Good morning.  Its going to be a rainy/thunderstorm day.  Thats means......I'm staying inside.

I'm like the others, not much going on today.   Do some job hunting, and thats about it.  I did check that website "usajobs", some good looking jobs $$$.  Nothing for me, but the wife said she will look later.   Shes the one with the degress.

I guess I will take a grilled bologna sandwhich to go.

See y'all in a bit.

Mornin' All!

Man, I'm hurtin' this mornin'!  I've redone all the bracketry on my bike for the tour pack over the last two evenings.  The old setup worked, but it wasn't optimal.  This new setup is better I think, though it still needs "road tested".  Before we do that though, I need to lay down the license plate onto the rear fender.  Right now it sticks up straight, and that will interfere with the bottom of the tour pack on bumps.  If I lay it down, no problem.  Besides, it'll look slick layed back on the fender like that.  Anyways, all that metal working without a proper workbench or vice has gotten to me.  I've been using a couple of 2x4's,4x4's, and C clamps to help me out with my cutting, grinding, and drilling.  That means I'm knealing and hunched over most of the time.  My back is complaining this morning!

Speaking of backs.......Day before yesterday we took my son to the doctors office because he said his back was sore all the time.  The docs took a look at him and think he has scoliosis, and thats in addition to his muscular dystrophy.  That poor kid can't catch a break!  I told him that God must really have something special planned for him to be putting him through all of this.  We should know in a few days whether we're looking at braces or surgery, but for now he's doing physical therepy.

Prayers for those in need, indeed!

Gooood morning, just coffee please. Fixed a light in the basement yesterday afternoon before work. Yup, shore did. (yawn)

Jeff- I would not say even a little bit that you stay home all day and play with trains. You get involved in more things than 3 people sometimes I do declare.

Rob- I'm beginning to like the Super Glues, it's nice for something to work on multiple materials. I use the thicker stuff. I also started using this liquid stuff called Plastruct Weldene, smells good and is non-toxic but doesn't really work that well quickly. A lot of waiting and holding for the glue to set and sometimes it doesn't hold that well. The trick apparently is to know how much to use and mostly how to apply. It works better now than when I first got it. It does real well for letting the glue flow into cracks and small stuff that is tricky for a thicker glue to use without the ooze blobs. It's an evaporative type so if some does ooze just let it be it will go away and the paint will cover the remains if you can even see it. Just don't try to wipe it away because it softens the plastic and you will permanently scare the brickwork or whatever detail it gets onOopsWhistling. Left alone to dry and it'll be fine. It's not too expensive considering the amount of solvent you get and how much you actually use. It seems to go a long way so maybe it's not that expensive in the long run. But for cheap good working glue it's tuff to beat Testors in the red tube or is it orange. Lee says it's orange. (me and my colors, I need to pay more attention to,...oh look at the birdie!)Using a toothpick and being careful about the stringy, spider webby things and being careful as the volcanic glue eruptions from the tube, it's pretty good stuff. I still use it when I need a strong joint fairly quick or the liquid isn't working well.

Ryan- Hey! Good to see you. Are you sure you've taken time off from "work"?Laugh

Philip- My prayers go out for your son and for your strength.Angel

I must get a move on. Before it gets too late.

Have A Great Day!

Hello everybody..

PC....Sorry to learn about your son's back. I certainly recall when both he and Mrs. PC were having surgery. The Chapel Car is available for prayers. I hope Mrs. PC is doing fine now.

Ryan .... Good to see you in the diner.

Rob .... I hope that inner ear infection clears soon! Prayers for you.

Ulrich ... I like seeing the AAR loco in your avatar.. By any chance do you like tradional German strudel? Good stuff, I think.

I posted pictures of 700D in WPF.  Robby has his nicely weather AA box car there.

Cheers.

