I'm in such a good mood right now...
I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited!!!!!! I got a 94, which means I only got 3 wrong. You need at least an 80 to pass (there are 50 questions, you can get 10 wrong), and if you get above a 90 (which I did), you can get a discount on your insurance.However, this is useless to me until I turn 16 in June. I have to do 6 hours if instructed driving before I get my permit (the road test is for your license). But it just feels good just to get it off my chest.My class was the first to take it, and I got nervous because there were none that passed, and I wasn't sure if mine was graded yet. But when I found out I was fine, I was so excited. In my class, there were only 3 of us (me included) that passed. In all the other classes most people passed, just showing how, um, "smart" my class is... There were four tests, and I got Test 1 (they're totally random), which apparently is the easiest. Oh well.

LSWrrNext weekend I have to empty my grandmothers apartment as we have already moved her into a nursing home, any advice?
I'm sorry to hear she has to go to a nursing home Lee. As far as her stuff goes, I have been moving and clearing out my Mothers home that I grew up in for coming up on 2 years now. She has gone from a family home to an apartment in Springfield. It is a daunting task. I hope you have help in making decisions. My suggestion is, and I hope this doesn't come out sounding wrong, get your siblings if you have any and your Grandmother and parents together and work out what each wants. That way since she will be moving to a place were she can have almost nothing, nothing will be given or sold that will cause hard feelings or disappointment later. Garage sales and E-bay are fine for the rest but sometimes good ole Goodwill is easiest and with the writeoff can almost be just as profitable for the trouble.
The type written word sounds colder than I intend for it too, but it's something I'm dealing with right now. What my sister and her daughter, grandkids etc "may" want. It's taking forever and as it's starting to wind down not getting any easier.

Had to get up a bit early this morning and go to see the vampire phlebotomist for my semi annual blood w**k. When I arrived I expected to have standing room only, but to my surprise the place was empty. I looked at the receptionist, then looked around the room and said, "OK, I'll come back later...." Got done with the draw and headed down to a local diner in Geneva called "Water St. Cafe". Place is run by a lady whose kids I taught and her son was one of my Scouts years ago. I looked in the window and there was not a seat to be had. I decided to go to the post office and come back later. I mailed a couple of items to Canada to the AP Chairman of my Division NMRA. This was all the photos (CD) and the written paperw**k forms, etc. for the Scenery Certificate. Had to fill out the Customs form over at the desk with circles and arrows and information about my honesty..... I thought for sure they would make me sit on the bench marked "Group W".... But after I gave the lady at the window a few pictures of some dead presidents she gave some other pictures of dead presidents back and a reciept and said, Have a nice day..." Went back to the diner... This time there was no parking spots within a mile or so and it still appeared to be SRO as I looked in the window. So I decided since I was right there nearby I would pop into the Drug Store and pick up an Rx they had all ready for me. Didn't have enough pictures of dead presidents by that time to use so I gave her a plastic card with a bunch of numbers on it. This time I found a parking spot almost in front of the place, found an empty booth in the back and had my usual #2 special that I have after blood draws.... This is the popular old fashioned diner in town and is often frequented by the likes of Doctors, lawyers, bankers, and stockbrokers. Lucky today the clientele was much, much better consisting of some very nice older folks, a table full of bag ladies, and some college kids.
The rest of today, I have to carve some pumpkins for All Hallows Eve (that's the evening before All Saints Day you know), get my allergy shots, and buy a bunch of candy to feed the little monsters kids when they knock on my door tomorrow night. I need to order some decals today for the flat cars. I may go over to one of the big wholesale stores nearby, stand in the Christmas/holiday section and wait for a bunch of little old ladies to show up. Then look at the Christmas decorations, then at them, then at the decorations, and say, Holy S*** is it Halloween already!" It's an annual tradition......

