Just got an e-mail from FDT ballyhooing a "HUGE" announcement from Broadway this weekend in Hartford.
Is someone finally going to do a Harriman Mike or Pacific? As much as I'd like to believe it, I ain't holding my breath. I tried that already and all that happened was that the rep from Broadway remarked that I had a bit of a cyanotic look about me just before I passed out.
I fear that this "huge" announcement will just be about another huge locomotive. In any case, I plan to keep my blood well oxygenated. Holding your breath until you turn blue didn't work on parents and there's no reason to expect it to work on model railroad manufacturers.
A Smith and Wesson is reputed to beat four aces. I wonder if it beats the director of marketing.
Sigh.

Andre:
I don't think BLI has done a UP Challenger, yet. God forbid THAT'S their 'Huge Announcement'.

Well, okay then. SD70 or no, I would not b surprised if the NYC steamers are announced either, the condition of a few locos/cars maybe. (Ah-Hem. Daylight? Remember BLI? You announced YEARS ago? Something about a factory hangup? I want my engine! NOW!)

I heard from an inside source that they were creating a non prototype based locomotive:
Of course MTH will be soon to follow, but theirs will have an articulated tender too.

If I had to guess, it either be:a. Preproduction model of the 4-12-2b. Another Challengerc. Preproduction model of the GS4 daylightd. Another run of Fs (hope for BN, despite all the Fs on the market, few are availabe as BN)
What I wish it was:1. Another run of SD40-2s, with corrugated grilles as appropriate.2. There SW1500s are finally done (I want a sound-equipped one, although I'll have to settle with an undec for the mean time)3. Another run of C30-7s4. An end to the limited production crap. (not ever likely)
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
I've given up on BLI, MTH, and Athearn for small steam, and have focused my attention on Bachmann Spectrum...

My hope is that the NYC 20th Century Limited Dreyfuss Hudson will be "officially" announced, along with an announcement for the accompanying '38 20th Century Limited passenger cars. With that said, I, too, would love to see some small steam made available for a change.

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
My guesses, in order...
1. Pennsy Broadway Limited train set. The new run of Zephyr is due in a few weeks and they need to get another passenger train on the schedule. Long standing rumor was that BLI was working on a '38 Broadway and Walthers a '48 Broadway.
2. Pennsy Centipedes. The prototype was considered a dog, but modeler's crave them! Only used by three railroads though.
3. Pennsy H9/H10 2-8-0 Consolidations. Most Pennsy modelers will buy more than one. Many a half dozen!

Probably an N-scale GEVO.
Could we finally hope to see the GN 4-8-4 S's please please please.
Or how about a nice 2-6-2
Maybe all new BLI engines will now be equipped with MRC Sound decoders!
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
I guess the big announcement email worked. Lots of speculation going on. With people anxious to see what it is. Oh well, keeps the forum going.
I got the email also and there is no clue until this weekend. They just announced the PRR Q2 and that is huge for sure, but probably not what they are talking about.
If it was April 1st, I would say maybe BLI has purchased the new EMD and they are going to make one to one scale SD70Ace units!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But no, that probably is not the right answer.

I had coffee with Matt Williamson a couple of days ago and he let it slip to me. BLI will be announcing an N-Scale Russian 4-14-4 live steam, SD-70ACE in N-Scale for several roads, and they will be launching a new Emerald Line in O scale. First engine will be a Pennsy 4-6-2. Live steam with an animated hogger in the cab, capable of negotiating 18" curves.
I really hope its a broadway limited set.
rjake4454I really hope its a broadway limited set.
That would be very nice and how about the S1 to go with it???????
The S1 would be huge!!!!!!!!!
Maybe they're going to up the ante and compete with Bachmann's new articulated? MTH will have to follow suit, giving us a glut of C&O steam on the market, all in time for Xmas!
Yay.

You're in Hartford, aren't you Ray?
Packer. . . . . . . . . . Another run of Fs (hope for BN, despite all the Fs on the market, few are availabe as BN) . . . . . . . . . .
An air compressor, an airbrush, paint, and decals can solve this problem!
As a freelancer I thirst for diesels painted in the Undec Railroad livery; if I can't get them in that paint scheme I have to strip them to that scheme before I can paint them in my house road livery.

Look up, head to "product and hobby news", and there's a link to new products announced at Hartford.
I'm looking forward to the Walthers DM&IR caboose and Atlas steel rebuild boxcar. Everything else announced is useless for a 1940s Midwestern modeler like me! (although of all the articulateds released over the past decade, that C&O jobber is really cute...)

Hmm. C&O H-4. Looks like Bachmann took the USRA engine and altered the cosmetics to make it closer the the H-4 (including the slide valve front cylinders, a new cab, tender, etc.). You're right. It is a nice looking engine.
Edit: Too bad Bachmann hasn't thought of doing an alternate cylinder saddle for the Spectrum 2-8-0 to make the engine more closely resemble the Harriman standard Consolidation so beloved of the UP and SP. The drivers would still be oversize a bit, but not so much it couldn't be lived with.
I see Bachmann is also releasing the C&O H-4 in N.

Good one!
I looked at the post on the National Train show and BLI is not even listed. Maybe that is huge since both Bowser and MTH have major announcements.
It will be interesting since BLI has announced the SP AC12 and then took it off their schedule list. i think the big surprise this last week was the PRR Q2. I have a brass one and will add a brass hybrid if they actually bring it in.
Maybe the big announcement...is that BLI doesn't have a big announcement? Oh, those marketing folks...

Margaritaman I heard from an inside source that they were creating a non prototype based locomotive: 4-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-3 Runs on 15" radius curves Articulated boiler Cats in heat sound effects Of course MTH will be soon to follow, but theirs will have an articulated tender too.
Sorry Margaritaman, but you heard wrong. I really do have information from an inside source. The word "huge" is a tipoff for BLI's new product line, HOHO scale, a 1/10 scale or 1:8.75 behemoth. The introductory steamer is a 4-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-4 monster that requires a 150' radius curve to operate properly. It comes in DC only, but is DCC ready. The optional decoder weighs 875 pounds and can only be shipped UPS 2nd day air. Sorry, no sound, due to local sound decibel restrictions.
Alton Junction
richhotrainIt comes in DC only
That will make Sheldon happy.

Maybe they're re-introducing the Tyco Turbo Train!
Or maybe it's a 1/1,000,000 scale DeWitt Clinton!
Or maybe it's an updated Big Boy (most likely).

If they announced a 2-6-0 as you want, that would be a small announcement. Remember, they said huge!!!!!!!!!!!!! Probably a Yellowstone!!!!!!!
I am thinking a B&O EM1 or a DM&IR M4.