Mrs. PC has her treadmill and exercise bike, plus a three wheeler pedel bike, A sidewalk around the lake out in back of the house, and a scooter to get her back up and in shape.  She's actually getting around quite well these days.  She's probably 85% as strong as she was before musclewise, but she's had two episodes that would have put her knees out and laid her up, and she walked away from both.  She rode with me the other night for the first time.  We did about 165 miles, and stopped a couple of times.  Each time she was able to mount and dismount the bike as well as I can.

Good afternoon everybody, looks like things have been busy around here, as usual. I think I'm caught up again.

Been busy doing w**k for THAT editor the past few days, in-between getting caught up in and dragged into debates of a political nature on one of the "social networking" sites. Tonight, I get to photograph events which are part of "Solon Beef Days." I'm to cover "adult kickball," kid's pedal tractor pull, and the hay bale toss. Life in a small town.

Speaking of, I just heard from a neighbor, our nazicop has been FIRED!!! But, it was because the Mayor thought Adolf was spending all his time "just sitting around his office, and not out patrolling!" Even if Hizhonor got the reason 180 degrees from reality, the end result is the same...Officer Hitler is history.

I think its time for a little nap before late-afternoon face time with THAT editor, and the aforementioned Beef Days shenanigans.

Have a good afternoon,

Hallelujah! There is a God! Those guys generally don't last long but that's one of the few cases where the reason for termination WASN'T for violating peoples rights. The most well known period that was allowed ended in May 1945.

PC ... Thanks for the update on Mrs. PC.... That is quite a long ordeal for her. Good to know she has your strong support. We should include prayers for her continued progress.

Ulrich! ....Wow! That strudel sounds terrific. Watch out!... I'm telling Shelley our next big trip had better be to Deutschland! Yummers! Auf Weidersehen to Kentucky! Meanwhile feel free to share some virtual strudel in the diner with a photo! I can hardly wait!

Afternoon everyone!

Didn't get to post this morning as I needed to do some other w**k like download and put a bunch of photos I took last night into my Photobucket account, do some work on the layout while I was washing clothes (good excuse, huh!)

Somebody decided to paint the trucks on old LV#211 which we fired up and ran last night so I got a shot of the paint job:

Chris, Hizhonor most likely knows why the nazicop needed to go but probably found it difficult to fire him for "doing his job!" WinkWink  But sitting around the office wasting taxpayers money.........  Sounds better I think. WhistlingBig Smile

Flo I'll have one of those Apple Strudle thingies that Ulrich brought in this morning.  I heard they are delicious!!!

I'm going to go sit at the front booth this afternoon and relax for a while.  I'll be going to the Museum the next two days and w**king so I need to rest up.......

Has anyone heard from TomW lately?  Seems like quite a while since I have seen a post by him.  Hope he is alright!

Philip my prayers for your son.  Hopefully surgery won't be needed to correct the situation. Glad to hear yur wife is gaining strength and doing well.

Philip's wife doing better, a Nazi Cop fired, there is good news in the world today.

I'll have a large coffee in a AT&SF mug, please & thanks.

The e-seller is going to send me the right cars and I'll send him back the wrong ones. He will also pay for my return shipping, so all should be well with this in the end. Now that I laid out the IRS building parts, the base is in 5 broken parts, a railing is broken with a part missing, and many of the windows inserts are warped (and no, they are not made that way). We'll see what he wants to do about this next issue. I could glue the base back together, but it's an entirely useless model without all those windows. And there was no smoke fluid included as the auction stated. Seems a full refund should be offered in this case. Same seller, so we'll see.

Not much to report on. Still in "altered states" today.

Boy, I've been busy today. Fed my sister's menagerie this morning then rousted my mother out of bed and made her breakfast. There were several other things she had to have done then I went to pick up their dogs from the groomer then went to the rehab center to pick up a couple of bottles of medicine that had been left there then went and got her lunch from Burger King. Took the lunch, medicine and dogs home then had to set things up with AT&T so they can come and fix a flaky phone line in the old side of the house. After that my father came home and I was free! I have nothing else to do until tonight when I have to go feed my sister's menagerie again. Hopefully she'll be home sometime tomorrow, Sunday at the latest.

