Gooooooood Morning.  The rain has stopped, and its suppose to clear up today.

Well FedEx called yesterday, but the number they gave me to call for a interview was disconnected.  I called them this morning, and the lady said she will have the other lady call me again.  I guess she won't be in till later.  So I hope I get this.  I normally do good at interviews.

Jim.....When the Cards came to Pittsburgh about a year or so ago, my wife caught a batting practice ball from Albert.  Two guys went for the ball and missed, and she grabbed it.  Its just a plain old baseball, with grass stains on it.  It makes you wonder how many ball parks its been in, before she grabbed it.

Todd.........Thats why I keep doing boxcars. They seem to be the "hot" item right now.  The Ann Arbor car is going to Norwegen.  Hopefully its not to much to ship.   I had to use that car to pay my fees of $71 dollars Banged Head Angry Grumpy.  I wasn't to happy about it.   I'm honestly debating to get another car today, or wait and see what happens with the FedEx job.  If I get it, I won't do them as much.   Plus a guy in Australia is sending some cars for me to do for him.  So....it seems like I will be busy enough.

On another note.  Remember my wife had surgery in May, that if we want to have kids/get rid of pains she was having....That she need the left tube removed.  Well she hasn't been feeling good, and called the doctor.  They said to take a preg. test, and she did.  All three came up positive (pregnant).  She had blood work done this morning, to make 100% sure she is.  BUT she has all of the signs that she is.  Now thats why I hope the FedEx job works out.  It was honestly a miracle it happened the first time.  That also has me alittle worried.  Hopefully I have someone watching out over us, and I'm sure it will all workout.  I know we have been at the bottom of the barrell for awhile now.

Well I better get off of here.  I will pop back in later.

Jeff- was the salsa incident a moment of distraction or was it a confusion from the stroke? I hope it was just a duh moment, I know my wife has dumped some strange stuff into strange things from being distracted.

It was just a 'DUH' moment on her part.

Jeff- was the salsa incident a moment of distraction or was it a confusion from the stroke? I hope it was just a duh moment, I know my wife has dumped some strange stuff into strange things from being distracted.

Today: Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind becoming west between 5 and 8 mph.  Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Northeast wind at 5 mph becoming south. Chance of precipitation is 30%. I worked on the concept of operations for the hopper fleet yesterday and emailed it out for suggestions and recommendations.  I think the use of live loads will give the railroad a unique opportunity for busy train hustling.   I still need to sand and paint one wall in the remodeled basement room before the bench work is built.

 Good morning.

It's 77 and cloudy. The high will be near the mid 90's and there's a chance of rain.

Had problem after problem with the cable internet out here yesterday, indeed, for the majority of the last week! There's a loose connection in the area for sure, as the signal seem to go on and off seemingly with a change in the wind. There's supposed to be a tech coming out here this morning to check the problem out. Well, we'll see if he's a tech or just another wiseguy who tries to protect the company by claiming it's a problem with the users equipment. If it's a problem with my equipment then there's a bunch of people having the same identical problem as it's an area of over a hundred square miles calling in about it (Got that from the crew in Tyler yesterday). On the MR front I'm sorting through my boxcars that have roofwalks. Those that have roofwalks that can be easily removed will have them removed and remain in service. The others which have roofwalks that can't be removed (molded on) will be retired to the storage cabinet above the layout. I'm not concerned about the position of brake wheels too much as many older boxcars still had the brake wheel up high for years even after the roofwalk was removed. Roofwalks on covered hoppers are necessary for obvious reasons and so are not a problem. Got the parent's yard mowed yesterday before it got too hot to work outside. Even then I still felt like a big water drop when I finished. If my sister remembers to get some gas today I'll mow her yard this weekend.

Good evening from drippy, drizzly, Camp Babcock Hovey here in the Heart of the Finger Lakes.

