Wohoo! Rock on man, UP GP40Xs are my favorite Geeps! That 9000 would rock, too.

Jay,

Please don't "mange". You'll need to clean the inside of that gorgeous $1,000 loco before you even get it on the track [:D]

Okay, here's mine!

For $1000 dollars, I would want:

In HO scale-
A Union Pacific "Steamotive" turbine-
In my own Scott Squad paint scheme-
With extreme super detailing-
A detailed cab interior, complete with people-
And underbody detail-
With an accurate sound system-
At least two speakers-
And all wheel drive-
Who can forget, having every light work as it should-
Driven by two motors-
With an installed DCC decoder-
And remote couplers-
Smooth low speed-
AND COMPLETELY METAL!

That's my fantasy![:D]

No single locomotive is worth that much, no matter how super it is. If I were to pick a locomotive is would be of a Southern Pacific AC-11 or DMIR M-3. Sound, all wheel pick up, metal boiler/chassie, bright headlight, crew in the cab, blackend wheels & running gear. Ya know, the works. I'd pay up to $500 and thats it.

I would buy a Queensland Rail 2800 Class locomotive or a 4000 Class or a 3100/3200 class electric or a 3900 class electiric. All in brass, with an extremely powerful 5 pole motor, extreme super detailing, all lights working, all wheel pickup, DCC, sound which has been recorded from the real thing.

Yea, right. I'm gonna spend $1,000 for ONE danged locomotive? Is that sucker going to run any better than something I can get from Kato for $100?

Spending that much on one locomotive is a sign from God that you've got too freakin' much money!!

Before you guys belly ache about HO, You guys had better take a look at LARGE SCALE, the average freaking price is over $200 per engine, with new models hitting the $1000 + range is getting common....

USA 4-6-4 Hudson....$1600 / $1800 w/ sound
USA GG1...$1200 list
MTH Big BOY...$1200 list
MTH Challenger ...$1200 list
Accucraft C16...$1500 elect / $2200 live steam
Accucraft K27 ...$2600 elect / $3500 live steam

How about an LGB F7 A unit..$500

but USA's F3 A unit is only a paltry $140

If I would buy a $1000.00 dollar locomotive it would be a live steam version of the Southern Pacific "Daylight".

My loco would be an R-32 subway car. But 1000? actually, if it were brass, it would be worth it if all the details were in place. But honestly, i am in the process of building one to scale from scratch out of styrene and so far i have spent about 5% of that, with impressive results. ......its just taking some time

I suspect I'm dittoing what everyone else here has said when I say that $1000 is too steep, regardless the level of perfection.

Realistically I could probably hunt down brass GP39-2s (ATSF version) and have them custom painted for less than that.

And the CFO would be deeply unhappy with me if I did....

I need 3 2-6-2 Saddletankers for the California Western railroad. But I can make a lot of kitbashing mistakes for $1000.

IF I had that much to spend for myself, it would be for a CPR 2-10-4 Selkirk #9000. That was the one they modified with a three-part boiler, where steam moved from one chamber to the other at 1600 psi (nope, not an error). It had three cylinders runnng at 250 psi, and a booster running at 850 psi.

The crews gave out before the engine did in trials. I think it was ulcers...or maybe it was hemorrhoids.

Illinois Central SD40-2 by Kato and everything that it needs to run. I emailed Kato about it.

O scale Frisco 1500-class Mountain, preferably the 1501.

FWIW, the top-line O scale brass imports top out north of $3000; $1000 would be a bargain.

Of course, I could model it myself. The advantage would be gaining the skill a knowledge to fabricate in brass using a lathe, end-mill, and resistance soldering unit (and would therefore be able to model other locos as well), but the drawback would be a much higher up-front cost, well over the $1000 limit.

A re-issue of Rollin Lobaugh's Challenger, detailed for NP, with only drive change being can motors, but that's not critical.
All sand-cast bronze parts as original, ScaleModels couplers (none of this Kadee stuff), balanced as the original.
In 1:48, none of this Proto garbage.

Lets just say a BLI SF 4-8-4 2900 class engine with hornby live steam in it that could run on both conventional DC & DCC.

For me, a thousand dollars for a locomotive - whoa! - Heady houghts......I'm an N-Scaler and I model the Milwaukee Electrics. I'd GLADLY pay a grand for a LITTLE JOE (from KATO (of course) with working pantographs, DCC, and sound not that there's much of that [:-^] I've got a SPUTNIK pairing already with a pair of ex-KATO EF's, but a LITTLE JOE would REALLY make my CHRISTMAS MERRY & BRIGHT!

I would never pay 1000 for a MBTA F40 (being I could just decal one). What I'd really like is prototypically correct MBTA coaches!!! Mebbe i'm being too picky, but ther MBTA never used horizon cars, they use some sort of German Cars that are SIMILAR to Horizon cars.
Then again, thats a coach, not a locomotive[:D]

I want a BLI or Proto 2000 Heritage level quality Y6b to replace the brass ones I sold. I am getting by with Rivarossi, but would like better. PCM has announced a Y6b. In my opinion it is overpriced at $700 so I am not going to get one unless the street price turns out to be quite a bit less. Haven't heard Lok sound yet either, so unsure about that. I am resisting the urge to reward manufacturers who introduce models I want, but price them too high. I thought the BLI Class A and J were reasonable for what one received, and I fail to see what makes this engine worth $300 more.
What could have happened.... did.