Flo, A REALLY big RBF please, Thanks!

Wow! have I missed that much?  21 pages in the new diner already?  It's been a bit rough here.  BIG problems with the estate all of a sudden.  Plus.... the tourists are here in force.  Head on collisions on roads that go nowhere... Illegal turns down one way streets.  Roll overs with entrapments... all in 3 days!

From a quick scan I see that there is some good news for some people, that's good to hear.

The other reason for my absence....  My sneaking a peek here at work was passed to the management by one of the road workers.  Wrong? Well, yes.  I admittted my guilt and removed the site from my computer.   But the accusations of 'computer abuse' continued.  I left one of my vendors sites up on the monitor on purpose and another complaint was filed.  I asked why a road worker was in my office at my computer in the first place, silence...

Any-hoo, stay well of you.  I'll try to have some interesting MRR news soon....

MMMmmmm, that RBF sure was good!!!!!!

Good evening from steamy New England, the pool water is almost 80F!!!! This is bathwater !!

More storms headed our way from south and west, can't excape these tonight. At least all the grass is cut and garden is in decent shape after a record setting June for rains and low temps ( Global Warming??..BS !! )

Got to LHS on Wednesday, picked up a few cars and several kits also. The Truss Bridge from MicroEngineering is at a standstill until the missing Sprue #12 arrives in the mail. Also on Wednesday night after leaving the LHS, we went to the Salem Cross Inn ( circa 1710) at the invitation of the LHS owner, for a meal and presentation by Brian Solomon. He has authored over 34 train books all of which are excellent. I took my books with me and he autographed them all. Brian had 300 slides that he presented from his most recent travels gathering into for his next book.

PC: Sorry to hear that your son is battling yet another illness, but he is a strong lad and he will be just fine, prayers for him always.

JEFF: This is cutting into your MRR time LOL ^_^, I think you need a trip to your LHS to recoup!!!

ED: OJ is running low, please expedite car # 186472, 16,000 gal tanker to CSX mainline north via Mechanicsville, NY yard.

FERGIE: China has recalled all those plastic chairs that have a "problem", however the Canadians will not return them !!!!

Still looking for a 4-6-6T locomotive, anyone know of any available? Brass or otherwise.

I hear ya. Problem with that is I need some free time (at least 2 hours) in which to do it. My father helps a little but he has to work to keep the insurance going and my sister has to work to support herself. I'm the only one not committed to an employer.

Good (Friday!) Evening, Zoe - how about a BLT and a RBF please, 'n' thank you!

Our weather today was great - only reached the lower-to-mid 80's F, and the humidity's down. I turned off the A/C when I got home and opened the windows; just let the fans move some of the air through. Ahhh...Big Smile We're at 74 F (23 C) at 8 p.m. (and the sun's just going down about now), so I think the temp'll drop into the 50's (F) overnight. Sweet!

Rob, sometimes I use the Testor's (in the bottle), sometimes Ambroid ProWeld (also in a bottle, but slightly thicker, it seems), and I have a tube of another cement for styrene/plastic (Testor's, maybe). In a way, for me they're a bit like the varieties of thicknesses in CA or the different times on epoxies. I find myself, that I tend to use the Ambroid (though the brush in the cap on mine has a 'Y' at the end that annoys the heck out of me at times when I'm trying to control it more). Guess I should designate a small brush for my more precise gluing jobs, eh?  On your 'bay seller, I would put him on my 'Never Again' list, if it were me (after I had him make things right and/or refund the purchase and shipping charges...).Angry

Ulrich, if the cicadas are eating up either your flowers or your veggies, I say it's open season on them. Yeah!! Only other option is to wait until the things burrow down and 'hibernate' until however many years (7?) later and the return... Hey, thanks for the tip on gluing resin - I have a few resin kits I will need to assemble sometime, and had been thinking of using epoxy ('cause it's what I have, although I really need something quicker than the 30 minute kind I have...).