Lee, Thanks for the input. I decided to go with the Poly Scale water soluble. I've never worked with an Airbrush and the water soluble seemed more forgivable. The mixing of the colors shall be a pure delight for me.
Ulrich, one of those pics showed a nice color of the steal supports. It seemed like a flat gray primmer with a hint of blue. Lots of things to study in those pics. I owe you one~ As a young boy, I remember the street cars of Los Angeles. Rode them up til about age 10. And I am planning on running a trolley through two of the towns. On a side note; my wife grew up in a very small town, in which there was a 'Mule Car'. A trolley.. that rode down the middle of mainstreet with green grass dividers on both sides. Supposidly the first in City Planning, considering its date. The town of Upland would be at the very top / end of the trolley run. Where the foothills start up into the mountains.
And there was a Mule Car running. Gravity fed, the mule only pulled up the hill. On the way back, the mule rode the trolley car down the hill, built with a special platform was made for the mule. Yeah, we've been walking a lot, and also I've been hitting every rough spot in the road whenever I can. Chloe, I think I'll have an order of biscuits and gravy, with a side of sausage. Today is going to be a gray day... 40% chance of rain and thunderstorms, with chances increasing as the day goes into tomorrow. I know that we need the rain, but sheesh, I'm tire of it getting rainy, turning cool, then going back to 80-degree days, only to rain again. Its playing absolute heck with my sinuses. Well, today is a slow day for me, don't have to go to w**k until 4 this afternoon, so I think I'm going to just laze around the house, I did plenty yesterday for fun, including going and buying the new Tinkerbell movie (Heather absolutely LOVES Tink), and last night it got watched a total of 5 times back-to-back. I had to go into the bedroom and take over the bedroom tv so I could watch something else. Funny thing is, at least Tinkerbell will put Heather out like a light. One minute she's in her PJ's watching tv, next thing I know, she's curled up on the couch completely out like a light! Oh well, at least it was easy last night.
Well, that's all I know, so I'm going to be poking around in here for a while until later...unless I get told "its time" by Amy.....

Well, this morning the weather folks said some areas west of lovely Cape G. reported getting 5 inches of rain last night... Yep, a ducky day in store for us, all right. I've already adopted my 'flood' driving - avoid cutting through the park where the car flooded out (several months to a year ago), avoiding lower spots in the roads where water might build up.
Sawyer - ALL RIGHTY!! Congratulations to you (and the rest of the team, I'm sure you had a bit of help, right? ). That's the way to wind up a season,

Laundry tonight (hope the rain lets up when I am coming out to get back home), and then on-call for 24 hours tomorrow a.m. I may get the remaining two tracks re-laid before the %$^* pager decides to go off (I hope I can). Can't plan a lot more - may see if the new MR is at the P.O. Box yet.

Good morning. It's 55 and very, very wet. The high will be around the mid 60's and it will continue to be very wet.I got my new DVR (replacement for the old one) hooked up last night and got it all programmed despite frequent interruptions by the heavy rains blacking out the satellite signal. The most maddening part of the process was getting the unit activated. I called the number supplied with the paperwork and got a tech (definitely not in the US) who had a very pronounced accent that really threw my hearing problem (aphasia) for a loop. I had to have him slow way down so I could understand what he was saying. He got the idea and spoke more slowly and now I could understand him. Before his voice was just a meaningless ramble of scrambled sounds. I gave him the info he needed to activate the receiver and had the unit up and running in about ten minutes. All I had to do now was set up my favorites list and enter the shows I wanted recorded. I had written all this down before disconnecting the old unit, a lesson I learned the hard way many years ago. It took about an hour, twice the amount of time it should have but again the heavy rain was proving to be a problem. Eventually everything was set up and ready to go. The very first show to be recorded was 'Voyages' on History International. The program was 'Trains Unlimited - Circus Trains'.Today will be a somewhat busy day. Gotta go out and pay bills and get the groceries. Also got the home health nurse coming around noon.

Hey ya'll. Ain't been in in a while, so I'm catching up.

