Good morning.It's 73 and clear. The high will be around 96 and it will be partly cloudy.I didn't have much time online yesterday as Suddenlink has a still unresolved problem that's crippled internet service to customers along a stretch of 10+ miles of cable. Right now my download speed is OK but my upload speed is in the 40's. It should be no lower that 256. For much of yesterday there was no signal at all. I'm hoping the problem gets resolved today but I'm not holding my breath while I wait. My father should be off work today so he'll be able to watch my mother, giving me a well deserved break. I have to go to town later to pick up a few things but other than that it should be a nice slow day with nothing to do but relax. The lights on the locomotive are for its precedence on the time table. White is “EXTRA” and has to give way to all other traffic. In the steam days this was often a flag mounted on the front of the locomotive and caboose so the tower and station persons could identify trains as they went past by what color flag or marker lights the exhibited. The old short line here in town still uses these in train movements.
Jim, yea they came with 2 paddles each. The Summit county Red Cross is cutting back on some of its programs and decided to eliminate the water safety course, the canoes and kayaks were sold at $300 to $250 each. I don’t have any trips in mind yet, but there are a few canoe trails I would like to do as well as the old canal system.
Rob, I have a friend in the AC&R business; he said: change the air filter and let the unit rest for 2 hours to allow the refrigerant to collect in the outside unit then start it back up. He also reminded me he doesn’t like Trane products because they have computer cards in the units that can overheat or go bad.

We had some more monsoons charge through here overnight. We're expecting some showers--heavy at times--and those t'underin'boomers to come through today. We're at a sticky 21C with the humidity at 95% right now.
Our lake grows and grows just like Ulrich's is right now--that is why I've got a floating dock in it now---might as well use the lake for the R/C boats----

Good Morning All,
The rains let up here in Lockeport but it's still cloudy. Check engine light on the Excursion went on though I see nothing obvious so it's off to the local garage to see if we can hook it to the OBDII machine and make sure it's just a glitch. This happens occasionally when it rains for a while and the sensors get soaked. A couple of days of sunshine should fix it but no sun is forcast for now. At 150k the old beast still runs strong (7.3ltr diesel) but the switching and other electric stuff is getting crotchety.
No MRR stuff here - the nearest hobby shops are in Halifax and Dartmouth and they seem to have torn up all the track south of Halifax as well. The rest of VIA Rail is on strike anyway and shut down (no engineers contract since 2006 and it's all govt owned anyway).

I have to finish packing, cleaning house, mow lawn, write up directions for my son and the pet sitter. Both will be coming over to take care of my kitties while i am at camp. Manét has been in his, "Daddy, you going to leave?" mode ever since I started to pack. This means I have to do a lot of cuddling with him and listen to a sad meow all the time........

I can use some of Ulrich's rain here for sure. The pic is of the lake behind my parent's house. The stumps are normally underwater. The white pipes are about 5 feet long and would stick up out of the water about 2 feet to indicate a boat channel.

Barry, The photos were taken at Steamtown, NHS, in Scranton, PA. If you go to the photobucket page, you can see pictures of red and grey or white and grey locomorives of the Delaware & Lackawanna RR, who has fleet of mostly Alcos. Thier only EMD (That I know of) is currently on display at Steamtown. It is that SC shown, and it runs!

OK I'm back. Yup figured as much. Luckily I've had my two rants so I got it off my chest. Odd though how some people contradict themselves and claim that they don't say what they said, and claim people don't do what they do. Even when it's written down and can be proved. I mean one guy claimed Robby didn't give credit to MTW, well I beg to differ. He has and I have the written word to prove it. Of course that would be something I could generate and wouldn't really be proof. What's that called a "straw argument" where you take the facts and twist them to suit your point? If the are saying it's not about the ego but are concerned that they aren't getting credit than it IS an ego thing. Well anyway, looks like Crandell stopped it. Too bad, I enjoyed the thread. What, did the guy just come over to bash Aggro? It look s like by the dates and number of posts he did. An internet stalker! I hope someone starts another. I might just post the old Water Tower. Open myself up a bit. And Barry I whole heartedly agree with your post over there. You don't need to tip toe on the person, but letting them know the good as well helps tremendously along with the needed improvements.

Nik, so the Pacific is the only steam loco in service? What is going on with that beautiful old 1917 CN Mike they have. Is she in for service, repair, problem with her?????? Have any idea. looks to me that Steamtown is sporting a lot of diseasals these days. Last time I was there they only had 2 on the property. Also the Pacific had just come out of the shops from a rebuild and was being broken in doing yard work.
Got a little over half the yard done before the battery gave out..... Which is OK as the guy pushing it was about ready to give out as well..... So I have it recharging. Should be able to get enough charge to finish the lawn by 3:30 or 4:00 and just enough time to mow before that ominous cloud arrives that Barry sent my way....
I'll be in now and then next week as we now have the camp wired (or should I say wireless) for the internet now. Most Scoutmasters can use the wireless connection all the way out in the campsites. Scouts are not allowed to use it except in special circumstances. Staff can use the equipment in the SciTek Building or hook up in their campsite. Everyone who uses the internet there has to sign a use agreement. Of course the SciTek Campers will be online several times during the week just doing research for projects. I'll throw a few cople photos your way every day so you can see what we do.

Wow! Poor old girl. I am in love with that engine!...... According to the Steamtown site, she will be back on the road before the end of the 2009 excursion season.
"CN #3254 is in the Locomotive Shop, where our shop forces re-profiled the lead truck and main driving wheels, installed new springs on the trailing truck, and installed a rebuilt stoker motor. The locomotive is out-of-service for journal repairs as of June 28. We expect the locomotive to be back to excursion service for the 2009 Operations Season before long."

For all practical purposes I am packed for camp. I'm sure I'll remember something I need that is not packed about half way there...... Manét has been giving me the "sad" look all day and has been saying "mewwww" which I think translates into, "Daddy, you goin' someplace?" I installed and used my New Magellan 1440 GPS today. Just wanted to see if I knew how to program it, so I put in an address across town. Took me right there....... There will be a couple of fieldtrips this week that I will most likely be a driver for, and it will be good to have thye GPS to give a good route to where ever it is???

Yep Rochester is taking a beating! But I doubt that Geneva will get more than a shower unless something else is moving this way. We are under a Severe Storm Warning at the moment, but I think that is for the storm hitting Rochester.

Stopped by our LHS owner's place (after doing laundry) this morning, and left him an order from the June flyer. I decided to get the Bar Mills' Collard's Creek kit(s) - the cabins are on sale in the June flyer, and the office and one cabin in the July flyer. Cute little things, and their style would work fine for my layout's era. Also ordered some Classic Metal Works vehicles ('59 Fairlane and some utility trucks).
Hope to get back to my background warehouse tomorrow - got the 3M scrubbing pad I'm gonna use to remove the extra 'grout' from it, and then possibly touch up with my fine-point Sharpies on the bricks. It's been too humid today to do any more spray painting, though.
Prayers will continue for rain to stop (or start), depending on your location, for healing of backs and other ailments, and for some good nights' rests. Also for opportunities to open up on cruise lines.

Jim, Barry: The lake is down 10+ feet. The area in the pic is usually around 5-6 feet deep. Moreover the area is archeologically sensitive as Native American artifacts have been found, so it'll probably be down a while longer while the archeologists do their thing.

Jim- I see your helping Walthers also. Yah, I know, I know, don't feed the trolls. But sometimes they're so cute I can't resist. No really, when I was a young tadpole I was picked on by a few kids. I did what I was taught, ignore them and they'll go away. Well the didn't. Now I wasn't even 10 then and this had gone on for a couple of years but one day I'd had enough, I stood up for myself and they stopped picking on me after that. (similar to the "Coward of the County" song a bunch of years ago but not neeeeeaaaar as dramatic, lets just say they weren't as tough as I thought they were.) They picked on me because I was an easy target that offered them no consequences. Once they found out I was no longer an easy target they quit. That has stayed with me all these years and every time I see something like that happen it reminds me of my little experiences and it upsets me. (kindest way I could think to put it) Tough guys behind a wall.
Well I might mosey on down to Toddland (where I'm king) and see what's happening.

Nik.n , some nice shots of Steamtown. I hope to go there some day but I would find the state of that Jubilee disturbing as it is one of my favourites. That particular one is a class F1a. There also were a few F2a's built with 80" drivers and one of them hit 116 mph on an official speed run which is the record for Canadian steam. If you want more info on the CN Baltics, send me a PM as I have an article about them in a CN historical magazine called CN Lines. They were used in commuter service out of Montreal.
Jim, I know what you mean about not sleeping soundly when you think you might be called. When Jamie was sick last year I slept with one eye open in case he had to go outside. I don't think I got a sound sleep for 6 months.

You guys missed a funny one a few weeks ago. I was backing out of a handicap spot at Wal-Mart about 10 pm one night when a lady in a gray Mercury or Ford turns into the row at about thirty+ mph (12 mph limit), sees my car and slams on her brakes. Well, it's too late and she hits my back bumper, not hard enough to do any damage but it's enough to rock the car. The next moment she jumps out of her car yelling and screaming that it's my fault even though I was already well out in the lane when she came in on her qualifying run and hit me. Here's where it gets funny. The lighting in the parking lot isn't all that great so she can't really see the fire dept emblems on the car very well. She stopped in mid-rant as she spied the emergency light bar on my roof and went white as a sheet as she said 'Oh <insert explitive here>!' and was on the verge of fainting. She thought for sure she'd rear-ended a cop car! I reassured her that I wasn't a cop and that everything was all right. As for who was at fault the stores security tapes would prove that conclusively if she wanted to make a fight of it. There was no damage to either vehicle so we went our separate ways.