Oh, Chloe - after hearing Ulrich describe his wife's strudel, could I have a slice of that for dessert? Yes, I'll walk some extra tomorrow to burn the calories off...(Gee, these w'men... ) Oh, nothing, not a thing, Chloe, just commenting about how amazing women can be! (Whew - that was a close one!)Whistling

PC, I noticed on the news tonight that there's a biker rally/conference/whatever near here - I think it's in either Southern Illinois or western Kentucky. Of course, it might be a bit of a ride, depending on your weather between there and the location here. Cool Sorry to hear about your son's back problems - will add my prayers to the rest for him. AngelAngel

Ray - who makes that 80 tonner? I know the 44 tonner is GE (as is the 70 tonner, right?), but don't know if I've ever seen an 80 ton diesel. I'll look forward to seeing the photos. May be later in the day tomorrow, as I've found out that my laundry doesn't have their WiFi w**king anymore. Guess they cut back the costs that way...(pooh...Thumbs Down) So I'll check in later from a restaurant WiFi instead.

Hey, Ryan - careful with that 'Mark XV' stuff - if they did that, there's a lot of us (including me) who couldn't afford this place!Shock The prices would likely be much higher if it were the Mark XV, also. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Chris, I think Ray may have hit on the real story, all right - plus, firing Nazicop for the 'not w**king on the job' reason reduces the odds of his getting hired on at some neighboring town (for a while, anyway).

Eric - sounds like a few prayers lately for strength for you might be in order, eh? Hope you're through the worst of it on the estate stuff - that can be a regular PITA sometimes. Good point on the road w**ker stealing a peek at your computer screen at the office - isn't he supposed to be (as the job title goes) w**king on or at the ROAD??? (sorry, just got a little peeved on your behalf...)Oops

On the MRR'ing front, I've been looking at some Athearn RTR trucks they have. They're way too expensive (about $13 each list price Shock), but they have some neat ones for my layout's period (1955 Ford F100's). Some with the 'flames' on the side like some of the 'muscle cars' of that time and later had, and some just with a different paint scheme than much of the others.

Speaking of cars and trucks, anyone know of how to mask off the windows on vehicles so I could either weather or repaint some of them? I'm thinking I would need something more precise than photo masking tape, something like a frisket, etc. Anyone have some ideas for me? Thanks in advance.

Hey, Barry - got enough rain there lately? Let me join you there. It sure seems like the Ohio River/eastern Great Lakes/upper east coast area has been getting its fair share (or more) of rain lately. I'm just glad our latest batch of rain fronts has stopped for now. Barry, you have to try a slice of this strudel that Ulrich brought in - his wife's an amazing cook! Chloe, another slice for Barry, please!

Barry and I will be discussing how we can either stow away on a ship headed for Germany - or else, get Ulrich and wife moved here to this side of the 'pond' (no, Barry, I'm not talking about your backyard...)...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Flo I'll have a cup of decafe to make me sleepy so i can get a good nights and be well rested for a day of w**k.... er, I mean volunteering at the museum tomorrow (and Sunday....).

The 80 Tonner is also a GE.  She is an ex-US Army switcher.  Right now she only works with one of her prime movers and half her traction motors.  She can still pull a caboose up the grade so she is used a lot in service.  The plan is to someday get her back working on all 4 traction motors and both prime movers.  You can read about her here: http://rgvrrm.org/about/railroad/rgv1654/index.htm

Hope all of you have a great evening!

Slice of Key Lime Pie, "not thrown", please and thanks.Dinner

Good news is that e-seller is sending the correct autos, the replacement parts for those broken/melted on the IRS model, and finally said to just keep the first cars sent in error. That is good after-the-sale customer service. Whew!

Wife & I spent some time making decisions on her layout. To save $$$, she now wants me to paint that IRS building and turn it into her Hospital, instead of the WS Municipal building. Whatever she wants is what I shall do. She also didn't want to disturb her Circus Parade Route with a building on fire. Sooo, IF the smoker works, I'll "borrow it" for my future vulcano.Whistling

Have a good night all.

