Although sometimes these announcements could be a teaser to a larger announcement this is an interesting one at any rate---

The question is now, how many people will buy something like that though?

Well, the most obvious answer is Slobbering Pennsy Freaks.

Followed by Psychotic Seaboard Groupies

And ending with Nattering Nabobs of Nacionales de Mexico Negativism.

As for those of us not fitting the above 3 labels, BLI has just saved us a few hundred bucks by producing something we won't buy. At the rate MTH and Broadway are saving me money, my net worth will start rivaling Warren Buffet's within the next 10 years. Smile,Wink, & Grin

It's a good thing they didn't do an SP M-4, that would put me in the poor house, SP had 130 of those.

It's really kind of hard to support your local hobby shop when the nearest hobby shop that's worth the name is a 150 mile roundtrip.

my guess is the "huge" referenced the size of the locomotive being announced, not the size (or relevance to all modelers) of the announcement itself.

OMYGAW, that's the Big Announcement?   A Baldwin Centipede?   Something that never ran west of the Mississippi and was nothing but trouble for those couple of railroads that bought them?

Don't know if that's the ONLY big announcement.  Maybe they'll be more...

This is being discussed (in a thread started by yours truly yesterday about 0.0000235 seconds after receiving the email) in the BLI forums as well. See it here: http://www.broadway-limited2.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1489

Obviously they're doing 1:1 scale Thomas the Tank Engine, real living clones of Sir Topham Hat, and a circle of track to run it on. For the blueline version it'll be $100,000, for the Hybrid version it will be $250,000, and for the brass version it will be 500,000.

How did you not catch on? Big SmileTongue

Hi!

Gotta get my 10cents in..........

I've got to agree that what we "loco buyers" could really use - and buy - are some smaller steam locos.  For every articulated and 10 or 12 driver loco, there were many, many more 4, 6, or 8 driver locos.  Putting out a decent selection of steam switchers, Atlantics, Pacifics, Hudsons, etc., would certainly be a boon to the hobby, and would probably be an excellent seller.  For support, take a look at Bachmann's Spectrum sales of 2-8-0s!

While I would like to see offerings with DCC w/sound, giving buyers the options of DC and/or no sound would open up the market considerably.

That being said, I would certainly dig into the bank account if some more ATSF (or IC) locos were produced that were reasonable representations (i.e. ATSF with unique marker boards and pilots, IC with massive squared steam dome).

Hey, for what its worth...........

Tom, I actually have 9 pieces from BLI/PCM, and 2 did BEGIN life with DCC decoders. But I will admit, only two others (DC Reading T-1's) where purchased at anything close to retail. The rest all bought at closeout prices.

Hey, nothing wrong with that approach, Sheldon.  I picked up two DC 2nd-run Proto 2000 0-8-0 switchers off eBay for $80 & $90 each.  (MSRP: $250)  $15-20 for a decoder with Back EMF and I was good to go.

I, too, would like to see some smaller offerings from BLI/PCM - sound and non-sound.

ATLANTIC CENTRAL

Personally, I think BLI/PCM has already shot themselves in the foot with their pricing policies and product choices. And their "source", "owner?" in China has done them no favors either with lawsuits and such. The deep discounts to "dump" all the unsold product devalue their product over all and make it harder to justify the price of each new item.

But what do I know, I'm just a hick with a pickup and a gun who still runs his trains on DC.

I agree with what you said here. Then with the MTH issue it goes all even more coocooDead

My suspicion is that the BIG announcement will be about another articulated, in a funny way, 4-12-4.Sigh Even if there is a SD70 somewhere in the mix---it'll be awhile before THAT even shows up.

BTW--the pick up would be a 1948/9 Studebaker pickup and you have to live in a log cabin out'n the backhills----Smile,Wink, & GrinWhistling

It comes in DC only

That will make Sheldon happy. Clown

Maybe the big announcement is a long list of small and medium sized locos offered in four versions, DC, DC w/sound, DCC, DCC w/sound and offered in six road numbers each plus unlettered.

BECAUASE, if they have been paying attention to these forums, they know those of us waiting for smaller locos will buy lots of copies, not just one for our display case.

Obviously Bachmann gets it by offering their new spectrum loco in both sound and non sound versions. The prices of Bachmann non sound DCC versions are so low any non sound/DC modeler will happily just unplug the decoder and install the jumpers (and of course cut the capacitor).

Personally, I think BLI/PCM has already shot themselves in the foot with their pricing policies and product choices. And their "source", "owner?" in China has done them no favors either with lawsuits and such.  1. Pennsy Broadway Limited train set. [...] Long standing rumor was that BLI was working on a '38 Broadway and Walthers a '48 Broadway.

This would rock, given the company's name :) I'd be first in line to buy one.

Since they stress the word "HUGE", maybe they're getting into G scale or even something larger.

HO GE B36-7 in CSX YN2 (Bright Future) Scheme and other railroads. This diesel locomotive is sorely needed in HO scale.

HO 4-4-0 Steam Locomotives Western and Atlantic "GENERAL" and "TEXAS" of US CIVIL WAR fame and 1860's era freight and passenger cars to go behind these locomotives.

I just received the MR update email and the following underlined ad from BLI is included as an advertisement.    How would we know to anticipate this unless they told us to look for the announcement that is huge!   Maybe they are a little over the top on this one.   It has better be the best wanted item for at least 50% of us.   You can please all of the model railroaders some of the time, and some of the model railroaders all of the time, but you can't please all of the model railroads all of the time.

If Tom is right and we get a convertible M4, MTH will have to quickly announce one also during the weekend.  They could use the same drive as the 4-12-2 since it has a lot of wheels

Come see us this weekend at the NMRA Hartford National Convention for hugely anticipated product announcements! See Daylight Car & other samples! Meet Bob Grubba and Ken Silvestri. Bob will be giving two seminars on the new Paragon2 Series locomotives. Don't miss it!

I think the huge announcement is Sarah Palin is now the new BLI CEO.  That's why she resigned as Govenor of Alaska.  But the first item on her agenda is to introduce a Thomas the tank engine in N scale.

Maybe they're going to up the ante and compete with Bachmann's new articulated? MTH will have to follow suit, giving us a glut of C&O steam on the market, all in time for Xmas!

selector

I had coffee with Matt Williamson a couple of days ago and he let it slip to me.  BLI will be announcing an N-Scale Russian 4-14-4 live steam, SD-70ACE in N-Scale for several roads, and they will be launching a new Emerald Line in O scale.  First engine will be a Pennsy 4-6-2.  Live steam with an animated hogger in the cab, capable of negotiating 18" curves.

Big Smile

Selector:

I will only be interested in that O scale Pennsy live steam 4-6-2 if that animated hogger chews his fingernails every time the loco goes around those 18" curves, LOL! Tongue

Actually, the rumor I've heard is that they are announcing a 'convertible' M4 Yellowstone that separates in the middle to make a cabless 2-8-0 and an 0-8-4 switcher with a very big tender.

And we all thought that BLI couldn't do a small loco! Whistling