I brought the new car home Wensday. The battery is bad (I have a few extra one laying around, so I'm charging one) in it so we had to start it by pushing it and popping the clutch. I looked at the tripometer and gas gauge when it was home It read half a tank (6 gallons) and 221 miles, or 36.833.... mpg ; which is about a 12 mpg improvment (not to mention insurance is 10 bucks less). Not to bad for a 20 year old car. Although it's a bit over 1 second slower than the last car was at the 1/8th mile, I do plan to make some adjustments in the future to fix that by either putting a turbo on the 4-cylinder that's in it, or putting in a 5.0 302 V8 in it.
It does need to be cleaned up and could stand to be re-painted; but It's nothing I can't fix. Piant shouldn't be as expensive as the last car would have been since it's just a normal gloss red, as opposed to a gloss, metallic, and pearilising candy apple red.

BlazzinJeff, Jeanne looked at Target to find Non Acetone nail remover.. couldn’t find any. I should have tried at the hobby store while I was there.
Keith, that glue comes in a plastic bottle with blue print, about $3 each. You can also fill in small cracks and create window glazing with it. I use a yellow or green micro brush to apply it. Sets in about 10 minutes, dries in about 20. For a good brick color look at the paints sold in the craft stores, typically they are the same as poly-scale paints except cheaper and you have several awesome brick colors to choose from. I would look at a dark earth and mix it with sienna until you hit the brick color you want. Remember bricks came in different colors, so if there is a good separation between build dates for your buildings there would have been a definite change in hue between the bricks. Some people forget when they model an addition that the addition will be close, but will not match the original structure.

streetcars are a quite popular means of public transport in Germany. After a decline in the 1960´s, they saw a boost in the late 1970´s, which is still ongoing. You can go all the way from Bonn to Dortmund by streetcar, that´s a ride of more than 120 miles, covering 7 major German cities with a total population of 18 million people.

I saw where somebody is taking their driver's test today...good luck! Hey, keep in mind: flashing lights and sirens mean MOVE RIGHT and STOP. I can't tell you how maddening it is to be on a response and have idiots who simply will not pull over...who are oblivious to the big red fire engine right behind them. If it's not some moron on their phone, or texting..., it's some dumbcluck who has their "system" cranked up to where we can FEEL the bass in our unit! Makes me really want a top-mount .50 cal. some days... Keep your "system" to where you can hear things like sirens and train horns. USE the rear view mirror, frequently.

I should also say "thank you" to the UPRR. They have a rail grinder out tonight on the Clinton Sub. He's w**king on curves. With near-constant rain all day long, and still raining right now, he won't be lighting up any ditches or fields on me.
I've forgotten who it was that was asking about CP Rail red, and having trouble presumably with rattle cans. A little late now, but white works good under red. I also recall a Paint Shop feature (no longer a part of MR) where a candy apple red SOO Line SD-60 was the subject. The guy primed the loco with silver under the red. Looked sharp! I'd probably use Floquil's caboose red. I just used a rattle can of it a month or so ago on a Chicago Central caboose...sprayed just fine. The trouble is, it is really tempting and easy, to apply too much too soon. When they say "many light coats," they mean it. I really, really recommend the Harbor Freight airbrush and compressor...might even be on sale again. Cheaper than the name brands, but I love it.
Speaking of paint, hey KEITH: that's quite the paint grouping you've got there. I think I can safely speak for the group when I say we want pictures, frequent updates of how the depot and the glass train shed thing from Germany turns out.
TODD: Well, I looked at the latest city council minutes from Solon. It says: "with the town growing more people were complaining about burning (leafs)." City folk moving to the small town. Crimenently... It's like they're saying "I don't care if YOU've lived here for 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 years or more. I'M here now...and I don't want to smell burning leafs. Deal with it."

I buy this kit. Looks fairly easy. My gosh.. its brick red.. and a brown roof. I open it up and what do I see~ The plastic colors are two colors.. brown and red. You guessed it, well they got the colors mixed up. To me, I would have rather seen my bricks red.. instead of brown. And the red roof.. OMg... you'd think they could get it right.. well its a 50-50 shot to me. Just one word came to me ... Ninkuhmpoops!