Jeffrey - I think a lot of us know and appreciate what your going through. There were a couple of years when my wife and I were responsible for both of my my parents as well as her mother and her brother, who were both blind. That meant taking care of my house, my parents place and my brother-in-laws house. Nobody lived all that close either. Nobody drove so we had to provide transportation too. With the passage of time, we then had to deal with hospitals, nursing homes, care givers, etc. We had little time for ourselves. But the worst part of it was feeling so unprepared. We did get through it however, and I'm sure you will too. Just keep smiling and putting one foot in front of the other.

I'm hoping to get in some railfanning on Sunday. We will probably head for the Strip District in Pittsburgh. Sunday is a good day to catch Amtrak and the Allegheny Valley using Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line. Then maybe up to Rook Yard to see if the Wheeling & Lake Erie is doing anything. On the way home, I'll go through McKees Rocks to see what's sitting in Pittsburgh & Ohio Central's yard. Traffic seems to be really slow on the CSX line, so I don't think I'll waste time hoping to catch something there.

Have a nice weekend everybody.

Good late evening y'all.  Still no word on the job market.  I had an interview with Lowe's and did a drug test with them, so I hope that it'll come through.  Yes, the CSX trackworker job is a physical job, but I don't mind working, never have.  My daughter, Heather, and I went railfanning yesterday.  Montgomery, AL, (my hometown, also where Amy's OB is) has a pretty nice little park that overlooks three different subs as they come into Montgomery's S&N (south and north) yard, along with Chester yard, so we went there and caught a train within about 15 minutes of being there.

Unfortunately, our time got cut short there because Amy finished up her doc's appointment and we had to head back there to get her.  Right now I've got the house to myself as Amy is up in Birmingham with her cousin (cousin's boyfriend had a 4-wheeler accident and shattered his knee and dislocated his leg, pretty badly banged up, worried about him loosing his foot due to poor circulation).  Since I'll be working on the house tomorrow and won't be able to really watch Heather, she's spending the night at a friend's house.  So I'm enjoying the peace and quiet, and staying up late too!

I'll just have a RBF and a bowl of vanilla ice cream with a little hot fudge over the top of it.  Went to our local Chinese buffet tonight for dinner and got my "fix", so I'm good except for my incessant sweet tooth.  I'll probably be in here for a little while, catching up mostly, but I know that I'll be heading off to bed soon so I can get up early and make my way up to the house and our land to work (gotta get the bathroom sink drain finished up and get the new pad for the new central a/c unit poured....geee, I love remodelling!).

 Good Morning, Y´all,

Zoe, I´ll tale a coffee in my ARR mug and the "Hungry Man´s Breakfast" advertised for today. What da´ya say? More German Apple Strudel? Well, I´ ll tell my wife to make some more... Smile

Weather is back to normal, i.e. cloudy, with the odd spell of rain, temperature around 20 C. I had planned to steam up my little "steamy" in the garden, but it is too wet for that. Time to spend at the drawing board, still in search of my "dream" layout.

First thoughts:

It is a mix of ideas and inspirations I have been collecting over the last days - starting with Bob Smaus´ Port of Los Angeles and some "gawd, where did I see that" - ideas.

Have a good day!

PC, I noticed on the news tonight that there's a biker rally/conference/whatever near here - I think it's in either Southern Illinois or western Kentucky. Of course, it might be a bit of a ride, depending on your weather between there and the location here.

Gonna have to pass.  I teach twice this weekend, so I'm kinda spoken for already.

Sir Madog
I´ll put up a candle for your son, Philip - I know what it means for parents to have a seriously ill kid at home!

OLD ALPHABET

A is for apple, and B is for boat. That use to be right, but now it won't float!!!

Age before beauty is what we once said, but let's be more realistic instead.

NOW NEW THE ALPHABET:

A's for arthritis,

B's forbad back,

C's for the chest pains, Perhaps car-d-iac??

