's up!! Haven't seen you in a while!

Trainman Sam
ALP 44 O, E, & M; ALP 46 (both the 44's and 46's are electric which have their own issues); MP-20B-3 (switcher deisel); GP40-2 (non passenger); GP40-2, GP40-2Cat, F40PH-2, F40PH-2Cat, GP40-PH-2, GP40FH-2, P40BH, PL42AC; ARROW III's

That sure is a lot to learn!! Are there really that many differences between the Os, Es, and Ms that you need to know about each one? I though the Os and Es were almost identical internally, and the designations just differentiated between the orders.
And what's a GP40-2CAT? Big Smile Also, are there major differences between the ex-CNJ geeps (4100-4112), GP40PH-2s (4146-4150, aka PH-2As), and -2Bs, or are they all essentially the same??
And why F40PH-2s, if they were rebuilt as -2CATs over 10 years ago? Confused Sorry if I ask too many questions, I'm just a curious guy!

Ugh, tomorrow's Monday...

I'll be chillen in the back.

EDIT: Looks like I got TOP. Eat up!!

Evening Folks!

Zoe I just need a cup of decafe for now.  I ate too many of those Butterscotch cookies today.  Took a bunch of them out to the train crew at the museum.

Had another great day playing on train crew, although according to the grandson of the Grandson of the conductor (who was car host in the other caboose), I made enough mistakes today on the crew to have me banned from the museum for a year......Whistling  I started out by not properly IDing myself while checking out the radio I was using....  Got a lecture from the engineer.  Then did a couple other no, nos and got caught by the other car host.   The kid is a great young man who I enjoy working with.  That said, he had a great time telling eberything I did wrong.  Actually I don't mind in the least as that is how I will learn, and it could save my life working around the trains.  Tough to be around a 16 year old that knows more about operations than I do.........

First thing That happened after I signed in for Train Crew, is the conductor who is a fantastic model railroader and is the person in charge of the team coming to my house tomorrow to do the Merit Judging waves me over and says, "Ray I've got something for you".  This gentleman is well known for his plans for scratch building models and has been published hundreds of times.  In his car in a box, he had a model of the The Yard Masters Office from Sodus Point, NY.  He had the plans he drew picked up by a Laser Kit Manufacturer and had to build one in HO for them from the finished kit and take photos for the kit.  Earlier this summer he asked me what the color scheme of the SLOW was and told me what he had planned.  It is an absolutely gorgeous little building.  Since he models in "O" scale, he had no use for it on his layout.  He made me promise that I won't put it on the part of the layout to be judged until after they do the judging.  Wink  Having him give that to me sure made my day!!!  I'll do a photo of it later.

Tomorrow is the big day for the Seneca Lake, Ontario, & Western RR.  Hopefully everything is "up to snuff" and ready.  I will either be a very happy camper by this time tomorrow, or at least know what needs to be done get it where I want it to be.  I can honestly say that I have learned a great deal doing this Certificate...........  (I plan to bribe, er thank the judges with some of the cookies.......  and lots of dark roast coffee.)  I know 2 of the 3 people that will be on the team and know that they will do an honest and helpful job with it.  I hope that I will get some suggestions to help with the next 2/3rds of the layout that still needs to be done.

OK, I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter and try to relax and listen to someone else talk for a while.

BTW, Ulrich, that is a beautiful layout you had.  Glad at least you have the memories of putting such a masterpiece together and will again be building a layout soon!

Hey guys.

I got most of the parts out of my old car today. All that's left to pull out is the transmission, exhaust, and starter. I'll be doing my end of the paper work for the 1990 (when I said 88, I was wrong. But it's the same year and color as my father's mustang, and both 25th anniversery ones, just mine will have half as many cylinders.)  mustang. Then I'll pick it up on Wendsday and put the other stuff from the old car into it. What's nice is a bunch of the parts will work for a 79-04 mustang. I just don't know what's with me and always getting a RED mustang, the cops are going to still be following me like crazy....

Last night I put together some old MDC and BB kits. pics later.

Sawyer, I heard some of the game while I was in the garage. Hoping the Packers make it 2 losses in a row for the vikqueens.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