But in truth, aside from looking nice. I saw it on one of the 'Harry Potter Movies' .. the train station had one of those over-head glass thingy stations. But in truth, I haven't a clue as to .. how it goes .. next to the station / over the tracks and so on.. sure And / how or where to in-corporate it next to this station.. lol. I know, I know.. enough to make most seasoned modeler's shudder. But what do you think.. next to this station? Since you and I are both up anyways? lol.

To assemble it you just need regular plastic cement - the liquid kind with a needle applicator should do the job perfectly. The correct color of the steel girders would be a dark, silverish gray.
Well my friend I went out and bought two kinds of silver.. of the water base sort. Since its water color.. I would like to think .. you could mix and match your own colors. Maybe add some blue to go with the silver? Or green~ both!
Btw, my wife has fallen in love with your dog - she just adores Huskies!
Shes my sweetie.. the huskie too! That particular color is called a 'Copper' somewhat rare, identified by the markings on the nose. But usually the hair is much red/orange. Her mother was pure white, and the father was a white silver brow (very wild looking) Huskies carry on a conversation with you. When I was told of their traits, I didn't believe it. But they don't take no for an answer. They will bow wow for the next 5 mins sitting there talking with you, on why you should let them have another treat.. or go outside. I have to let her out during the day.. esp during summer. Huskies can take the heat.. only if they get a chance to cool off each night. And they generally don't drink water during the hot day... but at night she loads up with tons of water. I've been told its all part of their system to survive in the wild. I also didn't know Huskies really don't bark.. they are basically quiet. On a personal note; she even says "I Love You" in her bow wow growl manner. its pretty funny if you never heard it before. "Jeanne~ Is that our dog saying "I Love you'~ to the neighbors dog?"

Sawyer - congrats on that soccer championship . When I attended Highschool in the 1970´s, no one was interested in soccer, so times must have changed quite a bit. In Europe, it is still the no. 1 sport, also in school.
ns3010 - I´ll keep my fingers crossed for that driving permit - I got mine 36 years ago and I still have it. "Washington State Learner´s Permit" it says.... The license I got two weeks later, after passing the driving test - a 10 minute drive! Since then, I must have driven over a million miles...

Lee, Thank you for your input. . “For glue I highly reccomend Microscale Krystal klear”… I shall get some tomorrow. I just came back from the Hobby Store and .. forgot the Krytal Klear glue. Bought all kinds of paint though. Had a real blast and ended up with the Poly Scale Paint..Water Soluble
Engine Black, Railroad Tie Brown, Concrete color, Roof Brown,
Flat Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Oxide Red (Santa Fe Brick building color?) Box Car Red (very similar to oxide Red),
Pullman Green , which reminds me of an oxidized copper green color, perhaps mix some other colors to get a better copper green, aged Concrete color, ATSF Red, Oily Black.. looks like a very dark charcoal
.. and recommended by the owner.. she likes using.. Zinc Chrome Primer.. for brick buildings and one bottle of Rust color. And one spray can of Dullcote. Whew, I can’t wait.
The pic of the Santa Fe Train Station... the brick is what color? .. Oxide Red? or.. Zinc Chrome Primmer? Good thing this is water soluble.
Jeff, Jeanne looked at Target to find Non Acetone nail remover.. couldn’t find any. I should have tried at the hobby store while I was there. Jeff, glad to hear everything is going fine. Although I think it was Joe.. or Jerry who said .. ah.. Maybe just try some thinner.. or something.. just sitting there.. and try to soften it. I’ve got some time.~ Ok.. I feel good, funny thing about a full stomach.. its never lasting .. I will hunger again. Its such a false eurphoric feeling.
Good late evening all...still no new baby yet. Amy's extra miserable able the whole thing. She was due back on Tuesday, so we're waiting patiently. Just a RBF for me, been doing a whole lot of things here recently. I did two side jobs today, all in all it put $100 in my pocket, so I can't complain for three hours worth of w**k. Will probably go and w**k on the house tomorrow, still have to get the flooring down in the master bedroom, and also still got some painting to do in there, but we'll see how things go. Amy seems to think that Mikayla is going to be here within the next day (she's been feeling a few contractions, but nothing consistent), so I'll be on a wait and see.
Sorry that I haven't been able to get in here like I normally am, but things have been hectic. The signals are still getting set up at the crossings here in Troy, looks like at least lights, but probably lights and arms. Been getting more traffic through too, dunno if the signals are in preparation for regularly increased traffic, or just something in the plans for a while. Welp, that's about it for me, going to hit the sack in a moment and get a little shut eye.
And it appears that I have the TOP, so y'all eat up, I've got it to spare!