Today was field trip day for all three sections of SciTek Camp.  The Bugs, Birds, and Beasts Section went to the Cornell University Ornithology Lab:

The Engineering Section went to Cornell to visit the Mars Rover Project Lab.  Well it was supposed to do that, but the bus broke down and they spent a lot of time waiting................  They did manage to get there for the visit and tour of the NanoTechnology Lab:

Yep, that's them in the funny looking suits....  (A requirement of the Clean Room):

And I went with the Renewable Energy Group to visit the Cohocton, NY Wind Project run by First Wind.  They have 50 Turbines in operation totally and can produce 125 MW of Electricity.  Enough to power about 54,000 homes when they are all up and running.  From the ground to the tip of the rotor when it is at the top, is 420'.  Each blade is 154' long and when rotating at 15 RPM, the tips are moving at 100 MPH.  Very impressive to stand at the dase and look up at the rotating blades.

We met at the Farm (one of the "host" properties).  The Turbine is actually close to a 1/4 mile out in the corn field in back of the barn.....

Here is the kids at the base of the turbine:

The week is going by way too fast....  We have a great bunch of campers!   Hope you are all having a great week as well!

Say Chloe, looks like the place is nearly empty but I shouldn't be surprised as it is after 10 p.m. here.

I forgot to wish Ulrich a happy wedding anniversary so Ulrich, please accept my best wishes for many more happy years with your wife. I've been married 27 years now and just can't really believe it sometimes. Good luck with your business too.

I've been very busy and tired lately because of work. I had to go through a Cross Examination of Affadavit which means a lawyer asked me questions for 3 1/2 hours under oath with everything being recorded by a Court Reporter. Our lawyer got into a few squabbles with the other one as she was asking off topic questions and often was getting a little too beligerent. I was just drained after the process but at least it's over for now.

Not much new here except that Robbie is getting bigger by the day. I think his weight has likely doubled in the 2 months we've had him. He is a lot of fun but is really tiring at times. It's quiet now so he must be napping which is a good thing as we'll soon be putting him in his crate for the night.

Another cool week here with temps in the mid 60's F and rain showers. Glad I sold to boat as it has turned out a really poor summer for sailing.

See you soon,

CN Charlie

Evenin', Chloe - I'll have a hot fudge sundae and a Santa Fe mug of coffee, please. Thank you.

Well, Ulrich, before you run out of the food money, maybe you can supplement your meals with some roast bear wolf politician? Shock (Just kidding...) Man, we'll need to start putting in the AngelAngel for a quicker meeting with your guy. Two weeks sounds like way too long to have to wait to find out... Like your new plan - you maybe could do the water with the float in place (and a plastic liner under the car float), and then after the water hardens, pull the float out.

And ohmigosh! The Cubs are about to pull ahead of the Cardinals? Yikes!!!Shock (Thump, thud...) Spplassshhh!...  Oh, thanks, Robby - I must've passed out or something, I guess. I'm gonna have to find Albert Pujols' phone number and have a heart-to-heart talk with him (and LaRosa, and...) about letting that happen...Oops As for football teams, I don't really have any favorites.

Robby - nice job on that Ann Arbor boxcar, Thumbs Up and besides, you didn't want to have those 'non-prototypical' trees in the background, right? Smile,Wink, & Grin

Kevin, hope that there will be enough people to get them to change their minds - that's one whopping cut! Did they give anyone a heads-up that there might be some cuts, or did this come out of the blue?

Rob, I'd say somebody at your FIL's home should be monitoring his meds for him, so they don't have any repeats of that. (And I'd probably agree about hiding that Walthers catalog....Wink)

JP, thanks for filling us in on the home and family topics, and remember to stake out a few square feet somewhere, if only for your MRR display case!

Jeff, have you labelled any of that work gang with 'Slowlink' stencilled across their backs? Whistling

Sawyer, are those photos taken in the room you'll be using for the layout? Looks like a lot of light in there, which should be good when you're working on the scenery and such. And I've never quite heard that analogy used before... interesting, indeed!Confused

Chris - looks like whichever paint shop did that covered hopper had the hiccups or something that day (or maybe were hungover?). That looks weird, all right! And that UP/MP combo might've come out of the same paint shop, from the looks of THAT. LOL!

Not much going today - had my morning follow-up people show up, and then about noon when I was gonna get things caught up, one of our Drs. had me called down to his office (had a ranting/raving client in the office who had been threatening the staff and manager at her home, complaining because of not getting as much anxiety meds as the client thought they should've, and threatening to run away. The client was madder than I've ever seen this one in the past (and I've had to commit this one a few times). That went fairly quickly, but took up about all of my lunch hour, so I had to get it all done and get back for my afternoon follow-up people (who didn't show...). Right now, I have a roast in the slow cooker at home. During the week - unless I can get home over lunch - the five hours to cook the thing takes too long to have it ready for dinner (at a decent hour, anyway).