D's is for dental decay and decline,

E's is for eyesight, can't read the top line,

F, is for fissures and fluid retention,

G, is for gas I'd rather not mention,

H, is high blood pressure-I'd rather it low,

I, for incision with scares to show,

J, is for joints, out of sockets, won't mend,

K is for knees that crack when they bend,

L, for libido, what happened to sex?

M, is for memory, I forgot what comes next,

N, is neuralgia, in nerves way gown low,

O, is for osteo, bones that won't grow!

P, for prescriptions, I have quite a few. Just give me a pill and I'm good as new!

Q, is for queasy, is it fatal or flue?

R, is for reflux, one meal turns to two,

T, is for Tinnitus; bells in my ears

U,, is for urinary; troubles with flow.

V,, is for vertigo, that dizzy, you know,

W's for worry, now what going round?

X, is for xray, and what might be found.

Y, is for another year I'm left here behind, is zest I still have at least in my mind.

I've survived all the symptoms, my body's deployed, and I'm keeping 26 doctors fully employed.

HAVE A GREAT DAY

Mornin, any of that Strudel left? Great, I'll have a piece and some coffee please. I don't know what I'll do today. Yardwork and what else ? Who knows. Eat I suppose.

I stopped by WPF on the way here this morn, Outstanding guys, just outstanding!

Rob- It doesn't sound as if your E-seller was that good. Is he sorta new at this? At least he's making it good, I hope he follows through

Luckily I've only had one issue with an E-seller on the bay and it really wasn't anything I couldn't fix easily. It was just a misunderstanding of what the term "Vintage" meant. Apparently they use it to represent an exception from the term "Excellent condition". After conversing with this business, they left me with the impression it was my misunderstanding and that by them using the term "Vintage" I should have expected some damage or repairs, even if they were shoddy repairs and sorry they didn‘t show up in the pictures, but they try to get the best photos of their items. Sometimes it may not show all the defects but you can always ask if the picture represents the item well before bidding. Soooo, I've learned that , at least from some people, a "Vintage whatever in Excellent condition" really means " Older item that we really don't know if it is old, but it looks like it could be, is in excellent condition, we think, for having fallen off the top shelf, kinda stuck back together with some Elmer's glue with no attention to orientation or correct reassembly, and you should expect to have to reassemble or repair item." I feel relieved that I now know this.

(streeeeeetch) Well I guess I better get a move on.

Have a Great Day!

Afternoon, Flo - I'll have a bacon cheeseburger with the w**ks and a RBF, please. Thanks!

I'd written a post and had it almost done, just had to upload 2 photos to my Photobucket account, and when I came back to the counter, someone had cleared the thing off (including the napkins with my notes on them) - aaauuuuggghhh!!! Banged HeadSigh

Just feeling a bit disgusted at the moment, so I guess I'll try later to respond to various posts. Had saved Ulrich's design (for future reference), thanked Ray for the explanation on the GE 80 tonner, told Inch I couldn't decide whether to laugh or sigh about his 'New Alphabet' poem, and I probably won't recall all of what I had written to say, anyway.

I did get some (sorta) 'railfanning' this morning - went by our closest RR crossing and tracks here:

It's by our riverwall, and I think UP has the track, but BNSF gets to use it to get to their line south of town. Here's the back (wet) side of the riverwall:

When I came back from the river side of the wall, I almost got a photo of some motive power... but by the time I'd turned on the camera and tried to focus on it, the BNSF 'utility truck' was heading around a bend in the tracks and was a mere dot on the screen. I won't post that shot...

Got some more photos of some really neat murals that are around Cape, and I'll post a link to them in here later today for those who might be interested.

I received my decals order from Champ(ion) Decals today - ones for my ATSF gondola (which I need to paint, hopefully today), my ore cars (dimensional data), some for my D&RGW cabeese, and some for my (steam and diesel) locos. Guess I ordered more than I'd realized, but hey, I'm doing my part to stimulate the economy of Minot, North Dakota, right? Wink

I'm just gonna chill out at the RC for now, before somebody cleans the counter off again and I lose this post...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau
