Good morning. It's 47 and clear. The high is expected to be in the mid 70's with some clouds. The Dish Network service call yesterday was rescheduled due to the tech having a family emergency, something with which I can identify. He's now scheduled to show up sometime this morning between 9 and noon. If he has to change out the DVR unit I'll most likely lose the programs stored in it. If so I'll just have to record others and hope I can catch some reruns.

ULRICH: Nice pics, wish I had some clever and comforting words to say about the pain you feel in seeing something again, that had to be sold-off. All I can tell you, is I know the feeling. I've done it too. Oh, and THAT editor seems to be particularly fond of banishing THAT word, but, I met another reporter at a writer's workshop I was sentenced to...her editor has also banished THAT word. Odd, we're supposed to use "AP (Associated Press) style," and their writers use THAT a lot. Hmmmmmm. I don't know, I just play by her rules. I would prefer to just be a photojournalist: fancy high-falootin' name for a news photographer. But, since I didn't go to journalism school...I'm pretty much doomed to small town weekly papers, where ya gotta do everything.

SAWYER: I'll echo those who spoke yesterday about the coolness of red locomotives with white lettering. I'm kinda fond of the look as well.
Today, I "should" deploy some caulk/weatherproofing stuff around the house. I'll listen to the race at least until the low-power AM station gets over-powered by static and/or some Mexican station. I might slap a little more paint around in the RR room. I can either wait for Loving Wife to use her sign painter's skills and tallents to do some fine edge w**k for me, or I can see if I can cobble together an edger of my own to keep progress rolling...even if only at a snail's pace.

The Dish Network tech came by and looked at my DVR receiver and tested it and agreed that is does have some severe issues. For one thing it did it's little trick of powering off the TV2 mode then bringing it back on right when he was looking at it. He said that was really strange. He then tried doing an update through the phone connection but the unit wouldn't dial out. It would say it was dialing out and it would say that it connected but that was as far as it would get. From there it would either lock up or terminate the call, both of which it's clearly not supposed to do. To put it in the techs technical terminology, "This thing is totally whacked". So they'll be sending me a new one via UPS in about a week at the latest. Sending the old one back is easy. The new one will have a pre-addressed prepaid label with it so all I have to do is put the old unit in the box, put the label on it and send it to them.

I have been busy, the section of training I am currently in with NJ Transit is all about troubleshooting. So to that end, we have had to learn each piece of equipment first! This wouldn't be so hard except for the fact that NJ Transit has 5 different types of passenger cars (Comet II Rebuilds, Comet III's, Comet IV's, Comet V's, and Multi-Levels) not including the Cab-Cars for each (except the Comet II rebuilds, they are only coaches). Then you have the Locomotives: ALP 44 O, E, & M; ALP 46 (both the 44's and 46's are electric which have their own issues); MP-20B-3 (switcher deisel); GP40-2 (non passenger); GP40-2, GP40-2Cat, F40PH-2, F40PH-2Cat, GP40-PH-2, GP40FH-2, P40BH, PL42AC; ARROW III's (electric MU's) That is 15 different types of locos to have to trouble shoot... exhausting when you have to be qualified to operate each piece of equipement!!!

I figured out it's the BP meds that is keeping my heart rate high. What good is that? Just ordered L-Arginine & L-Citrulline for a more sensible approach. Will also look into chelation therapy. I have no intention of staying on prescription drugs with bad side effects that do not deal with the root cause of a problem.

I got most of the parts out of my old car today. All that's left to pull out is the transmission, exhaust, and starter. I'll be doing my end of the paper work for the 1990 (when I said 88, I was wrong. But it's the same year and color as my father's mustang, and both 25th anniversery ones, just mine will have half as many cylinders.) mustang. Then I'll pick it up on Wendsday and put the other stuff from the old car into it. What's nice is a bunch of the parts will work for a 79-04 mustang. I just don't know what's with me and always getting a RED mustang, the cops are going to still be following me like crazy....

Zoe I just need a cup of decafe for now. I ate too many of those Butterscotch cookies today. Took a bunch of them out to the train crew at the museum.
Had another great day playing on train crew, although according to the grandson of the Grandson of the conductor (who was car host in the other caboose), I made enough mistakes today on the crew to have me banned from the museum for a year...... I started out by not properly IDing myself while checking out the radio I was using.... Got a lecture from the engineer. Then did a couple other no, nos and got caught by the other car host. The kid is a great young man who I enjoy working with. That said, he had a great time telling eberything I did wrong. Actually I don't mind in the least as that is how I will learn, and it could save my life working around the trains. Tough to be around a 16 year old that knows more about operations than I do.........
First thing That happened after I signed in for Train Crew, is the conductor who is a fantastic model railroader and is the person in charge of the team coming to my house tomorrow to do the Merit Judging waves me over and says, "Ray I've got something for you". This gentleman is well known for his plans for scratch building models and has been published hundreds of times. In his car in a box, he had a model of the The Yard Masters Office from Sodus Point, NY. He had the plans he drew picked up by a Laser Kit Manufacturer and had to build one in HO for them from the finished kit and take photos for the kit. Earlier this summer he asked me what the color scheme of the SLOW was and told me what he had planned. It is an absolutely gorgeous little building. Since he models in "O" scale, he had no use for it on his layout. He made me promise that I won't put it on the part of the layout to be judged until after they do the judging. Having him give that to me sure made my day!!! I'll do a photo of it later.
Tomorrow is the big day for the Seneca Lake, Ontario, & Western RR. Hopefully everything is "up to snuff" and ready. I will either be a very happy camper by this time tomorrow, or at least know what needs to be done get it where I want it to be. I can honestly say that I have learned a great deal doing this Certificate........... (I plan to bribe, er thank the judges with some of the cookies....... and lots of dark roast coffee.) I know 2 of the 3 people that will be on the team and know that they will do an honest and helpful job with it. I hope that I will get some suggestions to help with the next 2/3rds of the layout that still needs to be done.
OK, I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter and try to relax and listen to someone else talk for a while.
BTW, Ulrich, that is a beautiful layout you had. Glad at least you have the memories of putting such a masterpiece together and will again be building a layout soon!

My favorite car was a 1968 Mustang that had a somewhat slightly modified 429CJ in it for motive power. This thing was painted a triple black colour and had the requisite slapper bars underneath---hence the police always were VERY aware of where I was going...
Maybe it had something to do with its volume and the propensity I had for burnouts----and, yes Virginia, it was legally raced at a couple of local dragstrips back in the day

I do still have some feeders to solder/re-do (have been using the Atlas terminal joiners, with plan to solder them to the track), and one wire detached from the joiner, but those shouldn't be too hard to do. Will drill some holes for the feeder wires this week (likely Wed. or Thurs. evening), but almost ready to clean/weather the track and then run the main wire busses and connect the feeders to those.
Robby, looks like those trees are pretty quick w**k, as many as you finished (in not a lot of time).
Ray, the stove looks like it belongs there (as well it should)! That thing about the phone ringing at...um.. inopportune times, can be taken care of by getting a cordless phone, you know...?
Rob, sorry to learn of your losing Lorenzo, and for Luigi to live longer than you or the vet expect (and to heal from losing his buddy). It's hard to lose a member of the family (four or two footed, either one). And thank your lucky stars that your wife didn't find anything in the flyer she liked (and hope it stays that way until at least the next flyer...) I can about always find something I could sorta justify getting (but don't always get it)... I don't blame on not wanting a med's side effects to be worse than what it's supposed to be treating. Talk to your doctor about more sensible medicine and treatment, I'd say.

Actually, on the Google thing, most of the other search engines try to track your stuff too (Yahoo, Ask, others). But I have AdBlock Plus and NoScript (add-ons for Firefox), so until I turn a script or cookies on, they are by default off. There's a setting in Google where you can tell it to not track your searches for any length of time. (And I won't get into the conspiracy stuff about it doesn't matter since the NSA can watch us all...) If you want better security/control of your browsing, Firefox is a much better route than Internet Explorer, anyway. My

Sue - I hope you don't have plain ol' concrete floors under that corner where the passenger car took the wrong turn... That can be nasty at best, and disastrous if there's no cushioning on the floor. I hate to think what a drop from my layout would be like (my mains are about 52" off floor level - yeah, I like close to eye level...)
Didn't get much else done today, between ripping some CDs I bought yesterday (including MercyMe's "10" CD/DVD album, B.B. King's "Deuces Wild", and a Rich Mullins CD), the trackw**k I mentioned earlier, and trying to see if any of my matches on eHarmony (it's free communication weekend) wrote back (only one so far, so waiting on her reply to my reply, etc....).
About time to head for home before the forum software bumps my post out the door like yesterday. Prayers for those missing loved ones, favorite layouts, those in need of healing, and those needing comfort (all those might cover about all of us).

JIM: Thanks! I'll be sure to let Loving Wife, AKA: "Kit" (somehow, that's short for Catherine...don't ask me, six years and I still don't understand...) know how much you appreciate her tallent.
Here's a shot of the artist at w**k. She hand-drew each and every illustration using colored pencils. If I remember right, the process took about 2 years.
The day she was w**king on the final illustration, we had a power outage. Nothing like a freezing cold day turning to night, and losing electricity. Well, she bundled up, and I attached a firefighting flashlight for her to soldier-on by.
I think the candidates forum ended up around 14-1500. THAT editor will squawk, maybe drop one of the three questions (ten answers vs. fifteen), or she may just run the whole thing. I never know how it's going to play out. Then again, I'd rather give her too much stuff to w**k with than not enough. It's easier to chop an article down to size rather than try to stretch one to fill the space.
I actually got some RR stuff done this weekend: paint w**k progression in the RR room (using what I've still got on-hand and getting stuff out of the way before purchasing paint/lumber, and building/installing more brackets), finishing the XTRA grain hoppers and dullcoting (tripple-checked the can this time...) them and a few other cars which have been sitting and waiting. I even shot a primer coat on the GP40-1.5 I started some months back. The Harbor Freight airbrush again impressed me. I fired a test blast, it was PERFECT! It took me more time to clean it up than it did to shoot the locomotive. I still have no idea where the protective cap for it went...might be in orbit somewhere. I know it was NOT launched at Toddland. The primer coat (Floquil reefer white) will have plenty of time to dry and cure. I have just enough thinner left to prep the CNW yellow paint (original English Stagecoach Yellow for this one). I do not have enough to clean out the brush when I'm done. So...one more thing on the list for the next Walthers order.
Time to settle in at the RC and yield the floor. Hey Flo? did the cordless ever get put in the...ah..."facility?" You never know when nature and somebody important will both call right??

Been rather busy with HD's and other things so I haven't done much other than peek in the window a few times to stay caught up and type responses in word until I get caught up. Which is easier said than done around here.
Jim- Thanks for the direction towards the 34 ft passenger car kits. My problem is I don't know if there is a more accurate name for the cars other than "34 ft passenger coach". So far it has worked as I have found several references to the cars.
Colesdad- Jeff is a great example of the use of EZ Track. I also think Tom has used it in places too. Both can show you that it is not a kids toy track like some would have you believe.

The last page or two have been skimmed through so I HOPE I have not missed something important such as a loss or a delightful gain to someones family. I did notice someone finally got a picture of Barry's Pie-a- pault so now I'm off the hook. A nice red loco, Ulrich's nice looking layout, Robbys good looking trees, some scrumptious looking cookies, and though I just glanced at the picture, I figured Chris would look a bit more manly. Nice stocking cap though (he he) Anyway, Hopefully I'll be able to stay caught up but for now, my eyes are very heavy.
Gotta go, the radar is going off signaling a possible invasion of Toddland (of which I'm king) from space. Hmmm. What? Looks more like one of those covers that comes on a Harbor Freight Airbrush. Oh well gotta keep an eye on it.

There is a FUNNY STORY about the bison. It is true!
Shelley's sister was here with her husband and went went to see the buffalo. Shelley had borrowed her boss's Lincoln and we drove it. The herd had the road blocked and we waited.
Along came the bull. He was huge!. It was a mega buffalo! He walked up to a big rock and used it to scratch his private parts as we waited for.maybe 15 minutes as he did that. (Road still blocked by the herd).
Next, the bull had finally relieved his itch and walked toward the Lincoln. All of the windows were down. He went to the passenger side with my brother-in-law in front and Shelley in the back.
He got right next to the car and looked at us with the giant head. His eyeballs were enormous!
Next.. (This really happened). The bull sneezed. Large globs of buffalo snot went all over the side of the lincoln. ...The bull slimed us!
I am glad to say his nose was pointed down just enough to keep the snot from entering the open windows. Close Call!
That's our bullalo adventure.
Shelley never did explain to her boss what was the "dirt" on his car side. Teh boss had one of the workers take the car in for a wash. (Now Shelley is retired)

One time I bought him a magnet that said "Number one Steelers fan...Danny". Well when I gave it to him (in a bar/resturant). He slung it across the room, and then took it home and melted it .

The fortunate part of the train wreck was that the car didn't fall off the layout. Larry thinks that some of the longer cars might need more weight. One more thing to study.
We had two trains traveling in the same direction; we stepped out of the room for a couple of seconds; and oops.

I have 3 hours to get everything ready for the gang coming to the house today. Just got a call from my son in Chicago confirming that he is coming home for Thanksgiving. Looks Like I will have a houseful for the day, nine people at least.
BTW I have a cordless phone, Jim, I just don't keep it in that room.......... Seldom use the cordless as i have trouble understanding people with it. The wired one by my computer and the wired one down cellar I can more or less hear on, but the cordless???? I got rid of the cell phone completely. Can't see any reason to pay money to a company I don't like to have something I didn't use for at least 2 and a half years...............

Sue.. I there I've seen you a few times here. Just wanted to say Hi!.. after reading your post .. all I can say is. "Plummet Zone" Its a word that has stayed with me since I started reading up on MR. Just the thought of a U.P. Big Boy going right over the edge is enough to make anyone have nightmares. Anyone have ideas or pics concerning 'Plummet Zones'?