Gee, Keith, who'da thunk it? Where else but the Diner could one get free medical and health info (NOT to be confused with medical advice Mr. AMA monitor, nope, Keith meant NOTHING of the sort!) Hey, now that you've cleaned the O scale bird poop off that roof, will you be weathering it? On that kit, I can only say, paint the supporting structure first, BEFORE adding the 'glass' (of course), and be VERY sparing on whatever type of adhesive you use. I'll let those who know more fill in the dots for us.
Jerry, I forget which station it was, but when I was growing up in St. Louis area we had one station that was a Clear Channel station - I think it was out of our area (WLS in Chicago?) that came in fine after dark. Of course back then, some stations also shut down at nightfall, too. (Geesh - am I showing my age, or what?) Sounds like you're getting your motive power whooped into shape for hauling, eh?
Tom (Wright), I wish we had a station around here that had that kind of radio. There are a few good ones, but Itend to get bored with just one kind after a few weeks, so I usually have some CDs in the car and will switch over to those (or burn my own mixture CD on the 'puter).
Chuck, I may have missed your post about Kathy passing (I sorta recall the fire, but you know how memory can go...), but I am glad to hear you're doing okay currently. I think I'd probably lose most all of my layout if I had a fire, since I have probably 95 percent of the structures or more, are made of plastic. I like Iain Rice's plans - can you post a picture of the plan somehow? Good that you have some four-footed company with you.

Barry, for my cleanup, it'd take a weekend... or two, since I have stuff in the living room under the layout, some stuff on the dining room table, and a bunch of stuff around the bedroom walls (except I have to get into the closet for my clothes, of course). Looks from your list like you found a bonanza in there!
Oh, FYI, Diners - it's been pouring down about half of today. Later tonight, we're supposed to have part 2, with flood warnings (ground is supersaturated and we have at least another 4-6 inches due of that stuff that Keith thinks we all should get plenty of... (I'd rather just drink mine, thanks!). The weather predilection today was for "100 percent chance of rain today and tonight, and 90 percent tomorrow night."So those of you east of me, better load up your arks!

Lee - don't they have a 'do not call' list in Ohio? I'm on both the Missouri one and the national list as well. You can probably find the Ohio one online if they have one (plus the national one), and you just need to call those numbers from each phone you want listed as "DO NOT CALL". Then if any telemarketer calls you, you just politely ask them what company they're calling for, and then inform them you're on the DNC list (if you like, you can turn the company in if they call a second time after that). Cuts down the dinnertime annoyance calls... On the apartment cleanup, I'd say it depends on whether she has all the stuff she wants (or that she's giving to any of the kids). For the other non-keepable stuff, you could either put it in storage for a limited time in case someone in the family may change their mind and want something, or just rent a big enough dumpster. Other suggestions? (I'm a bit of a packrat, so you might re-consider some of what I just wrote...) Oh, and I'm waiting for your folks there to file a complaint against any seagulls for all their noise (and poop...).

Robby - on the SuperTrees, I'll warn you that making them gets kinda messy (I think I'm okay on the TM for 'messy'..). When we did them we had papers spread across the garage/shed floor under where we hung the trees after dipping them in - I think it was - dilute white glue or matte medium. But the results can be really nice.