I fiddled around with a different arrangement of industries for the 'future layout' plan, involving the cement plant being added in, and the grain elevator and another building or two being rearranged. I'll try to post an image of it tomorrow night.

I'll be at the RC a bit until I finish up my dessert and coffee.

[Edit] And it looks like I have the night-owl specials tab (and early breakfast crew), as well as Ulrich's lunch tab too, perhaps. Wink

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape GIrardeau

Right now at 7:12pm EDST, it is 73F (~23C), the RH is 95% ( saturated air), and the Dew Point is 72F ( fog will be forming soon ), and this is at 72 degrees north latitude, not Jeff''s back yard where this is normal for July !!! Right Jeff ?  And no end in sight for at least the next 7 days.

Actually 72 is pretty cool for this time of year. It's 85 right now (7:53 pm CDT) and that's after a short shower.

Good evening, Chloe? A burger 'n fries please and thankya...yepper, with a Coke.

Chris: That hopper looked like someone tried to redo a perceived mistake on the stencilling but messed it up even more----makes me wonder what the other side was like---

Yeah, I always kinda wondered the 'how and why' of it...at first I thought it was repainted/relettered...and the newer paint washed off, fell off, whatever, but the lettering held tight. You'd think somebody would get fired doing a job like THAT. I didn't get to see the other side, it was rolling west on an empty grain train through Beverly Yard (Cedar Rapids) in '96. I barely had time to grab the shot I got. I'm about tempted, sometime when I've got a few extra bucks... to grab an Accurail UP hopper, some Microscale decals...and see if I can't duplicate it. It's been "calling to me" ever since I shot it. Whistling

Here's why I kinda thought a paint job had washed off:

As you can see, the "Zito" yellow has all but removed itself from the good lead-based "English Stagecoach Yellow" which CNW applied in '81 when they got her from the remains of The ROCK. The bits of primer gray add an interesting touch too. Zito faded big-time, darn-near to white...but this is the only unit I've seen where it just totally came off.Confused

Hey, another one to torment the "experts" in that weathering forum. Mischief

Maybe something like this would get an "expert's" knickers in a twist:

I'll take my seat at the Rivet Counter now...

JEFF: How fast were you backing up when you slammed into that old lady's car? LOL LOL

I was moving at MAYBE 3 mph, at the fastest, the average persons walking speed. And I didn't back into her car, she hit ME from behind. It made my car a little lighter by knocking some of the dried mud out of the bumper.

Why do we have this strange weather this season all over the place? Two reasons, a block in the atmosphere in the western Atlantic, and, an El Nino in the eastern to mid Pacific.

ANIMALS HERE IN THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY: Eastern Coyote, a few wolves, Fox, Fisher Cats, Lynx, Cougars (rare, but here), plenty of white tail deer, and a large black bear count, one in the next town recently, and Moose ( one darted in the city just last week ).

ULRICH: 1st, Congratulations on reaching 25 years of marriage, GREAT JOB !!

2nd, I know of several MRR guys that have been married many years, but I don't have the numbers, hopefully they will add them here. My wife and I have been married for 49.2 years, 4 kids, 9 grandkids.

JEFF: How fast were you backing up when you slammed into that old lady's car? LOL LOL

RAY: Your having too much fun, I can tell !!! Don't forget to teach them about " leaves of 3 " !!!!

DUKE: OK, the meal is on me tonight to celebrate you joining the ROF club !!

JERRY: I hear you cleaned out the root beer with all your double floats, now we can't have any until Friday delivery!!! Tsk, tsk.

J.R. Are you up in Der John's neck of the woods???? I thought I read your note about Halifax!

CN CHARLIE: Ahhhh, I see that Summer has arrived for you, lets hope we don't have an early Winter, August begins this Saturday, where the h.. did Summer go? Or was it ever here for long?

J.P. : That is indeed good news, you will soon be a family man, so get ready for the HD jar list..LOL

DER JOHN: No let up in sight, but at least you are making some nice progress on your layout, just think, Fall may be beginning in a few weeks. I know, that was not very funny....Evil

Lemon water, please.

***J.P., which road name is that EMD SD70ACe? A Kato UP Flag version perhaps? Which mine, too? Let me know.

Have a good night all. Cowboy Rob

Yes Rob... Julie read me the numbers off the box when she got it Saturday and I was on Walther's site doing research on it when I found that it's the UP one w/ the Flag.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Got the parents yard mowed this morning before it got too hot. Afterward my mother and I went to town for lunch. We decided on El Giro's and went there. For our drinks I ordered a diet Dr Pepper and she ordered unsweet tea. She ripped open a package of sweet and low to dump into the tea and dumped it in the salsa instead.

Rob: It's a crossover track from the passing siding of the outside loop to the main of the inside loop and sees limited traffic.

JEFF: I too wondered if that was a w**k gang on-loan from the County lock-up. Didn't see anybody with shotguns though.

The duputies are just out of frame.

Back again - nothin´ on tv, not in the mood for a talk with wife, so better to come here, sit with the chaps and quaff a few...

Robby P. -  I just adore your work and your photography - I store all those pics on my PC as a reference for future weathering projects!

Sawyer - women can give you a hard time, but somehow we can´t do without them, can we? Splitting up is tough, but better early than late or too late. Is there a receipe for a good partnership? Yes, there is - next to really loving each other, you need TFT - trust, faith, tolerance and RESPECT. My parents are married nearly 60 years now and that´s what kept them together!

Cheer up ,mate!

Janie, whatever the bloke is having, put it on my tab! (and can I pay next month, please - I am out of money for the moment)Big Smile

Chris.......I don't post to many pictures in the "pro" website.   If I want a really nice car, I might then.  Other than that, its very little posting.  I can say the last few cars I posted, they really liked.  With little to say.

Sawyer........Been in your shoes a good bit, when I was younger (I'm almost 30, and I'm talking like I'm old as dirt).  You will know when "shes" the right one.

I finished up the "Ann Arbor" car.  I bought another one to weather up.  I like the look of these cars.  The pictures aren't the best, and its been raining all day.  I had to take them inside.  Maybe tomorrow I can get better shots.

Chris, puked my guts out, I'm good. And that's actually what I wanted, it's like catching a train at the grade crossing early in the morning, which you might say is what I did.

Good afternoon everybody,

I'll take a large bucket of RBF and settle-in at the Rivet Counter...post-lawn mowing rehab.

ULRICH: Buddy, you keep providing me with all sorts of good ideers for my future layout. I thank you heartily! Thumbs Up

SAWYER: Sorry to hear of your latest woman troubles... or on the flip-side...congratulations if indicated??Confused Let me know if you need the "break-up tunes" list again. Looks like you need a little suplemental artifical light for your pics. Maybe it's my screen setting, but I got a bunch of silhouettes (sp.). Lighting can be a tricky thing. I took some shots a few years back in my RR room, with natural window light. The background looked black like a severe Iowa thunderstorm, instead of the carefully chosen "sky blue" it really is.

RAY: Looks like the campers are having a blast... and the others are having fun too!

JERRY: Did they ever get your lift chair fixed? Glad to hear the power chair is finally scheduled for w**k.

JEFF: I too wondered if that was a w**k gang on-loan from the County lock-up. Didn't see anybody with shotguns though.

*sigh* Gotta look through, edit down, "clean up" (crop & adjust in Photoshop), and format pics from the Johnson County Fair yesterday. Then, I "should" get a little farther on a story I've got simmering on the back burner about an assisted living complex, THAT got fined by the state, and now has dropped the program. Assisted living residents can stay, but have to hire their own "in-home" health services. I gotta talk to the state, the city of North Liberty muckety-mucks, even NLPD to see if there is a story there or not. Also "should" get more info on Purple Martins for a human interest story out of Solon.

Anybody here know anything about Purple Martins???

Have a good-un,

ChrisEight Ball

EDIT: Here's a little something to give everybody a nice little headache looking at:

Hey ROBBY P: Give this a try, and see what the "experts" in the weathering forum have to say...

Coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.

***Jeffrey, how busy is that section of track being worked on? I was wondering when the next train is scheduled to come through there and how fast can those wee folk can move?
